Ohio State men's basketball team defeats Penn State 106-74
"Start about discussing Ohio state because the Buckeyes beat the absolute crap out of another quality opponent this weekend. Final Score Ohio state one. Oh six pin state seventy four. So that's a thirty. Two point win over a Penn State team that entered the game ranked twenty third at Kim. Palm the lines are now twenty six which means as of this moment Ohio state has three wins by at least twenty points over top fifty Kim pom teams and according to Hoop Visions Jordan sperber the rest of the country like the other three hundred and fifty two division one teams combined only have three wins by at least twenty points over top fifty Kim pom teams which means Ohio state has already done something three times that the entire rest of the country has only also done three times just incredible so Ohio state is now number five offensive offensive efficiency number two defensive efficiency number one it can palm number two it's Sagara number two in the CBS sports top twenty five and one norlander. Yeah I think you and I both knew it would be good because they returned some key pieces in Chris. Holtman is excellent. Did you think they'd be this good. They are killing people and now again again number. One Akin no not even close to not even close. Maybe that's a little too thick but Yeah Jordan Stat. I re tweeted. We did that on Saturday. That's that's a really really good one And in light of what the Buckeyes were able to do. Just wipe the floor with Penn State thoroughly and I you know that was a secondary TV game. But I did have it on. And then it was extremely impressive and Caleb Western has been the star of the team to this point in the season but you know as we mentioned on the On the Friday podcast they do have more than just him and digit carton is really coming. He's coming into his own I I like so much of what he's been able to do. So yeah I mean this is the best when I said that it was the best team in the big ten. And you said are you gonNA pretend like mark turgeon doesn't exist. You remember when that happened. I vaguely remember that. Yes and then remember how Maryland should've lost at home to Illinois and really had. We're not going to dedicate anytime on this podcast. That game because it was hideous Maryland had no business beating Illinois. Did you happen to catch any of that game. By the way they were down. Big Big big and I was stressed out because have a real impact on the twenty one but then a Anthony Cowan got going down. The stretch in Maryland escapes win is a win is a win win is a win and I am. I am driving the Cowan bus as you. Well know and on that note I was happy to see it but but Maryland Illinois will get their due in time to come but yeah that just reinforced my belief that right now Ohio state is clearly The best as team in the big ten and according to some metrics operating as the best team in college basketball right

"But this is a Yale team that has shocked. The lacrosse world gave an interview earlier this week to the Baltimore Sun. Question was can the Penn State team be beaten up like it's doable. But you've got to play a complete game almost perfect and Yale. They haven't been perfect, but they've been pretty darn complete cave dodging, right? Allie on ten we got knocked down hard by to yell offenders in that low lefty laser is off target wide to the right of star three goals for the great Moco kief today. But it looks like his season may come to an end down by seven three forty five and counting. They met back. Fifteen watch closely. By gale, and defenseman. Chris all Ivy league performer is pretty good job. I mean it's got some big numbers today at two and four in front. Another scored for Penn State. Try to keep this game going Dylan. Folds. Amen. Gets a defense. For Gail hung up, and it's just a jailbreak. Cut Dylan foles, a nice job streaking to the near post little twist or shot sticking his right hand instead of putting it in his left. He just basically windshield wipes in front of his face and slides, it around yield at minder, Jack star. Yet, another assistant Bremen. Eighteen year old still in the game taking faceoffs. And now you have to start asking the question with a six goal lead three and a half minutes left to go in this game. TD Irwin's, moxie and metal will be tested on Monday after taking a ton of faceoffs here on Saturday. Less than forty eight hours rests. He's going to be back here at the link trying to lead Yale to a second consecutive national championship. Sarah, trying to grab a ground ball, wings involve as well. Dan, jealous gets physical Earl in front of Penn State bench, trying.

"I listen. I went back and watched a lease some of that Rutgers game. And I am sorry. I did. Yeah. No. That's a that's a time sink. Right there. It was it really was Maryland has some fight to it. And, you know, losing a couple straight real close is not the most encouraging thing. But a Penn State team who has looked pretty awkward on offense. The back half of this season. You know, some bright spots for sure defensively some playmakers have emerged there's going to be this is the term right here, frozen rain. Okay. Freezing rain, freezing rain, frozen rain, whatever on on Saturday morning. The games three thirty three thirty kickoff here. So maybe conditions not ideal for a fast track. I have Maryland here. I think they're going to be able to get loose a little bit on the ground against this. Penn State team that has in the open fields don't need to remind you. I don't need to remind anybody. They've struggled tackling the open field and this season. And. I was about to sitcom snot rocket. I really. So sorry for thinking that I think Anthony McFarland. Anthony, dude Farland will get loose a couple of times. I have Penn State's sneaking by I'm gonna take the points. I have at thirty one twenty eight Penn State at home on senior day tie. You know, we are even though we've disagreed by my count five times so far in our first seven games here. We're still fairly like minded in terms of scoring. I am also taking the points for the exact same reason. I think Maryland can run on Penn State. By thirty four twenty seven Penn State wins at home. It feels good to meet in the.

"Welcome to the back to the end zone. Jamie. Moore's Matt Leach on the other side of the glass. And when you hear that song, you know, what it's all about. It's the bottom line with Thomas wines. What's up Thomas J MO what's going on get to be back? Good to have you back, man. I'm telling you what it is right now. Now say it I saw it off. Out there blocking against one of the best defensive line in the country. Okay. I will concur. To an extent. Okay. So again, it goes back to you watching what happens upfront in more than just a pedestrian sort of. Level if you will. So our offensive line. Did this really good things? I thought other than the one that we gave up on our past pro look, very solid. I thought our run blocking looked above average especially from what we've been doing. But again, my issue is always going to be. I think there's a false level of security that we get when we start to look at some of these numbers that to me are are somewhat inflated. And what I mean, by inflated is when you go back and looked at at Higgins total rush arch for the game. He got a lot of those again on chunk Kerry's. Okay. So I'm going back to our level of consistency. What are we doing? I down. Are we getting anywhere between four to six yards on first down when we run the ball consistently? I'm not seeing that how many short yardage third into fourteen twos. That we have that. That we actually had to go go to the fourth down actually get that. I now. Those are the little things that concern me. It wasn't a total wash. If you will reference to overall performance of the offensive line. There's just again certain standards that were getting closer to meeting. I don't think we're meeting them consistently. So we have times where when I'm sitting back, and I'm watching I'm like are we coming off the ball we run blocking? And yet again, I gotta go back to are. We changing the line of scrimmage especially with the short short yardage runs. Some of those things that we got done, you know, been Mason as a beast. I need that kid on my team every week. That's my guy right there. I love how he goes out. And does his thing each week. He has he has this. And I say this and the kindness of ways, ladies and gentlemen, kids a psychopath, and I love it. Because of the fact that the focus that he brings to his job the bad intentions that he brings when he goes up in that whole those are things that you want to see in a fullback. He he's an old school guy. He's got old also, and I see that with them, and the the level of toughness that he brings I'm hoping that that is is washing off in the locker room to the rest of his teammates. But again when when you go back, and I'm and I'm looking at I'm studying certain things, and I'm looking at the stats are footwork. What are we doing on our short yardage plays? Why are we not changing the line of scrimmage? The one of the things is we're not coming off the ball flat out. We're position blocking. I saw one play. I'm sly. I don't know. I see one part as he like the right side of the offensive line comes off the left side. Like are we running a draw? So. Those are some of the things I'm left in the dark with strictly because of I'm not privy to the play calling nor you know, again. I haven't been a practice. So I'm I'm getting everything as the rest of the world is getting I'm just watching the game. You know, I go back in, you know, give my YouTube on whatever. And try to dissect film, the best I can with what I have. But you know in the first quarter. I just wanna say the offensive line. Did do a good job blocking? I want to say, you know, Shay has him. Houdini esque, boss. I liked that a lot right there. But you know, just what she's been able to do on the boots showing his athleticism his ability to to run the ball. And also he has a turn the ball over. I think he's doing a better job as far as taking care to make some better decisions. But you're able to do that when you got time to write. So to that extent. Yes, we are. I feel like we're doing a lot better on our pass. Pro we're not getting beat on those twists like beginning. So, you know, those are the points of improvements in our second series. We had a third and six we had. I think we ran a slant. Good pass pro and the screen. I thought that screen that we were gonna work, bro. It was going to work. I was sick. I will say that was a house. Call right there. That was lazy Jemima if you guys really understand how fun it is for athletically chunky kid to actually get out and show was athletic system to get out there and space to run and put hands. On smaller people and drive them into the turf. And or oblivion these are the things as offense at Lyon. We look forward to weekend week out when coaches give us the ability to get out from the trenches, and hey were athletes to I'm a three hundred pound man, and I'm out here. Running with DB's. Yeah. You blocking the day, and you're blocking DB's imagine being a hundred and eighty five to ten two hundred ten pound player, and you got a three hundred plus pound bohemian coming at you full speed with nothing but bad intentions. This is a great day to be an athlete. I love it. So hats off to the boys wish it would've went. But you know, I love the play call. I think that we're getting a little bit. I think we're starting to show our identity more. I feel like our offense is starting to this is who we are. You know that wasn't overly apparent during the beginning of the season. But right now. With us being able to establish a semblance of a run game which plays into into our favor with our to have the the run pass option. The play action pass we start getting out on those naked boot, those things are definitely gonna pay dividends for us as the season progresses you and I were talking earlier about the teams which we've been playing in. You said that Penn State, arguably has probably one of the top d lines in the conference, and to an extent, I do agree with you. But my biggest I wanted to my hat off to the coaching staff to the boys. My one of my biggest fears was complacency creeping in after the Michigan state game. I felt like that was such a an emotional drain that the boys would have shot their wide. And you know, we we've done it. This was our season and having that week off which was good for health reasons to get the voice healed up. But I wanted to ride their wave momentum into this game. But to their credit the coaching staff and the boys held their composure and continue to work hard and to focus on the fundamentals to focus on the details. A little things that causes you to win games. So I definitely want to salute everybody down a sham Becker hall forgetting, the w an impressive w at that. I definitely was not seen that score. Come out the way that it did. But obviously, you know, it was it was definitely a one. Of our hallmark wins over what I would consider to be a decent. Penn State team. I don't know who's doing the rankings. But I see a Penn State that should have been ranked at hot, I digress. Moving on. Some other great plays that we had just you know, just on the short yardage. There's not a lot of hallmark moments that I saw a front we're getting good push at the time that we need to get good push. I'm seeing us picking up the a gap Blitzer. I want to say a win picked up a really good one on a on a gap blitz that brought shea sometime in you know, we were able to move the ball on. So nothing specifically to say. What I would call wild plays or wild blocks. I would just say that we had a solid game up front. But you now now this is where we're going to jump off into. A part of offensive line play. That does not get a lot of attention Jameh. What's happening on our field goal and PAT protection? I don't know man, stay out. It's kinda like, you know, nobody really talks about a catcher until you don't have a catcher, right? Nordine? I don't wanna say struggling, but he's he's having his issues again with consistency. I don't question his leg. But you know, the block that we had so I had to go back, and you know, on YouTube at this point, and I'm running back trying to see where the black came from. So the block comes from the left side. Between the wing and the tight end sell some things on which I'm seeing just from from techniques, technique wise that were not doing or at least from which I was taught back in the day is that our big guys when we come down to protect that those interior gaps. Those ABC gaps are guys are are crashing down. But they're low their heads down. And so because now that your heads down the the defensive lines able to actually get up get tall possibly get a block, especially if you have a locate coming directly over over the Senate as we take those steps we gotta be big up front. You know, we we have to be as broad as possible and to to keep the defensive lines hands down the cardinal rule in offense of line plays. Never get beaten side the tight end and wing position on field. Go PAT block is probably one of the most arduous positions to play to play in. Because of you have to. I've got a crash down inside. But still extend enough of of my lateral part of my body in order to to stop that that wing coming off the. And. I think it was like sixty six and eighty three when we got when we got the block sixty six is kind of coming down. But he's not really given. You know, his tied in any help outside is kind of leaving him out there in space, and we had guys coming through what I would call the gap. And we got guys coming around the very edge of the tight end. So we ended up getting a block. So this things that we need to short there. You know, it's one of those things that we always take is automatic. That's not always automatic. You know, when you go back, and you look at the NFL right now how they moved it back. And I think that was pretty much a good thing because it makes the game more more competitive. Those gimme points that everyone just thought that. Yeah. We're gonna go ahead and get these are, no more. So every facet of the game starts to take on a higher level of of importance that we have to execute. No matter what we're doing. If for out their on field. We gotta make sure that we're doing. Her job. So definitely need to shore that up because the other crucial caveat of that is gonna come in time. You know, we talked about it last year when we play Penn State, how many fills that we miss, you know, so as we start we're getting down here nut cut in time. And. I don't ever want talk bad about another team. Right. But you know, Rutgers. Hey, they put their pants on the same way. We do. So you know, we we may have a fight when we get out to jersey. Yeah. Have you take them lightly? You don't come out. And right. Do the right things. I agree with you. So now like I said when we come back for his Indiana game at everyone keeps laughing at me. 'cause I keep talking about the hoosiers. See you wanna ki ki ki ki. You just repeat what I said at the beginning of the year as I mean asked back when I sent eleven to one we had a we had a caller today who was given Jayme. Oh crap. Because Jamie said are only lost this year would be to Indiana. Indians laughing with you not. Okay, right. See I wasn't privy to that conversation. All right, Jamie. We're gonna laugh together. Yuck. Yuck. Yuck. But the hoosiers always play as tough, they do for some reason for some odd reasons, they always play us tough. And you know, what bigger feathered putting their cat to come in here, especially as we're on his on his tour, and I'm going to address the whole revenge tour thing momentarily. As we're as we're on this run right now to really do some big things. What bigger feather? It'd be an aircraft to come in here that unassuming team to come not the wolverines are off that pedestal. So you know, we definitely cannot overlook them to be looking forward to Ohio State. So the revenge tour everyone keeps talking about that. Jamie. I hate it. Why they got they got a motto the revenge tour. These are the teams that that that punish them last year. They remember this. Okay. It was documented in. What was that? What was the Amazon thing? Call man, it was called love talk to us. Matt. What was that? What was the Amazon com? Not all or nothing nothing when it was all nothing, and you saw them crying after the Michigan state game. You saw their heads down following the Penn State game. You saw how they looked against Wisconsin. Losing Brandon Peters. You saw how they allocate. How close it was at. I mean when they were here going against Ohio State and the backup quarterback came here and finish them off. So to them, they call it. The revenge tour they're taking it to them..

"Love hearing from you. Tell you family friends that is always a a happy occasion. When you do. The world of college football. It seems as if we have a very easy path. To a national champion as far as who are the teams that are going to be there. It's clearly defined. And it's the first Sunday in November. I don't know that this is exactly what the college football executives thought when they put together this process. But it seems like the path is fairly clear. So we go to the one of the bright minds that can talk with us about this subject national coach football writer from the Orlando Sentinel, Matt Michelle and met it to me. It looks like such a clear path that we're sitting here today with Notre Dame knowing in their path Clemson knowing their path Alabama, no in their path, and it appears Michigan knowing their path of what they have to do to be in that final four who has the most treacherous path in your opinion. Well, you know, I think when you look at the schedule I think Notre Dame. Surprisingly, I know they don't have, you know, the Marci type of games coming up that people might think with trip them up. But you know, they do have to say that you have to excuse me. They do have to say USC down the road on the west coast. That's always a tough battle for them as well. They're going to have an up and coming Syracuse team that's playing really well ah last couple of weeks. So to me those are games that could easily maybe find a way to trip them up in because there is no conference championship game for Notre Dame. No, they don't have an extra advantage of having a game to come back a bounce back. If they were to lose a game. So to me, that's that's the most treacherous. I mean, Michigan. We'll have live state definitely on the road. But again, this is an you know, who's the one that's on the smaller. More shake your everybody in their chest this morning here, you know, about Michigan just getting inundated with it. Michigan just beat the three loss. Penn State team. They made him a three loss. Penn State team. This was a Penn State team that already lost two at home. I mean, they're making it out like they they went out there and beat one of the best teams in college football. And Penn State, clearly, isn't what is your thought on Michigan. Thing is practically the most about Michigan a season as their defense. I mean, Don Brown the defensive coordinator has done again. Another masterful job with that group. That's just such a suffocating defense and they've been able to do it weekend and week out. I'm also the fact that you know, you look at the way they played this season opener. Look, very good offensively. They look like they couldn't find their identity. They found that. Now. Patterson running the office. Level. They're running the football two hundred yards rushing against Penn State. They're doing what they have to do. You. Gotta win these games. Penn State ever pointed to Jim Harbaugh, and you see you can't you can't win these games. But you've been managing do that this year, basically got a huge test. Obviously get so high state, but you know, how state does not look like the Ohio State that we thought they were gonna be maybe four or five weeks ago. So to me Michigan right now playing as well as defense as we've seen maybe out of Alabama, Clemson, so yes, it wasn't a great in the sense of Penn State's not that good. But still Michigan's playing really good football right now, are you of the belief that Oklahoma is legitimate? As far as that. They could make some noise if there if they were to make it to the college football playoff the have in Oklahoma right now is the one that wants to pointing out. It's the defense. I mean, they just gave up so many yards. I know, you know, Lincoln Riley fired defensive coordinator Mike stoops earlier in the year. They brought in roughing. Neal's promoted him to try to help out the situation last night. They gave up almost five hundred yards to Texas Tech team again in another big shootout to me. I think if they can get into the player. I mean, they've got the offense to go in there. Just look like they can't stop anybody. That's gonna be a problem as we've seen over the last four or five years teams that win the national championship. Usually do it with a solid defense. Oklahoma just doesn't have that right now. Are you believing that the Alabama crimson tide has face their toughest opponent already before the college football playoff? Or do you think Georgia could end up being that team? No, I, you know, I think LSU. Team. They were going to say I mean, I talked to a couple of weeks ago. Against florida. We saw obviously what happened to Florida this weekend. I mean shorter. There's no one years do blaster the team as a whole is nowhere as good as last year's national championship caliber team. So to me at the gala. She was shot that team having Alabama right now in the regular season. Now, you know when we get to if they get to the play offs. You know, I think Clemson has got a good chance they match up really well with Alabama is a mentioned Michigan with defense is a good opportunity. So right now, I mean, Alabama. Now, they've got pastel shoes the doors reopened for them to kind of just run the table. And of course, one other college football playoff. I gotta tell you maverick. Joining us, by the way, from the Orlando Sentinel here on the jonky cage show CBS sports radio. He covers college football for the Orlando Sentinel nationally, but you're right in the backyard of UCF they claimed last year's national championship and on the temple guy. So I'm just gonna be honest with up front, I'm a huge temple football fan. But to me if. Temple university has its best offensive performance ever in the history of the program on your home field. You aren't in any way, a part of the national championship discussion is that too. Harsh on my part. No, I think you look at the effective methods. The worst. UCF has had in three or four years. I think temple had almost three hundred yards in the in the first quarter nothing against the Russo. You know, they made Anthony Russo you know, look almost Heisman worthy based on performance. I don't think this is the same caliber defense ahead last year. I think he'll be told each other much like Obama a lot of ways they're gonna go toe to toe with the offensively. But it's going to be the defense of anything that's going to trip up this team. They're playing well enough. I think when you look at what American is right now. Again. I don't think they've got a plot. Fly excuse me a path to the playoffs. I don't think that's going to happen. But I think they could get to a new your which is a lot for them there three years ago with winless when only twelve sure, you know, it's trying to you know, really kind of establish itself as a national brand they've been able to do that over the last eighteen months. They continue to do the things they're doing now that brand is still going to be there. They're more people talking about now than there were, you know, five years ago when they were playing in the siesta bowl, and they beat Baylor. So that's a big deal for this program. And it'd be different school. That's trying to kind of make a name for itself. We know that the it's gonna take a lot for Washington state to be able to be fined one of those spots at the table. It's gonna take a disaster really to break out in front of them. But do you believe Washington state is the team that would say, you know, one of these things is not like the other. They don't belong. Yeah. I think so the Pac twelve and a whole it's just really struggled the last couple of years, and for some reason or not I think once they get into their conference play. You know, they've been you know, the stumbled teams of stumbled you saw Washington was going to be the beginning of the year and they've stumbled Stanford still struggled I think Washington state right now they're playing good football as they possibly can right now. Recruiting in the Pac twelve oh. Is it is it the fact that recruiting dropped off? I mean, people were talking about like the Notre Dame and USC coming up US's a four loss UC team oriented. Recruiting. And I I think some of it's the fact that you know, we've seen we've seen the conference as a whole kind of struggling. But you know, they had lots of turnover coaches, I think people forget, you know, that, you know, you're Kevin somewhere. You don't hurt Edwards and chip Kelly. You know, and they went through a kind of a coaching Tarasova last year. They also lost some big name stars. You know, Josh Rosen and Sam darnold. Luke falk. Our lease, you know, for for the carpet as a whole, I it took a big hit in the offseason. But again, it's kind of a mystery to me why the Pac twelve can't be better. Why aren't they don't play at a higher level the last couple of years because it it shouldn't be recruiting? Because there's a lot of talent on the west coast. There's a lot of kids. Listen, McKenzie, Milton. He's playing at UCF right now. We've mentioned, you know, for the Maxwell near Brian. He's from Hawaiian pectoral schools should have been recruiting and really heavily and then they did because of the size. So I think some of that is recruiting and they need to keep some of those kids in that area there. So I think Washington state's doing a better job with the last couple of years like Mike Leach, obviously salsas program. Well, whether or not they get a team in the playoff. I think hopes are very slim right now. Okay, met this company be the oddest question. Your estimate. On sports radio. But I'm going to say to you, you're free to write a column on it. If you'd like I'm asking you right now that if you write the story this year about Alabama being beaten. What is the final score of the game? Because I'm wondering if Alabama's beaten what's going to be the score. Like, what is somebody going to do it? They gonna keep them to twenty-five like what what's the score of the game. If you think Alabama, I and you may not think that they're gonna lose. But if if you ever wrote that story this year what was the final score of the game. I think it would be you know, somewhere in the twenty, you know, twenty twenty five type situation. I listen to our bam has struggled with its kicking game, you know, three or four years. Now, they haven't been tested. Their offense has been so good at some point. If someone were to get them into into a close game, a shootout and force them to actually football. I mean, that's where you look at their second secondary. You know, no one has been able to take advantage of it as well. But know, the secretary is not nearly as strong as it was over the last couple of years. So for me, you know, I I think there's a team out there who might be able to do that. But it's going to be a close game. And like I mentioned before Clemson Michigan a team with a solid defense to keep the game close. I don't think it's going to be a shootout. I think we have a very close game. But it could come down to like a field goal or some special teams play. And that's where Alabama times has been its weakest over last year for years. I got Email this morning. And and Twitter's that say to me, well, Michigan Michigan doesn't that's the team Alabama doesn't wanna face shape Patterson, and that offense how many points did they think they're scoring on Alabama. See I just don't think I don't to me. I think Clemson that. I would agree matches up. I mean because you look at what Clemson has is on the line. It's one of the best defense online in the country. You know, they put a lot of pressure there in the backfield a lot if you're going to get we saw a little bit. What else you yesterday if you can get two to eight hundred law and make them make a couple of mistakes. He'll turn the ball over. He did yesterday against LSU. Clemson's defense is solid. I think Trevor Lawrence is obviously an elite quarterback he's playing in a much better level. They've got a solid running attack. And I think that could actually help them, you know, in in the long run if you're going to beat a team like Alabama. So I know fans are writing about having you know, maybe how Obama Clemson national championship game. But to me that's the matchup that probably best fits team is going to beat Alabama this year. Tony Barnhart told me a few weeks ago. He goes he keeps those same complaints. So he just says once your team, go beat them. That's the way we can not have to be facing that game. Again, one of your teams needs to go beat them. And if they don't they should just. The game. So Matt enjoy your work and thank you for making time for me this morning. Hey, no problem. Thank you. Kornacki later. Thanks, Matt that Michelle joining us from the Orlando Sentinel here on the jonky Cato on CBS sports radio CBS is Super.

They're going to have an up and coming Syracuse team that's playing really well the last couple of weeks. So to me those are games that could easily maybe find a way to trip them up in because there is no conference championship game for Notre Dame. No, they don't have an extra advantage of having a game baby to come back up bounce back. And if they were to lose a game. So to me, that's that's the most trucks. Chris. I mean, Michigan. We'll have live state definitely on the road. But again, this is an you know to me. He's the one more shake your ground. Everybody Panin their chest this morning here. You know about Michigan. I just getting inundated with Michigan just be the three loss. Penn State team. They made him a three loss. Penn State team. This was a Penn State team that hardy lost two at home. I mean, they're making it out like they they went out there and beat one of the best teams in college football. And Penn State, clearly, isn't what is your thought on Michigan. Well, I think the thing is pressing me the most about Michigan season as their defense. I mean, Don Brown that defensive coordinator has done again. Another masterful job with that group such suffocating defense and they've been able to do it weekend and week out. I'm also the fact that you know, you look at the way they played in the season opener. Look, very good offensively. They look like they couldn't find their identity. They found that. Now. Patterson running the Austin at a much more higher level. They're running the football two hundred yards rushing against Penn State. They're doing what they have to do. You've gotta win these games would've lost ten states and ever order pointed to Jim Harbaugh and said see you can't you can't win these games, you know, but you've been managing do that this year. They still got a huge test. Obviously get so high. State. But you know, how state does not look like the Ohio State that we thought they were going to be maybe four or five weeks ago. So to me Michigan right now playing as well as defense is we've seen the Alabama. And Clemson, so yes, it wasn't a great in the sense that Penn State's not that good still Michigan's playing really good football right now, are you of the belief that? Oklahoma is legitimate. As far as they could make some noise. If there if they were to make it to the college football playoff, you know, the problem I have in Oklahoma right now, the one that everyone's pointing out I mean, they just gave up so many yards. I know the Lincoln Riley fired defensive coordinator Mike stoops earlier in the year. They brought in Ruffin McNeill promoted him to try to help out that diesel situation. You know last night they gave up almost five hundred yards to Texas Tech team again, another big shootout to me. I think if they can get into the player, I mean, they've got the offense to go to dinner. They just look like they can't stop anybody. That's going to be a problem as we've seen over the last four or five years teams that win the national championship. Usually do it with a solid defense. Oklahoma just doesn't have that right now. Are you believing that the Alabama crimson tide has face their toughest opponent already before the college football playoff? Or do you think Georgia could end up being that team? No, I you know, I think LSU defensively was team. They were going to say I mean, I talked to a couple of weeks ago against Florida. We saw obviously what happened to Florida this weekend. I mean, there's no one years do blaster the team as a whole is nowhere as good as last year's national championship caliber team. So to me at the gala. She was the best shot of a teen having Alabama right now in the regular season. The now, you know when we get to if they get to the play offs. You know, I think Clemson has got a good chance they match up. Really? Well, if Alabama is a mentioned Michigan with defense is a good opportunity. So right now, I mean, Alabama now they've got pastel LSU doors really open for them to kind of just run the table. And of course, for another college football playoff. I gotta tell you Matt Michelle joining us, by the way from the Orlando Sentinel here on the jonky Kate show CBS sports radio. He covers college football for the Atlanta sent them nationally. But you're right in the backyard of UCF they claimed last year's national championship. And. I'm a temple guy. So I'm just going to be honest with the up, I'm a huge temple football fan. But to me if temple university has its best offensive performance ever in the history of the program on your home field. You aren't in any way, a part of the national championship discussion. Is that too harsh on my part? No, I think you look at the defensive effort again. That's that's the worst four homers UCF has had in three or four years. I think Campbell had almost three hundred yards at the end of the first quarter and nothing against the Anthony Russo. You know, they made Anthony Russo. Look, you know, look look almost Heisman worthy based on performance. I don't think this is the same defense ahead last year. And I think. You told each other much like Alabama. A lot of ways they're gonna go over the offense. But it's going to be the defense of anything that's going to trip up this team. They're playing well enough. I think when you look at what the American is right now. Again. I don't think they've got a plot. Excuse me, a path to the playoffs. I don't think that's going to happen. But I think they could get to a new poll. Which is saying a lot for program there. Three years ago was winless when Owen twelve sure, you know, it's trying to you know, really kind of establish itself as a national brand they've been able to do that over the last eighteen months, they continue to do the things they're doing now that brand is still going to be there. They're more people talking about now than there were, you know, five years ago when they were playing in siesta bowl, and they beat Baylor. So that's a big deal for this program. And it'd be deal for school. Yeah. I think I think so I mean, you know, the Pac twelve and a whole it's just really struggled the last couple of years, and for some reason or not I think once they get into their conference play. You know, they've been you know, they stumbled teams have stumbled. He thought Washington was going to be at the beginning of the year and they've stumbled Stanford still struggled I think Washington state right now with the only one last, you know, they're playing good football as they possibly can right now. Recruiting in the Pac twelve oh. Is it is it the fact that recruiting dropped off? I mean, people were talking about like the Notre Dame and USC coming up USC's a four loss USC team oriented. I mean, some of its recruiting. And I I think some of it's the fact that you know, we've seen we've seen the conference as a whole, you know, kind of struggle know, they had lots of turnover coaches, I think people forget, you know, that, you know, you're Kevin someone her bad words and chip Kelly, you know, and they went through a kind of a coaching Tarasov this last year. They also lost some big name stars. You know, when you see, you know, Josh Rosen and Sam darnold at Luke Falk are league, you know, for for the conference as a whole, I it took a big hit in the offseason. But again, it's kind of a mystery to me why the Pac twelve can't be better. You know, why they don't play at a higher level of the last couple of years because it it shouldn't be recruiting. Because there's a lot of talent on the west coast. There's a lot of kids. Listen, McKenzie, Milton. He's playing at UCS right now. Mentioned you know for the Maxwell near Brian. He's from Hawaiian Pac twelve schools should have been recruiting him really heavily, and then they did because of the size. So I think some of that is recruiting and they need to keep some of those kids in that area there. So I think Washington state's doing a better job over the last couple of years like Mike Leach, obviously salsas program. Well, whether or not they get a team in the playoff. I think the hopes are very slim right now. Okay. Matt this is gonna be the question, you're. On sports radio. But I'm going to say to you, you're free to write a column on it if you'd like. I'm asking you right now that if you write the story this year about Alabama being beaten what is the final score of the game. Because I'm wondering if Alabama's beaten what's going to be the score. Like, what is somebody going to do what they keep them to twenty-five? Like what what's the score of the game? If you think Alabama, I and you may not think that they're going to lose. But if if you ever wrote that story this year what was the final score of the game. You know, I think it would be you know, somewhere in the twenty twenty twenty five type situation. I listen to our Bama has struggled with its kicking game three or four years. Now, they haven't been tested. Their offense has been so good at some point. If someone were to get them into into a close game shootout and force them to actually football. I mean, that's where an plus you know, you look at their secondary their secondary. You know, no one has been don't take advantage of it as well. But now the secondary is not nearly as strong as it was over the last couple of years. So for me, you know, I I think there's a team out there who might be able to do that. But it's going to be a close game. And like I mentioned before Clemson Michigan a team with solid defense could keep the game close. I don't think it's going to be like a shootout, I think we have a very close game. But it could come down to like a field goal or some special teams play. And that's where Alabama times weakest of last year for years. I E mail or is this morning, and and tweeter that say to me. Well, Michigan Michigan doesn't that's the team Alabama doesn't wanna face shape Patterson, and that offense how many points do they think they're scoring on Alabama. See I just don't think I don't to me. I think Clemson. I would agree matches up. I mean because you look at what Clemson has on the defensive line. It's one of the best defense lines in the country. You know, they put a lot of pressure there in the backfield a lot if you're going to get to as we saw a little bit. What else you yesterday if you can get two to eight hundred and make a make a couple of mistakes. So I know fans are griping about having, you know, maybe Alabama Clemson again the national championship game. But to me that's the matchup that probably best fits team is going to beat Alabama this year. Tony Barnhart told me a few weeks ago. He goes he keeps hearing those complaints. So he just says one it's your team go beat them. That's the way we can not have to be facing that game. Again, one of your teams needs to go beat them. And if they don't they should just. Enjoy the game. So Matt enjoy your work and thank you for making time for me this morning. Hey, no problem. Thank you. How to talk to you later. Thanks Matt that Moore shell joining us from the Orlando Sentinel here in the UK show on CBS sports radio..

"The better always makes for a fun engagement. I've got to tell you my thoughts on so where guys should move to tell I'm gonna be like a real estate agent. I'm gonna tell some guys where they need to move coming up. But I want Jake in Chicago to have voice, Jake. You can bat leadoff today on the show. Good morning. Jake. Good morning. John. Thanks for taking the call. You could not be more right about college. Football the regular season is the offs. Okay. You you do not need for have eight teams in the playoffs because they were going to beat debating which two loss teams that already here chance to compete for the national title. It's the best to lack we our semifinals. Wake. You just said Ohio State Michigan. If everything holds the winner will Ohio State Michigan Ohio state Michigan is like a round of sixteen game for those two teams. It's like a round of sixteen game because one of them advances and then advances to the big ten title game with a chance. I mean, we don't need the there has never been a year that anybody can point to where they could say to me one of the five through eight teams when we've had the college football playoff could've gone on a three game run and won the national title, not one because guess what? If you lose two or three games of the regular season. You don't deserve to be national champions in college football. It's not the NFL. Not professionally. No, it's not it just isn't. And by the way, the big ten football. I'm going say it again people are like just jaws dropping about Michigan last night. Oh my gosh. Did you see what Michigan did hear them? Oh, Penn State sucks. Breaking news. Let's break into programming. Penn State socks. And James Franklin continues to pedal, the snake oil did James Franklin take the blame for the loss last night. Did he take it? Did he say that? It was kids not having their cell phones off during meetings over hyped for God's sakes. No, one gets more talk than Penn State. Oh, it's pets pets states pack, baby their pack with James Franklin, really? This can be painted in no other way, then an absolute atrocious. Backward slide for Penn State football backwards slide, you didn't even compete. You didn't even show up to compete that should be unacceptable as if losing those back to back games at home shouldn't have been unacceptable to you. We are overrated we are over rated and over hyped and James Franklin. I think finally can sit there in front of the media and go, you know, what it wasn't about the kids not turning off their cell phones. It was about the fact that my coaching staffs not getting the job done at all. By the way. If you could read about James Franklin's exit from Vanderbilt, you may understand why really really don't buy into James Franklin. Go read about it case you missed it. Because it's something that for whatever reason the media tries to just sort of downplay go back, and look how did that exit happen? And why did it happen? You might want to check it out eight five five two one two four CBS eight five five two one two four CBS. So. You get Manny Machado. With his opportunity to make big money this off season and the youngest big-name free agents ever in the history of the game with him and Bryce Harper. And strangely enough Bova earlier on of the week was listing out. The odds of where they thought Bryce Harper and Manny Machado would go. And and I say strangely enough. They had the Philadelphia Phillies is the favourite for both of them. May I give the Philly some advice? No, no, no. No. No. No, no, don't do it. Resist. The urge to be you resist the urge to be the Phillies. Resist the urge to try to say, well, we can be the Yankees. If we want to choose one. Choose one. If you're the favorites from Bova to land, both everybody knows there's a really good chance that one of them is happening. That people are talking in baseball circles. And if you believe reports yesterday Steve Phillips. Coming out of the report on his Twitter feed that the Yankees are reportedly not in the mix for Harper. I think it's clear. That if the betting experts are telling you, it's the Phillies, and they're willing to spend the money, and then the cubs go and bite on the Cole hamels extension. You know, getting Cole hamels onboard and picking up his option year at that price tag. That tells me that the cubs already knew what was going on. That Harper's probably leaving. And he's probably going to be a Philly. But the idea of Machado and Harper on one team, I gotta tell you. I think I'm rea-. I may be overreacting to words. And I like Manny Machado skill set. I love watching him play the game. I think he's a really interesting character of the game. But when someone tells me that they don't play hard sometimes, and they're not, Johnny hustle. I don't want them. One them not interested. You're not going to be part of my plans. You are not going to be part of my plans Raphael in Vermont joins us Rafael, you're on the jonky Kate show. Good morning. Dawn. Yeah. I'm here. Just want to say, I just wanna sing something. How you like me? Now, I'm on my way. How'd you feel about Michigan? Are you crazy? Think about what the Michigan beat willow. Are you celebrating Michigan beating a two loss now three loss? Penn State and thinking that's a statement. I am celebrating everything I can from the way from where we used to be where you use could be you lost to the best team in your schedule. And you beat a three loss now. Penn State team. Oh my gosh. We should know what? Call call Bama. Call Nick Sabin right now. Next say tell Nick Sabin don't even show up for that national title game. 'cause Michigan could be there. Are you serious? Are you serious? I know you're going to celebrate Rafael. I'm going to tell me tell them to take your call then. Because if you're celebrating wins over a team that already lost twice embarrassingly at home, and you're counting that is some sort of benchmark of how good Michigan is what when Michigan plays win Michigan has played a legitimate opponent. Once this year. And they lost. They lost to them. They've already lost. We'll see now when they beat Ohio State. I will be impressed because you know, why Rafael they don't usually they don't usually when they when you call call me, then to brag on Michigan. You call me. Yeah. You call me. Then I love you, see Rafael. Thank you, buddy. Oh my gosh. This is how far big ten has fallen by the way, I suggested again to the big ten network. They should just show the games in black and white those big ten network games. Just start broadcasting them in black and white because it actually suits the style of play more. Go switch between whatever game is on the big ten network. Whatever games on. Just flip. I think big ten network six ten on my TV if I'm not mistaken switch between that and the SEC network. Whatever games in the SEC network. And watch the two games. I've had my wife do it. I've had my daughter do it, and they don't know football. And I just said the tell me about these games just to sit for a second. Tell me about these games and the girls who know nothing about football that they like certain players or anything like that said boy that game is much slower much slower. I'm saying just start showing the games in black and white. It could be a really unique thing. Build up viewership. Justin shackles in the house. Justin, what's going on, buddy? John kincaid. What's up on Justin? Does the does the idea? Manny Machado was a Yankee appeal to a Yankee fan this morning. Yes. I think he still does. But I think it would have to happen. On the Yankees terms. And I think that's how the fans look at it too. I don't think they want another ten year contract for that's the only way you're going to get him. I with the buddies go now, I have been told that again, I do not know that my source is impeccable. But I think my sources pretty good. I've been told it will be a four year walkaway. He'll have a four year walkaway. I think I think you're going to have in with both guys reagents you're gonna have everything's going to be catered to them. I think Manny goes to the place that offers the highest dollar. But again, I think they're going to have got years in year four. I think that's awesome. I think that's awesome for them. I I'm all for the player negotiating something to their benefit but Machado to the Yankees. I'm telling you. I think it's I think it's dangerous. I think it's I think. I think though, if you could possibly again, I don't think this is going to happen. I think if you tell them, hey, you can come here. We will pay you, you know. Forty million a year, but it'll be for a five year deal. And then you hate free agency again at thirty one with Dapi something. And then I think you think Harper is out with the Yankees. I didn't see that being a fit anyway. But Steve Phillips usually some pretty good stuff. Steve's got some good ears on what's going on in the world of baseball. Yes. It makes sense that they wouldn't be into another huge contract. After what they did last year. I don't I don't put it past them. I don't put right past them. Because you they for so long talked about how they didn't want to get tied down to one of those long term deals, and then obviously Giancarlo Stanton for the price that he was available for they fell flat. But still it's it's, you know, a decade more of of a guy that's your to. So. It's tough because they say they go one way they want to go the other. And you never know. I won't be shocked. If they do usher out another ten year deal for for one of these guys. My money would be more Machado. But I I really feel like neater going to happen. Unless the Yankees say, hey, you can come here to New York. We'll pay you. But the longevity is going to be in our terms. It's alright it's alright to that Anthony's Matt's already been in the mix for any of them Anthony's. There's this narrative that people are trying to pull New York that the Mets could be players now, really. We're not we got really van wagon. And now he wants to grow to lead the way, we got in Brody, we thrust. Oh, jeez. You guys are such a train wreck. Absolutes train wreck. He can't get the Mets to spend money. No one can. Oh my gosh. Seriously. You gotta go back to Bernie Madoff to get the Mets to spend money. I mean, that's the problem once that once. That went down the Mets have just been. They've been a little tight with the purse strings. I we got a lot coming up for you, the show look forward to having you be a part of things I'm gonna tell you what the grossest places, you might not even believe you go, which is crazy. Plus if you're saying that Notre Dame isn't legitimate. You're being lazy national sports talk show host. And I'll explain why the junky Cato CBS sports radio. Here's just a chuckle..

They'll huddle for Penn State. I attended their forty seven. Brandon Polk now said I'll watch side, right? You want Johnson set left inside hand off to Sanders that he will spin off left tackle into Spartan territory. Justin lane makes the tackle at the MSU forty six. Those are the most explosive guys on this Penn State team the guys who connected on their past Jason Nick sorely. And handler, that's right. "All right. Welcome back to you. See football podcast on Monday today here. As we're gonna go over these games for the big ten and looking at them. Come just from a from a standpoint and veto what? What. Games games are going to matter the most obviously to the invocations on these teams specifically and what games we wanna watch, obviously, what's what are the big marquee matchups for this season? Alright, so let's get right to it as the first one, obviously we like to look at. We don't want. We don't want to just pull everybody out of the water, but the big game of the year always is the game at the end of the season between Michigan and Ohio State. I can have the most implications of of any game. Probably this season in the big ten because it's going to be two teams that are really buying vying for a spot, ten championship game out of the ten east as well as being in a spot where they could. Possibly get in that large birth into the cultural playoff because of the fact that you're gonna have paulie down years again from the pack twelve. We're gonna have a team that's going to be qualifying for it and you're not gonna have the same thing from the big twelve this year. I think with the with Oklahoma and public, not quite getting to that level. Everybody thought they were going to be at. So we're probably going to have or there's gonna be a definite possibility that we're going to have to teams from the big ten make it to the cost of playoff. I mean, honestly, it's do it's time for it. I mean, I mean, I think there's probably multiple teams that think that they have been snubbed out of the big ten we had last year was how state the year before that was probably Penn State. We've had a couple want me know how to make a four seat and won the national championship out of that position just a few years ago, but. Definitely year where we're going to have either going to beat up on each other and they're going to knock each other all out or say, like, you know, say we're gonna look at these games so say, well, how stay beaks? Michigan. But Michigan, Michigan state in Michigan state beat Ohio State, and it all kind of goes back and forth. And they all end up with one win. I am. Sorry, Sorry. one loss and. One ends up at one win or something like that. So it all gets figured out as you go along here. In this season. But the big one always is going to be Michigan and Ohio State plant simple Michigan, Ohio, state, and of the season. Number twenty four th from Ohio State in Columbus as they're going to be hopefully playing on a faded. But like I said, they could always, you know, beat up on each other kind of sometimes can work that way with these division teams, they're going to beat each other up, say Penn State wins one game or Penn State. MS beats Michigan state in Michigan. State beats Michigan with the Michigan beads, Ohio State or all the way around. You never know whether Elkin end up with one loss and kind of muddle up that they tend model up the CFP scenario last year where we thought the Bill, the ball was going to be Miami. They're all in undefeated all guys pit in front of them. And I roll into the ACC championship game undefeated. Nope, they lose to pit. They lose to lose to Clemson badly, and then they lose their bowl game, which is just, I mean, suck. At least, but you know, it is what it is going back to the big ten stuff other game before this could be. This could be where we have to hiccup games for the Michigan state and for how state Michigan. One of the house take one is going to be at Penn State, September twenty twenty-ninth. As you know, of course, ramifications. Always are going to be found from different things and strength. This guy Joel road road win. So this is obviously a huge feather in the cap for Ohio State and whoever is leading them at this at this time. To get past the Penn State team from from beaver stadium in front of all those crazy screaming fans likely would be a white out there for for that game..

"They have Nebraska at home at the end, the season they have Maryland at home. They have Wisconsin at home, tough one. That's basically the winner that game. I bet you wins the west. And then I a state was an Iowa in Illinois. So nothing they have no Michigan team know-how state, basically Penn State team at Penn State team. Maybe they lose that one. But if you eventually, I told you if you'd be Wisconsin at home, you should be able to go through one loss and when when when that division. So I like I mean, this is going out their schedule the most talented team in the in that one was Constance. Seventh in the coaches poll right now. So maybe that maybe I'll just will blow them out of the water anyways, but. Even if I will be Wisconsin. They have two losses on the season. They lose depend St. Louis was kansin when everything else to Allah's well, it's look. Those are those concert schedule. I think it was as a couple of more than two losses on the schedule least. At least. Ones we looked at. I remember I should memorize just by now, but I mean they have to go the mission that the golden northwestern. That's not an easy task go to Penn State. They have to play. BYU at home. That's interesting. Little game Nebraska at home. They actually don't play. They don't play Ohio, say either, and they don't play Michigan state either. But I mean they had to go to Penn State, go to Michigan to go to north western. There's all those all losses right there. All of them. I mean, if they get a win, they win one of them. If they went to of those, this should be fine and they'll win the division. So I mean, yeah, Wisconsin their number there was, I mean there number seven for a reason. So, I mean, Jonathan Taylor is pretty talented, and Alex Brooke is is definitely. I mean passable, I guess he's, he's a game manager. He's not gonna. Do anything special for you. Number eight is going to be Miami. As they come in, of course, only grows year is going to be the lynchpin of this whole season. The defense at the final how the turnover chain rock. And and again, those in those turnovers link Rosiere can just protect the ball and be efficient as passing and also uses legs. They should just find as they have a good little core there in Miami is this, this is the year. It was the pop as they have a test early in the first game, LSU neutral field Cowboys stadium or eighteen stadium in Arlington, they'll be someone on September second. So they'll, they'll wrap it up for the segment. We'll come back and I'm gonna finish off the top fifteen of the of these coaching rankings, and then we'll go into the top player rankings on the back into the segments. "I mean jim try kind of the perfect jim tressel goes and leaves under has the issues with trout prior and all the scandal is stuff over there with the crazy rules rules and we'll get into that but he has the opening like oh and there's a pretty good program over there in columbus home take that job so now now now reminder is probably i mean sorry jim your he's the best coach in the conference i mean he is your own three against him your own three against arben meyer jim so in jim harbaugh has talking about but jim harbaugh's right there as well jimmy's franklin on sleep j i love james franklin i love doing sprinkl i've loved james franklin since he was the head coach of penn state because that's the guy who had come in and and write that ship come in after with no crew tes lost all the sanctions and against his a program came in the gets all odds get saquon barkley gets guy like trace mcsorley in there too right that right that ship of the of the program and penn state is now relevant penn state's relevant for the last few years and you have james franklin think for that and he still has trace mcsorley this year who can be very good quarterback for him and could get that penn state team i mean when you're in big big big ten east you have franklin you have three massive coaches not only three massive programs you have three massive coaches in their own right jim harbaugh who's been in the nfl one was stanford andrew luck niners i mean obviously finally getting his own finally getting a real quarterback who can do something for him in shape patterson the season he's a storied the malema story but he's been very successful coach right.

"And then looking like maybe they can compete with penn state team that i progress a little bit also i was constantine i don't think they play those if they play wisconsin they have the schedules out for this coming season i mean we are so far that's only april friends it's only april but we're still talking about some some some cultural stories because football is pretty much year round i mean i can only talk draft so much because draft is the draft is exhausting honestly but we definitely have some spring football talk about michigan state mc that ohio state is the favourite i mean to the season in the big ten as they usually are penn state loses saquon barkley i know how state losing j t barrett but they i mean if there's a if there's a recruiter out there that's going to be able to just take away i mean take away that uncertainty it's definitely urban meyer mean the they have a graduate transfer and they have a redshirt sophomore coming into battle to replace j t barrett john joe borough and enjoying haskins i mean it's just was gonna look like they're going to be balanced out all spring and we'll find out definitely one of them will probably become a household name just like j t barrett did when we come comes this on this fall obviously when the season comes around that's we're talking about it's for ball is in play starts in september in august so we're going to be able to be talking about them as we always do when it comes to big schools.

"In allentown pennsylvania wrote before reaching the needs of conclusions the hill evans was fifteen and rigorously and objectively evaluated bucket that's kind of a nice sentence for what we're all emme you know what one scientist do that before reaching a definitive conclusions this will to was obtained rigorously at objectively valuable okay well yeah okay tells of the we don't know why waste our time reading ascendance that basically says what we already know so anyway they said it was possible the affected staff have compare notes before they were examined it that much of the evidence was based on the own reports which could have been colored by time they say they also under the age and other conditions because many dissidents describe of really the penn state team or the pentium was unable to provide many details about the patients a sex etc because again there to protect the privacy but similarities among the twenty one cases definitely merit some sort of further investigation so you know again i've never heard of something like this it's very plausible very plausible for something like this to happen uh very uncomfortable and you know your ears how the rebels is they're probably the closest access to the brain than any other body part because you have the inner ear organs that connect that have to send signals to the brain to connect to the break and microscopes quickly it's openaccess yeah there's a lot of different things that could protect the brain you got the blueberry very europe's cetera that could still protect the brain that is probably the easiest access to the breakthrough that years so some of his coming into the ears but yes the can affect the brain and you know i don't know how much we have in terms of studying law make blooms sam homes and and i you know and the effects that that that can cause but it definitely is plausible it's a shame that that.

"Weierman and this it's not because there are two sec teams 'cause i had the same problem last year when they were debating possibly putting ohio state and penn state team it's too team from any conference i got just bothers me it's it's there more teams outside the deserving that there's there's teams out there that are worthy of playing for a championship that we don't need to take two teams from the same conference specifically this year when you have two other power five school uh schools in ohio state and usc who won their conferences and had to sit at home and watch and never had that chance that bothers me like every buddy that comes into the season when you go up there in urban meyer or um you know take your coach jimbo fisher jim harbaugh paul chryst when they sit there teams down at the beginning of the year they set out their team goals and usually it's beecher rival which is usually in state it's winter conference and then it's winter national championship and typically if you go in order if you win each one of those and you meet each one of those goals you have a chance and yet for teams and penn state last year they won the conference especially this year with the house state winning the toughest conference in college football for them not to get that up opportunity i think it's i think it's messed up like i think it's as simple as that in i i the thing that drives me nuts is when other analysts than college football personalities they had good for the sport the debate and it the controversy drives up ratings an interest in talk data's bunch of bs because the people that it screws over it's not urban meyer and that's why i think he hills it would graces because his check still gonna cash it's the players like the.

"They do they do they have a chance this weekend and and you're right they've had an an improbable run this year after having a distant embarrassing season and 2016 a lot of those players were part of that last year or obviously playing this year and they they had a setback against notredame where they had a lot of turnovers and notredame would give them credit i don't think people knew how good maybe notredame was at that point earlier in the year of gained that they'd love the probably have back this just last week against northwestern where they the game you mentioned when they lost by by points and other than that they played really good football and they put themselves in a position now seven into overall five in one and conference play knocking off penn state three games left really with maryland and rectors of remaining it comes down to this weekend of big underdog going to columbus how to both of these teams respond this week ohio state a embarrassing laws we just talked about michigan state landmark win huge wind against penn state team with the whole lightning delay three or four hour delay they come back the stadiums three quarters empty just a bazaar setting and they were able to kind of find a way to win that football game and and again we we can talk about michigan state controlling their own destiny we can also talk about what the heck is happened the penn state at one point we were going to give sake want barkley the highest men penn state looked like okay there three weeks that they've got to get through michigan at home pat ohio state at michigan state if they survive these three weeks penn state's going to be in the play off penn state is going to shatter the national title and got through that first leg against michigan.

"We've got ohio state at home a six six and a half point favorite against the hated penn state nittany lions you might recall that last year penn state 124 21 in state college after grant haley returned a blocked field goal sixty yards for a touchdown i do recall yes it feels like any tardy since you and i talked about a highest state what if they been up to lately you might ask somebody go burying teams like unlv and rutgers in maryland and nebraska they've won their last five games by an average of forty two points jt bear on the year has a twenty one to one touchdown to interception ratio jk dobbins averaging seven and a half a carry they are very very good and not only that they had a week to prepare for penn state team that just made a statement by drilling michigan and got a good look at what penn state was going to do against a big name primetime type opponent totally i would say this i don't know what your method is for trying to figure out who's going to win an and who isn't if you're kind of on the fence here don't bother looking at the numbers because they're not they're really not going to help you that much we know both teams are good the only thing that i could glean from my tile metrics is that penn state special teams are better than i thought.

"There you you face of penn state team though this saturday that's not only the defendant conference champs but one that be pretty handily last year there year better now and they have not one not one but two heisman candidates in their acfield you know how do you approach to this one and how how can you limit the well you know first thing is we have to play our best football starts there and that that that was our problem last year and um you know we we unfortunately my time i've been involved like most people would have dogged in sports for a while uh you got a couple of memorable games and that's certainly was one and uh you know when you play a team that's outstanding like penn state was last year and it's interesting that those time uh not exactly this time but early in the season last year there were two into football team yeah and they got knocked off uh pretty pretty handily uh their first conference game last year and that just progressively got better and better and by late october they they were hamann and so it was a situation we're planning a team that was really had it gone uh they were at all it was the night game for them and they had it gone and and we never never showed up for the fight and we did the same thing in uh three thousand and four daughters on the state unfortunately it was a night game there too and uh we've beaten them here before we never got our heads up on we we got nailed it really badly and uh very similar point rights home so uh you know it's it's a weektoweek proposition but the what the moral stories if you're a play team is talented and his experienced and wellcoached coaches penn state uh you better be playing your absolute best even have a chance a remote chance and that's why take for us saturn saturday you know you start the competencies as i mentioned the defending champs and have a very tough back in how tough as it in this conference weektoweek i mean people always talk about the toughest and.

"The expectations are there for him as they didn't have those expectations at the start of last season that's a great point and as some let look at the ucla look at their situation last year with their quarterback with the expectations and ucla did not have the kind of season that most of the amal i'll i'll put muscle that most of us thought that the bruins would have shirts analyses usc with all the expertise to a certain extent penn state has similar expectations with the way that they finish last season but i like this penn state team i don't like amendment certain spices here but i liked them as a as a team that could end up pulling a couple of upsets although it'd be muslim and what they will be considered upsets of it goes to the situations that could mechanize raul i like the big ten this year actually of more so than i have in in recent years but the expectations for us a you're going to be sky high you point out some very good things about the the fortunate the way the scheduled broke for them last year and the fact that they gave up forty nine against a very good penn state team but i think i think penn state was actually test and more over the latter half of their season usc was over the latter half although i will say that uh the team that uh they faced in the in washington that they upset was a very good washing team and i think i think wash washington had keep an eye out for them again this year i'm with you gotta keep an eye on for the husky zero thing going back to you sera quickest not only did they be washing up in seattle they fight are dominated of arming the was an absolute defence of destruction by the trojans i mean you know pearson's offense shake browning dante pettus couldn't get going the shutdown john ross completely took out miles gaskin either uasc's defense is not getting enough credit because the sam darnell he plays the gammar glamour position at a glamour school but i think row jones of tailback position can be very good for us sc i do like their talent but i wanna see how they match.
