I appreciate it. Yeah, so I was in the Navy from 2000 to 2006. I was a nuke machinist mate and I was on board the USS Theodore Roosevelt During that time we deployed three different times One for enduring freedom and two for Iraqi freedom. Awesome Yeah, Tomahawks. I Well, I worked down in the reactor room. I was an RM div so not Worked on the I think it was to plant I was on to plant and so we would stand a lot of watch down there and work my way up through all the different reactor division watches and and then also got both of my Warfare pins and all that kind of stuff. So yeah, this is a cool time to be in in the service and Got to see a lot of ocean and then also a lot of different Port calls on the second and third deployment our first one we deployed like like a week after 9 -11 So we were out to sea for quite some time. Yeah, awesome. Well good story So did your transition out of Navy come quickly? Were you expecting it? You know, what was your preparation level at that? Yeah, I think the first and second deployment just because our rotation deployment rotation was so Condensed I just kind of saw that this was a pretty hard life and That I was going to get out I wanted to you know definitely have a wife and kids and I saw I just kind of knew that this is something that I Wasn't meant out for me. I thought I wanted to stay in and be a career guy, but I decided to change So I got I knew I was gonna get out I was just gonna do my six years and then I would get out so I had Decided that I was going to go to college and actually my last deployment I had gotten that calculus for dummies book because I had been out of school high school for six years and had to get prepped for all these Tests and everything. So I was actually out out to sea on my time off teaching myself calculus so I could pass the cow tests when I got back to college, but I you know, I Decided I was gonna go to school. I went to old old Dominion for a year I was gonna I tell people I was gonna go to civil engineering and I remember sitting with a The counselor and and they said that's great You're gonna have to take four years of calculus to get through the civil engineering and I was like, oh man well, how about something that doesn't take that and I said, well, how about construction management and the reason Construction was just so interesting to me was it was so tangible You were part of the team and you could really kind of see the results I mean the reactor is really cool and exciting But once you turn it on it just stays on and then just make sure nothing happens So it's kind of the same thing over and over again So I needed to I need hands ability and that's something in the structure So that's how I ended up in the construction, but I I had a hard time finding a job. I ended up being a trash man while I was in in College I so could not I could not find a job. I mean, I remember applying You know any anywhere I just kind of needed some work to supplement my income While I was in college Because then they I had the GI Bill, but they didn't have to post 9 -11 GI Bill yet So I still had to pay rent he grow You know had to pay it had all that that I had to pay for so I had to get a job while I was going to college So I ended up Being a trash guy and that's what I did I would go into houses and then clean out like all the drywall scraps and Wood scraps and all the trash and everything then take it to the dump and I could try and get one or two loads You know, I'd structure my days half days. So you don't meet a lot of people in college smelling like the dump and You know being five or six years older than everybody else, but it is all good. I wouldn't change it for the world Yeah, so So you did finish in school? I did. Yeah, I got my degree. I got my degree in three years. I actually Changed colleges from Old Dominion to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore I ended up getting a job as a as a construction laborer at a local construction company and Then working my way up in project management I did that all in about three years and And then I started I worked at that company for four or five years and then about ten years ago I started my own business and The reason Delmarva veterans builders and for the listeners out there Delaware, Maryland, Virginia that Delmarva It's a peninsula about two hours east of Washington DC It was a testament to the the veteran attitude I thought that we could bring that kind of attitude and mentality to the local construction workforce and we would kind of elevate or make it a little bit more professional than The the competition and we would just have a lot of success really fast and that's what we did We were really really successful. We took off, you know, we had the hockey stick curve and It was just a lot of fun. So but it I wanted to Really kind of hone in on veteran employment not only like permanent employment, but kind of transitional because at that time this would have been 2012 13 when I started business 13 The wars were winding down veteran employment was really unemployment was really really high. So The the timing was was right for that. And so it was in the national news all the time But I just knew that that mentality that type of workforce and then really just the construction industry and the you know, the military have a lot of nice parallels teamwork Clear goal in mind. Yeah, they're deliverables all that kind of stuff. So it's a nice parallel. A highlight from Operation Atlantic Resolve

"Well then, welcome to the Dennis Prager Show. Bob France sitting in and yeah, you hear the music, you know where I'm coming to you from. Cleveland, Ohio, the home base, therelieffactor .com studios if you will. Our WHK radio, AM1420, the answer here in Cleveland, Ohio. An honor to be sitting in for Dennis once again. And of course today being Yom Kippur, which is why Dennis is off today. As he has of course been celebrating the holy days and starting back with Rosh Hashanah. The Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. And it's a wonderful thing. It really is. I kind of have to familiarize myself not being Jewish myself. I have to familiarize myself with some of the days and some of the reasons and the explanations for the calendar. And Yom Kippur is one of the ones that to me is the most solemn. A Day of Atonement, a day of reflection and looking inside and asking for forgiveness for the shortcomings that perhaps we have and so forth. And so to Dennis and to everyone who is commemorating and or celebrating and or taking part in participating in the Yom Kippur day today. This very important Day of Atonement. God's blessings to you all. Seriously, really appreciate that. In the meantime, we've got work to do. We have a lot of very important things to talk about and I want you to be a part of the show. 8 Prager776, that's 877 -243 -7776. I want to know, is it acceptable for me to be concerned with the plight of others but being unwilling to do any more than I have already done? And yes, if you're wondering, I'm talking about Ukraine. Yes, if you're wondering, I'm talking about the 113 billion dollars we have already sent to Ukraine to help them ward off the invasion of the Soviet, well, the Russians. Who are trying to rebuild the Soviet empire, I suppose, if you think that they are going to not stop in Ukraine and then advance to other European nations and so forth. I don't think so. I don't think they have the ability to do that any longer. I don't think they are the fearsome foe they were when the Soviet bloc was, of course, raining havoc on Eastern Europe and raining havoc on the world. But I want to talk about the Ukrainian situation. Here's two reasons. Two reasons why. The first of which is the fact that in Canada, over the weekend in front of the Canadian Parliament, the Lord Mayor Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, who came to the United States for the second time, hat in hand, saying please drop all you can into the hat here so that we can go back and continue our war with Russia. They came looking for more money, asking for another 25 billion dollars. And again, I'll get to the point about how I feel about spending that money and how I feel about it going forward in a moment, but he came to the United States and then he went up to Canada. And he went up to Canada before the Canadian Parliament and he sat there and he asked for support and financial remunerations from the Canadians as well. And the Canadians, of course, listened happily. And, you know, we're all all for supporting this. But what they did after that is something that is quite simply incomprehensible to me. Canadian organizations Jewish are among those now slamming the Canadian Parliament for giving voice to and a standing ovation to a man who fought for the Nazis during World War II. All because he is Ukrainian. All because he's Ukrainian. Video and photos show the Canadian Parliament erupting into cheers on Friday after President Zelensky's visit to the capital of Ottawa, when Canadian lawmakers also honored Yaroslav Hunka, a 98 -year -old Ukrainian immigrant who fought for the 1st Ukrainian Division, according to the Toronto Star, the division also known as the Waffen -SS Galicia Division, which fought for the Nazis and its paramilitary arm. The Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center said in a statement, the fact that a veteran who served in a Nazi military unit was invited to... And by the way, this story that I'm starting with, this day, this first hour, this story is not because of today being the Jewish Day of Atonement. This is outrageous. This is when it happened is when it happened. Understand that. The fact that it is occurring, though that we're talking about this and it just happened during these holy days, is another point entirely. The fact that a veteran who served in a Nazi military unit was invited to and given a standing ovation in Parliament is shocking. At a time of rising anti -Semitism and Holocaust distortion, it's incredibly disturbing to see Canada's Parliament rise to applaud an individual who was a member of a unit in the Waffen -SS, a Nazi military branch responsible for the murder of Jews and others, and that was declared a criminal organization during the Nuremberg Trials. Some are calling for full -throated apologies from Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau and from Ukrainian President Zelensky. This honor was given to a Ukrainian because everything now has to go Ukraine's way, because Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine. We have to come up with untold, unlimited amounts of treasure and time for anything having to do with Ukraine. So they brought a Nazi military fighter, 98 -year -old Nazi fighter in World War II before the Canadian Parliament, and because he's Ukrainian, he got a standing ovation. That's how, beside ourselves, I think we've become with this, we have to do anything and everything we can to help Ukraine. So that's number one. The second reason, by the way, is we continue to try to make some sense out of the, you know, now that we have the actual official figures confirmed by the White House of $113 billion already spent in support of Ukraine. In addition to that, they say that our commitment to helping Ukraine has no end and there is no cost limit. They will do this no matter what the cost for however long it takes. The problem is, of course, there is no end game in sight. There's no end to the commitment that has been identified. When does it end? What standard would it be to say no matter how long it takes to finish the thought? Chuck Schumer? Joe Biden? Mitch McConnell? I don't care if you're Democrat or Republican. If you are giving an unended blank check, an unending blank check to Ukraine, what does that mean? What does that look like? You say for as long as it takes to... fill in the blank. What? Does every Russian in Ukraine have to retreat back across the border or is that not enough? Does every Russian have to leave Crimea, the peninsula that Russia took in 2014 when Obama was president? Or do they just have to stop bombing and stop the fighting? What exactly does it mean to say we're going to give this money until... or I'm sorry, no matter how long it takes to do what? Define the end game. There isn't one.

"Episode number 500 is up next on the veteran on the move podcast Ten years of podcasting 500 interviews with the veteran community great military veteran military spouse entrepreneurs out there Holy cow, I can't believe it's ten years in 500 episodes. Thank you for listening. Thank you for all your support Looking forward to another 500 episodes another 10 years Jeff star with win home inspection is up next on veteran on the move Welcome Welcome to veteran on the move if you're a veteran in transition an entrepreneur wannabe or someone still stuck in that J -o -b trying to escape this podcast is dedicated to your success And now your host Joe crane Whether you're taking a trip to relax or see somewhere new You deserve a travel card that does the work for you for more on Navy Federal's flagship rewards visit Navy federal org Coastguard veteran Jeff star from win home inspection Jeff 30 -plus years in the Coast Guard. That's awesome Looking forward to talking about business and entrepreneurship what you're doing these days. So take us back Tell us what you did in the Coast Guard Hey Joe, thanks for having me on your show. Well, it actually started in high school I joined the Missouri National Guard when I was 17 went to boot camp in Portland win, Missouri Graduated from that went back to high school and did my senior year and then moved on to AIT which is the training for the army and I was a tactical radio communicator So basically I carried a backpack radio and worked on their radios got a chance to go to Germany For a large NATO US exercise and kind of opened up my world view and my eyes a little bit You know as an 18 year old coming out of Missouri central, Missouri There's a you know, I lived in farmland. So I got to see what was going on there now I'm in another country traveling around with people that are a lot older than me that been around so Got a got a good view into a little bit about what the world was going what was going on in the world So fast forward I decided to go to college I'm in college pursuing a degree in aviation and Too much college activities and not enough good enough grades and they they gave me the invitation not to return You gotta see MSU Yes, yeah, right there in Lawrenceburg. Yep Yep, so great program great school Just it wasn't a good time for me at that time too. I wasn't ready So now I'm deciding what am I gonna do am I gonna join the army and Start seeing some commercials about the Coast Guard on TV. I'm like in Missouri You don't see a lot of Coast Guard, you know, because we're in the center of the country. We're landlocked There's there is a Coast Guard there. I found out later on but not to my knowledge at the time So I get in my car. I live in Colombia and I drive to st. Louis to see a recruiter I get the recruiters office goes. Hey, thank you for your interest But I can't recruit you you live on the wrong side of the Missouri River you need to go to Kansas City So now back in the car driving to Kansas City and Get all the stuff done and there's an eight -month wait list to get in so I go ahead and sign the paperwork and delay entry finally getting the Coast Guard and After graduating boot camp, I end up going to Tillamook Bay, Oregon So basically they've got a motor lifeboats that are like the tanks in the water They're meant to take 30 40 foot waves you get there the windows are made of bulletproof glass 300 bulletproof glass you get into the boat and You strap in with a helmet your dry suit and the seat belts and buckle in And you go out there and take waves and try not to take waves But sometimes you have to for the fishing boat to fleet that's coming in So what an exciting job, you know at 21 years old you're out there charging these giant waves Get in beat up by the waves and pulling people out of water and rescuing them It could have ended right there. I could have stayed in that job forever. It was it was amazing. It was an adrenaline rush But I wanted to do aviation still So I put my name on the school list to go to aviation the Coast Guard and I went to Elizabeth City, North Carolina for and Electronics avionics Had to wait a year for that school, so I got to play around in Oregon for a while the school 38 weeks Learn how to do all the component repair of all the electronics on the plane Graduated from there and get my first units in Traverse City, Michigan like where's Traverse City, Michigan and it's all the way up north and As far it's in the northern part of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan So and at the time they were flying Of course each series or what the army would have or other services BC Kings or or Jolly Green Giants So I get there and I learned that after going to school all this time. I really don't know anything So it's time. It's time to start learning. You're an apprentice. So, you know, you start learning everything about the plane and the organization And Soon as I learned everything about the HCI thought I needed to know we transitioned to 60s So then we get the Seahawks the Coast Guard version of the Seahawk so got to do that and so spend eight to ten years Learning, you know my craft and trade and and just enjoying the Coast Guard You know the camaraderie the people in the organization the mission And then took a took my next tour to Alaska So I got to go to Kodiak, Alaska and help them transition because nobody was qualified to fly the 60s yet only the first units so I got to go up there and help stand up the program and Start, you know training everybody and flying that mission with the 60 But they didn't have the 60s yet. So I had to go back to the X trees and fly that again So it's kind of flying in both at the same time. So it was nice I mean I was getting you know, three and four hundred hours a year flight time and You know, it was Alaska some of the most beautiful flying you can imagine we do stuff that you know, I couldn't pay for So got to do that And then after leaving Traverse City or after leaving Kodiak my transition again to another helicopter I moved in Detroit and we moved to the Eurocopter 65 Which is a smaller business corporate helicopter that the Coast Guard uses for its ship based operations so I got to do that and then I'm starting to roll up on my my my 20 20 years it's gonna be coming up here pretty soon. I'm at 15. I'm starting to think what am I gonna do? So I started doing, you know different college programs. So they give my associate degree Well, I got my associate degree knocked out while I still in Detroit and then we go back to Alaska where? I'm within a two -year window now so planning on Transitioning out at 20. I go ahead and get my my Microsoft engineering degree And then that takes a year to do that so the tour in Alaska is only three years so back to Traverse City and I'm looking at getting out at that point in time and that's where I start my first business up there I started business in 2002 building computer repair computers and servicing Computers for large corporations. Yeah, where did the where the desire to where the desire to search your own business come from? Um, well, I knew I needed to get out and I didn't really want to it was gonna be hard to replace an organization I'm already in I didn't necessarily want to work for a company Yeah, and so doing my own thing in my own, you know not have to rely on somebody else To get the job done because I know I can do the job and I wanted to do it myself So there was a desire. I did that job for about four years and then Lo and behold I promoted myself out of my position. I was in in Traverse City So it was either I was in you seven at the time and I was gonna make a yay So like okay, where can I go and you know make that kind of money? I'm not I'm not generating that kind of income at this point in time So kind of put that in the back burner and shelved it for a while also, I was seeing I'd get my Microsoft degree and I saw that everything was getting outsourced and Working on hands -on technology You're always chasing the certification because everything's changing so quickly within the computer industry I wasn't sure how how much I wanted to stay continually chasing that certification So decide to go back to school we transfer to Miami at that point and That was a Big culture shift going from Alaska to Traverse City down to Miami because the missions are different. Yeah cold to hot Right. So I went more from more of a search and rescue law enforcement to more of a law enforcement search and rescue So the emphasis was more on law enforcement down in Florida with the international treaties and border protection type mission So I started going back to school again get my bachelor's degree and Finished up that and then again, so I wasn't looking at getting out at that point. We're at year 24 at that point Promoted again made Master Chief for E9 and was waiting and Wanted to go back to Detroit fortunately, nobody else wanted to go back to Detroit and I was able to pick up that job as The command enlisted advisor working for the CEO in Detroit What great job great experience wonderful people I worked with and then at that point I started working on my master's degree and business with Masters in health care administration some kind of shotgunning, you know the different things I'm planning on doing when I get out I want to make sure I could cover all the bases. I had done troop the teacher signed up for it Got a degree in history got a degree and business and then what got an MBA and then an MHA and Didn't do any of that when I got out So, what was your transition like you end up getting the JOB and was it smooth on the way out because I mean you're you're prepared educational wise but What was the twist in turn? Yeah, it's interesting because you know and it's not from the organization you don't hear but I think ourselves we underestimate our Capabilities when we're in we're thinking hey, we're in this job We've been doing the same job on the military side But when I get out I'm gonna I don't I can't how do I deal with and how do I work in that? Organization, you know, how do I fit in and how do I provide value? Yeah, and hey Jeff before before we get too far? let's take a quick break and Re -attack this on the way back Getting a new car is exciting and you deserve a hassle -free buying experience You can get a decision in seconds and enjoy great rates with everything You need in one place Navy Federalist Car Buying Center is your one -stop shop for researching Financing buying protecting and enjoying your next car you can search for new and used cars access vehicle history reports enjoy discounts on auto insurance and more and you can make the most of your time on the road wherever you go with our flagship credit card whether you're taking a trip to relax or see somewhere new You deserve a travel card does the work for you in my 33 years as a Navy Federal member I've had the flagship credit card since it first came out and we use our travel points all the time flagship credit card will earn you three times points on travel plus up to $100 in statement credits towards TSA pre -check or global entry and a free year of Amazon Prime With two times the points on all purchases outside of travel the rewards don't have to end where your vacation does For more on Navy Federalist Car Buying experience and flagship rewards visit navyfederal .org Open armed forces DoD veterans and their families credit and collateral subject to approval Navy Federalist insured by NCUA Visa is a registered service mark of Visa used by Navy Federal under license All right back talking with Coast Guard veteran Jeff Starr from Wynn Home Inspection so Jeff anyways failed to mention We talked about this for you at the record button your episode number 500 Which is a major milestone for any podcast or any podcaster So I wish I had a door prize for you or something, but I just didn't acknowledge Yeah, you're one of the few coasties I've had on the show.

A highlight from Harry Scherer

"Welcome to the Eric Metaxas Show. I shouldn't tell you this, but Eric hired someone who sounds just like him to host today's show. But since I'm the announcer, they told me, so I'm telling you, don't be fooled. The real Eric's in jail. Hey folks, welcome to Monday. This is the beginning of the week for me, and probably for most of you. Traditionally, Monday is seen as the beginning of the week. Chris Himes, how about for you? Will you consider this beginning of the week? It is. Normally it is. All right, so we're together on that. It's the beginning of the week. Now, I tell my audience, coming up in this hour, we're going to be talking to a young man named Harry Shearer, not to be confused with the man who does the voice of Montgomery Burns on The Simpsons. No, it's a different Harry Shearer. This is someone he's written for the American Conservative. He's written a long article on RFK Jr. Very interesting. We're going to explore that with him in this hour, RFK Jr. In hour two, I believe we're going to be speaking about men's fashion and why it's not just about fashion. It actually has meaning. How we dress, how we present ourselves meaning. has So get ready for that. Chris, I got to tell you, this weekend I was in a church, well, actually yesterday, I was in a church in Ben Salem, Pennsylvania. Ben Salem, Pennsylvania. It's been an hour and 40 minutes from New York. We drove out there, drove back. It's called Christian Life Church, Pastor Mike English. What a great church. I go to these places, I get so encouraged that there are churches that they get it. They are doing what I write about in my book, Letter to the American Church. They're living it out. They're not hiding in the shadows saying we don't want to be controversial. They are willing to simply speak the truth and they are blessing their congregations. I'm sure you can see my sermon there online, but it's Christian Life Church in Ben Salem, Pennsylvania. Just a privilege for me to be with those folks, to meet Pastor Mike and his wife, Christie, their son, Elijah. Just encouraging to me to meet people like this in communities like this, full of people of faith in action, not just faith in your head, which is fake faith, but faith that lives itself out, lives out, lives in action. Just beautiful. Anyway, okay, so speaking of faith in action, we want to continue to ask you to step up with Food for the Poor. Food for the Poor feeds people in our hemisphere who are suffering in Latin American countries, but as we begin the week in this country, many of you know that tropical storms and flooding are hitting the Baja Peninsula in California. Hurricane Hillary or tropical storm, whatever it was, Hillary hit landfall and deleted 30 ,000 emails. Isn't that unbelievable? Sorry, that was a joke. That was a cheap joke. That was a good one. It was a cheap joke that I stole from the Babylon Bee. But seriously, you know, when storms hit, the destruction is horrifying, and this is the first tropical storm, this is amazing, to hit Southern California in 84 years, right? Now, I want to say that meanwhile, forecasters are warning that major Atlantic hurricanes, Atlantic, are likely very soon. We have the hurricane season coming up in the Atlantic, and the reason I'm bringing this up right now is that there are 17 countries served by our friends at Food for the Poor, which is a Christian nonprofit relief agency, and this month they're focusing on emergency relief supplies because they know that hurricane season is upon us and it's going to strike many of these countries in these communities very, very hard, and they want to be prepared.

Traffic and weather on the 8th Joe Conway's in the new TLP Traffic Center. In Maryland, Sandy, the crash on the Baltimore -Washoe Parkway is south down near Powder Mill Road. Left lane remains blocked, the vehicle sitting in the median, driver apparently out of it, must pull and got into the median. You're getting by staying to the right with delays that begin up near 198. Northbounders, you're slowing to look at it. Nothing blocked on that northbound stretch but plenty to see. On the trip to the Bay Bridge, eastbound about a two and back up as you leave Baydale Drive on your way to and across the Bay Bridges, which are still configured for two lanes eastbound and three lanes westbound. Westbound delays are from before 404 toward 213 then as you approach the Queenstown merge, the lanes should be available on that particular trip. Capital Beltway through Montgomery, Prince George's Counties, nothing reported to block or slow you down. In particular, 278 Goodride, no reports of any on the 95 corridor southbound slows briefly at the decision for the Beltway and northbound approaching the rest area north of 216. Into Virginia Capital Beltway, mostly in good shape, beginning to see some delays on the inner loop leaving Tysons toward the Legion Bridge, that's fairly typical. 95 going south, slowing out of Newington toward the Occoquan and Triangle along the way. A crash at 123 confined to the right shoulder is slow again briefly southbound through Stafford. Northbound delays come out of Spotsylvania toward the Rappahannock with nothing reported blocking and the EZ Pass lanes are pointing north. Hurricane Hillary is headed toward the central Baja California peninsula after weakening to a category 2 storm. The latest update from the National Hurricane Center puts Hillary about 640 miles south southeast of San Diego packing top winds near 110 miles an hour. Forecasters say the storm is likely to cause catastrophic and life -threatening flooding over the region and the southwestern U .S. through Monday. Hurricane warnings are up for parts of Mexico with tropical storm warnings posted from the California border with Mexico north to Catalina Island. The director of the National Hurricane Center says today is the day to prepare for Hurricane Hillary if you are in southern California. Dr. Michael Brennan says those in Hillary's path need to remain on high alert even as the storm weakens. Even as the winds weaken as we're starting to see them come down now that has almost nothing to do with how much rainfall is going to occur and the impacts of that flooding that's going to occur in portions of southern California. Hillary is expected to become a tropical storm when it makes landfall. Thousands of people are rushing to evacuate the capital of Canada's northwest territories. And of course, listen to the Hillsdale Dialogues, all of them at hughforhillsdale .com or just Google Apple, iTunes, and Hillsdale. Good morning, glory America. Bonjour, hi Canada, and greetings to Montgomery County, New York, specifically to St. John'sville, Kona Johari, I think that's how I say it, Fonda, Johnstown, all of you cities. There are 10 towns in one city in Montgomery County, and thanks to Talk Radio 1120 97 .9, they have joined the Borg, and I always like to welcome aboard a new affiliate. We are the Borg. Lower your shields and surrender your ships. We will add to a biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. We're closing in on 500 platforms here at the Hugh Hewitt Show, 500 platforms. Mike Gallagher is green with envy, radio talk show host, Mike Gallagher. But we are just cooking in Montgomery County, New York, and it's great to have you along. I hope you're not underwater. The biggest story that I'm going to talk the most about, a guy named Patrick Fitzgerald, a legendary and beloved football coach at Northwestern. I'm going to spend a lot of time talking about that today, and my phone number is 1 -800 -520 -1234. If you want to weigh in on what happened at Northwestern, I'll fill you in shortly, but I want to do the news first. Northeastern storms dump over two months rain in one day on the state of Vermont. Now, I live next door in Maine during the summer, and Vermont is a mess. I mean, I don't know. I hope nobody died, but there is so much damage, and it's a weird weather system. It moved over to the northern Maine coast where I am for the summer and the rain, but I'm on the coast, so it doesn't matter to me. I don't have a river to flood me, and I cannot believe the capital, Montpelier, had to close its downtown. And it's not just another Washington Post headline, the historic and deadly New England flood trap residents destroy roads. It's not just Vermont, although Vermont is the epicenter of what was this amazing flooding event. Meanwhile, it's set in California up on Palos Verdes Peninsula. I think that's where Harley lives, and they've lost a dozen homes into a canyon up there. That's just the after effect of the winter. For my new listeners in Montgomery County, New York, I spend the winter in California, the fall and the spring in the Beltway when the Congress is in session, and I come up north during the summer. And Studio North is where I am today. And all during the winter, all I did was complain about the fact that it was California. It just rained. It just rained and rained and rained. I came to Maine, and all it's doing is raining, raining, raining. But the weather is always interesting only to people who are living it particularly. I know it's like a heat wave across Phoenix. My friends in Phoenix are boiling. So it's a weird, say it's summer, this summer. We are also in the slow news season, right? So I just want you to understand between now and the first Republican debate hosted by Fox in Milwaukee in late August, there really won't be much news. There's some fundraising news today, but there won't be much real news.

North Korea notifies neighboring Japan it plans to launch satellite in coming days

"North Korea has notified neighboring Japan that it plans to launch a satellite in the coming days, experts claim Pyongyang is attempting to put its first military reconnaissance satellite into orbit. Japan's defense minister yasukazu amada says he's ordered the self defense force to shoot down the satellite if it enters Japanese territory. Japan's coast guard says it received a notice from North Korean authorities that the launch window was from May 31 until June 11 and the launch may affect waters in the yellow sea East China Sea and east of the Philippines, Luzon island. The coast guard has issued a safety warning for ships in the area due to the risk of falling debris. North Korea's satellite launch plan comes amid heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula. "Have an old friend back, but we've got an exciting subject to talk about. The friend is Tim Mahoney. You know him from the patterns of evidence, movies. There is a new one called patterns of evidence journey to Mount Sinai part two. It is a fathom event, may 15th, and I think may 17th, Tim Mahoney welcome. Hey, Eric, thank you for having me on the show. What is the, okay, so what is the thesis that we think we have figured out? Because I know this is a hugely controversial thing over the millennia practically. Where is Mount Sinai? So this film purports to have discovered the actual location, the actual Mount Sinai. This film started for me in 2002 when I thought we had a location, which was in Saudi Arabia. And I actually, in 2003, went there and was able to bring a camera and I started filming it. And it was amazing to see all these artifacts that were there. But what happened to me when I left the country, interestingly, on May 15th, 20 years ago, almost when I left the country, they kept my footage. And I didn't have a film. And for the last 20 years, I've been trying to make this film. And I was challenged that some people said, you know, you're not being really fair. There are other mountains that we think might be a better candidate. Why don't you slow down and look at them? And that's why this is a had been a two film investigation. I've looked at 6 different locations, starting in the Sinai Peninsula. And this next film, journey to Mount Sinai, part two is coming to theaters may 15th, as we said in 17th. This is going to be the crescendo of it all.

The old depot erupted in flames in Russia's southern krasnodar region, located east of the Russian held Crimean Peninsula, a regional governor, hasn't said what caused the fire, but some Russian media outlets say it was likely caused by a Ukrainian drone attack overnight, but there was no official comment on that possibility. The three nation training could trigger a belligerent response from the north, which condemns Washington's military drills with its Asian allies as invasion rehearsals the north has used the drills as a pretext to accelerate its own weapons development, creating a cycle of tit for that that has raised tensions in recent months, South Korea's navy says the drills take place in international waters off the country's eastern coast and focus on mastering the procedures for detecting, tracking and sharing information on incoming North Korean ballistic missiles. Milley: US has long way to go to build munitions stockpile

"The top U.S. Military officers is The Pentagon has a long way to go to beef puppet's munitions stockpiles and ensure the country is ready for any large scale war. I'm Ben Thomas with the latest joint chiefs chairman general Mark milley tells Congress the warring Ukraine has underscored the heavy use of munitions that's required during any major conflict. At a hearing of the House armed services committee, milley, and defense secretary Lloyd Austin, they repeated questions about the impact the war is having on The Pentagon, as it supplies Ukraine with much of the ammunition it needs to fend off Russian forces. They say the conflict has pushed the U.S. to increase production rates and reevaluate how much of a stockpile is really needed. Millie says war on the Korean Peninsula or a great power war between the U.S. and Russia or China would send consumption rates off the charts and these concerned. The Pentagon is requesting $30 million in the 2024 fiscal year budget to invest in the industrial base and to buy the maximum number of munitions that American industry can produce. Over the past 5 years because of diplomacy and efforts to create opportunities for diplomacy with North Korea, exercises were canceled or scaled down, and then of course there was the COVID pandemic. So after about 5 years, the exercises are returning to kind of normal status. South Korea convened a National Security Council meeting and strongly condemned the missile launch as a grave act of provocation threatening international peace. Stay tuned. This week's collision between that Russian fighter jet and a U.S. drone has escalated all the way to the top of both countries military. The collision and crash of this drone is created another tense situation between the U.S. and Russia. I just got off the phone with my Russian counterpart, minister shoyu. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. He didn't go into the details of their conversation, but he inferred that he made some things clear. One of which was in the United States will continue to fly and to operate wherever international law allows. In terms of what actually happened, joint chiefs chairman general Mark milley picked it up from there. We know that the aggressive behavior was intentional. We also know it was very unprofessional, very unsafe. But the actual contact between the planes. Not sure yet, that remains to be seen. And there is video to help with that. JJ green, WTO V news. That's a quick look at global news headlines, Paul All right, thanks very much, Doug. Let's get back to our guest for the half hour mark Franklin as managing director and senior portfolio manager at Manu life and democracy. I wanted to talk about energy prices. We did, of course, get the news. As expected, OPEC plus cutting supply by 2 million barrels per day, but coupled with that, we do have the strong dollar that we mentioned where we left off. So what are the implications here for emerging market economies? You have to spit the emerging market economies into those that are net produces an export of energy and those that are net importers of energy. Those that are net exporters will actually be quite comforted by the decision that OPEC plus took yesterday. And an increasingly tight physical market, whereas those emerging markets that are energy importers will concern themselves with what this means for a next round of inflation pressures should oil prices continue to rise in the near term. There's a bit more pressure on countries like Japan as well. I mean, ultimately, they have a release valve for that pressure via the currency. And they continue to adopt what appears to be a very, very loose monetary policy with their yield curve control. So the extent to which this drives further weakening of the yen against other cross currencies at a pace of their uncomfortable with in May force them to intervene more aggressively. The air cross the supply cuts, just going to stoke energy price inflation as well. We do have inflation all over the place right now. What is going to happen first? Do we get inflation under control or is there going to be a global recession? I think we have to define what under control means. I mean, ultimately, Central Bank inflation targets if you take the U.S., is a reversion towards a 2% inflation rate on the core PCE measure. It's going to take some time to get there. If you look at previous inflationary cycles, it takes several quarters rather than several months to get there. And that perhaps creates a sufficiently wide window for growth dynamics to come under increasing pressure. Now you've been playing a defense in your portfolio. What does that mean exactly? Do you look at havens? Do you look at bonds? How do you catch allocation right now? Yeah, cash allocations are relatively high, and we've had to accept that when you see central banks so aggressively withdrawal liquidity from financial markets. It affects all asset classes, not just those risk assets, but also those more defensive assets traditionally. And we've seen this year traditionally defensive assets such as fixed income have not proven defensive. So we've had to appraise the macro environment and we talked about an environment which is increasingly stagflationary. So which types of asset classes perform resiliently in an inflationary environment and energy is one example there. Not all commodities necessarily because, as you mentioned earlier, the U.S. dollar can pose somewhat of a headwind to other commodity asset classes. Yeah, it's been a while since we've heard somebody use the term stagflation here. You have serious concerns about global growth at the moment.
