"A fatal shooting at a barbershop on the south side, a gunman wearing all black clothing and a black ski mask entered the shop at 80th in holstead at around midnight and began opening fire. Three of them have had previous run ins with the police. COVID hospitalizations are increasing, but cases in Chicago are starting to ease, heading into winter break officials say there are ways to prevent your kids from catching the virus while away from school and bringing it back to class with them in the new year. "I think he meant it so much, and he cares so much at that moment. When he did that, and in some ways, it's hard to tell what trigger David so bad that David went out there and took the microphone didn't improvise anything. He just went out there and said what he felt in his heart. And I think that's the same way he used to play the game. When the moment called for it, he will really. That day and I think that will stand taller than any number that they would put up in the poll season during the regular season or any other moment here in Boston. Baseball Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez here on the rich eisen show. Who else from your championship seasons with Boston deserves to be in the hall with you guys now? What do you got me on that front? Pedro. Oh. Well, eventually we're going to have to see because I know some of those guys probably don't have the longevity to probably expect a Hall of Fame. But money, money has the numbers, but I just don't know because. How many times money was suspended for PED, but I have some guys around there with big numbers, but I just don't know that they have the time to actually earn a part in the whole thing or wait for money Ramirez numbers. What about pedroia? What about Dustin pedroia? Pedro. Borderline? I wish he was healthy for at least three more years. I don't know what specifically his numbers, but I know he put up some Hall of Fame numbers when he was playing. Now how long he did it for? It's yet to be seen, but I haven't really analyzed those numbers or gone deep into that. I know wakey had the long, long time, not time to be considered but I don't know if the numbers are there. What about Terry Francona, Pedro? He's been at this quite some time. What do you think about that? Not only Terry, but also Theo. Let's talk a little bit about the here and now right now Pedro. Let's start with the Red Sox. It seems that they don't want to pay Devers in the same manner that they didn't want to pay Mookie bets. Is that a fair assessment of reading the tea leaves of what Red Sox management is doing to set this team up for the long term? You know what? I'm involved with the team a lot. I haven't heard that either one has been mentioned. Okay. Whether they're going to let him go on or sign him or not sign him. I think the Red Sox are just waiting to see how everything involved and then see how they're going to make the decision for. I think guys like bogey JD endeavors are critical for the team, but at the same time, I think they need a little bit more time. Remember, Heinz was brought over to the Red Sox to dump some of the money that we had in salaries. And he did that effectively. Nothing Mookie was something that everybody was hurting for because we know what Mookie was and how much value he brought to the team. But at the same time, the gap between Mookie and the organization was so far apart that it seemed like there wasn't going to be a deal done because of the gap that was in between what Mookie wanted and what the team was able to give him at that moment, especially with our getting rid of some of the money. And it was unfortunate, but we had to let go of monkey. But these guys, I don't think are going to be around Mookie. To be honest, bogey, I don't know bug is a very valuable player. There is another very valuable player in Yong. And bogey is if you're going to say one word that describes boogers, is consistency. And I don't imagine either one in any other uniform. But the Red Sox, I hope they keep both of them and JD has been great now taking the options to stay in Boston. So I don't know what's going to happen, but I haven't heard that either one is going to be let go or it's going to be signed. So I guess we're going to be waiting to see what evolves out of this time that we're going through. If I had to ask you, Pedro Martin is going to do it anyway. You got to choose one picture to win a must win game in Major League Baseball today. Who is that pitcher today? Pedro. Today, I must gain right now right now. "This program, if you couldn't even get the sense that football's back, all you need to do is just watch the first two hours consume the first two hours of this program. It is just been a poppin. All day long and we still haven't heard from the league independent judge on deshaun Watson yet. I mean, the browns training camp is open. He's taken reps and we still haven't heard a thing yet. So I guess we'll all sit here and wait to know what the answer is. And we've been hearing conversations about full year suspension and no suspension I already said no suspension would be a disaster for everyone involved. And to me, I guess the most impactful, the most impactful suspension would be a half to three quarters of a season. Because the browns would then not be able to get a full season long answer if that's something that they were interested in. And that Watson would return at some point during the middle of the season, and that would not be or the end of the season, and that might not be as good for the browns if anything else, because he might be rusty, obviously I'll take a rusty deshaun Watson, I guess, over a backup any day of the week. I don't know. There is no answer to this question, except where is this where's the ruling? I can't believe that has yet to be decided. Meanwhile, you've got DK Metcalf situation unresolved, deebo Samuels situation unresolved. A lot of unresolved scenarios going on right here. Top story of the day is involving Kyler Murray and the revelation yesterday that there is a clause in his contract requiring him to study independently four hours a week of game day week. Which is nuts. That there is a situation where a team is willing to generationally enrich a quarterback while they don't trust him to be fully prepared for a game. On his own. I have never heard of something like that before. I do not know how that is going to work at self out this season. The only way that I think it will work itself out this season, and I hope this is the case for Arizona is a car. Kyler Murray hears this at some point you will be made available to the media and he will bristle. And he will be, I don't understand why it's in there. I am a fully involved quarterback in the NFL. I am fully involved in everything going on, and I will show it to you. And he will try and dominate the league this year because of it. I hope it has lit a fire. A great a lot of fun this week and reach had a great opportunity to see David feel proud, embraced the foundation once again and just how to announce standing time. And watching David was such a big smile and beautiful ceremony was just great. What made him so great Pedro from your front seat watching him work in arrive on the scene. I think David had an honora for big moment. I think David, I don't know if it was the things that he had to overcome. And his career and his life in general that made him so precise and so determined to get things done without fear. A lot of people will probably every once in a while have border flags in their stomach when the big moment shows up, but it seemed like David not only was able to raise his focus a little bit more in the most difficult situation, but as you saw it for the marathon bombings, he even shocked me. Someone that really knew him and thought I knew him, but something came out of David that really made him a stand out. And that was one of those moments that to me, you can compare it to one of the biggest moments in baseball or one of the most critical moments in baseball. And I never seem to have enough of David every time the big moment go for it. Yeah, I mean, any New York sports fan Pedro would say after the 9 11 bombing, Yankee or met fan, that Mike Piazza's home run in the first game back to beat the braves was remarkable. It was huge for the city. It was a huge moment to let everyone know that you can feel normal and be excited. And enjoyable again. But that was on the field, what David did was with his mouth and his persona and his essence and his spirit. What surprised you about that moment where he took to the microphone after the Boston Marathon bombing and said this is our effort city in Boston. You know what? David was authentically angry. You know when someone disrespects a teammate or someone or something is said the wrong way or something disrespectful happened, but it didn't really practice for what he was going to say. He just came out of him authentically. And you could see that he was angry. And whether they were the right words or the bleak that it threw out there,

"So regarding these requirements and we have those that distribute specifically understand how to work with families outside our state of California and focus on the different areas that they need to go ahead and help prepare themselves because like I mentioned, maybe your audience doesn't live in California. Your audience is on different locations in the U.S.. Some of these states don't require the same requirements as California does. And so some of the students would not be aware of those requirements. We take that into consideration. So we look at those items and we understand what state they're coming from and we try to help prepare them to meet all the requirements as easily as possible and ensure that they meet everything. And if it's something that we can quickly suggest, we encourage that. And many of our C issues also have other departments just like mine that have a specific branch focused on supporting students that want to look at our admissions process and can actually sit with the counselor or do a group presentation a better understand and ask questions to help them meet these requirements because they seem simplistic, but they sometimes get a little bit more complicated when now you start looking at your situation. And there's people here in this issue system in all 23 to help those students and families really understand those requirements. And I think that's the critical piece we walk away from not worried about what the requirements are because they're unique slightly within each campus, even though they're based in the same foundation, but really where do I get the support? How do I go get the answers to my questions and how do they help me go ahead and process these items every step of the way. And every student that we get, we walk through what we call the funnel in admissions. It's a funnel. They go from one stage to the next stage to the next stage. And as they go through it, they have new things that they have to either accomplish or do. You know, when you first submit an application, you've got to send in some documents for us to verify. As you go through that next stage, there is a stage of, okay, now I've been offered admission. I need to go ahead and actually get some other things done like get my scholarship application, get my other items in as far as any missing item that I need to finish any requirement for tuition. Any residency documents, anything like that. And so for each phase, these individuals that I talked about are present in each of our campus to help kind of migrate themselves through each of these phases and get to the point where when May comes around its decision time and they have to pick that one campus and if they selected us, they had they basically would have completed everything that they needed to do to prepare for themselves for registering for courses in the summer for the coming terms that they're coming into. Or if they're in spring, doing it in January. So the biggest pointer, like I said, that I would walk away from not really worried about the requirements. Really worried about making sure you get in front of people that can answer your questions. And that's the admissions counselors or the outreach teams that are available at each of our campuses. And that's great. And to speak to your point about my listeners, I think, for the show, I'm hoping that with a big draw like Pedro Martinez on the docket that I draw some California listeners, right? "Of Famer Pedro Martinez by his side I am going to start with lynching on this Yeah he's great He's one of the most popular figures in the history of Boston sports a big poppy David Ortiz first time eligible on the ballot We're surrounded by Pedro Martinez one of his daughters and his dad was sitting right next to him and that's where he wanted to be with his dad I was with David last week at a function in Boston and he said I'm going to be with my dad because my dad introduced me to the game of baseball and when I was in the Dominican my dad gave me some checklists He said try to make it to the United States Try to make a major league team try to be a starter Try to be in all star Try to win a World Series He says but my dad never said try to get into the Hall of Fame It was something I never ever thought about And he said this would really be something if I was in cooperstown with all these great heroes of the game and now he's there and he couldn't be happier and only one of the players that could into the Hall of Fame David Ortiz So that's a big story and who didn't get into the hall of it was probably his biggest story as well Yes Barry Bonds Roger Clemens easily some would argue the best hitter in the best picture in history is certainly during their era falling way short on their final attempt to be voted into the Hall of Fame The people who support the argument that even before the steroid era each of these players had Hall of Fame caliber numbers But it's notable that unlike David Ortiz who appeared to be universally loved in Boston is that fair to say lynchy Without question Okay Roger Clemens Barry Bonds Not necessarily universally well liked players or beloved players Well one thing to remember it takes 75% of the baseball writers association of America to say hey you're in Big poppy got almost 78% Barry Bonds on his tenth and final tribe by the baseball writers He got about 66% I believe and then everyone else fell after that And Sammy Sosa Oh my goodness he only got 18.5% and that's his last attempt at least going through the writers You know the writers are divided into two camps There was 397 writers who vote on this And broadcasters have never been allowed And that's one of the unfair It is Are you trying to tell me that Vin Scully doesn't know as much about the baseball game as any writer If Bob Costas doesn't know as much that Al Michaels doesn't know as much but that's the rules and that's the way it's been going for a long long time But there are some old school writers who a on principle alone never vote for anybody on their first ballot Willie Mays and Hank Aaron Yeah They don't get in And somebody that writers did not vote for them on their first first time that they were on the ballot Just strictly on principle which is absolutely ludicrous Yeah I can go on about what you said about big time announcers earning her well I can go on And I don't understand that Well they run the press boxes and they run and they run the Hall of Fame They do a very nice job with it But this is going to open up a lot of scrutiny Now there could be an avenue for bonds Clemens to get into the Hall of Fame There's a new era committee that's going to meet in December And it's comprised of members of the Hall of Fame former players and some writers and if you get 12 out of 16 votes in this December coming up it's December 22nd 11 months from now they could possibly get into the Hall of Fame So it's not a done deal for these two but they are no longer on they are no longer on the ballot Remember I said if the TV ratings this past weekend weren't sky high I was going to turn in my Rory Rogers membership card While I'm keeping it because this according to Nielsen the epic football playoff game especially between buffalo and Kansas City reach nearly 43 million TV viewers on Sunday That's the most for any event since last year's Super Bowl and the NFL just struck gold with just a great weekend all four of those divisional games It averaged 38.2 TV and digital viewers up 20% over last year and the best ever for the league's divisional round of playoffs according to the Nielsen company car I think that Kansas City buffalo game is the one that really takes the cake because in Kansas City that game got 90% share So that means 9 out of every ten TVs in the Kansas City market that were on during that time We're watching that game And you know they watched every minute of it because that game was a nail biter Oh yeah That bill's chiefs game In fact when it got down into overtime there was 51.7 million people watching that It was absolutely spectacular And this is going to have a fall over effect of this weekend with the championship games on Sunday at 3 o'clock for the AFC and 6 40 for the NFC game People are going to say wow that weekend was good How can they possibly top it this weekend So people are going to be tuning in and of course as we get down to the Super Bowl that's when the audience.
