"AP's 40 time Josh roundtree, we started the NBA where Denver rally back for a win, more from correspondent Bruce Morton. The nuggets overcame a slow start and defeated New Orleans one 22 one 13. For the injury riddled pelicans, this was the 9th consecutive game in which their wings were clipped. The Western Conference leaders were down by as many as 12 before pulling to within 60 57 at the break. Denver went on an 8 to two run to start the second half and remained in control. Jamal Murray was game high with 32. Elsewhere, the heat snuck by the calves 197, LeBron James had his first triple double of the season scoring 28 points with ten rebounds and 11 assists as the Lakers topped the Knicks in OT one 29 one 23. In college basketball, a top ten showdown in the big 12, 8th ranked Kansas got 20 points and 8 boards from jaylen Wilson in a 90 78 win over 7th ranked Kansas state. Marilyn knocked off 21st ranked Indiana, 66, 55. On the ice Carolina allowed four second period goals, but came back to beat the king's 5 four and OT. Sebastian aho scored the winner to complete the rally. It wasn't like panic motor or anything like that. We talked about when we get one power play before we write back in it and we got the first goal on 5 O 5, which helped. In Columbus evgeny kuznetsov scored early in OT to lift Washington over the blue jackets four three. Trevor van riemsdyk scored twice in the win. We talked before the game about how important these two points were just going in the break, feeling good, a little bit of positive vibes for when we come back and have this home stretch. In the NFL, the Houston Texans have found their next coach, hiring former Houston player and forty-niners defensive coordinator, D'amico ryans to the top job. And according to multiple sources, the Broncos have agreed to trade a first round pick in 2023 and a second round pick in 2024 to New Orleans for former saints head coach Sean Payton making him Denver's 19th head coach in franchise history. "Just saying, we're here. All right, let's take some calls while we're in the waiting in the zoom waiting room. They don't give you your music. You know what I mean? Like a magazine that you just get magazine. Do you know what I mean? And you stare at the screen, you stare at the screen and you're like, do they know what? Do they know I'm there? They're just staring. You bring the doorbell again. But shouldn't you be able to do that? That's what my kids, when they're, you know, when they're home and Sue's is still in the car and so she's got the key and the kids just keep ringing the doorbell. And then you just want to open the door and say, we don't want any. What do you want? Says father of the year. Oh, this guy is no doubt a proud papa as well. We saw Gary Payton the second get a community service award last night, and we hope to see him back on the court in these NBA Finals pro basketball Hall of Famer here courtesy of Hennessy is the great Gary Payton or on the Mercedes Benz van phone line. I am mandated to start this interview as Stuart Scott always used to refer to him GP, are you with me? How you guys doing? How are you, Gary Payton? That was always Stewart's line for you whenever I was doing where it's sitting next to him and he was doing your highlights. GPR, you with me. That's what you always say. Yeah, that was my guy, man. I used to enjoy him very much, you know? So, you know, he may, you know, he got that from Frank Frank Kirkland. I mean, you know, was the same Kirk frankel? Frank. Frankly, yeah. So he got there for me, so that was a good line to bring it up. You know, he was always good at making some stuff up and making it stick. He always did, I know that and he loved your game too. Most of America. So let's get into it, Gary Payton. What did you think of game one of the NBA Finals last night and what the Celtics were able to pull off in that fourth quarter? Well, the bad fourth quarter by the go say worse. They give them 40 points in that thing, no defense, a lot of turnovers and it was just faster. They gave up a game. They gave they gave up a game. So I think they're going to have to go in and get an adjustment of what they're going to do. Golden State has been doing that all year of turning the basketball over. And in these finals, we can turn a box about over possessions, especially if a team deal with Boston did. They made shots. They made big shots all the way down smart, white, and even Hartford. They all made big shots and then brown penetrating and doing the things he didn't make in shots and when you have your star and Tatum's struggling and the other guy step up and the other team is turning the ball over and you know and then they're scoring. That is just a big that's just a disaster and Golden State got that and that fourth quarter and it got him along. Well, I mean, the sound bite that's kind of stuck, certainly it resonated with us on this show. We played it about ten minutes ago in our opening segment is draymond green reading off the stat sheet of Derek white and jaylen Brown and Al Horford saying they went 15 to 23 from three and basically said odds are they're not going to do that again. So we'll be fine. Do you agree with that? Approach? Gary? Well, that's a good that's dream on green. He's doing his thing. We don't know. We can't predict what's going to happen in next game. But what they did was, they made shots this guy. So if they're on fire and they're making shots, or he's going to have to do something.
Tucker Carlson: The Truth About Payton Gendron's Letter
"I want you to hear Tucker, because it must be a weird place to sort of be in the crosshairs like this. Of the viciousness of the left and the attacks, can you imagine what it must be, what it must feel like to be blamed for a mass shooting like this, here's what Tucker said. Gendron left in a 180 page letter that he said would explain his motives. You've probably heard this document described as a racist manifesto. But that's not quite right. It's definitely racist, bitterly so. Gendron reduces people to their skin color. That's the essence of racism and it's immoral. But what he wrote does not add up to a manifesto. It is not a blueprint for a new extremist political movement, much less the potential inspiration for a racist revolution. Anyone who claims that it is, is lying, or hasn't read it. Instead, gendron's letter is a rambling pastiche of slogans and Internet memes, some of which flatly contradict one another. The document is not recognizably left wing or right wing. It's not really political at all. The document is crazy. It's the product of a diseased and organized mind. At one point, gender suggests that Fox News is part of some global conspiracy against him. He writes like the mental patient he is, disjointed, irrational, paranoid. Now that's true, not that it makes the atrocities he committed easier to bear. If your daughter was murdered on Saturday in Buffalo, you wouldn't care why the killer did it or who he voted for. But the truth about Peyton gendron does tell you a lot about the ruthlessness and dishonesty of our political leadership. Within minutes of Saturday's shooting before all of the bodies of those ten murdered Americans had even been identified by their loved ones. Professional Democrats had begun a coordinated campaign to blame those murders on their political

"I mean, it was 9 straight years of you know what we should do to get rid of this Todd Bowles guide. Get a Bill cowher, you know? It's good for him. But yeah, outside of Bill cowher, I don't remember, like when Joe Gibbs came back, I don't know. Yeah. I mean, that's easy the only person I can think of, you know? Now he's a Sean Payton's going to, boy, what a feeling he's going to be for him when he starts shopping around for job next year. It's going to be fun. All right, we have actual football this weekend. Congress championship games, we are going to go let's go in regular chronological order because we usually go in reverse chronic logical order. And I feel like this is, I don't know, just respecting the way that time moves forward when it's all said and done. So we're going to start with the AFC game Bengals and chiefs, obviously, over in arrowhead, a rematch of their matchup earlier this year. We'll start with a Bengals offense against the chiefs defense because if you go back their first matchup, obviously Joe burrow sort of had his way with his chief secondary. We will see what time Matthews situation ends up being because that was not a very good performance after he went down last week for the chief. So you have that going on, you also have a game last week where the Bengals offense did not function at the kind of level where you'd want it to function in a game like this. So I don't know if the chiefs necessarily can find more answers. I didn't think they necessarily had an issue getting to Joe burrow last time, just it was kind of that. It's that thing where it's like job knows his right side of the line can't block. And he's ready for it. And he ducks and he escapes. And then they do it that way. Yeah, again, I just don't know how often you can continue to live that way. I mean, 9 sacks after a season high 59 sacks and we seem to forget because he's a spectacular player that I mean he tore his ACL PCL and what MCL last year and so again I mean, yes, it's recovered. It's healed. He's been traditionally a quick healer in a strong guy, but, you know, at some point, you know, this is going to it's just going to come back to bite you. And I don't know what they're going to do because, you know, they stayed in 11 personnel, right against the Titans. They didn't bring a lot of guys into help. I don't know if they have the guys to help. And I don't know who on that interior is going to all of a sudden learn how to win matchups. Because that's the problem. It's like, you know, defenses can kind of isolate one or two guys and they can put your best guy in your worst guy and can win with regularity. So what do you do in that situation? I don't know. Zach Taylor didn't really transition to the quick game. Against the Titans, didn't need to, because Joe burrows fantastic, but I don't know if you come in this week. More hell bent on doing that, you know? Yeah, it just kind of ends up being like, well, we didn't protect them all year, so. Why is it going to be different now? And he will just he'll figure it out when it's all set into. You good back there? Yeah. Yup. So you have that. And if you go back to that first matchup to march, chase was just completely unguardable in that game..

"What I'm saying? Really important. All right, guys, we got more coming on these games. He's aggressive all the time. We're also gonna get back to our top story of the day, Sean Payton announcing that he's stepping away. Here's what he said, I don't know what's next and it kind of feels good. He said he Googled last night how to not try during a press conference. I don't know. What did Google tell you there? That would be crying that much yet. Either way, we'll tell you what Peyton continues to say and we're going to talk about Tom Brady. Someone here thinks he's stepping away too. We'll be right back. Well, if you're with us on NFL live, it feels odd to say, but no Tom Brady in the postseason after the rams and Matt Stafford went the last second in Tampa. So now the questions about Brady's future the 44 year old still mulling his decision about returning or retiring. But here's what he said on his podcast about his thought process. I think the point is, there's no really rush for me to figure out what's next. You know, all know what I know. My wife is my biggest supporter. It pains her to see me get hit out there. And, you know, she deserves what she needs from me as a husband and my kids deserve what they need for me as a dad. It's not always what I want. It's what we want as a family. And you know, I'm going to spend a lot of time with them and figure out in the future. What's next? I don't know, kind of sounds like somebody who might be done or kiss you really think Brady could be retiring. I feel like he is. I feel like he is, but Tom Brady makes liars out of us all. We all know that. But ultimately, I think he's in that place that a lot of guys get to. Now, his situation is different because he been playing the NFL for 22 years. But I tell the story all the time. I started playing football at 6 years old. And I retired when I was 32. I knew every year what I was going to be doing. From that time all the way until I left the NFL. So, you know, for a lot of guys and you were here, I'm talking about it's not as simple as saying I'm retiring. You trying to figure out what am I going to do to feel this time that's going to be valuable, as opposed to just saying I'm doing something. So I just feel like he's figuring out what that he is, but I think he's gone. Bottom line, football was the only job I ever wanted. And it seems like it was the same thing for Tom Brady. And it comes for us all. I remember sitting on the sofa, the sofa in November and my done. And I knew that because every Saturday when the barber came over and I had to get a haircut, I had to send Jordan down first because it was going to take me too long to get down. You know, Monday through Saturday retires people. It's never really Sunday. It's about off season. Am I willing to do what it takes to be what I've always done? And also remember that the next year Jordan was going to be in the 9th grade. And I said, I would not miss one of my son's football games ever. And I said, I wanted my parents to be able to see him come. And you heard Tom Brady say it's about what we need. It's about what we have to do. And your wife is your biggest supporter. And your kids love to see you do what you want to do. But you just daddy, right? You just Tom. You just Ryan and eventually that pool begins to be more than the pool of winning championships. And it was why it's going to be hard for Tom Brady is. At that point, I couldn't be the best I ever was. Tom Brady is still playing at such a high level. It's going to be hard to say don't do it. That's why this is so hard to predict because, yes, we just saw him lost. But we also just saw him make a throw to Mike Evans that perfect. Certainly no one else in their 40s can make, but very few quarterbacks in the NFL can perform at the level that Tom Brady did this season. By the way, we also just saw him endure a level of pressure that he is not accustomed to in Tampa Bay because the injuries on that offensive line. So as we look to next year and ask hey, why would he come back? I think something that's important to remember is this was the nightmare scenario for Tom Brady. Yeah, the worst case. Find that offensive line. That's not going to be the situation interest in where we'll come back. Also, other one thing out with Sean Payton, you're going to win the division. So he's got another saying, go there. Yeah, well, you know. Oh, wow, wow. Listen, I think that you say Monday through Saturday retires you. I think change does as well. And I think there's going to be a lot of change, but at least potentially in Tampa Bay. We know that Byron left is getting interviewed for multiple head coaching situations. We know Todd Bowles is, as well, I also think that offensive roster that he played with in the game this past Sunday is more like what he could potentially play with next year than it is from last season. Like their agents are Chris Godwin. Yes. JPP. Brian Jensen, Sue, Gronk, OJ Howard, Alex Kappa. Those are huge. I know money moved around all that stuff. I know. But there's also the reality of, man, do I want to play around a team that doesn't look like what it did two years ago? It's incredible though. So what the roster looks like depends on whether Brady comes back, whether they go into re well they won't rebuild, but how much they try to run it back and try to say not rebuild reload. You gotta think, if Brady's done, Gronk. You got me. That is, that's the new construction. Because of Tom Brady, absolutely. So he is the catalyst for all that. What we will get back to our top story of the day with the Sean Payton stepping away. Here's another quote from him. He said, we're not writing an obituary today. It's a step. It's another direction. He's still speaking now at the podium. We'll hear from him on the other side and we'll be right back here on NFL live. Keep it locked right here. Do you own or rent your home? Sure you do. That's Geico dot com. Breaking news today on NFL live, Sean Payton announcing he is stepping away from the New Orleans Saints and future is a little bit uncertain. He's been at the podium now for over an hour and he's still going. Well, let you listen in on some of the things that he said earlier on as this press conference begin. Honestly, as I sit here today, and this is okay, I don't know what's next. And look, I've read the reports, and I understand, I've not spoken to anyone from a media outlet relative to doing television or radio, maybe that opportunity arises, but every time I read something that says, he's in line for this job. I'll call my agent Don and I'll say Don, did you hear something because I have not heard anything? And that's okay. I think I'd like to do that. I think it would be pretty good at it. I still have a vision for doing things in football. And I'll be honest with you, that might be coaching again. At some point, I don't think it's this year. I think maybe in the future, but that's not where my heart is right now. It's not at all. Again, Sean Payton still speaking. Let's get a quick reads brought to you by discover as we bring Diana russini back in here. And Diana, you said that Sean Payton not expecting to coach in 2022, but.

"He's considered every career in the book. He tends to hit a wall when a lot of stuff starts to pile up on him. And I think this past season, he really hit the biggest wall of all. Obviously trying to replace Drew Brees after he retired. We saw four different quarterbacks at that starting position. They dealt with all different injuries. He had COVID twice. They had a relocate to Texas for a whole entire month because of a hurricane situation there. So this season was simply exhausting, which is the way he described it. And this isn't complaining at all. This wasn't a head coach going, look at all my problems. Every coach has problems. Every organization is imperfect. They have their flaws. But for the bigger picture for him for his life, this is something that he wasn't just thinking about this season last season. This goes back three, four years where he was really trying to navigate even try to manage what is next for him. Because there were times where he thought there was nothing else he could give to the city of New Orleans that the coaching that he had put out was the best he could do. And I do think that there is an organization out there that comes or at least has ownership that he would be looking for. And this is nothing against what ownership in New Orleans has done because you saw what he said. And you could see that personal relationship that he has with Gail Benson, they are as close as any head coach and owner, their interactions that I have observed myself in the tunnel on the field, even from talking to both of them over the years. They truly have a healthy, healthy relationship and support each other's decision in both their personal life and careers. But I think for Sean Payton, I think the dream for him is to work for an organization where he has full control like he died, like he just did in New Orleans for the last 15 years, but for an owner, like a type, like an Al Davis that we once saw a Jerry Jones. This does not mean he's had conversations with these teams, but I think for him, if he's going to go back to football, it needs to be for an owner like that. We know how frustrated he got over the last few seasons, specifically in the playoffs with the no calls. I truly believe he thinks if he's part of a place, a team, a club that has a little bit more juice, things could go their way. And I think this plays into some of what the future for Sean Payton will be. But I do know he is open to anything as he pretty much put it out there in terms of the media and who knows what other career. But for now, football coaching is not done for Sean Payton. All right, that's great to hear. I think a lot of us want to see him coach again whenever the time comes. He can make that decision. John Payton is still speaking right now. Thanks to Diana for all of that context, you can see him there. Continuing that press conference announcing that he's stepping away from the New Orleans Saints coming up next will stay on this story, but we will get into the incredible games coming up this weekend and also still reflecting on last weekend's great games too. We'll be right back on an info live. We're back on NFL live. And back to the incredible weekend of football and divisional round. Los Angeles Rams had a walk off win over Tom Brady in the bucks in Tampa Bay. Thanks this incredible play. They call it love of the game and to be honest, we see why. It kind of made me love the game even more and I actually picked the bucks. All right, Cooper Cup, who is that one there, caught both of his targets thrown 30 plus yards downfield Sunday, a 70 yard touchdown that traveled 38 air yards in a 44 yard catch that was 38 7 air yards cup is caught 9 of 11 passes through 30 plus yards downfield this season, including the playoffs. That's the most catchy in the highest catch rate in the NFL, of course, but either way, Marcus, you've had concerns all season about Stafford and interceptions. You haven't even going into that game. How do you think he's played, though, in his two playoff starts with the ram? He's been phenomenal. And it's because of his coach. Like, they've done a tremendous job of opening up this offense and not putting it all on Matthew Stafford. And it's just a couple of examples from the Tampa game that just gives them easy access. Like, y'all know I scream, run the football, but these type of concepts given the defense these type of looks helps Matthew Stafford down the road. Look, screen the Sony Michelle. I know this play didn't go anywhere, but that's another key in the defense's mind. And then when you do those things, you get one O ones. And that is where Matthew Stafford will absolutely destroy you. When he finds those matchups that his guys are going to win, more than likely, he is going to find them every single time. But I think Sean mcvay has done a tremendous job of taking some of that pressure off of him and allowing him to kind of get a feel for the game, as opposed to, hey, go ahead and throw for 400. You know, so it's been love is the early effort to get Odell Beckham junior involved. Right, early on in the game. When he has those one on one to match ups, they try to get him a football. And then if you've seen it goes a couple of series without him having a catch, still just throwing my hitch into off coverage. Make sure you continue to stay involved and also understanding that if he does get the one on one matchup, this is a guy that we want to use. And so I feel like Sean mcvay, especially in the two playoff games, has really been conscious that number three still is the most talented wide receiver on that team with the most juice and that early on in one on ones you get him involved opens up Cooper Cup later and Cooper Cup absolutely destroys people. For cup is phenomenal, right? But the fact that Odell has come and proven to be a viable trusted and reliable number two. Yeah. I'm not saying you know what I'm saying like that too. It is a huge this week because remember, his first game was against the San Francisco 49. A two that could also be a one in a lot of times. What a luxury. And Mina is good as the rams offense has been, especially in recent weeks. There is cause for concern for you as you head into conference championship. God Lee. Witness when it's grim? Beat a groom Reaper? Oh my God. I hate this. I tried to dress like one today. I love it. Look, they almost blew it. I mean, I know we're all right in this rams high, but they came very close to having very difficult conversations. And yeah, it was the fumbles played a large role in that. But something else that was immensely frustrating to me watching this offense in the second half was the conservativism and Marcus. I hear you on the balance early on. Balance is what makes this offense. Go. However, after Cooper cut fumbled in this game and then the buck scored and they were up 27 Sean mcvay called a run on 6 first downs and one pass that's a 6 to one run to pass ratio. I feel like do you think it was a fumble that just scared him out of it though? Well, they went to Michelle away from acres. So it wasn't that, but I really think they were he was concerned about just, you know, keeping possession, but you want to get against Tampa. And the other thing is, for me, I got one. I was a frustrated that they let their foot off the gas pedal. But I also flashed back to week 18. 18. When they were up that's the only reason forty-niners are in front run run, gave them the score. Stay aggressive till February. And they're gonna have to do that in the next few years..

"To figure out who knew the words and then when we drafted Reggie Bush we sold out and I'm like, thank God we don't have to go on those like those freaking ticket ticket bandwagon drives. We've been sold out ever since. Mickey Loomis. A dear friend, I would say, more importantly, a friend just as importantly, my general manager and just as importantly the person that gave me this opportunity. He took a chance on a first time head coach and you guys know kind of the batting average and the challenges for these positions. They're hard. Every year we're reminded of that. And I've written about this. I've spoken about it and look, I had just interviewed in Green Bay with the late Ted Thompson. Man, I thought I had a great interview. And when I landed here, it was right after Katrina in January and many of you remember that. And I just thought when I met Mickey, I thought, man, I like this guy. He's got he's got a heck of a task ahead of him. And I kept looking at my flip phone at the time, waiting for that Green Bay Area, code to come in. And I got the message that evening that they had gone into different direction. And I remember just throwing the phone into the pillow and thinking holy cow. And it was the best thing that happened. Sometimes, again, you don't have any control over that. And so he. Trusted his gut. And beyond just hiring me, I can't think what we've had disagreements multiple times and yet we've always been in concert. And so like one of my biggest. Not concerns, but one of my biggest second thoughts was man. I don't want to not be around this really, really good friend of mine. And so, God, this and so that's not going to happen. I'm actually moving into another property here locally, but more than my general manager, more than the person that hired me more than all of those things is I would say one of my best Friends. And I appreciate that. I appreciate that. I mean, I could give you a thousand stories that would be interesting because our personalities are so different. Like he walks slow. It bothers me. I want him to pick it up. When you make a decision like this, you spend time with your loved ones. You spend time with your family. I've got a daughter who's out west in media, trying to become what many of you are and a son who's in college. A wife skyline who we've been together for many years, ten years, and got married last June. And I've confided in those guys quite a bit and talked about these decisions quite a bit. And I appreciate them. And they've been extremely just good listeners because ultimately, we all want happiness for our Friends. We want happiness and health for our friends and family. Those are the two things I think about, maybe as I've grown older, if your children are happy and healthy, then you're blessed, I think. And so I feel like there's been a very steady listening group here and yeah without any without any angle relative to, hey, what is it that you're looking for? Because honestly, as I sit here today, and this is okay, I don't know what's next. And look, I've read the reports and I understand I'm not spoken to anyone from a media outlet relative to doing television or radio. Maybe that opportunity arises, but every time I read something that says, he's in line for this job. I'll call my agent, Don, and I'll say, Don, did you hear something? 'cause I have not heard anything. And that's okay. I think I'd like to do that. I think it'd be pretty good at it. But. So Stephen stepping outside like in the cold weather today and being a little uncomfortable, professionally or from a career standpoint is okay. I don't like the word retirement, mister B didn't like it either. He always said, you know, retirement's overrated. We get sold this whole image of retirement by these investment groups on TV and golf courses and retirement and so yeah. Well as you can tell, we lost audio there on Sean Payton's press conference announcing that he's stepping away from the New Orleans Saints. We'll get you more information as he continues to speak. Let's bring in Adam Schefter here. As we remind you that Sean Payton and the saints combination was the highest scoring coach coach team duo in NFL history. What else can you add Adam to what you already heard there from Peyton? Well, a few things here to keep him on. He talked about the fact that he got turned down for the job in Green Bay. That's a job that went to Mike McCarthy at the time. And Mike McCarthy is in Dallas and a lot of people wondering if Sean Payton is going to wind up coaching the Dallas Cowboys. No he's not, not this season. That's not happening. That's not on the table. That's not an option. Sean Payton is going to take some time to unwind to your process. He very well could come back to coaching next year after taking this season off, but right now it doesn't look like it's in the cards for Sean Payton to coach this season. Could he be in television? That's certainly possible. But this is a decision that Sean Payton came to over recent weeks. He's known about this for quite some time. He took some time in Mexico, the last couple of weeks to play golf, unwind, relax, make sure that he was making the right decision, came in today, started meeting with the saint staff last night, met with them again today and then held a meeting a short time ago where he informed all of them about his decisions, both them for 35 minutes and told them as he just said that he doesn't know what's next, but he's going to be open to anything, but he's not going to be coaching this year in all probability. That's hard to imagine, despite the fact that there are now 9 head coaching vacancies across the National Football League. Sean Payton is not the likely guy to fill in one of them. And the saints now find themselves as the most recent team that looks to have a head coach you need. And Dennis Allen has been the interim replacement for Sean Payton before. He figures to be the favorite now, but there's a process that this team has to go through will go through and we've seen many times a team have a leader in the Clubhouse going into a search only to wind up on a different candidate and we'll see what the scenes do, but then it's Alan certainly will be one of the favorites for this job as the saints move forward. Sean Payton doesn't know what's next. He'll see what's in his future. The saints will see what's in their future, but this is the end of an era in New Orleans because Sean Payton took over this team at a time where nobody wanted to go to New Orleans. Where did he just been through Hurricane Katrina, where that was really the last place that anybody around the league would want to go? And he turned it into one of the marquee NFL franchises. And I think that when he stands up with that podium in a way, he's auditioning for a future job because there might be some NFL owner today that sees what Sean Payton is saying and says, that's a guy that when he's ready, I want him to coach my team. I also will say this, Laura,.

"Breaking news as we begin NFL live, Sean Payton has made a decision to step away as head coach of the New Orleans Saints. You see him sitting down for a press conference right now. We'll take you there. Right now, we'll hear from Adam chef on the other side. Last night thinking like how do you do this with COVID and. How do you how do you leave? How do you step aside and I'm not a good writer, and I'm thinking, you know what? And Doug no offense, but man, the zoom angle on my face for the last two years is driven me crazy. So I don't want that to be like a lasting indelible impression on anyone. And fortunately, I think we managed to come up with a good setup here. Just with the space and everything that we've been through, we collectively, all of us with COVID and managing to go about our business. Last week, I had a great visit a tough visit with Mickey Loomis and misses Benson and Dennis lausa relative to just looking ahead. With what I want to do and. Mickey and I are now we're 16 years and so I think that was challenging just because of our friendship more than our professional relationship and then misses B was awesome. I love this about her. She said, well, go away for two or three months and come back in training camp and we'll be ready to go and I thought that sounded pretty good, actually. But I'm glad that she told me to spend some time away and give this some thought because it is a big decision and it certainly affects a lot of people. It's not often you as a coach have that opportunity to possibly leave and it was something that certainly I hadn't really thought about over the years we coach. We coach. We coach and at some point, they tell you to leave. And it's difficult as being fired is it sure seems easier to thank everyone and move on your merry way, but. I'll try to I'll try to hit everything and I'm gonna ask or answer every question until you guys are done answering. So I'm sorry if this takes a while, but yeah, we're not in any hurry. So I like watching Netflix. I like watching TV shows. I think you guys do as well. And it's Mardi Gras season and I'm a kind of a Ted Lasso fan. And I do have a regret. 15 seasons, 16 years here and I've got like the best female owner in the world of sports and we don't do biscuits here in New Orleans, but we do king cakes. So where's misses B? I also have like a hundred of them for the media and everyone else that's here. To kind of celebrate the Mardi Gras season. I want to start and bounce around here, but I want to start with a series of thank yous, it's important. And so thank you, misses Benson for man for being no better. There could be no better owner for me to have worked for starting with your late husband, mister B Tom Benson. When I was sitting around last night thinking about how I wanted this to unfold. I Google search breeze and it's like, I hate following breeze. And he brought up some of the same stories, mister B was always one of those guys that for every meeting I had with him, it was never football related. It was always about something other than football. And he had a dish at tootsie rolls and Hershey kisses that go in there. We talk about family. We talk about anything other than the saints and I miss him and realize the time and the time being of me coming here back in 2006 was perfect. And obviously us having some early success worked out. But I wish he was here in misses B you've been fantastic. Carrying on everything about his legacy and I know he would be extremely proud and is extremely proud. So he's not here right now, but he is. And so I think the two of you for being for being great owners. And I mean that beyond just being owners, I thought about this, I can't think of one time the answer was no. Now it might be like, oh, we're trying to do something and we don't have enough time to remodel and so it might have been time driven, but the answer was never know. And look, that's easy when Mickey has the credit card, and I've got the wish list. I'd like to thank Dennis Laos, our president and a good friend for. People talk about culture and what's the secret teams right now, 8 teams, 9 teams, they're all searching for the right culture. Everyone wants to know how and it's very difficult and yet if I was writing a book, I'd say it's also very simple. The alignment of ownership, your club president, your general manager, your head coach, right through your roster, that sounds easy. But like any relationship they require work, right? I mean, it requires time and energy. It requires a similar similar goal. It requires us all to kind of like lay down our arms and our egos for the best of the team. And if we ask that of our players, then certainly we have to ask that of our organization. So sometimes I was fortunate at a young age to really be around some special coaches, my high school coach, man, my college coach, and then in this league, you sometimes get jobs and it's coincidence, sometimes it's good fortune, sometimes it's not good fortune. But those roots for me or those bloodlines for me as I look back on it were extremely extremely important and I just met with our staff and I told our young coaches and have your feet grounded in the job you have and these things get these things that you want very fast will happen, but they may not happen in the timing that you want them. But the point I'm making about Dennis is it's like it's like a good baseball team right up the middle from the catcher to the pitcher to the infield of the outfield..

The Zach Wilson Era Is off to a Disastrous Start
"So let's talk about zack wilson. Because you mentioned him and watching him lose twenty five to six at home to the patriots and bill ballot check and bill. Bella check destroys rookie. Quarterback's he consumes them. He picks their bones. That's all stuff that we know already cleans. His teeth with the bones of rookie quarterback is what he does but we saw jets fans alex. You know throwing in the towel and it's week two. And i say that because they were literally throwing souvenir tales from the stands. And zach wilson. The four picks. I'm curious about climbing into your memory bank here because what do you. Alex smith remember about playing the colts back in two thousand and five pablo. I've definitely tried to forget this one all right but we're good. I do remember my first career. Start the number one defense at the time and like the colts were in their heyday. Payton was rolling. But that defenseman dwight free robert matt Bob sanders. i mean it was. It was a joke and yeah. It's all a terrible blur for me. Like four picks i think my rating was it like it was a disaster but i think that was a clear design i was i just turned twenty one. I mean i played only two years in college in a spread system now trying to plan their center. Probably this become this pro quarterback whatever that is and It was not good. I was definitely i. I felt unprepared. And it was a disaster and it showed. You've been a guy who had a four interception game really early after being a top. Pick your the number one overall pick of course. What do you counsel him. Hypothetically what do you stay to him after a game like this if you were to visit him. Alex smith kind of like a ghost of christmas future. What do you. What do you tell a kid who's very talented but also just had a day like this. I think exactly that. I mean i think you gotta go like for me. I just go to the third and fourth picks that he grew and pause before the snap and look look like jack. It's ten to three on this one. It's in the third quarter we got. There's a ton of football left. There's no reason to throw this ball up The way he did and then even the second one in the fourth grade. I mean i think it was thirteen to three. At that point. There is still time. Left like again I think going back to just doing your

"He was the you remember. He started that dapper day. He said well you guys gotta understand. We got dapper. Dan found in northwestern working. You guys don't know nothing. It's gary payton from oregon state so these start talking about me and then things star rolling is starr roland. you know. we played Steve smith mrs a beat them in in in a christmas tournament on christmas tournament in portland everybody starts sending a hat like thirty eight in the game and everybody starts saying wool. We then we went down and beat tennessee with alan houston at forty two and then came right back and lost some memphis with perry elliott appear here when i had forty eight hundred. I was getting down. I went on a trip. And i've averaged almost the average about fifty years. So everybody start talking about me so then it just took off and then we win. The pact team won the pantene got a year in apac and everything started coming consensus first team all america. We had everybody on here. We started going to the playboy. Hang on or something that was there you go. How's the game. Do all the everything store trickling for me. And then all of a sudden seattle start giving a lot of interest and it was talk. My father talking about bernie bickerstaff was the headman. So i think they tanked Because there was a good team went forty one and forty one and made it to the to the to to to the balls. They made it to the lottery. And then all of a sudden they so happened lucked up and got the number and had already told me that it was going to draft me here so everything was falling into and it was doing things and and it. It just worked out because you can't. You came into a team like a veteran team. Yes yes and you don't usually do and you know the number two pick you do that. That kind of helped that. That kinda happened for me. Like i went to a veteran team so we was already like a playoff team. When i left you went in like you went in and it was like what was what was the first year in the nba. Because that was like as a young point guard be likes. Man you right right and that was that was different beady and i think it was different because you because you had a different coach. I casey jones who was always used to larry bird. Yeah mikhail now. He does his use of the veterans coming in there and winning championships for. He didn't know how to deal with me and shy kim right but we weren't too. We weren't good in our first two years until george cain joy carl came so he didn't know how to deal with us. You know what i'm saying. So everybody was talking about trading us yet on a test of and we see we. This is not our basketball. Then you know tim. Coast guard came in coast guard. Came in and then what you think we change whole program. Yeah we start doing different things and it was a beautiful thing for us and then all of a sudden that next year i made china doll store then. We went to the western conference. Finals played against phoenix. I got nicknamed the globe. Nickname cousin glenn. My cousin gave the thing just called me out the blue game He'll kevin about fourteen years after twenty. Seven johnson was coming out of time. So you see all the nfl time. Yeah and we were. We were rolling. You know what i'm saying. You know it started off and then everything just start twiddling their winning a lot of stuff to the all star game. Yeah nine times really teen because we had a. We had lockout year zone. That don't that you locked out so it was kind cool. You know what time it is. You know this show wouldn't be wearing one far sponsors. Let them have it. Why is it that the oldest child grows up with strict rules but the younger one gets away with everything. "Crazy like i'll be playing shows and i'll have people come and to me man. This is the first show. I've been to in over a year like this is so awesome and it's crazy things i'm like you haven't been out and over a year. What is this crazy different places. You go the places Are handling it differently. Just in different states my wife and i just for christmas time right before christmas. We went to nashville. I'd been a few times. I had been a few times for working. She had never been. And you know. We are in full lockdown mode at that point in california and we go there and like broadway's open and you know there's live bands playing in ten o'clock in the morning on on broadway and you're like i guess we can go have fun now and we hadn't seen live music and ten months so yeah it's the same way. It really is every state you go to handling. Everything i mean must differently than the state right next to it which is a good and i think it's a good thing honestly i will say because Just being able to travel for much during this time and you know you kind of all waiting to see like okay like what is this state during how are we. Are we handling this. Yeah that's going to be a real hard thing for tour managers. Like how do they set that up. You know it's like you gotta learn true. That's that's a whole different level. I guess but yeah. I think that's something that kind of depend on the venue and depend on You know kind of what they're willing to do until i got but then again. I think that's not a huge issue. Considering if people are going to pay money to attend to show you know. I think they kinda. They're kinda choosing the gun do that so i and i think that's my opinion what i know. The foo fighters just got in trouble because they announced they're doing a show new york and went out and bought tickets and then and then they announced that you have to be vaccinated before go to the show and and so some of the fans were upset because they it was only a two week notice so they couldn't even even if they wanted to get back so needed they couldn't get vaccinated in time to go to the show and then some people bought the tickets and more vaccinated so even if they wanted to get it was just a mess. So our now. That's that's not cool but yeah so. I mean there's going to be a lot of. I know i talked to a guy that works at the staple center and he. He's a ticket broker and so he he bought a whole bunch of tickets for the sweets for upcoming shows and concerts and in games and then he found out afterwards that they had to be vaccinated and so a lot of people that that he sells to are vaccinated or weren't vaccinated in time. So you got stuck with tens of thousands of dollars of tickets at you just bought. I didn't even think about that. That's crazy it's it's going to like the big show here and right now california's midstate fair casseroles coming up in july and trying to out because big and rich play there and then my friend cowboy troy plays with them very cool. I'll go try and see him. But i don't know i don't know we'll see see how everything goes to. The roads are saying things kind of interesting state to state. Yeah i guess. We'll see what it for you. I think it's it's kinda cool because being at a young age you're going to look back in ten or fifteen or twenty years and remember this time. I kind of weird think about you know. My kids are going to be written about this answer. But that's right the reading about the The impeachments and the election they insurrection. The vaccine i mean all that crazy stuff one year. That'd be good so after your your website shows. You have pretty much gigs bull with august. Do you have anything set up after that. And you're just waiting or well. Yeah i have some dates. That are coming out that i can't You know that i. I try to space out time. That i now shows and things of that nature coming out but yeah a lot of things coming up of releases and Different events coming up in that feature and definitely the end of the year school now freedom. Jim awesome freedom. Gams going to be a big one. super soaker. That one i got the planet it last year and Really excited be down back and my friends that go to that live in missouri. A big very cool very cool. Yeah i'm excited for that one. What's the best way. I'll close up. What's the best way for my listeners. To find out what you have going on how. How do you want them to to folly. My instagram peyton. How music. tay t. o. N. h. o. w. i. e. and That's my instagram. Same thing with my facebook page. Peyton how music and i'm yeah you can check out my stuff there and i have a website now dot com. I got all my shows listed there. I got some merge music all that fun stuff so that's the best way to stay connected. I love with you guys is. If you're listening. Thank you yes. I'm sorry but i was just thinking like what's the biggest How do you want people. Do you want people to buy your music. Is it spotify streams. I mean how does that. What do what do artists look for. Now what does the measuring. Because he's be record sales. But i don't think that's the case you know i would say i mean i think that is of something based on opinion I would say personally for me. I've seen that the thing that is helping artists most nowadays. It's spotify streams confined. Because i think that's something that a lot of labels looked. I think a lot of people are looking at spotify streams and listeners and different playlists you've been added to and things of that nature so i would say i would say probably having one of the greatest impacts Nowadays artists so all my listeners. Go to spotify and listen and and follow payton on on on spotify me greatly appreciated. Thank you absolutely and if you ever need a pair of boots or anything you know. Shoot me a call. I will definitely take you up on that. I'm pretty much like on barn. Like i love it right actually. Do you can buy stock in bloomberg. They went public a few years ago. It's actually a hilarious. 'cause you just play clips like none of us have ever heard before what we do like. What if it's play the clip. What's the scenario like. Why is this happening that too. So what's the next clip. I was asking me what i got on. They were like. Hey buddy. don't web sweetheart. If that's left this seven when me and my boyfriend kadian and i started dating.
