"We were wrong," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says

"Today at about commissioner Roger Goodell and took to Twitter with a surprising message in which she expressed regret for the NFL not doing a better job on speaking up on behalf of players when it came to issues of police brutality and racism we the National Football League condemn racism in the systematic oppression of black people with the National Football League commit we were wrong for not listening to NFL players earlier and encourage all to speak out peacefully protest read the National Football League believe black lives matter I personally protest with you and want to be part of a much needed change in this country I'm within the last hour saints quarterback drew Brees released in this letter to president trump on his Instagram page when she tells them that the issues at hand or not about the American flag but rather about injustices against African Americans he wrote we have the white community need to listen and learn from the pain and suffering of our black communities we must acknowledge the problems identified the solutions and then put this into action the black community can not do it alone this will require all of us no G. P. I. E. I think a lot of people really surprised the here some of the things that drew Brees has said he's sort of taken some of them back please apologise now he's addressing the president what are your opinions on it all well from the beginning more and I have a lot of respect the Jew breezes he's a future former Walter Payton man of the year award winner bye he would if he was off the mark when he made those comments and just with the time that we're in right now Indian office markets sets all things but the one thing is is that we're starting to see him come back and make these apologies and hopefully moving forward you know not just his words with actions I want to see actions are to resume with the NFL as well to hear Roger Goodell and the NFL step up that's good on their end as well you know they have the social justice reform groups and all the stuff that they're doing what we have to see more action and in those comments from Roger Goodell there was no sorry to Colin Capra Nick so I want to see that maybe men that relationship as well but I think it steps in the right direction for not only drew Brees but also for the

"Out sports fans are starving for live events and sports to return as we saw the TV ratings for Sunday's the match golf game that featured bait manning and Tiger Woods against Tom Brady and Phil Mickelson hit an all time mark twenty million dollars raised for covert relief efforts and following the match Payton was happy as you'll hear here to come out on top against his old pal Tom Brady and Phil Mickelson well I'm a real person these guys world and the kind of be in the arena with them it is really a special experience and I was not comfortable the entire time from the first team all the way down here but knowing the twenty million dollars was raised in helping people that are really going through tough times it was a lawyer for Tom and I both Phil and tiger to play in this match and really something I'll always remember and cherish that audio courtesy of Turner sports who as I mentioned set a cable television rating hi mark with an average of five point eight million viewers that's better than any golf major we've ever seen on cable in those early rounds really a great event all the way

"Have Phil Mickelson can't wait to beat Tiger Woods on his home course in this charity event that's coming up on Sunday that's what Phil has been talking about I idly haven't seen anything from tiger regarding this now it's not just that tiger versus Phil thing member we already did that once and I think it fell flat that was my take and I'm a Die Hard golfer love Tiger Woods love lefty and I felt like it was it just lacked a lot of yeah I don't know personnel is so it's crazy because I know Phil is nuts I mean he's crazy tiger little more reserved they're gonna be at the medalist golf club in Hoby sound Florida there I think it's a three o'clock on TNT or TBS maybe on something else as well but I believe those in the last I saw that was where this is going on going down and it's tiger and Peyton manning versus Phil and Tom Brady so adding two more people to the Max one with a big personality Payton's guy he's funny tale Peyton is a very funny guy I'm hoping we get to see some of his comedic value he's he's good I mean you can his tight timing yeah yeah I agree in Phil was saying and I can't wait to take tiger down is a home course tiger thinks he has a huge advantage because you know he was insisted that the event was played on his home course and he goes look at everybody else wants to play everywhere else elsewhere in tiger was insistent on it and he's like fine we'll take it to him and paid no problem feels like okay fine that's what we'll do they're going to raise by the way ten million Bucks for covert relief which I think is pretty cool that they're using that angle as well and they'll be side wagers going on I think to I don't know that doesn't make it to the television maybe they will all they would have died but I but I guarantee you a thousand Bucks close to the pair they will want that they're getting I mean they want that they're going to encourage that the the the television networks because that makes this thing much more

New Orleans Saints agree to terms with QB Winston on one-year contract

"Yahoo Sports is Charles. Charles Robinson reports at Norrland's is finalizing a one year deal with Winston. The former buck coming off a five thousand one hundred nine yards season thirty plus touchdowns three interceptions and immediately eyebrows. Raised the idea that Winston would stay in the division. Go to the Saints. Backup drew brees. He enters the mix with Tatum Hill. Who IS SUPPOSED TO BE? And maybe still is the heir apparent To breeze so it just leads to a lot of unsolved mysteries in its own right greg your thoughts when you heard the news that Winston may be and quite possibly is headed to the saints I I wasn't shocked because I I what I did. This hashtag setup into your own comet with a big way. Why why you made your Greg sounding you often. I got it. I wasn't gonNA say anything but then mark reacted to it and I can't help myself but go ahead. I did this Saints Twitter Pot. Podcast just knew that way wolf as podcasts. Him into my buddy Adam and they were saying they were hearing. This was going to happen before the draft so they got sources on the inside and and they ended up being proven right and it makes all the sense in the world of your Jameis Winston and makes sense of. You're the saints too. I think you get a chance to get Jameis. Winston in the building for a year probably drew brees his last year. We haven't heard any financial terms the Jameis Winston deal you know was reported on before the Taste Hill extension Came out and the money that was involved. That extension came out. Part of me does wonder. Is this deal for absolute sure does did Winston know about that before he he came determines but either way he? He should do the deal. Because if he can somehow impress Sean Payton or if he can end up getting in the lineup and being as backup like Teddy Bridgewater What better place to possibly learn because damis Winstons still has a lot to learn but he also has a lot of talent a guy that throws for five thousand yards can do things in the NFL and like there's no better place to learn. Other than to undo. Breezy and Sean Payton.

Sean Payton informs New Orleans Saints no offseason program this spring

"Sean Payton told players Wednesday will they will not have any type of offseason program this spring virtual or otherwise is the quote from Peyton. Take care of your families your health and be ready this summer completely wipes it out. He had A. He had a tweet with A. I believe it's a game of thrones ref of kind of mocking the setup of whether virtual meetings are like with all the players and coaching staff. I wonder if this GONNA be pains and influential Guy A domino or a lot of teams are like the stupid. Like I know what we're trying to do here and stay in touch with the players and start installing layer of what the twenty twenty game plan is but maybe we're better off just clearing the decks and waiting for everything to settle. I would add that there that does need to go through some channels in terms of the the league in the NFL. Pa and how they want that stuff to be handled on that came from our newsroom on some level. But secondly that. That's that's maybe more of a luxury for a team like the Saints. Where the coach? The quarterback in many of the players are embedded in know each other. Well that's not a luxury. A first year coach Matt Rules Approach things that way I can guarantee you wondered what rule does rule or any of these first year. Coach is really think a lot's going to be accomplished in this. I guess dating with players you've never met. I would think it would. You'd want to establish some I D of WHO? You are as a coach with as many players as you could. That would be my approach if I were first year coach. I was stunned to see this. Because you just don't see. Nfl coaches give up control like that that they're saying okay we could be. We could have you two hours a day for a month and a half. But we're going to say no we we're going to trust you to show up to camp and you just don't see them giving up control and this is a different time. Obviously I think New Orleans is one the hardest hit cities too. I think maybe that's a factor because a lot of the players live around there Sean. Payton had corona virus. Or maybe it's hitting him a little. There's a lot going on and to your point markets a veteran team. So it's not the same but I I can't remember coaches doing anything like this. I I'd be. I'd be Kinda surprising. Other teams took the approach. I mean he's not doing this if he thought it would hurt the team. You must not think they're you know something. Here's the next move though you do that. You say that. Then you create a trend around the league or other saying you know what the Saints Are. Smart. We're going to do the same thing. Then the saints secretly are meeting for two hours a day and they are getting that little bit of same said. That's good that's like two point three mark little a new pink pony operation. Perhaps in a way maybe

I'm doing well, rich. I didn't know if it was mayor. But dialed me but good to be on. No. It was me. It was me. Definitely me. How you doing? What? What's what what is lifelike that post draft? I figured let's let's let's go underneath the Sean Payton out here. What's going on with your right now? Yeah. So we pushed our off season program back by week. It we've done that before when we're going into the playoffs or go deep in the class. So our players are in the building now and just lifting and run it. You know, we don't. We don't spend a lot of time in meetings or whatnot. You know, they're coming to the facility really getting their bodies in shape. You know, most of them a lot of them, you know, been training already and in the meanwhile, we're as coaches preparing for the upcoming rookie camp where you know, the draft picks will be in for that camp to the sign free agents after the draft still be in. And then we're also allowed to bring in guys on a three day tryout in. So we just met on the rookie camp that we're having next weekend. There'll be probably around sixty five players here the third of which will be draft draft players. Yeah. Free agents in I I would say two thirds will be on trial basis. Well, it looks like you got yourself a new center with the first overall pick of your draft in the second round out of Texas. Am kid Eric McCoy? Now, it was really nice moment for us in our draft coverage to look in on him when he was a apparently they're on the phone with you or Mickey loom. Finding out that his dream is coming true. He's not only going the NFL. But he's going to snap the football that drew Brees of all people. What was that? Like when you got on the phone with him, Sean..

"I don't know how to answer it. I feel like it's every other year. It's on the odd number years. So twenty nine hundred and it comes up, and then we'll hear it in twenty twenty one. And then he went as far as saying, I've got floored the lease tattoos that can't be erased. I don't know we're. We're Sean has tattoos. I don't wanna know. But. I don't know. I don't buy that. I don't buy that. He's like, oh, I got to sorry. My love for the saints runs. Pretty deep. What's it gonna say? I I really I don't really look into that much. Again. It's always going to be the question. Sean Payton this possible candidate to be the next the Cowboys next head coach to follow Jason Gert. I don't look into that way. I think he's got a pretty good situation there. He's being paid a lot of money. He's had successor. And I think until he gets fired until they decide that they wanna move on. He's going to be there. I don't think you can really just all of a sudden thing I want to be the coach of the Dallas Cowboys now if they pay fifteen million a year, maybe or John. I think he's probably making about what John gruden's make an annually, but the long term contract, which is guaranteed for one hundred million. But the point is I don't know why he would even think about leaving unless they force him out of town. Well, I think I think that but along with that I think you know, until you don't have drew Brees ride that train. You know what I mean? Like right now, you're Sean Payton the New Orleans Saints. You were blown call away from going to the Super Bowl. And I mean, it's not it's not even like, okay, Sean for twenty nine hundred you can either be the coach of the saints. He doesn't have the choice right now. You know what? I mean, like if he openly turned down the opening of the Dallas Cowboys head coaching job. Then I think that would be really fascinating. But you're right. Like, you said it. Well, like, what's he going to say? I mean, you know, like, the tattoo thing is really funny. And that's what kind of caught the headlines, but what is he supposed to say right now like, Sean, what are your thoughts on this job that isn't available right now. You know, I mean until until either. Jason Gerdes a contract extension or somebody else's the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. I think that rumors will exist that he wants that job. I mean they've existed for a long time for a reason. But even if at the live room or they don't comment on anyway. Right. So I don't know how prudent the, you know, the news is. But I think I think it's very entertaining. Think that he's got to fill the question about that. And this fact that he just needs to give the vote of confidence to the fans, I think that's a good way just to to to put the put this news out. Yeah. It's it's some water. And I think it's yeah. Let people run with what what the response also think, Sean. Let's let's get real here. He's saying I've got tattoos that can't be race. Rex Ryan had a tattoo of his wife. When a Mark Sanchez jersey. I mean, you know, he he got that fixed. I think still there all he got it changed. Okay. I thought in my on. Yeah. In the tattoo. She was wearing a Mark Sanchez jersey. And he got the color changed when he became the bills head coach. So the jersey was like Bill definitely changes. But like even then like the tattoos like I mean, I feel silly getting this deep on a tattoo. But I mean, do you can have that saints tattoo forever? You want the freaking Super Bowl? They're like, even if you went and coached a Jaguars at some point in your life. Like what you did in New Orleans is still amazing, and you should still remember it forever..

"We'll get his take on the all star selections. And if he thinks it's a bad thing to have the draft made public is going to draft guys. Eric Mangini continues to join us. What did you think of how Sean Payton coached in the NFC championship game? Some of the some of the play calling. Did you do you have any negative reaction to it? I thought overall he he did a good job. I thought Wade Phillips nice show of taking away some things that were problem in in the first game. And and he made some adjustments to what they're doing with with KOMO or out of the backfield. They started to push them out of the backfield. You know, the the call we we've all talked about the call over and over again, and I get it. And we've all been frustrated by calls that were either missed or made that affected our lives. But that's that's part of what happened and maybe they'll change the rule. The only concern I have is they had a chance to go win the game. They had kids play defense. Then they got the ball. I just like New England did and overtime. So they had a little bit higher percentage of an opportunity to win the game. And they didn't. And then they had a chance to play defense again. And the Rams kick a fifty seven yard field goal. So you just wonder if that call got everybody's so preoccupied with with that moment that they weren't able to move on to all the other moments that would have given given them opportunity to even have to worry about about the call. Look I've been critical, and I think other people have as well of not running the ball. First second third down to take away the chances for the Rams take away their timeouts. I know they checked out of a run. On first down and even the past which is a pass interference that boat. Wasn't that both onto the inside she'd been during the outside? He here's what I'll say about that is over and over again. We celebrate Coty takes chances. Remember in the Super Bowl kicked in onsite kid. He takes chances. So to criticize the guy for putting the ball in his best players head in drew Brees is hands any critical moment, I have a really hard time with and even if they'd run the ball three times, there's still would've met I think fifty seconds left in the first game. If they don't get a first down you are allowed to get a first down when you're on the football. You are and you're allowed to get stopped and you're allowed to get a penalty. And you're allowed a lot of bad things can happen. But in the first game there are twenty six seconds left in the first half. When the Rams got the ball back and they walked down and kick a field goal. So to say that they couldn't do that in fifty seconds. Well, that's not true. We we saw it happened in the first game. So I just I think it's very easy after the fact that say he should have done this. He should have done. That but he put the ball in his best players hands. He checked out of a bad play into a good play. And look they got a penalty. It should have been a penalty. So to criticize him for that. I I don't feel good about. I don't love the way things were handled after after eight moments fair. Breeze. Hasn't looked the same is have we reached that point with Brees? Or is it a year the attrition of a season? And that's what happens with older players. They wear down at the end of the year like it breathes was not nearly as dynamic end of the year as most people think breeze should be well, this this this offense was was shaped a little bit differently. They had two running backs that we're really effective. And it was it was almost run I approach, and I I didn't see breezes performance later in the year as as a as a decline, I think sometimes the the scheme dictates, you know, more running than than passing, and it may may look a little bit different than what we've expected from that offense. But I don't think it was different because his performance had declined substantially would you consider the Cowboys if you're Payton? Why I I don't know why you hit hit hit reset with a better younger roster..

"Never get too low. It's why they're able to come back and games. Like it looked like the chiefs were done down fourteen. Nothing coach read is not an overreact guy. It's why young players like for. He doesn't freak out. Bella check, clearly is just a flat line like Sean Payton, for example, is probably I mean, he was by four of the four coaches the most emotional, and he's calmed down a lot. But he's more of a roller coaster in the other three guys. That would be my question on Kyle gets pretty emotional during games like he's going to have to tone it down a little, Sean McVay, even keel like this guy is a Boy Genius. There's just no disputing it anymore to win that game. You can say all the walk to look we'll get into Sean Payton in a minute because I saw one guy's eagle cost them the game. Sean Payton or excuse me. I don't watch Sean McVeigh in like everything. His ego gets in the way. And maybe it will one day. His next contract is going to be stupid. I probably make like fifteen million dollars a year as he should. I mean, he took a team that sucked that just moved L LA. And it didn't feel like it belonged. It felt like he was going to be a Royal failure two years later they are headed to the Super Bowl. And are clearly even for LA, STAN, they do matter, but they do have creating a footprint down there. They are the team how they not be Sean McVeigh girly think think about this. Also, Sean McVay so much respect that his best player on his team's Aaron Donald has players Todd Gurley. He's either hurt something's up with. I maybe will come out. In the next week doubt it because we're still playing the Super Bowl. It's probably an injury. But his injury affects his play. And you see a lot of times receivers if they're not especially speed receivers. They're not one hundred percent. They're basically zero percent because they suck. Now. Physical guys can play through injuries. But speed receivers usually get pretty impacted by an injury. So Todd Gurley while he's a power back. He's also his game very predicated on his speed, which is elite maybe throwing them off. And it it bleeds into his mental game. 'cause he was shot. Mcvay didn't hesitate on the bench C J Anderson urine. Now, they're lucky that you can pick up a guy like C J Anderson late in the season that had been leading rusher on a team that had won a Super Bowl girlies. No dummy. He knows that. I was at that game. C J Anderson was good Peyton Manning. Couldn't throw me to the wall in front of me arm shot. So it's not like your typical practice squad edition late in the season. Like, this guy is on the wall was the starting running back for a team that could not really throw the ball. You know, play defense and run the rock, and he was a good player..

"It was so many things that could have it in that moment. And it's the reason Rams are going to the Super Bowl team. Hang around. Yeah. Let them, hey. Because they let us hanging around. I mean, we. Went up playing great in the first half. They couldn't hear the office. Was you could tell it man, the offer them because you really couldn't hear in that statement. I say we had we went in thirteen ten and half. I said, oh, we don't win this game. I think it's going to try to we don't want to lose it. We don't wanna lose it. And that's exactly what happened. I think a point accurate member. Who said I think eagle plays a role in this all this hype around sham McVeigh, and Sean McVay as the next Sean Payton, I think some of that crap into Sean Payton, you're thinking in terms of there's a conservative way to go ahead and win this game. But you want to deliver the Dag try to bury them try to try to marry instead of just taking wasn't there and was given because when you look at it Now Sean McVay won the game with his fake punt early. He did undermine the whole. He is the next Sean Payton, and maybe the next Bill Belichick. I think ego played a role in. And I might you made the point. And I think it's indisputable. We disagreed on one thing when you said that we should have went for the touchdown the fourth and one you take the points. Tell you the point you take you take it away win. He would conservative. We did that and week nine. We didn't take the points and wind up losing because it that put us in a bad situation. We would have been up three. Instead, we're going down three and losing by ten. "This section of the podcast. I really liked to tell you a little bit about what the meeting was like between drew Brees and Sean Payton in which they go over the game plan, and it's like to John Nashes from Beautiful Mind talking to each other and talking a language that I certainly couldn't understand the same way. I would not have been able to understand John Nash and his mathematical formulas, but what I thought what I thought was was interesting overall and just a little bit of inside football here. During the course of the evening, obviously, there's some sensitive stuff that's being discussed and exactly what they're going to do in the game plan. I thought it was amazing. How free they were with their information. The saints coaches and players, and and I think that one of the reasons is that they're going through this football nomenclature so fast. And it just you know, and they go, and they go, and they go, and it's a language like, they're speaking Flemish, and I just can't understand a damn word. They're saying, but the interesting part of it. I think is and I think the reason why Peyton isn't worried about me leaking anything anybody. I mean is what what would I know when they say snug left Y fly P thirty five stab dog f rail. Everybody got that. And everybody says, yeah. And. And so, but I I don't know what any of those any of those words are symbols or herb reveal mean. So basically, I think there's no need to worry about it. I could hear that all day. But it's like if I was sitting in a room for the first day hearing, some different language, obviously, I'm not gonna have any idea what they're saying. So I found that to be really really interesting. The one thing that will tell you before I get into the breeze part. That was very interesting is that Peyton is. Just this crazy mad scientist when he's thinking of plays to this point. He started thinking he was said he was doodling Thursday night. And he started thinking why do we have to have a quarterback in a formation? Why can't we have a totally empty backfield? No quarterback, no running back. And obviously at some point. There's going to be somebody there to take snap. But why can't we have a totally empty? Backfield where we'll have five ofensive linemen. And what I'm gonna do is. We're gonna have a bunch formation on the right with two wide receivers and our backup quarterback tastes them hill who also plays sort of jack-of-all-trades role form on the left hand side. We're gonna have to wide receivers in drew Brees. And so we're gonna come up to the line of scrimmage and the play clock will be going down twelve eleven ten nine. And I asked him about it. And he said now my goal is for there to be eight Philadelphia Eagles all looking at their their defensive play collars, Malcolm Jenkins. My goal is to have them. All looking at Malcolm Jenkins saying what do we do? Because you know, if you don't have a quarterback are running back back there. What do you do? And so and I said, okay. Well, what do you do? And he goes, well, eventually, either tastes them hill or. Breeze is gonna come back. He's gonna take the snap. And do whatever the design was when that happened tastes them hill was gonna come back, and he was going to take the snap for max the center, and he was going to run around right end. And hopefully run at their target of the day. Sidney Jones a cornerback who they don't think tackles will. So anyway, I thought that was sort of the darndest thing I've ever seen in my life. I'm watching this play. And I am saying somebody forgot to play quarterback there. So that was that was pretty pretty interesting. So let's let me go to the the meeting now between breeze and Peyton that. I thought was so I thought one of the really really interesting parts of it is just the realisation that a coach are smart coach is now. Not an autocratic, man. A smart coach is a bit of a democrat. He's a bit of a collaborative person much more. So than you would think in the days of Lombardy, and and even in the days of Bill Walsh. I once was able to sit in on a week of the Green Bay Packers in it. And I do remember I in the Saturday meeting that Brit farve in Mike Holmgren had. Honglin said, here's the place..

"It really is amazing how fragile those moments were, and what a foundation you and drew Brees have been able to build and build upon at the time, Sean Payton. Here on the rich Eisen show knowing it's your first shot at being hce in this league like this, right. Knowing what system you wanted to bring in scheme you wanted to bring. What did you see in breeze that you thought this is my guy? Well, there were two or three traits that you just couldn't. You couldn't ignore smart, tough, accurate bedded, followed him, man all through college, and you knew. That he had the the grit, some of those other essential things that we're going to help him in in his re recovering his rehab. In other words, if he couldn't recover from the shoulder injury, then it's probably likely that no one would have been able to because it was something that there was no precedent relative to the injury he had. It wasn't like, well, he had an ACL. This is the here, the percentages, or he had an ankle or whatever. This was a fully torn rotator cuff shoulder injury for right handed passer, so all those intangibles, but but the athletes ISM, the intelligence and the accuracy. I think we're things that it stood out in. You know that the challenge for us was, you know, recruiting, you know, with the city that was still having you in Chambas. And it's interesting. We had Reggie Bush on yesterday coach where he said that he didn't. He wanted to get a trade to the to the jets and instructed his. And that you were having none of it and told his guy Oranje was as we all know legend in the NFL and the football world, you told him that's not happening. It's what he said. It wasn't quite that. That wasn't quite the language. But it was all happening within a month and we were able to secure drew and move move towards the drafts then with a little bit more freedom with that, pick at number two in hopefully take the best available player in. So as you start getting ready for that process and Reggie fell, that first night fell. I mean, you know, obviously Mario was taken by the Texans. Now we're on the phone with with him and they were making this election and orange his marketing guy. So it's rare that he gets even chance to get on the phone conversation. But if anyone doesn't know Mike Ornstein, he'll find a way to get on the conversation in any number, forget the condescending coach, you know, look, I know you're gonna do great job in this league, but the kid doesn't wanna come and play there. So you need to get this trade to the jets. Worked out. He went on for about five minutes. It's and then quickly we put that to bed..

"Gotten off to a strong start to the series not turnovers and seventy eight minutes out personally do you take that matchup terry rozier our own goodies i have a trash talking etiquette question because if you heard the question that was asked and this of course there's the play everyone appointed but but you heard the question he has not forced him to turn the ball over in seventy eight minutes series he's getting destroyed by rosia are you allowed to talk trash when a guy is destroying a way to ask gary payton about this one of the all time follow tool trash talkers did the game has is there a difference to me talking trash on the court where we may not hear versus what he did because now he looks fooled but in bless does defense he was clapping back in roles ears defense he's having his play against blitz i the raptors also up two nothing on their opponent the wizards behind a franchise playoff record of one hundred thirty points to marta rose in matching his postseason i hit thirty seven assists with what what calorie reset his postseason well and the two were best friends on and off the court as you can see here it's not like i gotta hatami set of go out there and you know i got score thirty forty points i go out there and play aggressive thirtyseven what you mean i didn't go out there saying let me score the dirty tonight but i say you've got thirty seven they'll say like what i'm saying i didn't go out there and one of them says you can't say that you had thirty seven listen when i'm trying to explain whatever i understand what you're saying you don't let me finish i didn't even cannot leave like i said i didn't go out there planning to score thirty seven points i would out there to be aggressive in with my goodness came up thirty seven points.

"Because this is episode ninety seven we are approaching triple digits i don't even know if something if i'm gonna do something extraordinary or special for one hundred or just follow the follow the walter payton example walter payton remember is a was a hall of fame football player one of the greatest chicago bears and when he was playing that's when all of the endzone celebration started to really take hold in the mid to late seventies when guy started to dance and spin the ball and before guys would basically spike the ball if they had a touchdown and then it just began to develop into these more elaborate kinds of celebrations to the point now where the nfl actually has a an anti celebration penalty if you celebrate too much that's seems to be kind of suggestive but or subjective i mean how what what's too much celebrating but in the midst of all that walter payton you may recall when he would score a touchdown and he scored many many many many of them and when he would go score a touchdown he would just simply flip the ball and give it to the referee no dances no spiking no big things he sort of just gave it to him and went about his business and his philosophy was you should when you score touchdown you should act like you've been there before and you plan on getting there again so there's no need for some big celebration most of the time we celebrate because this has never happened before or happened so infrequently so we have some sort of a celebration that payton's view was i intend i've been to that end zone many times and i intend to get there many times more so no need to celebrate which i thought was kind of a cool adage to live by and so that's the way i'm looking at it i'll i'm following the the walter payton view of scoring a touchdown just act like you've been there before and you're you're definitely going to get there again so maybe for the hundredth podcast we'll just pretend not pretend but will just act like hey no no big deal.
