"There's just so well done acting, writing, directing, cinematography, you name it, it's just, it's the perfect movie. What do you think, Charlie? I love both movies. I said it before, but Goodfellas to me is just more visceral. It's just like I said, you strap yourself in and it doesn't stop. Plus the soundtrack. Yeah. Great soundtrack, yeah. The songs that he uses is so great. Yeah, I got to say Goodfellas. And one thing that is weird about Goodfellas, too. Remember when the first movie poster came out and I think Paul sorvino was in there. So I always thought Paul savino had a big role in Goodfellas. Right. And then they changed it to just the three of them. And it was like, wow. But anyway, to go back to what I was saying, it's probably Goodfellas for me. What do you think, Tom? Godfather's might be the greatest film, one of the greatest films ever made. I personally think godfather two is better than godfather one, but that's a separate story. But for me, I'm kind of on the same page with Charlie. Goodfellas is just endlessly rewatchable. There's not one second that is dull or boring. There's comedy both intentional and unintentional comedy. There's action. It's my favorite director with my favorite actor De Niro. It's a tough one. You have to be really prepared to sit down and watch The Godfather. Three hours long. It's a film. Goodfellas is like an action movie. To me, it's always good, fellas. Charlie had a great quote where both films are great. I feel that Goodfellas is more Beatles than stones. All right. And the board noise said Scorsese is like an epic concert and Coppola is like a classical symphony. There you go. Good, good analogies. I'm going to go with godfather only because it took me 51 years to watch the whole thing in this entirety. Parody, notwithstanding. I can't stop thinking about Marlon Brando and the choices he made as an actor. Both movies are ten out of ten for sure, but I just think Brando in that movie he to me is Anthony Hopkins, you know, Silence of the Lambs level of just, you can never forget it. It's iconic and the scratching of the face was like, that's genius to me. So I will watch godfather again before I watch Goodfellas again, but I will be watching them both again multiple times, God willing. And you do like the stones more than steel. Can Andreas. Guys, thank you so much. The first ever classic movie clash. Wait, PJ, PJ. PJ didn't say. Oh, he never said yours yet. Sorry. I think I'm the tipping factor here, right? I'm gonna say Goodfellas because when Goodfellas is on, I literally recited as if I'm singing along with one of my favorite songs. Say every line as I'm watching the movie. So no one can watch a movie with me. And plus, again, because godfather came out the year I was born. So I didn't grab onto it till later on. And man, that is a, it deserves all the attention. It gets. But yeah, for me personally, Goodfellas wins because again, I can't let one scene go by without reciting it. And it's always playing in my head. Plus, you're from Jersey, so you probably know some of those areas like where they got rid of Pauly and all that sort of stuff. So you got connections of both movies. Yeah. All right, boys. Thank you so much. Great stuff. We'll think of some other movies and do it again. Thanks guys. Awesome. Thank you. All right. Good stuff. Thank you, fellas. Leave the gun. Take the cannolis.

"Liotta, who played the lead in Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas, also struggled to avoid typecasting, as did Paul sorvino, who played his mentor in the film. Why would I want to get into that? Just don't do it. I want to talk to you about Jimmy. You got to watch out for him. And the once a gangster always a gangster thing didn't just happen to featured players quite a few of serving as Goodfellas henchmen found steady employment with suburban mafioso Tony Soprano a decade later, including Paul Herman, who played beansie. This maniac. Right from the Zeppelin standpoint. And Tony sirico, who played walnut sculpture. He would have been done. Still, this wave of modern mafia epics was just that, a wave that crested with The Sopranos, almost two decades ago. There are still occasional mob stories with Italian faces, but in recent years, a more egalitarian Hollywood has turned its attention to African American anti heroes. Asian cybercriminals, drug cartels from Latin America, and as the mafia recedes, so eventually must its interpreters. Do you ever feel like nothing good was ever going to happen to you? Yeah. And nothing did. So what? I'm alive. I'm surviving. All 5 of these actors still robust and working at the start of this year are now gone, which is perhaps unsurprising in actuarial terms, but still comes as a shock. We tend to freeze actors in the roles we best remember, Khan was in his early 30s when he made The Godfather, young, vital. What the hell is this? It's a city of message. But it's now a half century later. Leota was in his 30s, serving of RICO and Herman in their 40s and 50s

"By Lindsey Barr pulsar vino, an imposing actor who specialized in playing crooks and cops like poly Cicero in Goodfellas, and the NYPD sergeant Paul serrata on Law & Order has died. He was 83. His publicist, roger Neil, said he died Monday morning and Indiana of natural causes. Our hearts are broken. There will never be another Paul sorvino. He was the love of my life, and one of the greatest performers to ever grace the screen and stage. His wife, didi sorvino, said in a statement. In his over 50 years in the entertainment business, sorvino was a mainstay in films and television, playing an Italian American communist and Warren Beatty's reds. Henry Kissinger and Oliver Stone's Nixon and mob boss Eddie Valentine in the rocketeer. He would often say that, while he might be best known for playing gangsters, his real passions were poetry, painting, and opera. Born in Brooklyn in 1939 to a mother who taught piano, and a father, who was a foreman in a robe factory, sorvino was musically inclined from a young age and attended the American musical and dramatic academy in New York, where he fell for the theater. He made his Broadway debut in 1964 in bajor, and his film debut and Carl Reiner's where's papa in 1970. With his 6 foot four inch stature, sorvino made an impactful presence, no matter the medium, in the 1970s he acted alongside Al Pacino, and the panic in needle park, and with James Caan in the gambler. Re teamed with Reiner and O God, and was among the ensemble in William Friedkin's bank robbery comedy, the brink's job. In chanji avildsen's rocky follow-up, slow dancing in the big city, sorvino got to play a romantic lead and use his dance training opposite professional ballerina and ditchburn. He was especially prolific in the 1990s, kicking off the decade playing lips and Beatty's dick Tracy, and Paul Cicero and Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas, who was based on the real-life mobster, Paul verio, and 31 episodes on dick wolf's Law & Order. He followed those with roles in the rocketeer, the firm, Nixon, which got him a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination, and boz luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet, as Juliet's father, Fulgencio capulet. Beatty would turn to sorvino often, enlisting him again for his political satire, bulworth, which came out in 1998, and his 2016 Hollywood love letter rules don't apply. He also appeared in James gray's the immigrant. Sorvino had three children from his first marriage, including Academy Award winning actor Mira Sorvino. He also directed and starred in a film written by his daughter Amanda sorvino and featuring his son Michael sorvino. While he learned that Mira Sorvino had been among the women allegedly sexually harassed and blacklisted by Harvey Weinstein in the midst of the hashtag me too reckoning, he told TMZ that if he had known, Weinstein would not be walking, he'd be in a wheelchair. He was proud of his daughter and cried when she won the best supporting actress Oscar for mighty Aphrodite in 1996. He told the Los Angeles Times that night, and he didn't have the words to express how he felt. He said, they don't exist in any language that.

"With no one to fill their shoes. Jackie northam, NPR news, kanazawa. This morning, people are remembering actor Paul sorvino. He died yesterday at 83 years old. Was featured in an array of movies and TV shows, Warren Beatty's reds, baz luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet and several episodes of Law & Order. But it was best known for his role as Polly in the 1990 Martin Scorsese movie Goodfellas. You remember that one scene where they're in prison, making dinner, sorvino's character slices of garlic using a razor blade and PR's Andrew limbong has this appreciation. There's a less flashy scene in Goodfellas, but it's one that really shows off what Paul sorvino could do. It's after they're in prison and sorvino's Polly is talking to Henry. His protege, played by the late Ray Liotta. What are you talking about? Just stay away from the garbage. You know what I mean? Pauly is warning Henry about selling drugs about associates of his that might cause trouble. We've got to watch out for kids like this. Yeah, I know what they are. I only use them for certain things, but at least we don't like grips. And every time the shot goes from leota's face back to sorvino's, it's like his eyes get a little wider. His brow higher. His voice doesn't get louder, but it gets scarier. And it builds until you can feel it when sorvino slaps leota in the face. You gonna tell me, right? Yeah. That means anybody. Paul sorvino was born in Brooklyn. In 1939. He first started working as a copywriter in advertising, but left for theater, debuting on Broadway in 1964 and starting his film career in the 70s. As an actor, as you go down the road, you begin to understand how difficult a profession it is. This is sorvino talking to NPR in 1979 about how he views his craft. I'm trying to put together work that will last for hundreds of years. I'd like my great, great grandchildren to look at great great grandpa and say, wasn't he a good actor? He had integrity. There's new evidence, meanwhile, that Russia may soon have to stop fighting in Ukraine, WTO's national security correspondent JJ green has more on that. Western intelligence says inconclusive fighting continues in both Donbass and curzon. Part of the reason for that, Russian commanders have to decide whether to fight, to take more territory or a defend the territory that it has. They don't have enough troops to do both. Another problem, they're running out of precision weapons, and they can't repair the thousands of tanks, personnel carriers, and general support vehicles that have been damaged in the war. Ukraine's military is identified or repair facility inside Russia, about 7 miles from the Ukrainian border with hundreds of military vehicles piled up. And that we need a well, we're not. Presidents got it. But it's a function. Lawmakers are getting it today. But we can function, right? Right. Like it's not, you know, thank God. I think the hospitals, the hospitalization rates, have kept a little bit lower, or the people that are getting into the hospital have not been vaccinated. We have the tools Correct. And I just, I keep thinking about this reset and maybe we need forgive me and I think Gina and Caroline bring up that when we have a recession, people lose jobs. It hurts. And there's certain people that get impacted more severely, but do we need some kind of recession reset to kind of figure out what our economy needs to be on the other side. Maybe we don't even need a recession reset Carol. Maybe we just need a little bit of softness because especially when it comes to hiring. I mean, look, anecdote, I have anecdotal evidence, and I have the hard data, right? Anecdotal evidence tells me that, you know, speaking to friends who work for companies, they can still go to get competing offers and then bring them back to try to get a raise. I have a friend doing that right now. At the same time, he's a manager and he's having trouble keeping people below him because they're not happy with the salaries that they're getting. So we're seeing that still. The hard data for that, Carol, has to do with the fact that in the U.S., we still have what, more than 10 million jobs available, two jobs for every unemployed person. And we know that there are, I know an anecdotally, you probably do too. There are people who are not coming back to the workforce. "There but yet another great supporting cast herald panel. Kills it in this movie. John was amo- paul sorvino. Brian dentist is in it for like a split second really. The movie belongs to the caprio and claire danes. Both of them. I thought are so young. But both do of really really great job so if you can get past some of the stylistic stuff which is like admittedly incredibly in your face feels super. Mtv you know circuit nineteen ninety six which is an aesthetic. That doesn't necessarily hold up or is not often reflected in modern day media if you can sort of lean into that or or get past that whatever way you can you can deal with it. I think there's a lot to like about this movie. So what are your thoughts on. Romeo plus juliet trinet. So when this came out it was like the coolest goddamn thing just like the way everyone was dressed. And how they all had like guns incentives swords. And look i. Should you know i am not a gun nut. I am all for gun. Control there too many guns in this country. Also guns look really cool in movies when they're shot like this so the fact that everyone's like a gun hanging off their belts are like on their side arms and something was that is so fucking cool numbers smoking cigarettes neon everywhere but i actually recently revisited this to and even though i you know the movie is is like burned into my brain from seeing it as a as a team. It came out I was like this. I can't believe how insane this movie is up. Like a mainstream like watching like watching it. I was like how the hell did this ever get released. Like by studio because it's so fucking bonkers it's like it never lets up it just like constantly hitting you over the head and like. I don't think everything works here. I think Pasta with is for some reason. He's the only actor who understands what iambic pentameter is. Just what. Romeo and juliet is written in and he's the only one for some reason one. He's the only one who knows how to deliver it. And to apparently baz luhrman never for a second was like oh none of my actors are delivering this dialogue drive because no one else here knows how to read the except him and i found that like really weird. That's how the like the acting is bad because like you mentioned harrow. Pinner row is so good in this. John leguizamo is having a really good time but for some reason. No one in. This movie understands what i am. Pentameter isn't how deliver lines in that. So i found that really really distracting. But it's so stylish. It's so in your face. Paul rudd shows up. There's just there's just so much to really love about this movie and like even if like you watch and you're like a purist and you're like this is an abomination to shakespeare. You have to admit it's got style man i would. I would kill for more mainstream hollywood movies with this much style. That's that's my biggest takeaway was just like. I wish more stuff that is outside of franchise material would have the the freedom to be able to do something as wild as this because the Nowadays you see something. Like i dunno like like paradise hills is the thing that that comes to mind immediately which is very very small movie that not a lot of people watch but it had this incredible Visual palette and look to it in the production designs insane and just that movie had such a tiny budget that they could get away with it in the studio or backers or whatever didn't really think of is that much of a risk but like all the middle ground stuff. This movie was like cost. Like around fifteen million dollars. That was very like middle of the road for hollywood in the mid nineties and there were tons of movies that were in that sort of budget range that got released all the time and now that part is the the sort of aspect of hollywood. That feels almost lost today. And just yeah. I'm right there with you. I really wish that more movies would have the freedom to be able to do to take swings like this. 'cause the candid camera angles. The other vehicles look like Like boxy convertibles that have had the tops completely Off them like they're sheep or something. I was thinking in the editing is so fast i'm sitting there like my mouth was agape during that especially during the opening sequence of the gas station like just thinking about the the production team and everybody coming together all the production assistance and everybody filming on the day being like wait a second you want us to do what want to create the set to look like that are you serious and just it is so much of a like an autour movie man it is. It is definitely like a calling card. Movie act. Didn't really care for moulin rouge which i talked about. I guess like a controversial opinion. That i have that came out a couple of years after this but man i. I really ended up liking this one a lot. Better at just the source material. Or what like the style Basel that's kind of his things. Like he hits you over the head with with those stylistic choices and i thought it worked better here than it did in bowen rich busters me. So yeah any any closing thoughts. Chris on romeo plus julian. It's a lot of fun i missed. I also miss that era when there was like this influx of Reimagined shakespeare thing because then we got the. We got the hamlet with ethan. Hawke where he delivers the to be or not to be speech in a blockbuster video which i always thought was. Just frigging amazing. I've never seen that one. You should watch bill. Murray is crazy. Cast kyle lack in his in it. there was like the the teen centric ones like ten things. I hate about you which was his taming of. The schroder is a weird period. Where oh the othello but with basketball. It's like there's this year period where everyone was like. We gotta make really hip. Shakespeare movies and i kind of want that to come back. Let's bring that trend back really weird. Shakespeare adaptations out man. Yeah i love that. Well yeah i guess. There's a shakespeare adaptation. That's coming up soon right like you're going to be able to see the tragedy of macbeth be saying that friday. I don't know how weird that'll be. Able. i'm looking forward to it okay. So that's joel. Cohen sort of breaking out from the cohen brothers naming convention or whatever and going.

"Than the cars, you're like, Oh, there's a 68 charger that's cool. There's a 65 Mustang, but I mean, this is how stupid it is. They design a Pontiac Fiero to go into outer space and destroy the satellite that the bad guy John Cena has going. It's like I had a neighbor that had a Pontiac zero. It couldn't get down the street without breaking down yet this one's going into outer space. This is the most utterly ridiculous movie. Uh, you know, even their facial expressions. They look like they smell something bad, which is probably the dialogue coming out of the other actors mouth. It's just It's horrible. Well, tell us how you really feel I'm is it should we go see it Unless you're a 15 year old 15 year old kids like the explosions and stuff, but that's about it. Okay, so that sounds like it was fabulous. Uh, let's see him. We got a couple of mob movies. One of them is Lansky like Meyer Lansky. Yeah. Yeah. And Harvey Keitel plays him and, um, one of the worst actors Sam Worthington. Every time he's in a movie, it looks like it pains him to get the words out of his mouth. William Hurt is the other actor that has that They always look like they're pain slightly as they say there. Dialog, but he's a report of its interviewing him. And they, of course do flashbacks. So it becomes a period piece of him working with Bugsy Siegel. And it's really good. The problem. The movie has, as you've seen all this before another mob movies. It doesn't really, you know, it doesn't reinvent the wheel, so it's just kind of like, Yeah, you're seeing actors you like and it's It's an interesting story, because the true story, um but, you know, it's just kind of goes down the same path. So I I enjoyed learning a little bit more about him because I didn't see the movie that I think Richard Dreyfuss once played Lansky in a film and then, of course, Bugsy Siegel. He You know, I think in bugs eat there was a lot of Lansky stuff, but, um But the other mob movie I liked better as the birthday cake, and that's the one that's not going to get a lot of attention. And it has literally every person that's ever been in a mob movie is in this, like Vincent Pastore e. Paul Sorvino, and it's got Laurean Bronco. It's got people like Luis Guzman plays a cabdriver who's hysterical, and Ewan McGregor is the priest. And they follow a birthday cake around that this kid he's a teenager. He has to take to this big mob party. And, of course, everything that happens along the way that you know the FBI try to shake him down and His friend has problems with some drug dealers. He's dealing with these Russian bullies, and it's just It's just a lot of fun following this cake around. I don't know why. It's just it's kind of flow in parts, but I was intrigued by everything happening, and every the worst casting those Val Kilmer because he can't you know he had throat cancer and he can't speak. So he speaks like with that electronic voice box thing, like, you know, people that smoke and they have the whole in their throat now, so it kind of is distracting, and they have subtitles for him And I thought Dad. Why did you even cast him in this? It makes you wonder what they're going to possibly do with his part in top gun too, Because you know, you really just I mean, you feel bad for him, but you know, they kind of give him some back story that I don't think he was shot by Iraq or arrival Bob or something. But it's just so other than Val Kilmer. The rest of the cast is really interesting and fun to watch. Coincidentally, I knew someone that used to be Val Kilmer's assistant. Let's just say that you know what they say about some actors who are are very difficult. Is that the word you're looking for? Difficult, different? Um, What's another word for unique special? Yeah, that's fell. Kilmer. I met him one time and he wasn't the nicest person, but I thought, Well, you know, maybe he knew I was a movie critic. No, I think it's just because you were another person. Exactly. Oh, it's one of the little people trying to speak to me again. Josh board. Thanks for joining us. We'll talk to you next week. I am going to the urologist today. I believe that society I'm going in. I'm actually cone in two weeks, so I gotta go. You gotta listen. This is what I do. I just to stay healthy. And if I didn't have cancer in 1981, where I got diagnosed with cancer, I would have never gone to a doctor. I would have never thought about it. But you're one of those people. You know, we actually got scared into it out. So it's like so violent and I'm on Saturday night line and then you know the story and then they go. Oh, guys make my brother and we'll rest his soul Doctor heralds and brilliant doctor. Brilliant guy. Great guy. My sister Carol's husband, You know arrested so and he said, You got a thing in your throat and I go. What is that? Oh, it's like a dune where we think it's a tune when I'm gone. That's not a tumor, and I'm in the middle of SNL. Yeah, no. So they open it up on dit was a tumor and then a hole. It's a long story where it was benign. They gave you don't do that. Can you stay? Told me that was benign. They said. No, no, not a problem in the hospital. No, it's actually benign and then out, you know the story where I and then Dr Rock, says, Joe, send it to N y U To a guy named Dr Bluhm down there and let's take it. The second opinion. Rock was in medical school at the time. Is that why I was a resident at the time is that wild and I knew him associate. Yeah, so, Yeah. So he goes, Send it down there, So they cut into it like I always say, like Paul Sorvino cut into the garlic on my good fathers that video razor blade liquefied when I hit the panic because you got to get it like this, you know? He's gotta be thinking is gonna look with fire. Yeah, so so sure never came back. And there was a measure Larry carcinoma, which is an aggressive form of cancer, by the grace of God. Thanks to Dr Charles. And you know, I was okay. But money. Good guy Ever since then, then Doctor Belski remember my doctors and they told me you got to eat. You got any antioxidants? You gotta take the right thing. You have to build up your immune system and I stay in all that. So now when I have to go to a gastroenterologist, I go when I have to go to a G P a go when I have to go, Uh, we'll have to watch a hot fudge sundae melt on an airplane across the country. By God. I have to eat 72 milky ways and then take Tom's Because my stomach's upset. I do it. Health conscious Help just is totally other guys, but now I go to different specialists. I would like I told you my lungs because I heard that that the virus can hate your lungs. So I panic like, oh, my DP I go. I got to get excited guys, Joe, you don't need explain. Can I get me everyone's and I go get my mugs and thank God they were okay. And that will go to the urologist. And, uh, hopefully everything will be right there. You talk about the alimony. I can only imagine what your medical bills are away. The things you get when you have to get But listen, you you really have to go to the doctor. Yes, sir. You got a deductible on our on our health care. Do you know that? You know that? Why don't have the company health care? But they will. They will have a deductible. Mommy, Mommy and Daddy's I don't have you. Look at you guys. Will you go in? I gotta tell you, you go in and deductibles are like thousands of dollars. I don't know my wife's wedding. It's ridiculous. You know my wife's plan, which is a great plan that the company that she works for, and I'm on her plan. When I had all of my issues with my cancer. I'm thankful that we had the plan because it covered a considerable amount of the chemo and the radiation. I think my out of pocket cost was somewhere around 3 to $4000, which is remarkable because you could you know you could do all that house for all that stuff about 3 to $4000 out of pocket. Now some insurance plans. You could be paying tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands just to be treated for cancer. So but but the deductibles now are so like they raised the bar so high, it's almost impossible to hit the deductible like my sleep apnea. I have to get supplies every so often have to change the mask. Give to do certain things. Whatever. I pay for all of that out of pocket. I don't because by the time I hit the deductible where it makes sense, and meanwhile I have something that listen I could die if I don't use this machine And it's yet it's not covered under Look. You're laughing. You're anything like your wife? No, No, no, no, wait. Wait hour ago. I was a caller on this program. You've got that fat a million times, which I am. Now I'm talking about I need a piece of equipment to keep me alive and you're laughing. You're laughing about it, But your wife just goes. I'll hold the machine. Yeah, I get it. I'll tell you this. I tell you that my in laws moved in yesterday, my father in law went out of that as sleep apnea because I came downstairs this morning to get the shower or whatever. And they're Beth. Their bedroom door was a little bit open all I was here in the nose, which is exactly what that is. That's leave apnea. You're gasping for air because you can't breathe. So when he and I have to have a little talk is gonna go for the time when I used to have friends, like when I was a kid. If we have a sleepover and my parents no, I can't even imagine what your sleepovers Oh, I'm coming with you. I'm gonna tell you.

Filmspotting
Truth vs Hollywood
"Welcome to truth versus Hollywood I'm David, Chen and A. Truth versus Hollywood is look at films that are based on a true story, but we don't just talk about the film. We also talk about that true story. On this podcast will touch on what really happened. How that differs from the film and why and we're not just talking, heads will hear about the true story through interviews from experts, witnesses and people who were involved in it. It's both the real facts and the real facts are l. fix. What do you think that Joanna I loved it today Ridge? Today! We're talking about Martin. Scorsese's classic film Goodfellas Goodfellas is based on the book Wiseguy. Nicholas Pathology which, in turn is based on life of Mobster Henry Hill Hill was actually alive when the film came out and was very pleased with his film based on him, and as we'll talk about later, it definitely had an effect on his life. Pathology worked with Scorsese to write the screenplay and the film was. was a complete. It nominated for six Academy Awards and won one Joe Pesci for supporting actor. It's considered one of the best gangster movies of all times. If I put it on their list of one hundred years, one hundred movies and the Library of Congress decided that it was culturally important and added it to its preservation archives all right well. Let's get to the movie itself. It stars Ray Liotta. Hill Robert Deniro as Jimmy, the Gent Conway, who's based on Jimmy the Gent? Burke Joe Pesci as Tommy devito based on Tommy desimone Paul Sorvino Paul cicero based on Paul Vario and Lorraine Bracco as Henry's wife Karen Hill. Many real life figures at this movie was based off of an apparently Henry Hill ended up getting paid five hundred eighty thousand dollars because of the use of historian, this movie, which is a lot of money to pay to a mobster who has done very horrible things you know in watching this movie again. John Robinson one of the things that. I kind of realized you know or reflected on is the fact that we've been lost you decades seen so many movies about bad men, doing bad things, and that this movie kind of one of the prototypical examples of how they can be glorified an elevated in this. Movie makes that lifestyle look really glamorous while at the same time depicting some of the negative consequence lifestyle, but at the same time it does rubbed me the wrong way that like the people who are involved often are rewarded. We also saw this Martin. Scorsese's Will Wall Street as well. Similar dynamic, there so I'm kind of curious like as you're reflecting on your overall experience of watching the movie, and now that we know little bit more about what happened with the real life characters, and we're GONNA. Talk about it during the courses podcast like. How did it strike you that? This is based off of Real Person I. Think Scar says he couldn't have picked a better release. Go subject to to glum onto here than Henry Hill because though he is gangster and he's fully involved in this gangster life, he is a the likability of this character, which is really what's Cortesi was going for I've seen interviews. We talked about the nineteen thirty two scarface, which was the first time he ever saw. Gangsters depicted as really likable. When you Henry Hill. And he does terrible things, but he's a gangster who is a little squeamish. We see this the film and it's corroborated by true story of his life. He was violent crimes, but he wasn't a a mass murderer and You know the the charisma of him. I think is really important. He wasn't one of the most vicious people in this story. And so I think you're making good point that like. If you're GONNA choose an entry way into this world. Henry Hill is probably the ideal candidate in this case so. Well, the film opens with three men driving in a car, having a seemingly normal evening. It's then revealed that there is a captive in the trunk and than shortly after him, we mmediately get Henry's voiceover with the iconic line as far back as I can remember I always wanted to be a gangster. It's one of the most. Openings and Awesome History Joanna Robinson after nearly three decades. How effective did you find this opening? Well, it's funny. I did not see I was eight years old when fellows came out, or maybe nine so I did not see it in theaters and I didn't see it until later in life and but by then it already seats into the culture because it was so iconic. You know there's. Maniacs good feathers, pigeon parody, and like all sorts of stuff, so I'm going to wear of the beats of it, even though the first exposure to goodfellas was. Is what you're saying. Thousand percent absolutely. But you know so by the time I had seen it. I had also seen so many things that had imitated it, and this is true of like so many of our great films like by the time you get around to watching it. Maybe you seen a bunch of people. Knock it off and so you're like well. How groundbreaking? Is this
