"Hey, guys, it's Kelly here to tell you that we have a brand new podcast called Halloween, unmasked premiering, Monday, October first, here's a sneak peek. There's trouble. A teenage girl named Laurie strode crosses a quiet street toward an ordinary house to find her friends, but Lori doesn't know that her friends are dead, and she doesn't know that she's walking right toward the mass killer. Michael, Myers. The movie is Halloween and how are we just was like it was a breath of fresh putrid air. He's a pure unknowable evil. I'm aiming Gleason, and this is Halloween messed podcast series from the ringer, celebrating the remarkable and terrifying rise of America's most revolutionary horror film subscribe on apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcast to Halloween unmasked and watch your back. I think the scariest part was that he doesn't die at the end. So near ten, it's like that guy still out there. Get them. Take. Ringer, f, c, some podcasts care more than others. I'm here today with Ryan stat. God O'Hanlon what's up Brian. Just woke up from a nap after watching that menu Valencia game mica appears if I speak, I, I am in big trouble. We are going to delve into the Manchester United drama. Ross are going to talk about a little while the most exciting player in the Premier League. His name is not eating his art and discuss what an impact sub means in two thousand eighteen later, we're going to do a euro round up and talk about the developing story involving Cristiano Ronaldo. But first Champions League instant reactions as Ryan just mentioned Manchester United envelope, Chea drew nil nil that Old Trafford mica. This will not abate any of the Fuhrer currently going around the squad will. Yeah. No, that was man. What a, what? A disgusting ninety of soccer. That was. It wasn't true. It was an improvement over what they did against West Ham over the weekend. That'd be like you said that off air. And then I said in response to that, that I mean like sure, in the same way that dried out room, temperature pufus, you know, appetizer more appetizing men, you know, warm, mushy, poop billion. This is the opening warm mushy. Pope is actually more appetizing. Okay, let's not talk. That's not talk about that for too much longer. Right out much. Is your pickup exactly. Anyway over the weekend, Manchester United gots, Blake smacked, but actually by West Ham, three to one, I know that you've you've likely seen the stats. She's going around, which are the sprints for ninety collectively of the team was the lowest of any team that played. This weekend came in at fifty eight Lukaku RoboCop who had just three, but most on the team came from Luke Shaw, which is a whole other entirely. Right? And it's just kind of a thing it was. Paul Scoles was on a measure that I don't know if it was match today, what? Whichever it the cliff is floating around. Also online of false goals. Just being like Marino's embarrassing the club. Like I'm surprised that he survived past this weekend, and then you know, things are bad when Micheals echoing what Paul's halls goals. Well, let let let's let's drill down on the result though of the game. We just saw because when when we saw the starting eleven, you would think other than the omission of Jesse lindgaard who I guess is has a slight injury. You had Sanchez yada mkaku. You had rash verd-. I mean, it seemed like this was essentially the optimal lineup with Pablo behind them, manage influenzae. Finally, Eric by returned. I feel like we say that every week though, and in the lineup, I don't think Rena really knows what is best team is it changes every week from big game too big game. I I mean extensively, yes. Have that lineup would be the best lineup save for save for lingered, but can they still run with what do you think? Why couldn't United score today? I mean, they had eighteen shots which like on its face looks good, but that. Amounted to one total expected goal, which is pretty fucking terrible, given the maximum extreme confetti. But I think it has something to do with just like, like you said this while you're watching the game, they crossed the ball thirty. One times like it's like the the performance today was the absolute bare minimum performance for a team that is obviously has better players on the team that is playing against basically. Yes. And I also meant I also mentioned, is that Francis Clark Lynn for Flynn CEO was touched the ball more in the attacking the than I've ever seen him in his entire arsenal career in his one match. Yeah. I mean, Gabriel Paulista was out there as well. That'd be salvaging a point against a a, you know, bottom half table allow league team at home at all. I mean, like it's they did. You know, hold Valencia scoreless, but they also did not score and it was. Isn't through some. I mean, like it was a combination of blind look. And I mean, not really that much organization doesn't it feel like watching menu. I mean, maybe it's impossible to watch them without kind of knowing all the noise where we see, you know, on ESPN NFC in the guardian every day, but it just feels like there's not like like this is a cliche, but it feels like just eleven guys doing their own thing together linked who have never played together. There's no like patterns to their passing. It's like one guy gets the ball, looks up makes a decision and there's no like there's no like link throughout the team. No. Sort of like wholesale approached the the teams employing. It's just like a bunch of talented players that have no idea what they're supposed to do. Yeah. Whoa. That brings us to watch the ongoing park. Watch Mike. Oh, what did you make Pablo's performance today? Because surely all eyes were on. I mean, it was. It was really, it was another. It was kind of a nothing performance I there was at mean the same as has been the case for a while now, which is flashes of brilliance, but overall, just kind of average one free kick. I guess the one free kick look like it's it. I mean, like it was online. It was whipped. It was dipping, and I mean, it didn't look like it was that hard of a save as much as I dislike United in, want to see them fail and make Mike miserable. I kind of wanted that too, that free kick from pod bud to go in just for narrative purposes just to see pug celebrate just to see Old Trafford celebrate him and just as force Josie to say something nice about him. Of course it didn't go in, but it was close. It's tough to lake. For Pago who someone who's like really good at kind of getting the ball from the defense and getting it up to the attack. When like the defense on the attacker both garbage, it's tough to actually do anything. But then I guess you could make the argument that you know maybe he should be making the defense in the attack look better. But I looked at late in the match. I took a look at his heat map on who score dot com, and it seemed like he had an equal amount of touches on either side of the halfway line. So looking at that you would think that he was, you know, active in the middle of the pitch in linking the defense and the attack. Maybe it didn't really. It wasn't as incisive or effective as he can be. I mean, there were probably I don't. I don't know. You know, the stats on the key passes better than I would, but there are only a few instances of the game where I can think that anything was actually that incisive because it would be and moving the ball in between the defensive midfield, but then. Then it would end up out wide on Antonio Valencia's foot who spent most of the game miles out of position. Or you know, Marshall Arash Vert or whomever, just whipping the ball in and trying to put put it on Lukaku or filet in his head, which is not a terrible plan b, but we shouldn't have to resort to it. So it was also planted. I mean, pug behead, he created the most chances of anyone in completed the most passes into the final third, which kind of speaks to what we're saying. And then to me, it just felt like it was a lot of like Marschall rash, Vard's Sanchez, getting the ball out wide, not taking a guy on and then cutting it back and trying to like cross a ball from their inside foot on a weird angle. Like I mean, it just don't typically work. Also, I mean, the the the attack wasn't moving quick enough for their even be a fighting chance for any of that to to go in because. They Valencia head all of their players by all. I, I'm going to read this tweet from David Matic reporter at the mirror really don't want upset MU 'em UFC fans, but watching LLC and training tonight singing clapping even dancing together as a complete unit by cloud. It really does offer stark contrast to Marie and ios men management strategies. Oh my goodness. I just thought that was an interesting observation that I wanted to share. We haven't had a chance to see Joe's as post-game presser, but I would assume he's at least happy about a clean sheet and maybe he's found his best central back pairing. He's also reconnected with me. She bets y nice little hug on the touchline there in the fifty third minute. I mean, I mean, we all we all know that like attacking attacking setup or attacking plans or is not jobs as forte. So at the very least. You know, they leaked three goals against West Ham on Saturday and clean sheet tonight. I mean, they do have four points there. Three points, clear Valencia with four games left so they are on their way to qualifying, I guess, yeah. I mean, like, you know, we obviously haven't had an episode for two weeks in in that two weeks. There has been innumerable stories about Marino third season syndrome beef with Pogue bus dripping captains to see the Sky Sports footage of them, bickering on the training ground which I mean like people people internal reform miss out, but that's like classic dead cat strategy. He doesn't have to talk about how his tactics are horrible. If you can talk about a spat is having those flare like right, but that also that little spat stemmed from the Derby County. Paul pug by g story from the stand. So anyway, there's a lot of little things but essentially were. I mean, I was about to say, we're Christian doing here with, you know, the noise around Manchester United, but it can and probably will get worse. I was thinking that today getting a result would kind of, you know, ease the pressure kind of listless draw. I don't think is I mean they didn't lose, but looking at their upcoming schedule because people are already kind of circling dates in the calendar s to win Josie, Mike get sacked. They have Newcastle at home this weekend, but then it's at Chelsea event in the Champions League Everton at Bournemouth. We're good this year at UVA and then at man city in the second week of November. So you know, some people are surmising before thanksgiving before Christmas is Josie. Gonna make it to the New Year's the question. I mean, the man's city. If you're going to sort of play this game, the man sitting aim is November eleventh, and. Don't play another Premier League game for thirteen days after that. So is an international break international break or maybe. That is kind of the one you would assume that a way to Manchester City would be a sort of inciting moment for the club and then having two weeks to replace Marino. Logistically that would be the time I would do it if I. Mike as as a United fan, is it just tiresome now just every day, new headline in all kind of like the Volcker circling Ilia like anybody would there Clovis bed used to be good MRs enjoying Washington play, like like of course I've missed it joying Manchester United. But I mean, like as to whether or not Joseph, he's going to be sacked. I mean, like David boies was bad for very long and even like at his worst, they waited until the end of the season sack him, but there wasn't like a revolt against him in within the team. Now I, I don't think there is there was as much drama between him and the players. It was just the results of worst case scenario. Here's and Marino both leave, right? Yes. Sorry to bring that up. But. It's like a distinct possibility at this point. Yeah, that is the worst case scenario. It doesn't seem likely though because one will inevitably I, unless they leave at the same time, it doesn't seem like it seems like one we'll have to leave before the other which would affect whoever's remaining. Right. That's a good point. Yeah, I, it's just that there are a bunch of different reports out there that you can read where pub as you know. Not. So it's not that he's not taking with his teammates or the club or being back in Manchester. It is just the fact that hid bid Maria. Does he had I, which is what makes him one out of the club? Let me ask you though this Mike, because you're such a backer of pug, but you have to admit that he hasn't helped his situation over the last few weeks. Yeah, I would say so. But I mean, it's great leading question now. I mean, like as he obviously they are both kind of acting just ridiculously unfair, but also a manager standard will. Yeah, one of them is the manager, and you know, wants to be the biggest personality at the club. But I mean if that puts you at odds with your best player, Mike been, who is, I mean, and the best players then should be the few. In the face of the club, and you know is so vital to everything that you are able to do on the field. Then I mean, like I think that you should probably, you know, find a way to at least. Bring things down to notch since you're going to be stuck with each other for you know, the next couple of months, at least bribe, I will. Let's quickly discuss the other results from today Ryan. I know you watch city Hockenheim city one to two one goals from a guero. David Silva was a pre entertaining game. It was extremely back and forth just up and down. No real midfield. I think I described it as an MLS game where all the players were actually good. Glad I got that out of the way. I didn't say that, but I did it for the record. It was a fun game. 'cause one because it was sort of back and forth city actually didn't really give up that many good chances. There are a lot of sort of Ohio time scored like the first minute literally. Yeah, and then city scored. I think in the eighth minute on an incredible David, David Silva pass. I'm upset. I didn't talk about him more when we talked about our favorite players to watch. He's he's a gift and then you know it was. It was a rare one of those rare group stage games where like city lost their first game. So they really needed to win this game. And Hoffa Heim was kind of holding out and had a little bit of a threat on the counter attack. So it had the stakes of, you know, like the sixth game in the in the group stages felt like for city because if they didn't win, you know, one point through two games as would not have been great, but and you could tell by the lineup that put out there, it was basically his strongest eleven? Yeah. And city has liberal this weekend. So the fact that he didn't really try to even rotate the team at all. It seemed like speaks to that point as well quickly looking at the results, we won't go over them all, but two hat tricks today holiday Bala for events over the young boys, three, nil. I guess young boys haven't yet to score and the. The Champions League. Eat inject. Go also had chick for Roma five, no low over Viktoria pleasing. Tomorrow, Liverpool in Napoli. And and as you mentioned Ryan live, Liverpool have man city over the weekend. You looking forward to that one Klopp enchilada. I, I just need like the past two weeks for Liverpool is Ben just all go insanely intense game after game. I could've used a Red Star Belgrade the set of Napoli. I mean, I think it's the kind of game where if you get a draw, especially because Napoli didn't win their first game, which I think is actually going to screw them. They didn't win their me and Bill grade. So I think if we were pulled just gets a draw Liverpool. The noted team that always plays for draws. The okay with it. We should also say that Real Madrid loss to Moscow today. Oh yeah. They losing for the from the second minute on and then riffing thirty yard shots for the last ten of ten to fifteen minutes, and they've pretty losses scored. He's an Everton Loni so go Everton did not see the game, but saw a tweet saying that Moscow scored basically some kind of horror look goal. I mean, from the perspective and the rest of the game was Madrid dominating, but unable to find the net yet ultimately it will likely will not matter at all, especially Real Madrid came in second in their group last year, won the Champions League anyway. Yeah, another big, big match to look out for tomorrow. Tottenham Barscelona as a tasty one at when Lee Tottenham's entire team is injured though, basically. Yeah, Ericsson's out Staley, deadly alleys out thing, drop their first one. Inter. So this is not a must win in the second match day, but I would say a must result, maybe. Yeah, you'd think they'd have to get really kind of need a draw to this. That. Without I think dim bellies out as Well. I, I don't. I don't see that happening. I don't wolf. Barsa we'll get more into Barcelona later, but they're not in exactly sterling form either. So yeah, but it's, they're still still. ESI we'll tell you. Harry, Harry Kane, bro. And you can read a piece about this by by Ryan O'Hanlon handle the ringer dot com. Great website has not been himself for quite sometime now. Although he has taken more shots and scored a bunch of goals since I wrote that piece is true, but they Spurs have had a very easy schedule. So that'll be, I mean, the game's going to be fun. I. Washing Pacino, kind of go into a game, knowing shorthanded, knowing he needs a result and kind of seeing how he sets up the team. I think it's going to be really interesting. Yeah. Yeah. I look forward to that one games like this really make me as an arsenal fan, miss the Champions League anyway, moving sad. Moving on our next talking point over the weekend. We saw as Ryan mentioned, probably the best match of the weekend, Liverpool and Chelsea draw one one at Stamford Bridge, and that was the equalizer in that game was from Daniel storage. A Super Bowl game on my Lord. Yeah, maybe Mike, maybe you just want to quickly describe the goal or compay obscure pop culture. All right. It's not my fault that you're a thousand years old. One and number two, yet Daniel surge came on the trailing one zero in something like the eighty fifth or so minutes end. It really just kind of came from nothing. It was a ball that you know recycled to the top of the box. He was by himself probably thirty some odd yards out and then took a step and put. One look looked up, took a step, looked up and then put one perfectly in the far corner over over till this keeper. I mean, like it was honestly. Yeah. I mean, like goal this season so far, I don't think I love the today, the follow through of his leg to the follow through his leg and also like him going to the corner flag and doing that. Like I thought you do about it. Like celebration was so much better than whatever that awkward. I mean, really, it was the type of play that merits ashamed Serano esque my eighty five favorite things about that goal because we're just naming off aspects. Now, the look up should through rank everything for the rest of the past. The way that the ball fit right in between campus hand in the crossbar was like the perfect size of a ball, basically foul Ryan. Ferai goals. Ryan, do you want? I'll let you wax poetic about it for five or ten seconds if you like, I just two things I loved about it was or were one he late. Let me just quickly say that the bulk came from the other sub security and we'll drill down on that in a second. But anyway, Ryan go head power cube after missing a point blank cross from eight yards out five minutes before. Two favorite things about it were one. He was essentially like had no forward momentum and kind of had rolled the ball sideways. It wasn't like he was like, had a head of steam and just ripped the shot. And I love when guys like this ball didn't dip it just had it so much curve that the curve made it go super high and out of campus like range of his arm basically. So he like using the curve to sort of create this like impossible angle that keep her couldn't reach, but you would just never think to bend the ball like that. 'cause you're kind of bending it toward the keeper also was just like ugly kind of, but in a such a beautiful way, I mean like ugly in the way that it was kind of when he was winding up from their considering, you know, like it being a high pressure situation, it being the final minutes of the game. You're like, what the fuck are you doing? Why? Why would you even try that? And then it was just like. Holy shit. Why? What was I worried about? It was just want to add. One thing about Sturge too. I found it remarkable that in between the end of the game and his post-game presser he put two earrings in in a nose ring, judging TV, enter. And it was like ten minutes later. So. Anyway, let some extremely get my pool in the back. Daniel Sturridge's sub appearance wasn't the only substitute appearance to change a game over the weekend. We saw, Alex will be for the Arsenault play a key part in both goals for arsenal in there to know victory over what furred and Adama Traore of Wolverhampton Wanderers not for the first time. This season helped create both a wolf goals against Southampton and continues to be an impact player off the bench for Nuno Santo who has actually used the same starting eleven for all seven of wolves matches this season down. So all of these impacts performances weekend got me thinking and I was discussing with Ryan about the role of the substitute in two thousand eighteen and of course superstar nothing new in the Premier League. We seen them throughout history from Manchester United's Ole Gunnar soak Shire. Please refer to buzz proper name. The baby faced assassin. Thank you to crouch. -i Peter crouch, of course. Jermaine Defoe teacher retail also for United Olivier giroux in his latter days at arsenal. Usually these are strikers or attackers thrown on toward the end to nickel goal when you're drawn or trailing. But these as we're seeing something new with substitutes are a little bit new. I don't know if it's enough to make a trend in Ryan. Maybe you can speak more on this, but substitutes coming in at halftime, not because of injury or for poor performance, even substitutes coming in earlier in the second half, and then also sub substitutes being used, not just as a desperate attempt to get a goal, but also to change the style or the way the game is being played and maybe you can kind of go into that. I don't know. It's probably too early to know if it's a trend, but I think this is one of the things that soccer teams need to do more of. They need to strategically Eusler subs, and I think it's tough. 'cause soccer, it's not like bass. Football or basically any other sport where you can sub in and out. So you know, if a guy's consigned to a substitute role, it's like congrats. You get to play thirty minutes a week as opposed to like, you know, you're still gonna play sixty minutes like a couple of the other starters, because you're getting slanted town. Plus you only get three per match. So exactly and their injuries, you kind of have to maybe not be as aggressive with your subs just in case that happens. But like statistically players that are subbed on or strikers that are sub on score them pretty sizably higher rate than players that aren't Saddam, which you would just assume that it would be, I guess you would assume it would be the same or not or possibly even worse because the players that are coming on our presumably worse than the players that are starting head of them. But I think it's pretty obvious why because playing sixty minutes of a soccer game tires you out. And then for a guy to be fully have his energy bars full and come on for the last thirty. Minutes and run it. You is a nightmare and you know. So I think there's been some research that like arguments made that you should even sub guy on at halftime. And this way you can kind of have one striker who like runs his ass off for forty, five minutes in his like dead at halftime. You bring on the other striker who's fresh and now going and guys who've played for forty five minutes and running against them. So I, I mean, that's maybe probably an extreme strategy in it will be hard to get player by him. But I think overall managers should use their subs way earlier, and I think it's not a surprise like the sort of famous innovator alongside ours and vendor. Forgotten is kind of the guy who we named probably Cheech Reto in Seoul shy or probably the two sort of most impactful super subs of the past two decades in the Premier League. Well, it's funny we were talking about this earlier ryen that when your club subbed out shakey I think it was his first start actually against Southampton at halftime. It was kind of I think they were up three nil at half Liverpool were. And so it was kind of technical switch, but I was listening to the punditry afterward and they were not exactly criticizing club for that, but suggesting that taking him out at halftime with hurt his confidence speaking of security now or that, you know, he played so well in the first half why take him out. So I think it's like to be subbed off any time earlier than the seventy. Fifth minute now is still assumed as like you've done something wrong or you haven't been good instead of looking at it as like a technical decision. Yeah, but I mean, like it's that I think that's just the case with subbing in general, is always trying to negotiate a players. Ocean's versus technical tactical benefit. I mean, if you sub chicanery often you bring on for being yo and and hunker down the whatever. I mean, like if you or break on another defender, then you're just protecting lead at that point which I mean. In a vacuum. You think a player would understand, but I mean, who really knows everybody reacts differently? And I think it's interesting because we're talking about storage here and mentioning names before like Jermaine Defoe were crowds or even soak Shire where these guys that when they were super subs or impact subs, they're kind of in their late twenties had kind of their stints as starters, and then kind of, you know, for whatever reason because they were usurped in the lineup or because of injury or what have you. They became super sub. So it was kind of a demotion in a sense. Do you think we're gonna see a day where teams are like actually buying players as impact subs, and defining that as a role? The way in NBA team would get a sixth or seventh man. And from jump say, this is our sixth or seventh man. I mean, I guess to some degree, that's what security is. Maybe that's even what Mahrez is from Manchester City. I don't know if that's actually just because of the top sixes largest in their ability to buy depth players like that. Or if that's more of a pointed. You know, like these guys are going to be game changers in the sixtieth minute or earlier even. I don't know that that it's going to be thing that eventually gets. I mean, like everything will eventually be optimized, but I think that's mostly just buying for depth. I mean, if you're competing in several competitions at once, then maybe the striker that you bought last summer and then you buy another one in the one that you bought last summer then becomes the impacts of I Alvar Murata just because at present Chelsea's offense works better with Jrue up there than with Murata, but Murad is not a bad second choice, yellow. So do you can't really? I mean, I guess the difference between a storage or in a will be is extensively a will be. Alex will be being as young as he is. I think people would think he needs to play as much as possible. And in that goes the same for Marcus rash for, that's also for Gabriel j Zeus. So I mean, like I guess really, we'll see, you know, impact subs being thing. If twenty four and twenty five year old players are okay with being substitutes, which I guess will probably not happen if they wanna play for their national teams, etcetera. Isn't it tough considering like just kind of the rhetoric in the traditions around it because it's like, say, Sturge keeps coming off the bench in the in the Premier League like scores against man city this weekend, Liverpool win. Does it a couple more times? Like if he keeps scoring when he's in, he's going to be like England, call England call up, but he's also going to be like, I could do somewhere. We're put like, I'm scoring when I play play me more, you know being. So I think that there's kind of, I don't know. It reminds me of like, you know, in baseball, like the Tampa Bay rays almost completely did away with the concept of starting pitcher, and they just have like one guy, they call an opener and he pitches one or two innings, like as hard as he can. And it's been like a wildly successful. Thing, but it's like you still have all of these guys that are like, no, I'm a starting pitcher, you know, that's I need to pitch, you know, seven innings of game, two hundred innings. This season, whatever. It's if you go. If you go deeper in that, it also affects their checkbook our pocketbook too. Right. Well, I think that's the other thing like maybe you when you're if you're signing a guy as an impact sub, maybe that's like, do you work that into sort of the incentives in his contract in some way like goals off the bench or something? I don't know. I mean, that's also pretend category of the contract and for career, whatever. I don't know what they do that in real life. I mean, Mike, let me ask you, hypothetically wouldn't if you are, wouldn't you wanna be Daniel Sturridge knowing that you're someone that's had a history of health problems, your probably going to be playing no more than twenty twenty five minutes, at least in the Premier League per match. You get chances for glory and you're gonna get. I mean, that's other thing about being a sub is that like when subs get on the pitch, especially attacking subs, they're not fucking around. They're gonna shoot the ball. I mean, that's what they're there to do. Yeah. That's why storage actually tried that. Audacious shot because he's on the pitch to try to score a goal. No. Other reason it's not for tracking back or being defensively responsible. So yeah, I mean, it seems like a perfect row for him. In one, I would presume me be happy with we'll. Yeah, but I mean like that also presupposes that happiness is a constant state. I mean, like if you're. But mean. Yearbook. Just saying, like, I mean, if okay, it's the same thing that Ryan was just now saying about, you know, if you if you're coming on and being an impacts of you keep scoring every time on the pitch. The same kind of happening with me she batch y. is that you want more opportunities elsewhere. You wanna go to Dr doormen and start. You wanna go to Valencia and start. Like I mean. But also like bats comes back to whether players will into except a different role. I mean, like Lucas Vasquez should have after playing PS g that one game in the Champions League last season has been like, yes, I am the new leftback or on the new wingback and I should play here all the time. Even though I am technically a winger or whatever, like you would think that people would be happy to take what they can get. But I mean, if you can get more you're going to try. I do think I do think that Sturge might be kind of the perfect has case for this for various reasons. 'cause right, you know phobia better had success kind of as a starter was part of the Liverpool team, the homeless when the Premier League couple years ago, mostly black. That experience out of my mind though, don't know anymore details beyond that. And he's also had injuries basically every year for probably the past four seasons to like there's maybe even an argument that like if he was starting every game, he would probably get hurt anyway. So like if if he's convinced himself of that want to West Brom and was like, fuck, I was playing for West Brom last year, and now I'm back on Liverpool and is definitely making more money at Liverpool than he would make it any of these other teams. He's kind of like the perfect guy, I guess that you could convince that this role? Yeah, is worth two and maybe if it keeps happening, then it kind of trickles down at other teams start doing it. So patient zero, I think I just disjointed full by saying storage is better because actually I think Jermaine Defoe has the most goals of any Premier League subsitute ever was Jermaine Defoe at the BT awards. Actually, and I should mention too with my own club arsenal watching them. It's like you're seeing United Marie, forcing Lucca Zet an Obama Obama Yang into the same team. When really one of them should be the second Stryker as in a substitute, and they could kind of like switch based on who's doing well that day or what the team needs against the position. But because of Mike, I guess you kind of alluding to professional pride or athletes always wanting to play. Emory has been starting a bunch of games with them together and it just doesn't seem to work. And if one of them were be willing to take a seat on the bench, I think it would be for the benefit of the team. I don't know what you guys think about that. Yeah. I mean, that's also just buying in which is of really protracted cliche or whatever. But at the same time, it's like if you can get a bombing to agree to start the games where we need to stretch the field in Lucca Zet can start the games. They need to basically combine and exports face has races in the midfield then yeah, that would work better for I am racist. But I mean, part of being a striker is wanting to be on the field and score goals over everything else, which part of being a manager is keeping your team happy. It's a delicate balance. One. It's like lock is that didn't go to the World Cup, you know? So that's like, okay, the euros are coming up to. I wanna take another kind of sort of bit part role is that in his and probably not make the next France team. That's kind of another tough tough thing. Yeah. Yeah. Bringing it back to United the fact that Josie doesn't have settled starting eleven because we mentioned wolves, and you know, Santo has the same. Eleven all seven games win. When you have a settled eleven than than you have super subs. So you have people that come in forbid parts and they know what their roles are for that, but for for United, everyone's everyone's. So it. So it. Is is the super cell. Guys to draw on your own playing experience of, do you think it's harder? I don't know how you know like what metric you would. I mean, I guess just based on feel, I guess, is it harder to be substitute in soccer than it is in other sports? Yes, because you basically have to the thing that everyone will tell you when you're jogging on the field. If you are a sub is or your coach will say this to you as your as you're going on his matches. Intensity matches intention, which is like the most annoying thing to hear, but also it's just kind of like part of playing as growing into the game, like very few people are good, like right off the bat, right? You need to touch the ball, right? So your head has to be like in the right space. We also as products of the vaunted American youth soccer system, we never really played in environment where the subs were limited. Like we never. Got to fully experience the like you come on in the seventieth minute, and everyone else in the field has played seventy minutes and you can just run. But because that that in theory should make being sub soccer easier compared to other sports because everyone is way more tired. But I think playing top, it's probably a little easier to kind of get the feel of the game. 'cause you're only really involved in the final phase coming on as a center, mid. I think he wanted to get as many touches as you can to start an even get like a couple of bad touches in and then get beyond them. Yeah, at least that's the complicated mental gymnastics I would go through when that happened. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. When when we talk about super subs or when people in general referred to them, it's always strikers attackers because to be super, you basically have to score or change a game by scoring contributing to a goal. And that's inevitably going to be someone in the Ford end of the pitch. And on that note, I mentioned the most exciting player in the Premier League and Ryan. O'Hanlon do you have your stat of the week for our man from wolves idea trial ary stat of the week. This week is dribbles per ninety minutes. Pretty simple players that you dribble by adjusted for a ninety minute rate. And number one of the Premier League among players who have played at least one hundred minutes is Adama trae Ori with ten point one. Wow, round of applause for Dhamma trial and who's in second place. Second hazard at three point, nine. Of course we're we're saying ninety. I don't think a is even barely played. Ninety minutes total. This hundred sixty nine. Oh, okay. So hundred sixty nine a stand corrected, but it speaks to our point of like the minutes. He's playing or way more effective than a guy who a guy playing a full ninety minutes unless just give it quick. I'll give a quick bio on Trower you know our boss Bill Simmons always talks about if martians landed in watched a random sporting event. Like would they be able to tell who is the best player on the field? And Troy is someone that if martians were watching a football match and they saw him, they would be like disguised good. And I think it's for myriad reasons. You could say it's the blonde streak in his hair could say it's how fast he is. He's amazingly fast the fastest player in fief in nineteen for what it's worth. He's. You might also like MAURICE Jones drew. Has like a ballerina. I have. I did a little research on trout. And would you believe he said in a recent interview quote, haven't lifted a single wait, no chance, no shit. Jake area just being like, yeah, just do yoga, and you know, and drink a lot of water. No soccer player has biceps that big like, what is he? Where would he have gotten those ups from. Prince who is smooth all the way down to his ankles gets to say that he has natural strength. The craziest thing about Traore eight not to step on your bio info is the he came through the Barcelona youth system and he's Llamas, you'll least Barcelona player. I think in the mall. From what I read. He was actually born within sight of camp. No, so FOX Spain should call them up. That'd be awesome. He is Spanish of Mali in descent. He actually hasn't been kept at the senior level by Spain. I think the latest is Molly are still trying to get him to to represent so awesome play for Spain. He pressure game. If he came on. He played mostly for Barbie, but he did actually make at least one appearance for the senior team at the key came on for neymar. Actually, he then went to Aston Villa played a year in the premiership with under Tim Sherwood actually have a quote from Tim Sherwood at that point. Chari was a teenager and Tim Sherwood says of that time, quote, the players didn't wanna play with them, but nobody wanted to play against him either. And I think that's. That's. A little bit selfish with the ball as a lot of teenagers are also have to say on ESPN NFC's listed at five, ten one sixty eight pounds, which isn't that far from my height and weight doesn't seem like that's accurate either. Now. No shot. He's at least one eighty one eighty five. Yeah, gotta be and he's not five ten either. He's like five, four. So he's basically a swo- feel cut, right? I mean, he runs crazy fast. He'll own ball a lot, and his end product may have been lacking before, but I think we're seeing this season Mark improvement. He's twenty two only still and I think speaking of, you know, back to the subs thing, I think they're manager Nuno Santo has been saying or not saying, but you know, implying, I guess with his his usage of Troy that he's better fit to be a sort of change of pace in the sixty. Fifth seventy th minute. When defenses are tired and they don't want this bull running at them with the ball, if you were going to build a impact substitute, this would be exactly what he what he would look like. So do you think he would be less effective as starter eventually speaking to all what we've been talking about before is a domitory gonna wanna be sub for you know his until his age, whatever. I mean, he's twenty two now. At some point in the near future. I'm sure he's gonna wanna start. He started twenty eight games for Middlesbrough last year. Five in the champion in the championship championship five goals? Tennessee's. STS had seven point three dribbles per game, which is still fucking insane. Actually, I would advise anybody to go to YouTube and just Google or search his name compilations because his dribble highlights are fucking insane. If you watch, if you just watch hot, he's probably the new there was this guy Muhammed's the Dan. I don't know if you guys know that was who do the. His highlights were like the craziest shit I've ever seen, and I didn't understand how he wasn't good at soccer because I'd never saw him play because this is back when like goal TV didn't even exist. Charis like the new version of that. Like if you just watch his highlights, you'd be like, this is my says, there's no way there's a layer. Yeah, but he definitely is gonna wanna play more, right? Yeah, that's only natural, especially if you are like a flashy take on all players kind of winger maybe once wolves or in the Champions League, they'll be enough games going around for the get. Some starts thing though it'd be better for him to start for obviously his personal brand and fame probably for his wages. But as far as like his level of impact or how he can help the team, I think he's better sub. So there's the rub if you if you really good as a sub, eventually you're gonna start. What's the kind of the ideal for this to continue is for wolves to keep doing really well, because they're having a really good starts this season and for him to keep having a pretty big impact, but not like such a big impact where he's scoring two goals off the bench every time. So Nuno can be like team's doing well. You're doing well, this is working and it's not too much. Try Ori. Impact off the bench. But yeah, it's like if Sturges kind of the perfect sort of history to kind of convince him that the sub roles, right? I think charges being so young as the exact opposite of that, right. I will on that note, we'll take a short break here and come back with a look at Europe. Support for today's ringer FC comes from rang. Cristiano Renaldo, of course, the event superstar is involved in a story. I broken by the German publication Dir Spiegel. It's a rape accusation by an American woman semi from an incident that occurred in June of two thousand nine and Ryan. I know you've been following the story a little bit. Maybe you can break down some of it here. Yes. So back in two thousand nine, this woman, Katherine, my orga reported to the police that Christianity Aldo head raped her in Las Vegas than she eventually settled out of court for three hundred seventy five thousand dollars and signed a nondisclosure agreement. And then last week Spiegel published a piece speaking to Katherine my aura about this and she wanted to come forward void the nondisclosure agreement. And she. Felt compelled to tell her story because of everything that's happened across the world with the me too movement over the past year. And now she is, has filed a civil suit against Cristiano Renaldo for damages related to the incident for another two hundred thousand and the Las Vegas police have harm it yesterday. 'cause they're so there are no, there's no statute of limitations in Nevada, I guess, or Las Vegas. As long as something is reported to the police within four years of when it happened, and she reported a right when it happened yesterday. The Las Vegas police department announced that they were. They didn't name either person that name her or Cristiano Renaldo. They announced that they were reopening the case and investigating the report. There Spiegel has a detailed report. They spoke to her about this, and there's sort of a lot of very unsavory details about the incident that if you wanna go look into that, you can Cristiano Renaldo himself literally called this fake news in an Instagram post. And his lawyers have said that what they're Spiegel is doing is a legal. The libel laws in Europe are much stricter than they are here, but it is a credible accusation and the police are investigating it. And I think we're kind of just gonna follow this as it develops. Yahtzee will keep an eye on. I think it's interesting the time line of everything because the incident happened in two thousand nine. I think there's Spiegel caught wind of it from some documents released by football leaks, and did a story last April. And then they reinterviewed or finally secured interview with. The accuser Maya last week and it hasn't really been covered at all in the American present till this week. I think Wall Street Journal was the first thing Alec times at a story today, think part of that is just the international aspect of it. It's a, it's a crime that happened in the states, but it's with a Portuguese footballer that lives in Italy and it was broken by a German publication. But I think as the days are going by and more publications are picking it up, it's inevitably going to be a bigger thing. And so as you said, will be keeping an eye on it, moving onto the football, Spain, Lalita. Some kind of us is happening at the top of the table all throughout the table bar, San round, Madrid, lost in the same week for the first time in three years. I don't know what's going on the guys who actually watch the league and then they tied both of this weekend. So and then they tied both in this weekend, so is let go at. Oh, it's Boston rally, still one too, but severe let it go Bettez. They're all knocking on the door. People often think that lollygag is a foregone conclusion, right? One of the two major clubs Barsa Madrid are likely to win, but is it more wide open? I think the way I would look at it is that it's going to be a little more exciting for a little bit longer into the season than I guess. Typically we would expect from Barsa in Madrid, but I think it's, it's still it's still I would not go any. I wouldn't put any thought near betting on team than reality to win. I think the interesting thing is that they both kind of been tripping out and tripping up alongside each other in it. I think typically when that happens, one of the other, the other team will build a an early lead in the title race, but we did I, I will say, I talked a lot of shit about athletics, Madrid over the first two weeks, but now. Have twelve points and are in the top four only two points off the lead. So I mean, it's it's definitely way closer than I would've expected. But I think even if you look at the sort of betting markets in the percentages on like five thirty eight while league is kind of the league where the expectation expectations have deviated, the least from the start of the year, which I guess is interesting because I guess at this point you would have expected Madrid and Barcelona kind of have distanced himself from the rest of the league. But I mean, it's. I still think Barsa is probably the best team in the world just has the the array in sort of versatility of their talent is unmatched at this point. How about Josie to replace velvety while what do you think. Pudding. Bernard of taken off the jacket. Awesome is I mean, just just for fun and shits and giggles though I did see that overdoes a Valverde's on the hot seat. I mean, I mean, I'm sure that's just a spurious Spanish newspaper rumor. But you know, Boris's Barsa they shouldn't be losing to the team at the bottom. I mean, the bar, Madrid managers are always on the hot seat. Our view basically Devi if you win only two out of the three games that you have and various competitions that week, they're already rumblings. We add, it's like Barsa one all IGA by like, or they finished ahead of Madrid by like it was seventeen or fourteen points less year. That's a ton of points. But I think Madrid won the narrative because they won the Champions League. Still didn't really build up any goodwill by doing that somehow and also legs. DOD won three consecutive Champions League titles and decided to walk before being fired. But I think the other thing is that so severe kind of romped against Madrid last week, and I think severe kind of it looks to me like they're back as kind of the clear fourth best team in the league again, which which is kind of interesting considering. They had a ton of managerial people last year Monchy left and everyone kind of expected them to fall apart without him. Just signing the next best player every summer. So name a couple players on severe right now. I don't even Veneta. Andre Silva is the big one. The array he's gonna shitload goals this year. The Portuguese via who washed out at at Milan and did he. I don't know if even made Portugal's World Cup team after he did. He didn't play in just though after being like the guy that Rinaldo requests, he was the Benza of the Portuguese team. Basically Hayes Navas as well is actually like doing really well which I don't. That's not surprising. Kevin Camaro. Well, actually, no Kevin, Amirah got traded Valencia. He was running rampant today. Raffin against United the. Who else is have been yetter still. All right. The United killer. Even Zonza still there. He's on Roma. He's on Roman, got a ton of players on the via this is. Really showing our expertise here guys, the players via football club. Still there. He's probably he's the best player in the team. And Ben mean they'd be the w all remember then yet or every. Yeah. Simon, Simon shar? The Danish guy with the long blond hair who I've been waiting to actually be good for while there's a lot of Danish guy with long blond hair at this. Okay, Mesa and Alito to Premier Li washouts who I guess just went back there. Alex doll who's used used to Barsa francophone who's who's sort of an up and coming Argentinian. There's no lake young superstar. I would say on the team which is which is also interesting. The. Andre Silva goal renaissance is kind of what's driving right now. Quickly then to the Bundesliga similarly, in some ways to lower Lita thought of mostly as a top heavy, if not single team league. Byron Munich has been struggling a little bit there. Last results they drew with Augsburg lost to hurt the Berlin. Surprisingly, the table now stands at with Dortmund atop Byron seconds, hurt the Berlin. Third, glad back. Fourth is Byron or buyer not gonna, win the league this year, fired all tied with a Frankie diong lists I XE today. So. I think I think Byron still gonna win. 'cause I don't. Think the doorman is actually that good. I know that they're undefeated for wins. Two draws. They've just they're very weird team who don't take that many shots and have been had basically been pulling results out of their ass until winning seven zero last week, which is kind of flattered all of their sort of underlying numbers and even their their goal differential. But I think I think it's a combo of Dorman running a little hot. I think. I don't know. I don't know if Niko Kovac was someone that I was like, this is a guy to take Byron into the next level. Like he's just kind of a Stewart of talent, and the team will probably be fine and win because they're Byron, but he's not like, you know, Byron head, I mean doing crazy shit and that it was enchilada. The God of managing ridiculously talented teams that you have Incas who's like the Byron legend, you know, and following them up as been kind of tough. I mean, yeah, there's a Fonda Davies though. Yeah. After after after pep left to end and tally was there you remember all the grumbling from the players about basically, is this what a training session like here under you or whatever. I feel like this is this is a walk in the park. And I mean, some reports have been coming out of sport Bild about how mats hummels and several other players are just kind of not really taken with co Vagit style of managing team. We kind of his team's always. Like overachieved their expectations, but he was kind of a slightly more defensive manager, which I think we're seeing that when a top team hires a defensive manager at ends up going poorly. For the most part, the Croatian Sean Daish. I. Affair because their second, but I keep thinking of Moi's going to United, but Byron is so much better than else in the Bundesliga. It doesn't matter. That's way too harsh though, like they're, they're fine. The messy as you guys a question about Dortmund because listening to English podcasts or football shows the way they talk about Jaden Sancho is the way we as Americans talk about Christian pulisic. Curious, if you think those guys are buddies. And if so, I mean, obviously there too young people on the same team ones, English ones, American, I think it would be cool if there was a reality show, starring Jaden and Christian. Should I pitch for ringer films? I mean, obviously I would watch that when Jaden their cold crisps Christian. I mean, so. A bunch of a bunch of footage of Jaden Sancho, explaining British slang to Christian passage that can be part of it. There's a picture of the three of them together at training from what I can see here. But I think part of the issue is that so Jaden Sancho is basically just another version of what we were talking about earlier. He's a super sub. I don't know if he's he's played one hundred twenty minutes in the Bundesliga this year, but he has five assists. Yeah, that's what they've been talking about how he's been, you know, gays lightning, the super sub who doesn't score but creates teammates. He has like key passes seven point, five per ninety minutes. The second best on Dortmund is to. But like a sister a little noisier like that depends on a lot on your teammates finishing the passes that you give to them. And he's a lot lower in expected assists than he is actual assist. But I think that what I'm getting around to with the statistical digression is that it's interesting because they're both competing for spots in the starting eleven adds a wrinkle to the reality show. That's true. That's frenemies. I, I know in like the stats community, a lot of people are like whispering that censures just better than pulisic. Fuck this. I really have no basis to agree with that, but the fact that you disagree with it, I agree with it sank. Sanchez, the odometer or of the bundle. Folks with the name heavily though. Jaden Sancho. It's just this sounds cool. It is cool. Yeah. We're going to close. Finally here with a look at Syria, not really a look at Syria, actually, because you've is going to win the league as we all know, but a specific player in Syria, he plays for Genoa. His name is christoph- Pia TEK from Poland, twenty three years old. He's currently the leading score in Europe's top five leagues, eight goals in his first six games, and it's actually twelve goals in all competitions because he scored four goals in his debut in the COPA Talia, he was bought for just four million pounds from ks krecko v over the summer, and he's now valued in excess of thirty million pounds in rumored to all the usual suspects. I think, city. I don't know who else Spurs. I saw a couple of names being bandied about. Seems like a United player players. I think Poland has been waiting for a true heir apparent to Lindau sqi. I mean, this guy didn't even make it to two thousand eighteen World Cup. He was in the preliminary squad, but didn't make it. Presumably he will be in the national team in the nation's league and the next year rose. But have you guys been seeing anything of him or watching him? His goals can continue this hot streak. I'm sure Ryan will say no hate to be that guy. He's an he's an interesting statistical case because he has eight goals, but two point nine, five expected goals, which is if he continues to do that, he's going to be the greatest soccer player of all time. But he's also taking a lot of shots. He's over four point five, which is really healthy number. So I think it's two things. It's like, no, he's not gonna. Keep scoring at this crazy rate, especially when you add in the COPA Talia goals that you mentioned. But he is getting a lot of shots and for young player. That's that's almost sort of the most important thing. So I think I'm intrigued by him as like a guy who could be pretty decent striker for the next decade. But I'm not like, oh shit. It's the polish Imbaba. And on that note, this episode will come to an end. Thank you as always Ryan and mica of Johnny. Everybody should watch Liverpool man city on Sunday, and we'll see you in two weeks. Ace.
LADS#157 - Villa is Back, Valverde Out, and Fan Questions
"Ooh. No, no. No thing. Today is Wednesday may twenty ninth twenty nineteen. In Aston Villa is back in the Prum. Oh man. The Clarence Tom Hanks, stoked, he tweeted about it saying that he'll be bleeding the Clarence colors which everyone gave a big who arrived about, it's cool. I love win like big name celebrity support teams, such as villa, I think shack is like supporter of like Sofer city or something some league three team in England, like that's really cool. So now that as Bill has a rich historic history in the not in the Premier Li per se, but in English football history. So nice to have them back, man. I know there's a lot of people who are going to be haters of me saying, oh, you didn't want Darby with the wrong with the ABI, like, like I really like Martin's more, a bigger Darby guy than me, one of my best friends, Paul who I married, I've mentioned before in the show is a massive Aston Villa fan, and I was there last year when they lost out on the play offs, and he was in his full, like retro villa gear. And he was just like so sad. It was the day of the Champions League final. And I didn't even watch the game because I was getting prepped because that's when we did our live show, four lads at tavern on broad. So I was very happy for Paul. He's an awesome dude, and shutout. You know, Dean Smith when he took over villa, they were what was it? I think got this acid front of me fifteenth in the championship went on unreal. Run fifteen other it was like fifteen points behind. They were fifteenth in the championship. That's unbelievable. Jack religious, obviously, they're mean star wearing of you didn't see in the championship. Match was wearing his like lucky boots were Lert, which was literally torn the shit. So I saw a bunch of memes about that saying, like next time like your son is or daughter is saying, I need new kicks need the best kick because the only way, it'd be a good soccer player just exhibit, a Jack relig-. Unbelievable. Unbelievable season. For villa welcome back guys book. Yeah. And if I didn't mention before I have the shortest memory of all time, memento I think I said that Martin is not going to be here. He's exhausted. He's working to double. In the garage, or some shit, working on his dukes of hazzard Oakley cars, pistons rods nuts, and bolts, he no cars. So it's just me where does it gonna be real personal to guys just mean you hey, I'm glad to be here. So let's open up with this. The to the biggest rivalry of all time Josie Marino. Arsene wenger. Okay. Now all time are going to be commentating the Champions League for beyond sports. Guys. Do you know what this means, like this is Larry lightning in a bottle shoutout to the guys at bien sports forgetting to guys who actually were exceptionally successful managers and know their stuff, who literally hated each other's guts for years to put their like, you know, squabbles, aside, and work together, the like, I'm not going to be able to see this come to. I will literally go down the darkest rabbit hole of read it darker than those Garfield fucking Catholic dark, comics, read it to be able to watch Josey Marino, and Arsene Wenger, just go at it. I'm not even sure. Because I've read that their whole beef is like squash now. So I'm kind of concerned like oh, I won't like like slight jabs at each other kind of, like, you know, when Paul Scoles e would like, you know, do like sly jabs, even Gerard about not winning the league Marino. Do. Couple of those, like, yeah, what was your record against me? I don't know. I want that. I want that Seoul bad. I don't wanna listen. To, you know, Bleacher report football, Steve Nash, even though they do great job. They do a great job. I'm not saying it's my ex maybe because my expectations were so low for the Bleacher report squad that, you know, the fact that they're even you know, some, some type of competent great. They're doing a great job, but they're not going to even come close to Arsene Wenger, Joseph, renew. Are you kidding me? And I don't want to listen to BT sports. I'm like, I don't wanna hear all these fucking ex United next players just bitch about, you know, how these players have bad attitudes. Like fuck off, like Ozzy. I'm not talking about their playing careers but you know, would want us. Great manager, the only one, I can think of is Frank Lampard, but, you know, he almost led his team to a who's not commenting anymore because, you know, he's doing he's winning doing a bang up job with Darby and oh, I forgot to mention John, Terry coaching with ASA villa back in the high drives. Yeah. I was really stoked on that are sowing Josie hanging out in the booth. That's awesome. Also, there was a charity match, if you have not seen this picture, it is Arsene Wenger, just leaving, Don four dead in the midfield. This is a real photo. We posted on our social media, last podcasts, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, go, follow right now. It's unbelievable. It's an all time or I may frame this. I'm not sure just daily motivation, guys never give up because one day you could just, you know, do a deadly turn onto the Anza. Dan? It's in, like Arsene Wenger is so skinny may because he's wearing those puffy coats for so long. This dude is literally skinny bones like a nice. Breeze would take this man's knees out, my God. This is a bad look for is done. Hm. Maybe you know that list of best managers of all time came out and are some winger sold as Don was way, higher than them when a little revenge. I could see that. I'm kinda just hopping around guys. I'm just on social media right now just trying to figure out like some, you know, big things going on in world soccer. Oh, I mean, the Europa league finals tomorrow. Holy shit. I guess there's talk about that. I mean those kinda shit show which going on coup in that country. I can't pronounce Osibisa John as that's actually probably the closest ever come to saying that. So I guess I should do my preview for that. It's gonna be interesting. I'm not sure about the health of a lot of the players. I know I believe Nagoya Kante has come out, or he hasn't come out, but essentially, the medical staff of come out said, he's fifty fifty I think could be massive because our midfield is pretty depleted. Right now at arsenal. So Nagoya Kante doesn't play that'll be huge vantage to arsenal because I feel like he would just tear up our midfield at this point. But I don't know the way a bomb Yang luck is that have been firing on all cylinders? They've been clicking so well. But then again Chelsea at the end of the season. I mean that's why they got a top four spot. You know. So I think it's going to be I think it's going to be a really close match. I really didn't give this match as much as I want to just getting all hyped up for the Champions League final, which has an arsenal fan is probably, you know, bad, look, my part bay, I'm just being honest. I haven't really taken. I've been more fed up with the whole like Mickey Taurean politics, the whole thing, and UEFA not giving a fuck to actually take the time. This is what you, did you Eva Mamie. Not even think about the sport. His point is the make us all about the sport. And now all I can think about is politics. This is ridiculous. Today. Some cop was chasing some guy down. We're in Mickey Tori. Jersey in Baku like I got him a Boston man, John. Look over your Johnny, Johnny. I got him. I got me Qatari and walk in the streets of Baku God. Uefa fucker you doing? But if I were to give scoreline is even biased. But I think arsenal this Emory's competition bright undefeated in this competition. I don't know that actually, but he want a bunch of severe balmy block is that playing phenomenally together. It also depends what's Mets Ozil going to do. I think that's the real like, you know unknown in this game. So that'll be kind of concerning also could be, you know. Chelsea also livid dies on how he didn't has our plays because he will in. It's just a fat sausage man is running around. Pick pick pick. Okay. I'm gonna pick pick a winner right here. Arsenal to one it's gonna be close. Has are definitely gonna deliver goal. I think a bombing lock is ads hookup is just been to deadly. I like they're gonna overpower the back line even though like Louise Ruediger have been pretty nice as quite a obviously, Chelsea backline is kinda underrated. I feel like they don't get enough talk. Even though it was not their best season. I think they did. Okay. Indebted Louise for some reason, who I thought was done in his career revitalized by you know, Antonio Conte and other. You know, saris figured out some way to use them. I don't know. I think it's gonna be a very interesting final if you had a gun to my head, I would say arsenal, but I think it's really a flip of the coin. This could go either way. But I think the experienced by unite Emory in these big game situations is going to come through. So people say a bias, I don't care. I live in dial. Nece. Okay. What else is going on? I guess we are the Champions League final, but will probably save that for Thursday's episode or Friday mornings. I mean. Oh, this was big news. Okay. We'll talk about this switch, switch. Switching gears a little alita. I'm gonna talk about your claps comments in a second to about pep Guardiola show throwing a little shade. But Roberto Martinez is currently the favourite to replace or nest though, vow Verde as the Barscelona head manager. Wow. Wow. Guys, I a question. What is Val? Verdes legacy is a good. I mean, the guy one of domestic double the year before, and then one loudly, again, this year back the back LA Liga titles. Is that a success? I don't know like if feels in the big games when they have the leads. I mean, the COPA del Rey, total fuck up against Valencia. Oh my God. The scenes shot the that was a I think it was fun. Yeah. Phenomenal fans. Rich history. That was really cool. But again, messy can't do everything man, like I think, is a shoe in for the bounty or this year. But this over reliance on messy on every team guys, like I get at once in a lifetime generational player. I think he does serve some of the blame for some of the shortcomings. But I mean you just can't just put all the way on his back. I mean but back Valverde. I mean I don't think you can sitter his tenure success. I mean, I think of Barcelona. I think it's just assumed you win LA Liga at this point every year it's about the Champions League and to. Go against a Liverpool into have a lead like that. And I know Liverpool this liberal side is going to go down as one of the best sides, probably ever. I mean I don't know. That's a hot take. This is very good. Eight I would say in a Liverpool squad, but I have a lead like that into give up four goals and not score. At least one with Lino messy feeling messy, earliest guaranteed one. Go, you couldn't do that with that demand of talent at that squad. I'm going to say it. I think Valverde's tenure is I wouldn't say a complete failure. That's harsh. I just think the guy was very unprepared for this position and understand what kind of expectations he was going to have. So let's switch over to Roberto Martinez. Really this is we're going with we're going you're going from Valle Verde to revert though, Martinez. Okay. So he's currently managing the Belgium national team, he used to get his asp handed in at Everton by the big six also by Liverpool losing four nil. What is are is? Are you going higher? I just staying the same. Like I feel like what you're trying to get a new manager or a new player in your always trying to go up. I don't see that as, as an up, upper projector the word is this just seems kind of the same, especially he's going from national to club. That's like if you look at the track record of, you know, national team coaches going back to club. It's not good. Not great. I don't know. I'm not the biggest fan of this. I think Barcelona may be making a mistake say, Roberto Martinez is going to win. You is he's going to when you of games, just based on the fact that you have Lino messy. They're going to spend a lot of money on like Antoine Greenman, most likely. That's the big one they're saying they're going to get a lot of players in so he's going to win a lot of games. But in those big games against Liverpool's against the man cities against you. Vent is the bar. Munich's even PS, g even though they're the ones who always, you know, seem to bottle it. I'm just saying. I don't think this is the right guy. Am I crazy? No. I'm saying. I don't think he is the right manager in these tight situations when when the players start getting tight and the pressure is on. I don't think you wanna look at your sideline. See Roberto Martinez standing in the managers box. So. Vertu Martinez giving all worked up today. Well, this is going on. I'm just looking at memes right now. Oh. Hop over to ESPN FC. They posted the quote, I don't think it's like directly from them, but they are posting urine clock. Apparently like hot, you know, taking shade as, as they would say, this is the quote from Liverpool manager, your Klopp. He says pep has to say that winning the Premier League is more important than the champion seed as he hasn't been to the Champions League final for awhile. Ooh. Yikes. I mean, I know Klopp is just joking here. And I love your Klopp. The guy has, you know, some all-time quotes at the, you know, at the press box. But I think you know. I think you're cops in a tough position to be making jokes like that, as someone who has an exactly one silverware at Liverpool. And this is thinking shot at your club where I think he is the favorite to win the Champions League. So this quote is great. But if he loses the championship final to Tottenham I don't think it's going to age well at all, and it's probably going to be the first memes. Ic-. But I see what you're in clubs doing. I think it's more it's more joking. Obviously, I don't think he's really trying to take a harsh shot him, especially since he is his contemporary in the Premier League right now just him like one a will, obviously one. And then, like, you're like one b I mean, very neck and neck, obviously, this is this is one of the craziest, competitive Premier League seasons of all time came down to the final day. I don't know of Klopp is in a position to be making those type of jokes, but I mean, fair show. I mean, the guy you know, he live in he'll live and die by the she he says, so. A lot of people are like making, this are taking very serious like the Twitter verse. I'm just saying like. Maybe just, you know that's not like you know, the top comment is says the guy who blew a ten point lead in lost all six finals. He's ever been in. Frogging t- emojis. Fair point. Brady, fair point. But God, damn of your clubs smile doesn't look great in this photo. Oh, this is pretty big news. Two I'm still on ESPN AFC's, Instagram. This just doing this podcast straight from Instagram. We guess a fan questions, which I'm gonna get to shortly. But I just forgot I didn't have time to write notes. And when Martin told me last minute that he wasn't going to be able to pot. I was like, all right. Fuck it. We're you know what? You guys demand content. I'm gonna put it out there. Yeah. So do romo's was trying to force a trade out of unav-. It's forced to trade or. What it is. But he's trying to get the fuck out of dodge out of Madrid. So apparently he was trying to go to China. Florentino Perez came out and said that he came to his office and said he had a very good offer from China believe rules permit them the pay the transfer fee Real Madrid. This is this is Roberto are Florentino Perez. He saying Real Madrid could not afford to let its captain leave for free, as they would set a terrible precedent for other players like on the guys just trying to you fucking paid. He's paid his dues. He's one yes. Shit on the trophies. Come on. God, Peres will be his own downfall, man. I mean, the already has been, especially like the Rinaldo fall out and other players fall out. Like I mean obviously Real Madrid is unbelievable. The won three straight Champions League, which will probably never happen again. Like unbelievable club parades. Some of this shit, he does man makes me go bonkers of, like okay that makes sense. Nice one. But like some of the stuff he does. I'm just like this fucking idiot. God. What else we got going on here? Oh, nimoy got the captaincy. Denny Elvis old asked I love it. Love it. God neymars just been on such a down trajectory hasn't he? God is even relevant. I know he's obviously relevant. He's one of the best players in the world but playing league when he was injured a lot this season. A moment that you remember from the season from neymar at all all I can remember so him like rolling for days in the World Cup clearly getting touched. And he wrote all the way to Timbuktu. Man. What happened to that guy? All right. Well, that's enough rambling, you might forget any stuff going on in the world. Let me see here. Oh, thanks for asking guys. My hand is okay. No hairline fracture. I know you guys are worried. I got into that serious car bike accident. Crazy bitch. Try to kill me but he can't kill love or Kevin. Anything else going on the world note. All right. We're gonna do fan questions before that we're gonna break for quake ad run. Now. Sub guys. I really do. Hope you love listening, lads. I swear it'll change the way you listen to podcasts. All right. That was the ad. So guys was he's van questions. First question comes from our Instagram from Biard, exc-, K Brock. He says if everyone hates FIBA anyway, wire, people, why are people so anti euro Superleague? Oh, that's a good question. Dan? Dan, brock. I guess we're against it because I feel it'd be unfair to the other teams. But then, again all these giants have a monopoly on the other leagues as well. I had to sit on that because people have been just getting on my last God. Damn nerve that, honestly at this point, I might be up for the Super League at this point, just take all the top, you know, three or four while I was Premier Li top sixteen th Roman a big Super League and see who wins at the end of the day. But then, again could like the PSC's man cities then have on that super ship. Is just like a. Bad domino? Effect it. I don't know. I don't know. That's a good question. If everyone hates UFO, why are people so anti yours Superleague? So I should explain the super euro league would essentially be if you guys have never heard of that is that you take all the top teams like fire Munich PS, g you've Ventas Barcelona Real Madrid. And then pretty much the whole top six primarily, and then maybe throw in a couple of other teams. Like I let it go Madrid. Napoli. I don't know. Fuck, I don't know Syria, maybe Monaco, and then you just make your own league like all, like twenty of them, and that's it. Hm. You know it sounded pretty good. Brock. It is sounding actually pretty good now that you a phone fee just like I'm like this is what you've cost, I think this is, I'm thinking of, like totally. You know, breaking the wheel deniro style, and starting just a whole new type of soccer league just fucked premier like book, LA Lita league. This is what you've you've brought me to, and I hate it, and I hate myself next question. Nikolai RV a says what is your score projection for the Champions League final, and who is going to score? I think I did my early prediction for this. And I think I said, Liverpool three one hour to say he's going to score it's going to be money. Of course. Saleh. Then. Think like for beano someone are now probably Virgil Van Dyke Virgils going to cement, himself as the best defender in the world by you know getting a nice big strong header in the box from a quarter. And then Harry Kane healthy. No. Yeah. Maybe like a cheeky late goal by Lucas more give Tottenham. Hope I don't know. Donna. I'm like, I don't know who's how the who's her who's, you know, naughty or nice next question. Chris says who's winning tomorrow arsenal? Chelsea. Why do you think so? I'm saying arsenal. Again, I talked about this earlier in the pod just because Emory's experience ah bomb can lock that have just been on absolute fire, and then I would probably say like a drawl in the penalties of Nagoya Kante like I don't I think both teams are so even but again gun to my head. I'm going to go with my gunners. I think Emory has the right stuff to make this happen. All right. Let's hop over to Twitter follow Atlanta underscore podcasts. Hons win at Mr. wins. Twenty eleven says there seems to be a pretty good chance LeRoy Sanni goes the buyer in the summer. What do you guys think? Yeah. I think it's definitely a big possibility. Byron obviously losing our Robin, Frank reverie, then either replace replaced, her wings, LeRoy, Sanni in an out of the squad getting a starting spot in Manchester City. So I think it's I think it's very likely. I mean, also LeRoy Sanni being a German national team player will like to go back to his home country, most likely, and I it's like every, you know, German boy's dream. The play for by Munich, the biggest German club in Germany. So I could see, I think it'd be phenomenal on the wing. Oh my God. Just crashing down the left wing and on buyer Munich feeding bowl Linda goski, and like the audio feed him. Oh my God. I think LeRoy Sanni would just, you know, the transition would be unbelievable. Next question at high press pod. Four twenty good friends of the show, have had on the show, says name your favorite actor slash musician and what position you'd think they play on the pitch. I e Jason say them, he's five ten hundred eighty five pounds while he doesn't research for this looks like he could be a midfield destroyer a rough and rugged Senator defensive mid think, like Rajon Golan. Name your I think who's my favorite actor. I would probably pick. Actor. I think my favorite actor of all time has to be Daniel Day-Lewis, but he's not exactly like, you know, I mean, the big name in terms of acting, but not like super Hollywood guy. God, my left foot and the name of the father, gangs of New York. Like a phantom thread, fuck me up. Do you guys? I'm a oh my God. There will be blood God. I love Daniel day. Lewis Lincoln, I have like all his stuff on Blu. Ray God last Mohicans. All right now, actually, I'm gonna pick. Yep. I'm gonna go with Daniel day Lewis. I feel Daniel day. Lewis is just a creative central tacking. Mid can work in all different directions can do so many different things on can score can assist the so much maybe like a center like kind of like his savvy. Yeah. I like that. I like that a lot. Yeah. I'll pick a musician name your favorite musician. That's tough current musician. Man. Is a bad debt air? What I've been listening to lately. Listen to a lot of rap probably pick picking rap. Listen, a lot of gang Warren G like some old shit. Man gangstar be a fucking thug man. He fucking centreback. Oh my God J of kid LAX? Oh, what a tune your would probably pick that would be. Yeah. Gangstar in my back line. God be absolute terror. All right. Sorry. I lingered on that because that's a very good question. I'll probably hold onto this question, because I'd like to see what Martin would say. Next question comes from our discord, channel. Where would you? This is from Logan. Oh, yeah. Our channels chat rooms come hang out. Sometimes it's a cool place where cool guys who like to show talk soccer, other sports. Beer, TV movies. It's just a great chat room guys who are all like kinda similar and kind of different. First question is, where would you rank Rinaldo right now compared to the world's best now after last season? I don't there's a big argument in our discord channel about that. I have in my top three players in the world. I haven't met number two still this. I don't know where this narrative Renaldo hates coming from people putting them baba Eden hazard Virgil Van Dyke above him. If you're telling me, I had to pick a player right now after messy it would still be Renaldo like messy is still my number one. But that's just me. I mean, I know a lot of people over Nado, messy either changeable, and I get that. I understand that. I'm not upset at that. That's your opinion and valid one and like, you know, and some days, I do think that sometime. Well, we're not as is. The best in the world. But this slander I mean like the go to event as go when another league title with them. I know his stats are all down. But in the thick of it, I still pick Renaldo over it. I still haven't been the top three there's people saying, like, oh, he's like a fringe ten player putting him through six to ten. I think you're absurd out of your gourd. Next question comes from the drunk. He says, why don't you ever go to fill union games? They're actually good this season. LL actually. I was supposed to go to the game today, actually with the free kick pas disappeared on their show. Go check them out the free, kick podcasts, but I'm actually I feel so bad. I had to cancel last minute. Actually, then, mommy, back, my money, which is really nice and them. I was trying to now I feel dick like and they're Tyler and Todd awesome. Dude, from Baltimore big Phil union fans, I'm actually going to go see the book of Mormon with my aunt tomorrow. Her boyfriend's like about to be deployed, she'd be really sad. Like we made these plans months ago. And I totally forgot. So I'm gonna see the book of Mormon it's going to be sick. But I would like to go to Philly union games before I move up to Boston. The are crushing it shout the Jimmy curtain cringes. Mic basketball says, what's the most ridiculous transferring you've ever heard? Honestly, our first podcast when name got transferred to PS, gee, I could not imagine. It makes sense. Now in hindsight, by could not imagine leaving messy Suarez when they accomplish the travel done so much him going to PSE. Whoops, fuck that one up. Ridiculous transfer rumors. Oh, the whole messy demand city thing, had a lot of hype bef-, and I never believed it not. No. Not one bit that was ridiculous because Pap in, like he was getting frustrated at Barcelona. Now he's gonna live and die at Barcelona. At least that's my opinion that, but that, that was a very like a lot of people are saying, oh, it's a lot of man's city fans saying, we're going to get messy. I'm like new. You're not. That was a pretty in terms of recent time that was pretty ridiculous transfer. Rumor. Boarder Boyd R M says what team has the clearest path to cracking into the top six who's most likely to drop out? What he probably we're talking out of the top six probably the wolves, I would say the wolves for sure. And most likely to drop out, I would say Chelsea. I'm not trying to be Chelsea hater. But like no no new transfers saris jobs up in the air. Other eating has or might be leaving Nicola Kante. I think he decided to contract. I'm not sure if there's seems a lot of disarray going, and they just made the top four by Philly. There's a lot of disarray going on at Chelsea, and then probably also Manchester United as well. Those will be my two, who would most likely to drop out by don't see the see the top six in the same. Norwich City shell field. United and ask them villa who stays up in who gets relegated. Thank you cringes. Mcmaster ball. There's been a new precedent where teams that come into the Premier League have stayed up and like the majority of them say up, which has been kind of cool. If I had a gun to my head, I would say ask the villas coached really, well, now if they keep their core players, like Jack religious say, I would say they say up and maybe Norwich City also says because they're recent experience in the Premier League. A lot of veterans on that team Sheffield United. I don't know much about ought to say them. So. Yeah, so I was scrolling down. That's all the questions guys. Okay. I really don't have much else to say this kind of a short podcast, sorry of a little like now, exactly. Our best work. But, you know, you just got to roll with the punches man, Scott to hang in there while I was really cheesy. All right. Well, we will see you guys Friday morning. LADS#174 - Saturday Special featuring Rui from The Red Card Report
"Oh No no no no thing oh come into the Saturday special podcast. You're listening you today. I'm joined by Rui from the Red card report. Yes they are as soccer podcast. I believe that right. I don't know I stuttered. They're like a little bitch anyway. Rui is gracious enough to come on the show talk about his show and you know enlighten us about some premier. Li Talks Ruby. Thank you so much for coming on the show. How are you doing? I'm doing great man. Thanks for having me on yeah. No I'm very excited. <hes> we you know have interacted onto social media like twitter verse World Epo Some Funny Shit so let's start there. Your show is the red card a report do with Joe and Dylan correct. That's correct and you're also located in Providence and now located in Boston so we're pretty much new England brothers now right. Can I say that yeah I mean I guess you're an honorary to England under now right. You're originally from Philly Yeah Yeah. At least that's what I like to tell people. I don't like to tell them actually from Jersey but yeah we'll go Philadelphia and did you actually go just a quick question. Did you go to the Liverpool via game. That has happened here at fenway now. I didn't make it <hes>. I really really not a game. That interested me that much because I I hate Liverpool with with my entire heart wasn't easy Milan fan. I can see why <hes> yeah I mean they got us. They got US real good in two thousand and five in two states still hurts but I hate them for other reasons <hes> yeah I kinda like him as an arsenal fan I really don't I can go either way. I know and you know the soccer world England like everyone. He's Liverpool but you know you this. Everyone hates the popular Kisii school or do they like him anyway. Your show is the red card report podcast follow them on twitter at our CR underscore podcast so I want to start there. Tell us a little bit about your show. What's the dynamic lake <hes> you're obviously an A._C.? See Milan and Porto fan correct. Yes that's correct so talking about the dynamic so you have dylan in Joe. How does the show work? What do you talk about how often and you're on itunes spotify so if you are listening right now bupe subscribe download the follow them <hes>? It's it's definitely worth your while so we go right ahead. Talk about your show yeah just to give it a little bit of a background <hes> so dylan is the moderator and the producer of the shadow. He does all that it again all that stuff and he asked us all the questions <hes> Joe he's a huge event is fan and him and I bet heads every now and then when we're talking city but <hes> you know we we predominantly focus on Syria and the primarily but we also like to you know provide our audience all the analysis all the all the current news of the the top six leaks and <hes> when when people asked us what is the top six leagues. You know obviously obviously the top five is the E._p._l.. Alita Bundesliga French league <hes> and the Italian league. We also like to add in the Portuguese league interesting okay so elaborate on that so L. A. Portuguese league is is a great league. You know the top three teams sparkling fecamp portal they produce great players not just within their youth academy but also from players in South America. A lot of lot of great talent has come through that leak so we like to give our audience you know a little bit of what's going on in the Portuguese league because I feel like it goes under the radar and every single year it's very very competitive always goes down to the wire usually between Portland being fica Kosovo. It's trying to set a little bit more to to the football world. Actually you're a perfect guest because initially when I was going to do this show I was GonNa Talk Premier League and some drama Gareth Bale into those are Kinda like it's it's mid July so there's nothing really to talk about aside some transfers but I feel like this transfer window has been kind of predictable kind of Dole. There hasn't been a landmark crazy. We all Kinda thought you didn't has are going to Madrid and you know like a Grease Mun. The Barcelona was kind of shocking but not not back crazy. I actually WanNa talk to you about Syria then do you do you feel comfortable talking about that. Yes Louis because our listeners we mostly talked about premier league and I feel like we have a ton of people like messages and tweet us comment being like guys. GotTa Talk Syria beyond me and more and you know we spent so much merely. We don't make time for Syria which is an amazing league so there's a lot of new faces in Syria this year you have sorry you're GonNa Tonio Khantay at Inter Guitar so still at EC Milan correct <hes> No. It's a jump outlaw. Now is the I don't even. I don't even know the fucking manager so rudely. What are your thoughts going into? This new Siri off season obviously event was making some pretty crazy moves <hes>. What are your thoughts? <hes> you know some <hes> <hes> preseason predictions season prediction <hes> you know right now. <hes> event is looks really strong had a little shaky game against interred <hes> today they wanted penalties. They face each other out in. I believe it was in China. <hes> you know those who are really bashing heads before they will actually was mostly the Inter Inter Milan fans. They were treating this game like it was the fucking Champions League final you know as a garment yeah it was a Jar Bay but even screen yard the the leader of that defense was like this is more than just like a friendly and whatever they were taking it way too seriously and you event is just casually drew and they won in penalty shootout but <hes> yeah they look <hes> you vent. This looks really really strong. They just they just have so much depth than all positions now is it's it's really scary and I think they're going to be one of the one of the favorites to win the Champions League this year well. What do you think about this need going around around? That delete is the new Phil Jones tend to comment on that. He's definitely not to new Phil Jones. This kid is for real is absolutely for Real N he has. He has a really unique trait and leadership at such such a young age <hes> I remember. I believe it was last season against P._S._v.. I believe it was the first matchup they lost and he told David Harris his own teammate to just you know applaud the way fans you know. Don't walk into the locker room with your head down. We have have to show respect and the way carried his team. Throughout the season because the editor visa just went to the final like to the final match of the season to dictate would be the winner of the League and you know he played a huge part in that and also taking them all the way to the semi finals in the Champions League. I think I think you've got a real real gem in their hands. A what do you think about the argument that that's a lot of mouths defeat. I mean there is so much star power <unk> in terms of death on that team. Now I do think it's going to be difficult for story the manage trying to get a lot of playing time for each of these players <hes> yes and no I mean it's still early in the preseason so events they still have a lot of time left to ship some players out and I think they're still not done as as crazy as it sounds. They're not done shopping yet so they're gonNA ship out a few guys to bring in some some revenue and trim the fat off that wage budget but we shall see as the as a preseason preseason goes on and and the transfer window comes near to close <hes> is going to be a lot of a lot of action being taken at EU Ventas Yeah I if you were to say there was a team that could overthrow event is is finally after seven straight. Years isn't now of winning Syria Eighty eight yeah God damn it you see someone coming out and you know dethroning them is said <hes>. I'm a big Antonio Conte guy so I wanna see what he does. Enter <hes> Roma's obviously in their Atlanta is an amazing story. They're very fun to watch. Is there any team. Do you think has shot. I mean you event is so stacked right now. Is there anyone you want. You could come close <hes> this year absolutely not the closest would be Napoli <hes> but in the long run it's definitely going to be either inter or a C Milan that will end the day and we'll say as a homer are you no. I'm being honest because I mean Inter Inter just ended their Bantu era where they just went so many years just making the wrong decisions and and struggling <hes> A._C.. Milan are on their way out of it. They've been making the right decisions this off season and even in the year before last season they had a decent squad but they battled so many injuries that really held them back and they were only two points away from a one point away from being in the Champions League <hes> so they're making the right decisions but it's still going to take time. What do you think since we have an A._C.? Milan Vada you are I ever A._C.. Milan guess out. You're just now Lebron A._C.. Malang guest really I'm sorry but what did you make the banned from Europe like that was pretty shocking news. <hes> where you like upset like tell me what was going through your head when you got that you know probably bleacher report update yet well for the record it really wasn't Aban <hes> a Similan after they got knocked knocked out of the out of the Champions League position within the Road Lake. They may negotiations with UEFA because they've been under F. F. P. Watch for the last couple of seasons so they said you know what will we wanNA. WanNa make a deal what you guys just kick cus out of the UEFA league this year and you know give us like another year to balance our budget or kind of end this whole thing once and for all so it was more of a negotiation both parties agree to it so that's actually she what a C Milan wanted so right now. It's a short term <hes> embarrassment for the club and for the fans and you know everything that has to do with that money as well yet. They're gonNA. They're gonNA miss out on a little bit of that that Europa League revenue but for the long run. I think it's it's for the best I will have to say <hes> I was doing my research which is little to none but before we started the show I was on your twitter in your top your pinned twee is a game of thrones soccer mean which is my favorite type of mean and and it's the one where it's the <hes> dragon shooting down on the night king just spoiler alert and it's like fair play and then the NYC emerges in its P._S.. Jiemin city. Do you feel a little jaded that the Jiemin said he just walk around. Rounded can get away of spending boom. Go Bucks in like nothing. Don't even get a slap on the wrist <hes> yeah I mean I actually posted a picture. Oh I think it was like a while back. Ago is like a mean similar to that and it it was a picture of one of the one of the characters in game of thrones being burnt alive from the fire from the dragon and I put a C Milan on the guy that's like burning to death you know in you know in response to <hes> A to B S G and Man City and all these other guys that are just like spending a ton of money on players but <hes> yeah when I look at that it's just you know even if seaport was under F. F. P. Watch a couple of years back and they still are under under the microscope and just you know you're kind of taking out the competition. You know I don't know if you if you remember back in two thousand four one four to win on that like majestic run all the way Champions League final go ring yeah. It's it's almost like what Leone ended in two thousand ten and I exit the season. You know it's so hard I it. They're making it even harder to do that for something like that to happen you know and A._C.. Milan and Inter Milan they've they suffered dearly because of f. f. the and you know and you have all these other teams that are just doing whatever they want yeah. That's why I really loved this Champions League. Even though the final kind of suck it was very boring but leading up to we had some of the greatest semi final quarterfinal games I've ever seen in my lifetime and I'm going to be completely honest with you really and that's why I thought the Miracle Not Miracle Ron I mean they had a great team. I asked but I feel as though you can appreciate that even more now because the speed of football and their budget being like what like twenty a million not even compared to say like Ventas which is like three hundred million or whatever it might be <hes> do you think that is going to become rarer and rarer and when it does happen. We're just GONNA have to appreciate it even more. What are your thoughts on that? He's small teams like like Monaco when they had that crazy run when bopanna them we're so they're like all right <hes>. Do you think that's going to become even rare rare or do you think there is still we're going to have some of these quote Unquote Cinderella Stories Yeah I think we'll we'll we'll continue to see see those teams every once in a while you know sometimes sometimes these teams that that rely on that money ball system which is producing young talent and selling them to the to the bigger teams. That's how these of these places <hes>. I'm sorry these teams survive nowadays so occasionally. You're they're gonNA. They're gonNA breathe a good squad every now and then so that's going to happen but back in the day it used to be two or three of those smaller teams that would really you. You know that would really push against the big teams make noise and the Champions League as I mean it doesn't inform Monaco also went to the final that year and they were not they were not projected and and <hes> deportee WLAC Rooney made it to the semifinal. Oh Yeah we're like Greece winning the euro's and what two thousand and two like those crazy like Mir. I mean less their city just a few years ago like we're just GONNA have to like watch. Some of these things happen to be like that will probably never happen again right in this day and age of football also also I love that you brought up moneyball. That's like one of my favorite movies which I get a lot of slack from from my friends. 'cause I like those like bat in the social network or like to my favorite movies like Kevin. Is there so boring. It's about analytics and facebook. I'm like dude like dishes crazy like I think it's this kind of the coolest shit ever so really. I'm going to transition over. Thank you for doing Syria Talk. I think a lot of our listeners are going to really appreciate that because they're like come on and we're like we're just we don't have enough time and you know I think because now you can watch Syria on E._S._p._N.. E._S._P._N.. Plus now. That's where you can watch it in America Yup which I think he's actually pretty good deal. You get a lot of games. I think it's like four ninety nine a month or something like that or yet for ninety nine and you can even catch some edits V._C._A.. Games you know. Would you like watching teams like E._S._p._N.. Fi play. I believe they're on it too in some international of friendlies and competitions you can watch right on there too. Wow <hes> I shit on E._S._P._N.. A lime you do a lot of grace on E._S._P._N.. A._F._C. and sometimes the league when they ranked <hes> what's it called event is fifteenth in the world. I was like what that just like Kerr. They put they put board through at number to shock the Shaka's top ten list came put forth number two. I mean I was really happy but I mean come mindless be serious. Let's get real. Come on so let's transition over to some drama. I wanted to bring this up. Just a hot topic about the Gareth Bale Don Saga that's going on in like people are thinking. This is fresh news. These these guys have not liked each other for awhile since Dan has come in. He's not been in his big picture. What have you made of the whole thing because for me? I think the Real Madrid fans have been very hard on the treatment of Gareth fail but I just want to get your opinion on it. Real quick yeah. I'm not a big fan of Gareth earth bail <hes> simply because he's just you know he has a really performed to to expectations are of course yet he he's had a good he's had a decent career at Real Madrid but the last couple of years when he was on squad he's just I don't know something is just not right. It's he makes a shit ton of money more than more than anyone in the league and it's it. It's crazy how he he wasn't able to fill in for Renaldo shoes when he left to events. Events I mean this past season was really really terrible and I was disappointed. Because I was really looking forward to watching Real Madrid play see how they would do without Cristiano Renaldo and I thought I thought Gareth Bale would be the guy like he came out. Swinging in the Champions League final scored an unbelievable bicycle kick and he's putting another one away even though it was a goalkeepers era but you know he looked like he was really determined and he said after the game you know Real Madrid could have seen more of this if I was was able to play more and he had the opportunity last year and there it is like we saw it was pretty disappointing. Yeah I mean I I studied in Wales. So maybe you know gear fail fan. You know go dragons <hes> but yeah I think you know the injuries and he's not been the best with Spanish media which can be harsh. I mean sometimes it's even harsher than the English media which is always regarded as like you know the worst so but I do think the guy has done a lot not as you know when expectations is Rinaldo who's going to go down as a top ten player of all time if not like the goat in some people's eyes. It's it's really hard to fill those shoes and I definitely thought you know real. Madrid is GonNa take a step back after he left but not to that degree would you would you agree. Oh absolutely I mean just a to fill Renaldo shoes. You know you're at you're asking for a lot and <unk>. Obviously everyone in world football the realm the mother these out in Madrid. They knew that you're not GonNa get the same you know you're not GonNa get the same contribution from bail as you would with Rinaldo but they they were expecting being a little bit more and while tag as well which I will defend Gareth Bale net like he did. Not You know like you get paid what someone's willing to offer so I don't blame Gareth Bale for the wages or anything like that. That's just my opinion though oh no of course I know you can't blame them for that. At all I mean he's GonNa go there and and make a deal in if you want ex and they're willing to give him X.. Then you can't hit you can't hate on him for accepting that that deal but <hes> you know now this one thing that I really didn't don't like about Gareth Bale's how isolated that he is around his own teammates how after six seasons he so not even able to understand Spanish yeah those I was Kinda fucked up. I was like come on. I was in Spain for a week. I'm bringing up. I'm such a fucking study abroad kid of not just WANNA go. You know I said a week in Madrid and I was like I'm already picking up some Spanish. How are you there? Christian Pulisic went to Germany and learn Germany in like six months exactly yeah I don't understand that at all and that's that's the culture of football players in Europe they go to a country they learn the language and they communicate with their teammates. That's why I always loved like Joseph. Marino arsene Wenger and other managers who speak like six or seven languages that blows my mind where I can barely speak English like that shit is wild like the be able to switch between or like Paul Paul but you ever see his interviews he gets asked like Spanish speaking French and then English and it's also just a silly articulate like I'm like I am such a fucking heathen. Really let's switch gears. Let's talk some premier. Li Do you have a Ethan Milan poor defense. Is there a team in the premier league that you favored you like yeah. I like Manchester United and I kind of over the last couple years I've I've jumped a little bit on the Wolverhampton Bandwagon because I am Portuguese so all those Portuguese players here's a Portuguese coach the manager all that stuff so <hes> I always keep an eye on them and I hope that they do well <hes> <hes> so going into this next season city or the favorites and then right behind him as Liverpool and then you have the rest of the cast <hes>. How do you see this season playing out? Do you see Liverpool finally getting that first title and like over what thirty years or so now or do you see city doing a three peat because I think those are the only two options at this point. I don't see Chelsea Tottenham arsenal menu really coming close yeah now. I I totally agree it. It's GONNA be tough. I think it's going to go down to the wire again like it did last year. <hes> Liverpool Man City they're they're gonNA be locked and loaded and and and it's GonNa be whoever's the last man standing practically so <hes> between those sue. I think I'M GONNA go with city. <hes> they have a more complete team in more they have more depth but when it comes to Europe I would definitely take Liverpool over them. Do you think that's because city is better over a longer span of time and Liverpool in short bursts can just be anyone on any given day. Any team can be anyone any given day but Liverpool is just that much better on a on a two leg affair <unk> yeah yeah I think you're I think you hit the nail right on right on the head <hes> but I think <hes> I think it has a lot more to do with how <unk> pool has that Champions League D._N._A.. And in the League it's they're kind of like what Real Madrid have been over the last fifteen years where they just predominantly focused on just the Champions League and the League. It's like a whatever that will just place you. You know second or third. Make sure we have a Champions League spot for the following season but over the years Liverpool's history is just Champions League Champions League Champions League. They have six of them. That's third most all time and that's you know that's their bread-and-butter just like Real Madrid. It's the Champions League were Barcelona. It's more of the League so yeah I think the Champion the Champions League D._N._A.. Really does does play a factor because when you when you're a player you walk into to <hes> to <unk> Livable Stadium. You know you're you're hoping it yeah it's intimidating and you're you have to live up to not just not just the E._p._l.. Sanders also European standards for so much history so much culture of just winning in Europe there that it's crazy it. What do you think about the argument that I I've honestly I'm going to be really? I saw this on twitter and I was like I was disgusted. I saw Liverpool fan say like even if we win the Champions League back to back. I would still prefer the league like that's that's just insanity right like I saw that I had to draw. I almost dropped my phone. I was like this. Are you insane like I get it your champions of England. It's been a long time but you are champions of fucking Europe. Yeah you're basically king in the world at that point yeah lane in Real Madrid's argument like yeah. We've been just champions of little bitches for so long so like what I have a couple of friends that are Liverpool fans and Dan. Obviously they know they know that the Champions League is you know the cream of the crop isn't going to be all that's it you know that's the title belot of of a football but they've gone so long long. Without winning the league they have never won a premiership because they switched the the English football league to the to the premiership in nineteen ninety two. I believe it was ninety three around that time ninety two ninety three doesn't matter yet and the last time they won it was in ninety so are they never won a premier league and it's been so long it's been a generation a generation and a half of not winning the week so I can understand where they just want to win that that that leak and be the the kings of England yeah I get that but at the same point it's like dude like you have probably the second best manager third-best manager in the I think your club is absolutely phenomenon. I don't know how I love him so much. Put a pep in him like one and two and then after that. I don't know like crewed yacht pod. She got me the thing about the premier league. We're Kinda spoiled because we have such great managers right now but I don't no no I feel as though Liverpool should be satisfied with a great European campaign after coming off like diverse English team to win since what Chelsea in two thousand twelve so I'll for Spain has just been dominating Europe for so long and you know I've been always one of the boys trying to defend the premier league saying we're still the best but it's hard when you know Spain just keeps winning. The Premier League are winning the Champions League sorry and win the Champions League. They're winning. They're open league. Exactly like severe. Severe is a great example won like three hundred nine emory which we don't have to talk about him but actually I do want to talk about man united. You say you Kinda like them. If there's a team you support it would probably go towards united. What have you thought about L.? Soak showers tenure in <hes> you see that there is a good future for the club. <hes> Sulk Shire did the best that he could. He did the best that any manager and I mean any manager in Europe could ever do <hes> even Modina when he was there. I I always defended wooding defended Soak Shire when things went south with the both of them. I believe that this is a board issue. The main issues definitely the board and also the mentality of the players at Manchester United <hes> Visiting oiled legal spoiled entitled Cocky and for Absolutely No God given reason at all and it pisses me off. I'm now you know a die hard man united fan but I do like watching the primarily and I do pull behind Manchester United and it pisses me off in that because this is the this was the biggest club in the world at one point. They probably have the biggest fan base in the world but there's no longer the the biggest club in terms off anymore. <hes> they're not they they fell behind Barcelona and Real Madrid this year and it's sad to see the direction of that club and the players that are leading that locker room when everything was going great when they all WanNa play they can ball like Manchester United has plenty of talent they can be in the top four or they could even finish in third place if they wanted to play at their absolute best all the time but this mentality issue and when things were going great with Soak Shire this team looked great and when things started falling apart Soak Shire just you know he he told the how it was these players need a reality check. They got too comfortable. I think that was a big part of it. Yeah I think so too. It has to be that because I I don't know how I I just don't know how you can just be so hot. emplaced so well and then just die off a cliff and even some games where they drew in and loss. It looked like they lost you. No desire they had no heart there was no fight and it was it was embarrassing. 'cause this Manchester United when I when I look at players when I think of Manchester United I think Paul scoles I think of Robbie Keane and Michael Carrick Rio Ferdinand vintage. You know these tough tough players yeah gigs. Absolutely you know these tough you know engines <unk> at work so hard and look at what they have now. It's just great talent great potential but the attitude is just not there that mental toughness is just not there the fame winter their head. You know what happens to the best of us. That's what do you think about Chelsea altron. I'm avoiding arsenal at all costs. I don't want to talk about that team whatsoever. <hes> what do you think about <hes> Chelsea. You know new manager Frank Lampard coming after a pretty successful season Darby got Christian Pulisic Nick. How do you think they fair with? Transfer Ban seems they're going to be using a lot of young players. Do you see Chelsea heading in kind of a good direction. Yeah I think so <hes> you know the these all have a pretty decent team. <hes> it's a rebuilding year and probably the next year too so I think what their main objective this season is trying to place in fourth place third place <hes> and get that championship spot you know they they were still able to get pula sick back in January before the whole transfer ban and they managed to get Kovic to who did pretty well and Pula sick is a great talent. He's no hazard that's for sure but he will. He will get an uplink time and I think thank you produce and contribute well to Chelsea the season and also I'm excited to see callum Hudson. Oh Joy I love that kid and I think he can be really something special in this league now that hazardous out him in him in Pula was sick if they're not playing one of them will and I'd be really really excited to watch both of them. Play I honestly I want to be completely honest with that. I was kind of pissed off like I don't WanNa see him in a Chelsea Jersey and then I did during the preseason on like fuck like it's going to be awesome to see him week in week out in the Premier League like opening match against Manchester United. I really hope he starts like that's going to be such drama and action like in the season only like what like about the two weeks away like fifteen fourteen days away. I'm posting this on a Saturday so I guess a will be like about two weeks away. So we're you know coming up on the season really quick <hes> i. I WANNA end this with a couple last minute questions. <hes> do you see any other crazy transfers going down before the beginning of the season for everyone. Do you think like his name Marquette done. Is Paul believe like what have you been hearing or. What do you feel as of right now? <hes> I I believe that Hamas Rodriguez <unk> while he's definitely leaving around Madrid but believe it or not yours truly a C Milan has jumped in to the conversation with Oh Amish Rodriguez. This happened about an hour and a half ago zero two hours ago probably and you know they're interested and they're trying to steal them away. From <hes> <hes> from Athletico Madrid and Napoli already pulled out because they didn't want to pay his claws. They didn't WANNA pay Real Madrid upfront front so it could if these are true I think Real Madrid would prefer to sell to see me Lon if they can get the money forward then sell it to us to their crosstown rivals Athletico Madrid so him him Gaballah. I think maybe on the move athletic also Yeah Athletico Madrid is definitely interested. <hes> reports came out today saying that debate would accept a transfer but it would have to be outside of city <hes> he does not want to play in Sydney opera anyone so and Paul Papa. I think he's pretty much out of there as well to kind of measure. Where do you think he lands Real Madrid? Oh Wow fuck Real Madrid so despoiled Goddamn. Honestly I'm not trying to get my Real Madrid fucking high horse right now but like this the stack so fast and you know I guess I get it. They have the name they have the prestige trophies but maybe I'm just suggested Arsenal fan and my former glories behind me <hes> really <hes> I just want to say thank you so much for coming on the show <hes> make sure to check out the red card report. Caught Offside: Man City-Liverpool and everything else
"Caught offside with Andrew gummy and JJ Davani. Paul side from the Upper West side of Manhattan, Andrew Golding and J J. What's up brother spent a long day? Oh boy. Serious tone. Nah, not really just a bit flat after that. Okay. I understand that. Yeah. Yeah. You're gonna be alright you can be able to get through this. Thank thought at the for menial equalizer. I felt good and felt good about where liberal Liverpool rat. But it was also where that city were playing with an intensity in a. I don't know the city paid very well unsorted. I don't think ever put very badly. And that's where you're like. No. It seemed like it was a genuinely good game like a fun game. There was a lot of action to like it was played at a pretty high level. I would say, and like you said you got that from, you know, equalizer, but ultimately it all led to this stunning. Spike. Brilliant. Wasn't it? One was your final Manchester City jumped back into second place Liverpool still four points out ahead. And I think that's kind of what you I would say this to all Liverpool fans that you do have to remind yourself. I know that that's a gut wrenching loss because of the a the way that it went down. And we'll talk about some of the specifics of that. And be I know you disagreed with this when I said to you before the game. But I truly believe that if Liverpool had won today. And maybe even if they had gotten a draw the league, it was over that they had that they could have essentially wrapped up the league in my mind today on January third. Yeah. And they have not right now, they have not, and they have allowed Manchester City some life, and you know, so I can understand obviously, why a Liverpool fan would be, you know, pretty crushed at kind of missing out on that opportunity. But. You have to remind yourself is. Manchester City included there's not a club in that league. That would not trade places with Liverpool right now. No obstinately. And and that's the way to look at it. I guess it's just you're so wrapped up in the. As a fine you start. I couldn't look beyond people were telling me, oh, we've got this good rolling games. After city. We've got you know, where were we should pick a points, etc. Etc. And I'm like, yeah. But we've just lost the city. You know, I was so focused on this game. I mean from halftime against because because the game was was such a a wash your already thinking ahead and. Yeah. It's just it just feels so flat now, and like I said in the context of the game. It was a little bit over him back. I actually I actually thought Liverpool. They weathered the early storm of city, particularly well, say storm sit he didn't create a tone early on. Although I thought they started the brighter the two teams and then Liverpool high by chance that incredible manage where it hits the poorest comes back. Johnstone's rattles. It off Edwardson on it. Somehow doesn't cross the line. And then I think city dominated probably the last ten to twelve minutes of the half and score. And then you're worried because city commode the traps hot in the in the second half. And then you get a brilliant acquaint brilliant equaliser on you're like, oh here we go. This is what we've been seen from Liverpool, and it just never really kicked on as good. As Saez goal was. I couldn't believe the acres. He found himself in. I'm like is anyone getting across inaugurum is an excellent Ron to kinda pull Trent Alexander Arnold away. I'm looking at Manny Manny doesn't get back on his nowhere near getting back to covert. And I'm just. Yeah. Especially to we talk all the time about American football. People always say a game of inches game. Ventures at such a cliche. Has that ever applied more to anything than this Liverpool? Manchester City match today when you talk about I mean inches. That's not even doing Justice centimeters millimeters away from scoring that goal. Like, you talked about the Johnstone's Edison. I think it was in. I Liverpool would've had deservedly had the lead. And I think that it would be interesting to see ho ho city would've reacted now. Haunted city react to the equalizing goal excellently. And I think the death principles of we talked about before it, no really did come to the fore. I you can talk about the tactical. Approach of city, which I thought was very good. They kept the two fullbacks of Liverpool occupied on Starling against Robertson, really gave Robertson something to do going. The other way he wasn't allowed to marauder forward as much as he would have liked that was really good from pep Guardiola. And I thought you know, there were good innovations by bolt managers in the game. But the real thing was that city. A did not allow Liverpool the intensity day grabbed and sees the intensity straight off the early opening tackle by furniture, new on Robertson was a case in point. He's gone right through. He's a heavy, touch and he's gone right through. And he's left America on Fernan Dina was excellent hundred. He was really great. He reminded me Roy Keane in that game. Not as hyper as he dominated that game. He drove city forward. He won't. He won the the ball back in several occasions. I'm with broke up play. Was excellent and sit he did what I wasn't sure they could do under guava your which was it's not just about pressing or closing players down. But that aggressive turnovers that Liverpool was almost the Mark of Liverpool against them not season. They didn't allow over to do it in this game. And that was crucial. Yeah. By the way, going back to that opening near goal for Liverpool. The one that stones managed to clear off the line. I know this is not the moment you wanna hear this. But I was as I was watching that. And when they showed the actual zoom in that they do of the ball of like just how close it was to not fully going over the line. I was just looking at that and thinking like in in this world of like sporting innovations. Like is there anything that has been more beneficial to a sport than the goal line technology in this sport, nothing because I'm sure that would have been given. I'm sure. Passed. It would have been given like and not just the fact that its accuracy is basically like without question. Like, nobody questions the accuracy of those calls ever. But it the instantaneous nature of it. You know, on very seamless isn't doesn't affect how far I am. But I understand it like it can cause that's my whole point about that. It can it can cause a disturbance in a game, basically until we can get the tech to that level on the money issues with fire off and to me, the the the two sporting innovations, and I think it's the goal line technology and soccer and like television in America, finally, putting the first down line in on television. However, many years ago that was to show you where the like those two things are the things I always think of like how do we live without a world without this? I mean, I was just so like to see how close that was and then talking about game of inches. Let's talk about both the goals that Manchester City scored you get one from Sergio Aguayo where he just blasted through the most imposs-. Of angles right near post impo kinda like between Allison's hand. And the the post the second goal Sunday off the inside of the far post. It was just like goals goals that I would imagine for a Liverpool fan to watch. That is just like oh my God. These goals that they're scoring against us. Yeah. I know what you're saying. I don't think it really was. I think that the object of IRA and a focus was DeJean Lovran on the city goal because don't forget Alison made a brilliant eve prior to that ball flying past him and city were knocking on the door. What happened in boats in IRAs? Firstly Lavin was random the line. He pulled out, and it was a wound V one tank fully Alison made the save. And then the bulls recyc- of the comes out, and it comes back in again and grow Golson front of Lovran. And he doesn't react. Are. He doesn't get across. 'cause Andrew honestly when Lovran is getting that bold there. That's where you don't tackle. But you have to get a block in unlock room was nowhere close to him. I saw him one of the match reports. You know, I know sometimes these rankings are different. But a couple of them. I think I saw they gave him love and three out of ten and it was his it was his misplaced head or on the breakaway to believe for sterling. I guess this would be a moment where I would make fun of him for having called himself the best defender in the world. But you know, what I'm going to be the bigger man today. I'm not gonna mention that. He said that and we're gonna move on. I also think the full box. Fullbacks on the Santa goal. Okay. Maybe maybe not on the Senegal certainly on the goal Liverpool. Got stretched and the last thing you wanted was for DeJean Lovran to be in direct opposition to Sergio Aguayo or anyone really you. You wanted that? Nice tight and compact. It's been above masking Lovran since Gomez is being gone. On. Yeah. And I don't mean that in disrespectful way, but it has been kissed because he's not an actual partner for versa Van Dyke. And look even at the Aristotle game. One thing that was crucial for for for Liverpool. Today was this. When city pressed you need, your floated bowl into the midfield earn to that area. Behind the press to be really accurate the arsenal goal. At onfield came from Lovran giving the ball away like that on. I never felt that either defensively in terms of actual straight up won't be one defending Lovran was going to be up to it tonight on I worried about his passing out of the back to create opportunities to get down to feet. And if you look at it Andrew the monta times that the Liverpool bowl bulls from the goalkeeper, I must admit his kicking wasn't great either. But from Lovran to break that press, you know, what I'm talking about. Yeah. Absolutely. Clipped ball over the top. Right. It's gotta be good. And it never was the amazing thing you talk about Liverpool's defending, and I don't want to sit here and bash it overall, we can talk about days on Lovin, but JJ I was just thinking about this. So they gave up two goals tonight to Manchester City in this two one loss do even remember the last time Liverpool gave up more than one goal in a game. It was last season wasn't it. Well, no in on this entire no in in the league. You might be right about here. Okay. Well, because I well overall it was PS g who beat them two one in November in the champion. Yeah. I mean this Liverpool defense it's why they're in the position that they're in. There were the questions about it last season than they brought in virtual Van Dyke and Joe Gomez asserted himself in Alexander Arnold asserted himself, and you're left with this team that still has potent offensive attack. But you couple that with what they bring defensively plus Allison, and it's why they are top of the table by four points. But you're right. If you start removing pieces from that Van Dyke can only do so much right on obviously, the midfield. Three of Milner Henderson. I'm when al-din was picked to be a little bit more conservative because he had more offensive options in that. And he didn't choose to use them. And I I was hoping that they would do more to cover the full box train screen dot. The center half position. But didn't really work out that way, we thought it was interesting. What pep Guardiola said after this match there were people. You know, I said before that I thought this was basically titled decider and it Nate Liverpool may still go on to win the title. I think if you looked at it right now, they probably would still be your odds on favorites to do. So. But this felt like that was it. And there were people yourself included said, no, no, no, no. You can't say that. There's still eighteen more games to play but pep himself said after this match that Manchester City treated this as though it was a Cup final. You could tell. Yeah. The way they flew into challenges. How many times were their taxes in the last ditch? I think it was three off the line clearances by city debt. I mean that was that was serious commitment. Although with one of them Anderson comes for a free cake. I I honestly the goal. Keeping tonight from Anderson was I I thought at some stage he's going to do something. And we're going to we're going to capitalize on it. Andrew across goes into the box. He will. He reminds me of Bruce Grobbelaar back in the day. He'll come for Bali's. No right to get to one of those felt for manual somehow cleared off the line, but cities commitment was huge. I've actually made a note here fifty five minutes indicative of city play. I'm reading what you wrote in your notes yet fifty five minutes indicative of city play silo who's broken away on the right hand side of the Manchester City penalty box surrounded on it was LeRoy Saini who wins it back. There was heck of a lot of work on. There was an awful lot of. I'm sure peps guys guys guys talks were really intense, and he pretty much. Got this team into a state of mind where they knew they couldn't lose. And you're starting to once again, see the thing that we talked about with Manchester City before the season that hasn't quite emerged yet this year, but maybe it starting to their death. I think Kevin LeBron's did not play in this game. Riyadh Mars did not play in this game. Walker who one of the most expensive fullbacks in the league did not or came on as a sub in this game Gunderson came on as a sub in this game. Like Gabriel j Zeus did not play in this game. You're starting to kind of remind yourself that they've spent millions and millions and millions across the whole every position, right? Yeah. Which is funny because we talked about last week how? But then when Fernan Dino misses a match it's like there are different side day couldn't won that game tonight without him. Yeah. I think you're right. I really don't think they could have he was he was. Excellent. Now, I should say company was was good. Generally. Speaking company was good tonight. But I think companies career. I mean he had to come off. He was he he'd stiffened up so much struggling with that calf. You've got to wonder and his tackle you should've seen red for the tackle in my opinion on Sada. And that was all because they did not he could have no part of being in a leg Rhys leg wrist, but Mohammadzadeh on he he basically admitted as much he had two options go to ground and trying to open the mind and get the ball or do something. Otherwise, Sada was straighten and gold, and I have to greet your Klopp on that one is not me being biased in the modern game. You can attack like that munching to foot of challenge. Can't do it. Yeah. If they had given it. I'm sure I'm sure pep would a lost his mind. Well, he did. But yeah, I don't I don't think I would have really sat there and said what is the ref thinking he's gotten that completely wrong. I think I think you'd have to understand why something like that would have been ultimately given. Yeah. So we have a total race. We certainly do, sir. We absolutely do. There will be an interlude for the magic of the FA copen, by the way, you have to bring that noise back where it is. You're gonna have to find that. Right. Relax when you do what to watch for. It's being demanded already by who man from southern California who a man from southern California name the name. Rob you made that up. No, all right. Well, find really. Sent a tweet demanding it also showing Ronnie Radford's amazing goal for Hereford United really versus Newcastle. Right. Well, you know what? Now, I believe you, and I will go back, and I will look for it. But yes, we have a tight race. And everybody seems happy about that. Except me. Well, yeah. I mean, like I said you thought you could have won the league today. I wouldn't expect any Liverpool fan to feel happy about it. But you always talk about it's been twenty nine years. And here you are in pole position well past the halfway Mark of the season. I was gonna ask you another question before we move on from this. Where was I? Oh, Paul Merson. I was reading this at Sky Sports Merce. I what is mercy. So here's what Mirsaid I actually have the exact quote in front of me this now this is before Liverpool man city. I read this yesterday. He says this quote if I was Liverpool. I would forget about the Champions League. Now, they have a chance of making history where they would all go down as legends after twenty nine years. They need to put all their eggs in one basket being winning the league. Where do you stand on that? As a Liverpool fan is Gary Neville said that at the start of the season as well. Yeah. I don't know about that. I don't know about it from the point of view of the way Klopp and pep Guardiola. Do approach a lot of things. Now. Do I think there will be players dropped for the FA Cup for sure. But in terms of the Champions League like is can you turn it on and off like that? Can you just decide while we're not gonna play tonight or I'm going to drop players that I don't think you guys don't go all out. Right. You make the decision for them by giving some of your key player. I rest I can't see that. I can't see I can't see Liverpool going out against spare Munich, and no they just I can't see it happening. I don't think it's. I don't think it'd be acceptable at that stage of European competition to play that way as well. Right at this stage. I mean, look what happened to Brendan Rodgers when he wrested players at the about that was so wrong that was so wrong. What was also wrong was that? It was definitely Stevie. Jeez. Final night at the burn abo-, and he was on the bench. So you would. 'cause I I read that. And I thought that is first of all I thought it was selling Liverpool's quality short a. Yeah. I don't like the message it sends to players either. And also the association the club has with with competition with visas in Europe, they've won it more times than any other English club there. It's I don't think the fans would like it. Well, I thought you'd be a little down today. And understandably so, but if I can lift your spirits my holiday gift for you has arrived. I have it with me. Wow. Would you like it? Yeah. Oh god. I hope it's not another crushing disappointment on a day of crushing disappointment might. It's not exactly what I pictured. When I ordered it. Oh here. Let me get all right because I'm tacky lazy to sort of. I don't I don't go for the wrapping. No, if the gift bag, you already just showed you showed me a picture of the gift, and by the way, where is my time in in my wardrobe walked today said so if you warn the sweatshirt yet, I said, it'd be hard to do that considering you haven't given it to me so much has happened in the intervening weeks. All right. So here Lord. Yeah. It's a fictious framed of your of your home. Oh, wow. A framed it's like an old school map of sly go. That's actually really night you like it. All right. Why Lord it's even the old scoots spelling l'aigle? Yeah. With the with the at the end, there's kalani the own beg river Tober curry. I'm where I'm from his on it a Connery. Yeah. And it's got even got mountain and lake maps. This is actually really good. All right. Good. I'm glad I wasn't. Sure. Oh, this is soccer. And you and I really don't have anything else to talk about or share in our lives such a dole. We talk about so many different things even on this podcast kidding point. Yeah. No. This is really good. I'm relieved in a scroll kill glass, while these are all places very much. You're welcome to tweet out a picture of this. Yeah. It's quite I'm glad that that it turned out good. This is hanging up you can prop it up like that. Whatever you want. No. This is really good stuff. That's grit. You feel better. I feel good. Can I can? I just read you what I wrote in my match notes. Jay's is much notes goal. TA Robertson for menial. And then I tweeted straightaway that I haven't felt that good longtime on the worst of joy where did you watch? This. I watched in my office in my cave. It was one of those if I was in a bar anywhere near to anybody would have been how much work was achieved. From roughly three o'clock, the five o'clock eastern time in your office. Huge Mon for the podcast, Hugh. Okay. But it was burst of joy. Yeah. Oh, it lifted me. I don't want moments. We live four those feeling. Yeah. And I don't want to bring it to the bedroom. But I you know, when people say I'm not that mean that was going around. I'm not saying it's better than sex. But I mean, it's different. Obviously, very with that rush dot feeding. Oh, primal, I don't know where coast with every sports fan is felt that at some point. Yeah. Don't worry. You'll feel it again. I know anyway. Yeah. So that's our look at what was the only game of the day. Really? I know there were other games in other leagues. But that's the one we were gonna focus on. I'll tell you what we're gonna take a quick break. When we come back the festive period is now over so we're going to look back in kind of a sign are three winters three losers. Each of us have given to this like crazy time of the Premier League calendar. So we'll do that. Also. Of course, we do have to mention Christian pulisic, there's a reason we haven't talked about that very much up to this point in the podcast. We'll tell you why that is well still plenty to do. Don't go anywhere. It's time. But boy wonder why Christian? Really? Yeah. He really is wonder what point JJ thing about he's twenty years old now, he's almost a man boy wonder watch at some point I think has to transform into young adult wonder watch. It's monica. Therefore, he'll be boy wonder when he seventy only going to show are still being described as the baby fist assassin because he has a baby face is no longer a boy. I if it man if my child had the face of all they're going to share his in his forties. I would be concerned for my child. I would say that child has weathered some. By now, obviously, all of you listening are well aware of the fact that Christian pulisic was sold from Bruce Dortmund to Chelsea for a record fee for an American player Seventy-three million dollars, which is among either the eighth most expensive transfer in primer league history, which puts in with some pretty amazing company. I need the most expensive substitute ever to be. Well, that does raise some interesting points. We're not gonna talk a ton about this. Because I don't know if you guys listening have seen it yet or not up on both are caught off side feed or the ESPN FC feed. But we had grant wall in with us here in studio at caught off site towers for an hour where we talked about almost anything. I think that you as an American soccer fan would be interested in chiefly among those things pupils transfer to Chelsea we talked with them almost I'd say almost half of the time was spent on that. So well, he's got grit insight into pulic having met him interviewed him several times extensive time with him. Yeah. Knows insight out, and we set the table we laid out the landscape for your soccer for twenty nine hundred with ground. Yeah. So I would not and I'm not just saying this because you wanna hide. Because it's our podcast. But honestly, if you're an American soccer fan, if if it was Joe schmo in and Pete Diddley that did the podcast. I would say you should probably as an American soccer fan. Listen to that. It's your Judy. Yeah. It really is. So check that out. Like, I said it's on both our feed the caught off side feed and the ESPN FC feet, but I did want to at least mention a couple of things on the move. I guess the overarching question that everyone has asked us about this is whether or not this is a good thing for him. Now, there's something I heard from Richie of sorry, which kind of caused me to raise an eyebrow. And wonder about that question. Here's what sorry said when he was asked about the transfer appeals coming to Chelsea are you looking to do business in January to bring some new faces in. Yeah. I do know I didn't know anything about Polisi yesterday. Declare basket. My opinion about him. About one month ago. My opinion the Moore's positive today. I knew I ever known that the deal is done. But I didn't know anything. That doesn't sound like I know he said, they asked me my opinion, in my opinion was positive. But I don't know. I I listen to that. I was like this doesn't sound like a man who's thrilled necessarily to have this guy on his team. No, an are that he had full. How would you say economy agency in this signing? No, it doesn't know. No, the modern game kind of operates at a different level. But it seems as if Chelsea are signing Pule sick. That's that make of him. What you will? Yeah. I would've thought you might get you know, some sort of sense of by the way, he wasn't asked about Pacific. That's what am I concerns as he Joel before that question? Six name was mentioned, I cut out. There was a lot of stuff leading up in that quest. Yeah. But he still asked are you doing anymore transfer in transfers in January, and he said, I didn't know in use us Pulitzer because the example of how he didn't know what would be doing. Which is it's important now, it's time at Chelsea football. So there's a lot of uncertainty and. Yeah. I I read that call and I thought okay. Well, this is a man who's just miniaturizing himself with English language. It sounds even worse when you hear them. It's important to point out that fuel sick as he is now property of Chelsea, but he will not be joining him. He was then promptly loaned right back to Bruce Dortmund on you'd hope he'll play. No. Well, I don't really know what what makes the most sense for Gyula set. Like, so what are Borussia Dortmund? What are their plans with this guy coming back there? Now like their plan is if if Sancho or somebody gets injured, I guess, he's an insurance policy. He's he's more. He's someone who can slot in knows the system and can play very well. And I'm sure that it not better for Christian him. Game. But Chelsea wanted what I had read about this was that Chelsea wanted pulic to join them. Now course he preferred to stay at Borussia Dortmund until until the summer, and I just wonder for him wouldn't it make more sense to like get in now. Even if you're not playing right away just to get a head start and get acclimated. So Andrew summer. You've you've already hit the ground running with slice. Anyway, you want. He may not be a regular starter in the team. He is still a useful piece in a team. That's in a championship. Raise is probably gonna win the championship while that's a big statement. He he'll want to be there. Probably what like I said. I don't wanna go to deeply into this. Because we spend a lot of time on our other podcasts today with grant wall talking about that. So make sure you download that. So we'll do our festive winners and losers. So let's do that. We've got from this period of chaos, basically where it feels like you're watching a big game every three days or you're watching your team play every three days. It's it's awesome for us. I sometimes wonder what players managers think about it. As other leagues are going on holiday breaks and things. That. So we've got our three winters three losers. Each of us from the festive period as they call it. We'll do our winters. I you wanna start. Yes. By the way, these aren't in any particular order in terms of just wound two and three. This is my number wound. Whatever you want. All right. All right. Well, because because I'm sure you were I thought we might be talking about Liverpool. I went in a different direction and rewind to last season. I'm sitting on my soul, and I'm watching with regularity Marcus rash for toiling white on the wing for Josie Marino. And I'm asking myself why? And it seems to be that rash. Verd- is one of the early beneficiaries of the Noma renewal era at Old Trafford playing center forward his proper position scoring three goals and assist. Under Oleg or Sasha are ready. Andrew I had key Twitter to bit not heated in, you know, a nice cordial yet back and forth with a couple of Man United. Finds not so long ago under Marino who were like, I don't think rash. I got it exer- what I'm like look aware. He's playing he's got to be in a central position. He's got to play as a striker. He is one of the most talented young despairs there. And he was one of the the main players United who suffered under Josie, marina. I remember him playing right cited midfield against via in the Champions League. Ole Gunnar soldier only had to do was be positive and put them interstate position on. I think rash has already been a winner on is going to go on unto right to the end of the season. Yeah. For my first one, I went a little more broadly than that. I just went with Manchester United as a whole, obviously, you know, we've talked about at length since social took over twelve points from four matches only one manager in Manchester. United history has won his first four matches in charge. Do you know who that was? It was not, sir. Alex Maputo's be. Let's right. He back in nineteen forty six. Not not the. Worst company for social to keep when he came in social he said he wanted the players to be able to express themselves out on the pitch the guy who just mentioned. I mean, does that has that apply to anyone more than Marcus rash ver-? It's it's been like night and day. It's so obvious. That's what's so frustrating. It seems like acts of self sabotage by Marino. Even what you're starting to see from Rome. Lulu Kaku to two goals in his last two games. He had to in his previous eleven appearances before that. And that's not including the matches that he just didn't play in whether it was through injury or whether it was through Marino just having no time for them. And then, of course, JJ there's really I mean, you talk about rash bird as a big winner. How are we not gonna mention Paul pasta? And what's happened within this renaissance that it seems like he's undergone Sincil shires come in. Yeah. I under Marino, you have to admit there were times when we were. I would think even the biggest pod fan was starting to wonder is pot. The really is. He is good as we thought. And I think now there was always that part of you that wondered is it PA. Or is it Marino. I think Pogue in these first four games to a certain extent, not fully. But he's kind of answering that question. I was you know, I was being held back. Look what I'm capable of doing. When you set me free with the four games his most recent against Newcastle. I would say was his least impressive. But that's that's a by the way, a comment. Well, four goals and three assists in these four-game exactly since oh shark came in. He was the team's player of the month for the month of December. Just what were we saying about pug? But during that Liverpool game when he couldn't get in off the bench under Marino. And now he's come in. And he's player the month for them. But even at so them away, he was sold bad. Like, he was a mixture of bad, and you really had that question. You said where you're like might like what did I see in the summer on? What did I see in flashes over last season? Like what where's the real Paul? Right. But I think we're starting to see him. So all right. You're number two winner on the twenty first. To November twenty eighteen Alastair. Mcgowan wrote a piece for the BBC with the headline gambling firms to review number of sports betting adverts after public concerns. It went on the remote gambling association whose members include three six five Labra, potty power and William Hill said it was very mindful of public concerns, and then another piece in it, which just threw me away in. This report was blew me away was on a further report Wednesday stated the number of children classes, having a gambling problem had quadruple to more than fifty thousand in just two years. Now Williams saying all these things Mike Christmas football. Andrew was utterly dominated on television by advertising for betting companies every ad break. Billboards on the sideline. Join games. I was exposed to the most incredible deluge of advertising of wounds specific form of product. I could not get over it. Even in the time since I've been home say last Christmas for the really busy Christmas period. It's gone. Even further. So who's the winner here? The winners gambling. There are losers everywhere. That's the very nature of gambling more losers than there are winners. But I'll tell you in football the advertising site if things is utterly dominated now by wound industry. I've never seen the like of it. Now nearly sixty percent of clubs in England's top two divisions. Have gambling companies undershirts? I wonder. With the new laws that are coming in in certain New York's days and in New Jersey what what's going to happen over here as well. Are we going to see the same kind of thing happened? I bet that we will. I mean, they're such a market for it. And yeah, I I'm sure I had to put this in shoehorn it in because I couldn't believe what I was watching my number two winner starts with a trivia question. JJ outside of the top six in the league. Just one club has more wins than losses and a positive goal differential. Do you know who that club is? No, I do not at Leicester City. That's less. There's less sit less. Does that they're the twenty fifteen twenty sixteen champions Voday in the last week and a half. They've beaten Everton Manchester City, and Chelsea sure they did lose to Cardiff. But I suppose those things happen. Pule needs to be sucked. Perpetually like, he's always justly lives on the hot seat, even when things are actually going pretty well for the club that he's in charge of Jamie, Varda's, two goals and an assist over those four games. In addition, some other some of the vets Vardi all Brighton, there's a young core that feels like it's starting to emerge now with this lesser team Madison McGuire show, well, Wilfred indeedy. I feel like is not a young player. He's like twenty two years old. I think he's he's still very young player. The challenge for them is going to be to keep these guys because you know, they're going to be in demand by the top six, by the way, the three wins that I mentioned they all had one thing in common, which is kind of a random thing. They were hums show. Juries only three league starts of the season. And I think I might have butchered his last name Chowdhry Chow. Yeah. That's right. He started out unless there's a kademi at age seven, and he's the first player of Bangladeshi descent ever to play in the Premier Li he's a in. He's played for the England under twenty's. I think. Yeah. Because he was born in England. But I think is mother is from Bangladesh, and that is huge because there is a huge Bangladesh, Pakistan, Pakistani population is well in England and these players from that part of the world are from that that area of of Asia don't really break the way through for some reason despite being such a big part of English life footballing kosher doesn't seem to seep in there. And so that is huge. So not a bad start to his time with the senior team in the league and your final winner. Ryan Fraser of born Muth. Christian Erickson, more, Sal. And the euro sign I have seven assists each season and hazard is joint top on nine with the board of man. The we Scott Ryan Fraser, a meteoric rise for the twenty four year old on his crazy think he left Aberdeen in the Scottish primarily to join borth when they were in league one. That's how far back he's being with them. We went on loan tips which little bit, but he registered his ninth assist in the three three draw with Waterford the vitality game on Tuesday. Yeah. His goal rescued a point form through how difficult Christmas that's fair. But Ryan Fraser continues and has continued over Christmas to be quite the player. Did you happen to see the post-match interview yet on that now? So first of all, yeah. What do you think of having one player of it? I'm one player from the opposition gets great joint interview. I love it. I think it's so his face was also it's for anybody who didn't see it. It's Troy Deeney and Ryan Fraser being interviewed together. So player from Waterford Anna player from born Muth and Troy easy. He does not hold back with Frazier right next to him. And he basically talks about how Wofford were jogged, and he says the referee bottled at today, and he just goes in on the referee and Fraser is stunned to hear a guy talking about the ref like this, and you just see his face his eyes bulge out of his head as Dini is slow. So he probably doesn't agree with this will probably not he's he's saying this guy is basically saying that we were lucky to get a point today. I wanna punch this guy in the it was I enjoy those. I feel like there's like a weird camaraderie slash tension with guys from each team standing next to each other. It's like different. But kind of I don't know. I like it. No, I like it too. Yeah. J J my last winter here kind of changing on the fly because I was expecting you to have Liverpool. But you didn't. But I feel like they need to be mentioned. So I have you and me as winners from this period. You first because Liverpool correct me if I'm wrong, but when the month of December started they were what was it two points back of Manchester City for top of the table. And now they find themselves four. Points up as we exit this period and head now into January. That's an amazing turnaround one that I think a lot of people didn't see coming. Not just not mean. And I mean that is a slight against Liverpool. I mean that has you know, Manchester City are who they are. And for Liverpool to take advantage in the way that they did of Manchester City dropping points in back to back matches. I think it's huge for them. And now like we said they are in pole position. This is now their league to lose whether you want to admit that or not, and then I put me in there as well. And I felt a little bit. We're doing it after the wolves match. But ultimately, I'm trying to keep some perspective here with Spurs. And I know people are saying oh Spurs Andy Spurs the Andy Spurs e Andy, but hear me out. That's what they're saying. In the month of December Tottenham achieve qualification to the round of sixteen of the Champions League. Getting a result in Barcelona reached the semi's of the League Cup by beating arsenal in north London. Darby and moved up from fifth to third in the table and possibly may be kinda sorta find themselves on the fringes of title race. Obviously, the disappointing gets wolves is hard to get past. But it's just not a club. That's going to win every game. They are going to lose against some teams that you think they should beat and wolves is a likely candidate knowing how wolves. Play against the top six. So you look at the bigger picture you see the positive results see upward momentum. You see them playing fun football. And so I say overall that game side, I I have really really enjoyed these last few weeks of them. So I think you and I came out of this. Winter's. Yeah. Where where the real winners here. What about the losers? Would you like to go first? Yeah. Sat down in New Year's day to watch Everton LeicesteR in what on paper to my mind, at least was tasty offering I was hung over. And so two it appeared where the twenty two men playing football. It was a dire game at times and Everton were virtually indistinguishable from the last days of Kumon and a performance devoid of creativity, our competence, and the competence is the big thing. No less, there, weren't grit. But when feel Walcott's misplaced had or was bumbled. I love that word. It's the only way to describe what Michael Cain. Did. I thought that was more on keen than Wolcott. Oh, andrew. Yes. Obviously, he should still. But it's a terrible header it was so much power on on that way. What's wrong? Which wasn't on purpose because it was right at Qian's feet and Keene. Just like then made a mess of it. There's no way that could have been a perfect many times. I was trying to determine if Wolcott meant to do that or not or he is extra corners in his head that it's just gone off at that angle. Bumbled by Michael Cain, Pereira points with variety through the score. You knew all you knew Andrew. There was little or no chance of Everton. Rescuing this one winning it for the Toffees since the crossbar tackle Jordan Pickford at Anfield. They were wretched and back back to fades away at Brighton on home to LeicesteR. No, it's not working out for me with Keenan Zuma at the bike. He dropped James Colman put in Jonjo Kenny that didn't work out. Andrew Goldman's got the curly finger whipped out of the game cigarettes as an owner ten not convinced by I don't think it's working out and Richarson looks looks jaded looks at it bit tired, and he needs to be more central instead of Dominic Calvert Lewin. Look it's early days. There were boos at full-time there. The evident fans aren't happy with what they're seeing. Silva deserves time, but they have spent money maybe not so much under seven but money. Well, yeah, actually money has been spent under him who was he really brought in that was with a really high price tag Bernard. Well, actually, I need to check on money money of those are loans, but you know, he has been able to bring in players, and I'm just not convinced with what I'm seeing on. No, I still like him. And I still like what he's trying to do there. And I think he's trying to figure out who he can move forward with. And who he has. No. Yeah. That's probably true too. But right now, it's not good. It's not going to watch. It was a it was a rough stretch for them. There's no question about it. My first loser JJ, basically for all of the opposite reasons that I gave for Mench. United success is Josie Marino, you know? It's like when. Sometimes you can learn a lot about somebody when he's no longer at a place like when Peyton Manning left the Indianapolis Colts. And they went like one in fifteen you're like, why always knew Peyton Manning was good. But oh my God. Like, he's he was really scary. Good look at what they are. Now, look at Manchester, the change in Manchester. United was just so profound from one day. He's there and their dire. The next gone and the really fun to watch and they're winning games. Like, it was nothing. So I felt like I had no choice but to put him on this. I mentioned rash before, you know, a young player promising playing for his country but being held back at club level by marina Marino Radford specifically, fourteen appearances under Marino, the season three goals and eleven shots on target ten fewer appearances he's had under sole Shire. Same number of goals. Just one fewer shot on target like you said he's a different player. Yes. I'm aware. It's been against Newcastle. Born Muth Huddersfield in Cardiff, but it's in by aggregate score that they've won a fourteen to three fourteen goals in four matches JJ scored fourteen goals Josie Marino's last night. Nine matches total in charge. Remember this club that lost a Brighton? They lost a west hand. They drew with wolves. They lost Darby county on penalties in the care about Cup. Barely got past Newcastle at home. You couldn't take anyone for granted when it was Marino's Manchester United. So the change has just been it's just been so dramatic. I have to make him. What am I lose IRS? Who's your next one? You though. Sometimes you just need Newcastle legend Alan Shearer to sound off on his club. And he makes them really interesting points in this for BBC radio five live. I was on field on books, and I looked at team then twenty as ago when Newcastle hot does classic games against Liverpool. The full three games, which everyone talks about looked at the midfield. And I looked at the full woods. Then you Lynn twenty years ago. How to five million pound player the bolt David Butti for around about five million pound then midfield is on field on books day. Hayden on which cost both cost of roundabout. Five million pound. I looked at the center for the day twenty years ago, they paid about six million pound the less food and on the had a six million pound fold on books in your Salou. So that sells you exactly when you cuss at all you hear that. And you're almost shocked to see them playing in the Premier League. Yep. You are and beneath his demeanor over Christmas has been pretty low. And he believes they'll be relegated. If they can't make changes in January. And there is very little faith the Mike Ashley would spend. You fans are writing to Ashley. On mass to ask them to please spend money because they know which way this is heading and their two points off Southampton in eighteenth. They've done amazingly. Well, because even where they are. I don't know, man. I worry for them. I can't believe he's that Benitez is still there. Yeah. Well, you know, what it's contracts Andrew has every right to see his out. But I think he made their heading for him. I'm saying I would've thought that he would have just either resigned. But I guess he wants to collect money. No. He is a commitment there because he's he's being taken to the bottom of that city, and he has done some escape artistry particularly last season. Yeah. But it's bad. It's really bad. Let's see my second. Loser. JJ is the arsenal. Lost the Southampton on December sixteenth then got eliminated from the League Cup on the nineteenth. Bounceback did beat Burnley three days later, but then drew with Brighton. And then got hammered by Liverpool before ending this period with a win over Fulham fans are getting restless there they booed. I am really other day when he subbed off Alexander Lakas that for Aaron Ramsey, and then you see what happened lock has gone on the fans he pointed to his head basically trying to signify to the fans they need to think before they do. So that was fine with the sub Ramsey came on. And then scored almost. Immediately. Meanwhile, missiles future seems uncertain now both Ozos team and Arsenal's team or arsenals management. Both say he's not going anywhere in January. But they're gonna meet during the summer and kind of assess what his future looks like is he knew Niamey's plans on a report three hundred fifty thousand a week. Yeah. My god. And he's sometimes he's not in the squad. He's on the bench. So right. You don't know when he's gonna play right now. He did come back for a couple of games. But now he's out again with a knee issue. I dunno it just for club. Like, you just think about where they were at the start of December in that for to win over Spurs and they're flying high. And you think about where they are now and amazing how much things can change not just like empirically, but just like morale how much it can all change so quickly. So that is why I do put them as one of my losers of the period and your final one wolves versus the teams day told you not to worry about wolves of eating Tottenham and Chelsea in December on Tuesday. They lost the Crystal Palace. And this is following a trend. They've also lost the season to crystal in Brighton. Now, there's no question. This team is a talented team. There's also no question that it is the fairly expensively assembled site. And that some of these players. Maybe have aspirated of playing against those high level teams that they do so well against but. I'm not gonna call it stats or anything because I watched it myself. So I know they lost Liverpool Mullah new before Christmas. But the chances they created the intensity with which they played with was notable until Liverpool pulled away with that second gold, and then watch them draw one with Fulham. Away and the disparity in the way, they played it didn't they didn't look like the same site. And fact, if anything it was don't Fulham's prolificacy that they didn't just blow them off the field in the first half in particular on. So. The monitor numerous Burgess Sante has to do something with this group and say that you're not auditioning for these sides are playing against you know, you've got to put in the same level of intensity and -plication against these bottom at teams who's that on like is that on him to like is it his responsibility to to get them up for games that maybe are a little bit more difficult for players to get excited about it. I mean, it's always the manager's responsibility in that regard to prepare to have them ready. It's kind of just incumbent on these players. Look, you're paid very handsomely to go out there like this isn't just Uber's Chelsea. All right. Like there's more than just the top six in this league. And you need to be professional shop for work every day, regardless of who the opponent is. I I go back and forth on who's responsibility. It is you look at some of the players. They have other cost. You are Motin. You Nevez Jimenez gonna pick it up dishes. Really do because there's times when I watch them, and they are just playing brilliant football against really good sides on like I said, I mean, the performance against chessy, particularly in the second half was was superb. Now, look I feel a little bit guilty getting on them. Because if you're a newly promoted side to the Premier League what's mission one stay up rice their ninth right now. They are. But are they an newly promoted side in the sense of other newly notes they are not right. They are very much different project. My final loser. JJ? I actually feel terrible about this one. Because you know, he's one of my favorite players in the league. And that is Wilfred zyppah. Oh, I adore him. And kills me. But he's in the midst of actually a quietly brutal scoring drought. He scored three goals in his first four matches of the season. But he hasn't scored since he's over his last thirty one shots, which is among the worst scoring drought right now in all of Europe. If you look at across the big leagues. In in European soccer. And you know, what else happened at the start of this festive period. JJ what we talk about. All the time the streak has been broken palace. Finally won a game in which Wilfred saw didn't play when they beat Leicester City. One nil. Salam get rid of in January. You don't need them received. I don't know if you saw this. But he received an outrageously lucrative offer. I think from a Chinese club that he turned down. But there is some concern. Alec Crystal Palace's to just how much longer he is going to remain a player on that team this summer. I would imagine me to but. Yeah, he did. I think the Chinese offer was I I forget exactly what the number was. But it was it was substantial. So there you go. That is our our three winners and losers from the festive period, you should contact us with your winners and losers at CO soccer pod. A cough, say pottage, Email dot com. You can also contact us. You have Konta contacted us in the last week or so, and that is why we have a mailbag we do have do you know, what I'm going to skip because we talked about Manchester City in. At the top podcast. I'm going to skip those emails. That's you a soccer pod. Coffee pot at gmaiLcom Abe, Rupert kicks us off. I'm an arsenal and US fine. Is there a caught off site proven? Call would -peutic signing Chelsea that can help my very confused American brain. Yeah, I'm dealing with a little bit of that too. With the Tottenham Chelsea rivalry as well. Look may not sound like an easy thing to do. But you just you compartmentalize it. Yeah. And American fans, we talk about this on the grant wall podcast. So we do it all the time. There's guys that you love on your college team. Then get drafted to a team that you despise. But you continue to like that player. And look this is this is the nature of soccer, where international soccer means so much. Like, you've got American players that you love that sometimes aren't gonna play for clubs that you love. But we love him, and I will always root for him to do. Well, I will not root for Chelsea to win. But I can still root for Christian to perform a high level. And we're all going to have to learn to to do that. At Glen Stor. I've had a soft spot in my heart for reading since they were last in the prim. I don't know hoity if they're upcoming FA Cup match against mine. United had a few weeks ago. They might have had a shot. Now, I just have to beg for mercy writing. Of course are second from bottom in the championship. And they face a rejuvenated Manchester United used to enjoy them a little bit because Bobby Condie. Played for reading who's he was a young American kinda of star in the making who didn't quite I think realizes potential and the goal keeper Marcus hahnemann around amendment. Yeah. Although I always associated more as a wolves player, but he was reading I he made his bones at reading, I'm just telling you, also very accomplished helicopter pilot really believe so did not know that. Yeah. Asset the panda curious on old Spurs Andy's take on Adrian rubble rejecting a move to Tottenham because they are below. Actually annoyed with you. Because I think he is below this podcast, and I had no intention even mentioning that these name on this show JJ when I read it only in D rant. What I read it JJ. I was like I was like don't I saw the tweet with the quote, and I just had to say don't throw your computer out the window. Don't throw your computer. I was so angry. I it's just like something about the smugness of that comment. I just wanted to say who are you? What have you achieved to be talking this way? Like get out of here. Get off my timeline go and get get nowhere near my club. I want no part of you on Tottenham. I was like I don't know it struck a chord with like, whatever, you know, I suffer from an unbelievable inferiority complex. And he just banging he punched at the center of that. If he was crafting a comment to hurt you specific just the smugness of it. And just for some reason like it coming from a guy that like, I don't know. You're you're you're a good player fine. But like your. Neymar like real like, oh, I've I was like I hope he goes to arsenal. I want him. Now where we were Tottenham compla- him. I want I want Eric dire hard into those tackles. I hope he goes to some other club in the league. Oh, I wanna see him twice a year JJ, and in cups human need to see your therapist twice a month. Things almost like I'm almost annoyed that we got this week because I was not going to mention his name. I have no intention of ever mentioning again. You know, I made my list for US soccer. We hadn't talked about it in a while. But after you who have wronged him, right? Those who have wronged us list episode of the podcast if I started one for Tottenham right at the top can you stop hammering the tape raviol- right at the top. Okay. Done with him. Joel Bruhns grit win for Fulham. So that was was this December thirtieth. This was sent. So that was the win over Huddersfield. Yes. Assessing young goal on next pod. Please. Explain penalty kick etiquette. It's not etiquette. It's your manager telling you who the penalty kick takers are. And you add hearing to that. How did Kamara just rip the ball away for Mitch isn't manager yelling on the sideline who's to take it very much so Claudio run year? He was huge upset. Kamara rip the ball away for Mitch and then proceeded to miss the penalty. But thankfully, Ryan sesame on scored on that was three valuable points for Fulham. But there is no etiquette. The route what Claudio rent rainier? He said afterwards was the when Mitch is on the field. He takes the penalties. If Mitch wasn't there. Then Kamara will be next in line. But you don't just take it into your own hands. And you've got to score. We saw it with Milivoy vich and Ben techy. That's right. Yeah. Ben berger. Nice name. Yep. I just came out of they shall not grow old. Really? Glad you discussed it on the show last week incredible movie. Yeah. I saw it as well. It was man. It was I'm glad very glad I saw. I couldn't believe how many theaters were sold out. I had to get deep into my list of theaters around me, I had to go to a story to see it, and I don't I don't live in a store anymore. It was pretty impressive. I would say the trailer was so excellent that I'd say soaked in a lot of people, and I don't know where I'm going to see it. And I'm sure you'll get a chance. Search continues on finally Alan Shearer Newcastle. United striker. Record primarily goal score England, former ligon international soul, I'm sitting at home. I better give the background to this sitting at home watching matches day in Arlon, which I don't get a opportunity to do because they live in America, and Gary Lineker, we've just watched Fulham in Huddersfield aforementioned game on Gary Lineker, drops lovely killed Claudio. Shakespeare reference from much ado about nothing because toady are in year. He had said, I will I wanted to kill Kamara. So Lineker goes it cuts back in the studio, and he goes kill Claudio, which is a line from what you do about nothing. And he goes certainly wasn't much to do about nothing. They're good for him. Which wasn't. I mean, it was clunky. Didn't quite work. Neither Danny Murphy are Alan Shearer reacted at all. There's about a millisecond awkward silence. And then Lineker pivots to the game. Because they probably just didn't know, right. I would have known. So I treated this Jerry comes on his high horse. Gary Lineker drops a lovely Claudio. Shakespeare reference from much ado about nothing matches the day, and he gets nothing from Alan Shearer. And Danny Murphy, and I wrote Philistines now that was clearly a joke. I don't expect crayton's. I'm not exactly sure what they should have responded to. But I was teasing. I was teasing. I mean, what are you looking for one? Yeah. I mean, let's drop when when Craig Shakespeare was manager guys we did a lot of Shakespeare references. It was it was it was low hanging fruit. Yeah. And it was a daunting search. So so cheer is on almost directly after the show ends. It's eleven thirty pm. And eat tweets this. He sa-. He tweets he goes. I always preferred the tragedies wit for this for burn you better. Have this ready? I always preferred the tragedies. Having heard your podcast seems the same applies to you. God. Wow. Wow. So I tweeted back. What I'm interpreting from this tweet is that Alan sure listens to the pod about that. Yeah. But now I was like being so nasty like that was come on. He's just having a joke. Yeah. But I looked at his timeline. And he literally fielded about ten tweets from people who are just crushing him on his analysis is thought was really good. I enjoyed listening to him talk about the games, but it's sorta off over there because it's so tribal he gets accused of bias on an almost minute by minute basis after matches day, you know, I'm a delicate flower, and I'm not offended by what he said at all. I think he's clearly kidding brilliant. Because he's tied in Shakespeare's tragedies and our podcast. Yeah. Good. So that was the male Daikin ice. What to watch for FA Cup? Jason FA Cup weekend. Friday to forty four. I can't find it. I'm sorry. What I've done a search. And I can't find it. You can't find the magic have said this to me before the show. I'm trying to do the podcast. You see me? Like, I engineer basically in front of me. I'm trying to find drops on this massive page of different things. I can't find how will you typing out an FA Cup wa to watch. And the thing you think of is the magic noise. So you're right. I dropped the ball. Okay. What do you want to do? So what are what are we stop the show? Now. That's it. Go home, everyone stopped listening God in heaven. Okay. FA Cup Friday. Now, we'd say the magic because this is the magical round this is the big enter employee. What to watch for? I have only tried to identify matchups that put together. Like, you say real minnows and giants look I in some sense Friday to forty five Tranmere. Rovers and Tottenham Hotspur the third team in Liverpool. Tranmere trimmer, currently ninth in league to just a a quick course. I got like little tiny tidbits on some of these little teams here from two thousand to two thousand four actually Tranmere. Reached the FA Cup quarterfinals three times. And they went to the League Cup final in two thousand then they fell out of the football leagues. Right. A catastrophic plunge. But now they're back and they welcome Spurs to Prenton park in the playoff last year to get themselves back into the league. They went down to ten men after in forty eight seconds into the non league final the playoff final. I'm sure they were terrified, but they managed to win that to one and they are now backing league football this match. Well. Earn Tranmere five hundred thousand pounds, which I'm sure for them is huge massive so good for them. That's friday. If you get a chance to check that out Saturday, ten AM Lincoln city and Everton Lincoln city right now, our top of the table and leaked to and if you see that name, and you're thinking, we're did I that sounds familiar where if I heard that well, you may remember two years ago they went on a little bit of a run in the FA Cup. They knocked Burnley out at this stage. Right. Yeah. Saturday twelve thirty Crystal Palace and Grimsby town Grimsby town thirteenth league to they've won six of their last eight in all competitions. You know, JJ who wants managed Grimsby town is a connection to your club. I think go on Bill Shankly. Oh, yeah. Yeah. You know who their biggest rival is no whole city, but they haven't met in a league match since the late eighties. You haven't played it all since nineteen ninety eight physi- Yorkshire Darby. How do you like it just seems funny to me to continue to be rivals with club that you just simply don't play? Oh, but did that is a regular? I mean, we see it with like, you know, in the the south coast you see with Portsmouth and Southampton now with Newcastle and Sunderland. Yeah. It's it's very regular weird to me. But the thing that you hang onto the hate which is important Sunday nine AM Fulham and Oldham athletic Oldham, our tenth and lead to looking to reach the fourth round for the first time since two thousand twelve thirteen when they lost to Everton in the fifth round JJ on Wikipedia, you know, who is identified as an old athletic fan. No, Paul Scoles supporter of old math leading. In fact, skulls actually admitted to wanting their managerial job back in October of two thousand seventeen but lost out to Richie. Wellens I over the weekend, by the way on NBC 'Send, speaking of Paul skulls, I watched like it was basically Gary Neville sitting down with skulls and just looking watching like skulls greatest highlights. I thought it was tremendous. Oh, really enjoyed it. Gary Neville, sucker Bach. It was great. It's so good. Yeah. You know what? When I recommend for you. What's Gary Neville was sitting down with Robbie Keane? Oh, yes done. Oh my God. And some of the goals he scored at Spurs. Good Lord was. Yeah. Like, it's funny. I never thought of Paul skulls is really like a great goal scorer. But oh my God. Did they show the gold against Bradford? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. On the full volley. Oh, don't show is awesome. Nettles great. He really is really really fun on that show. Let's see. And then finally Sunday eleven thirty AM Newport county and Leicester City Newport county or twelve leaked to I don't actually have any kind of fun to bid on them her county. Their Welsh day ourselves day. They fell out of the football league for one to well. They're back. They are back. They are back and they're getting Doug Spurs played their last season. I believe okay. I'll say honestly, I don't remember rooting for Newport higher. You should have been oh red card. Yeah. What do you got its tweet? I'm finicky. I'm catching up with tweets from our listeners, and it's made its way in and it's not you for Jones Asaka pot. I'd love to hear some discussion about the madness. Rounding Italian football right now racism targeted towards Kuta Bali dead. Find another stop all last week. Imagine the scenes if this had happened at an American sporting event, God Syria. So that was. That was not believe an inter are inter-napoli which descended into abuse. From the stans foam inter fans for Napalese Kula Bali and not only coach Carlo Ancelotti said the next time. A member of his team is racially abused. He'd be happy for the series. So I stop playing and. Yeah, it was it was it was pretty awful on. We're asked to comment on this on. It's not being particularly good period for for this kind of incident. Not just initially. There was an incident at the Edinburgh Darby a man has been arrested hips fine for racially abusing a black hearts player. And of course, we had that incident at Chelsea. Recently. So I don't know. I mean, imagine the scenes if this happened at an American sporting events. Does racism in American life. It doesn't have to be at a sporting event. And I think that's the key thing to understand with this. There are certain people, right? No feel extremely emboldened to say these reprehensible things, and I know we're seeing it in the terraces again when we thought it had gone away at no it's never gone away in Italy. It's been a constant problem. I don't know how many times this podcast reports on something from Italy on a regular basis. I don't know what your thoughts are on it. There was a lot of suggestions. The referee should have stopped the game. According to Syria ficials dots. Not within his gift to do that. It's only the police can do that. Because there's a public public safety concern about emptying stadium. Just like that that it could escalate a situation. Yeah. Which I which I could see why they would think that way. I mean, look, I I don't know this is a generational problem. This is an issue that I get solved overnight, it isn't solved in general culture. So why should sports culture, sadly, be any different? Yeah. Yeah. I've always kind of felt that it is incumbent sometimes on other fans to let you know, if somebody is saying something that is offensive, and you know, is not a part of your belief system in any way. But I think fans need to let fans. No, it's not okay. And I've talked about, you know, getting in touch with stadium security, if if stadiums offer text messaging that you can anonymously text to to report a fan that stuff needs to be known teams need to make sure that fans are aware of that. If they're not comfortable with something that's happening around them. There was a Chelsea incident. Also Chelsea supporter has now been banned from ten games for three years for shouting, homophobic, abuse, George, Bradley pleaded guilty at Brighton. Magistrates court to the charge of using threatening abusive or insulting behavior to cause harassment alarm or distress. He was thrown out of Chelsea's game at Brighton on December sixteen twenty year old guy. I mean like this stuff needs to happen. I don't I don't know how to stop it other than just, you know, this kind of enforcement. Now, there is being sanctions taken against inter as well, we should point out that that will happen, but they're playing behind closed doors. Yes. Two games. I don't know. What else to say other than that? It's it's disgusting. Red cards on over the course of this podcast voted to this. You're right. It's crazy. But I will say they I do take issue with the magin the scenes if this happened in an American sporting event. We have problems in this country. It doesn't have to be sport. I think that's key to answer. You mentioned a stabbing before. Yeah. There was there was a fine stabbed. Apparently. It would be a pretty big deal. I think avenue. Yeah. I know. I'm just I'm kinda just dealing often thing at the time, which is the racism. I I don't know. It. It's wrong to say, I'm sick talking about it because you most confront these things, but it is depressing. Yeah. Sure. As JJ my red card is to Neil Warnock. Neil Warnock's gotta be up there with he's he's a regular Redwood red card kind of guy guys just like I'm just so over this guy. I've just had it with I've had it with them. Now, everyone has had their say I'm being on being sensitive Andy here, but hear me out everyone's had their say on the Tottenham stadium situation. So why not him war? No. Here's here's the thing. I want you to tell me if what he's saying makes sense to you. And if it does I will resend this red card, but I just want one favor from you be honest. Don't just go against me. Because you think it's fun. And I love Colin. All right. Here's what Warnock said the league should enforce them. Spurs to play at Wembley now for the rest of the season. I don't think there should be any chance of an advantage to any of our opponents. It's not our fault. We should have been playing at the new stadium ourselves. I think they the league should step in. Now it should. Until the end of the season. Now, I think they shouldn't force. It undermines the integrity of the competition. So what he's saying is that their relegation rivals. When Tottenham moves into their new stadium later, the season will have an advantage that they did not have how explain that to me. The attendance for most taught in the matches at Wembley is capped at fifty one thousand at the new stadium. It'll be over sixty two thousand okay, puch, Tino said this about Wembley just a week ago. That is why when I this is a quote from it that is why when I asked before do you want to move I say, of course, as soon as possible because it's going to be a massive boost for the team. And for our fans, it's going to be a place where the fans can help the team to achieve what we want. Am. I missing something JJ. The advantage is to you who got to play the net Wimbley, which they don't even view as their home. They view themselves as having playing road games every week of the season, by the way, people think he looks like Livia surprise. As he on his mother. He okay. How is the advantage to these teams who will have to play Tottenham in? What like Spurs are desperate to get in there. They've done with Wendy. They think it's a sterile environment all the empty seats because they cap attendance, fifty one thousand it's like an abandoned warehouse. This new place say what you want about it not being White Hart Lane. You're right. It's going to be different. But fans are so excited to have a place of their own. It's going to be a culture in. It's not going to be easy for Newcastle to go in there late in the season. What is he talking about? Like, I read that I had to read it three times weight is he like confused is he he's not I'm confused. What I it's so obtuse. It's such an op cheuse argument to make by the way, this was after a game in Cardiff got hammered over twenty five minutes. It doesn't matter where they're playing these this is so weird. I'm sorry. I. He is he's turning into. I mean, he was always that weird. All non like, KOMO jn this he had something he loves winding thing against Tottenham before the match. He said I'm instructing my players not to breathe on them in the box. He said that what is the he's old school? He is from the north. You are from the south of them. So than softies. Human Komen to the no well actually coming across to South Wales. I don't know, man. Maybe I'm missing something. So now, he's always been like that. This is so weird. I want you to watch the the Sheffield United documentary that was on sky. It's on YouTube. I've said I've talked about it before Warnock. Okay. Just watch it. It's from about twelve thirteen wakes me angry. Now, I don't need that. I don't need this. I think you'd hate him even more that I agree with, but he even used to a fulltime at games he used to wander on on and and say things to the opposition to the mope. There's a classic example. So they've just beaten Millwall at Millwall Jody Morris to move on midfielders coming off and there'd being a frat calf with Kevin muskat on some of the United players and he's walking off. And he goes you deserve that. You deserve that. Because what most got sought on Jodie Marsh goes what you deserve it. You know? I was just saying you deserve it. Because most got did why are you saying to join him hours? Walk off the field. That's pretty fun trying to. Yeah. Real quick before we get to our men, and I should actually give one more red card. It was on the screen all along. I just didn't see it. Oh, so I'll take a red card for that caught off sides man of the match. What do you got speaking of Sheffield United Billy sharp? Here's a guy. We don't talk about very much, and we really should he set and you record in English football at the weekend. He was on target for the fifth time in four games to help chef who United to victory at Wigan and in the process become the leading goalscorer in English league football this century, the leading goalscorer in English league football this century. The thirty two year old took his tally to two hundred twenty since making his debut in two thousand and four won't goal. More than former Southampton England striker Rickie Lambert. Yeah. This wouldn't have been my guess. No. Right. This is in the little stress list mixed with. That's true skies. So Billy sharp English league football, by the way is the four division. Right. Right. Where you need to make clear because sometimes it's confusing to you Americans. Why that is that is so rude meant it though. No, I meant look, it's fine. I understand that we have soccer p brains. No, no, no. No, no. I was I was jesting. So the top goalscorers English football this century number one is Billy Shire incredible to Rickie Lambert three win Rooney. He would have been my guess for one four Jim into full five Frank Lampard, six Sergio Guerrero and seven how you can who considering his age at one hundred twenty one goals is scoring quite the pout, Billy, sharp and Rickie Lambert. What a incredible top two. Yeah. Unbelievable. Yeah. So those guys are the the illustrious company that is now topped by Serbia sharp who I will hope. Be knighted in the queen's honours this next year. Let's see my man of the Mets JJ goes to TI goes sterling, I watched a video the other day of Rahim. Speaking of which I just got note actually earlier today to Jack pooped on the potty. And that is a first. So we are celebrating. Yeah. That's a big deal in the gun house. God is huge. I am was the show by saying thank you <hes> this past month in boston for me. Anyway has been and probably one the toughest like months of my life <hes> just a move away from my family my friends and kind of being alone and <hes> starting a new job which i really don't even know if i'm good at yet you know so <hes> and i've been dealing with a lot of like you know i don't wanna say depression or anything like that but some melancholy and like <hes> i finally started going therapy again which is really sick. <hes> and you know the whole lads thing <hes> i was really considering stopping because i was really getting in my own head like you know i'm my biggest critically. We'll get like bad reviews and people talk shit like i'm the one who's in my fucking head about everything about like anything like i will say the worst things about myself above any of these other pieces of work go on the internet and i really thought about stopping this because he knows just so difficult with my new schedule and trying to get content oh and interviews and martin's crazy with his own life and like like and i'm not blaming him whatsoever i mean he's got shit going on his life <hes> but this past month of july was the best month we've ever had in terms downloads <hes> ever for the show and that's incredible when i thought like you know such a dead season there's new article soccer going on on <hes> it's been really cool so and the discord channel has grown so much and the social media <hes> has been so cool cool in the community the soccer community as it's been so just amazing so <hes> this were you guys. Just thank you so much for supporting the show. You're the reason we do this. Every day. I mean we love soccer. We love drinking beer <hes> but the things have been really hard and you guys have been in just such a blessing in like when i read those numbers when i got done like it was unbelievable and that's because of you so thank you guys. Thank you for supporting the show really refund. Show we talk about you know me. Amari go back and forth about harry maguire. <hes> doyen all sorts of shit. <hes> you guys are amazing and i can't thank you enough. <hes> really fun show tons of topics so stay tuned and get ready for the premier league guys. It's back and i'm pretty fucking stoked all right love you. We know this thing competit- competit- martin verger a we are loud americans discussing soccer better known as lands today is wednesday august seventh twenty nineteen incoming from somerville massachusetts in mooresville north carolina. You're listening to lads podcasts of kevin and martin in martin. I've missed you because there's been so much going on lately. Mcguire slab head is finally at united tend to comment real quick before we really get into it. Love move hit the price but we live in this fantasy weird world nowadays transfers where money doesn't mean a gosh darn thing so a big ups for jerry maguire out his dream like every other young kitten london says they want to join manchester united or chelsea and they finally having fulfilled their dream when they get to a big club so well on that slab head and i can't wait to see with luke shaw victim and laugh and i think that's an okay back line definitely an upgrade over phil jones and chris <unk> yet we at least have to say it is like people will say everything thing about the price tag. It is an upgrade like maureen. I've been making this point. I've been on a couple of other shows but i don't know if i've said it on this one that essentially like everyone's praising arsenal for the nicholas pepe and all they're attacking moves but they haven't fixed their main issue which is defense and they're getting praised for while united's. It's kind of being like shit on lately and i hate it because i'm like well. They're fixing. What's wrong with them. I mean it's not spectacular. It's good. It's probably even great. We'll have to wait and see but like don't you agree like there's this narrative going on about arsenal like doing so well but they're not really you know. Where's the frigging centreback yeah. I mean if we're going gonna be super honest here. I thought y'all attack with okay. Last year was pretty darn. Good last year your forwards at the very least midfields made it was a smidge of a question for arsenal but i thought between laka <hes> welds and bomb yang y'all had a pretty okay from three and why not get better from three so all power to he does for those bad ass for signs but i mean shocked mustafay and <music> calum chambers is that is that the starting centerville parents were going with next year. Well we still have mustafay which god please hope we sell l. Him and we still have socrates. He hasn't left yet either. I don't believe so oh because he only left today. Did you hear that we lost our captain. It's pretty <music> added. He also threw tantrums refused to get on the planet. Go to america to train with you guys. Though i mean that is something i never ever expected from an arsenal player line guy kashani. I was kind of wild for me to read. It wasn't the way i hoped he would have left the club because he's been so good for us. I mean he was always guarded. As a top centreback a lot of people saying overrated. I thought he was like a top center back in the premier league for several years. Maybe not the very best but good like would you agree like pretty pretty frigging good <hes> good i just i just thought he was always matures player on the pitch for arsenal and france for the most part <hes> and so to kind of see him. I'm gonna call it aw call it thrown the neymar and getting his move by thrown a low tantrum this is this is not something that i ever thought i would say from lauren kozanni only or in the program to be completely honest this was this was a wild you know the sun the mere gossip news column story in and once again soccer walker isn't on right now are not from you on right now and this is the shit that i live off of like feed me. This wild gossipy stuff all fricken day france. Keep deep thrown tantrums. I can dig it. This is some real housewives of fucking premier league right here babe london geordie shore. I love it. It's you know captivating south shore shore george. Thank you geordie shore somewhere. Geordie shore way is that is that an actual t._v. Show oh no no no. You don't know about george martin. Oh my go go on a piece of shit. So of course i do at geordie shore is <hes> it is essentially like jersey shore which is where i'm from shot up the fucking armpit of america view but it's essentially imagine and the jersey shore but turned to eleven. I don't even know how to explain it and it's all english people being absolutely disgusting and horrible to each other like it's it's unreal and they're all just like like caked on makeup all fucking each other and backstabbing and beating each other up but it's all british accent so and it's all like <hes> some of them anyway. It's kind of like <hes> what's it called. What what's the trashy. People in england called again man. I was trying to think of the that were entire time. You're talking talking in all of goethe's flags now. It's not that i it will probably come to me later in the show yeah go on scream it scream it when other other of us remember if you're if you're listening right now to the show tweeted at us right now oh man pause pause the show in tweeted at us and tell us what the word is because i cannot cannot remember any such great word to as a great sounding word. It just rolls off your tongue. I know it just it's like dirty just ugly british accent which no no one ever associated with like it's always like the proper like hugh grant lake like swanky accent. No this is absolutely disgusting anyway a little aside there. We have a lot to cover on the show. Today we have community shield recap we got tons of transfer rumors his and transfers that have been done we gotta cover <hes> alejandro bedoya standing up ending up but essentially saying like enough enough about the gun and violence in america which will also cover tons of things. We also got fan questions but before we get into that just wanted to stay that we have a fantasy league. We'll be giving monthly prizes. I've already lined up some of the prizes this month. Come join in on the fun join our discord channel wedged. There's like forty something people. They're all talking about soccer the fantasy league in all sorts of stuff we we had a debate about what's the greatest disney movie the other day i felt twelve but it was. It got pretty got pretty pretty heated. Martin wally ended up winning it which i was like while he was a good movie. I don't know if it's the go of disney movies. What do you think i didn't even know. Wally was disney pixar the fuck 'em saying oh you're done animation moves. I thought you were talking like disney disneyland beauty and the beast and all that shit oh we're going down that road if we're going us. All i guess disney makes like pirates of the caribbean ship. I forgot disney literally. Everything new disney disney animated so no lake star wars. No pirates just like animated in pixar movies so like a bug's life counts fucking the lion king counts monster in accounts and also a latin so like those all count. I'm totally going with milan me. I'm not really relent does and eddie murphy as mu shu damn pretty cool also jungle book that dove oh yeah jungle book slaps but for me it has to be the lion king man. I get it kick. Pissing people likings overrating new year's overrated crap. Why why just exactly everybody hates it. It doesn't add up your goddamn hipster. Everyone loves to hate it. That's right now that's you. You're being a real hipster. Martin and i'm supposed to be the i feel. I'm the one drinking a lacroix with my miller highlight right now. So i'm ponytail so boom. Oh you're florio from the sopranos right. We're still obsessed with the greatest tv show all the time. I finished it the other day also paulie. I guess this is the spoiler oiler. Paulie walnuts doesn't die which i thought he did a youtube spoiler so if you haven't seen the sopranos paulie makes it all the way so i do with that game mother i know oh i was so fucking pissed. I was like no dot paulie can how you doing. Oh my god fucking love paulie. He's the best character in well then christopher for and then tony and then carmella not in any order. They're all making anyway <hes>. What are we talking about. Yes join the fantasy league join our descr disco channel. It's a lot of fun. You can win monthly prizes. It's pretty sick all right martin. I'm going to start off hot and heavy. We're going to start off with the ala hundred alejandro bedoya story sorry which is pretty crazy because we got to actually meet him kinda. When we did the philadelphia union <hes> press things dress yet we saw address. We saw him naked. We've met him in more ways than one beautiful man. Take off his sweaty clothes and locker room full of other sweaty men. It was soccer loaded. Yeah it was locked and loaded <hes> so we didn't say a word to him because we are total bitches and we were too nervous but anyway l. hundred doria after scoring the opening goal against dc united in d._c. Perfect location three minutes in runs over after celebrating the microphone and the exact exact quote was hey. Hey congress. Do something now end the gun violence. Let's go so there's been a lot a lot of talk about this. You know keeping you know politics out of sports and like you know. Don't you know don't be talking politics and we tried to do it as much as possible possible on this show we feel as though this can be escape for most people if you wanna listen to political stuff. You'll go find other podcasts. We talk about it. We're just here to drink beer and be degenerates and we if if you're trying to get political opinions this is not the place to get it but i think it is interesting martin because i don't own guns and you own guns so we're on two different ends here. <hes> we actually have a pretty funny story. I remember the time when the gunshots went off in our neighborhood and affiliated with rifle when i was dating girl. That was a great time. That was fun time tone totally say the house yeah. We'll the backstory is like she had just come from shower. I'm sitting on like instagram or twitter next thing you know we hear in the background up and i'm like trying to defuse the situation because she's looking at me. She's from like orlando gated community and i'm like babe what that that was martin runs up and his wife beater boxers with a rifle and he's like kevin looking out the window i'm trying to i'm trying to keep everything under control and she's like. I'm never never fucking moving here and i'm like i know so. I not really sure where to go from here martin by you know i'm full support of alejandro bedoya. I think he's just he's not trying to make a political statement also pointing it to congress not the president where i think congress can make more of the impact in terms of gun control and obviously with everything going on in the to horrible horrible tragedies and i don't wanna be here and be like thoughts and prayers. You know the whole fucking cliche. He was a horrible tragedy and you know we would love to give our sympathies and everything like that yeah but we don't want it to come phony. It was a powerful horrible thing but i think it is you know. I think i'm still trying to pretoria. He took the opportunity he took you know his platform platform and just wanted to say he just tired of human beings being killed and there's no progress. Would you agree yeah. Absolutely i think the most inspire them inspiring them about america is that we always try to be better or we have always tried to be better and you break it down to the simplest bliss stuff like cars and the break down the houses in living conditions we have always sought to improve those things and it seems that for the past decade two decades three decades for decades however long you want to track it back. We have not been trying to do a goddamn thing about this and i am so happy that people are getting fed up. Professional athletes are using their platform to speak out. Aw there is a problem please do something enough is enough so huge huge huge shoutout to doyle for taking that stand and <hes> you you know i'm a gun owner but i'm also not dumbest shit. I want responsible gun owners <hes> responsible. You know items to keep those in checks. I don't think you can have gun control or no guns at all. I think there's a middle ground in it. Just sucks that nobody's nobody's doing it so fucking thank you to the professional athletes who who's platforms reached literally millions for taking that stanton encouraging people to stand up so for once our platforms like a few thousand so like shot the effort for doing what he can do on his platform which obviously obviously went viral and has literally set a chord with a lot of people a lot of people saying where piano padilla twenty twenty which is kind of funny but fuck neil degrasse tyson and martin. I'm sick of this guy in insensitivity. I'm just going to say it. I i don't know if you saw his tweet that he tweeted but he's just us yeah. God literally took five seconds to google because i know he didn't know these stats off in top of his head about like what was it like. Five hundred medical errors three hundred what people died the flu to. I haven't pulled up so it's not like i remember them two hundred suicide i was like dude i get it like more people die from other things every day day but like those are things we're trying to we've been making efforts to work towards and one of them was accidents and like you can't even explain that this is something that no one has found a solution or working torts. My whole thing is like this is off super insensitive and just kind of fucked so like fuck that guy i'm done with him. He's canceled canceled. You hear that neil cancel. I just think he's a nerd. He's he's just a nerdy dude. His obviously <hes> wrong timing poor timing but you know that brilliant nerd brain of his was currently on compute compute compute. Tell the people so i i have no hard feelings for him. I think that dude is apps and i don't think of him to be a super nice. Human beings <unk>. I personally that hassle that i am could not care less about that adjust recognized that he's early computing some stop doing some analytics. He's doing some you know. What's that mind trick. The force is using the force right now <hes> so shout out to neil degrasse tyson for being a dick and not showing any emotion in a time where zero the death of required so keep on keeping on dude yeah he he's transcended like he's just above all of us like you. Don't even know the dangers. Here's out there. It's like fuck. You dude like fuck you. Let's talk some soccer martin. This is what people come here to talk about. I want to get back to the maguire transfer arro- quick. We touched a little bit in the beginning <hes> obviously that's a high price tag ten million more than virgil van dyke <hes> but do you think it's just the market has caused. This has has virgil van dyke caused this because now there's more than solder back and not virgil van dyke skull virchow. Van dyke wasn't so spectacularly spectacularly good at southampton that he deserved a seven million seventy million dollar price tag and it's the constant inflation of the market so it doesn't matter if you're centreback goalkeeper midfielder or forward your you know your transfer price so to speak is always going to raise so so. I think that while we see the neymars and rinaldo is going at ninety or a hundred and forty. We're gonna see centrebacks go at sixty sixty seventy eighty million. I just think it's the rise of the crazy market and you know you can kind of lame edward for for were you know that price tag for mcguire. I'm sure if we had someone who has half competent we wanted to have paid a million dollars but it's it's ed woodward stupidity and <hes> just the inflation of market prices. There ain't nothing more to that. I think maguire's great by. I think he's a great addition. Do i think he's worth worth the price tag absolutely not but then again we're paying alexi sanchez literally two hundred fifty hundred thousand pounds a week nick so we're just pissing away that money and yet united is still the most. What is it the one of the richest clubs in the world world. So none of this matters money doesn't matter transfer market details don't matter where they go and how will that play. It's funny money. It's just fake. It's monopoly money. It's all just a ruse martin. It's all fake but i mean shout out to lester. It's not fake to them because they're not in that top like barcelona on a united real madrid. You know tears. I mean they. They've done unreal business. Since they won the league back in two thousand sixteen right like mahrez florez kante danny drinkwater who kinda got the best end of the deal he said to do nothing get paid shit ton and now mcguire. I mean if view total all that up i mean you're looking at a couple hundred mil there martin that's pretty ridiculous so shut out to them and keep getting more and more talent. That's go for more money than the whatever they're doing lester. They got they got it. They're they're. They're in a good spot. I think we're gonna see the slowly you become the ducks feeder and and it's going to end up being your fucking <unk> favourite enemy southampton. It's gonna be like everton to chelsea chelsea. They're just going to become a feeder team and that's a you know. It's pretty damn cool that they've rosen from resin reisen rosen rose. They've risen rose from the threat of relegation to being a staple in the prim so shout shout out to them for making that money money money cardi b. mugniyeh anyway. I didn't think you know the community shield. Could you know thought i was out. They put me back in sorry. Are you just another sopranos slash godfather reference but i sound like trey wingo anyway quite the drama at this game in my right martin van for a you know a sunday league as a community shield event that really doesn't mean anything to either of these teams <unk> grim picture things was back and forth there was action smashing there was wild until the end it started in the beginning with city just ponding on pressure in ended with liverpool just pilot on pressure so is it an my opinion. It just showed how stinking good these teams are in house thinking aw on separable these teams are in terms of the talent and managers at their home and that's real shitty to set see an say and if we're being quite frank so i'm kinda terrified of kiss new look yet same team that sitting liberal poor both <hes> put now and for god's dame's damn cav they make for some entertaining gosh darn football like whenever they play each other whether it's in the champions league awards awards and <hes> the primp every single game has been just a hoot like i'm who then hollering like an eighty six year old granddaughter sons literally dame. It's just the most fun i've had in decades. It's great. It's just electric like every time these guys show like the community shield doesn't mean anything. I remember juicy marino throwing the metal into the stands like what the fuck ever but that's just just seems to me. It really doesn't mean shit but yeah i. I do love how you know. It's it's just that precursor. It's that preview the prologue for the a._p._o. It's best of this competition asian versus best of this competition in england. Let's go boys. Legit legit anti odds is gonna say an sitting on a boat so they just this can or his second best team in england. Throw them out there. Let's see what they got and so. It's just a fucking cluster fuck of fun. I i loved it. Yeah i mean like the community shield is officially when i say my brain okay the premise back prim is officially back here we go. I i've gotta strap in because now it's going to be from here till fucking may that i'm just going to be wired to the t._v. Saturday sunday and sneaking out work at three o'clock friday so or pulling it up on on a side screen on my dual monitors one of those options but i will say <hes> <hes> pep guardiola getting red card. Kyle walker is i'm just going to highlight some of the highest kyle walkers amazing a goal line clearance which i still i still you don't understand and he does look like pep guardiola a weirdo now with his shaved head. I don't like it don't like it at all. I don't like that when you go to city you go bald like david silva and and you just it's like the pep affect what happens i think they someone goes through this the blonde hair. If you go to city you're going to end up bald and i don't like him are like could you imagine guera with a bald head. The only thing i see literally any of these players except zidane have a bold head is ahead by jonjo. Shelby is the perfect kimball who looks exactly like conan. It's it's terrifying. I don't like it <hes>. I think you can grow hair grow hair. If you can't shave <unk> bald end on you're still looking or scary. One of the two i just feel like with these team though you're exactly right and also heads great movie i honestly feel like these teams are like the matrix tricks like when neo agent or fighting each other just so evenly matched they predict each other's moves and it's going to be like this every time where it has has to go to penalties or it's going to be a draw because he's teams have both have figured each other out like they both know how each other play and they're both so good that ultimately i think for the most part it's going going to come down to if it's a neutral ground it's gonna come down to penalties and then at that point. You can't even be on these games because it's going to be a coin flip like i'll always bet liverpool at anfield. I'll probably always city at at the but martin like if you're a neutral ground there's no way it's going to be a coin flip at the end. I mean yeah for sure. I good thing is liverpool does have traveling supports. They will feel kind of at home so i'd i'd still you bet on a liberal at the end of the day upsetting manchester city in pens and that's just because i think allison's better care than edgerton so that was just you know i always forget when i watched community shield. It goes right right right depend on. I'm watching the game on my sick thirty more minutes of fighting soccer that's go. I'm just gonna chill all frigging day and then it goes right depends on like okay. I guess i'm getting up in shelton so that's always an exciting time for me and i love it. I absolutely love it. When a team has to come from behind you know from my penalty number three or penalty number four i hate the last shot is missed. I love a good golden has to save it right now to keep them in in it or he has to miss a shot to keep them in. I just love that you know unknown about penalty so i always will root for a penalty. Shootout always have always will oh so love to see that happen and i might slowly become a proponent of just getting rid of extra time and penalties but give me ten make them all kick a fucking penalty. I want that yeah martin. I'm going to break for one second. Someone is knocking at the door so i have to take a break right now. Gimme two seconds. I think it's the landlord he's coming on announced so gimme two seconds okay all active or retired military. Were you diagnosed with tonight or hearing loss. After using three m's duel in that earplugs these earplugs were yellow and black or yellow and olive. They were often called christmas lights. I'll probably put an ad right there but god damn this fucking landlord dude just like yesterday. I was sitting sitting in my bed watching the boys sunday which is a great show. It's about superheroes if they were bad and they do fucked up shit and going to sex parties and kill hope people. It's pretty sick. It's on amazon prime anyway. He just walked in with this whole like young college like family thing. I don't know a student and the dad and mike daughter and shannon. I'm like dude. I'm just laying here in like my boxers like what if i was naked like people just don't understand like i just can't we just came from horrible landlord back in south philadelphia shout to my uncle love him to death but not exactly the best martin but i don't. I don't even where we left off. Do you know where he left off ramblin about penalties or some shit. I say we're all <unk>. Stop it on a low and move on from the community shield to z. the next up all right. Let's let's talk about something else before. I flow gasket. I'm already on my last nerve martin. I'm losing it all right. There was some pretty crazy crazy transfer news that happened on tuesday. You had allegedly cotino going to arsenal which i thought would have been wild. It would have been like fuck. Defense defense defense is like arsenal would've went all in on attack like just we'd have to score liberal twenty seventeen twenty seven twenty eight yeah just boom. We're just gonna overvalue. Tell you which to be fair. If arsenal was just to do that load up truce goose pen aga laka welds twelve's rams grand jogging sometimes great at shooting some rockets. I i would watch that team. I might even root for that team. Sometimes yeah i i would like to be a fan of it would terrify me every game like i don't know what i'm going. What's going to happen. I know there's going to be goals either going against or i'm scoring so but apparently that fell through arsenal or apparently looking through a for a center back now but now like tottenham now listed with them but more and this is the big news coming out. I would just say if arsenal cockatiel. I think it'd be wild but i think they're trying to be like all right. We've already gotten so much midfield and attack. We should actually get the things we need need so the big news was that tottenham had put in a bid for the bala and event is had agreed to ebola ebola has an agreed to it kind of like the event is manchester united deal because we talked about it before the <hes> the pod gabella had come out and say he doesn't wanna play an england doesn't have a need for it but i mean <hes>. Would it be more of this but a lot of people were saying. Maybe it was the state of manchester united tottenham would've been a better fit. They'll be playing being in the champions league. What do you make of all this. Do you think the bala goes and if he does go does he does that. Surpass arsenals front three now because that was my first feeling like oh. At least we're like the third best friend three in england now again behind liverpool and city now like fuck like now. We're the fourth best again. We're in fourth place again martin. I'm i mean i'm going to quickly and unfortunately argue against that. You have third-best front. I still think i'm tom has better from three. I just think that they are proven team. <hes> compared to yours exciting new team. Fuck reality yeah reality. Fucking that wave of reality always hurts <hes> but if taught him was to get the deep ball transfer. I'd be scared of tottenham. I am scared of top road now. It's like the boogie monster i know. It's not real and i know they don't have anything in their trophy cabinet. Just like i don't have anything the willow ought to ati cup marin auty cup. We didn't even bring that up. Tottenham did win a trophy this summer. It's pretty prestigious role done throw that in there with the third place banner but if they were to add bala i still don't think that they can challenge city liverpool's just mandic mandic tendency to win every single game that they can throughout thirty eight game season but i think in head to head matches between tottenham and liverpool report on amendment chester city that tana mardi gave both teams a run for their money and beat both teams last year in various competitions this ebola transfer adding to the mix. I think would be a pretty brilliant an pretty masterful and pretty frigging top terrifying addition into their squad. You gotta think about him working with ericsson number one. That's that's kind of scary him working with lamelo fellow argentinian who who also cannot play with messy him working with harry kane debate harry kane all fantasy. I'd dammit like this sucks yeah. It's a little it's a little scary that north london derby might get a little bit more argentinian in the mix so i think it would be a brilliant addition to their squad. I think that he would. I honestly think that he would do better at tottenham than he would at manchester united united but i think going back to his quote i think the you know that crushing wave of reality is that he doesn't wanna play in england for gosh darn darn. He lives in turin. He is living life in italy with some of the best food babes trophies countryside and suicide. It's it's just why would you leave that and the only reason you would leave that is to go to spain or france because i'm i'm going to be honest. I always tau they english premier league as the toughest league and i'm going to stand by that statement. That's who i will die on but it's also an intimidating. It's faulk lead like can you just imagine the types of people that are going to go crashing into bala on a regular basis and not the talion beautiful strengthen their tackled types of way but bad judge judy drunk englishmen on cullman brummel of fork. Laurie maguire daughter doing harry harry. Glad jonjo shelving might just take his leg in starting on on it. I don't know what he it's not human food. That's for damn sure sure so. I if i'm developed and i'm not calling bala a fragile player but he's a little light i i wouldn't want to come to england haida. I also wouldn't want to leave you ventas with the shit that they've gone on there why he would wanna leave the event is i don't know but i'm i'm gonna blame. Sorry on this bullshit once again. Sorry just trying to ruin teams and <hes> y you would want your best senator attacking mid striker under winger option to leave for tottenham. I just don't get that shit event is. I'm trying to do everything to hold onto them. Well that that's the same with like the whole debate be about the ever to move for a mosaic like. Why are you getting rid of all your young talent. But what i've been hearing is that you know they're just trying to get renowned announced to win now like when you have a player that caliber kind of what's going on with the lakers lebron when you have arguably the best player in the world you're trying to load up and get a champions league while you still can because i mean rinaldo probably only has like two more great years like may oh for sure like oh for sure but who's the second best player on event is right now a good question policy bala yeah. I think there's an argument so why would you get rid of your second best player. Who is not like the the later second best player kyle kuzma he policy ballo damodar machine if andy davis i'm talking last year. I'm talking last hour before the crazy crazy rebuild so i'm talking to venues right now is equivalent to lakers and of twenty nine thousand two thousand eighteen nineteen season. So why the hell would you get rid of polity bala. I get getting rid of lonzo ball josh heart and all those jokers but why would you get rid of your established established second best player on the team. That doesn't make sense if they're trying to win now well. I think it's also good sorry doesn't like young players and we saw that evident exactly exactly yeah. Blame it on sorry. I am i am. I'm just saying that's his thing. He doesn't like young players and i think he doesn't see him fitting into his system by really. Don't see see how like it's. I don't even know how this whole thing is going to work so i think this is going to be one of the teams. You have to watch this year. Just sorry the drama <hes> and they're going for everything i mean. It's pretty much like treble or bust. At this point with all the moves they've been making so i cannot make a way too early prediction cashier cashier go ahead. I don't think that when the italian league this you know they're going to win martin. You're talking crazy on. Thanks on what's sorry did sorry i'm. I'm i'm going back to sorry. Are you sorry for thing. He's a oh. I live at sorry. I'm sorry i'm limited. Sorry i got. I don't think he's that good of a coach and i think that he is a is truly in a merino type fucking dive so i mean he's gonna tear that dressing room for just like you did chelsea's. I'm pretty high on sorry maybe because he whipped the shit out of my team in the league final but but i mean we saw a lot of inconsistencies last year but he did secure champions league football for chelsea and did win a trophy for damn so i'm not like garbage. That's what i'm that's on saying he'd. His team played like garbage ninety percent of the season. They might have got champions a._m. Beings lead in one the rip off the top but he did not make chelsea better. He made it worse than contact. Yeah i mean i mean i'm. I'm also really curious to watch and see. I'm actually becoming a serial guy kind of like how becoming big m._l._s. guy like how i went to the new england revolution l._a. The f._c._c. game got to see marin. Can you believe this. I saw bob bradley amber serena coach against each other. Isn't that crazy. That's pretty wild. You saw the second who was the second one bruce arena. I saw bruce. Oh he's the coach of new england revolution in the crazy like ten game winning streak till they met you know old stars and stripes bob bradley. I could bring back to eagle noise now. I like i can name two coaches. I could never hate more more than i do. Currently it is bob bradley and bruce arena yeah. I mean is pretty much. The lads hate off in terms of match ups but it was really fun game and i got to see like villa and all these awesome players play and the gillette stadium is actually pretty cool. Don't plan on going to a restaurant there before because 'cause it's a forty five minute. Wait everywhere. We just went to a sub shop but anyway it was pretty sick and now that i'm officially a big m._l._s. guy. We've talked about m._l._s. twice now martin. I mean mostly because of me but like because i'm such a big guy but i mean i think. M._l._s. is the future. I mean maybe not for wayne rooney who this is good trans. Look at this transition mine not like wayne rooney any who is now announcing. He is going to be a player coach at darby. How do you feel about your boy going to be player manager over in the championship. It did his following another amazing englishman john terry in footsteps as being a player coach. I could not be more happy for batman. Gimme the old drunk bob slash fake hair man coaching and playing for darby. I cannot think of a better fantasy. I see i would genuinely watch that on repeat every single day all day just him training with them. Slash coaching slash managing them slash talking talking to them getting them life lessons and it's all coming from the man the myth the legend wayne motherfucking rooney and <hes> so i'm ecstatic about this move. I could care less about <hes> d._c. United to be perfectly honest and i tear lot about wayne rooney this is is just. This is picture perfect. This is what dreams are made of. He's coming home boys. He's going back to darby yet or dome to. He's never been on darby. Add on what i'm talking about. It sounded better. It sounded cool. I i heard a lot of people buzzing on the m._l._s. 'cause. I'm emily insider now that they were pretty upset that you know the he announced ounce to now months because they're still months left on the m._l._s. Season people are like oh like. Why couldn't you just wait announcing now like now. His thoughts are going to be somewhere else. I'm like dude like you. You knew what you're getting wayne rooney. He was never going to be like one of your club. Legends like for me like wayne came there to get paid and just like dribbled through half of the competition. Can you know so he did that did both so mission accomplished. Let's go back home. It was like fuck like maybe i don't really like it here. That much do i so yeah. That was another big news but i can't really think of other news going on the soccer world kenya marin negative probably early a buck stuff but we're going to have a special show tomorrow actually we're. Follow us at lads podcast. First question is from gordon cuts underscore t._m. He says dr course predictions for e._p._l. Player of the year slash golden boot oh okay. This is what i was going to allude to. At the end of the show. We're going to be on our friday episode doing a little recap of what the premier league is how it works for people who are new to the sport this. Is you know if you're a long-time listener. You might want to skip the first bit but you know you love listening to us. Talk and try and explain things and then we're going to give our you know our top four prediction golden boot winner player of the year relegation. We're going to give all of that on friday. Stay tuned for that so martin back to the question who do you. You think you know could be player the go to you don't have to lock it in now. We'll lock it in on friday but just like i like the first name that comes to your mind jesse lindbergh. No no no what that young young english talent who hasn't hit the ceiling feeling that dude he always look so young. I swear he's benjamin but the as is just getting younger by the year he he looks like twelve-year-old out there on the pitch such a great player jesse jesse messy but for reals frills <hes>. I think it's going to be bernardo silva. That's my that's my twinsies. Look at us. Yes i was teasing pod skis. I was gonna say bernardo. Silva is well. I mean after how can it not be the odds favourite after the season he had last season. I mean the guy is only getting better and he's <hes>. Can i say young. I'll say young and because people get mad. I think he's i think he's so he's younger under the twenty five. You're young fair for a couple more days. Senate's gonna jump to twenty five and a half o paulo. You might not be young young anymore. I'm just just go on yeah i. I think it's gonna be bernardo. Surviving is gonna take a greater role in that manchester city team this year <hes> kind of another dark horse to not play a lot of games this season and don't pick for fantasy. There's is my protest boys and girls. <hes> calendar brian. I think is going to slowly be pushed to the side and i think between between david silva retiring next year in and kevin brennan taking a less spot on atman city team bernardo silva is going to have yet another breakout season where he's commanded commanded <unk> manchester city midfield and attack and if that's the case he's like <hes> one of the two players that i really like all mentioned facility like i like the silva's i like david. I love to have it. I think he's great and unlike bernardo. That's about it. I think the damn good and love to see bar nar bernardo so if i had a great season and then for that matter just not manchester city i would also give a shout to redeem sterling. I think we're hime. Sterling's been absolutely incredible for that side and i think he is also in that mix for the man city team. If i'm gonna talk about other teams obviously there's gonna be like the monay sa- law could win them get it. I'm not sure if so definite drop off off this year kim yeah definite drop off from some you said that last year and he had an amazing season you focused i would think probably so law and then we're talking super hypothetical if the bala comes overt could him and harry kane makes it up at could they be also also b._f._a. Players and throw hurricane over him just more goals yeah did you you gotta think about the fireworks that action it. Give me that goals. Paulo does have just disgusting dirty. Dangles is going to send a couple of defendants following. You know the critics love that i could definitely see <hes> and if we could jump to another london club this year someone who's in running for the golden boot. I hear america bomb. Young is going to be up. They're smashing some goals home again this year. I i gotta be honest with you. I don't think you guys should do what i've been ler telling manchester united to do with all the a young players for years. I think you should slowly bring pepe into the fold. I think you guys need to focus on a bombing in the beginning of the season and i think if you do you guys are just going to be in gold for heaven who knows about that defense but who cares goals baby more power for i picked to win the golden boot you last year and i wasn't wrong. He tied with two other people just tie. I i'm not wrong so i'm picking him again for the golden boot picking for the golden boot sir unofficially guerrero oh really. I thought you would have gone harry kane. That's your boy now. I do love harry kane. I think it was the son of argentinian devil but you know you gotta face facts sometimes in life hand. I'm facing the music right now. Aguire was decent affects affects close. I've i've been fucking living with my youngest brother. Who is a huge guero fan and so. I've seen the guerra goal all against a q._b._r. To win them the english premier league like six or seven times within the past two months and i just want off myself a lot more so i just been getting used to where i think it's that numbness setting in so i can appreciate what he is. <hes> so i'm gonna go with a piece of shit argentinians all right well. That's that's our unofficial picks all right next question. Mark morgan says the bala to spurs <hes> like pretty like low emoji face like that. You know like what <hes> horrible job anyway spurs <hes>. We talked about this earlier do you. I think that gets done martin now. I <hes> sticking with my prediction from last week that it's too late to do anything in the top obsessed like big money moves except deadline day but i think i think we're gonna enjoy a muted transfer window in the prim and i hope that everybody can reset. Maybe chill out a little bit have a beer. Nobody spent just two hundred million dollars on a french superstar neymar <hes> so i would love to see every club in england just agree not to sign anybody for the remaining remaining. I guess less than twenty four hours now the transfer day. I think we're done all right. I'm going to be the pessimistic arsenal fan and i'm a pessimistic guy for the most part so i'm going to go. The ballot goes the tottenham and literally just kills me in the north london dr yeah he's just going to be. I can't wait for him to do. His goddamn masks celebration shen at the north london darby at it's going to be better. I will be rooting for him. I'm sorry fuck you anyway. Let's move on c. z. Underscore amador says i think wayne rooney player coach role is an awful idea. What do you guys think of it. Oh martin what are you guys. Call it saying this move is horrible terrible. What do you think well. I think it's interesting to note that. I'd never say it'd be good for doping said that's through everything. You never said like oh yeah. He's i'm never going to get us as he said he was going to be a great coach. I never said that he was going to be you know a lifeblood for darby the same way frank landlord was look. There are some people on earth that you know just probably shouldn't coach yeah and wayne. Rooney is one of them guys like. Let's let's be a little bit honest like you know. Life throws a couple of surprises here and there but i think i've seen wayne rooney adas atas most coherent and he's harry caney just talking with marbles in his mouth and the guy likes to have a good beer. The guy likes to have a good fight a and a good cheat so you know he's he's my kind of guy like i dig him but do i think he'd be good for darby. I think he has great management skills. Gills are really i think he has great leadership skills for sure. I think he can absolutely rally the troops but if i don't know if he knows how how to manage a team as well as maybe lamport did for darby so i don't think he's going to be great for darby at all. I think you might get sacked before. Christmas just seems to be what i'm going for at this point. I'm calling all the manager sacks yeah. I could not tell you martin how rooney's going to do. We've never seen him in type role by me. Kinda weird dude. It's kinda weird yeah. It's just kind of odd that now all these players that we grew up watching or now coaches and now that i'm like twenty five and like living on my own like post college life is just going to premier. League is clearly like or is about to start and i'm like how did this creep up on me so fast. How did wayne rooney creep up. Become a coach already surreal to be fair. He's not even in planning so you know he. He skipped a couple of years in the program but i i'm in huge support. Huge proponent of activism would call me in the creation of time travel back to two thousand eight so i've been just watch the manchester united team on repeat because i i want that old school. I want all my memories to be fresh. I want i want to like watch ryan. Giggs paul scoles michael carrick rio gary neville although just bad as s. players for the first time again and now they're all becoming coaches and pundits kevin. I feel old shit yeah. I feel oldest fuck anyway. Let's move on to who <hes> twitter first question comes from at t- underscores guy underscored ti remember his name. You might be hearing it again soon. So sky says if you could have any player in the world other than messy rinaldo play for the u._s. men's national team. Who would it be ou re question. That's tough <hes> martin i well. I think the smart choice to be perfectly honest. I don't think any single player is really going to benefit the ten outfielders that we have so. I'm going to go with the best goalkeeper. That's how i want. You copped out with a goalkeeper. Come on give me some action shit dude. I'm playing at smart. I don't look i've got i've got a pair of shoes. I got a pair of shoes and the flop is as king jack jack. I'm i'm gonna play it safe and cole. I'm gonna call. I'm sorry i'm going to check. I'm going to check out i don't. I don't wanna wait into this mess because i don't think and even if you've got christiano that our team would be really that great to be honest we still are playing michael bradley for god's sake so i'm going with with the safe bet dude other handler. You'll like there's humor virgil van dyke. Oh i was gonna say virgil van dyke which is kind of a safe so i'm kind of the bit i'm so now to all right. If i was going to pick one player attacking player i would pick. I really like mohamed salah. I'm a big fan of him man. I know you're not the biggest such diverse your that gives. You always man if anything the u._s. needs some frigging goals. I just love him so much such such a talent maybe i'm just still star struck from when he scored the most goals in premier league season and it was such a magical thing to watch. I just second complaint. Okay all right dude. I'm just so like infatuated alongside third fourth. Was it yeah yeah. I'm pretty sure yeah anyway. I'm just crazy about the guy if i was going to any other attacking player maybe like agrees mun. I wouldn't say neymar. I would not want him on my team. You know what i'm saying. Mugabe would be perfect. You would be the perfect player for the u._s. National team young youthful plane of pool sit sergeant <hes> mckinney all these guys guys that'd be fun. That'd be so sick exact stefan shutout. I'd also low and i think that's you know like a safe. Attacking move just because aziz is bad ass for poland so as used to carrying the team so he can just jump right in there and his goal machine. He's a lethal poll any full manning in front of goal. I was talking about from france. Are you talking about. I know i said let him dallas go. Oh sorry i didn't hear you. I'm such a piece of shit. Why i packer words in your mouth martin all right. It's all right. I did think for a hot second that imbaba <unk> was eleven dallas game was implosion is like so i'm pretty sure that he's polish but let me just think of a couple other countries that i can just throw out there as pure gases. This is if he's actually not polish like oh yeah right hungarian right shoot my guess no of course it's it's norway of course leninsky dansk from they're all right next question. This is the same question but we'll just you know. I don't want to miss out on a question at free kick tyler other podcasts at the pre kick pod great show <hes> <hes> thoughts disperse kev specifically at me. Whoa whoa hey there's another person on this show tyler so just so you know. We've already talked about this. I think it gets done and he ruins my fucking life and you know. I didn't think he could get worse than this vessel of mine but i think the bala could be that could be that for me and martin. I think you say it doesn't get done right yeah all right well that was talking to bala all right next question james copeland. Who is our good friend from sunderland. He's a journo over there. In good old jolly old england he says will arsenal finish in the top four <hes> um. We're locking it in tomorrow right yes for friday show. We will be locking it in. I will say right now. I said last asmaie on top-class finish. Oh i think arsenal finishes fourth and probably what i'm going to say on friday bar any deadline crazy drama. I'd say a now now come on. I say they've finished fifth. I say that cream in the orioles sandwich. I just i i. I don't think i mean we'll talk more about it. <hes> let me get into the preview pod but without bolstering defense. I just don't see it happening. God dammit. You're making a lot of sense in making a lotta arsenal sense but i really have hope for this year yeah man i have hope and you know that's the killer for any arsenal fan so kept. You've gone full circle yet again. I i never year. Just i love kevin at the end of the season of arsenal compared to the beginning of the season is the north fan. It's it's truly amazing. My father's the the same way. It's it's. It's it's daytime at nighttime and i love the hope and i hope for the hope to actually work but you know hopes a killer yet. It's like i don't oh no like if you guys start listening on friday and slowly work your way till december. You're going to see this weird weird. Major depression come about progression of depression of being arsenal fan in it's. It's something to watch. If you wanna listen for anything. If you wanna see a man slowly dive into depression. It's going to be a wild wild ride this premier league season so all right guys honestly the f._b._i. Should watch like this is a great case study on how how effective sports awards are at a at changing psychology of a human being because we usually get depressed by like a real when i've got nothing else to watch line formative one eight on football's done hockey's not in playoff i'd n._b._a. Basketball is on all star break and manchester united is sending in six nine. That's where it'll it'll usually hit me but just watching cad gradually gradually build build build hope and fall all billed fall build hall. It's it's it's like neil degrasse tyson cab. It's it's really just like put it on a season of mine hunters which is coming out next week which i'm looking store. It'd be a great case study of what can arsenal f c due to a single person and you can just listen to it. It'll be like a serial l. Podcasts like a fucking like you just like we've talked about this before yeah. I think i think arsenal is so effective at what what they do to the human mind because they offer so much hope all the time and like i actually dig arsenal. They're probably my third favorite team the top six <hes> so i like ours unlike when they do well it's. It's like the bears in the eagles. Dwell it's it makes for good football and so i always kind of root for ours no but that that song now up and down up and down up and down that season always is just it's wild to watch. Is it all right. Listen this show anyway guys. Thanks for hanging out. Thanks hanging out with us. Make sure to join our fantasy league which will becoming a recurring segment on the show each week talking about who's at the top of the league what moves they're making.
