"Paul Molitor, put up numbers. Paul modder ended up with thirty three hundred hits. And he ended up with. Over five hundred stolen bases. But he played in Milwaukee. And he played in the shadow of Robin yount, but Paul Molitor and then Molitor went to Toronto. But Molly with thirty three hundred hits pretty impressive. Let me see what else. Do we have here? Andre in Washington. Hey, Andrei, what do you have for me today? Five five one sixty five. On the subject of putting button pizza baseball games. I always thought it would be fun. If teams would. Charge for twelve ounce beers. What their record is say like after the all star break for the Padres are three sixty five three sixty five for a twelve ounce beer. If my Red Sox are, you know, six eighty eight eighty eight for a twelve ounce beer. Boy, it might be a message some of those teams that aren't any good Andrei, you know, if you go to a Marlins game, you're going to get trashed for about five bucks. Feel like I don't think that's gonna work out. Well, I like it. But I don't I don't think the owners are going to go for that. Team was Owen sixteen in NFL team. Yeah. What's going on there? Yeah. And what are they where do they usually price? Gouge you the most isn't beer water. Like, some ballparks aren't even putting water fountains in there anymore. I seen that a couple times. Yeah. Nobody's going. Where's the water fountain? And then you have to go in and use the sink or you have to buy a bottle of water. And then they charge you. What were they charging at the Super Bowl for water to remember was it like ten dollars a six and seven dollars? Oh, come on. It's crazy. This sports history. Paulie, do you have anything for me? Yeah. Nineteen sixty eight the new ale franchise candidate, a Missouri. Took the nickname the royals nineteen Ninety-four. Wayne Gretzky twit tied Gordie house NHL record of Edelman goals. Nineteen ninety-four. Michael Jordan was cut from the White Sox roster and sent to the minor league club and two thousand four and Philadelphia veteran stadium was demolished. Well, you had all of those ashtrays. They look like cigarettes, ashtrays, and it started with riverfront stadium. And then you had the vet yet three rivers, and then Bush and from above if you look down just look like sort of a larger ashtray, and then all of a sudden, you know, they ended up demolishing those stadiums. You got prices for me, Paul. Yeah. A couple of different business websites looked at the highest margin for different foods ballpark. Not the most expensive. Yeah. Snow cones cost almost nothing to make. They make about ninety five percent on every snow Conseil shaved ice. Cotton candy. They make about. Ninety percent price margin. Any type of ice cream corn dogs shockingly are very cheap popcorn very cheap beer. They make about the profit margin. On beer is only twenty six percent. Surprised at that? Yes. So the up charge is not that much. You know, a good corn dog. You may only have one year. But it feels like when you have it. It's a pretty damn good corn dog was last time you wolf down a dog corn dog. I don't know. But it feels in might be a little while. But I remember with some mustard on it. And that turned off was good not felt guilty after I ate it. Should we get some for baseball official? How about we do corn dogs for meet Friday? A slap in the face to traeger. I think maybe. Look, I don't know what the menu is for tomorrow for meet Friday this day in sports history..

"I'm talking about a pair of tickets to the twins opening day March twenty eighth against the Cleveland Indians. The phone number six five one nine eight nine nine two to six for the trivia question that we're about to get into. So all let's get some phone calls lined up. If people want to try to enter the the trivia question that we were going to have here. I you're in a couple of minutes. Do we want to do the question now before we get into this guy? Got this Paul Molitor story that we kind of want to dive into whatever I think, you should talk about Paul mater. I'll lineup some folks that okay? They have what it takes to answer this question. And then we'll we'll go from there. All right. Let's see if there's a few people out there that want to take a stab at it. At the trivia question we have lined up him tonight for these swines tickets six five one nine eight nine nine two two six. We see this story from the the pioneer press in regards to Paul Molitor, okay form. Twins manager. Visit camp says he's not done done. Okay. That is the story. According to the pioneer press out of Fort Myers. Paul Molitor is an exactly sure what he's doing in mid-february when pitchers catchers reported to twins camp, probably shoveling snow, he guest. But he says, quote, I picked a bad you to get fired. It was a rough winter. Okay. Everybody knows that the former. Twins manager and hall of Famer and Saint Paul native lost his job here last October as the manager of the Minnesota Twins. And he said that he's not he's not done done. He's not he's not. He's not ready to say that he's done with major league baseball another quote from the story. There's been multiple conversations about where we might go down the road with a little break a little bit of a break in between. Endemic valley and Thad LeVine. Have both been very open minded about it. I think they know that I'm looking forward to having a little bit of a different pace this summer. I am all for having Paul Molitor be apart of the twins organization. Let me just be on the record and say that I know that we have a new manager and Rachael ball deli. But in terms of Paul Molitor when you're talking about an organization that's looking to continue to advance get better and have some success. Why would you not want a great baseball mine around? Now, I'm not saying that that he is someone that needs to be continuing in the manager role. Because clearly they regressed a little bit last year. So I have no issue with going a different route that, but you know, with with the manager position. But I do like the fact that there is a possibility that Paul Molitor could still be a part of helping the twins improve. And. Get better for years to come always been a fan always will be a fan of Paul Molitor. So I'd like to see him be a part of maybe some of the decision making that happens moving forward. But we got some people lined up that one. Oh, take a crack. At the the trivia question. We do. We'll we'll we'll go to Mike. I, but let me let me tell you what the question is. You're all waiting on hold patiently to see if they can win tickets to twins opening day, which is a week from tomorrow. Yup. Crazy it's coming so fast. But yesterday, we talked about the twins pitcher that has started the most consecutive opening days. And we learned that Brad Radke did that back in the early mostly the early two thousands and the number for him was seven with seven, right? Yup. Yup. That's right now. He's not the twin with the longest stretch of starts on opening day. He's he's the pitcher. He's not the twin with the longest stretch. Currently that would be a Joe Mauer who has started now nine seasons in a row. This will obviously he's not going to start again. So it ends at nine he'll two different positions because some of those were catcher. But my question for tonight is what was the first year that Joe Mauer made an opening day start for the twins. What was the very first year? The Joe Mauer was on that opening day lineup opening day start. Yep. Opening day starts not the first year. He played. Yup. For sure you had an opening day starts. Let's go to Mike in St Louis park here. What's up, Mike? What you got man. Tough one. Got to take a stab at it. You gotta give us a year. Let's see I give you about five more seconds. And Mike is gone. Who is next on the docket? Let's go to Chris in Minneapolis. We'll go to Chris in Minneapolis. What you got for me? Chris try twenty ten. No, no, no, no, no twenty ten Joe Mauer is who we're talking about. Joe mauer? He was long in the lineup before two thousand ten a who. Do we got next on the the lineup? Yeah. Let's go to Ryan in Saint Paul. Okay. Let's go to Ryan and Saint Paul. What's he got on like night Wenchang all five? Woo. That's that was that was that was that was that was close to that was the good gas. But that is not the correct guess law. And let's go now to I lean in park Rapids. I lean and park rabbits. What you got force. I thinking two thousand six oh, another good gas. But I lean. That's not. That's not correct. All right. Sorry about that. I lean gray guest, also Eileen she. She didn't get it. Let's go to do. We already go to Ryan. I we already went to Ryan. So so let's talk a lot of some more phone calls here at six five one nine eight nine nine two to six the phone number again, six five one nine eight nine nine two to six and see if we can get a couple more people on to take a crack at the the question was the first year that Joe Mauer was in the opening day lineup. Let's go to Kirk and champlin go to Kirk. You got Kirk. Public education district eleven taught me that if he played fifteen years, and you quit in nineteen eighty didn't start maybe as a rookie about two thousand four two thousand and four or got it car got Kirk guided I I know you were lining up to get another another phone call. If somebody else got it, but Kurt congratulations band going to opening day. Are you kidding me? No. I'm not kidding. You. You got him. A man I haven't won anything in years. All right. So we're going to put on whole Turkey has won the the opening day. Tickets to check out the Minnesota Twins host the Cleveland Indians. Three ten start on March twenty eight. We got tickets will be given away for the rest of the week right here on this show, and we have to actually double up one of these nights. So so we'll take a stab at some other trivia questions throughout the rest of the week. But Kirk congratulations man for winning the tickets here tonight. Oh, man. There were people with close guesses. I thought I lean I thought she was going to have it. And she said two thousand six she was really really close. But now he's saying he did the math on air. He's a non people are way come two thousand four everybody two thousand and four..

Do you think the Tigers are finally ready to spend a little bit of money this off season not this year? Go another year or two they'll do they'll do it to rebuilding Mona. They're not gonna change that at all. They're not going to win a new spending a little money this year. Another year or two. Yeah. Although I will tell you this. I think Cleveland it's got some free agents coming up. They don't have a lot of money in Cleveland, and they're doing well, Indra militia free. And so as the other the reliever that I thought had a rough year this year in and out here. Cody allen. Yeah. And he's a free agent. And they they have to see if they're good. They're going to bring back Brantley. They did this year. And. They are a team that's not his upwards to train along maybe slip a little bit. But there's nobody in this division that can beat them Minnesota. No, detroit. No, Kansas City. No. And Chicago, no. Still should win. It. What did you think about our Racquetball deli for the twins as their new manager Paul Molitor for him? He's now the youngest manager in baseball thirty seven he was a strange player when he played he had a talent. And he went downhill quite a bit. He's the first base coach last year. In Minnesota wasn't. He. He's first base coach somewhere in the mid American League. He was with the phrase. Yeah. I remember seeing coming Detroit. How old is he? He's only thirty seven youngest manager baseball interesting. I guess he was sought after he he interviewed with four other teams. Really? Okay. Maybe it's a sharp baseball, man. Good for. Well. It sounds like it. I'm just wondering why they find a great name for it. I'm just wondering why they fired Paul Molitor. I know that they had a disappointing. Here's what happened. Paul modern startup rookie year was great. Next year. He slipped. And even the year after when he wanted. They spend a lot of time one. You should come back. Then came back this year, and and it had a tough year. Correct. You don't give a guy like that one Marquette's? I think so. I think so he's a smart baseball, man. He's a hero in Minnesota. Correct. That's huge for the fans. Huge for the fans. I would've I would've given another year. Barry got last Email is Jerry Jerry's in east point new emailer. He says guys, Alex, by the way, have you back. Michigan has a buy week this week. What do you look for as far as Michigan coming off the bye week? Penn State comes in remember that'd be tough game. I think Michigan win it. That'll be a tough game because they're at home. After that, Ohio State. Well, there's another game. Maybe ten believe. It's rutgers. Oh, yeah. I I'd like to forget about Rutgers. They bounce back to should know better night's here. No, no, actually, two or three games. They might finish one and eleven this year. I know they thought they want another one. Okay, now, I believe they play in the NF too. At indiana. Yep. So then it's Penn State at home. I'm so that's actually games. At michigan. I believe that has at Penn State. Let's let's not right. No. I think Penn State comes there. I thought they did too. Yeah. This is flopped because Penn State comes into Ann Arbor. Then they go to Rutgers, Indiana and Ohio State. Ohio state. Looks vulnerable. All of a sudden, they do the one game looked vulnerable. Yeah. I'm I'm interested to see how that works. Honestly. I really am. I don't think to beat Ohio State. You don't know. Okay. Can I ask why? I. I wonder if we have seats better team. Okay. Although they get stunk against up tell you what Michigan steep bounce back. They've got a couple of bad games. So they're not they're out of the picture as far as I'm telling you summits. That was impressive for Michigan state today. Starting a. Starting Bardia quarterback. And he looked good. I think he'll be starting quarterback next week. Then for sure. We can't agree your last hadn't done. Well this year. He's been injured. Fairness to do. I guess he tried to play through the injury. I'm thrilled to be here luck it. It's been a long time since we've played a playoff game in Yankee Stadium. But it sort of feels like where the playoffs should be. So I think our guys are gonna have a lot of fun tomorrow night as general manager David forest and finally the twins have dismissed their four years. "Of a three run. First inning for the twins the plate five more in the fifth and roll over the Tigers eleven to four the final score there. Johnny field. Hit a pair of home runs. Tyler Duffy picked up the victory and relief in what was Paul Molitor 's thirtieth win as a manager of the twins. It's up on me a little bit. Then realize it till Joe acknowledged after the game, which was nice, I guess, you know, baseball lakes round numbers. So we'll get to three hundred wins before you've already seen three hundred losses. But that hasn't been the case. But you know, keep moving forward keep moving forward. I think I said thirtieth, but it is the three hundredth win as a manager of the twins. Molitor will join Dave leave for a final time during the regular season later this morning at eight ten the. Twins in target Tigers rather wrap up their series tonight. Six thirty game seven ten first pitch on WCTC. Oh, the other big story in sports will be the Vikings tonight facing the undefeated Rams in Los Angeles on Thursday night football teams, both went to the playoffs a year ago and the Vikings beat the Rams at US Bank stadium late in the regular season. You only think you learn so much about their defense by just playing them in in their in their stadium where to so loud, we want to deal with that this weeping calcium, but they're still present some challenges defensively with what they do in all the different packages and everything they can do with their safeties and their blitz and everything, you know, they they obviously can do so much and are such a great defense for so long. That defense is still come. And even though the the noise in the crowd, isn't there thirty fence and everything they do is still comes. That's Rams QB Jared Goff who is off to a really good start to the season. The Rams are led by head coach, Sean McVay, and he has a lot of respect for the Vikings this week provides a great challenge, you know, going against an excellent team really sound in all three phases. They have great players are very well coached team that went deep into the playoffs last year. And and you know, they're they're going to be ready to go. And and certainly we have to as well. And it's just like anything else. I thought our guys did some good things. But as coaches, first and foremost, and then as players there's things that we can look at and see if we can improve upon on a short week. Minnesota course coming off a week of turmoil. With all pro defensive end Everson Griffen not playing in the game after a weekend altercation. And of course, there is that buffalo debacle last Sunday at US Bank stadium because we can't let go over into this game. We got to put that Bahamas. We gotta go forward lucky in on his game plan that was Vikings running back from.

"Now, here's Chris had a very good evening. And welcome to the first game of the final home. Stand in the final stretch of games in two thousand eighteen the Minnesota Twins back after a lengthy road trip in which they traveled through three different cities. They played ten games. They split those ten games right down the middle of five and five. And now after the final off day of the year they kick off a seven game homestand with. I have three against the Detroit. Tigers the twins have played well here at home forty three and thirty one on the year here at target field. The Tigers not so good on the road twenty five and fifty away from commerical park this year and today, the twins will try to add to that total. They have defeated the Tigers four consecutive times, including a three-game sweep on that recent road trip and a love Gabriel Moya opening here tonight opposite Spencer Turnball. These were the same two starting pitchers. We saw in an eight to two twin backing onto cover nineteenth in Detroit. Paul Molitor with a win for the twins today could secure is three hundred win as the twins manager. And of course from history on the line for Joe Mauer. Should he reach base here? Today base hit a walk a hit by pitch. He will have done. So more than anybody in the history of twins baseball as we work our way towards first pitch. We're going to talk about a guy who has taken his last swing in the major leagues. But what a hitter he was Victor Martinez. And we'll get the perspective of a couple of folks who've been trying to get him out for the past fifteen years. We'll have a little bullpen banter hall of fame style with Burt bly eleven Jack Morris, and of course, we'll hear from Corey. And Paul Molitor. Let's start though with the twins rewind. Looking back to Sunday. Jake came two run Homer in the opening any non Sunday sparked the twins and Kyle Gibson in an effort to avoid a sweep at the hand of the athletics. Three run fourth gave Gibson a five one cushion. But he walked a pair of Asian the fifth only to get a serious pick me up from his defense. And here's the pitch..

"Are made couple of legends in studio here. Jack Morris is here. Paul Molitor is here. We only have a few more of these little get togethers before we put a wrap on two thousand eighteen and gentlemen, it's always great to have you here in studio. And I go back to something Paul the you said earlier in the summer, and it's about when you have that first true summer feeling day, and it just feels like baseball time. And now I feel like out early this morning. I was walking the dog. I feel like there's that little tiny little bite in the air. And it feels like there's a little turn in the weather. And generally you wanna get jacked up for late season baseball for playoff baseball. And that's not going to be in the cards this year. But it is a different feel, isn't it? There's a different field. I think when you first come up here out of spring training have courses we talked about the summer and everyone anticipating those long sunlight days when it stretches out till nine nine thirty at night. And we have changed. You know, we've come back. It's been beautiful. I mean, these are my favorite Minnesota days. Cool nights. Cool mornings some warms up today. But the shadows change the light changes a little bit. And you know, we're heading into the. That fall season, which means baseball season's winding down Paul with that in mind. You take a look at this team. And you know, what we projected? It was going to be now a month where you're kinda trying to figure out the direction it's going to head next year. Tell me about mindset of you and your coaching staff, and what what you're trying to accomplish here in the last three weeks. I think Jack that even though our goals haven't been met to share part of your job. Description is game one to game on sixty two. You try to bring the vote the best out of the people that are assembled in your clubhouse. You continue to die try to develop them as players in his men and all those things that come with leadership. I think in terms of on the field. We're watching we're giving people opportunity we're trying to teach as we do that. And just try to play this season out as hard as we can. I I always tell the guys every game has meaning here by not be for what you had hoped it meant. But it means something in your own career. And obviously your your duty to go out there and try to win each and every day. So we're we're trying to finish the strongly we talked a little bit the other day about just bring the best version of yourself out there each and every day, and and let's see how we can do and try to finish the strongly as we can. Now, you make a great point in your staff. I think the staff never gets enough credit. Just in terms of the effort, the endless effort that they put in and now with more guys getting more individual work, the days get even longer for a lot of those guys and they continue to match that effort on a nightly basis and on a daily basis baseball such a weird dynamic between an individual game and a team game. Anyway, you've got individual battles within a team concept when you get into a September. And there's young people, and they're trying to make a Mark is that a balance that you have to negotiate as well. I think that's always kind of part of the thing that you help try to have your team figure out as well. As each person figure out the reality is you play this game for yourself and your career and your family, and it's your way that you earn your living. But we ask you from day one to be a team player and do everything that you can to try to help your team. Win. I have found out two years of experiences. I'm sure Jack can relate to is that the guys at buy into that message early their careers are usually pretty well taken care of because they're desirable desirable people to have around. So as Jack said, you know, this season hasn't turned out like we had hoped to really high you expect but not many to use hope sometimes there may be different in a better way than what you imagined. But this one for a lot of reasons has just not unfolded the way that we had hoped coming out of spring training, Paul you've had a lot of different bodies come through the organization this year at the big league level. And you know, that means kids, you don't really know that. Well, I mean when you were in in the minor leagues doing all the rolling and stuff you probably had a better concept to the whole staff. And now that you're a major league manager for a few years, you probably have less that even though you get messages, right? Other coaches. My question is I want you to talk about the trust factor for a young kid to climb the ladder have different coaches. And then a kid that might need to be changed. Drastically talk a little bit about how he needs to buy in and coaches need to try to sell the trust fact. Well, yeah, I couple reactions. I agree that when I first came into this role. I knew a lot of our guys from having the Marlins now that's changed a little bit in terms of some of these guys have come in since that time and people from other organizations, but there's no question that the people that you don't know as well. The trust needs to be built over time. And I usually find that what's effective is consistency of messaging and also if you can find something that helps them early on. Then maybe they want a little bit more. We're always concerned about trying to be consistent because the guy that comes through our system is going to have the roving hitting instructor. He's gonna have different hitting instructors at each level. And not everybody's gonna teach exactly the same. But we try to get consistent with our language. We try to communicate level to level with what's been taught. How it's been said what the players seems to embrace and understand. And so as he comes up he starts to realize that from top to bottom. We're trying. To do. What's best for the player? That's the voice of Paul Molitor manager of the Minnesota Twins. Jack Morris is here as well. The show is inside twins. We'll come back and talk about some of the new faces including today starting pitcher who have joined the twins here for their.

"The twins statistical you back about fifteen years you go back fifteen years and i make that point because that's when the twins came back in a relevancy right in two thousand two since then the yankees or ninety and thirty three against minnesota ninety eight thirty three all do the math for you that's a winning percentage they play out to one hundred and nineteen wins in a full one hundred and sixty twogame season so not only dominant historically dominant put it this way if the twins win every single game that they play against the yankees for the next eight seasons they still won't be back to five hundred against them but they don't need to the only need to win one game and aids when it tonight and it's unlikely when you look at historically how they've done against them but it's only one game that could happen one eight hundred six three six eight six eight six i mean i'm sure paul molitor is telling his team just that in fact he said of pests this week quote it's kind of a coin flip you've just got to take your shot if the post season is always a war the dice no matter what then what's a single game wildcard match up the old mccoy nfl lip and the twins are applying with house money nobody expected them to be here nobody expects them to win here just like nobody should be surprised if they find a way to get it done it's only one game weird things happen that's why the wall carter so cool of course the yankees are the better team of course they win a bestofseven matchup every single time but it's not a best a seven it's best to one winner advances lose goes on it could happen i love that game tonight in the meantime it saw some football we're joined right now by a quarterback for the arizona cardinals he's a threetime probowler yet five tackles and a pass a fenced.
