"A full ninety minutes passed between when Kennedy left the Party was Mary Jo and when he crashed his car off dike bridge this naturally leads to the question of what happened during that missing time and why would kennedy lie about it. was there more to the story of what happened that night before with a crash. Could it be possible that Ted's intentions for Mary. Jo were less than honorable or maybe even that she was dead before the car. I sank into the river. It's no worthy that Kennedy claimed to have been back in his hotel by two twenty five in the morning given the distance between the crash site the cottage and Kennedy's own statement about how he recruited Paul Markham in Joe Gorgan to try and Rescue Mary Jo from the car it would have been possible for him to be back in the hotel that time if he crashed the car at eleven fifteen but the time line seems much less likely if he actually crashed the car closer to one in the morning this particular theory deal simply with whether Ted Kennedy crashed when he says he did unfortunately there's not much to go off of besides two conflicting accounts from fifty years ago although don't forget the Ted did speak to the innkeeper at his hotel and that was believed to have happened between two and three in the morning honestly what seems most likely is that both Ted Kennedy and look are telling what they believed to be the truth if look got his time wrong then it's entirely possible that he did see Ted and Mary Jo in the car but <music> at an earlier time than twelve forty A._M.. But this still doesn't account for why Ted didn't mention pulling over on the side of the road I give it a nine out of tin that the official stories timeline is falls at least to some degree what I'm not sure about is whether that's intentional or just a byproduct kicked of Ted failing to recall exact details about a night where he crashed his car nearly drowned and probably when to some degree of shock no regardless regardless of intent looks story does raise some questions why was Kennedy pulled over in the first place and if he was telling the truth. Why did his version version of the story not explain why he was pulled over that night? Could it be that he didn't remember pulling over in the first place or perhaps Ted needed it to withhold the real reason that he was pulled over. Could it be that he realized he needed to sober out next. We'll look look at the various conspiracies about Ted and Mary Jo's states of mind in those fateful final minutes before the crash uh they seem like a friend or even family you trust them with your life but behind the promises of fame.

"Most of the country was glued to their radios waiting for updates on the recently launched Apollo Eleven Moon Mission Ted Kennedy set up a party. The purpose of the gathering was to host a reunion of six women Rosemary Kio Nansen Mary Ellen Lions Susan Tanenbaum Esther Newburgh and twenty eight ear old Mary Jo Kopechne any these women had all worked on Robert Kennedy's presidential campaign and had come to be known as the boiler room girls due to the windowless room. They all worked out of on the campaign. This was a group of a young smart women whose time as an effective political team had been tragically cut short by Robert's murder they had reunited a number of times prior to the July eighteenth gathering the party was hosted on Chappaquiddick Wittig island a fairy accessible retreat east of Martha's Vineyard in addition to the boiler room girls six men attended including Ted Kennedy his cousin Joseph Gorgan and Paul Markham the United States the district attorney in Massachusetts as the party's started to wind down Ted prepared to leave his wife. Joan was pregnant at the time and bedridden due to her two previous miscarriages and Ted was ready to return into her. He started making the rounds to say his goodbyes at eleven fifteen on his way out. He passed Mary. Jo Mary. Joe Was staying at a hotel near Ted's and she asked if he could give her a ride back Ted Kennedy. It didn't normally drive himself as wealthy senator. He had a chauffeur for most of transport needs Ted's chauffeured. John Crimmins was actually at the party that night when Ted saw that John was still eating and enjoying himself Elf he asked for the keys to his car until John he drive himself home. The rest of the guests were too preoccupied with a party to notice Mary Jo leave with Kennedy when they realized she was gone. They assume she'd left on her own. Ted and Mary Jo climbed into Ted's Black Oldsmobile in started off down the narrow unlit paved road that would take them to the mainland for Mary Jo. It was the last time she'd sheets set foot dry land next we'll discuss the death of Mary Jo Kopechne any in the fallout of Ted Kennedy's actions after the fateful crash.

"Us anytime anywhere Stoney Richards here on a Saturday afternoon it, looks like it's turning out to be pretty nice And it's going to get tomorrow is going. To even be better we had some what we had Stupid thing yesterday. Went out and we decided. We were going to go to win, Ben movie in a long time I had a night office let's let's we'll go to the. Movies so we decided to, go. Get something. To eat first and then we'll. Go to the movie we're gonna go see mission impossible we'll fantastic so we went to. The restaurant we ate and we. Were done about an. Hour before the movie was going to start, so and it was. Pouring rain we got done eating we. Went to, go out of the restaurant pouring rain as well let's, just sit here at the bar you. Know, we got an hour before the movie starts. With just, we'll, wait for the. Rain to stop well we did and the. Rain really didn't stop we said well we'd better go and so we had this. Whole evening, plan we get to the, theater and. I drop my wife off because. It was raining I said you go get the tickets parked car, I'll meet you inside the theater she comes back out before you even get out of. The car the movie sold out Our one Friday night to go see the. Movies sold out mission impossible it. Was mission impossible so. We made a night of it came home, and something that I've. Been wanting to see which I always. Thought was, really a TV should have been a TV movie anyway, was the movie called Chappaquiddick and I. Don't, know if you've seen it yet we had. Put it, off, because I was. Like I know the story about Ted Kennedy. And Mary Jo Kopechne NIA tragic death in a terrible terrible story but I did. Want to, see the movie but we've, kind of. Putting it off and it was. I didn't think it was that I didn't think it was going. To be that good And, it was good in the way that the story was told because if you. Don't know the story there was a party July, eighteenth when when we were landing on the moon in one thousand nine hundred sixty nine and, Ted Kennedy. Was was out with a number of Stafford's, many who had worked on Ted's brothers bodies campaign and, they were getting ready because he he he was next in line to run for president And so they had a party and he kind of hooked up. With Mary Jo Kopechne e. and they, went on for a ride in the car as they put it in the movie nobody really knows what happened with the two of them but anyway they were off a ride in the car and they missed a turn and went off to bridge in a car went in the water and she drowned Ted Kennedy escaped That's that's. What happened, the story. Is how they handled it in the way they handled it I mean in those days you really didn't hear that much about it because we were landing on the moon and it was I o Ted Kennedy and Ted Kennedy wasn't a big name at. The time we were still morning Bobby right and so. He was, in a car accident and what it is, it's about how they spun the accident I mean it is it is, so typically inside Washington that makes you, shudder how they Not so much covered it up they couldn't cover, it up it was out there but. You see the behind the scenes of what goes. On in Washington every. Single day how are we going to say this how do we put. That out, there what are, you going to have to do teddy Teddy's saying you know he he's never going to be president which of course he wasn't and then the father Joe Kennedy was that the. Father played by Bruce, Dern oh? My gosh brilliant brilliant performance he had he didn't even have a line because his father at the time. Old man, Kennedy had. Had a. Stroke he died shortly thereafter the accident in real time So, Bruce Dern. Plays this. Man in a wheelchair with his face kinda disfigured from a stroke, who car talk but what what he. Does say he is he says to Ted Kennedy You will never be president I am not proud of you you are a failure you've, always I mean just terrible terrible things you. Will always be a failure you'll never be. President and teddy is just Just beat to death by his. Father in it it's wonderful movie making that can. That was pulled off by. Bruce ner who is a great. Star in his own, right such, a good, movie if, you get. A chance to watch it and. It's also very sad to see what happened In this in this story but it's very very well done and. If you if you want to watch that it was something that you know really kept Ted Kennedy from becoming president in, one of the things and you'll see I'm telling you this but. You you can't appreciate it until you see it Was the the part, of the thing Joseph Kennedy senior that's who Bruce, Dern was was, the part of. The movie where he was when he makes the television announcement and I'm telling you this because maybe you won't even rent this thing but if you, do he makes the announcement to to, his to, his family that I I'm going to resign From. The Senate I'm not going. To seek the presidency I'm going to resign. From the Senate and then the night that he's gonna make the speech this great turnaround where you see, the political wheels begin to turn. About, maybe I shouldn't resign maybe I should let. My constituents tell me whether or not I should resign and he knows he's a Kennedy he knows he's in Massachusetts he knows the power of the Kennedy name and so what. Becomes what, starts. Out as a very honorable situation and probably the right thing to do he suddenly becomes your political Kennedy well, perhaps we should leave it to the people and of course the people. Just go all over, it and he stays in the Senate and was came to be, known as the eagle The. Senate, he was he he he did so many. Wonderful things in, the Senate but his name was always tarnished by the Mary Jo Kopechne liens and in a woman who lost her life In in this. Horrible accident. And it's, played by Kate Mara who is wonderful Ed Helms, is in there normally he's doing comedy very wonderful dramatic role for him Jim gaffe again who plays Paul Markham Deadpan not really not funny and, yet very good? Great stand. Up comedian and Jason Clark as a teddy Kennedy and you're right somebody just sent me a texting and it didn't ruin Ted Kennedy's career, the libs, still voted for him didn't they, hypocrites they did they did and and he went on to do a lot of marvelous things in the Senate in just shows you how politics can just, you know just gets in. These people's guts whether you are. Liberal or Republican because don't tell me that it's, only on, one side conservative or liberal Republican or democrat when politics gets into the water it tarnishes, the whole pool and this. Is, a great story if you wanna see politics. As politics really is, you know, people talk about the. Author of the, Senate and the house No that's in in history, books but, in real life you kind of see these kinds of things Do you think, the Kennedys were. Drunken with power Ted. Was drunk the night he killed Mary Jo and they don't and they never they never discussed that he got off with a really light sentence a year of parole. And everything was it, was set up in may to, work and they never know if he would they were drinking a whether he was, drunk or not and they never got into. Whether or, not he and Mary, Jo Kopechne e were you know he had. An, affair that night you know, they just the movie, just tells the story and the Kennedys never Said anything about when they took off in the, car, whether they, were, going off to park and you know make kissy. Face or what they, just showed them going down the road taken. A wrong turn and going. Off the bridge and the car sinks and teddy, gets, out, and, one of the telling scary scenes as. She's drowning in the car, teddy gets out of the car in the movie and. He's sitting on. The on the on the shore just holding his? Head thinking about. The fact that he's not going to be able. To run for. President I mean it. Was made very evident in that one scene very touching very very real very very scary and a very nasty look into politics maybe as politics really really is get. A chance rent it, tonight take a look at Chappaquiddick, it's a well done film our number here eight six six three nine hundred ten, twenty call or text.

"It isn't like i'm blowing the lid off the truth of chappaquiddick because nobody knows you know but i think the bigger point of the film is the reaction to this accident well but people see films as the definitive history that worry would all mean the same asking jason about portraying this man who's been both lionised and you know criticized i don't think there's really that much of a mystery i think it's a guy a young woman go out they've been drinking there's a witness who happened to be cop who saw them in the car and that's probably very good reason why they took office such a high speed the bridges less than a mile from the from that intersection so it's pretty obvious what happened what happened afterwards i think jason i've been out on that bridge late at night and there's no ambient light it's pitch black and there's a strong current i mean it's very conceivable that what happened is what ted says happened he tried to rescue couldn't i say every time i go over the bridget chappaquiddick there are no sides to it goes on an angle off the road and you wonder why more people haven't gone off jason what was it like to be in that place that is so beautiful where something so horrible happen twenty it's also that the players the of america and i was this feeling ted when we set there and we just examined it of like the minute ted turned his face from the atlantic ocean towards you know the house towards washington towards his responsibility justification you know it would have been very lonely cold decision john currin you talked about how you took most of this from a record people questioned the record because there was edgar town massachusetts court inquest but as we see in your film there's a close relationship between officials and the kennedy men in this scene former us attorney paul markham played by jim gavin calls the police chief who's having a press.
