"You're David pasternak, the rules to signing David to me are different than their signing somebody else. One of my favorite players in the NHL, I think one of the best goal scorers in the NHL, I think David pasternak and that contract is and this is no luck man. And this isn't news to dawn Sweeney and the bruins. It's of ultimate importance to them. If you decide you're not going to meet whatever they're asking prices and you move David pasternak, you are in full rebuild. Full rebuild. The guy's a star. If you let him go, then you spend the next ten years looking for David past or not. Agreed. No. All right, let's wrap up headlines real quick. You bring up the 72 series of the summit series, Paul Henderson. Should he be in the Hall of Fame or honored some other way with the number 19 retired internationally? That's sort of thing. I've been really consistent with this and it makes me feel better reading Paul's feelings on it. I don't think he should be in the Hall of Fame. To me, the Hall of Fame is not about a time frame of amazing, amazing achievement. We're really talking about 8 games. We're talking about the last three where he scored the game winning goal, which is just beyond remarkable. But Paul Henderson doesn't think he should be in the Hall of Fame. I've not thought he should either, only by, I think the Hall of Fame's for my criteria would be if I were voting. It's for the great. It's not for the very good. And that is achievement should be honored. I mean, of course it should be. It's the most, I was in the building when Sidney Crosby scored in 2010. It was amazing. Amazing. And the percentage of Canadian people watching the game was astounding. The 72 goal was bigger. It was more important in a global the wrong word. I mean, Canada, Soviet world. It was far bigger. It was unknown. We were playing, you know, the whole circumstance of the whole thing was amazing. Henderson's performance, among others, was off the charts, but I don't think he's a Hall of Famer. Excellent. There you go. Terrific way to wrap up headlines and once again, thank you to our good friends at Boston pizza.

It's all about us getting ready for Wednesday, the longest kick. We've been asking you to bring your car to Wednesday's show to put it on the line so that we can coach people to come down and see how many cars can they kick the footie over. On the line. Come put your car on the line. Question O'Connell's portrait car on the line. And he costs 5. Ferraris on Nissan skyline. Listen to the moment, just a little bit short on those Ferraris. Come on Ferrari owners. So the big price at the end of this isn't just how many cars do you clear? It's $5000 in cash. $5000 a lot of money. All thanks to Sheen panel service had a car accident, cool Sheen. They provide accident replacing vehicles, no cost to you. 20 16s right across Victoria teased the sea supply. Some of the amazing vehicles we've got, it's not just cars. It's going to look like the wacky races come next Wednesday. We've got a fire engine. We've got a 1925 hot rod, 8 meter tip truck, we've got a hearse, someone's bringing a cherry picker a bobcat, a police car. Krishna crew, I'd like to nominate my son keats for the longest kit competition. He's 16 and can kick a footie 60 meters with just two steps. Recently. Well, recently in a final, I love this. Whenever someone says they'll follow you can kick a footie right. They always go back to that one day, it was pouring wet and the Sharon was soaking wet as well. Here we go. Recently final, he booted a torpedo wet footie, 70 meters from full bone. He said, dad, I didn't even hit it right. He went on to win the un 16s grand final kick in the last two goals the last three minutes, and then was elevated to playing the under 18s, helping the wind by kicking three in their grand final. He's playing two games, the full back full forward. Who is he? He has a huge left foot and they call him. Big dog at a local club. If he won the $5000, he would put it towards parmas and protease. Bring on big, big dog. We already for the big dog. Conrad's big dog's dad Christo. Yes, come on down, mate. This is brilliant. Christian love to be a cookie when you competition I played footy for 25 years, retired a few years, but never, ever, mister gold, and I could kick. I love all this so much big talk. So much. I never miss a goal. I could kick the ball a fair way back. Okay, from you soon, cheers, Paul Henderson. Bigfoot Henderson, you'll be known now as hendo. Yes, you were in as well. Thank you very much for some of the messages we're getting as well. Hi Christian my name is Maya and I'm ten years old. Lovely. I want to know my dad to put the car on the line. He's favorite thing is the car and the peacock green color. And it's just very red lawn. My dad kinky good football real far and I've seen him do it before. And he can do it from 64 I made it. Wow. Christian if you want to talk to my mommy can ring it and I'm still today. We've got to get you down involved on that car. He loves that car, don't bring it to this then. To more messages. I'm at here, although the biggest car in the road, you can see it's a Chevrolet suburra. And it's a big monster truck. And I hope it was my son's under 12 football team and I already got kicked off in the whole team. So we're going to go chase the second at the gong. I'm pretty formed adult. You can only beat the competition in front of you. If you're qualifying, who are you, sir? In your face, 11 year old. That scene from Billy Madison where he's playing dodgeball. Okay, so who listen to this? Who doesn't want to be there next Wednesday? We have been talking to so many different venues. Oh my God. It does look like though, we're going to be in the car park of a bowls club. I'm not joking either. There's a bicycle lane pattern at the end of it. We've got a high chance of knocking innocent people off their bikes, but an extra hazard. Maybe there's a bonus if you do not knock over a member of the public. No, of course not. No, we don't do that. All right, so we need kickers and we need cars as well. If you want to be part of Wednesday's big show, you create fun show. Christian, Christian O'Connell dot com dot AU. "Monday night shell well. I flipped it on the other day. Because as you know. I like the action. I bet a little bit on the football so i turned on and then came across their deal. That they're doing. I was kind of immediately frustrated. What one is because. I just wanna watch the football game right and originally i thought okay. 'cause i texted saying the you know the guys who did the game last night again The dallas game. I just can't i just personally. Just don't like them. I it's vanilla. You kind of agreed with me. They don't give him much. We've got the tony romo's now of the world who are coming in to do this and when you see what he does Boy the bar's gonna go way up for these guys. So when i when i was looking i go. Oh these drive me nuts. You know this guy. Steve is just giving every stupid adage after play. You know going good run there. I'll tell you what they're going to need that guy to do more of that in this game with the this guy's this guy's gotta bring it st all that shit right. It was just like shut up now. Brian greasy by the way the so bob greasy is the guy who led miami to their perfect season in the early seventies and brian. His his son. He was briefly an nfl quarterback and just kind of getting his feet. Wet the monday night booth. He's not gonna last. I don't think so anyway. So i said well. Let's check this thing out the eli peyton thing and one of the things that struck me right away. Steve is is the quality they've they've got. Those guys are sitting in a room somewhere and then they'll have onscreen. The game will be gone on like you know. They have a picture in picture. Almost right and they're they're kind of talking to someone else they'll be interviewing a guy and sorta doing this interview with the guy and then throwing a little commented really nice play there. Yeah good pass. Rate in the blob blah. The quality was terrible. I thought you know zoom camera. Whatever they use bats brutal. And i'm going. You're doing a national broadcast here or you know. Probably even bigger than that. It's probably going to other places in the world as you gotta be. You gotta be joking. This is shitty. But i never gave it a chance. I guess i. I lost about thirty seconds going. No i don't like this. Give me back to the game. What you think i find it distracting. I really like peyton manning. i don't know much. But i don't have much to say about. Eli one way or the other. I don't i don't love him. I don't hate him or anything. He's fine And so but peyton. Manning is just so quick and eloquent. I always enjoy his commentary. I'd like to see him in a more standard format talking at the right times. Because i feel like these guys are distracting. Me is like it's like you have five guys over your house in a sunday afternoon to watch football on your you know the when the place happening. I'm like gallon watch. Meanwhile they're they're doing something entertaining over here. You know with a beer. Or something. I i really would.

"What we're doing now. Do you think you'd still be in that position if if the restructuring stuff didn't come along well. I don't think i would have survived. You know in our minds hundred desire. You wouldn't have walked away from it is my point. I'd never walk away from. This is the best gig in the world. Yes to your point. Yeah once i got. Is this any good listening. Don't take this away from me okay. There was nothing bigger in my mind that i loved it. I honestly think it was a good thing for me. Because i done morning. Radio for thirty years people. In canadian radio period have done that morning slot for thirty consecutive years. Yeah killer now that on the other side of it. And i've got the clarity of not getting up at four in the morning and being late watching hockey and then getting up at four in the morning again and again and again is it wasn't easy physically after a while and so it's been good from a physical and mental standpoint. I'm now at the time no and brought about a year afterward. No but now that. I'm two and a half years clear of it. I'm thrilled that. I'm not doing that. Slot right more. I would entertain going back date daytime shift but certainly t- gore and that early morning slot. It was time right. You did it for thirty years. You know get up that early. I'll tell you what what i agree that you just. You just can't do that day after day after day and so about day. Three stevie. I said. I just can't do this. Okay i'll tell you what man. This is brutal longer. Do i have to get up stevie at five thirty in the morning for a five o'clock show. Yeah okay how much i can't you know. We all admired your stick to it of new sports. You as we back final thoughts after these words. Are you looking for a better value on your insurance dollar if all the companies are charging close to the same price. Who would you pick. "From their parents right. You could never say anything can never seen anything. So maybe maybe that's the case right anyway. Quite a story quite a story is always fascinating to us. I think when when players walk away from the dream the apparent dream young age. We saw it with barry sanders. Who who's the guy for the phoenix cardinals who who went away and got deployed pat. Tillman is the name right. So that's what he did back then stevie So so. I can't help but think when i hear this story that i'm kind of going like being punched in the diaphragm. Yeah to be honest. That that i don't think while the kid was under pressure from his parents although that could be something but i think you're going to do this to fuck around on your phone all day language. Yeah and one's a little different. Because he he is not like he didn't like football he with the whole nine eleven attacks he just. He felt like he wasn't doing enough for his country and was deployed afghanistan and died. Still still to do that though after making the nfl. Who do it yup Also wanna talk about a vendor kane as mentioned going into break in a new segment. I call what's vander being investigated for now and the latest is of course you know the stories last week and we actually didn't update this. we've been. We talked a lot about of andrew keen. So it's important that we clarify this. The nhl announced last week that they did an investigation and it cleared evander kane of allegations that he gambled on league games. But at the same time they also revealed to new inquiries were underway. The first involve serious accusations relating to his past behavior toward his estranged wife and the other involving allegations of inappropriate behavior potentially jeopardizing the health. And the safety of club members. This is all The second investigations involving possible violation of nhl cova protocols and details of the violation is While just saying it's being investigated and they're not releasing any other details on that. But i mean what next with this guy. James with i keep your powder clean. What did they say. What's that expression. Steve you keep your powder clean nose clean. Keep your nose thing keep your powder nose clean powder you know what's powder after you. Look that up. Steve there's going to be a look it up right now. Going to be something about. Keep your powder clean. I'm telling you it's some sort of expression keep one's powder dry there you go. What's that mean. Keep your powder dry means to remain cautious and ready for any emergency. There will so remain cautious. Evander this poor prick you know. Why why would he. Why would he go against covert protocols. Now i don't know what to say about this guy. I don't know how to say. I think he's troubled. I've heard from a couple of credible sources that he's very troubled..

"Telling story of what what lies ahead or is it the saddest date for youth. I'm going with the saturday ever i you know. I think that's you know you and i were talking yesterday. Offaire about You know our youth and how some of them some of these people. I i know on examples of some of these people were just. They don't have the direction that they want. They're feeling peer pressure You know they're surrounded by Success special social meteorite. Everyone just put all their great achievements. But they're kinda struggling to find their way you know and What what what they ended up telling me was. I got to meet more people right. I got. I got to figure out what i wanna do. Young guy twenty two years old. I got to figure out what i want to do. I'm going to meet more people got to college and thought i'm going to join these social club stevia college all right making an effort and then came away saying i tried to meet people but after class. You know you know how you because you went to college after class. You're gonna mosey up to a couple of guys you wanna say hi to her. Whatever you guys want to go for a beer you know wasn't out of a considerable lecture. Or whatever or or trying to try to nudge alongside a girl or meets up and he said that everyone says they left. It got into their phones and had no interest in talking to walking from like everyone walks the hallways looking into their phones so we can keep complaining about it right. We can keep being disgusted by and this story you know going. You gotta be kidding me. You've got to be kidding me. It's like an astronaut. tv. You're going to be the next guy to land on the moon guard. No passing. i got twenty thousand dollars instagram. I'm going to do that for yup. And do stupid tic tac videos but but it's reality so well it's the reality but it's still not a big sample size. It's just surprising when stuff like this. Happens you wow everybody listening right now. I'm in for over a thousand bucks to play men's hockey this winter like i. That's i enjoy playing hockey that much. That i'm willing to make that investment and And and go out and still play the game because a lot you'd have to think that somewhere along the way he just fell in love with the sport. I don't i don't see being social media influence or as being such a draw that many pro hockey players right we'll bail specifically for that. It'd be nice to know his full story. Maybe you know mitt overbearing. Parents or coach didn't like someone who just smashed the love of talk yet of his head and just decided to turn his back on hockey. And not so much that i love social media influencing i just wanna do something else. Now yeah you bring up a great point you know of the seven hundred and fifty players or whatever. There are a year who play You've seen these you've seen these breakdowns of of you. Know the odds of you making the nhl and how many kids start out doing it. And you know so it's thousands and thousands and thousands. Okay who are eighteen year olds okay. So let's do the math thousands and thousands thousands of you. Don't have a shot okay right. You're not you're not going to be able to do it. Surely some of them who do end up there steve goo gotta be because of.

"By the way my thought earlier about how we're just I wonder about alienating certain listeners. Who are of a certain age. Don't fully appreciate the seventy two summit series right point. I wanted to make on that. Was that for example. The rcaf flyers they were based here in ottawa. They were a senior amateur canadian team and they went and won the national senior. Title the allan cup and then they later on when the gold medal for canada at the winter olympics. Eighteen forty eight pretty impressed story there. Grab that from now yeah. I don't think anybody listening right now. Would appreciate that in the least. Just because time has marched on and leaves these wonderful sporting moments In the rear view mirror. And i feel like the way that i feel about the rcaf. Flyers is probably how a lot of our listeners currently are feeling when we bring up the seventy two summit series not really rattle appreciation for just based on age. Yeah you will be stevie the the big this gaming thing right. This just in right is huge. Everyone's heard now where the gamers video gamers where they have. These tournaments steve where people packed arenas to watch these guys game you know. And they're making e. sports. It's and i think it includes not only like guys playing actual sports like Nhl twenty twenty two or whatever but it also includes them playing warcraft against each other and things like that right. Yup so that'll be the what you know that these kids now in twenty years from now the kids who are eighteen nineteen twenty and twenty years from now going well. Let's not forget. You know that. That guy from egypt who won the first gaming title or some you know. I don't know if it's a territorial thing. I it's just obviously it's not so much change right with social media right and the internet. So maybe maybe there won't be. Things appreciated down the road like like they are for us when we look back. You know that sports thing is fascinating to meet that my son for example. He really enjoys watching youtube video of somebody else. Playing mario brothers my kids to interesting when you bring that up and sometimes people will watch the various sports products. That are out there as far as ea sports and.

"Cold war and all that so i i fully understand when he stayed in you know at the time but you came to realize in the years to come. Big dealer was right. But but really this paul henderson grew legs. I was like i say it was an exhibition series. And and yet this thing. I would be in the unpopular opinion. Steve ovett that okay. I just you know should be in the hall of fame for it and my answer. All the time is no. It didn't know no. But anyway i'm wrong. I guess i'm you know. Most people think it was an extraordinary feat that he scored a goal against the russians in this series. Not just i goal scoring the game winning goal in game six. He's scored the game winning goal in game. Seven scored the game winning goal in game. Eight that last one being obviously way more famous than any other. Yeah i i guess i guess you know i never. I never glommed onto stevie. I never can't pretend to think it was the one of the greatest things in canadian hockey. You know i just don't i just don't i. Never you know. I think the series was. I think it was incredible. What they did to to get together and do this thing. And then for The russians to display The skill in canada's game stevie right this is this is nine hundred. Seventy two man. No one is going to ever be canadian team. This is ridiculous that they would put this series together. So i get that. I get that but just like why. Why paul vanish. What about all the other guys. What about all the other guy steve. Yeah you can all entertain a debate on paul henderson being in the hall of famer not one way or the other but what it won't entertain his anybody coming at me as though it was not a big deal what i remember. Most of it was my dad night. Collecting newspaper scraps basically buying all the newspapers. We could through the twenty eight days of this series and And his every game we watched in every game. We cut out newspaper. I don't know if i still have it anymore. All these clippings from papers and stuff. But i said i remember most about it it was supposed to be cakewalk for canada. We had an arrogance about us. Guys are game. We're the best at it and you know any olympic victories. The soviets had enjoyed over the years that came because all our best playing in the nhl right so suddenly they come in and they looked so good in the first game.

It's my go-to right away. Loud and clear you think not. I don't think that's a good idea. Whoever that was that loud stevie that loud you duck. You know it's embarrassing if you're with me if you're flying with you but i do that one. I don't think we're gonna continue that for the flight. Are we you pig. Go to the bathroom. See people are disgusting. One of the worst examples of that was and you'll see it every once in a while on. Tsn's top ten or something and it's it's a baseball game and the broadcast. Is the cameras trained on the batter. You can see in the background fans in the stands kind of on the first base side. Churn see guy in the background. The zoom in on it of course for the purposes of top ten list or something and some due to the mustache and he's wearing a t shirt with no sleeves and he goes to the armpits and starts rubbing the armpits. Oh no and then he goes like this off smelling it worse. He takes that same hand reaches over to his wife under her nose. Oh no like pulling the blankets over the dutch oven or whatever they call it. It wasn't disgusting enough. He just decided it was such a such an interesting original aroma that he had to share it with his wife off off the grossest things i've seen in sports girls can ever can. You can have your clint millar chuck. That was grocer. jesus okay. we're off to a gross. start to the shell. let's go let's get into things. It was actually on the state forty nine years ago james. Don't let like even in the locker room. Stevie some of it's really really you know when we worked at tsn twelve hundred with jr. there was always a a golden rule. It didn't seem to matter much but what was said on the air as you working there successfully for ten years would prove but there was always a rule you can't in this tiny little dusty studio. We had to work in right. You can't be in their passing wind. No you can't. You can't doesn't stinks. It's not just the fact that it stinks. We can all live through that. We've had kids know it's just something about it. i don't know it just. It's so disrespectful and But i think trying to decide which of our co hosts because you me and jr. We kind of broke up and fragmented off. You went back l. Berta jr whenever to bob fm. Somebody along the way. I don't know it was buzz or stew. Someone who filled in came in and drop one and it was like i wanted him terminated at that very moment they do it. They do it like the little the little. Chevy shire grinned comes over their face. You know like okay. Who was that okay. Who was that. It's the due to hold it up stevie like like like they've won the ryder cup. You know yeah as me really. Don't do it. "Thing to do to never forget, And that's a really important thing tomorrow that college football is going to be going on in baseball is going to be going on, and there's gonna be a few documentaries on TV and some coverage in some remembrances, but really, to really Dig down and remember, so that that's not a wasted moment that that's not just an event that happened 20 years ago that people forget about but that people really do remember how it happened and why it happened in And what we can take from that and to remember those that were lost in the people that still put their lives on the line every single day. For those reasons, it's really, really, really vital to tomorrow, just taking moment and I'll Never forget. My first job was in Fort Myers, Florida the spring after, So it was really 2002 that I got my first job and I was on the year September the 11th 2000 and two And I remember it being the first anniversary, and even then it felt quite detached. It was like, Wow, it's already been a year. You know things are kind of back to normal. And now I think about 20 years later. And there's an entire generation of people that have no idea what happened. I mean, of course, no it from history, books and videos and YouTube but didn't live in and It's It's absolutely vital to remember it and to think about it the same way our previous generations did about Pearl Harbor. And those who were lost in World War two and then the previous generation in World War one and and the previous generation of ours now in Vietnam, and those that have been lost to catastrophes and wars and putting their lives on the line. It is Of the utmost importance to remember that tomorrow, so I'm looking forward to going to Mets Yankees tonight at Citi Field because I'm sure there's going to be the start of this remembrance. And it's just a It's a time in New York City that's very pointed and very emotional. And it begins really weeks in advance. But it culminates tomorrow and this weekend and I wish 9 11 was a national holiday because I think it It demands that respect, but it doesn't have to be a national holiday to do your part in just Thinking about it and thinking of those think about those who we lost when we come back here on the D a show we are stunned to a news D, a CBS Sports radio. I had to wear block on it like a tried. The name at a couple of times. There's dislike you know there's an obvious name for it. Once you hear the song it'd be like all well. I would've named this but like i. Sometimes i just don't like doing that kind of like. I don't know where to leave this. Obviously like you know what. I'm not going to bother with it and that's where we ended up with that. Actually i kind of get back. Because i i right for new york city for for measor content and i have to title the articles i write sometimes and i always have trouble isn't is You do get a block it you got. You're talking about paul Detainment yeah he's got. He's got deals outside the cover bands at all. Oh quite a professional. I like him. I really like paul. I like you know we have our every couple of weeks. We have our our long pollen. Kristen we have an hour long kinda chat about whatever and sometimes it's a little more than that for dealing with something but we've had some had some good long conversations. I've purchase good about the guy. Ask so you are now in banff alberta and you re located. They're out of kingston nap. He just start working. Fulltime is an artist. So is that right. Yeah well. I kind of had a few reasons to move. You know when you grow up in your own hometown and you know i felt like i felt like i was kind of grow will need to grow basically and i felt like i could do it there and i wanted to want to leave my hometown in my dad. Had been bugging me saying you know. You should really get out of your hometown for a while. At least two made kind of thing and and He was kinda he said this long time ago and it never really resonated now is kind of dislike while i need to get out of here and see what the world has to offer and see if i can make it somewhere where did grow up because when you grow up somewhere you really kinda coddled and i didn't really have to try too hard to do anything and it was. Yeah i just felt like. I just needed to get out of there. Basically and the music scene in kingston is there's a lot of people that play music at kingston. There's not a lot of bands. That tour were from kingston and really like they. Don't they play in kingston and they don't leave basically and a lot of the musicians. I was hanging around there. They they they wouldn't the. I think the thought of who were was scary to a lot of people. And i was just i was in another band called a dying race from two thousand three two thousand seven and that's all we did was tour.

"Patrick marlowe is the record holder now. Most games played passing the great gordie. Howe is patrick. Marlowe now hall of famer now that he has this record. Should the guy be in the in the hall of fame. I couldn't think of a bigger reason that he shouldn't be. I can't think of any other reason that he shouldn't be in the hall of fame. I'm not sure what you're saying. You're saying he should be in the hall. I sure what i'm saying either. I know what i'm saying. Some double negatives in there. I'm not sure what you're saying. He should be in the hall of fame. Hand okay handsome. That's the number one reasons what i'm saying or right up there in your top five. That guy should be in the hall of fame. You know that he surpassed one of the greatest players of all time in games like particularly if you read why. They think he did it. Steven one of the things was this unbelievable dedication. The guy had to play hockey and committing his life. You know one of the things he did. Steve was He was home for the birth of one of his kids. Or i don't know how many kids yes and He chartered a plane to get back to join the team. After you know like like jumped on a plane to get back there and you know most guys mike to grab a day or two here before back and maybe it doesn't sound like much but that's pretty good. That's pretty good. But they talked about his skating. Ability is like none other But but this devotion that he had to the game and fitness and everything else to stay in shape. So i think you know anytime steve. There's no doubt about whether guy should be in the hall of famer. Not my attitude is just put him in then right. Just put them in right. We've starting to argue about a guy heads or tails of whether he should be in then. Just roman i don't have any issue with it if they do deem that he belongs in there. Because of a games played record I guess just to play devil's advocate. I would say the just playing isn't enough. I think you need to have gone through a fair stretch of your career where regarded as at least one of the best in the game Like he was never nominated. Never i think he's only top ten for the hart trophy one time. In his entire million year career he finished ninth one year in the hart trophy voting. And so i think there has to be some level of excellence beyond just playing And it was that old adage is is the hall of fame so the whole a very good and i think that's where patrick marlowe slides in. I'm not really digging my heels in and this that would just be my counter in maybe put a thing in there like Like a little shrine that says. Hey patrick marlowe play more games than anybody else and maybe mention you know three or four other guys in this little room at the hall of fame. Just like paul henderson. I think paul henderson belongs there. In some capacity for what he did in the summit series. And seventy two. Even if you don't decide to put him for his playing career as an actual member of the hall of fame. There should be a shrine. There that features paul henderson for what he did there. The same is true marl. Yeah it's kind of like the fourth star you know Maybe maybe there should be stevie. So maybe you don't get the category of inductee but you get the honorable mention category right at that. There's you know here guys who couldn't get in But here's what they accomplished. And this is who it is patrick. Marley did this right That might not be a bad idea..

"Tom brown who would work game one or serie game. Two and ted disallow keep this in mind disallowed. The goal by vladimir petrov was working game seven and game seven with a much much cleaner game. Both teams were really flying. Play was going back and forth. This would have been one of the greatest game ralph backstrom ever played in his career. He ended the game with tools and assist And so with Minute thirty to go in the game. the scores tied for all candidate again to win and so time brown. A louis stop blew the whistle. Stop the play with one. Thirty two to go in game and also send you saw jerry. Cheever's go racing out of his net and starts smashing his stick against timekeepers glass and pointing at the scoreboard and a lot of other. A lot of the fans and journalists were pointing the scoreboard. Apparently the clock while the clock ran for four seconds after the whistle was blown from one. Thirty to down to one twenty eight. Tom brown the canadian referee says he looked up and saw the clock. Run from one thirty to one twenty eight. So we ordered the time keeper to put two seconds back on the clock The timekeeper said that wasn't possibly couldn't reset the clock so brown really upset at this point ordered two seconds on the penalty box clock and ordered the run. Those two seconds down before you start the The main clock again so canada. Do desperate at this point They're were still arguing with referee but two additional seconds and that is really important but brown would not put any more time on the clock with a to go jerry. Cheever's races out of the net. Paul henderson jumps on as the sex attacker on the ice for canada at this point is their best line through the series ralph backstrom in for mark and gordy howe. Bobby hall's at point. Jc trump at the other. Point and paul henderson soc- paul henderson is the sixth attacker. The sobe are trying to clear the puck out of the room zone. "It was the team was very upset. They weren't happy with the rooms. They were not exactly to north. American standards Billy harris was upset at missing the practice. They did get a work then the following morning. Which was the day of game. Five of four game ply. Billy harris went back to his lineup. That had one game two. With one exception bruce mcgregor who had done an excellent job killing penalties he. He and paul henderson were superb. Penalty killers had caught a terrible flu bug in scandinavia and Was too sick to play so. Tom webster replaced him but game. Five was was a disaster for the canadians. You look at the score three to you. Think craig why are you saying that while jerry. Cheever's played one of the greatest. Maybe the greatest game of his career that night. He had the soviets talking to themselves. He was so brilliant. I don i do. Have jerry jones with me. And i'm very tired jerry jeepers. I don't know if you've ever had to suffer games and that the jury end the holman there for so long so early but was based on my view club and yet the only one you know we've opera seven days and time adjustment and all that doesn't factor definitely but we come back a little stronger in the third period just came to jerry for myself definitely. Yes they're an excellent team. And i think we're a little stale thinking that goes being super but outside achievers and line of ralph backstrom how and mark how nobody else for. Canada really showed up They seem to be struggling playing on the big ice Really mentally out of sorts and the soviets utterly dominated the action from from the from the time the first with the puck was dropped so for the first time in the series candidate was now trailing and making game six all the important because if they lost game six they could not win the series. They could the best they could do is tie it so it was a really disappointing effort. billy harris was also very concerned with two other players. He's in game five. Mike walton had led the whm scoring the year before and he he had not had a good training camp. He played well in games. One and two in his play then began to fade and his play was so terrible in game five he just simply given up and billy harris decide the benjamin frank maha which had played terrible as well and the big m had not had a good series and seventy two and he just seemed to be really rattled. emotionally playing the soviets. I have this right. The only had four on goal through the first periods of that game five. I think they had four shots in each period. Each period okay. It's still hardly anything to help backup. Cheever's who can only do so much sitting in the goal he can't he can't.
