"Before those conversations were happening within the media talk a little bit about what that first trade potentially does. To maybe the confidence level in Kevin Adams. Not just from this fan base, but I think if you're Teri and Kim Pegula, who it appears, anyways, at least from the cameras have taken a bit of a hands off approach and have given Kevin Adams and his new team, a front office members, the power and the ability to make the decisions and run this franchise the way that they believe that needs to be ran. How much confidence does this give you and maybe You feel the fan base and the confidence that they felt about Kevin Adams after? I think I don't want to say a police job, but it certainly felt like the Sabres one that trade going away. They did. And you know, this is the jury's still out on, Kevin. You know, I I'm we just don't know. You know how he's gonna react. I mean, last year, A lot of his decisions were made by Ralph Krueger. Ralph Krueger wanted certain players, Kevin Adams went out and got them. Kruger was given way too much leeway in power when it came to that, and that's over with now. It is Kevin on the show and him and Karmanos in in cahoots together, and and they go over everything, and it is his show. As far as all the things that went on. I mean, Kevin Adams has a vision. And I always say with the GM, whether I agree with the vision or not, I admire a GM that doesn't listen to me. Doesn't listen to me. Me, the media. Doesn't listen to the fans. He has a vision of what he needs to do, and he goes out and executes it, and that's what the GM needs do. We can't be wishy washy can't be sitting there going well, I do this so the fans going to get mad at me, or am I going to get killed on Twitter? Or you know that kind of thing? He has to have a vision for what he thinks. His vision doesn't include Jack Eichel. I mean, Jack Eichel's injury as part of this, Yes, but I quite honestly, I think, Kevin and be trading Jack Eichel, if there was no neck injury, um I just don't think he sees that as his vision of Guys that want to be in Buffalo guys that are all about, you know, team. I think there's a There's a lot of entitlement in that locker room that he's trying to get out of there. And, um, you know, and so you know, I think Really It was, if you if you really boil it down. I think it was Adam's decision that they need to move on from Jack Eichel and move on as a franchise and you know, a lot of things need to be changed, and he I think he felt that was one of them. Paul Hamilton joining me here on the West. Her hotline We have our sports talk Saturday extended NHL draft coverage where until three p.m. today If you miss any of our guests, Of course, you could go to w gr 5 50 dot com Or write through the Odyssey app and go to and demand audio. Paul, I want to talk to you a little bit about the reported trade that went down last night of Sam Reinhart going to the Florida Panthers. It hasn't been finalized. Yet. There's a lot of speculation that the Sabres maybe waiting until the draft kicks off again this morning to officially make the trade call and announced the return on that Sam Reinhart trade. But before we get into the details of the trade, I'm interested in your thoughts about his fit in Florida and Joel Quenneville's system there. Yeah, I I think Sam Sam's a smart player. I mean, there's no question about that. That's one of his strengths. So I don't think Sam would have any problem fitting into any Any system, and I believe the Sabres have made their pick. They did. They made the selection and it's pro core. Pull to POV. If I pronounced that correctly, 18 year old left winger. Six. Ft. Hey, Paul, It's a Russian forward forward, Okay? We were just talking about that last night, and they must have been listening. I mean, here we go. You, you, you You said that Kevin Adams shouldn't be listening to you or to social media. And here we are in the first pic on day two. Uh So, Yeah, he's looking up here. 25 Gold 27 assists in 61 games. Uh, so in the M H. L. Some nice size on him to six ft. I mean, specifically looking back at Rosie because Rosen's not the largest guy right that the guy they took 13th overall, our 14th. I should say, Yeah, that's the thing is size. But boy is a nifty player. You know, I was watching a lot of highlights. It is and He just has a lot of skill. They saw that skill when they they had, like five scouts at the under Eighteens, and he he scored seven goals and nine points in seven games. And a lot of it and what you would call spectacular fashion. You know, just real nice skill type of goals. But yeah, the sizes and he talked about it yesterday that he's you know, doing a lot of weight lifting and trying to get himself stronger. He understands that You know he's played with and against men, and he understands that he's going to have to get bigger and stronger. But from a skill standpoint, certainly he's not lacking a man at all. Say, um Paul going back to the Sam Reinhart discussion a little bit here and and his fit in Florida. You know, I guess the thing for me that I find interesting about this trade. Um is, you know ultimately The view of Sam Reinhart within the organization within the fan base. I do think there's a there's probably a sentiment amongst the fan base that feels that Reinhardt was underrated a player that maybe wasn't appreciated as much for the things that he did on the ice because I do think that there was a level of distraction and sort of the way that He Don't know, approach things off of the ice, particularly within the media. So I think there was kind of a disconnect there between the player that he was on the ice and the player that he portrayed himself to be particularly this last this last season, right where I think the most recent seasons going to end up sticking in the minds of most people about his last year in Buffalo, and he just didn't really seem like he very much wanted to be here, particularly at the end. So like With that attitude, potentially going into that Florida locker room with a very veteran coaching Queen Villa team that, you know, ended up going up a few games in Tampa and then kind of blowing a two. Nothing lead against the Lightning in the playoffs this year. Do you believe he's a player that helps them get to the next level?.

Ralph Krueger Kevin Adams Paul Hamilton Kim Pegula Teri Sam Reinhart Jack Eichel Joel Quenneville Kevin 13th 61 games Reinhardt Queen Villa 14th Reinhart Paul Florida Panthers nine points Kruger last year

"Paul Hamilton is the the reporter for a team that has millions of fans. It is so ridiculous how many people he has blocked on Twitter over the most ridiculously stupid things. The man needs to grow up to have a little bit thicker skin now w g R Sports radio 5 50. Paul standing by will be joining us right now on the Western hotline. His appearance is brought to you by Equitable advisors. Planning for your future is about more than just money. Let equitable be your guide by relax on to relax. We got this. And congratulations are very on Paul Hamilton because he was the first guy in with a question on the zoom call yesterday. Very good. Well done. Well done, Mr Hamlin. What does that mean? You were on like an hour early, reserving that spot. Just kind of worked out that way. All right, Well, I just thought you're eager and ready to get going. So that was awesome. Um, you know, amidst the backdrop of never getting, too carried away from any press conferences anymore. But Granados here's pumped right? It was really I mean, and I completely understand why he finally has his first real full time head coaching job. And you could. I think you could hear the excitement in his voice yesterday. Yeah, I'm one of the interviews me. I think maybe on our station. Uh, we show from the bulldog. He said he would have been really disappointed if he didn't get the job. You know, he really This is the job he wanted. And, uh, if that would not have come his way, he would have been, uh Pretty disappointed and upset about it. Even though Kevin Adams talk to a lot of people he had mentioned somewhere in the zoom call yesterday, Paul that he had what HL coaches, college coaches, European guys, former NHL head coaches. So, um, I guess two part question. Why do all of that When it sure seemed like this was going in the Granado direction, right? It would have been a major upset if it wasn't Granado correct. Because he wanted to see what was out there. I mean, alright, Granados, the standard and if you want to coach the Buffalo Sabres You're going to have to impress, Uh Adams, uh, and come on, owes more than don Granado has. So you know, there was one standard plus, he wanted to talk to, but a tough bunch of different coaches with different backgrounds. Just to talk about the team. And hear what they have to say about the team. And he thought that was important. It's almost like doing research on your own team. Self scouting. Maybe so to speak, and to learn, learn more about your team. And just, you know, if maybe they might have some ideas you never thought of so he wanted to do that also do a little due diligence on his team. And I bet you they're probably some guys. He talked to that He might have had no intention of hiring, but he just wanted to hear their opinions on different things. I think one of the interesting things about Granado. Um Of course. I think a lot of people felt good about the very small sample size. But one of the interesting things again getting to philosophy and how how do how do they teach? And how do they make this team better? Is the idea of having a pre season? You know, the guy got the job in the middle of the season, not only in the midst of the season, but also at a time when the schedule was not a normal schedule. They were jam packed. They were playing all bunch of games. It was a tighter schedule for them because of the the the Covid Shut down. They went through. So what do you think? Well, what kind of an opportunity is that for Granado, who will have a full preseason and plenty of practice time to put his stamp on what he would like to see the Sabres do Well, that's what he meant at the end of the season when he was on zoom when he was talking about All right. You've seen a little bit of what kind of coach I am. But there's more to come more that you haven't seen. And I had wondered. Well, what haven't we seen and that that that's what he talked about that you know there was really you know, we saw practices. But you know, very often as practice right after a game with a game coming up, and there's only so much you can do in a practice like that, because You have to be careful not to take all of the energy out of your team and Um so I That's what he meant by that that there'll be more teaching moments more time to, uh, practice some things that he'd like to maybe try and games that he maybe couldn't throw out the team. Before because they really didn't have the time to go through it all. So, um, that's what he's going to be able to do, You know, correct different things in practice that maybe they could only do on film. Because they didn't have the practice time to be able to do it on the ice. Paul With US savers, questions, comments, Opinions. Phone lines are open 80305 50. There's a good chance he'll have to find a new captain, among other things to do next season. So I'm curious about this. And I know it's kind of a difficult question to answer because we don't know how the roster will look come opening night, but when he turns to leadership core Leadership Council vet whatever players he needs to lean on, Uh, as he takes this head coaching job on a full time basis. Where do you go for that next season? Because a couple of three of the older players might all be gone off the roster, including the captain, who would he turned to, uh, for, you know, players internally guiding some of the other guys. No, that's easy. Kyle oppose so already is Um Casey middle status, talked about what a mentor. He's been to him ever since he's shown up here. Um, you know, and so Kyle's, you know, still very, very good with that off the ice but leading other players and.

Okay, well, congratulate track of it and 15 months, seven days, seven hours and 42 minutes. Paul, we've been, uh you know what? When you were on not too long ago, I asked you about Big games at Nassau. And if Lindy Ruff getting but ended by Billy Smith is one of maybe the the biggest Sabres game ever there. I think we might talk about if not, though it's just a great atmosphere is kind of I want you to reset that a little bit after last night, because it is truly when you say old barn like I think that's what comes to mind when I hear the words old barn and teams playing in an old barn and obviously it could have been the last game there ever last night. We don't know depends what happens in Game seven. But either way, the atmosphere just truly jumps out at you. I know you haven't visited a ton as you said, but I think last night just showed why a place like that is truly special in hockey. I hated that place until they remodel it, And once they remodeled it, I liked it a lot better. Um, but, yeah, there was not one of my favorite venues to go to and There haven't been too many times. I've been there where there have been all that many people there because you know it's been regular season games. They did have a playoff series when Ted Nolan was the coach. But that really wasn't crazy for the fans because the Sabres pretty much dominated that series. I believe they want it in five. If I'm not mistaken, So, um, you know, and then you go back to what you were talking about in the era and and there was a series. I believe the Sabres might have been won the first two games and then lost the next four. But that would have been back. What what you're talking about when Billy Smith was around and and you know that type of thing. I would not have been in there for that. So yes, I have seen the playoffs there for two games. Um, remember the the Ted Nolan series just from the fact you just never know what Ted, No one is going to be able to do to motivate a team. And you knew the Sabres were a much better team. That was the Briere Drury era. And he knew the Sabres were a much better team, but she I don't know. For me. It was a little uneasy thinking, you know, what's Ted Nolan gonna dream up here and You know, he always seems to have something and he always seems to be able to get a teamed overachieve and you wondered what might come to that. But the Sabres one that one easily.

"It's Paul Hamilton Be reporter for a team that has millions of fans. It is so ridiculous how many people he has blocked on Twitter over the most ridiculously stupid things continue to grow up. He could have a little bit thicker skin w gr Sports Radio 5 50. Good morning, 7 35 Year on W Charlotte, break from our football chatter, toe. Checking on the hockey team in the off season. That's AH. Well upon us for the sabers and Approaching decisions on coach and of course roster our very own. Paul Hamilton joins us on the Western Hotline, Paul Good morning. Hey, guys, How are you? Good. You're also going to be with us Just doing this show Thursday and Friday, which, you know, I mean, it's exciting, Paul. We're gonna talk about Kelly a lot to catch up on. You know, we can't talk about the Mets. Howard's not that. I know. We can talk about the Yankees because you'd be wasting your time. You gotta make Howard mad talking about. We could always just call Howard and bug him That way. Maybe all right. Well, anyway, Paul, um, you were up watching Winnipeg and Edmondson that late game Yeah, I made it triple overtime. Okay. What time was the goal scored. Was about two in the morning. Close. Yeah. I don't know exactly what time it was score, But it was it was it was It was in that area somewhere in there. Now What I saw in terms of evaluation of that game was that the third overtime it was really bad hockey because they also played the night before, writes back to back nights. Those two teams and a triple overtime game that basically it wasn't exactly the best the NHL had to offer. Yeah, I mean the shots. Usually by then you should be up in the 60 seventies. That type of thing, so the shots weren't is Weren't there. Ah, there. There weren't as many good opportunities is maybe you would want And you could tell there was fatigue And in that game, definitely, uh, that you know, both teams were showing it. Yeah, well, Winnipeg wins kind of hell. A book is ah, tremendous for them and won't like a said Minton's goaltending might leave a little to be desired, and they they end another season. I mean, a little bit. Not quite exactly the safe for small because the sabers will make the playoffs. But Edmund Kean is gonna be facing another season of underachievement right, not getting far enough with the likes of some of the best players in the sport on their team. Yeah. And make David he was a little bit better in games three and four, but He turns the park over for the game winning goal, you know, coming in down the left wing side turns it over. The Jets are bang, bang up ice fucking the net! You're best guy, you know, let you down there so It's interesting for the Leafs. I mean, if the least get through Montreal They will have played the 16th ranked team in Montreal and then moved on to play the 14th ranked team in Winnipeg. You know, As far as that goes so and right now, Toronto would have been ranked sixth overall. If you do the standing, so it's it won't be. You know, it's far as the teams that they're playing, They aren't exactly playing the class of the NHL playoffs. Well, Paul we for the sabers. We've got the draft lottery next week, and that'll be While we're used to it. I feel like it used to be exciting. And now it's just like this thing that we do every year, but last time they won the lottery was Rasmus Stallion. You've got a piece up on our website about his improvement over the course of the season. With the change from Ralph Krueger to Don Renato. So, you know in in watching him this year, whether it's the numbers through his own play through his own mood, it seems like everything got better. Ah, lot of the players started to get better results in Darlene is probably at the top of the list up there with middle stat and a couple others in terms of You could see it in their play. You could probably see it in their face in the way the cake. How Hockey team seemed like it was more fun for a lot of players and Darlene at the top of the list. Yeah, if you just go by points. I think some people would be surprised because under Kruger, he had 11 points in 27 games under Granada. We had 12 points in 26 games. Ah, and and I'm sorry 28 games with Kruger 27 with Granado on one with Adams. Esso in points. It was pretty even but I think you need to go further than that. I think you have to look at what was generated. When he was on the ice. He was generating offense. He was pushing offense. He was making teams account for him. Where is under Kruger. They didn't have to account for him because he stayed back or Didn't lead the rush. The That was the thing that really drove me crazy that you know he would bring the puck up ice. And as soon as you got the right on, he was looking to pass every time. I mean, every time And he totally ignored any talent he might have as far as carrying the puck under Granato, Granato. You know, realize that what is Darlene do best. He carries the puck well when it when he's coming up on the rush, so he would lead the attack into the zone. And if he didn't very often, he would join in as 1/4 guy late. And cause problems that way. So you know, it's not just points that you're talking about. It's what can be generated when he's out there and by doing all that I thought he was better defensively. You know he had to go out and Granado used him in situations where he's out against the best other team's best. Forwards, even if it didn't work out real well, he didn't give up on it. It's like, okay. It didn't work. This shift. Go out there. Here. This is why it didn't work now go out there and You know, do it again. You know, and stuck with him and him and Yoki Har U. S. O, You know where they were better defensively and they weren't up tight to go out and play against the Crosby line or somebody like that. And a lot of you know, I think a lot of what you saw with Darlene and he said it is, you know, He felt like he was trusted with Granado and you know he didn't feel that way with Kruger, and then he would be uptight and he would start making mistakes and the mistakes would build and the stakes would build and they'd keep building and they get worse and he'd get worse. And it was just a vicious cycle where It's funny how he talked about, you know, he had fun coming to the arena. You know, all of a sudden he liked coming to the arena wasn't drudgery. Um, he goes Granada Granada coaches the way he was taught to play when he grew up. And that's the thing with Coronado. He uses what you do well. And then brings that to the table instead of trying to force feed something to you that you don't do well and makes you play worse. And I think about Darlene and I mentioned this to Granato in our last conversation with him that when Darlene came here to Buffalo, he said that he liked playing defense. He started his career playing forward and wanted to play defense because Defense, he said. He felt like the game came through him. He got to control it, You know, quarterback the game from the back and That had disappeared from his game. Paul I really controlling and run the game through him, and I feel like that's ultimately where the sabers should want to get with him is is get to a spot where he is controlling a game for, you know, 25 minutes a night or what, it zloty in minutes, but it's about when he's on the ice kind of he's in charge from back there. But there were times he Woz You know, as he was, you know, getting better and and moving the puck and bringing it up ice and then getting it in the offenses own and not being afraid to. Get a cycle going and and not just be a statue back at the at the point. Moving a little bit, you know, making himself available. Sometimes you would see him down in the way left wing corner, you know, and it is, You know, they were rotating and moving and getting in on a four check in I'm trying to be a part of it or him trying to sneak in to make a backdoor play and make himself available that way. All those things that put stress on the other team as they're trying to defend. Well, Hamilton joining us here on the west. Her hotline is we Chat about the sabers of it. His appearance brought you by equitable advisers..

"Get one final thought from Paul Hamilton. Paul will don Granado seem to be ah, more critical than Dylan cousins was, I guess as expected, the coach normally would have that attitude, but I think he's right on. I mean, he hated the six on three said very little Net presents and I like his attitude of hay that we get to look in the mirror and then measure ourselves here these next two games, which is kind of a nice thing that I do like about these, You know, two and three games sets that the NHL has in the schedule this year. And this is a team. You've got to come with your best for most of the game, and the sabers came with their best in portions of the game, but not enough and You know, you spot this team two goals. You're gonna make it extremely difficult on yourself, especially with to corral standing on his head and net. And you know, playing the way he did. So, um And again the six on three You've got to give the Bruins a little bit of credit there to the way they killed it. But you know, the sabers has done great, Honest said they were just looking for the easy way of times on duh. You know it wasn't there for him, and then when they did bear down and get some chances, Rask was their toe cut it off. So and even the savy made before the cousins save on risk the line in Regional line and was right on the doorstep. He made that save and then it came across two cousins and absolutely robbed him. But that wasn't an easy save, either that he made on that one. Well, thanks for your work tonight. We'll see here Thursday with the sabers of the Bruins again. Sounds good. Okay, great. "Jack Eichel. I think you have to listen to that. Because If someone like I think you can very easily lose a trade. Involving Jack Eichel. It's hard to win a trade involving Jack Eichel. But if someone pushes enough stuff into the center of the table for you Where it starts to be a real legitimate conversation like we might actually get better if we get this piece in this piece and this piece and whatever else and that's the kind of trade I think you're talking about. If you're involving Jack Michael Um, you're talking about multiple pieces. Um, if someone gets To the point where it's lucrative enough. You know, you never get to find that out. If you're not at least listening. Right. If you're not if you're not considering if you're not open TOC hearing what someone might want to offer you then. You are making a mistake in that you're not avail yourself of an offer that might be too good to turn down. Like an offer where you could win the trade that I think is unlikely, but You at least have to listen. I mean, that's that's part of the job. So I think there's any harm in listening on Jacko you It doesn't necessarily mean you want to move him or you're eager to move them. It just means If someone gets to a threshold where we have to consider it, then you know then then the real conversation starts. Um, but you never get to that point. If you're not listening, so Um, I'm not alarmed by that at all. I'm not surprised to hear it. In fact, I sort of have expected that that would Pippen the case all along here. Um, Anyway, thank you for the call Tom. Appreciate it. Gave up one early in the third one halfway through the third and then One late It, Uh, it looked like it was over stage. Thompson. Is kind of rushing into this into the flyers and dives at a loose puck, and it looks like it's going in. It just misses the post and goes wide. And then they come back the other way, and within seconds it's in the Buffalo net. And it ties it in three. And then in the overtime. I mean, could you have predicted that? Any easier that you figured I'd you know, after the sabers blew a three nothing lead. Would Philadelphia finish it off? And of course they did. It's now 18. Consecutive games. The sabers have not won. And that is I mean, that's just not good for sure. But how do you do? You blow a three? Nothing lead. Against a team that has not played well and you're struggling against Just be slightly okay in the third. Amazing. Right. We'll be heading the locker room here in just a moment. We'll get Paul Hamilton's take here is well. As sabers blow this one, but Where we get into the live locker reaction. Let's Ah We have Paul Hamilton here. I think we we may. All right, let's bring in Paul..

"It three to that's your final 32 Bruins all the moments of the game brought to you by first jewelers. moments in your life go forth to Firth. We'll get our scoreboard check in a moment. But let's bring in Paul Hamilton, now with His thoughts here. Paul. It was there for the taking, and of really bad third period ruined it for him. Yeah, well, the Bruins were ahead for Three minutes and 50 seconds in that game. And that's it. They took the lead for the first time at the 16 10 mark. I hated the goal. I hated the place started with middle statues kind of waving it. It's Smith in the neutral zone is he went by very poor effort there. And I, you know you go into the zone Reaching and preachy Richie and creature outwork everybody. And the sabers air around. You heard Kyle Pole, So say you got five guys, basically where they're supposed to be. But by that time everybody staring at the park. Well, what What if I always talked about for how many years now Awareness And nobody has any clue that Smith jumped in there. So whether you call it bad luck, Bad bounces. Whatever you want to call it. I call it creature working hard in the crease, giving the puck out to Smith. There He is, by himself and everybody. Everybody park watching. And You know that That stuff wasn't happening in the 1st. 40 minutes. I mean, what did we talk about? At the end of the second intermission that You know you got it can't go into the third period and have the hope that Lena saw Mark's going to stand on his head. And get to the game He almost did. I mean, he faced 15 shots in the third period he gave up to go or you know that the two goals But still made 13 say's while the other kids stands at the other end, what does he have to do? He stands there and makes three saves.

"Two to nothing lead on the buffalo sabers. We welcome you here to the intermission. Report. Brian Cole's deal with you, Paul Hamilton in just one moment. Gerald McCann scoring early on the power play a minute. 27 in has Dylan cousins went for hooking, and the Penguins took advantage on the man advantage and have a to nothing lead. Pittsburgh out shooting Buffalo 9 to 5 in period number two. The pens hold a 21 to 20 edge overall saber power play continuing to struggle there now officially zero of three in this game. And I mentioned the Penguins goal. There They are. One of two Dustin Tocar ski is in goal 21 shots. 19 saves Casey to Smith 20 shots 20 saves. He's a period away from his third career shutout against Buffalo. For more on period, too. Let's get to Paul Hamilton now. All If this myth finishes this off what That would be three out of four career starts with Shut out, zah pretty impressive number well. Hey, tell you the places teammate No, they're in for an easy night. The goaltender knows he's in for although the first period wasn't an easy period for him, second period was a breeze. It was back to saber hockey in the second period. Sabers decided 20 minutes. A good taki was enough. And second was back to regular saber hockey. But you know you're a zlotys. You stay away from number 55. You won't get hit there. You know you won't have a hard game front of then that's gonna be easy. You could look like the Harlem Globetrotters passing the puck around. Evan Rodriguez looks like Wayne Gretzky for two games. You know, it's Z. Well, half their team looks like Wayne Gretzky. Quite honestly. McCann tonight looks like Wayne Gretzky. They just basically condone anything they want, and it's You know, that's that's what I mean. It's It's not just a quick fix with a Sprinkle in a player too. They're They're like 15 players and have to say goodbye to this team. Yeah. Let's go to the goal. Paul Cousins takes down Crosby, which leads to an early power play, Um what you see on the play, McCann ends up alone in the middle and gets a quick shot off. Yeah, Miller can't get the puck out. I mean, he has an opportunity to get it out. Crosby keeps it in and it's like Tang and then McCann goes down right down the slot. Nobody there. I mean, it's just he just breaks the box and As a good crease to come down. He's wide open just like You know, the first goal was wide open for the horny to get his first NHL goal. And now you're down to nothing. Just a minute 27 into the second period and With this hockey club Now they did come back from two against the Rangers. But that almost never happens. And we mean when the When you're playing another team yellow team gets up by two. You basically know the game's over. You know Paul Hamilton here with me, Brian cozy. We're through two periods, and it's too nothing Penguins. The sabers were out shot in that second period by a 9 to 5 total. Call later in the period. Crosby went for high sticking, and he got up and Kind of voice his displeasure. But on the replay looks like Miller actually pushed the stick right into his face is that Assad crosses that's that's a veteran play, Take the stick and slam it into your into your shield. Veterans know how to do that, and you'll get to call lot and Crosby knew exactly what he did. And The old City. Crosby would have gone berserk. I mean, this one. You know Cindy's kind of grown up a little bit, and he just kind of shook his head and laughed and said the ref, Come on. You didn't fall for that, did you? The oldest trick in the book. Yeah, He also probably Paul doesn't have much concern that maybe this has a huge effect on the game. That could be a two. Well, yeah, he knew he needed to save her score. He knows they're gonna be all right. I mean, they basically You know, can do whatever they want. And even when the sabers did have a nice period in the first period, they put 15 shots on goal and had some good opportunities had traffic if the net had some tips in front with with screens And still, the Smith was able to make the saves. Some of them were lucky. Some of them weren't and you know they had their opportunities to get it in the second period. I'm going through my notes. Reinhardt. I think ripped one wide, but Maybe two opportunities, Probably one. I mean not too many good a scoring opportunities for the sabers in the second. Anything of note from C. J. Smith or Stephen Fogarty. We're seeing them in the line up here for the first time in a while. Don't forget He had a pretty good She blocked shot on a penalty kill C. J. Smith. I didn't even know was in uniform by from watching the game. I know he's in uniform, right? But less than I'll be fair, But he's played 805 Smith 5 22. I was gonna say three E was just going to say I'll be fair and say he's probably only played about three minutes in this game. Esso. He really, to be fair and honest. I kind of took a shot at in there. I mean, he hasn't really had a chance to get in the flow of this game at all. Yeah. Okay, Paul. Well, let's pretend that this game still is in doubt. One of the savers need to do here in the third. Now, listen a couple games ago what? They were down by two and then came out and got two right away. They eventually still lost the Rangers by two. But Um It's too nothing it it's the NHL. It still should be a game. So for this team, But let's pretend for a moment that it isn if you wanna, you know, play along here for a moment here, Well, do what you were doing in the first period. That's what you have to do. They had at least three or four very good tipped opportunities. Oleson head too, and I know Ryan are that one and I think there was another one. Where and why did they get those tipped opportunities because they went to the net. And they just unfortunately, the tips didn't go in. They want it going into Smith's pads. And then what have you so You know if you want to get back in this game, start getting those opportunity that you got in the first period where the goaltender, you know, make the goaltender earn his money and here he didn't have to earn his money in the first period. Now, in the 2nd 20 minutes, He basically stood around and did nothing like most goaltenders do against the sabers. So you know if you have any ideas of getting back into this game, make him earn his money and get around the net and start getting pucks and people to the net. And if the Sabre's don't do that, they will be looking at the winless streak pushing to 16 games. It will go to the LA Fontaine. It'll go from when he saved Jerry me into Pat LaFontaine. 15 to 16. That's right. It's definitely the best 16 17. Well, you know Du Mont Really? No. Not Fogarty. That didn't pop into your head, Paul. You should you could go with the first one. The first captain Floyd Smith, if you wanted to. That's true. You're not. You're not saying Stephen Fogarty. I was trying to set that up for you. All right? Yeah. Talk to you in post Paul. Thank you. All right. Paul Hamilton will be with me on the post game. We'll see if the sabers make a game of it here, But before we do that, we'll take a time out. Highlights in the NHL scores still to come here our score to nothing. Pittsburgh after two This is the Buffalo Sabers Radio network..

He had a little bit thicker skin w gr Sports Radio 5 50. For Tuesday and we're going to get the ball eight All three old 5 50 to join us. We'll get Paul Sauce in the NFC East will get into some sabers discussions as well. If you're just joining us. Good morning. How are you? Another beautiful day is on tap today. Paul said something about grilling for everybody. If you just show up in his house, Mr Hamilton is joining us in the Western hotline brought to you by equitable advisers. Planning for your future is about more than just money. Let equitable be your guide. Bye. Relax, Honda. Relax. We got this. Good morning, Paul. How are you? I'm well, how are you today? I'm good, Paul. So we'll get to the sabers. But I would love to get your thoughts on what we're discussing today to the A F. C East. Paul, What do you think? Bill's air. I assume you would still have them is the favorite. What's the gap? Who's the threat? Give me your give us a quick F C East thought at this point. I don't think much of changed. Really. I mean, the Patriots still have the same quarterback. I know they've Tried to improve the weapons around him a little bit, But you know, I don't I don't really see them as all that much different as far as a threat to the bills. And, you know, I still think it would be the Miami Dolphins. If anybody Were to be a threat to them, but again their quarterback situation. Uh, Was, you know, up and down. I wasn't totally impressed with it, and I don't know how much It'll probably get a little bit better, But so I really don't think it's changed all that much. Mr H s O. We'll take your calls on the FCS discussions able. Three. Oh, 5 50 phone lines are always open. You can join in. If you got a question about the savory shouldn't call in talk to Paul right now, so it didn't start really well. A few minutes in. Not that he's played that well this season, but they did lose their starting goalie it what, like three minutes into the game last night, and that's not obviously not what don Granada wanted to see happen at the beginning of the game. Yeah. Two saves and down. He went Rasmus first, a line in Carol ran one of the Rangers right into him. As you know, they were headed to the net. He grabbed him and kind of pushed him into him and Hunting you could tell was hurt right away, and he couldn't really put much pressure at all, if any, on the leg. Is once he got to the, uh, He kind of limped off over to the side. And once he got over to the place where he would have to walk, he had to be helped off the ice. So That certainly didn't look good. Probably was better for two car skiing that it happened that way. If it had to happen, it happened that way because It's only 2 53 in. He's pretty much still warmed up from warm up and he doesn't have to think about it's put your mask on. Go play. You know, it's it's like he don't have time to think about. You know, I haven't played Miss League since 2016. And this is this is my opportunity here and all that. It just there was no time to think it was just get in and go. Yeah, and he did. I was going to say I mean, there were some Rough moments. I thought for the most part he played. Well, um, I mean, he saw a lot more action than Keith Kincaid did. Would you make a tocar ski? Yeah, There really wasn't a goal that I thought, Wow, He should've stopped that or anything like that. It was Total breakdowns, bythe sabers that helped the Rangers get those goals. So I thought he was solid. To be quite honest, There wasn't a time where I thought, you know, you should have had that or whatever so Um, you know, I thought he looks like to me that he likes to get out and challenge. You know, shooters and get up on top of his crease and get out and challenge and, um it made some good saves along the way and I thought he was solid. The You know, Paul, we've we've been talking lately. At this point. I'm just I'm trying to find little positives in every game to take out so I found some from last night. Helen Cousins. Let's start there. He returns to the lineup, and he scores nice. Nice shot, actually, in tight from Dylan. He got rid of it right away to which is the reason I think he scored. Reinhart kind of TV it up for him, and he he got it and fired it. And it was right under the bar. And, you know, here's this kid these round of 16 gold pace for an 82 game season. It's got four goals and, Ah Uh, yeah. You know, I really, you know really impressive it and you know, it wasn't a perfect game for him. There were some mistakes, but it also You know, I thought overall played played. Okay? And I was a nice cool for him. Skinner scores a goal for the second time in third games, by the way, a nice girl for Jeff Skinner, and he had a couple of other great chances last night. Yeah, for a team that didn't spend much time in the offensive zone. He had six of their 19 shots. And Ah, just give you a little how bad it was for them. I mean the The Rangers had 40 shots on goal and the sabers had 42 attempts on goal. That's how bad it was..

"Paul Hamilton. That's what they called me. A college is the boat. He has no facts to back up his opinions. People ask me well, how the saber skin and then you'll win tonight. Have a clue not w gr Sports radio 5 50, Mr Hamilton joining us in a moment eight All three Oh, 5 50 phone lines rope and you can give us your opinion on the coaching change yesterday. And since the season resumes tonight continues to not, I guess I should say 28 games left. So what do you want to see over the last 28 games? Maybe it's about improvement on ice player's player usage. Or maybe it's more about trades. You can let us know, by the way. As we talk more about the coach change Coach Watch the sabers. Coach watch coverage on WJR is powered by Genentech Power Systems, your team for Generac, home generator, repairs, service and sales. So I guess he didn't win the $1 million Powerball that apparently the winning tickets sold here in Western York because Paul is with us. Maybe on the Western hotline brought to you by equitable advisers. Planning for your future is about more than just money. Let equitable be your guide. And by relax, Honda. Relax. We got this. You didn't. You didn't get the power ball ticket, Paul. Yeah, But, Howard, you're still working. And I mean, you're a multi millionaire. So, uh, totally takes you Wait. You're you're you're You're working on a two year $1 Million contract about 500 grand a year. It's about right. Yeah, that without you know, you're not throwing in bonuses and likely to burns incentives, right? Yeah. Thanks, Paul. I found an instant trivia. But we'll do it for another day. The number of different saber coaches Paul has covered in his career here. That's that's a more challenging instant trivia. But again, we'll save that for another day. Two. Yeah, um What if you were if you had a chance to talk to don Granado today or or don texted you and said, Hey, Paul, What's the first thing I should do? What would you tell him as he is now? Interim coach not sure how much he can change in 28 games and with limited practice, But what's the first thing you think he should do? I think there's things he can change. I mean, you know Take take the handcuffs off some of the younger players. I mean, it's I think it's important, you know, and, um, Adam's talked about this a little bit yesterday. You know some of the younger players You know, be able to get into the flow and Uh, maybe just relax a little bit. Help. Rasmus, Darlene and Henry Yoki. Are you and the future of this team guys that have been playing up tight and you know, just having been using their talents at all and have been just too worried about making a mistake. And, you know, just tell them Hey, Mistakes are made in the NHL. Don't let them compound is you're as you're going along and because these are going to be important pieces of your team as you move forward. Not just this year, but in years to come. And you know that these these guys have Tonto, you know, just just relax. I mean, I think that's with Darlene. Just watching him. He's just so uptight. You know, every time you want to do something, it was the wrong thing. And then the park wound up in the net. And, you know, he's the guy that has shown a little bit of emotion. I mean, he was the guy even after last game who smashed his stick after the game, and, um, you know, it's just been so frustrating for him. It was. You know, it's interesting. Paul listening to Kevin Adams yesterday when you were on with us yesterday, and you came on around. You know, 8 30 when the news broke and you're with us the rest of the show one of the things you talked about which I think I found interesting was how Dad. They look at practice and how practices or run and I found that interesting. And I guess you did, too. In the context of what the team needs to do better. What changes he'd like to see Kevin Adam's referred to how they practice. It really was, and it's just, you know, they couldn't complete a simple pass in the passing drill. You know, I would say at least 50% of the passes were either in the skates or behind or too far ahead. Um, you know, they just wasn't tape to tape wasn't what you would expect out of NHL players and The general would just keep going on and on. I mean, it was to me that Z concentration. I mean, these guys come past the pock me. Come on. Heard their NHL players to me That's concentration in its day after day after day, and it's just allowed to go on and then You'll see lines go off side You'll see. Two on ones go offside, and it's it's acceptable. And it's It's just like it's sloppy, just sloppy play in practice and You know, I think that kind of practice goes over into a game and then you say to yourself well do other teams do that? Well, sometimes we get to see other teams practice and see their morning skates. And it's like, night and day if you could watch Austin's morning skate today compared to Buffaloes. You You would be shocked at the difference and the workman like precision. You see other teams do the morning skate. And you know, we've been commenting about that. You know, as we watch things for not just this coach, but others to it. It's just the its concentration and the practice habits are horrible. And I think it obviously carries over into games. Um, Whole lines are open. If you have any questions, comments or opinions, 803 Oh, 5 50. I brought this up with Marty. I want to ask you to Paul because you have covered this team. For a long time. I don't mean that as a dig, but you have covered this team at times when they have been in season coaching changes, most notably Lindy and you know things were going in a direction where you could see him in the hot seat was there and we were all speculating. Is that finally the end of his run and all that stuff, but eventually they fired him. What do you think? Or how do the players react to this? What happens with the players? Is there more pressure now that now if there's any blame, it's gonna be only on those guys because the coach was fired. Is there less pressure? Do they play looser, more relaxed because in all of this cloud hanging over their heads, or is there really no difference to them? Oh, I think you'll see a difference in theirs. Not this cloud hanging over their head. I mean, Mont or talk about it after the last game where most of you know how that goes. Most times players will just say, Well, that's not my department. You know, that's that's Kevin Adams deal. That's not our deal to worry about. If their trade we just play. Well, my tour did went quite a bit further than said Yeah, we're I expect something to happen. Whether hey didn't say coaching change, he said, You know he was talking Whether it's a change coaches or whether to trade or anything like that. He was expecting something and almost So you know, seem surprised that something hadn't happened yet. And So, you know, I think that cloud is off their shoulders. You know that. It's just well, you know, sometimes teams are just waiting for for help. You should help yourself. But sometimes they're just waiting for Somebody throw him a lifeline, you know, And maybe this is the lifeline that they needed. The, uh you know, I want to circle back for a second. You were talking about players relaxing and maybe doing their things so to speak, and Darlene would be at the top of the list. I mean, his game is it's the worst it's been since he's gotten here. You okay? How are you has gotten worse this season..

"High on football. He's back. So's rich. Ackermann write eight games. Not many of them are close, but the one that is the closest right now involves the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs. It's a two point game in Kansas City where we go and check in with Christian better. It's really good game. We're going down the stretch 10 minutes left in this game. It's 26 24 chief lead. The Carolina Panthers just pulled within two on a Teddy Bridgewater four yard touchdown run, capping a nine place 70 yard drive big play on that drive with the fourth in 14 at the Kansas City 46 Yard by Bridgewater. With a pocket collapse and all around. It splits defenders up the middle diving, flipping effort to get the first down and keep the chains moving. And, AH, big play. Another big play on that one is two McCaffrey, a diving catch by McCaffrey 24 yards to the Kansas City seven yard line. And that couple plays later. That's set up to Bridgewater four yard touchdown run to make it 26 24 to pull them within two. Teddy Bridgewater's two touchdown passes Now touchdown run on the day 24 of 35 200 yards passing Catchable Holmes, 24 30 30 26 of 39 for 346 yards and three touchdowns. Another big game for Travis Kelsey last week. 109 yards receiving today. Nine catches for 1 46. And 26. 24 Chiefs played 10 22 left in the game. All right. Thank you very much. Christian veteran Kansas City, so lots of time left there at the Paul Hamilton and Buffalo. What a day. This has been for Josh Allen. Yeah, it has an Josh Ellen gets the bills up to 41 points. And right after that, Russell Wilson has a 55 yard touchdown to David Moore. The Bills confused coverage. There wasn't a soul within 10 yards of more in the end zone, and that makes now 41 to 27. What got the bills into the territory. Buffalo came into this game with no interceptions. They have to in this game, the second by Trey White has seen accepted. Wilson brought it all the way back to Seattle three on the next play. Josh Allen runs it in from the three yard line for the touchdown. So he now has three touchdown passes and one touchdown run that made it 41 to 20. But then the David Moore passed from Wilson. And that makes it 41 to 27. Moss had a one yard run to make it 34 to 20. I don't think I have given you that one either were scoring fast and furious here. That was a nine play 82 yard drive for the Bills. That one made 34 20, then the CEO, you got the ball, then Mario Addison sack and then the tray white interception and the bill scored again to make it 41 to 20. But Russell Wilson now over 300 yards 21 32 3071 touchdown in too costly interceptions. You talked about Ellen. He's 30 of 36 for 408 yards, three touchdowns and he has three carries for 12 yards for one TD. Seattle does have seven sex but I told you earlier They are getting to him. But Alan is also making big plays as they come in on the sack, and if he's able to get away has been able to make some good long place down the field. And what's set up the mosque. One was an all out blitz. They picked it up. They got the ball to John Brown. He went 33 yards down to the Seattle too, so they have been able to beat the blitz. They've been tackled sometimes on the blood. They've put 41 points up on the board. 8 50 left to go in the fourth quarter. 41 to 27, buffalo. All right, Thank you very much. Paul Hamilton in Buffalo. Let's have the Andrew Smith and Indianapolis where the first quarter belong to the colts. But nothing since And here is Andrew. With 502 to go in the fourth quarter. The Baltimore Ravens have a 21 to 10 lead over the Indianapolis Colts. Colts let intend to 7.5 time, but it has been all Ravens in the second half. The fumble on the five yard line on their first drive, but their next two possessions ended in touchdowns. Lamar Jackson nine yard run with 11. You go in the fourth quarter, the most recent Gus Edwards, one yard run The 5 43 mark of the third preceded it gave Baltimore the lead. Since the Colts trailing by 11 were able to drive the ball from their own 25 to the Baltimore 16. But they try to go quick to Jonathan Taylor on third in too, and he got stopped short of the marker. And then on fourth and one the Colts go for it. They call a play action pass. But the Ravens were all over it for Philip Rivers to throw off his back foot, and it was an incomplete pass. And so the Ravens took over. They went three and out, but forced the Colts to burn all three of their time out. The Colts now taking over with no timeouts, 502 to go in the game at their own 31 yard line, trailing at 21 to 10 and Baltimore offense, struggled in the first half has been very good in the second half Lamar Jackson of 10 of 10 119 yards. He's also run the ball seven times for 43 yards. As a team. The Ravens after getting just 18 yards rushing in the first half, have gained 68 yards rushing in the second. Really dominated the second half and now have a two score lead. The Colts have the ball, however, with 4 45 to go in the game. It's 21 10, Baltimore. All right. Thank you very much. Andrew Smith in Indianapolis, the Brant Douglas in Tennessee, where the Bears have finally found the endzone Here is Brandt. And they did so on a nine place 75 yard drive that only took up three minutes and four seconds. Nick Foles connecting with Ryan Nol for the six yard touchdown pass and the extra point by Cairo. Santos narrows it down to 24 to 10. In the meantime, ah through the kickoff, the Titans ran the ball the little literary Kendry a couple of times. A little out past that actually went for a two yard loss. And so the Titans are going to be hunting yet again. Here. We're closing in on four minutes. The bear still needing a lot of help. But the bears finally finding their way on offense. Nick Foles has had a pretty game statistically. However, the big play in this game still would be Desmond King 63 Yard punt returns give the fumble return for a touchdown. The reason I said Punt return is the bear's just at a punt return, but they only returned it to at their own 40 yard line. Don't have three minutes 53 seconds..
