"paul goldschmidt" Discussed on KNBR The Sports Leader
"He does stay in the NFL, but it looks like he's leaving the NL West. And that would be Nolan. Ah, Renato is he goes to the Cardinals. It looks like and s. Oh, that's a bit of celebration to get him out of the division. Although the Rockies haven't worked good last year, but to get him out of division always crushes the Giants. That's good news. So they're gonna have in their lineup. Man. I think they're gonna have Goldie bad number two and then Arnada. So if you put together a team of all time giant killers, it would be Paul Goldschmidt. Nolan era. Nada was certainly beyond that team. And that is, you know, that's a great right handed duo back to back. So he's out of the National League West are not. Oh, but he's not out of the National League and the Cardinals. The way this contract is structured. I think we're gonna have a Make it official today at some point the deferred money on his contract and he signed originally a Children. $60 Million.8 year deal back in February of 2019 soared up on two years. He's still owed 199 million for the six remaining seasons. Colorado's gonna eat back 50 million of those dollars this year. And also Ah, Renato is deferring money so ST Louis is ownership. They made a great trade here to get him and we heard His name was in flight last year. I kind of thought something's up, or Colorado's ownership financially is a different position, and every franchise is feeling the impact of the pandemic. But they he wasn't play last year and I just didn't get it done. But there are a lot of rumors about are not are being traded. So now they do get it done, but ST Louis in the way they structured this deal. Deferred money. Iraqis. Owners are taking back a huge chunk, so I don't even know what he's going to make this year from the ST Louis baseball team. And then it kicks in big time. When were You know, Hopefully it's completely through the pandemic in 2022. They go back to Busch Stadium where they're getting 40 k every single night and they're gonna draw three million on the way to four million and they can now they can take on his deal. What does this do? For the ST Louis Cardinals and their offense to have those two hitters and they're a little older now, but they still got good years. They have more gold Schmidt and then gold. He's got a bad too, and are not all three and then what they are defensively are not as a great defense of third basement and Goldschmidt, very underrated. They may want to slip a left handed hitter in between them, John, but isn't it? I mean, now, when you go to ST Louis, it's like they're around the same team. How do you walk in both your back to back intentional walks? You're not gonna want to do that. So It's gonna be interesting to see you know just how well they hit the Giants now is members of the ST Louis Cardinals. No doubt. And here's the thing too. And again. I'm not saying this is pandemic driven, because, like you said, there was there was talk of him being moved. Last year, But you you look at what they like. You said the Rockies paid 50 million bucks. They didn't get a top five prospect from the Cardinals. That doesn't mean that they they didn't get good players. And then as far as the offense, Tommy Edmund all the young Goldschmidt are on auto. Dylan Carlson Young left fielder yacht. He's going toe is going to resign there. Harrison Bater. I mean, they got a good lineup. I don't know that they have the pitching that they've had to meet. Clarity's really good. Wainwright's getting near the end. I think he signed a one year deal with the Cardinals. But If you're a Giants fan, just getting getting him out of the division is good. I mean, I know how good the Dodgers and the Padres are. I don't know if this gets the Cardinals up to that level. But if you can get this guy and they eat $50 million they the Giants never would have done because I never would have done it in in division, but man Sounds like Saint Louis. Got a hell of a deal out of this thing. They did. I are not all fell off a little bit. Last year. I think he was bothered by the trade rumors. He was having a terrible year. And then Lo and behold, you know, Giants go there. He comes here and he went off and when he had three homers and three straight games against the Giants This past year, So he's the real deal. He just had a little bit of an off your last year. The other part of it. Yeah, he's out of the National League West. You're not going to see him as often, but And this is interesting. What's going on with the Players Association and the owners? It sounds like they're reasonably close to a framework. I think they have toe, you know, get their chips on the table to work it out, but whether you move back spring training for one month Start the season late Go from 1 62 to 1 54, which is a good number, pay the players for 1 62. And then they would go to expanded playoffs like they did last year Job so ST Louis would still be a competitors of the Giants to make the playoffs is a wild card team. I mean, we'll see. But the Dodgers and now the Padres look absolutely loaded. They were the Dodgers won the world Syriza and San Diego and what they've added in the off season. They could be. They could win the National League West this year. But you could make the point that the two best teams in baseball certainly in the league both reside in the National League West. So then how do we make the playoffs? We're not gonna be able to beat them out. Maybe you never know they could have injuries Just don't play well. So now you're looking at the change she would compete with for a wild card spot, and it looks like we're gonna have the same set up..

"Balls in play has remained incredibly consistent almost identical each and every year. The base percentage consistent batted ball metrics have been fairly consistent. Homerun rate actually ironically has been fairly consistent. So like they're just they're not as good offensively and it's scary because team that every year has stressed the importance of improving offensively has gotten worse offensively so the cardinals are dealing again with that issue. How do you get better. Better offensively not only have we not been able to do it in the best of times so to speak over the last handful of years making big trades wiring marcella. Zena quiring paul goldschmidt with you know trying to trying to add big time pieces but now you have to do it with financial constraints you have to do it. Amidst you know uncertainty in a market where a lot of baseball probably doesn't even know what their payroll is. So i use all of this as a chance to kind of reset and just give my thoughts of of where the cardinals are right now where the cubs are right now as we turn the calendar thank god to twenty twenty one and we welcome derrick beckon for part two of our conversation and we shift our focus to the gardens. The cardinals.

"It's a friday and we always talk it over with ben frederickson of the saint. Louis post dispatch and stltoday.com ben so much to get into even though the sports world locally is kinda stopped. Cardinal baseball hot stove is here not a lot going on Blues have not picked up. Yet we're still waiting for billick in basketball. We do have mizzou football but let's jump in with major league baseball. The gold gloves were announced this week. Cold and long picks up his second. Tither o.'neil is first and paul goldschmidt decide to win the gold glove now. There was no human vote as a part of this. No human element. It was strictly based on metrics. What are your thoughts on tyler. O.'neil colt and no paul goldschmidt in the gold glove. Get three three thoughts one. Congratulations to colton long. Totally deserved and certainly policies up his resume as he looked for a new team. Now as he's going to be one of the guys that goes down as the microcosm. I think of this new baseball market with this off season There would not in a normal season. Colton long with long option would be picked up by the cardinals. No questions asked this would be a non story and instead he's one of a bunch of guys who are gonna be looking for new teams on lower pay day so but but that confirms what we know. He's the best events of second basement in baseball. Tyler neal a surprising to me. I mean the numbers are there I was a little surprised. Just because he wasn't the every single day starter and lucked field. We talked a lot going into the season about some of the skills he has that are probably under appreciated. His speed is atlanticism. But i certainly never thought he'd win a gold glove. It's ironic somewhat because we're talking about. Maybe needing to replace him in the outfield. And you know the the problem is the one thing that he was supposed to guarantee to be. Had which was power. And that flickered this year but his defense was good. But i i'll be honest. And i have a problem with paul goldschmidt not being a gold. Glove winner and tyler. O.'neil being one for the cardinals. I i don't know how that works. That doesn't compete in my brain. I thought paul goldschmidt got robbed last year when the cardinals went from being the team with the most areas and baseball to the team with the fewest and he was a huge part of that. I don't know how it looked. And and i think he got robbed begin this year. Really cardinals led the league and defensive runs saved. I can argue with voters. Last year can argue with the numbers this year and i got a lot of respect for antony risk. I think he's a great player. he's he's. He's one of my favorite players to watch interview. I think he's a truly great person. But my goodness how can you watch games from both of these teams and not think that paul goldschmidt is the best defensive second baseman in this division let alone at least the maybe can make a case. He's the best depends on first basement in baseball. You make a stronger when he's the best the national league but how is he. Not the best for spaceman defensively in this division. I don't know i would..

"MAC, Dot Com we've been doing this from day one so good to hear your voice how are you? I'm doing great Dan like you said, it would have been greater to see a win last night against rose. But So it's going to be important for them to come back tonight and take this series and get momentum into that double header on Thursday I don't know about you. I. Have Been Impressed I guessed shocked surprised I guess I shouldn't be but just the way the team is played after the the seventeen days from the hitter's perspective to what wainwright his done just in general I i. I, just been very impressed with what I've seen from the cardinals to come out and play the type baseball in general that they have. The true. The true essence of the cardinals coming through I, mean we knew the year. What were the cardinals? GonNa be there are going to be a team that had strong pitching that would play solid defense and they would have enough offense to get by in the offense at times has been even better. We know we. We saw when Paul Goldschmidt hit home runs in like six games in A. Row You know when Goldschmidt gets hockey carry the offense you know the real question lineup has been Paul too young out that guy they get behind Goldschmidt that other teams are scared of which makes them refuse. You know being less likely to walk oostrum. We haven't seen that yet. Now Brad Miller stepped up and and swung the bat. Well, maybe isn't a strong offensively as you'd like, but you know you. GotTa get back or you gotta have somebody hit behind Goldman the milk line up and Did get three hits unfortunately the play that sticks in everybody's mind is the play where he was thrown out at at at home plate but he did get three hits and that's a positive sign for a guy who had colds in still working his way back absolutely I would assume there's indications that the cardinals.

C. P. eight tell us what we'll do the C. C. P. A. S. California's response to GDP are in Europe and what it would allow users in California to do is opt out of data aggregation related to their identity so if your browsing on the internet and like a pair of boots on Amazon put them in your car if they don't buy them and go to another website and add follows you this law would as it currently stands allow you to opt out of the Google or other entities from following you around the internet to advertise that you and that applies to multiple industries so what changes were Google and its allies looking for an exemption to allow for continued targeted advertising and analysis of of the data they collect while following you around the internet fate they generate over eighty percent of their revenue from ad sales and and so if there are no longer allowed to follow you and then also take that information analyze it and sell it to a third party that could potentially impact their bottom line the lawmaker and Sacramento her name is Hannah Beth Jackson who has been the face of the consumer privacy group says that this exemption would drive a truck through the CCPA there be no point to it so well California's new law be seen as an egg. sample for other states absolutely absolutely we know that Washington tried and failed to pass its own this year some of that was related to they don't know what what California's up to just yet Nevada has explicitly stated that they want to know what happens in California before they push forward with their own you know Illinois has been a leader in privacy law and not just states but Congress is is having the same conversation in DC and they're waiting to see what the benchmarks that by California's before they push forward with any sort of legislation so certainly whatever California does will set the baseline for data privacy laws around the country you spoke of California state senator Jackson she said that the C. C. P. A. could shift the balance of power in Sacramento house so she says that over the last decade two decades the tech industry has been able to ensure that this wild west of deregulation remains of the culture in Silicon Valley and she argues that with this stepping stone of data privacy you're creating an environment where we're regulation can't be avoided any longer and Silicon Valley has to come to the table to discuss the rules of the game which she says having existed and so that is the fundamental changes there will actually be conversations about regulation going forward instead of no debate at all on the surface you hear a lot from Google and other internet companies that it's a good idea to respect privacy and to have this kind of legislation but does it play out in reality I mean that that is an observation that we made in the story as well you know the the talking points are are fantastic and GPR is is encouraged and welcomed and and other legislations are are a good idea but you know we see that Google has lobbied against this law in California we see they've lobbied against a similar law in Washington and they've tried to narrow. a biometric law in Illinois not once but twice and so the question remains whether the talking points are going to materialize and something in Congress or at the state's beyond the lip service and I and I think right now what you're seeing is that lobbyists are still being paid to protect the business model instead of data privacy does it seem though is if there is a trend lately against tech especially with data privacy huge and you just had Google paying a hundred and seventy million to settle claims that it violated children's privacy laws so is the tide turning against check well I think you're seeing that in the fact that nobody seems to want to Kerry the industry's water right now in Sacramento and be the face of the amendment that allows big tech to continue to behave like the tech what's happened with the G. D. P. R. that was enacted in the E. you have been a number of fines issued in Europe over lack of compliance it's been a year and a half and and some companies are pointing to that and saying look these are entities that are behaving maliciously it just takes a long time to come to grips with what these laws are doing and how they're changing the game and so that same question exists with the CPA and industry lobbyists and attorneys believe that the language and C. C. P. A. is even more confusing an acre than it is in G. P. R. and so the same issues of compliance are going to be to linger for extended periods of time maybe years until companies can figure out exactly how to fall into place and for the Attorney General in California is going to be the one in charge of enforcement it will undoubtedly be a question of whether or not companies that don't comply or penalized or if they're given some sort of leeway to figure things out for extended period that's quite a came Arocha Bloomberg news cyber security reporter coming up on Bloomberg long Google and Facebook face intensifying scrutiny as the states start their own investigations I'm June Grasso and this is Bloomberg. let's say you just bought a house.

the Pittsburgh Pirates four three with that victory last night at St Louis moved to nine AM to since the all star break closing ground on the cubs in that quickly lightning and I'll central the cardinals and pirates they were separated by a half game at the break the gap is expanded considerably over the last two weeks and we've got the trade deadline around the corner to let's bring a regular guest don and Galen Chriqui during each Monday Wednesday Friday here on a F. and gentleman good morning you mad yes yeah we had a baseball extravaganza in Minneapolis last night also I twenty six run game now buying the fourteen to twelve score Yankees winning over the twins with the leaves changing hands about five times and finally Erin Hicks making a diving catch the path to the year in the gap with the bases loaded twins were won the game had gone through and that save the games as the greatest game I've seen in a long time yeah out well let's speaking of the Yankees and and the trade deadline now that is next week Yankees look good as I mentioned St Louis looks good since the break who needs to make a move here guys in order to put him over the top what day is making a move right now the San Francisco Giants they won again last night next two innings beat the cubs and they have now won seventeen of their last twenty games so from being know whether within two games of the wild card and everybody thought Baumgartner was going to be traded their great left handed pitcher but now there's a very good chance he'll stay because San Francisco may very well be a playoff team in the end is that I'm sorry I. guys I'm in the market there and this team is very confusing to me soon and we're on the great KSFO so we could talk about the giants a little bit here you know I assume that this team was in the rebuilding process and they've gotten white hot recently I mean it it's an amazing thing to watch the first time in eighteen years the giant theme is one seventeen of twenty but they're really good right now in the hands are tremendously in favor of god Bumgarner staying and they love him in San Francisco they get a new guy running the team now is as follows the building for the future but they trade him it's not gonna be popular yeah guys that let's talk some it let's talk some doc Gooden I mean this is his second DWI arrested in two months this is this is tragic at not only when you're talking about good and but that Mets team to what is you know doc Gooden is in a downward spiral aegis studies going away trying to save his life by going to rehab again is that you mentioned arrested for second time in a month alright so it's just it's been a very bad time for doc Gooden meanwhile I was of the yogi Berra came in a few weeks ago and a big baseball terminal the Yankees are there and Darryl strawberry annex yeah yeah that was there Darryl strawberry at age fifty seven looks better he suffered a lot of problems with the substance abuse he was suspended three times for it seventeen years ago he turned his life life around Darryl strawberry is hoping to get the doc Gooden and help him but Strawbridge made the turn for the better he looks great I always like they have great players like strawberry who's the best they saw on the news a vestige ever faced without hesitation Nolan Ryan yeah second he said there's a lot of seconds Nolan Ryan is the best yeah Nolan Ryan during those fast balls and robin Ventura brushing him back and then robin Ventura charging the mound and Nolan Ryan putting him in a headlock and hang up a couple of hammerfists to the top of the head that's one of the greatest things I've ever seen in sports it's speaking of greats Tim Duncan joining this great spurs coaching staff Galen eek I imagine he'll only learn more from pop of it's the spurs look to be in pretty good hands if you know Duncan doesn't decide to jump ship and go caught somewhere else after he learned everything he said yesterday that he was to go to the system for eighteen years the table yeah yeah I mean I mean that he can Abed should help much value to it don't get back to that spurs franchise to be there then a with any of those five titles without tip dog could sell it he'll be welcomed with open arms out there it's a it's already out yeah yeah he definitely will well I mean I mean you know they're going through I don't know if it do you call it a rebuilding process in San Antonio I mean what what even call what they're going through down there yeah I mean I think it was the original intention but you know like a you know guys like to more to rose it it it some of these read research draft picks of god very well for them I don't think it's rebuilding of the I think there are other retooling if you want to put it that way we have a big for the playoffs again this year you know Rudy gay this reside said he's played well for that he's had a recent renaissance later in his career all other this fight it out to be a contender but they're up seven three see the play also the west right now design on sign that sneaker deal with Jordan brand of Nike jump man at ten to fifteen million per year we all I remember that I mean everybody's heart jumped out of their chest with an issue split in that game at Duke but but the debt contract deal it you know what what it what do you make of just the ten to fifteen million here well the world out there how much he's actually going to get but it's rumored that a lot of other competitors were offering ten billion sleazy to Jordan brand offered fifty billion who knows it could be twenty really but it still sells cheaper this guy's gonna sell other readers wherever he goes the funny thing is when he hurt his leg would you blew out is that you can shoot a west bank and back in February it's almost like like he was on the whole case had decided to is that you know I think he was going to have to give me a deal somehow what you know this this whole I I'm a bit of a sneaker head I'm not a big one I'm not crazy about spending a lot of money on shoes but I came up I grew up in the nineties when all these you know when when Nike really created what we have now this this culture of these athletes signing for shoe contracts and then you know kids going out and buying on what what do you make of almost this this kind of partnership or side deal I know converse had it forever with basketball players and everything else but we've really seen a rise of the this huge market I mean from your guises perspective as a player Galen and Donna is somebody who's covered it that you know from the beginning what do you guys think of the rise of sneakers here all of its maker sales but you know the money the players get depends on the sale that's why Jordan became real literally a billion all that came when he became owner the Carolina team in the NBA but if this guy sells a lot of issues on Williams and it'll be a lot more fifteen million a year it could be who knows what a year the big thing will he sell shoes and the betting here innocently at Nike is that yes he will yeah that I tell you as an investor you know a big fan of tangible items things you could put her hands like gold and things like that I tell you sneakers basketball seasons have been a good investment over the years I never got involved in it but if you put a pair of Nikes back in ninety six repair air towards the diabetes kept up with a box of did wearable it was a couple grand right now people would make fun of the they see their closets full of the speakers that's a basic out those flaws yes I will argue though you better wrap those in cellophane because they do break down and they do turn yellow when the foamposite breaks away and and I I saw a guy was collecting I may say I just kept them in storage until I figure that out I want I wanted to check I'm a little bit where your shoes guys wear so so John and we'll talk again on Friday house at that's Donna given creaky "So people check out the newsletter Joshi dot com. Absolutely. Absolutely. I absolutely recommend it. Well, you know, it's. Always great. We had you on the beginning of the season. And I always like to check in with the during the season. And I look at baseball today. And I say where the surprises are things the way they should be here. Because we're this is our sixth weekend of shows and we've got five weekends games pretty well down. And where are we baseball wise as you look at the whole landscape of baseball any major surprises anything real different. But one interesting thing about this year is that there aren't dumbly. We're talking about some team that's way out over it skis yet. Look at the twin say a little surprised that they are twenty and eleven the rage of twenty one and twelve they're a bit of a surprise. But doubt these records were within those teams Rangers at the start of the year. But the biggest surprise is probably the Red Sox were about twenty percent of the way the season is still under five hundred Dave started to get the rotation going up. You look at their last two returns through their attention to start a pitch a lot better. Obviously the offense is going to be there. They all what was it fifteen or the White Sox last night? But then being under five hundred then being six out of first place. The biggest surprise in the early going. Looking at the National League West dodgers starting to assert themselves. What about the Padres Diamondbacks, especially very good ball others to they got a chance to speak today in Colorado. The pitching has been really good spot Noga their offense identify like you tell more who had stopped take developing a couple of years really stepped up this year. He's off to a great start. But even without Paul Goldschmidt. Who of course, they traded to the the cardinals over the winter the second moldy scored you just some of that for ballpark, and it's still been a very good offense Christian Walker that'd be the front runner for a rookie year right now to cast off by the Orioles. He's at seven home runs for them. So really surprised as to how did the offense is bad. I think the pitching was going to be there. We know the struggle tation. But be Secondly scored is what's driving that twenty thirteen records. Well, they get an extra base hit every game, which is an incredible in this Carson Kelly that they got in the cardinal trait. And Luke Weaver pitch great last night. The Goldschmidt trade is act-. Well, who knows it says only thirty five games into the season. But and Goldschmidt of digress for a second. I think he can be the MVP of the week of the cardinals win. Now the cubs. Have some say about that? But the trade Goldschmidt, Luke Weaver Carson, Kelly and Shane does. That's not a bad deal for Zona. To look at it too. It's you know, we think about the names involved, right L, Paul Goldschmidt, cutting the guys are, but it's going pogo. Schmidt strike Carter's career. It's one year, Paul Goldschmidt. That's all they had control of through was going to be free at the end of the season. So when you're treating one season even a superstar, and you can get the ten eleven twelve years of Weaver in Kelly of being average to good players. Nothing's a reasonable expectation both. Plus, you mentioned the prospect the infield. Kind of trade that that's a good rebuilding trade it in the moment. You think all the training where they're big star? But you know, Luke Weaver could be worth more over five year period than goals that will for the cardinals in one ear Lewis. I agree. I Joshi and with us, and that's sort of the the content of the newsletter genita- discussions like this. But I agree completely. I thought this trade is going to work even when I heard it. I thought Luke weavers legitimate pitcher. I mean, I thought they got a legitimate major league pitcher for Goldschmidt. And then I didn't know much about Carson Kelly. But he was Jesus jammed up behind yada, your Malina. So he wasn't going anywhere in the cardinal organization. Interesting to see.

"Sharp line drive to right fielder. Yasuo poague, Paul Goldschmidt scored and Paul diong scored giving the Saint Louis cardinals a five two lead at that time in that is tonight's safe at home segment, both Goldschmidt and two young safe at home. And that is your safe at home segment is the cardinals go onto beat the reds six to three. Now. In case your head has been buried in the sand. It is the weekend starting on Thursday night. Thursday, Friday and Saturday the NFL two thousand nineteen NFL draft. And I want to give you a rundown quickly who the Bengals picked in this year's draft at all wound up today. And I think I'm up to speed they had one pick in the seventh round. They did a lot of trading. But I think they are finished and let lemme see three six nine picking ten players. Okay. Joan Williams the offensive tackle from Alabama went number eleven overall in the first round. And then last night drew sample the tight end from the university of Washington went number fifty two overall to the Bengals drew sample. He was only rated the one hundred ninety second player in this year's draft. Bengals picking number fifty two overall, dude better be good. He's supposed to be a very town at blocking tight end. Okay. And then in the third round finally a linebacker out of NC state, Germain Pratt. You went number seventy two overall. So. That brings us to today in the reds pull a trigger on a quarterback for St. the Bengals pull the trigger on a quarterback. Gosh, what did I say the reds? Oh, sorry. Maybe maybe can play some baseball too. But anyway, Ryan Finley the quarterback of the the wolf pack of NC state. The Bengals select him in the fourth round number one. Oh, four overall Ryan Finley. Remember that name? He will learn under the red rifle. Andy Dalton for your Cincinnati Bengals three picks in the fourth round. The second pick Rennell ran. That's ari. N e l l Wren W R E N defensive tackle, the Amazon estate, son doubles. He was selected number one twenty five overall. And then a Buckeye the third pick in the fourth round for the Cincinnati Bengals, Michael Jordan. And I believe he played center this past year for the for the Ohio State buckeyes, he's really listed as a guard because Billy price as that job. Locked up pretty much. Okay. So Michael, Jordan. He went number one thirty six overall to the Cincinnati Bengals in the six round three more picks, Trayvon Williams. Running back from Texas AM number one eighty two then to Sean Davis linebacker from Auburn. He went number two ten. And the third player that the Bengals selected in the six round, Rodney Anderson or running back from Oklahoma. He went number to eleven overall and a couple of running backs here to try to make up for the mistake. That was Mark Walton out of the university of Miami last year already been cut with all kinds of off the field problems. And then to one pick in the seventh round. He went number two twenty three overall a cornerback from South Dakota state by the name of Jordan Brown the Bengals loan pick in the seventh round. So you wanna talk a little NFL draft. We can do that with the Bengals here. And it's pretty evident to me that the Bengals want to run the football by drafting Jona Williams. With their first round pick in number eleven overall, a tight end who's known as a blocker drew sample out of the university of Washington and Bengals want to run the football. How do you protect your quarterback? Andy Dalton with a very very strong running game. And yes. They did at a couple of linebackers today or this weekend in Germain Pratt out of NC state and to Sean Davis out of Auburn. So try to beef up that defense and. Hi to get back in the mix here. And I think the Bengals can contend for an AFC north title. I really do. I don't buy the fact that, you know, even though they went six and ten they're going to get a lot of injured players back this this summer and fall, and I think they can contend the Cleveland Browns. They're on the upswing. No doubt. Pittsburgh. There's. They're trying to get back to where they once were bought of off the field issues there and Antonio Brown exiting, Pittsburgh for Oakland. And the Baltimore Ravens revamp offense with Lamar Jackson is your your quarterback in Baltimore. So we'll see how all that shakes down and the Cincinnati Reds today. Lose to the Saint Louis cardinals six to three three runs seven hits one air for your Cincinnati Reds six runs nine hits one air for the Saint Louis cardinals. And I mentioned it in the previous hour Saint Louis. You can just imagine how the cardinals felt last night getting hammered by the reds twelve to one. I had a feeling that the Saint Louis cardinals what bounce back that is one franchise with a tremendous amount of pride. And can you just imagine? What yada? Your Molina was thinking the cardinals catcher who's almost like a manager out there player-manager. And I figured they would come back, and then the reds certainly could've used save. Some of those runs from last night for Tyler Molly wasn't meant to be today. Reds fall six to three in. You are listening to the Kelsey Chevrolet extra inning show. And just a reminder that extra innings is brought to you in part by western and southern financial group helping to make Cincinnati the best place the very best place to live work in enjoy life. While the broadcast sheriff big Dave Keaton his passed the baton on to Mario Jeronimus. Michigan a Michigan man, he loves his Michigan wolverines, which is fine. And I'll root for the Michigan. Wolverines is long as they're not playing my Ohio State buckeyes as always go box. Go Bearcats, go musketeers go reds. And yes, I'm catching a lot of flack on my Facebook page chick. How about a little pas? Tippety on the Cincinnati Bengals. Okay. I'll try I will really really try. I like to say nobody out-pizzas the hut. Nobody out boggles the Bengals. But this year hopefully will be different under the tutelage of new head coach Zac Taylor. I've got my coffee..

"The big story of the day. We'll circle back around to it. But Mike trout signs aid gigantic contracts with the angels. I think amazingly. Thirteen years thirteen years twelve years four thirty twelve years four thirty with the angels of Jag Antic extension. And I think the angels. Absolutely. Did this thing? Right. Exactly. When they needed to get it. Right. I think they had to. You let Mike trout go. How you ever going to convince your fan base that you're serious about winning? An Ireland has always been the they need to trade. Mike trout. No. Is you don't trade the greatest player of his generation you lose? Would you have traded Mickey Mantle? No. I mean, there's there are franchises in baseball that get a really good player. And then when he gets to the stage where he's gonna get paid. They trade him the dime. Just did that with Paul Goldschmidt as always used to do that. So you're either one of those Frances that keeps your Lear players your homegrown players or you're one of the franchises that trade them. Yup. In the angels. And by the way, the angels are not terrible. The angels aren't terrible. I meant to mention this earlier. But if you go look at their team, they've got lucrative catcher now pool halls tearing it up in the spring. They got zachos art at third base the outfield. Cocoa Hoon, I think is coming into his own great name trout, right? Upton is out there and the rotation is is terrible. That's their their issue. But I think they will hit their hit hit their way to some wins. Only problem is there in the division with the Astros now with the Astros. It's an eighty one win baseball team right now. But their farm system, we talked to Mike Giovanni earlier. He got all that. Yeah. You got in their farm system is definitely improving. It was terrible and Billy came in rebuilt. It. I think there's a chance for that team to be really good not this year, but next year and the year following they gotta figure out the rotation. So Pete Vesey reports. That there is he saying there is mutual interest between the Lakers and Doc Rivers Momo. What do you think we've talked about this a little bit? What do you think about the stuff? You read me about doc always having an interest in coaching those legacy franchises like the Knicks. Lakers rolled interesting. I hadn't heard that before. You know, that's been it. I just think things have been going around for a couple months now about that. But I'm always suspicious of rumors that float around like that. When I know that a coach has a an option on his contract that needs to be picked up. Right. And there is no way the clippers would release him from his contract or not pick up the team option to allow him to coach the Lakers. He has it's the teams option teams option. And I'm saying the team would not release him to come to the Lakers. So the dis the clippers are really smart there. They got Lee Jenkins and Michael winger who came over from Oklahoma City and Trent read it, and they got a lotta Lawrence Frank is general manager they got there. They they have their ears out. Right. I I'm sure they've heard the same thing blowing in the wind for a while. Now, I'm sure they've heard that. So the fact that it's a little more public now than when Stephen Smith said it like it's kind of popped up and bubbled up..

"Sports teams sports leagues Bleacher tweets key Jones up first at t n j six twenty nine wants to know are the Marlins the only team in the National League with no chance at a playoff appearance this season. I guess no chance zero chance I kinda would put areas zone net category. They're rebuilding. They traded Paul Goldschmidt. If during the year, they have an opportunity to dump at least some of the money in the contract that cranky. I think they would do that. I I don't think they're really working to to make the postseason this year. Like the Padres. I don't think they're gonna come close to making the playoffs. But it's possible. I think the same thing is true with the Cincinnati Reds. But I'd say those teams, what do you think? Josh. Yeah. I mean, I I don't think those two teams really have a chance. I think the reds probably have a better chance than the pirates though. No, no, you're wrong. Okay. Let's let's let's ask the question. I can't remember if you're in the pod for this. How many games did the pirates win last year? I don't know. What do you asked me to do research BUSTER? Eighty to tell me, you're not surprised. I am surprised. I am surprised. Okay. Are they better than they were last season? They have a their rotation. All these young players are you're older. Yeah. They could conceivably have one of the best rotations baseball. Again. I I don't think the pirates are gonna make the playoffs and we'll go through our picks next week. But I do think that that's a team that could make the playoffs fair enough. Sterling at stir ride Seventy-three. Hey BUSTER despite the expected three team race in the AL. Don't you think the Yankees are going to burst out of the gate and easily take the division easily? What do you think? Josh. I don't know. I don't do as cynical Red Sox fan. I don't think it's a I don't think it's a crazy question because that's what the Red Sox. Did they had they had an easy schedule at the beginning of the year last year. They want to say they started like nineteen and two or something crazy like that. And then just essentially road that out for the rest of the rest of the season. You know, you always say divisions aren't one in April. But when you get out to a hot start, and if the schedule sets up in a way. That allows you to really build a cushion. You can very easily absolutely win the division in April at Serlin. We talked about that schedule which bolsters what you you're referring to hear the Yankees first nine games three against the Orioles three against the Tigers. Three against the Orioles thirteen their first fifty games or against the Orioles. That's a pretty nice schedule. Yeah. No. So as as wild as it sounds, it's certainly not out of the question Rena is next cheese at Rena banana says even though spring training doesn't matter. Everybody knows that Corey kluber has struggled thus far and hasn't locked in his usual opening day. Start for Cleveland should the Indians acquire another starter to bolster their rotation. Or is this just overreaction to a small sample size? And I love a lot of Rina's questions are about the American League central. We really cool. Look, I I don't think that they'll acquire starting pitcher..

"And then if you don't wanna do it fine. You think that could ever happen? No. I don't think you can tell players to do something. They don't wanna do for example, you, and I know that Paul Goldschmidt has been someone because he hits a lot of home runs. It's been talked about in this event. I don't think there's any way he would do it because that's just not his thing. Right. I've heard that said about other players as well that they don't necessarily like the idea of trying to to pull the ball. It's not really something that they would necessarily get excited about. So I think you have to have the players go by and I would say this like I love the million dollar prize for the winner. I think that they're actually wouldn't be it wouldn't be a bad situation. If that could be negotiable, and like trying to get a boxer for a big event, you know, what million dollars is enough. But I tell you what if you increase half, then I'm in. And maybe that's how might try doesn't. Maybe tach it to charity. How cool would that be? If you convince the, you know, Mike, trout a Bryce Harper. Aaron judge John Carlos Stanton, you could have an amazing event and make it worth their while. You know, that's a great point. Yeah. We we'll give you a million. Or a million point five and match that number to the charity of your choice that hey, I mean talk about a great PR stunt for the player. Okay. I'll only because this money's going to charity. That's a great idea. Jeff also reported that as part of this agreement the union has agreed to not challenge. Baseball's right to put in a rule requiring relievers to face at least three batters. Now, this is not to say this rules in place for two thousand twenty but the union is agreed not to challenge that we know. It's something that's been talked about by major league baseball. It's been brought to the table. I gotta tell you. This is one where I wonder as they talk this out if there'll be a whole lot more pushback now that the seems to be moving closer from players and even from folks on the team side because people who wear uniforms on the baseball side, they hate this. And I've heard from players they can't stand the idea of you know, guys like, and he's retired now, but a guy like Peter Moylan, you know, that one battery reliever that guy essentially will become obsolete the left handed relievers those guys have become obsolete. It's going to affect a lot of members of the union. And I wonder as this gets closer reality. If that conversation will turn around, and maybe there'll be some more pushback. What do you think? Yeah. It'll be interesting. I personally I liked to rule. I hate all these mid inning pitching. Although those they are starting to trend a little downward the last couple of years. So we're starting to get a little bit away from the luby's of the world anyways. Yeah. Look, I get it. The unique you gotta fight for all your members, including the Peter Moylan of the world. You know, the Mark zipped chins keys. You know, the so those those guys have a right to be defended by their union lawyers as well. But I like the rule it'll speed up obviously the pace and the time of the game a little bit. I get it at it affects strategy in anything that affects strategy the people in uniform or automatically going to initially revolt against it. But it will make the game better. And that's the goal here. As we mentioned there will be conversations moving forward. And I think the absolute focus has to be on the non-competitive behaviour things the tanking. We've seen from some of the teams in recent years the Phillies for period of four years. The Astros back in the early part of this decade the cubs back in the early part of this decade. And then the service time manipulation which again is moving to the front burner. The White Sox announce on Wednesday. They're sending Illo Jimenez, the great prospect. They got from the cubs in the Jose Tana deal. He's going back to minor leagues. When it appears that he's absolutely ready. We've talked about Vladimir Guerrero junior situation. And this was an interesting one j p Crawford sent by the Mariners back to the minors..

Why is that because as JJ, and I discussed the other day baseball reference has everything. And somehow I got stuck on the controversial nineteen twenty five American League MVP vote. This is what you do in your spare. This is what can you believe this? How does Peckinpah win the MVP overall Simmons pecking ball hits to ninety great? He has an old PS of seven forty six sevens. Is that a thousand eighteen guy in St. eighty seven Alan how is he not winning the MVP? History with trout winning MVP over a t you don't wanna play along with me. Goodbye, right. You don't want to start screaming at the nineteen twenty five AL MVP who needs to hear from him, by the way on Allen's point going back to two thousand fifteen Harper was by far and away the best player in the National League that year he mentioned Grandy, and he mentioned Ariana two and three that year. Evan Paul Goldschmidt, Joey Votto. I honestly I'm more upset about Peckinpah. I mean, can we get back to that police may Roger Peckham? Queens a good point. I find entertaining. I know you guys do as well. I do I love I just I really early tell you last night like eight o'clock at night. I send them this image of the twenty AL vote. I said, can you imagine if Allen knew about this he'd freak out? Did you look at the numbers only when I said, the did you at least breakdown you'd even look at it. Now hit two hundred fifty three hits a year. So this is shout Simmons taking care of. And you check in baseball reference on one thousand nine hundred thousand five here's what happened and his geeky fine. But even even that's a little Molineaux. No, this is this. You know baseball reference you get a web. So I got stock looking at something I think it was Tycom related, and I got to the Philadelphia as I got and it just sort of Morphing into something else. Eventually just randomly got to the AL MVP whenever I see a bad MVP award. Who do I think of Allen and Queen and Evan? I got some breaking baseball news. Yes. Give me something from Rosenthal. Free agent. Infielder. Josh Harrison is in agreement with the Detroit Tigers on a one year contract. So he can be traded on July twenty fifth. That's what that's about. I mean the Tigers are going nowhere. So the Tigers kind of like with the Marlins Sergio Romo and you'll and your Walker. They sign solid veteran guys. Hope they have a good first half. And then trade them maybe to the Yankees if their injuries or the Mets if their injuries July twenty fifth always a fan of Harris, there's actually an all-star couple of years ago. And I wanted the kids to be in on Josh Harrison as of like two years ago, one note on the sport programs. It's I'll state John's into tournament. Okay. See no, matter matters, and the other is planning on the first place team matter, but I mean, certainly combat events stall on the. No, matter, Duke and Carolina. Evan is one of those games? I circle every year. And then you have the additional carrot of. Nick fan. That's gotta be good into period. I read the other day President Obama's going to the game. So and the secondary market is through the roof. So from a national standpoint, not wrong. It's obviously the event personally. I'm just saying for me when I get all the TV set up tonight. My priority would be islanders Seton Hall Saint John's, but because I like you and I'm working with you. I will flip a little to Syracuse. And maybe a guest to is that he doesn't appear in a metropolitan uniform on the city field until twenty twenty is walk ear. I hope I'm wrong. Because they need a bats. And of course, Bryce Harper. And I don't think he's going to sign anywhere wherever he does sign and sometime before the end of February he and Machado are going to assign. You would like to thank sprint pitchers and catchers are reporting into and within two weeks. The one or two three year contract for huge money. The both of them are not gonna get ten years and three hundred million when I like the Metropolitans assigned Bryce Harper. I mean is that a is that not a rhetorical question? Zack is calling from Brooklyn New York Zack. Hi, that's me. It is indeed. And we're glad of what's happening. Oh, not much. I just want to again. Thank you for always making me laugh anytime, I put you on your real talent for comedy. Maybe even more than your knowledge of sports is what makes you so great. Well, first of all my it's not comedy. It's I'd like to think it's having a sense of humor, which is okay. Yeah. Well that lasted about recent caller, the Michigan. Very. Although you do have to admit when you look closely at his stats. He does seem to be a little bit overrated. But certainly, he's a great slugger. I'd love to have him on the map. Yeah. Sure. Oh, no. No, no. He's not perfect. That's as no Ted Williams. Put it that way. No. And you're right. I my whole thing is I think there's a lot more. I don't know than do. So I mean, that's we're both on the same page with band. Can I make a quick point as well? Of course, I just you know, I don't know what to think about the poor thing gets move. I'm still not sure. But I feel like everybody's talking about is dying. I love to have Zion. But are people aware what the actual percentage of getting the number one pick? Even if the next step the worst. It's fourteen percent working. That means it's not gonna happen. I mean, forty nine one hundred is basically it's not going to happen. For the worst good. Well for the worst five teams, see the necks don't have to have the worst record. They can be the fifth worst record team and still have fourteen percent. Each of the five worst teams. For the bottom five pm. They're each could have about fourteen percent. I say that doesn't give you too much optimism though. Mean with what their luck they'll probably be picking v? They they have the worst record and be picking fifth in the lottery. I see that happening. But sure, of course, you're neck fan. How else where do you think? Thanks for keeping us laughing Stevie gotta keep on going. You've been on since I was a little kid. I'm forty two now. So I hope you can keep us laughing means means a decades to come means a lot to me that you said that and and you're not they're not here, and I've been lucky enough to say that for ever. Strew? That's the way this business works. You're not there. I'm not here. John is calling from New Haven, and John you're on the fan was happening. Steve comment, then a question. Yes. Flora's? Look what he did the Rams offense say again who you're talking Flores. Oh, yeah. Right. But Aram off. And now you're Miami coach why couldn't they just get him. No because they had to get Adam gays. Oh. Let's why didn't the jets get him. I I don't know. And and that doesn't necessarily well first of all ballot. Check the defensive genius of that team. Not Brian Florida's. Okay now. I mean, I mean, what do you think Brian Flores is working independently of a ballot check? Okay, fine. Well, say second question, I'm not saying that he may not contribute and employed. But as as a defensive coordinator of a New England, please it's Bella checks defense number one. And first of all we'll see what kind of head coach Flora's is going to be. Believe me he's not going to be winning with Miami. They stink. It last question. Kyrie Irving is he gonna stay with the Celtics any chances he fly. And so good question. Who knows I don't know if he knows. And I'm hoping for a first of all at one point he said he would love to play for the next. I wanna see that tested. And and the first of all the Boston cannot trade him for Anthony Davis. There is something called the designated rookie maximum extension clause in the CBA that prevents the Celtics from trading for Davis right now. So first of all somebody has to explain to me because of it's called the Derrick rose role. Have you ever heard of it? No. I I that's one reason I called you. 'cause you explain it in simple language with a little comedy too. So that's why I love the show while you're very kind. I'm not sure. So sure I understand what is known as the Derrick rose roll. It means basically if you're a rookie, and your MVP has rose was or you're all NBA that ear or you win some kind of. League of major award in your rookie season. You can't be traded for each other. And and this was the case with Derrick rose. This was the case with Irving. This was the case with Anthony Davis. They got major awards as rookies and believe me, it's called the Derrick rose rule. And this is it officially it is the where where you have signed a designated rookie maximum extension. And was confusing to me and makes no sense to me. I don't know what the point of it is. And you're saying that I can explain in common layman language. I'm not so sure I understand why this cannot happen where you cannot trade kyri Irving right now for Anthony Davis. It makes no sense. It's as confusing as hell that's what I would do as always. I thank you for your time. Have the greatest state. Oh you too when thanks for being a part of the program. I wish I under. It just means the way it was with the collective bargaining agreement and the collective bargaining agreement basically is full of complicated roadblocks for players seeking a fresh Kleinmond. And this is how it is in the NBA, including the designated rookie maximum extension clause that prevents here's exhibit the Celtics from trading for Anthony Davis right now because of having Kyrie Irving on their team. One eight seven seven three three seven six six six six as if you didn't know number to call. Fantasy. There were smoking.

"And he does. They'll breed the volatility that that can be worrisome for somebody like bias. Okay. So I agree to and we talk about how the early round picks the difference in like eight picks is so substantial even though it feels like it's not that different. You're like, oh, it's just a big no going from late. I two that mid second is a major difference. It's not the same as eight picks from the fifth to the sixth round. So I agree with you there. And you know, we talked about at shortstop with Trevor story is similar kind of deal there in Vyas really because he qualifies about now he doesn't have triple eligibility, which is how if at all does that does that change things for you? Do you think that that adds a few pigs could you then say you you mentioned mid second. Let's say two three picks into the second round. Does do those extra couple positions because he has second and short off the bat. Does that? He's he's he's at third because we're talking about then he's triple eligible does that push you up maybe to where if he's pick eighteen nineteen when did you become trouble there or does it have to be kind of that that twenty two to twenty four range for bias? Yeah. I think maybe it leaves them like eighteen nineteen it's hard to see the names behind him. And I go men how can I pass on Bryce Harper for heavy bias like I just can't do that. I can I can understand. Taking him over Paul Goldschmidt. I can understand taking over Trevor story. I think Aaron judge is going to late. But story I think that they're similar do you want Coors field or the position eligibilty? I think that that's kind of the design. Right. I mean, I I I've been taking story about him. I think I took story on the turn in the road wire magma. Okay. So I I don't I don't have a problem taken story there. Either over by has. I just yeah. I don't know. Maybe maybe maybe I'm hating too much on buyers, and they should be more in just like I said, I I look at those underlying numbers in the just the plate discipline numbers. I mean, he's got you know, just an enormous owes wing. He doesn't have great contact numbers. It's not like he's I mean outside it was Okon ttacked. It's you know, he's he's got a sixty eight point five contact percentage. When seventy seven percent is the league norm. We know you won't go broke running away from last year's breakouts and paying that premium. So sure, you know, you're, and that's what I think we're doing here is is. That's why I think some people are doing here is the are they're paying for what he did last year. And I wanna pay for what I think someone's going to do this year. Exactly, exactly. So let's talk about a little bit more about Bryant. Like, I said going twenty picks later. Man that was such a tough eighteen to kind of watch them go through and you kept thinking it would get better. And you know, he was as good as his MVP season in seventeen from sixteen seventeen. He cut ten homers. But the slug really didn't go down that much. It was down like seventeen points. The average was still there. The obe- P was even better. So he had to basically MVP caliber seasons in a row and the the great rookie of the year before this a three elite seasons, and then even last year you look at it's a one twenty-five WRC pause. It was thirteen homers in his four hundred fifty seven plate appearances fifty nine runs. Fifty two rivers just a couple of years, not really a huge steals guy. Anyway, kind of gets you that contribution eight and seven in the two big seasons in sixteen and seventeen. So you're looking for a little handful there, nothing crazy..

"And WFAN FM New York. Yes. WFAN newsroom and really on the internet. David Robertson signs with the filling two years two years. Three million guaranteed. Think he's going to do anything. I'm actually really surprised that he didn't come back. But you saw the Yankees I entered into this off season. They took care of their own right away. CC Brett Gardner. First orders of business was to get them back, then they waited on Robertson. And I would have thought he would have been somebody. They wanna wanna moving forward. It seems like nobody and I'm not talking about relief pitchers. I'm talking about any position if you are free agent, you are not signing a contract that is more than two years and. The market talked about it a little bit too. But it seemed like after they gave familiar that money. They weren't going to go give anybody else any kind of decent money. How much money did Robertson? Get do. We know that yet. Twenty three million three million dollars for two years for twenty three. Oh, I'm sorry. I. Wow. That's I mean he did. Well, so eleven and a half. So this is Mark fine. Sand hill earn ten million and twenty nine thousand nine hundred eleven million in twenty twenty with a twelve million dollars club option for twenty twenty one. He's gonna close for them. I'm asking. He wanted to go somewhere to close potentially. So who's electable money, but whose whose unlocking the market because Zach Britton still out there by I mean, the a lot of these relievers though, I mean, some of them have already signed obviously you had. Andrew Miller sign familiar, obviously signed. But I think in Soria walking story already side. But you have a lot of guys who are not that north of thirty but north of thirty. I mean Robinson was thirty four. It's not like you have a lot of young guys even Craig kimbrel who's looking for a crazy contract. I mean, he's thirty one. I don't know. I think that that's sort of stagnated the market a little bit is trying to go Mets again waiting for somebody to come back is is going to be somebody interested in Adam Warren. Marash the morass pardon me, the Yankee fan here along with McMonagle said that the Yankee Volkmann was so good last year. He forgot Adam warm wasn't it. Can I get into and terrible. What the hell is that? Why is it that? What are we together? Now for five months. Six months yesterday was our one year anniversary of the show. Right. But with him end of April, right? Yeah. I mean, I would oversee correctness were saying wrong. Teachers have said my neighbor on the whole time. It's Emma war. It's morrish. It shouldn't be that hard to say. If I got to tell you how to say it, you know. We're just putting the FOSS on the wrong syllable. But you could have told us wanna kill what does that mean? You know, what's crazy? I had a best friend. Tell me you're joking. Not I didn't get what she was making a rather putting the wrong emphasis all. Mike Myers joke on the wrong. Salau? I got it. Yeah. Now, we know. Thanks, monica. Good job today. Thanks to more Ashish. She at a best friend, right? I had a best friend and. We went to high school together, we have the same birthday. So we met in high school that's four years. He came down here. Maybe in two thousand ten when I start my second year with the jet, and he's talking to my wife. It seems like what did you say? Your name was BRAC avid. Call him brat for twenty years. He never corrected me. Yeah. You know what? Now, knowing you. You call peoples. You take it loose interpretations of people saying, sometimes Robertson. It's pretty clear because the only other guy they have is, sir. Anthony Dominguez who throws the hell out of the ball. But he can't find the strike zone. And lead them with sixteen saves last year. Do you think Zach Britton goes back to the Yankees? I think there's added urgency for that to happen now. And I think he wants to be a Yankee but slow play in that one. Can Goldsmith be the this year's debut for the Mets who Paul Goldschmidt. He's already. He's gone. The cardinals cardinals. Yeah. The guy the Mets need to be the next. Jay, Bruce is well, nobody because Jay. Jason in Brooklyn. Jason what's up? I've got a question about coaching. I don't wanna put you all you guys. Call. Call. I gotta say I. Would need to have a beard patch scar and a hook hand for me to forget that he gets more excited about Gladys Knight fired up about losing. So I need a coach who. Nails and throwing chairs when you lose need him to be a pirate. So captain hawk. I need to know Jack Speer. Wanna I don't wanna see him coming down the eye coming down the hallway? Here's the thing. Okay. I know you guys get caught up in this and people love the emotional fiery guy, the head coach that's all that a lot of times. I'll how long for so many years cowboy fans want Joe Avezzano to be there and coach 'cause they always see a marching up and down the sideline like nut bar. Well, the motion is is is about a quarter of a percent of the job of being a head coach in the NFL. I hear you. But I want I want to see the passion to a lot. And I think that quite honestly when we're talking about intelligence and running an organization the jets a magic eight ball could have won one Super Bowl in fifty years. Then those guys to do in the can't pick up dinner who hire consult with outside agencies, and it was on the team for twenty years. What's what they have no football accurate? Hiring the outside agency, though that happens. But Jason I think you hit on something, which is bad teams and bad organizations tend to stay bed, and listen, I know that's hard to hear. But I think it's any jets fan it would be nodding along because you're just talking about what the lions I've seen it, obviously with the bills. How long did it take to turn the Browns around? I mean, and it's taken regime afterwards and quarterback after quarterback. And it doesn't mean it can't happen. But you do get the sense that they don't have a great. They just don't make decisions. And that's why this head coaching, and that's not just the head coaching. That's the one hundred million the hundred million and how you spend it or don't spend it because you also want to be dumb about it that to me is going to define what the next five to ten years for the jets for me. It's something totally different. Even outside of the head. Coach is organizationally. Go. I go I work with the jazz not shoot a show with the jets every week. I go in there. This always new people solo going by it's the continuity. I go I go I go back to Baltimore the same, dude. That was making my eggs is still making aches. Is he still there the equipment managers still there cast is still there air DeCosta still there every? Smitty still there. Everybody still there. Everybody understands the mission. Everybody's all brought in is always turnover at the turnover at the turnover who cares about the head coach. This damn scouting department has been horrible foot for decades, they need to get it together a there, and maybe it needs to be where Christopher Johnson Steph back in five somebody, and it can't be the general manager. He needs a team president organized this organization in a structure, which this is how we do business. This is how we report because otherwise when you've got people you're gonna have people dry snitching on each other is going to come a point where you go get into a tough situation. I don't need my head coach going dry snitching red light Greenwich to your parents are trying to go run till you go go tell dad that you did this then I don't need to general manager intern. Gordon, go run today is that he did this. Say y'all work it out. This is how we're gonna do it this house to be together or be here. Coexist, working out they need to find their Bill Polian that kinda guy John Dorsey. They're they're Ozzie Newsome. Yes, they're they're guy who understands what that winning organization looks like and just one last thing, and I get it. Okay. But the jets are not alone in this. There are twelve team sets never won the Super Bowl. So let's forget about that. And I'm not saying that fifty years, you know? Yeah. But let's not start metals. No, absolutely not. Point is a lot of teams haven't been able to figure this out. Not yet. Richard Saddlebrook, Richard. What's up guys, thanks for taking the call for so two things. Well, I guess the first thing bark agreeing with you in terms of getting a president of football operations someone like that in there. I've been advocating for a long time to data jet fans at Chad Pennington be a great set at that super smart guy, understand the market, and you're gonna Dacian. But the reason why I really called you guys. I want to ask you, I've got mixed reviews about it. But I really like the idea of hiring Kingsbury and then bring in a defensive coordinator, we coach experience a guy like Chuck the Donohoe was coached by someone of that ilk that can help you know, getting into the NFL game picking the forty six nine roster game days, it's cetera. I think we need a young offensive mind experience coaching at the NFL levels a little bit overrated. Only from standpoint of the Andy Reid of the world record turned head coaches McVeigh guys that have had a lot of success with coordinators at one time one time before they were coaches. I love McCarthy. I'd be open to that. I just wanted to pick your brain. She thought about a lot. Yeah. Listen, nurtured as what I was saying earlier in the show. I think that that's not a bad outside the box thought if you wanna bring in Kingsbury, and then you bring in a defensive guy who can take that completely off of his plate. Now, the thing about Chuck Pagano. Obviously better than I do. But I think he still wants to be a head coach see you need to have somebody who's not going to undermine a young coach because you're going to be so much more savvy about how the NFL works. If you're defensive coordinator is actually angling for your job. That's not going to end. It was crazy about. College coaches make more than professional coaches now, and they have way more control, right and way, more control. So I go back to that on the whole ship, right? And I go back to where tiles making four million dollars. I mean, Nick Sabin will laugh at that pocket change. I mean hell every assistant for Michigan makes a million dollars but tug McDonald's started with the Miami hurricanes. So let's the big push to bring him back to be back with the hurricane. So I can see Chuck Pagano potentially going back with the hurricanes and being their head coach. While they just hired by ideas from temple. Oh, he left and then came back. Yeah. I don't know. Seven they need defensive coordinator. Nobody I get that. It was his dream job. But that's a complete joke. But all this coaching stuff is such a joke. What you can't believe anybody. I know Lincoln Riley just signed an extension, but do you honestly, would you be totally shocked if he ended up somewhere, but that's what I'm saying. So they fired Jason Garrett. So I don't wanna hear I don't wanna hear car. I don't want to hear callers come up here and say, hey, we'll these guys are playing in a bowl game or these guys are taking money because everybody's in it for themselves. So don't come to me and sell me this concept on by. And accountability. Because the head coaches that's coming into your liberal talking about it. None of them have it. None of them zero right now if somebody offered offered Nick Sabin fifteen million dollars year, he will vote one fifty six eight seven seven three three seven sixty six.
Bryce Harper sweepstakes could heat up at winter meetings
"Remember the days, right? It's out of Thursday morning. Friday morning is the rule five draft and that ends the proceedings there at the winter meetings. But when you get it. The winter as he got everybody in one place Arab Vegas, and they're going to be all packed into one hotel. And you know, every you have front offices up in a sweet, and they meet every day, basically live up there. You got the reporters walking the hallways. Really unique kind of set up something like MLB network will have their whole studio set up in the middle. Guess wouldn't be in the middle of the game floor there. But in one of the wings of the casinos. So it'll be. Rumer central and that job is everybody talks every little thing becomes a big rumor in typically, we talked about Jayson stark a little bit earlier tonight. You don't always have a whole lot of action at the winter meetings, especially early on and sometimes it will build up. But a lot of big moves already here as Paul Goldschmidt is traded for by the cardinals the Mets with their big move. In fact, they every single one of the teams in the NFL as except the Marlins is already had a big strike so far this off season. But where I am curious now is what happens with Manny Machado and Bryce Harper. The Yankees did not get Patrick Corbin. We have all this money to spend. I gotta take the Yankees are going to end up with one of those two and the Phillies you'd figure it'd be the landing spot for the other the national spend a lot of money on Corbin out. They get puts them out on Bryce Harper. But we just haven't seen them tied to. That many teams every fan base. I guess want Machado one Harper, but the actual teams and the rumor mill really has it started on them yet. And it's been the rest of the free agent market. It's been you know, kinda pick that to to this point Soviets Tennessee starting up on Sunday as to what the Mets still need to accomplish. Even after the deal this week had a chance to catch up.
