"This challenge that shall have going on the call bracket. You don't have a lot of knowledge about that. I know you all did it last year. Can you explain a little bit what that call challenge of yes, sure, Chris, thank you. It's all fun. Everybody's got a bracket. And we decided, I think we identified 32 or 33 callers. We probably could have done more. Could have done less. And we just, we put them in a bracket. We have it showing on the screen for those of you watching right now, realize some of you may be driving. And people vote and we advance various people. And there's nothing really to it other than that. It's all fun. Some people take it a little too seriously. Hey, thank you for the call. And back to what you said a minute ago about the national media. I agree with a lot of what you said at some point. Without any news, you have to turn the page. And I found what CBS did today to be deplorable. I mean, I realize this is your first bite of the apple for Alabama and Alabama game. But there was no there was no relevant relevance to it. No relevance whatsoever. The case happened on January 15th. It's already been hashed out. I understand you talking about it on Sunday of the selection Sunday, but to spend that much time and then to akaike your 60 minutes. I mean, come on. I mean, you're supposedly a reputable network. Act like it. We'll take a short break. More to come right after this. You are listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. The secret to crushing your ESPN tournament challenge bracket is in

"Called a few times about big fan of yours. Thanks for taking my call. Thank you. I basically just wanted to ask like kind of back in O 7 whenever Alabama hired Nick said he was obviously at a time of success at Alabama, but if let's just say NATO is able to win a national championship this year, how would you kind of like compare the two? Like I know that has a lot of work to go, but taking Alabama to a national championship of basketball. That's like unprecedented. I just wanted to hear what you saw by comparing the two and the higher that Greg Bern had a few years ago made us well, thank you, Charles. I think it's just obviously a spectacular higher. And yeah, somebody who has watched this for a while, Alabama in contention for a national championship is breathtaking. They've always had good programs, but they just never could quite get there. One time in the school's history, they've been to the elite 8. That says a great deal. So yeah, this would be, again, comparing NATO to Nick Saban. I'm not ready to do that. Nate NATO says is trying to get to his first final four and win his first national championship. Nick Saban has 7 and has been there. Ten times in the national championship game. Think about that. And 11 times overall in the playoff. We continue with more of your phone calls and Willie is up next in Alabama. Hello, Willie. Warren eagle, Paul, how's it going? Very well. Thank you. So Chris men Todd, DB freshman arrested. Tony Tony Mitchell faces better on a possession charges after being stopped by police in Florida on Wednesday. I'm interested. What do you think the university of Alabama and Nick Saban responds will be while the university is already under scrutiny from the military situation? Well, first of all, Willie, war eagle back. I can tell the objectivity of your question. The two have nothing to do with each other. Nothing. And first of all. It's not to charge. It's what happens next in the case. What are the facts? And I'm sure Nick Saban will deal with that. He's got a protocol that he and every other school faces and deals with and I'm sure whatever discipline action is necessary will be taken. Depending on the adjudication of the case. Thank you for the call. Appreciate it. Chris is up next. A hello, Chris. Hey, mister fine bomb.

"Our show. It's great to have all of you with us which continue a Kathy is up next in Georgia, hello Kathy. Hi, Paul. I just wanna speak to Jim. Jam. And instead of lawyers, there's several mental institutions. Outpatient inpatients in hospitals. I think you need one. Well, your actions, even before yesterday, you've always appeared and saying to believe that he needed, we're worried about you. You're losing it and power will win if you go to court because there's enough of us that would testify that you are the anger management and something's wrong with you. You don't need to get on the pile like that because there's enough of us and Tammy wouldn't like it either and she was here. She'd be on your butt too. So damn, you need to stop it and we all need to stop it with them and quick mention him. He's going to be a pants on fire again and another problem. So did you know he can't live if he don't call? The power you have a great day. Thank you, Kathy. I appreciate your call very much. I'm Ann is up next. Well, good afternoon, there, Paul. You know, I'm always available. I am a number one seat character witness guy. But I take issue with officer named Cathy, just happened. Right. Jim's not crazy. I'm not going to say Jim's crazy. He may be different than Kathy. He may be different than you, he may be different than me, but Jim's not crazy. Jim is jammed. I mean, this is the gym we've come to know and love all these years, right? Sometimes we fist fighting bloody each other's noses. But he is 6 foot three. It's hard to bloody at 6 foot three man's nose. Unless of course you're playing basketball, then you can slam dunk on him. But no, Jim's not crazy. And okay, so let's just play this up. I would go to court. And you got the number one C character witnesses and I believe that they would testify for you and for Jim. Now, if we don't know who Jim is, and we don't know what his real name, what quarter we going to. Yeah, I mean, you raise a fair question and I don't need to give a defamation manifesto here on the program, but first thing you have to do normally you asked for a retraction, then you file suit. Then a judge has to determine whether there are facts that support the evidence. And then when you get into court, when you file a defamation suit, first of all, you have to establish is Jim a public figure because if he is a public figure, then there's a much different standard. It's a much lighter standard for an entity like ours. I would argue I'm in Jim is a public figure. He's well known to many, many people. Don't forget. Page 54. Age 54. I mean, you know, that may be the downfall of the song. But just so you know, I can be bought. And by the way, I mean, on top of all that, once you get into court, you have to prove the damages, and by the way, Jim, I hate to break this to you. We need your real name if you and your age, if you file suit. Well, I'm scared. That lady also brought up Tammy. She didn't know Tammy, I knew Tammy and Tammy and Jim were like everybody. Sure. I mean, she knocked you out with a fist, but she liked everybody. She would do that to her. Own husband. Yeah, I mean, she may not come down and pick you up, knock you down again. Yeah. Because she likes you. But you know, Paul, if we all go to court, I'm gonna be like cousin idi and the Murdoch trial. He just don't get called for whatever reason. If we do go to court, I hope it's televised. I mean, we have time to feel here every day. Would it be too much to ask the judge? Your honor, may I have a word? Is there any chance that you could rearrange the court hearings every day between three and 7 p.m.? Anyway, let's get back to the calls. Well as in North Carolina, hello, will. Hey will. Always hate that. Jesse is in Pensacola. Hello, Jesse. Hey, Paul. I just wanted to tell you that if you are a moral as Jim stated on the record there, then I'm in the right place and where kinder spirits are. You know, I think I probably the one thing I would never deny is somebody else's accusation about my immorality. So I feel good. And go Gators is a tough times down in the swamp. We suffered another indignity yesterday and Frank, we're headed toward mediocrity with our basketball program as well. It looks that way. By the way, we are what? Four hours into the NCAA basketball tournament? We've had a handful of games and I mean, there's still the afternoon games and then there's the night games tonight and there's only 6 only 6% of the brackets are still perfect in the entire country. It didn't take long, did it? Let's check in with Bowen and oppa leica, Alabama. Hello, Bowen. Yes, Paul. That woman in Texas is right. We need to focus on SEC. You know, I think gia's bar pole or not like Logan says to get the printing, but there's a slight difference. The last August is the Napier with the right guy for the job at ten months. It's been hard. But I think I was the right guy off the

You are listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. 50 minutes will preview the games a little bit later on. And your phone calls at 855-242-7285. A myth is up next in Kentucky. Hey miss good afternoon. Hey, man. How you can hear me, Paul? Yes, I can. Thank you. Yeah, I have a question. Obviously, I'm a big UK fan. I've always been a big UK fan growing up. How do you think they're going to fare in the tournament SEC tournament and through this? NCAA tournament. I'm pretty upbeat. In fact, it was funny during the break. I had a chance to run into Matt Matt Jones from up there who hosts a show statewide and he felt pretty good as well. I think Kentucky's just playing at a high rhythm right now that you always have to be a little nervous and a tournament because one thing Kentucky has not been is consistent. They have played consistently better than they were in January, but I think it was Damian fishback who said earlier or somebody, the injury situation, the health of the team is not great. Yeah, I think that's one thing that worries me as well. I'm not sure about the case

"The Paul finebaum show podcast. Well, we've got an update. This is not official yet. The bracket doesn't come out till later, but right now on the one line legend Jim Larry Iman, I'm in is a very shaky one seed. We might add, this is late last four in Dustin, Elliott, Chad, and then Chris after his takedown yesterday of Iman, bubble watch, Dan, Jerome, we haven't heard from him in two years. AJ, Jeff, in the first person that has been completely eliminated. It doesn't matter what happens now. He's out. That's AC from Canada. A lot of issues there, mainly mainly we've heard from the State Department and they're not letting them across the border. So he's out. Sorry about that. Ralph is in Louisiana. Hello, Ralph. Hey, Paul, how's it going? We're doing great. I had read or heard something somewhere, and I haven't done my research to be true. But talking about these teams in the ACC, I have heard that 18s from the ACC could get together and vote to dissolve the conference. Would that be some sort of a way that all of that could work out? Well, that would probably be the only way. And I don't know exactly. I think here's what they could do. I think they could dissolve that. I don't know if they can get around what's called the granite rights, which means that they are on the hoof to ESPN for another 1112 years. I'm not sure I understand, but it has been explained to me the only way that you could even see some movement is to literally blow the whole conference up. So I think you're on the right track there. Okay, well, I was just and those 8 better be sure they've got another conference to go to where they vote. I know that. Well, let me assure you, I don't think there's 8 in the ACC that would find good homes. No, I can think of four that would have really good that would be in great shape. I can think of another three or four that would be okay, but I mean, let's just do the math out out loud. I mean, after Miami, Florida state, North Carolina and Clemson, what do you have? I mean, you have Louisville, which you could find a home probably in the big 12, you have try and think of the NC state could cobble something together who would want Georgia Tech. That's true. I mean, who would want to, I mean, duke sounds great, but your basically getting a basketball team, and that has been shown time and time again will not get you into a conference by itself, and then wake forest. Does anyone really want wake forest Boston college? Syracuse? Yeah, seriously. Yeah, they've got some, they've got some problems or maybe some of them they have to want to go down to the mid majors. I would be modeling thought on that. Oh, they could all find a home, but it might be. It wouldn't be in a gated community. I can tell you, hey, thanks for the call. Let's Tom is up next. Hey Tom, go right ahead. Hey, Paul, how you doing? We're doing great. Thank you. Great. I concern is, or

"A Monday afternoon. What's up, Joe? You know what, hey, I wanted to call in so bad Friday just because I know you went on TV money, but just because you say alcohol and even when you ain't on TV. But I had to go to Hamilton. I went by the bank and I said it Walmart for three years. Why don't you get my old chain? And I was a mad time I left there. I didn't need to call anybody unless it might be my preacher. Thanks for forgiveness for the thoughts going on in my mind. But I just wanted to call and say this, I'm getting kind of worried about Alabama's men basketball program. I'm not surprised how Carolina what they've done this weekend. But Alabama, even though we lost Saturday. And our last couple of wins would barely. I mean, they would barely win. Bam is not playing their best basketball game right now. I mean, we're not looking, we've dropped in the boat, which I can say why. You lose that. Man, I'm kind of worried about because they just don't seem like they're playing together in a moment. And without Brandon Miller, I'm not sure we didn't be ranked. I mean, I'm just being honest without him. I don't know if we didn't be right. So, and I just want more time, Paul. About this, your color bracket. I'm just like, you're just one that you're kind of snubbing right there. Well, I'll just end it like that. By the way, by the way, we have not even announced it yet. This is just a projection. Isn't it? Okay. Well, I just don't know the handsome one because, hey, I am in there. And you will be in there. I think it's to be determined on what you see will be. Do you think you deserve a number one seed? Because we were thinking about dropping on Anne. I don't think I let the people decide that. I'm not going to. Our guys are going to decide who the seeds are, the people will decide the winners. Well, I think you've got to say drive. I think you got them all right. I think it's Jim squirrels. I mean, info right there, Paul. I mean, they all the best one two three four wasn't in there. Larry from Shelby was in there. Well, I would put squirrel in above Larry, because Larry, he just shows a lot of hate towards people when he calls him. I mean, even Alabama fans. I don't know if it just how people get grumpy. The older they get. Then he just now, more angry. It does seem to get to you as you walk your way through the 70s. It seems to come undone. Hey, thanks for the call. Chris is up next. Hey, Chris. Hi, mister mom. How are you doing, sir? We're doing great. Thank you. I want to thank you for the privilege of living me calling and speaking, sir. Thank you. Thank you, sir. About two months ago, I was driving home listening to your show like a normal day. And there was a caller. Just one of your everyday callers that's going to remain anonymous at this at this at this moment of my phone call. And he would not let you finish your conversation. He constantly was interrupting you and I hope he's listening right now. He constantly was cutting you off. Just in he seems to forget that this is your on the issue network. This is to Paul finebaum show. And a privilege that the callers have to talk on your show. It's not the callers show per se that they get to call in and just, well, this is my time to call in and I can just say what I want to say and just remember. It is a privilege for you and your screeners to allow people to call in. And talk on your show that you've been going on now for a very long time. And to have this one particular color. Help me before I give an opinion on, can you remind me who that was? Is mister Amiens? Is it about four weeks ago? And every time you would try to say something, he would just constantly cut you off. And you were getting so aggravated. It was making me very aggravated. And I'm sure a lot of your callers that are listening to right now can remember back on that. It was about his normal time that he called me. Alabama time. Mister Amiens, it stands for a very irritating, very irritable, that he makes people, this is not your show. Okay? This is the Paul fon bump on the ACC network that we all get the privilege of listening to every single day and if we choose to call in and talk to, we can, but you won't to call in every single day and the only thing that you do when you call in is safe stuff that's very irrelevant. It makes no sense whatsoever because all you want to do is hear yourself talk about something other callers do. Just to go back and hear it, this thing, 20 minutes later on the show. And it's just gotten to the point to where it's just not worth listening to anymore. And to claim to be an auburn fan, please. I've never heard him say one thing about the album tigers. And to you auburn fans out there, you should, I don't know. Y'all should jump this man or something and just jump on him whenever he calls in because I would be ashamed if he was representing my fan base. Because he spends more time talking about Nick Saban, the university of Alabama, our football team and our coaches staff and our fan base want to hear his own team. I've never heard him talk about hue freeze. I've never heard him talk about his football team. I've never heard him talk about anybody on the football team. I call that being a barner, somebody that straddles the scene us. So I mean, I would love for you to call in right now. I would just, Chris, Chris, in fact, he did call in. Would you like to speak to him? Chris, go ahead, man. He wants to. This is the make a wish. This is the make a wish foundation. Chris, and I appreciate the honor and the privilege to talk to you more damn eagle. And I heard you use the term hour. So I'm assuming your pure damn banner. And I feel so bad for you. I know you hanging your head. You shame, you shamed around the world. You can't go to the grocery store and buy damn bananas 'cause you so shame. But I appreciate the privilege of having the pile right now. What? That's the title of the banana society during high right now. I can't afford to buy a monkey anymore, which is which is what you're referring to. Chris, you can buy bananas and groups of 6 or three. You can get them as one at the damn convenience store. Chris, you can afford a banana. You've got 35 damn baby t-shirts in your closet. Trail one of them. Get you a hope to do it. I mean, you deserve a little banana tree.

"Are doing well. Thank you very much. Didn't hear anything from Melissa. So let me check out Jeff, who is up next. A hello, Jeff. Good afternoon. What's up, big daddy, fine bomb. How are you doing this evening? We are doing great. Thank you. Listen, I want you to dig back. When did Jeremy actually get let go at Tennessee? I believe it was January of 21, okay? Just think back for a second. What if? And I got some pretty good information on this. What if Jeremy was called into the Chancellor's office? All in on the carpet. And says, hey, fulmer's got to go. We got to get rid of him. He's calling our problem. And Jeremy, because he felt obligated to former because he was the one that hired him. And out of respect, because most of those Alabama guys give respect. And he calls fulmer and says, hey, they're coming after you. They're trying to get rid of. And then fulmer does a complete about face and throws Jeremy completely another bus. Turns everything around on him, and they're Jeremy is holding the bag. That came from a really, really close source. What truly happened? What's your thoughts on that? Jeff, I have never heard that before. And I really don't know what to make out of it. I mean, there were some rumors going around for a couple of weeks that Jeremy Pruitt was in trouble, but remember, you've got four or 5 other coaches involved here. "And of course the player here? I mean, look, right or wrong fair or not, if Alabama is in a final four, it is the story. I mean, just is. Unless there is more explanation that we don't have. It is the story. You have basically a guy who could easily be named national player of the year. For a team that easily could win the national not easily, but would not be a shock to win a national title. The best player in the country on the best team in the country and a team that doesn't always never won it. It's a great story. There's no hiding there. So the longer you go, it becomes, it becomes the deal. And just one more point, like with all those gunshots fired out in a crowded bar area of a school, we had an emotional situation last night at Michigan state one week after innocent kids were shot there and it's a different type of school shooting, but as terrible as this tragedy was, it could have been more widespread. And you just have somebody who was admitted to the police, he was drunk and doesn't remember everything, just firing bullets around the strip. Everybody involved here is very lucky that the tragedy was limited to what it was. And I'm not trying to take anything from that, but it could have been more widespread. And so this is just a very, very serious situation. And I hope that it's viewed that way, I hope it's viewed that way. And I just I'm really looking for more answers in the next few hours. Dan, thank you, as always, a very thoughtful sobering comment, not reactionary, not, hey, look at me, put the camera on me. Thank you, Dan. Wetzel, one of the best in the country. And he's right. When you think about how bad this was and listen, nobody needs to explain. We all know what we're talking about here. If these shots had started going sideways and it escalated, it could have been a mass event. It's already pretty terrible to say the least. Let's take a break, more to come. Your reaction to this, plenty of guests, as I mentioned, we will head to Columbia, South Carolina, or Alabama, is right now, taking on South Carolina and 9 o'clock tonight. We'll be right back. "You are listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. Carol Robinson will join us shortly and talk more about more information on the NATO Brandon Miller situation in Tuscaloosa. Stan is up next to hello Stan. Hey, Paul. Thanks for taking my call. Thank you. You doing well today? We are doing great. Thank you. Hey, I wanted to talk to you about a comment you made earlier just a little bit. Third situation, and when someone's lost their life, you were talking with the correct results or your. Yeah. This guy is 20 years old. And he's had big college. He had a mama. And it's one more time. I would say he said, yes, you've made a lot of mistakes. If you know, and stand out, let me jump in because we're having a difficult time hearing it. I understand it does there is a lot of you do. And again, I think you have to factor in every under the law. It doesn't matter whether you came from a great background or a terrible background. It's the law remains. Now, there are some judgment issues. So let me go to some more phone calls here. JK is up next. Good afternoon, JK. It was going on, Paul. Let me chime in on this subject. Paul, let me explain to the listeners. My perspective. There's a phrase that's called ignorance of the loss. It's no excuse. That applies to me as a caller that applies to you as a host that applies to a star basketball player. That applies to it. It can't. That means if you have no idea of it, just because it doesn't happen. It's not going to get you off the hook just because you don't know. But the bottom line and the key to this whole thing is, gee, you and S guns, politicians, I blame them because they're paid by the gun people to keep these certain laws out, I don't give them a pass. Just like we got this dumb governor of Alabama that passed a law where you can carry a gun in public without a license. What exactly does she think is going to happen when people just out in the public care and guns? This is going to be the wild wild west of America. It's just dumb. The whole issue is guns. I think they need to take the model from the UK. You can only have a gun in your home. You can't carry one in public. They do not have the crime rate. They don't have a mass murders like we have. They don't have the every other day murders like we have in here in America. It's just absolutely ridiculous. You can only have a gun in your home. You still had a right to bear arms. Why do you need them out in public? Why are they in the public? For what reason? Other than taking a gun to go hunting into the shooting range, why else do you need a gun in public? And I'm going to let you ponder on that part, but you know what else I'm really sick and tired of hearing, especially from politicians when mass murders and murders happen our thoughts and prayers go out. 95% of them aren't trained and 95% of them don't even think about it after it happens two weeks later. So they can keep all those thoughts and press, but they just lying and saying something nice to hear at the moment. But Paul, you have a good day if you can on this stuff, your man, and I call back when I have a brighter conversation to talk about. Thank you, JK. You'd be well. Bubba is up next. Hey Barbara, good afternoon. Hey, Paul. Liz, I'm a big album fan, but I'm gonna say something. This woman didn't do anything wrong. She simply wouldn't give out or telephone number. Somebody who wanted better. Now, I'm upset because I think these guys are all the big suspended. You don't bring a gun at 2 o'clock in the morning. And you shouldn't have a gun anyway if you're a basketball player. Also, if I understand what you said earlier, one of our freshmen harassed the girl during this. I think he'll spend kicked off team. And that's all I have to say. Yeah, and there's some, I don't know, and maybe our next guest does the technical ownership of the gun. It probably doesn't matter. Maybe we'll try to clear that up. But there's certainly a lot of confusing thoughts. And we'll try to dig in a little bit deeper. Maybe stick to the facts of what we know and we will do that in a few minutes with Carol Robinson from AL dot com. Right now, we're back after this. We don't want anything to happen to him because I don't want you to have to retire. Because he's the one that makes the show. And if he's not well, I don't know if we can go on. I feel very confident that he is going to have a full recovery. And again, he was, I think Jim deserves all the credit for being honest with us about what he's going through, but I thought that was a really important moment for Jim. I did too. And I am, and I was originally like last Friday. I had some news that on your radio show someone posted that cat daddy had passed away and I was branding. So I called and your staff was so great in kind and out and I did too. It was a cat daddy, but it wasn't our cat daddy. No, it's funny. It's not funny. But yeah, we had we had seen that and we were talking off the air and we'd even change the death announcement and we all collectively decided let's find out. First of all, you don't know, let's let this settle. And as soon as I finished speaking to the guys in the other room, cat Danny was calling in, he had no idea that he had died. Trey is up next. Have you ever been to Monte grand mobile, Paul? Never. Well, you know, a lot of people don't know this, but moniker all started in mobile. A lot of people think it was a New Orleans and I didn't know if you knew that or not. Yeah. I've spent a lot of time in mobile. And look, he talks about how powerful our minds are and how powerful the mind is. And I just kind of, it really resonated with me. So I really just started to speak things into existence. And it really, I don't know, man, it was just something that it was just something that stuck with me. And since I got into league, I started to, I started things quotes and yeah, man, it's a bunch. I really do. I do a bunch of them, man. Here, let me rattle off one out. Limitations are self imposed. If you want to control your life, you have to control your mind. I think you should all everyone should have a quote that they live by and kind of what they're about. Yeah, I mean, quotes are amazing. All right, peanut. This is my last one and I'm gonna let you get up out of here. So tell me this, we were just at radio row, my first time being on radio row for the Super Bowl. What was the most interesting thing that you saw and you could take away from this experience? Let's share with the family. Entourages. That was like the thing you and I talked about the most. Everyone had entourage. You know, Roman and I, we show up maybe because we're older, but we just kind of, I don't know, it was just roaming I it was just him and I but everybody has this huge entourage and they're walking and they're getting filmed and it just seemed kind of I don't know, it seemed kind of fake. And some people were out of touch with reality and they're just trying to do so much for social media. That was probably my biggest takeaway. It was like I didn't know people roll with social media crews that to capture them walking and stuff like that. I just thought that was kind of weird. And if I do something on social media, I'm just kind of doing it myself. The biggest crowd. Steven a, Joe Montana, Shannon shark, just a field had a nice little entourage. Everybody had entourage. We actually started grading them. We started great. We did. Because entourage came up. Halloween. You need to get way more people. Finally, don't worry, when we go back next year, when I come to SEC network, I'm gonna have an entourage. Y'all gonna be like, dang. Look at this kid. Absolutely. Tell us about the podcast quickly before we let you run. I think when people think players second act, there are a few things that would automatically come to mind, but you guys have found some really creative jobs that a couple of individuals have found after being able to play in the National Football League. Yeah, I mean, typically when guys retire, you know, it's not on their own terms. So you have to figure out what you're going to do in life. We retire at like 32, 30, 25, 35, Rome was how old are you? Rome's like 47, so Roman retire when he was like, in his 40s, but really we just talked to other players and just trying to figure out what they're doing post post football and their second act, their second job. I've done some excuse me. I've done some media work, roams in the media sales, some players get in the coaching, one guy he has a hygiene product. Some people have acted. Some people get into the financial world, some people make cupcakes. Some people bake, they get in the restaurants. I mean, there's a multitude of things that some of these players do. And it's awesome and we're really just trying to just give them a voice and just, you know, like we're more than athletes. We don't just have to play football or coastal ball. We can do numerous things out there. We're not just athletes. We're pretty damn smart. Well, Charles, thanks for the time. We appreciate it. Cool stuff, interesting stuff. A lot of fun and I just ask for an invitation to be a part of your entourage when it is assembled. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Most definitely. Rome, I love you. I appreciate you. All those listening. Y'all should like Google my face and then look at Roman face and y'all should take a vote about who looks older. He or I, just phone it out there. Just FYI. Roman is my uncle. I'm the nephew. We got it. Cole, I got so many stories. We'd be traveling on the road and because we were the two elder statesmen in the room and Carolina, he used the corner. I was the elder safety. And we'd be going walking around the mall or anywhere, and he would just stop random people all the time. He was like, hey, who looks older than me and him? And he never won. I always got voted as look younger than peanut. Yes, it's funny. All the time. This is what he does. All right, when we come back, let's take a couple of your calls and we mentioned who's next in a couple other positions. We have another position we want to talk about of who may be next to the SEC. We'll do that right after this on the Paul finebaum show.

Chris Rodriguez Jr. Named SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week
"If you saw the game on saturday night between missouri and kentucky. You saw a lot of chris broderick against junior monster game. The co offensive player of the week in the sec and he joins us now from lexington. First of all chris congratulations. I know you're team. You wanna move ahead but man what a what a performance it was fun it a good one. Let's let's go back in and that was a huge game. Everyone knew how important it was for the cats to beat missouri Take us through the week of preparation. We head coach on thursday night. And it i'd say you guys were ready to play that that would be the understatement of the year sir so throughout the we just knew that we had abba chip on our shoulders because last year you know we felt we were prepared but our energy just wasn't there so we felt like we all wanna coaches told us like. Are you going to let them out play you. Are you going to let them out. Execute you and we knew we couldn't let that happen again so we went in with the mindset that we had to go in this game of wanna ask you about that because fans like like the folks that i talked to her every day we get. We get hung up on what happened last year and and and wonder often whether it carries over but coach stage said the exact same thing i mean. How do you eighty psychological here transfer. How do you transfer that bad feeling into you does it. Does it affect the way you practice. Prepare because you're you're supposed to be dealing with the techniques of it. I mean motion is part of football. But i'm really curious how that affects you as a player so one We had a video from last year where they showed beauvoir sidelines. I think kelvin. Joseph have made a good tap on the sideline and then they were getting Hype and they showed are sidelined. Dolphins was obvious on the bench or whatever and we were just sitting. There are cheering or nothing. You know he showed us that video in it. Obviously practice a lot harder throughout the week.

"On that i would say. Sevice is probably the second best quarterback that i've oh well maybe phone eggs up there but Brandon let me say this. I don't get hung up on rankings. After the first week everyone played a different types of opposition. And i i think goes out tomorrow night and it has a big time game that will change. I mean that that is a huge game and I know we. We haven't talked about yet but we will. Hey thank you so much for the call. Kevin is up next in north carolina. Hello kevin well. Hey paul thanks. You let me visit again Quick quick housekeeping. Check the underside of you're right forearm. You got dirt there. Bruce or something or my hallucinating. You're talking about my right arm. Your right arm yeah. It's just hair That that's all going in fifty different directions okay. My bad was my tv. I thought you had a bruiser picked up dirt somewhere. Anyway i will. I will try to take a bath tomorrow night if i can get it off. Okay brother Do a waxing single. Yeah there you go there. It is do. A waxing thing gets gets a pain you know. Yeah you know. I i've I'm lucky that that's all that's all you're saying about me. I'm hey what what's on your mind. You have another other than me bruising. Easily i just wanted to make you make sure you look well okay So the trickle down effect you know. I'm just blown away Obviously that they. Ac's gotta backfill three now. Maybe two more later. But i'm just blown away I think they took the right four schools But it just doesn't make any sense to me boise state you know. They're a great underdog story. But when you compare them to usf obviously you may have looked at that stadium. Usf plays in the super bowl stadium etcetera and and They're they're they're you know they're travel partners would be. Ucf and academically. They're better and they're all sports. My biggest problem with this league Frankly not memphis another pretty good a possibility but they disagree. They just went out like remember when you were a kid. Your your your your folks who drag you to the cafeteria and the dessert would be first and you'd put apple pie on there and you start piling. They just went out and grab whatever. Look good and there's no continuity to this league. yeah. I know the records are good. These these football programs but you just there has to be something to a league in. The big ten is just a hodgepodge. You got west. Virginia over here you got. Byu eight time zones. Away over here in boise up there and i i trying to say you know. They're trying to put off the inevitable and that's going under and I'll give bob bos be credit for that but as far as the league with any commonality which however. i think. It's a disaster. Hey thanks thanks to call. We must go to a break. We will start bouncing around some of the sites of the big games tomorrow including a stop in knoxville. we'll head to starkville. We have a lot of big games that we have a chance to talk about. We are live in fayetteville. Arkansas listening to paul finebaum show podcast. So first time. Ever on the paul finebaum show and we have an issue with paul. So it's dave pasch here in knoxville tennessee. Just going to tell you about what we learned. Today we spoke with josh hypol- the new head coach here at tennessee. He feels pretty good about his offense. Joe milton michigan. Transfer will start again tomorrow against pitt. Didn't have a great game week one but coach hypol- told us that team believes in joe. Milton and milton also told us that he played all of last year with a torn ligament in his thumb. He had surgery on that thumb after last season and he felt a connection with hypo going back to win. He was being recruited by hypo when he was growing up in. Orlando hypo coach. Ucf but at that point he was at missouri as the offense coordinator and he was trying to get milton to go play for the tigers. Milton chose harbaugh in michigan. But he feels like he's had that connection with hypo all along as for pit. The panthers won the coastal in two thousand eighteen. But it feels like the door is open. Not only for them to get back there but may be win the acc. They have one of the most experienced quarterbacks in college football. Maybe the most one of the most underrated anyway in kenny. Pickett and paul. You're back now. So go ahead next rap me on dave. I look forward to this day for so long. I i have to say. I mean everyone knows. You're a consummate professional but to be able to just pick up. And i mean you could have gone on for four more hours.

We didn't play very good and three turnovers during that time period. But the guys five back in you guessed opponent like oklahoma your high quality talented coaching. You gotta be point the whole ballgame and we work for time there in the second quarter. But i'm sure we'll contend for a national championship this year. Well coach. thanks for making time. This weekend we'll take a break more to right after this listening the paul finebaum show podcast. Goodyear believes in the power of moving forward. No matter if it's on the track the court or the field movement makes us want to be more. It pushes us to go further to show the world what we can do movement as the unique ability to change our perspective to challenge us to work for a better tomorrow movement can even bring together when we're still because if we're focused on the next move we don't have to worry about what's behind us goodyear more driven and we welcome you back in some really sad news to pass along one of the legendary figures in college football history. Sam the bam cunningham has passed away according to the university of southern california. You know for all that he did. He is best known for going crazy on the alabama crimson tide in a game in one thousand nine hundred seventy at legion field which which many historians have said Helped open the door to integration of the alabama football team. Now others will dispute that you can't. You can't rewrite history though and that is the way history is written. It is a fact that alabama had Two african american players Already signed up Wilbur jackson and john mitchell one of them may have even been the stands that night but two stories about that game are legendary books. Many books have been written. And we'll talk a little bit more about that But that news just coming out a southern california. Let's continue with more phone calls at eight. Five five two four two seven two eight five and jay is in mobile. Hello jay what's going on tomorrow. We're doing great thank you. I love your show. I watch it all the time every day. Thanks so much Anyway all domino die hard fan A lot of people don't realize like oh. I mean in the south. Hello yeah we're here we. We are not leaving at least until seven blah blah. We'll go right ahead anyway. All on god. Oh two questions for you. Oh all these on georgia fans. I mean they're also quick to like. Oh they got the biggest team. They're ready for everything. I mean Jay and maybe going on is jay. Be trying to to watch the television as he talks. And this is not a secret. We talk about this occasionally. There is a delay between what i'm saying at this moment. Let me start. Sort of if i say something now and you're talking to me and you're watching television. You won't hear what i said on the television for about seven seconds. I know that sounds confusing. But you remember these signals bounce pretty high up in the in in outer space so let's I realize you're sitting there. You're on hold and all of a sudden you get to call. You're not thinking okay. I need to do this or that. But that's why we often get. These delays kudzu is up next in atlanta. Hello koji hey paul how are you we are. Well thank you. Thank you for taking my call It was great to hear from willie. Fritz dow was one. The georgia southern. Let him get away. I know that 'til ain't has a higher A booster situation where they can afford to pay him but the reality was. I always liked him as a coach and he did a fantastic job when he was their their first year in the sun belt The real racism calling. Paul is i. You know all these games this weekend. It was very interesting. Wash the one thing that was very abundantly clear it. I don't know if you cover this or not. I'm sure you made mention of it is. How pathetic is the acc and football I mean i think that the sec to play them opening weekend for the next two or three years and we can go to eliminate them from the college football playoff altogether because the the acc has pretty much been clemson and the rest For many many years and it got exposed badly this weekend. And i can't remember and i know people are saying well the The pac twelve had a bad weekend to it. Did but the pac twelve already punching bag so let's not beat concerned about that But the acc likes the prop itself up as as a something on the on a similar level to the sec. And it's just not true. Mack brown fan never. I didn't. I don't really care for much attention. But the reality is at least he was honest about the situation would says hey only lester where all we were completely overrated and they were. I mean Great atmosphere and blacksburg. But come on man you gotta take care of business if you're to number ten team in the nation. That's always been north carolina's undoing. Even when mac was there the first time he he's he's a really good coach and a lot of nine three zero records but they always they always blow a game and by the way. I'm not saying it's easy to win. And blacksburg that was that was a frenzied crowd but If you look over the last six or seven years even going back to To beamer's last couple of years area winning in blacksburg has gotten a lot easier than it used to be. No question about it and last last but this I would say. Greg sankey looks more brilliant by the day because not only does he have the market share. He's already solidified. The arguably said if i sounded top programs and you know anybody that thinks he's not gonna be able to run. The show with expansive playoff is is really You know arrogant here but if the rest of college sports doesn't want to deal with the the sec. I i don't really care you. And i don't think he does either knows it Because there's not what nobody is going to try to exclude them from anything. Because our everybody's gonna know they've got a minimum of eighteen war nazis in the last thirty forty years and so the route is being they are. They are the program. I mean they are. The conference will also thank you for the call. Caleb is up next in california. Hello caleb paul love the show. Thanks time caller. What did he do what your thoughts were on this arkansas team. But i i mean i would think you're doing pretty well based on everything i've read about you the last couple of years. Good afternoon all. Thanks for having me man. It's been been a good couple years for sure. Yeah before we get to the song. I hear you are guy that went to appalachian state you grew up in north carolina. And you followed your dream and to say you struck. Gold would be an understatement. And i know it's a great question to have to answer which is like to to be where you are with some of the biggest hits in recent national history. But how do you compartmentalize it. How does it. How do you process it. I don't know if i ever do. You know. I just tried to take it day by day and and you know be thankful as i can and try to give back as much as humanly possible you know. I didn't play guitar until ten years ago. I'm thirty one years old now. I was about a junior at appalachian state going into my senior year. When i picked the guitar up and had been singing. My whole life and just Man i got real lucky I got real real lucky man that that people liked what i was doing and Once i figured out what it was that i wanted to do man it was just. BYU, UCF, Cincinnati, Houston Considered Top Candidates for Big 12 Expansion
"A report out this afternoon at Ucf could be headed to the big twelve. I know you're there to do the game. Let that potentially could really have a lot of the effects especially with texas and oklahoma. What what do you make out of that report. That has ucf byu let me. I'm trying to remember. Who else is in that. Cincinnati and houston in that. Yeah lucky me. You just rattled off one powerful independent byu a couple of group of five schools cincinnati. A lot of people think for a playoff spot this year because the schedule and then. Ucs tonight pot. You know gus malzahn. Well i spoke with him yesterday. As part of our coaches call. And it's no secret. Malzahn took this job because he was one a good fit for him but to hey knows that. Ucf is on the verge getting out of that group of five corridor and getting into power. Five football dan stand that the the winds are change. You're going to happen every year. We talked playoff expansion to twelve teams which would benefit. Ucf gus malzahn cincinnati. Luke fickle until. I'm not surprised in the least bit that. Ucf is coveted spot wide. Because it's the state of florida smack down to the central their orlando. There's a lot of talent this team who's is gonna feel tonight has a ton of talent. And so look it's it makes sense if you're in the big twelve and you just lost taxes and you just lost oklahoma. We're going to sit here and say that you're going to replace those brands with cincinnati. Ucf byu in houston but you do get a couple of teams that together can stop that bleeding just enough to still compete and steal it. Pretty competitive conference

There's just a another new item to put on your list and try to manage and You know so. There's i can tell you there's never boring day right now paul but You know but what takes place in college. Athletics is so valuable. And and so good for so many people involved in and Silver very exciting to be a part of it every single day. There's so much to get you. And i wanna get obviously to your campus in a minute. We talked to greg sankey earlier and you know so much conversation around the country today in relation to what happened yesterday. And i ask you because you spent a lot of time in the pac twelve early in your career and obviously as the athletic director at arizona. Could you give us your view of what we all watched yesterday with. the three commissioners form forming the alliance. Yeah listen i understand that. Collaboration is important. Part of anything that you do to have the healthiest environment that you can have and you know so. I understand where the conference is to try to work together Sec's always been good about that. And and so. When when i was watching that i understand the purpose of it and the thought of it at the same time to You know schools moving from one conference to another has happened in the. Sec's happening the acc. Big twelve the pac twelve and the big ten and so this is not i think i mentioned a pat forty yesterday when he called me about it. I said it's not a new phenomenon. That's taking place. This is something that is reality. Schools are going to look after their their own interests and because of making sure that they can do the right thing for their student athletes and their program and their university for the law all and their fans as well And you know i did. Alabama's number one but oklahoma's number two clemson. You have been demoted. Clemson's only number three in the ohio. State georgia so you now have a three versus five matchup. Thank that matchup gets worse. Every time we look at it just kidding. Of course am number six. I was state. Cincinnati notre dame north. Carolina made the top ten north carolina in the top. "So let's just have no expectations of georgia georgia fans. You know what i mean. Let's just do a win. One for the gipper kind of approach to the season. And then maybe they'll surprise all of us and actually seal the deal this side we dunkin in case you were wondering where that optimism is coming from l. I'm curious a couple other things. You were pretty good athlete in your day. When yesterday morning arrived and college players are able to make money legally for the first time your thoughts and how do you think it's going so far. Yeah i mean. I was not surprised at all that there's a bunch of them that have already lined up. Maybe i was a little bit surprised about the kind of endorsements right. I wouldn't think of like a nineteen year old with a lighting company I had lava lamps. When i was eighteen. But that's fine I think it's about time it's interesting because many many many years ago covering sports Talking to these blue chip athletes the by the way played a sport at the biggest school. You can play this sport at right. And he was a blue chip guy and he was getting. You know a fifty dollars stipend a week. These athletes can't work because their job is being an athlete and securing billions of dollars for their school for the nc double a. For the boosters. They don't have the opportunity to work like other college. Kids did and it was eye opening to me. The struggle that he had to struggle of wanting to leave school early to go and help his family and he's sort of ended up doing that instead of saying in school and maybe growing a little bit more in his sport he left And so. I think it's long overdue. I think this idea that like athletes should just be so happy to get a college degree when that is not everyone's goal that's not everyone's not everyone grows up saying all i want in the world is a free education. Some people really need to be able to contribute to their family and their family depends on them. So simply saying we're gonna make all this money. You just need to be lucky to be here. That never was good enough. So i'm glad that these young people and let me caution. Paul your viewers your listeners. All of us old folks from scolding these kids. And i keep seeing like us. Old grandpa's being like google tax attorney like these kids are very well versed on business practices. They are so much more advanced than we were at their age. So give them the grace and understanding that they know what they're doing But i would say that it now becomes a new wrinkle paul when you bring these kids into schools outside of just adjusting to being an athlete and being away from home for the first time. Now you're going to really have to help them learn how to build their business acumen. So i hope that when some of these parents have these coaches sitting in their living rooms recruiting their kids. They're making sure they're leaning on the business aspect as well. Young people are googling tax attorney right now l. so i i'm still somewhat stupefied by your national championship prediction. I'm going to let that settle in. i don't want to. I don't want to upstage that with any any other more difficult questions but we are so glad that you are are here today. And how are you Paul it's always a pleasure. Thanks for africa for a weeks for college sports. It has been really remarkable. And i want to talk about the aspect that you wrote about this this week in the post because i thought i was reading about myself even though i was a little bit outdated for for your piece because we all start as young reporters college college sports scandal was the ticket and we finally reached a point as you write about. "Was the athletic director at vanderbilt candice story lee when she issued a public statement which we shared with you earlier which brought this to light for. The first time. Clinton had tweeted something. But there's a big difference between a reporter tweeting something in the athletic director of the university in question making a public statement so i. I don't know the answer to this. But i'm assuming is not a very very good thing. I have spoken to john cone of mississippi state and the statement that kansas issued is this. I am deeply troubled that some of our student athlete. Parents were subjected to racist slurs. During last night's game this is. This is absolutely unacceptable and disgraceful behavior and such hateful. Language has no place anywhere in our society to the family members who were impacted. "Recruiting pool. That are willing to play for notre dame. It'd be good as long as brian. Kelly there that they could be in the playoff most years so they basically are saying. We're giving up the chance at that by every few years to get in. Let's say five years we get a by but now we're going to get in three or five years I think that's a deal. They're willing to make. And i think they look at the home gate of that. First round a good thing. It's a huge money maker and You know if you know. I think the home dates will be. Thanks so i don't think notre dame really got swindled on. That's what they had to give up yet this. I thought that was a pretty decent. The alfie notre dame's giant Conference anytime stoop dan. What's from yahoo. Dan hancock earlier. Today on the show said this. The championship games are going to be more consequential. And that's one that a lot of people are scratching their heads. Because if you have to top four teams playing for the big ten or the sec. Or whatever yes. The winner gets an advantage but the losers still getting in the playoffs. So can you addressed app part. I know you heard that yesterday. Yeah i i've been saying for years that they should They should go. They should eliminate the conference championships altogether. they should eliminate divisions that she'd go back. They're just running conferences. And have your cat and you're gonna have a twelve team playoff. Find a way to determine who. Your champion is without playing a conference championship game. Conference games are ridiculous in a competitive sense because they're basically geography based So if you're in a certain part of your you know you're in the sec. West and the ester c. e. is loaded or vice versa usually You get the big ten west. You just get seated in. It makes no sense. 'cause they always are talking about well. Every game must matter and everything must be competition and then they create these incredibly on justified ways to set up a copper shipment based on geography which has just. There's no point you know no points for geography of football game. So i would get rid of these things altogether now understandably people make money off it. They're gonna get rid of I don't think more consequential. I think don't continue to have problems. But if you really look at convert ship.

How Covid Will Affect Sports This Fall
"One of the things that's on everybody's mind is the travel outlook for this fall. And really what we're talking about. We could be facing as soon as the olympics but all the way in to the fall football season so we're going to get a little expertise on that in the in the form of matt trout. Who joins us from. Sports travel magazine. You could check out a great article. He's got out there on sports magazine dot com talking about the latest sports at cove. Nineteen and really what everybody's trying to do. When it comes to opening stadiums to full capacity and matt. This is an interesting conversation and appreciate your joining the show. Sarah and i on. Spain and fitz have talked a lot about the olympics and some of the challenges. They're facing now is even japan. They're they're not sure that the olympics are safe so as you look at what every single league is trying to do to put forth the effort to put fans in stands. How confident are you at this. Point that we're gonna face what feels like a normal fall. I'm fairly confident. I think An thanks jason. Of course obviously for beyond. But i am fairly confident that we're going to be seen full stadiums In college football pro football all the pro spa sports by the fall. Especially you know you look at major league baseball. And and opening day Obviously the attention on texas rangers having a capacity crowd but everybody did have some restricted level of capacity. And you look at it now. And there's gonna be i think it's close to twenty teams by the fourth of july. That will be having their standing there. Stadium open at one hundred percent capacity. And i think when you go into the fall of the olympics obviously is a totally different animal because of the situation in japan. But i really believe that in this in college football season whether you're watching an sec. Game or pat close game or a group of five game that you're going to be seeing Stands that there might be one or two sections that are socially distanced but for the most part. I think you're gonna see everybody back to what it was. Almost in in in many ways a pre pandemic. Oh set up

"Nc double a. is expected to announce today that the baseball and softball championships will allow one hundred percent capacity local and state guidelines allow. That's the key there depends on where where the where the situations are but mo- most are going to. There could be people that don't and that's really big news if you remember on march twelfth. Last year the day the the covert became a global pandemic as the was cancelling. The basketball tournament was also canceling everything else and think about how different things are right now.
