"Music throughout the show. The holiday season. What can we say? We don't have any New Year's songs old lanes. I'm that's it are we we pass on that one right? Can't play that if you want. Now, we're we're. I'm Tracy Johnson. Filling in for Steve skiff eighty in the studio with me, we have Waukesha county executive Paul Farrell just kind of working through the the issues of the week. Last segment. We talked through some of the picks for the new cabinet for governor elect, Tony Everts also touched on the DNC convention and who's who's going to pay for it. Who's going to put the ten thousand dollars ten million dollars down the ten million dollar guarantee? But right now, really the big news of the day. Is this the government shutdown we enter day seven up the government shutdown and right now President Donald Trump and saying what shut it down. I'm going to close the border. I am going to close this whole thing down until I get my border border wall. Funding is this is this the right approach and and who's going to win this game. I don't think there's going to be any winners. And again when you look at this when it built up to the conversation that was in the Oval Office with the legisla. Native leaders in the president you could tell from that point that nobody really wants to find the solution. And I think that's the biggest challenge that we're seeing right now, we talked a little bit earlier before we came in about negotiation. We're not seeing or not hearing about negotiations that are occurring any conversation that that are going on. And I think when you look at the broader picture of what's happening the shutdowns without impacting people per se. Other than going to the park southern going to the locations. In fact, I just read a story that January first there was a walk that always goes out of lamp and peak park. They can't do the walk because the insurances through the department of the interior. And so they can't have it. So this is the kind of the first thing that I'm hearing of ruffling in Milwaukee county that sometimes occurred. But it's it gets to a point where people are going to say enough is enough. We have almost a visceral hatred for something. And we don't know what it is. You know, some people decided that they hate the president others decided to hate the other side of the aisle. What I think really is happening is nobody's willing to stand up and just say, okay. You guys it's time to take a deep breath. It's time to clear the air and get it done. We've got to sit down and realize that we can work together. We can talk to each other. We can have conversations we can agree to disagree. We were laughing about it. So when I family was together, I think everybody out there. If you haven't watched at least, one hallmark movie this year. There's something we were joking and said, maybe that's what we should do is have congress have to watch on a day. Oh, all the hallmarks to realize that you can be helpful. You can you can work together you can get things done. So Donald Trump, though wrote the book on negotiation, right? The art of negotiation. And I think a lot of people are finding some fault in his negotiation strategy, but you talked about the adult in the room, and you talk about this meeting that took place on on December eleventh the meeting where Donald Trump said I will own shutdown in it's the meeting where Donald Trump and Nancy Pelosi couldn't even look at each other. So who is that adult in the room who's gonna come come come along and clean this thing up but not just solve for border funding. Border funding is just one piece of it. It said immigration reform that we've really had the opportunity to say, how do we solve a bigger issue? Well, and I think that's the key. We've got to find someone who's willing to say immigration reform has to get done in you. We have to agree that it has to get done right now. We're still using it as a punching bag for both sides. You're not willing to do this. We're not willing to do that whatever it might be until we finally get group. Individuals to come together and say we've got to solve a problem. People want to come here. People want to start their lives here in one to grow and be benefiting US citizens. How do we make that happen? How do we streamline the process? How do we get things going in the day of technology that we live in? It's amazing that I can go on in order things in thirty seconds and have them delivered. But it's still takes years for someone to go through these citizen citizen process. Not saying that it's the same thing. But. Ability for us to move things forward. If we want to right now, we don't want to well at some point. This can't be the punching bag. We talk about the adult in the room. Who's who? If you had a crystal ball who is that person right now at the federal level who's going to get this get this done. I mean, we no longer have Paul Ryan who I think many people saw as a significant factor in the progress that was made with many of the Trump reforms. But who who is that person? It's going to be interesting. I think that's the key. I don't I don't think there is one. If I had to look at someone and say, this is the voice that I wanna hear of reason that can come out and get things done. I think it's the vice president when you look at vice president Pence in what he was able to accomplish as a governor in what he still comes in and talks about talks in when you hear him talk. He is an adult. He knows that there's issues he knows that we need to get them done. But he also knows the only way to do it is to come together and get it done. Well, and he's one that was in some of those kind of closed door meetings. There was closed door is closed door can be in Washington. Really trying to sit down and say, okay, how about two billion dollars for this wall? And this is in the same breath that we're hearing Nancy Pelosi say, you know, what heck with your negotiation. Heck with your wall funding when I come back. I'm gonna pack pass spending Bill I'm going to open the government. It's not gonna include porter funding. It's going to be passed by the Senate. It's going to go to the president. He's going to veto it. I'm going to override that veto. So where where does that really get us? So to your point Mike Pence. I mean, maybe that's the arsenal. The tool in in President Trump's are. So maybe that's part of the plan all along. And we'll see what happens. I mean when you look the negotiation the president has reached high on a number of things and has come in just a little bit lower than those. But there's a lot of wins. And we're seeing a lot of growth in the economy because of them, well, and the other I think really interesting factor and in maybe another week or two of polling will tell us even more his. Parity. Just does not move. It. Is it is solidly? Okay. And it's solidly does not move. No matter what happened. So I think that this is one that may reach a fever pitch. It may just be another chapter in the story that is the presidency of Donald J Trump what Waukesha county executive Paul Farrow in in with me in the studio, Tracy Johnson on WTMJ. "We have with us in studio, Waukesha county, executive, Paul Farrow. Thank you for joining me this random me. All right. So we're going to dip into some of these issues. Can I just talk through them? Just this week. We saw an articles in USA today in the journal settle about the democratic national convention Embiid. And and basically the way this is playing out is that in order to move forward with this bid. There has been requests for a ten million dollar guarantee. And this guarantee is something that they ask for from all of the candidates for the whole cities. And they're kind of this this finger pointing game who should be responsible for for putting up this money. What is what is your take on this? Have you been involved in any of these discussions? I have not been. Again, democratic national convention Republican probably high endless there, but we don't wanna hear I still want to hear. And that's the key. When you look at what they're talking about. They're looking at a seventy million dollar influx of money coming in because of this convention. There are a number of different times where other states other cities have hosted these in you see that that perk that comes with the money that follows that the whole event, I think we're at a situation right now and mayor Barrett. I think is on the forefront and has done a very good job. So far, and has said that really that there isn't any public money that we have that we can put forth we're going to have to look for individuals that are going to be able to help us in and be there. You know, I think that's one of the keep components when I look at the overall picture the reason why I think the DNC is looking at this one is because we are incredibly exciting state when it comes to politics exciting. Is that the white board? I look at it. It's fun. It is in Zillah radio. There's never a dull moment. I think it's one of those situations where you you pair that with a brand new arena. And you look at the Pfizer forum, and what the bucks have in what the state has been able to put forth. I mean, keep in mind, we put two hundred and fifty million dollars in this to create this new area that is one of the perks of why they're coming here. So when we look at public investment, I think we've already done a lot of public investment in what's going on. I think there's gonna be some creativity. That's needed. You're going to need to look at the sponsors. You're gonna have to create a host meteor something. I think the Landry's been out front saying that this is something that they want to look at. I there's a lot of opportunity for the private sector to step up. Well, speaking of the last race Mark classroom spoke at a recent business journal event. And I do recall that when asked that question, the response was that the public sector really needed to to step up for for this and that the host committee or. The people that have been assembled have been really kinda tapped out on a lot of these resources. So if this is the the decision factor. This is the decision point. Do you think that public private will come together and make this happen? Or is this going to be like, hey, hey, we put it out there, and we're gonna play the blame game. And we're just gonna let the potato fall as I look at it. If you want to get something done you've got to be able to negotiate it. And I think that's what you're looking at right now, the the private sector saying the public has to step up the public scene seeing the private has to step up the democratic national convention is a private entity when you look at it and what they're trying to do. We've had a number of different conventions. When you look at NFL has brought in their organizations they put the Bill for what's going on. They're asking for a collaboration. I think we've already done a lot. I think there's going to be continuing discussions. It'll be interesting to see how governor elect even if he gets involved having this here, there's could be some conversations there's creativity that's out there. I think there's ways that you can find the funds and work it through. We'll see what they can do. Well, and speaking of governor elect either is he is he has more cabinet picks coming yet today. In fact, it's probably going to happen in the later part of this this hour, but over the past week there have been several announcement about those new secretary picks and his new cabinet picks. Any of those excite you any of those standout as either really great news for our state or any of those that concern, you well, I think when you look at the numbers that have been out there ready. The big one everybody talks about is Craig. And looking at the very Thompson. I think is going to be an interesting individual there. I've worked with Craig on a number of situations when we were working through the east west quarter tear in the ninety ninety four finishing. We worked on trying to get things done. I think he has a unique perspective it's going to be a challenge coming from where he's coming from right now kind of more on the lobbying side of it all to get things done. And so I think it's going to be one where we're going to have to move forward with it the one that I'm impressed with I think is going to be a good job is pressing coal over the DNR. He comes from a good background, even in Milwaukee. With his background is an experience people that I've talked to who are involved with the DNR are very excited about having their well one thing that I remember seeing about that pick was the more a greater concentration and focus on science. And maybe building that staff with more scientists naturalism Byrom analysts, and that was something. As we saw in the last administration. There was more of a focus on the business and the customer service. So I guess the hope for for me, at least as someone who kind of looks at in depends on that agency is that we can find some sort of happy medium there a balance they're working with the customer service and the business aspect, but also obviously concerning with the environmental aspects as well when we come back after the break. I want to get your opinion on this poll that was released the most admired man and woman in America county executive for Waukesha county, Paul Farrell in with me today in the studio, it's eleven twenty five on WTMJ. Eleven twenty seven on WTMJ, Tracy Johnson.

"We don't have any new year songs. Zayn? That's it are we we pass on that one right? Play that if you want now, we're good. We're good. I'm Tracy Johnson. Filling in for Steve skiff eighty in the studio with me, we have Waukesha county executive Paul Farrell just kind of working through the the issues of the week. Last segment we talked through some of the picks for the new cabinet for governor elect, Tony Everts also touched on the DNC convention and who's who's gonna pay for it? Who's going to put the ten thousand ten million dollars down the ten million dollar guarantee. But right now, really the big news of the day. Is this the government shutdown we enter day seven up the government shutdown and right now President Donald Trump and saying, you know, what shut it down. I'm going to close the border. I am going to close this whole thing down until I get my border border wall. Funding is this is this the right approach and who's probably gonna win this game. I don't think there's gonna be any winners. And again when you look at this when it built up to the conversation that was in the Oval Office with the legislatively. Leaders in the president you could tell from that point that nobody really wants to find a solution. And I think that's the biggest challenge that we're seeing right now we talked a little bit earlier. Came in about negotiation. We're not seeing or not hearing about negotiations that are occurring any conversation that that are going on in. I think when you look at the broader picture of what's happening. The shutouts impacting people per se. Other than going into the park. So then going into the locations. In fact, I just wrote a story that January first there was a walk that always goes out of Lamping peak park. They can't do the walk because the insurances through the department of the interior. Oh, and so they can't have it. So this is the first thing that I'm hearing ruffling in Milwaukee county that something's occurred. We got to sit down and realize that we can work together. We can talk to each other. We can have conversations we can agree to disagree. We were laughing about it. So when I family was together, I think everybody out there. If you haven't watched at least, one hallmark movie this year. There's something. We were joking. He said, maybe that's what we should do is have congress have to watch on a day. Oh, all of the whole merge to realize that you can be helpful. You can you can work together you can get things done. So so Donald Trump, though wrote the book on negotiation, right? The art of negotiation. And I think a lot of people are finding some fault in his negotiation strategy, but you talked about the adult in the room. And it's about this meeting that took place on on December eleventh, the meeting where Donald Trump said I will own this shutdown in it's the meeting where Donald Trump and Nancy Pelosi couldn't even look at each other. So who is that adult in the room who's gonna come come come along and clean this thing up, but not just solve for border funding, border funding is just one piece of it. It said immigration reform that we've really had the opportunity to say, how do we solve this bigger issue? I think that's the key. We've gotta find someone who's going to say. Immigration reform has to get done in you. We have to agree that it has to get done right now. We're still using it as a punching bag for both sides. You're not willing to do this. We're not willing to do that whatever it might be until we finally get group. Individuals to come together and say, we've got Salva problem. People want to come here. People want to start their lives here in one to grow and be benefiting US citizens. How do we make that happen? How do we streamline the process? How do we get things going in the day of technology that we live in? It's amazing that I can go on in order things in thirty seconds and have them delivered. But it still takes years for someone to go through these. Citizen citizen process, not saying that it's the same thing. But there is ability for us to move things forward. If we want to right now, we don't want to at some point. This can't be the punching bag or we talk about the adult in the room. Who's who? If you had a crystal ball who is that person right now at the federal level who's going to get this get this done. I mean, we no longer have Paul Ryan. Who I think many people saw as a significant factor in the progress that was made with many of the Trump reforms. But who who is that person? It's going to be interesting. I think that's the key. I don't I don't think there is one. If I had to look at someone and say, this is the voice that I wanna hear of reason that income out and get things done. Really trying to sit down and say, okay, how about two billion dollars for this wall in this is in the same breath that we're hearing Nancy Pelosi say heck with your negotiation. Heck with your wall funding when I come back. I'm going to pass a spending Bill I'm going to open the government. It's not gonna include porter funding. It's going to be passed by the Senate.
