"Have you done any virtual shows during the pandemic only a million but everything else yes off. They fell out. He newson they literally just quesnoy. Put my hand. I haven't used wired. Earbud is such a long time was very painful. What you know. It seems like ever had one of those things where it doesn't really hurt but it startles you so much that you think. Yeah offending you realize you're a big baby when it gets caught on the handle of a of a drawer. Yeah have you ever said how win. Something did not thousand times. It's mortifying loan. So you've done other virtual program. Yes you know what the i i actually what i enjoyed about it was i liked getting my little studio setup like i liked figuring out the cameras and lights and backdrops and shit like that. I came to really enjoy that part of it and realize like oh this is the thing i could do anytime like lauren laptops and i were doing monthly shows for a while and after things and then she she had to take a break to have her baby and it was like we can do this every once in a while without we do it on stage where we could just do it here. And that's kind of fun. And i love the dynasty now dynasty typewriter theater here in la is now doing live streaming shows from the theater on my fucking great man. I should we should. We should be embracing this stuff now and figuring out how to reach more people still do local shows but you can still reach people. I'm excited about that. I'm really excited about that. It should be a little while to get into the idea. But once i did. These shows for flappers. I'm not stopping them in. The audience does not want me to stop. Yeah and because you're reaching like you're absolutely reaching people that can't come to a comedy. It's so fun and i mean nothing beats live and nothing ever will but it is nice that there's this extra option. Yes now we have now. Have you done a live show. No i'm doing. I live show back will be september twentieth. I'm doing bringing back my variety show right a- at the lodge room i think it's just labrum in highland park which is an amazing venue I went to a party there. And just really it's it's a restored masonic lodge and it has a beautiful stage With with the bar inside and outside the room you can shut down the bar inside for the show. It's bids tremendous brand new sound systems. Eat well they do. A lot of music shows there and most of those are standing so they can really pack people in. I'm doing a sort of two hundred and fifty seated and then some standing tickets as well as already sold out which i'm very excited by sold out like in a day and i can't wait. I'm i'm having stress dreams and anxiety like thinking about it because it's not just getting back on stage but it's a big fucking production with a lot of moving parts and during the day i cannot wait i'm very excited about it. And then my subconsciousness. Tortures me Our podcast is in may. And just we're already having those stress dreams now because again a lot of moving parts and it's in may banana can't wait. I can't wait. I'm so looking forward to being back on. I'm looking forward to the pandemic combat. We can push back another years. Come on by the way way. I recognized bad debit end soon. They say that's what it just means. They're all the time. Yeah well it maintainable. I mean that's the word sounds scary but the idea of what you just said exactly man is near civilization. "Again. So what do you a logic. You should have a fallback. But they're telling you even get renews some saying don't just say no move on. I read up on what. Why not because like if we had ranked voting than it would make sense to have a fallback but theoretically if you are voting against the recall. You're essentially voting for gavin newsom. Do i know a lot about snacks or not. I don't know right away. I know there's a better word than apparatus to describe a part of something like a more technical work you could have been industrial design could have been part of it. Maybe the rearend sure. I i think if it were oliver. He would've said snacktime drink beverages beverly young children. They're the future. Hold their hands and mckinley the way. Teach them well to quote myself. The good part was So i did the first stage of Of updating a kiosk in a park great does it mean for the neighbor council. We have this place where we have to display. The would've loved it. "Can't get any dumber folks. you can't talk at cannot meet you. It's going to be a tough night. Yeah just imagine you actually saying that. Probably have yeah. Put it past. But that's old seinfeld thing of like he just refuses to admit that there's a such a thing as a bad crash. What in that documentary. He complains about the audience with no irony. Sanjay robots absolutely famous. Do you have to get a quiet. You're the one that wanted to go. I do love it. He said let's go to the miserable. Governors house is a very funny for ornie. Adams wrote is career. What did he have to good. He's a good comic. I think he. I think he could have bigger career. I've never. I don't think i've ever met mainly montreal. When you're i don't know oranje but it did seem like i remember at the time thinking. This is an interesting juxtaposition blah blah blah and and arnie's like the villain that won't listen to seinfeld or whatever and when you think about it now i think like why do they have to drag him into it talking with to make seinfeld better just about you dude. Aleinu sense let's make sure that guy doesn't ever career but wasn't the idea was the idea to also highlight him. Did they have the same mandate. Yes here we go chaperone bold gambit. "Feed. The dog. don't unplugged the microphone. He knew he said safe the audience when you talk this guy. Nick is rule number four. Tell jokes this'll be bill. Hicks principles of comedy. Oh yeah okay. Twelve of them. If you can see yourself on stage nobody else can be you and you have. The law of supply and demand covered number to be hacked. Is something you fall back on. If you can't think of anything else to say he's wrong put only unless you're unless you. This is my stupid fairly saw. This last after number two just got stage for a normal person. That's crazy thing this utah. Wendy liebman that no when you leave me goes with all up on stage with zero material and then if you have to do your job is material what the job is yes. Job is material number. Three elliott's list defeat. We're gonna get on this thing only paraphrase only what you think is funny. Never just what you think they will like. Even though it's not that funny to you a man never ask them. Is this funny. You tell them this is funny. These are know when that comes up guys after funny. Okay so we're up to seven. Oh boy not great by the way. I'm sorry guys my buddy scams calling. This is bad time to have that name. That's a bad number five. You are not married to any of this shit. If something happens taking you off on a tangent never go back and finish a bit. Just move on. Never never i actually disagree with that depends. It depends where you're at if you need to go back because the audience is gonna be like. Yeah but what about the bubba. Also if you can get back to that bit when a smooth way period no question. That's exciting doesn't disagree moments. Yeah anyway okay. Bill have bill hicks added. And it's funny as an audience member. I will say i it would kind of drive me nuts. If someone started something and never finished it felt unfinished. Agreed if it felt infant. But there's some riffs where you could stop in the middle. Nobody would know any better absolutely strand. Again you're riffing because you went up on stage with nothing prepared goal with the act as a parachute edzard. Never asked the audience. How you doing people who do that can't think of an opening line. They came to see you. Tell them how they're doing asking that stupid question. Friend just digs a hole. I know you're emmett erupted. When you meet somebody. I i'll tell you that's the first piece of advice to the young comics. Don't say how are you are. That's what you do when you meet people. It's true. But i feel that is valuable because it's like it's nothing nothing at best. It's a gauge of where the audience's energy is up top. But i do think it is. I i agree with the point of this is like you are supposed to be in control of the move. I agree with that and it's also it's just a waste of time. It is but at the same time though. I think sometimes you need the segue from nothing to if you just start going on at the store but you can. There's other things you can do. Besides just launching an immaterial. You could say hi everybody. Your horse do all sorts of fun and doug licenses you're using doug benson's opening i do feel like there are audiences who will get mad at you if you start with joke. Oh yes it'll be like what is happening. You didn't break us in at all that that i've felt that before. I read them in a funny way conversational. Or whatever does it have to be like. Does that depend on them like i. It's funny when you watch younger comics. And there's a lot especially in clubs. There's a lot of question asking a lot of lot of whole taking anybody know about this and it's like it tells them about dogs out people dogs out there. Mark dog out here dawson. Now where my cat people who please continue to finish. That is the most eight by performers. I want to leave as soon as i say that okay. So it's just that specific crazy. Yeah doesn't like how you doing fine right when entertains joey trip beyond injured. Oh man opened with that line. That's your catchphrase. Is there any footage of him. Doing stand up. Surprisingly they did not write that into an episode. Why they should. That's why because they were trying to make a point this is just for one on one. Interactions this is not for addressing group fair and he would say it in a lascivious lascivious. What you're say show sean. Connery didn't do that. Suddenly in the nineties seems like how did they not make him do standup anymore. Chevy sean how you sean connery as chandler. Bing wonderful geyser. Wait you if you can't be funny be interesting. You haven't lost the crowd have something to say and do it in a funny way. Okay yeah. I think that encourages do we know. The bill hicks actually sat down and said here twelve fair. Good question right. I have no idea it be crazy if someone just attributed this all to him with having no knowledge of the internet's not like people writing shit down. I don't know it just saying this stuff. And conversations go. Hi hicks i see him nailing this to the door of a comedy club like for a taste of.

I'm picturing this whole scenario and now i want to see a dog version of the famous. Howie mandel glove on the head bit. You ever just give one of the extra gloves to the dogs do they. Were comedies. knobs wouldn't do it but they would listen to bill hicks material. Government has despite rules of comedy and we hang them in the green room at the club so that the comics. No what i can't. What were they again. I couldn't tell you for a million dollars. I sort of remember this. And i wanna know guarantee. Can you look that up better with just yet. But don't.

"Jokes or does this guy have any other bits. I came running down and she goes. It's this guy with the continental. I worked with him. One time i had a great time with off stage i found it really really really funny and i've never met him but i've i've really never heard a bad thing about him. You know what you mean. Yeah yeah but it's that that era of like a. Because i remember. When i started he was of course like an established. Yes headliner you know he was. He was a big deal he was not he was not like you know there was. There was famous within the community. You know what. I mean where it's like. This guy is a big deal. There are certain dudes that even though they are not household. Names they are you know. They're they like destroy everywhere they go in. You know whatever. And i don't remember ever hearing about about don't did you ever meet a guy named david. Say no but i know tell i heard tell of a great hotel. Great stories hotel motel. He worked with him a couple times and i liked that he would always he was extremely low energy right like not low energy but he was quiet almost an a comedian like he didn't talk about this and he delivered all this stuff like this and there was something that was very soothing. Many really close on the mike but he would. I am emcee for him he would say. Don't say headliner. Just say here's the last guy every time and i was like okay. Yeah i get that. It's like i guess. Head lighter bakes. It seemed like he's going to be higher energy that he is but the thing i remember the bitter remember the most was he talked about going to paris. And he's checking into a hotel and there's a tv in the lobby and they're showing a planet of the apes and it's dubbed in french and he's laughing at it and the woman behind the desk is trying to help him and he's he keeps laughing and she's not laughing and so sweetheart. Don't you understand these speaking.

"Gets it. Mr gets it first of all. You're going to fool them doesn't make improvements but gets it. I am shit i love. It is was angel. Cells are the was he in punchline. Check it out. That's that's a very elite group. The few comics that got cast in the big hollywood movie about stand up comedy did not really capture and then those people did not explode. Zobel pan that penn. Addison a lot She was She can't remember very cute. Redhead straight hair. that's what i'm doing. I remember. I remember so little about that movie. I remember the comedy with not good but there was performed well satellites the only time and they did a good job of making it. Sound like comedy honestly. The biggest problem in stand up comedy representations in tv and film is the audience. It's the laugh track because they'll just put their afraid of the silence. Let's put labs for setups setups. But i remember tom. Hanks having the breakdown. Because somebody flicked frog i on him and mid school but then his father was in the audience though right yeah and was a kermit smith. Everyone's dad for many years. Yeah and that is so uncomfortable. That scene where he bombs in front of the casting people or whatever it is tonight show people hate. That movie came out. Because i was new into comedy and i liked just anything about what i was getting involved with. I was in comedy enough at that point that i was prime to hate it. Okay now we all. We all kind of went loaded for bear. All my friends were like okay. Let's see this. And then of course it was like the locker rooms and all that shit i wonder if that existed anywhere or if they just made that up solely lockers at the factory here in los angeles like right next to the bathroom. There was like a row of lockers. They were just remember that. I'm only been there a few times. big big outbreaks covered outbreaks at factory. And the comedy store. Oh surprising yes me at all no that that would be the number one. That's petri dish. That is those rogan idiots. They're all over there roast each other. Here's roast. there's a guy. I don't know if he's still there but i did a A live show their live podcast there. Somebody's podcast at a guest on and the guy who was the booker. I guess it'd been there not that long and he's like. Hey if you ever want to come down here do spots. I know the reputation of the places have. We're trying to change everything and you know we'd love to have you there any named like other comics that i knew i was like. Oh yeah thanks. Thanks for telling me. The next day there was a report is already getting stabbed. That's not his fault. Insurance sort of had sort of fit in with again. He actually stabbed. You know what's funny. I did a similar thing. There must be the same guy Got the same speech. Yeah we're trying to change the so and so it's been here so please come and they must be trying and it's not working because it is truly just the same well it's a negative energy roaster by the way i love like a roast. I'm not sure sure. Sure sure but it's too much much. That's the that's the prevailing thing. Yes and it's like there's a lot of people that think. That's just what comedy is is like shitting on people and it's that's shades. You could talk about that but that place. I'm not a big wu energy guy but that place hate is bad. Edgy you walk out yeah. I perform their total of three times. And because i don't. I'm not comfortable and because you walk in and say i don't like this energy and then bring that on stage and then i. I don't do very well because the whole time like well at some point. Somebody's gonna yell at me because that's what they do here so i don't forget yelled at their. You got like people like like no in fact you can just walk around. Nobody ever stops shit. I got that what man i did. You remember comics in new york. I was in the meatpacking x. I want to say. Bobby collins was a part owner of it. Yeah yeah to you get there if.

Nancy griffith passed away a singer songwriter. Who comes up quite a bit on the show but a lot more jimmy's records and tapes because she's at least twice at least twice right to singer-songwriter top five and then i want to say in season one. I talked about You made this love of teardrop. And then i'm sure there are a couple of off hand references. Well along the way. But i did not know to me. And then she passed away so said it's just a and you know i i'm with you. It's ridiculous to be grieving. Somebody i never met but those songs you know. As i mentioned when i bought the storms cassette I just had their horrible record with jennifer and so that that cassette along with steve perry's love is strange medicine. Those two carried me And so you have that emotional. So i don't claim to have known her. I don't claim to. They'll sometimes things hit you. Yeah and it hit me. I was in the car and just was like i got a fact fan of ours. Tweeted at me jimmy. I know you're also a fan And it was like on the news or anything yet in Some other country musician or folk music posted. I just got a phone call I don't know if this is true. But i i. "I'm getting chills. Though because as you mentioned the music's playing costner's look at around it. Can we talk about that for one. Second it was great but it it was like he was kind of doing a performance. And that's fine but it felt like it went on a little too light. Oh disagree with that. At the same time i i did not know what was about to happen. Yeah so then. He kinda pauses in the fucking players walk out of the corn stalk. And if you don't take i started sobbing. I i was tearing up and then they walk out and i went. Holy shit like a loaded room. We should started crying off. Gave the tv. The hotel a standing ovation. Because i couldn't fucking believe what was happening like. I didn't know what to do. I was alone. I know so what you got. Yes and then a group that backed out and sobbed way. Like it's like like somebody from the outside go. There's more on just reacting to this. That is amazing. It was but it was so perfectly done. I think they appeared on nowheres. Just they somehow managed to shoot a live event that look. It looked like the movie in the sense. It didn't looks like the the film quality was still video. It was still live television but the way they just emerged from second was like a special effect looked amazing. This is my only complaint about the whole thing. I apologize bernardo. Was they then. Director chose to cut to another camera. Following aaron judge number ninety nine from behind. It's like no i don't give. Did you like that like that. You did the movie does that. They do mike algae. Yeah yeah i see them. Come out of the korczak then. It's very it's eerie and beautiful. But then yeah. I think so. I could be miss remembering what if you liked it it just for me. It's like i wanted to see more of them coming through i. I liked the initial moment of them coming out but then i also kind of like seeing. That looked cool to honestly see them walking like from behind the seeing the corn stalks around them and then emerging i it gave you a great view of of what they were experiencing of walking out and see crowd and seeing the field lit up. I mean that's beautiful to to me. It's all just how does that gripe. The grass was over the uniforms. The white sox war. They wish they would use that uniform all the because i am i am sick to death of the nineteen. Ninety-one yeah raiders looking fonte. It's corny. It was cool when they brought it back at first because it was like whenever that was a few years ago because it was ninety. One nineteen one. No no but i mean it was. I feel like it went away. Oh it's never going to have not changed their uniforms. How come they brought back the red version where occasionally and then they were the nineteen eighty three the us this guy across but yeah that they were wearing the like the black sock nineteen thousand nine hundred nineteen and it was and it looked wool like it looked like there was real the yankees were just wearing their uniforms. I don't know why they have a change of uniform. One hundred years i guess. That's probably what yeah. It just doesn't look as vintage because they always wears gray new yorker as the front. It was but i was going to say about it. I think i was a little annoyed that they that they did that. Shot of judge walking out from behind that it's the obsession with the yankees and the red sox and even though every director broadcaster network. Tell we talk about the marlins you don't you talk about the marlins for a minute and then you can't go back to talking the red sox and the yankees so to me. It was like we don't need to see aaron judge from behind. I like seeing all the players. This isn't about the yankees. It's about baseball to me. it didn't register. I registered that. It was a yankee. But i didn't really care. We know they were were they wearing pinstripe. Gushing yeah i was like it's just a player i didn't think about who it was or you know i'm not keyed into the game and the players enough to to register that as much as it was just like this is another view of one of the players coming So yeah. I didn't didn't take her. She's at monster monster. And then some of them walked over and said hello to to costner which is kind of. I don't know if that was. It seemed like that was not part of that was now but Who was it. I think liam hendriks to the white sox that he said you know. My wife told me two things you have to do something. And you have to say a little kevin costner suit like so i just walked over and so i liked the spontaneity of it. Honestly it was. It felt like real that you know why it would be weird. Not acknowledge him. Great as he's standing there. Like i said he was at a certain point. Meandering about the the outfield like stopping on the beat of the music so it was certainly choreographed right and to do it once he just to give you guys an idea. He kind of walked out and he had a ball in his hand and he would stop and he would just kind of go off and he did that about four times he. Did it like once you do that. You get that and then let's progress from that. I think dramatically then the next thing is. We're ready for the next thing to happen. But the next thing wasn't happening in it almost felt like when an actors on stage and like the other actor missed the q. Young out yet and so they just left to vamp and he was like he was like i just do that again. And i'll walk over here thing. I bet that's exactly what happened under the players had did not come out. They didn't come out. They weren't in the spot or whatever lake. It sounds like a dad guys worth the field that i'm just going to reenact the movie a a little bit about vibe to it also had a little bit of the vibe of an old man who is lost and doesn't know where his wife went comedy. Show it did. It did exactly what it was supposed to dinsdale was amazing. It's every on twitter. Because i thought it was like. Do i admit this on twitter. That i like dude was like holy shit. I cried at the opening of that is is this the first time they've done this. Yes okay 'cause. I'm which i they were supposed to do it last year. But the obviously covert. They're already planning on doing it next year. And they're like they've announced. We're doing to do it again. Next year. it was such a success. This was a success. Because you hadn't done it before you have the same pageantry but the next year but people will want to go. It should be if they do like the cubs because the cubs have iowa presence. I think it could work right. Let me say this..

yankees mike algae costner white sox aaron marlins red sox bernardo fonte liam hendriks raiders kevin costner baseball dinsdale us twitter cubs iowa

"We didn't we had book bags. We didn't have backpack we somehow when i was a kid. Backpacks were considered the least cool thing. Like you would be mocked if you had a back. Oh my god if a kid showed up the school the unless it was jerry. O'connor of jerry showed up at the backpack. Everybody would have backpacks next bucket but if somebody of hugh okada relation at all showed up so yeah backpack you going hiking you with poindexter porcupine yet. These the smartest of everybody with the backpack right and now. Those kids have rolling suitcase. And yes which is again if you teleported back in time to the eighty s and came to school with a rolling is first of all people would be like. How did you get wheels on a suitcase. And where can i punch you for doing that. The first wheels on suitcases by the way that they were tiny little one. Yeah that would that your shopping pulled around like a rabid dog. Yeah was awful and then what if we did it like this. And the and traveling changed traveling. It's crazy. how long it took to figure that out the think about all the time in human history. That people didn't have wheels under same time that they would make a metal that could fold up right and attached to the back of it. And then oh when it's time to use to unfold the wheels on the side and use like a cart. Nobody went what. If we just put those meals you like that existed and yet when they went to put it on the suitcase. They didn't do it. they don't like well they didn't. They ignored it. They're like no. It'd be better if there's an omni. Directional forearm directional tiny balls on the bottom of those suits with a little leathery to control. It just sounds in my lifetime. There were there was without wheels at all right and and yeah it would. It would be odd to see someone even using one of those things that you strap the wheels to. You'd be like oh. Wow that guy like you. Just kind of think. That person's like a little too like into travel there overthinking travel because they oromo lady i was like oh boy. Some kid thought that was a good christmas gift. I will say because we saw Jungle cruise last week and You know that's takes place in the teens. The during world war one and so and you've got the the classic scene of the the british guy who brings too much luggage to the to the jungle. And he's got like fifty thousand but but what remarked trunks just hear exactly and but what it made me realize is that right. I think it was like that because in the in the in the course of human history. It's a pretty a pretty recent Occurrence that people were even carrying their own luggage because for most of the last thousand years someone else was carrying it for them. And you didn't care. That was their job. There was to everywhere you went. There was someone to people maybe to pick it up and put it somewhere else and you would just walk through life because not carrying it all but to get back to school bags. We don't say when i was a kid. We we'd have tote bags like an l.l. Bean you might like like like a gym bag. No like literally like a tote bag like the a bigger version of what we used to have like the you know the white sox logo and nfl. Remember the a canvas bag. Pbs game but just bigger like a bigger gusset. Like i remember when we're very excited about the two inch. Gusset i do. I do like the to oriented. These were like six inch. Gusset tote bags i think. That's that's a. That's why i said we'll fit every textbook in it so you'd have and they'd six hold it because it did it have a shoulder strap knowing that. That's the thing it was before they even invented the longer strap. So you're you're carrying around like you your shoulder popping out because it's so fucking heavy. I'd never had any of this. I guess west coast week. You had a different like. I'm listening to you ongoing what. How did you get your bags to and from school. You're well you know what i had this conversation de l. She couldn't believe that. I didn't have backpacks date. Backpacks have been happening. Apparently out here forever forever. It was it was the jan sport. That was the thing that you didn't have a chance for the astle but otherwise everybody had backpacks with there was like sears backpack or whatever and the one thing that the cool kids did is heaven. Forbid you us both the you have to do the one the one one strap right until until nobody was watching and then you would use both. Because that's what backpacks do but that's what. i'm saying. We had backpack so then and then became so uncool. Even once was like one shoulder was not enough. They had to be banished completely from. But you're you agreeing with with with what with the with the backpack being on cool. It was I did a whole thing about who o'connor raised so so it wasn't that it was it was in style and then it went out of style thing east coast midwest type thing. It was younger than you guys you were you were packs for one thing wasn't only to go hiking and camping right. It was never in. Somebody's mind to go. What have we put those and send the kids school now. Those are in the garage. Thank you yeah. what did you use that. We had kind of those things that we now. Give away a podcast. We had like a sack strength. We had a sack and into the sack over the shoulder. I mean the first few years. Of course i would just rep a belt around in the one room schoolhouse that was just for kindergarten. First grade it was like a sack that you would i. You didn't wear like a backpack you you have a strap and a little bit of a strap because you would cinch it. Yeah and then you would hold and that was where your book your gym clothes carrying it around like a bag of dog shit about too late on on someone's planks pink. I'm sure my. Qc is hearing this and he can tell. We want to say it was canvas might have had the the hometown viking's logo on the side or for christmas. You would get the the minnesota. Vikings are chicago bears version of that gym bag. It was a gym bag but it was not not a duffle but not a duffle like a gym bag where you just throw your your dirty gym clothes in towel. Maybe a water bottle Maybe a sweat. Maybe maybe with a sweatpants. Weapons jim stuff. Yeah maybe you're if you wear glasses. You're jim glasses. Or if you're gonna play racquetball. Maybe your goggles. yes but not your racket. It wouldn't fit. Secondly there that can hold on the other hand special Beg for certain for the top of it. Put that little header. My dad did to have two different kinds of two guys. I am the microphone is on. I don't believe you. I don't believe you either. Don't believe okay so. I just unplugged input. I got to replace this fucking thing. Yeah yeah this is the third week in a row. Now i look. I've been busy with stuff. I'm sick of that. Fucking excuse to ahead so i wonder if we're still in a world because because we're talking about bags when we were kids and like if we're recapping on.

"But we welcome you in and we just waited document. What's happening here on the program that you guys two episodes or does not does not mean that in any way shape or form we've done. What did we twelve hundred. Does that sound accurate in the in the ballpark. Park it up. yeah. I don't really know i've lost. Actually we used to have that in april. Here's what happened. I'm gonna tell you why that a y. It's not updated. I didn't know if we're supposed to include the isolation files on the overall because they became a regular show. I don't know if anyone knows the answer to that. So i don't know do we count. I think we do based on listener feedback of. Thank you doing three shows a week. That would be yeah that they consider that a show if the if the listeners at a show i considered show. We're all doing shows. I'm just trying to okay. So the last time we have a stat elegant where where we were still counting Episode twenty six y was Want the one thousand nine fiftieth episode. I didn't hear what you're saying. Because i in my head. I have to say because we like you. Now go right ahead. Okay with the answer to twenty-six why because we like you that means we did season twenty-seven and season twenty eight number on this bush. That was ten fifty ten fifty. And we've done. What have you done since then what we've done two full seasons so that's fifty that's well it's Yes that's one hundred regular episodes so that would put us at eleven fifty and then let's add it if you want to add isolation files. That's another seventy right. So we're up to twelve hundred twelve twenty. Hey well not a bad. Guess on my part very good. Jimmy's a winner. Go grab mayor off the shelf. We welcome everybody in big day for matt belknap and i. Our kids went back to school. Today it's a lot of people as according to facebook. Good seems to be the thing. Some people started two weeks ago. Which i think is crazy. Some starting last week i think is equally as crazy and then this week. I still think it's crazy but zoe starting eighth grade. That's a big one. Charlie fourth grade. I want to say yep then And oliver started high school today. Very big which was just you know. He's going to a new school and say you know where he was going before was a charter school. Very small very You know did. The principal knew everybody's name one of those schools yet and then just dropping him off today. It's like this is a different world man. This is going to spelman. i don't i don't know the name of the college in a different world upside. Yeah he's got the filipo he's always He likes that guy. What's his name is raj which characters name. Well the dwayne dwayne wade wayne. Wayne i gotta close yeah What was the actor's name though. All harbison something. Harbison kareem artisan dream. Hartson yeah i want to say hakeem artisan but that doesn't sound rates. Orient kareem hartson. Did you work again after that. I don't know but the glasses have done very well. Condemn hardest had deem artisan. Would if you walked at every audition where those classes and they would you even know it was him without the glasses. I guess is the i was the castano murad. I knew he was coming in from meeting if you were watching tv. And a fifty five year old deem harbison showed up. Now i'm guessing he's roughly your age He didn't wear glasses. Just had the lisek i don't. I don't think you would know to the young men that played urkel. You're still know what circle he took all classes with spenders. He's still looks unmistakable. Jalil white i understand is that he's got a podcast doesn't doesn't need where he talks to other former child stars i think is it must be happening. I don't know that to be true but it sounds right. I think i think i mean you. You could basically just name anybody in the world and say i think they have a podcast. And you're probably right. I'm sorry my headphones were tries to ono in. So i will jimmy. Don't get it twisted there. We go so we're back good So yeah big. Big day for big school day dropping. The kids off. How was the did you guys get out of the car like what we did. Not because traffic was so bad. That we i pulled over to this. I found a place as pullover and just let them go and You know. I got a little emotional. Why Werner Herzog loves cat videos

"Today on studio. Three sixty what energizes the legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog sometimes when I don't know how to order my thoughts, I switched on crazy cat videos and immediately. I'm rejuvenated. We talk a lot about cat videos, the art of narration and his latest movie meeting. Gorbachev. Plus from the first time you heard this song, it was just absolutely mind. Melting. The story behind when doves cry, which prints released prepare to feel old thirty five years ago this week. This is what it sounds like the head on studio. Three sixty right after this. This is scheduled for sixty I'm currently at I'm sitting on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial this first level of guard this Thomas Jefferson's vegetable, I'd like to have the roasted chicken very well done, editing is all about timing. I tried to get a little bit away from the actual subject must get sick of your place, right? Three, sixty with good Anderson. Werner Herzog has made more than sixty movies. They're often about man versus extreme forces, the Amazon jungle in FitzGerald. Oh, active volcanoes in the documentary into the inferno. His latest film meeting, Gorbachev also fits into that frame. It's the story of Mikhail. Gorbachev versus a crumbling political and economic system. Food consensus, Kevin over a six month period last year and the year before Hertzog went to Moscow and interview the very last president of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Sekkei bitch. I'm sermon. And the first term and that you probably met wanted to kill you. Hertzog and a co director Andre singer, combined interviews with lots of archival footage to tell the story of the one Soviet leader almost everybody in America, and the west light even adored, and the film is all held together by Herzog signature narration here. His home village is it looks today. It is hard to imagine that from such a godforsaken place in the middle of nowhere, one of the greatest leaders of the twentieth century emerged. And when Hertzog is here with me now to talk about meeting Gorbachev, sir. Welcome back to studio. Three six eight thank you. Thank you for having me. So you feel three long conversations with Gorbachev. How did you prepare for those mostly reading I did a lot of homework? I read compensates memoirs Rhoda most excellent biography by William helpmann. Otherwise, I arrived without pain, my hands. I didn't have a catalog of Chris that would rectal down. It was just a conversation from men to men carried on by curiosity. Wave. I was gonna lead me or us. Was unknown the film talks about how Gorbachev is beloved and considered a hero by many Germans, and obviously being a German, a west German at the time, you must have paid keen attention to the Soviet Union at that moment. Sure. And among other things when Germans reunification were somehow abandoned, give him up the real real big thing, about reunification, these it came without bloodshed. It came without violence. Gorbachev allowed peacefully his predecessors would send tanks in and, and suppress the liberation movements of countries like Hungary Poland is terminal. You just name, it chuckle Slovakia, take a Slovak, yo cyst that was attitude of the Soviet Ryan and Gorbachev completely different in his approach and is in west Germany had been separate countries. For essentially your entire life. It just must have seend being a forty odd year old man, having never known anything else impossible that this was never going to happen. Yes, I personally believed I would not see during my lifetime something of that magnitude would take much more time history would be slow, but I was surprised. And when the wall came down in Idi nine and reunification happens, as you say, in the film. So quickly crazily quickly. What was your feeling when I heard about the wall coming down? I was in the southern tip of South America, a mountain, and with five days delay through shortwave radio hurt that the won't had come down, and it's this kind of joy in the shadow of elation, his never left me, I was pleased, given the seriousness of the subject by the touches of humor in this film, like. When they're cutting down ceremonially cutting down the barbed wire between Austria, Hungary, and spend a long time showing this bit of the Austrian nightly news that night I'm going to play that clip. Busy plea for the entire world. I n curtain started to be lifted. However, Austrian evening news was curious about the magnitude of the event retail two minutes. I didn't really metric their lead story was about slugs. It's very funny because they advise you to fill up old with beer in slugs, as lovers of beer would crawl it get drunk and you could harvest them in the morning, then on the miscellaneous much later. So the anchorwoman comes to mention that I am curtain. Being lifted. So it points to that sometimes news completely clueless. In other news, the Cold War is over. Yes. Yes. Do you feel as though humor is, is central to your sensibility, as a filmmaker as a creator, I think this human almost all of my films, and I've been labelled as grim teutonic sort of God knows warrior who, who is determined to risk his life in all all this, all this kind of nonsense. So what you spot it is. There's a lot of human gover of, of course, a lot of human other films. I wanna talk more about your narration, and how you do it. Do you begin with some rough draft? Or do you make the film? I know I the Nori I write the take spontaneously during editing and I know here heft to explain something and I write it down. On incessantly and in the editing room. I have very professional microphone, and I speak the commentaries. Right, then and there while I'm proceeding and sometimes I notice the texts overlaps into the next scene. It's three seconds too long. So I would delete one or two words and rephrase it a little bit in speak again and it would fit. That's amazing. So literally, as you are cutting scenes together, you're coming up with the necessary narration, and recording simultaneous. Yes. Exactly. Is that what I do that extrordinary? Well, I realize it audiences like the way I narrate in not, it's not only my voice. It is a text the context that I create the observation said, I make. So I'm writing the commentaries, and I'm speaking them and ended makes a lot of sense and gives a coherence to films that they would otherwise not. What have? And in his someone there, directing you. You know, saying, hey Werner, let's let's do another take that. No with exception of the editor. He is the only one who would tell me the phrase, doesn't sound right? The grammar is a little bit crooked. Why don't you change? So earth of words, his says to me pronounciation of the word should be different in, in English. So I, I do have helped India seek advice. That's amazing. And also, I'm I'm struck by how demystifying you are of the process. There is nothing. Mysterious about filmmaking. It's just professional work period. Here is a great example of that work from your film, grizzly, man. One of my favorites. This is some of the last football shot by the subject, Timothy Treadwell, a grizzly bear enthusiast. It's a close up of one of his bears, and what haunts me is that in. All the faces of all the bears that trade will ever filmed, I discover no kinship now understanding no mercy. I see only the overwhelming indifference of nature. To me, there's no such thing as a secret world of the bears. And displaying stare speaks only of a half board interest in food, but for Timothy Treadwell despair was a friend, a savior. In a way in that makes film, different and unique I Esa filmmaker heaven ongoing argument with treadmill. Sometimes trade will say something very new agey into how fluffy these Baz I in to hug them, and you have to sing to them and, and here on of sudden night. Chime in say here. I differ with Treadwell in my opinion, wild nature is different. It's chaotic and in dangerous and murderous, not fluffy, like involved, his knee movies. So I just have an argument with him. You didn't always narrate your films, in fact, in your early films. There are other people doing their rations. I believe it was, the, the great ecstasy of would cover Steiner in the seventies that was your first first one. Here's a bit of that finished Pessoa Costa sheaf league in his. Emas. He even so what, what made you decide to start doing that? Forty five years ago. I didn't. Yes, I didn't decide it, it was the signature of TV series all the other films have filmmaker appear in the film and giving the chronically, so right? Not only my voice, head to be in a head to be physically onscreen, as well. I hated the beginning. And, and then I thought when the film was finished I should do at least voice myself I felt uncomfortable but I hit the feeling afterwards, that was something good about it. Steiner's Esther training spoon. Sponsored Fatu got. Wow, your voice was so much higher. You know how Americans feel now about Werner Herzog narrations do Germans here. You're germination think nothing special about that. No. Since I speak own mother tongue. It doesn't really stick out like a sore thumb and insurance, of course. Yes. You'll sense that my first language was Bavarian dialect. It's like let's say Texan, drawl, ereck ignites must come from Texas while he must come from Bavaria, right? The earliest one documentary of yours that I can find that you narrated in English was herdsmen of the sun, which is about a nomadic tribe in the Sahara. This is a clip in the Republic of new Shia. The voter behalf gathered for the annual celebration of care covari towards the end of the rainy season in the month of September tribal meetings are held all over the half desert. Now we hear that we go. Of course, Werner Herzog. That's what he does. But when you first started narrating thirty years ago, was there any pushback from US distributors country Lee say so that was very quick. Aknowledge -ment that audiences feel comfortable and they like the way I make things clear. He really understand what I'm saying. Although I speak with the Nexen with a heavy ex and not as heavy as, for example Kissinger, but that's true. That's true to audiences responded favorably. And that's always a good sign. Your voice is part of the attraction ES, India can tell that it's very easy to make satires and to imitate my voice, you see the internet is full of imposed us. Do you know there's a? Actor and writer Paul Tompkins who has done one. Do you know it, let me play a bit for you and see what you think this is him doing the character on Andy dailies podcast? Okay, if you don't mind I've just uploaded this review to yelp. This is the trader Joe's on hype urine.
