"So ad free shows is the way to go and like I said, it's very affordable for all of us wrestling fans. So folks have tried out. You won't regret it. It's a fun stuff. Video and audio and Conrad's got this great roster assembled. And so we're just hiring right along and enjoying it. And it's ever growing roster, by the way. And he's not done. You know, if those who say, you know, I see a lot of more Paul bromwell around. Well, there's a reason because Conrad is trying to grow this thing even bigger and better. Bring it on more and more talent. And it's just getting bigger, you know? Conrad started with the core folks. And he's going to continue to add on. So it's just an exciting thing. I have a feeling we're all going to be getting together soon again. Like we did last year, JR in Chicago. And you and the king got up on stage and had a good time with all of us. We're going to do that something like that again this year and it's going to be a blast and you don't want to miss out on those types of opportunities. I agree. So how hardly? So listen, we're going to get into this right now. We talk a lot about and some folks, especially about the lull after Russell mania. WrestleMania is such it is. It's the Super Bowl of wrestling. And we're all pumped up for it. We can't wait to check it out. And it's the peak. How hard do you think it is JR to follow up on that event? Or is that sometimes just an excuse? Oh, I don't know. You could use an excuse for anything, Paul. You're out about that. I don't think it's that hard. I mean, you just go out and do your work and this is an interesting card. Headlined by a tag match, which is interesting. And but you know, it's not hard, Paul. If you love what you do, then it's just another opportunity to do what you love. And that's kind of how I look at it. So it's another opportunity. And I love opportunities. Well, the role the night after mania is in Montreal, it draws 15,500 fans, which is a sellout and gets a 5.28 rating and draws 890,000 in Canada, which is way above the average of 543,000. This has got to be the Hogan effect, don't you think JR? Absolutely. Hogan, the Hogan rock match is the impetus for the momentum. I think, and Hogan having such a great performance with rock in their match that they had that rock one, and just that started the wheel rolling. And it continued past WrestleMania. And now this event here is, I think, kind of underrated at some point, but it star studded and we'll go over it because we've got a lot of things to talk about on the show. We do. This show opens with the most incredible reaction I've ever seen on television for a pro wrestler when Hogan comes out. And Jim, I got the clip. We're gonna check it out together. Let's take a look. Here we go. Okay. That'll be a great feeling for Hollywood Hogan right now. Look, look at the response from these people, JR. This is amazing. This looks incredible. It's like what they saw on the reincarnation. King, this is amazing. They won't stop. And this is overwhelming. I can only imagine what it must be like right now to be Hollywood hockey. I've never seen anything like this. He's got a thought title where he's been. Over brother. That's pretty amazing. Man's buying in some seats. Damn, I love you guys. JR, my goodness. Even Hulk Hogan, who's heard probably some of the loudest crowd reactions of anyone to be there in that moment. It just sounded like the crowd was getting louder and louder. Yeah, they were, they were as we'd like to use the term mostly invested, and that's one of the better examples of the fans being emotionally invested in the show hasn't even started. You're getting this reaction on an entrance. So it was pretty cool. I enjoyed that. That was the best Montreal many times, but I've never been the Montreal that kind of reaction. It was just very memorable. Something I won't forget. Awesome, and that was fun to relive. So rock comes out and they shake hands. It's being sold as the greatest match of all time. Hogan rips his NWO shirt off, which brings Nash and haul out, and that's the main event. And there's no question Hogan being out of the NWO so quickly had everything to do with the reaction. He was getting, don't you think? Oh, yeah. Yeah, I think so. Everything, all the parts are fitting perfectly. Thus far. Speaking of reactions, it's time to dig yourself out of that winter hibernation and get the reaction you want from the one that you want to be with..

"Hello and welcome to grilling JR. This is Paul bromwell and I'm joined by the voice of wrestling, mister Jim Ross, JR, how are ya? I'm great, Paul. How are you, buddy? I'm doing good, man. We're getting a lot of positive feedback on the show. We did on Vader. I'm glad to see that. And I gotta ask since the last time you and I spoke, did you get to check out WrestleMania at all? I did check out parks of it. So, but to tell you in our audience that I watched all day start to finish would be untruthful. It was during the basketball tournament, obviously, men and women, so I'm a big fan of both. So I was torn between both those major events and but I wasn't going to let the WrestleMania event pass by without checking out stone cold. He and I talked to going to that thing and we communicated on Saturday after the show he seemed to be real happy and really almost relieved that they pulled it off. He and Kevin Owens deserve a hell of a lot of credit for what they did. And to show you how kind of ballplayer Austin is, you had to be on the field with a 16 years, 19 years, something like that. Yeah. And he just looked like he missed a step. And they kept the match in their lane. I thought that was really smart how they strategized and laid out that Nash. It was just absolutely a masterpiece in my view. And Kevin, I went to service a lot of credit as well. You got to have a dance partner to make these things work and Steve had a great dancing partner. I saw Becky Lynch and Bianca Belair, I'm a big, big Becky Lynch fan. Help get her job there back in the day and I think the world of her and she's just such a sweetheart. She's another person that reached out to me when my wife got killed. And you surprising you guys out of the woodwork. And then returns to see, hey, how you doing? You doing okay? He didn't better, whatever. She's a sweetheart of a lady. And she's this over is anybody in the company? Excluding Roman range probably. But, you know, she's just amazing. So I did watch her WrestleMania bits and pieces. All of Austin's were, I wasn't aware, and I've talked to him earlier today that he was going to come to be there on Sunday Night. I didn't even ask him. He didn't bring it up. So it's a total surprise for me. And I know that for dirt dirt listeners and dirt warners, dirt eaters, they couldn't understand what you didn't ask when he was going to do. No. Why would I need to know that? If I want to go see a John Wayne movie, I need to know how many people he kills. How many bullets he took or whatever? Just let me watch it, okay? Let me form my own opinions. And that's kind of what it did. So I thought the production values of that WrestleMania event was nothing short of epic. You know, the camera shots, the audio, the look of the building. First class. This is amazing. Yeah. So I did check it out and but I selectively checked it out because I was always switching back to basketball. It was a lot of fun to watch Stone Cold's reaction, just him cracking up when Vince just could not get the time and down for that stunner. It was like the old days all over again. Yeah, I've done that. I look just like that. I was one of the first people to Steve stunned. And. Unless you've done it, or practiced it, and I didn't do either. It's awkward. It doesn't look awkward. There's somebody that really knows what they're doing, like The Rock. You know, I thought Byron saxton did a hell of a job. You know, he came in and laid inning a release and I thought he did a nice job. So that was a good moment for him. I thought, and then of course, pat McAfee had a great WrestleMania. And he's one of those guys that has unique abilities to identify with the audience. He has done that. His accomplishments in the match he was in, I thought, far exceeded my expectations. So I congratulated him that night and online on Twitter. So anyway, he had a good night too. So there are some really cool performances and you look at this whole event in total, you know, it looks as if Austin's done. I'd say he's done. Undertaker seemingly has done. Triple H has done. So there are three of my key guys in the attitude era that no longer will be stepping into the open proverbial squared circle and lacing them up. So it was a great moment of congratulate WWE for their success. And I believe that this is true, the better they do, the better AEW does. It really is. So how do you figure that? Well, there's plenty of money in revenue to go around, number one. I just remember back in my own personal experiences from the WWF got hot. And started the WrestleMania run. And they got all the publicity and the Saturday nights main event stuff, everything. Our business in mid south, at that time, there were spots where it helped it. It created more awareness of the genre of pro wrestling. Now, you could pick your pick. I don't want to have pie shop what kind of pie you're going to get. I don't know for sure. I don't want to get some pie because I hear it's really good. So that's kind of the deal there. So I enjoyed the whole presentation. I wish I had not been so head up against the NCAA men's and women's basketball championship. That was the nut cutting time. But nonetheless, it was a real cool experience. I'm glad I watched both the quite frankly. The other highlight for me as a fan JR was watching undertaker go into the Hall of Fame and here in his speech. I don't know if you called any of that, but my goodness. I did not, but he and I communicated that weekend and he thanked me and I thanked him and he appreciates that I always appreciate your wisdom and I thought that was a hell of a compliment. He could go on to do public speaking speeches and motivational speeches the way he laid out his acceptance speech. It was phenomenal. So if you do get a chance, I would tell you, you got to check it out. He was just so impressive. He gave you Mark callous. Mark Callaway, should I say the man versus the undertaker? It was something to behold, so great weekend all around. And like you said, it's good for wrestling. That weekend also we saw FTR in action. There were ROH card happened. That was a lot of fun. Samoa Joe, he's back. I thought I thought the FTR elevated themselves to the arguably the best tag team in the world. Their match we had recently with a Young Bucks was nothing but stimulating and I thought terrific. The match they had with the Briscoe I'd like to see that match returned without to call it. I like the Briscoe scheme. They're really good. Yeah. I mean, just phenomenal wrestling right now. Like you said, there is a buffet of options and choices and so much is going on right now in the wrestling business. We're going to get into some more of it as we go through. But this week's show is all about asking JR questions from our listeners. Man, I couldn't wait as I go went through some of these questions to do this with you. So with all that out of the way, let's jump in JR and we're going to start with a football question ad free.

"Hello and welcome to grilling JR. This is Paul bromwell and I'm joined by the voice of wrestling, mister Jim Ross, JR. How are you this week? I'm good, Paul, good to see you again. Looking forward to the show. Should be good. One of my favorite guys. We're going to talk about today. New Hall of Famer and all that good stuff. So it should be a fun show. Yeah, I'm looking forward to it JR, you're right. The Mastodon the man they call Vader just went into the WWE Hall of Fame and man we're excited. I'm excited. I'm excited to talk about Vader with you. Because you are a part of his career in many ways from WCW, WWF, and actually we're going to play a clip towards the end of the show where he confronts you in the ring a little bit and then shamrock saves you some. I'm looking forward to rolling through this. You ready to get started? Ready to go. All right, let's do it. So Leon white, born May 14th, 1955, he was a big bastard who could be a monster and stun rustling fans with his ability to get Ariel, a former offensive lineman for the university of Colorado, giraffe did by the LA rams, but sadly JR, he never got to play it down due to a knee injury, but he still got that NFC conference championship ring for the time he was with them in 1979. JR talk about it a little bit. When's the first time you remember hearing about Leon? Was it as a college football player, NFL, wrestler? It was as a football player. He played at the university of Colorado. At that time, we're in the big 8 conference, which Oklahoma was also a member of. So those Colorado guys got a lot of publicity in that part of the world where I lived at that time. So I got him on the map, I heard about him as a wrestler when he was being trained by bad rankins. So if a football came first, yeah, no, absolutely. He was trading by Brad and his reputation as a trainer, it's hard to match, isn't it? Yeah, he's tough guy. Brad's a great wrestler and a real good coach. But he pushed her, but he came after, you know, Brad was a guy. And Verne had also had a reputation of training guys real hard, real physical. You know, the philosopher's back in those days is just super can run this guy off. And the thought process behind that is, well, if he's not going to get the practice, he's not going to make it to the game. So, but Brad had strong coaching principles and a philosophy. So Leon couldn't have gone to a better guy for Leon. Well, not only does he learn the business in the AWA, but also Germany, JR, he works a lot for Otto wands, ends up winning the catch wrestling association title, ending autos 9 year reign very early in his career. Someone that big, he took to the business so easily and so quickly. I guess it's no surprise just how fast that he gets a major title win early in his career, right? Athletic big man dropped money, cowboy Bill watts is always said. So Leon was not just a Leon was not really a never a clydesdale. Leon was a thoroughbred. He just was a very large thoroughbred. And because his feet were so light, he could move around. He was, he was destined for stardom. The only thing that's going to prevent Leon from a big time player for the get go was injuries. Which everybody has to deal with. But Leon was a, he's almost almost can't miss projects. He had everything. Quickness, you know, first of all, Leon du a moonsault, almost messed my pants. It was well, it was amazing. Yeah. And you know, you see him climbing to the top rope and all that good stuff. Then you start thinking, uh oh, how's he going to land? He's going to land on the other guy, and he's got to be able to protect the other guy, or he's going to do that whole one time, and it will never be seen again. So Leon was extremely extremely good athlete and bottom line. A real good athlete. And he threw that time and time again. Gifted JR, no doubt about it. Some a man his size, like you said, moonsault and protect the guys landing on all at the same time. Yeah. Just incredible monster. So listen, the story, according to Dave Meltzer, when we're doing our research this week, and I thought this was, I love this nugget that he goes that new Japan pro wrestling had the idea of big van Vader for a while. The character, big van Vader, and they were gonna bring in Jim hellwig for the role, but he signed with the WWF first and obviously that didn't work out too bad for him. He became The Ultimate Warrior. So then they brought in Leon white, the roles the BBI monster foreigner who would do short matches and blow through everyone, but looking back JR could have anyone done the gimmick like Leon? Not really, not in my opinion. He was perfect for that role. Attitude, everything fit. So there may have been somebody else could have come in and done done a good job, but it seems like that role of Vader was made for Lee on white. Absolutely agree. Now that we've seen what we've seen and wrestling history has happened, I can't imagine anyone else being big van Vader bump Vader, but Leon and it's pretty cool though when you hear these stories, how things all played out and what could have been, but as big gigantic wrestling debut is such a tremendous piece of business in Japan. It's still talked about decades later. You go back to December 27th, 1987 at sumo hall and Antonio inoki beats riki choshu by disqualification and after the match Vader takeshi kitano, who is the Johnny Carson of Japan at the time..

"Hello and welcome to grilling JR. This is Paul bromwell and I'm joined by the voice of wrestling, mister Jim Ross, Jim, how are you today? I'm good, Paul. Good to see you again. Our friend Conrad's on vacation as we speak. And I hear he's buying a beach or something. I don't know what he's doing. But he's living it up and with family, which is the main thing. So we hope Conrad has a nice vacation and enjoys his family. We all need to spend more time. As a matter of fact, I'm going to do that in the next few days. I want to be basing out Oklahoma for a couple of weeks because we're in San Antonio coming up now. Wednesday night. So we're in Texas. It's my point, and so I want to be able to commute to Oklahoma. And I have been in my home in Oklahoma since October. So yeah, looking forward to that seeing my kids, grandkids, all that good stuff. My Friends. And catch up on the OU football scene and all that good stuff. Going to my little favorite restaurants. And enjoying that place a little bit. It brings about great memories, because you know Jan and I live there forever. And so because of the COVID, I didn't fly much. And we did all those shows the daily slice. So I thought, well, what the hell, I'll just buy a place there. That's what I've done. And so I was thinking, you know, maybe I need to go to Oklahoma and make sure my homestead is still standing and all my shit's still in the house. I got people there to do that. I'm bullshitting. But I hadn't been there since October. And I went to a football game in October out there, came when I came back, the COVID thing became more of an issue. You know, I was in an age group where you got to be extra careful, so I didn't make you Trish back and then maybe two weeks after that, I got diagnosed with skin cancer. And then when they started to put together a game plan and how they were going to take care of this matter, it required me to get radiation treatments daily. Well, I'll say daily. Monday through Friday. It seemed like daily. This became a part of my day. So that was the whole month of December. And I came back to work on that raw raw. So there, I came back to work because we're talking about some things on raw to show today that I have studied my script, I'm actually a good memories. So anyway, I know where I was, but bottom line is I'm just ready to go out there and see about things. I got a business adventure. You know, we're going to, I'm starting in cannabis farm, called black hat farms, any kind of check on that investment, significant well, I'm happy to help my kids, all I'm alive and can. So everything else is good. I got to admit when I first heard about paint your life dot com, I thought that was a great idea for a gift, but man, that must be expensive..

"Hello and welcome to grilling JR. This is Paul bromwell and I'm joined by the voice of wrestling mister Jim Ross JR. How are you this week? I'm good, Paul. I feel good. And as a token last week, I had my last cancer doctor's appointment until 6 months. So the cancer is gone. And my leg is still healing. It's not healed, but it's healing. And it's still a little tender, but you know, I just got I'm used to it now, so I managed it up when I need to and just make sure I'm not bumping against things on those damn on that new skin and they're still scabs down there. I don't want to be too coarse. But when those are gone, all the new skin would be in place. And we'll just keep on moving. So that's how that works. You know, I told my doctor, I have my doctor in Oklahoma in a really rough fiscal shape. Breathing. He's got a breathing thing and what a nice guy. He's taking a real good care of me over the years. And he's in the hospital now because he needs extra help in breathing. When he was to treat me, he treated me with a portable oxygen thing. And what a soil guy because I've called him and said, you know, I'm going to be in town two days. Can you take care of this? Can you help me here? Can you give me a prescription for such a search? And he just always was concerned and took care of me and make sure I didn't make any stupid mistakes. So I sent him a text because he needs to be cheered up and he needs to know that people give a shit. As we all should think about occasionally in our lives, but I said, you know, not one time during this whole cancer thing, did I ever wake up thinking this is not going to work? I'm in deep water. I'm in deep ass trouble and it doesn't look good. Not one time. And if the thought started to creep into my mind, I got rid of the damn thing. And so I told him, I said, you know, you got a lot of people pulling for you a year. Your skill, your help, you felt so many people, but you got to kick your attitude positive. You got to believe every day I want to get better. And so that's going to happen my philosophy has been that I believe every day I'm going to get better and I'm going to be sure that I'm doing the right things to stay healthy. So as he drinks high dollar crown royal from Conrad, Conrad got me two bottles of this 18 year old. He was 18. 15 or 18 year old crown royal, which is great as my granddaddy would say sipping whisky. I want a guzzle it, but it's good sipping whisky. And I feel myself by saying I'm using it for medicinal purposes. Gotta keep those ready, you know what I'm saying? So anyway, I wanted to get that in because I think he knows somebody that's suffering from anything. Reach out. You know, God almaty, you're only freaking phone endlessly anyway. You know, it's probably within arm's reach right now if you don't already have it in your hand. To see what's going on on Twitter. So you take that time and send out a text to somebody. And if you don't feel like speaking, for whatever reason, or you're still self conscious about it, at least, send a text. Or email, or whatever the hell everybody does nowadays. And let them know you're thinking about them. And you'll be amazed all the I got messages I still do. People checking on me. And I can't tell you how much it means. It's very positive. It's very uplifting. And a lot of getting healthy is mental. Quite frankly. So, you know, I just got to I just wanted to share that because I know it's the same thing to do with wrestling. Or Steve Austin, 1997. But I think it's important for us to at least think about things like that so that if we get to that point where we can make that decision, like I should our Texas guy or lady or whatever, the answer is yes. They've got to be the Gettysburg address. Three or four sentences of encouragement is a winner. So something to think about as we move forward here today, but everything else is good. We've been so busy in AEW with our pay per view, which is amazing. And all the other things. The good news is that we've stayed in Florida for a while. That's where I am right now. So I have built an airplane in a few days. So I'm not bitching about that either. Not to go through and sit next to a crying baby, and I'm a baby, so I don't even messages. You know, I don't. I got two daughters or two granddaughters. I got no issue. But if you don't have to get on a.

"Hello and welcome to grilling JR. This is Paul bromwell and I'm joined by the voice of wrestling mister Jim Ross. JR, how are you this week? I'm good. Conrad's still not cabin. And he's doing a rewrite of the deliverance theme. That's it, that's it. So no Conrad's away. We may need to send search and rescue. He's all right. He can't hide him. So there you go. Great. That's all good though. Everything's so good. Good, man. Feeling good. A lot of things on making some plans to go to England and April. Well, tell us about that. A little two day deal. I don't have all the details. I know, whooped. I have more information on it. It's an April in, I think Liverpool. It's an all star cast. I know that I've never when I looked at the lineup of all the folks from wrestling that are going to be that are booked. It's pretty amazing, actually. I mean, they got like Trish and lita. Steiners. Dudley's among many, many others. So I'm excited about that opportunity. It's a little two day deal. Friday Saturday Sunday. So I won't miss any AEW TV or nothing. So it should be fun. I haven't done anything like this since before COVID. So it's been a long time. I enjoy them. I enjoy meeting the fans. So we'll have more distinct information on it. Surely about next week. I didn't know it's in April. I do know I'm pretty sure it's in Liverpool. Every time I went to Liverpool or WWE back in the day, Lawler had to go to The Beatles museum. Before I been there a hundred times, since The Beatles sanding, never got enough. So it's good. So it'll be a fun little trip. All good. And, you know, this is an interesting week for AEW. We had being in Stanford for our rooms were. It was kind of odd. And here where I used to live was interesting. So it's all good though. You know, our business said, AEW Venice is good. TV shows have been solid. At least that's my biased opinion. And so thanks for looking all right, man. I'm happy. Feeling better every day. That's good to hear. I know you're still traveling around on airplanes, the ankle. It's not as sensitive as far as travel and things like that. It still sensitive, but not as sensitive. It's healing better. And you know, just takes time, patience, which I'm not versed at to endowed with patients. I wanted to get well now, but it's been a long trip. Long journey on this damn thing. So we're just doing better. I'm looking right at it. All right. Good. It's coming along. So in any event, we have a show to do today. We do. We have a show to do today, and I'm really looking forward to it. It's super brawl two JR 30 years ago. It happened on a leap year. So this show took place February 29th, 1992. We're going to jump into that. But real quick, I do want to put a quick plug because you and I talked about this to and last week's show, you were just on ad free shows last Thursday for a zoom. How did that all turn out? Okay, you know, I'll never know how many people are in it or not. It doesn't really matter. Questions are good by and large. So I enjoy doing it. We try to do one about once a month it seems like. So yeah, it's good. I enjoy it. Any interaction I can create or get involved in with the fan base is good for me..

"Welcome to grilling JR. This is Paul bromwell and I'm joined by the voice of wrestling mister Jim Ross. Jim, how are you doing this week? I'm good, thanks, Paul. Just trying to figure out this new system, you've always thought and they tell me that our crack stats and we're ready to roll. So, buddy, we've been clueless. This has been comedy gold. We've been playing a little game called click this drag that fuck you for the last half hour before we got here. I've been thinking that. I know you have. It's been written all over your face, but we made it, and by the way, we're broadcasting from the Bluetooth studios. Try Bluetooth free when you use our promo code, JR at checkout, just pay $5 shipping, JR, you're a believer in the product, aren't you? It works. That's what you need to hear. It works. So he is a paying believer. He believes in it. It's good stuff, so there you go. Well, JR, listen, we're going to jump right into it today because we're doing a watch along and I'm excited. This is from 25 years ago. We're going back to the first ever two hour Monday Night Raw. It's from February 3rd, 1997. It was in the Toronto sky dome. It was actually recorded on January 31st with an attendance of 25,268, so what I'd like you guys to do if you're gonna watch along with us, this is the part where you want to fire up that peacock machine. So launch the launch the cock as Connie sometimes says. Go to Monday night he is something. And we're going to go to season 5 of Monday Night Raw, episode 5, and we're going to count it down, jam. "Hello and welcome to grilling JR, this is Paul bromwell and I'm joined by the voice of wrestling mister Jim Ross. JR, how are you today? Pretty good. Better than I look. Obviously, with a black eye on my left side, I was leaving for a Charlotte Saturday to fly to do that battle of the belts. And for some reason, I just, all of a sudden, lost my balance. And when I lost my balance, and I started stumbling and falling, I tried to catch myself and my face. Vice versa to the concrete wall. So I got here. Here's some place. And this black eye. JR was out at the airport or shared in front of my front door. I was going to the airport. And I made my booking and I worked and I came home and been suffering ever since. My goodness. So anyway, that's what happened there. It was just an accident. It wasn't an exit. I didn't shift and fall. I just lost dumb balance. All of a sudden I was Mike Liberian was all straight up and I don't know what happened. So I haven't had a chance to go to the doctor to check it out. So that's where I am on that deal. I've been a lot of doctors offices in the last several weeks, so we'll see how it works out. Well, buddy, you've been busy, but I want to make sure we bring this up. You turned 70 years old since the last time I saw you a happy belated birthday for me to you, man. Appreciate it, Paul, thank you. Yeah. Yeah, that's an interesting number, huh? Hey, it's a big one. And man, you are doing your thing again on dynamite, battle of the belts as we record this just coming off of that show. It's so good to hear you back on TV where you belong my friend. Thank you. I'm having fun, you know? And I wish get past this cancer treatment treatments and have given my skin a chance to heal well deserved and timely because if you're getting boring, they hurt all the time. And I am hurting all the time because my radiation is just burnt my skin to Chris. In that area down by my ankle, so it's not been anything, man. And then this thing Saturday when I just all of a sudden boom, a little concerning, but in any event, it is what it is, as they say. And I will be fine, as always. At least, that's my story. I'm sticking to it. So interesting weekend have had fun time to Charlotte. Got to see a lot of friends all that. David Crockett was there. He wants to show you know he was there to present the interim D and T title to any. A lot of similarities. And he and does not have a great match. Great match. Yeah, good match. Dustin is just an exceptional worker. They had a good match. So it was a fun show. It's an hour show and it was fun to do. So it's. Just going to be I just got to be patient with all my little injuries and my ailments. Then we're going to go to Raleigh as this week as we're recording this. This Wednesday will be Raleigh. So anyway, we'll just we'll make it, you know, it's just my theory. You know how that goes? You got to go to roll them up, go to work. So anyway, I'm feeling pretty good. And we will make the show fun and it was a hell of a show. It was 1997. Let's see what's in the long ago. That's a good time ago. It is JR, and you know what? You mentioned Dustin. And my goodness, we're going to talk about him wrestling here on Royal Rumble 1997. So that tells you what kind of longevity he's had in his career. And put on a hell of a match, as you said, battled the belts. But we're going to talk about him and so many other stars from Bret Hart to stone cold, undertaker, so many involved in this Royal Rumble. I've been looking forward to recording this one with you, man. So if you're ready to do it, you ready to jump in, we can do it. Let's go. Yes, sir. All right, let's take a look at it Jim today. We are talking about Royal Rumble 1997. It's one of the biggest shows in WWF history and we're coming off an in your house which was titled it's time. That one featured Sid defeating Bret Hart to retain the WWF world title. You had the undertaker who defeated the executioner in a last man standing match, and the show ends with a brawl between Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels. And the plans are in motion to put Brett and Sean back together again at WrestleMania at this point, right? At least it feels that way. Yeah, that was obviously the story. Unfinished business to try to get those two guys to blow off their angle. So, sound like a never ending story. It's not like we were just gifts cycling. So that's going to be the endgame is Brett Shawn back together. Yeah. They had the WrestleMania before they had just done that amazing Iron Man match. We're Sean wins the title. But here we are beginning in 97. We're into the storyline here, raw is going to open with Vader and Steve Austin, which you and Conrad, by the way, covered in your recent Steve Austin 95, 96 episodes. So be sure to check that one out if you guys haven't listened to that one. But Brett's going to interfere. He's going to hit Austin and this seems to feel like Brett is moving towards a heel roll. Did you get that feeling as well here that, hey, it's time to make Brett the heel in this rivalry. It seemed to be timely. He had no issues with it. He felt it would be the right thing to do as well. You know, top talent, it's always been a tradition and wrestling I think that top talents that are smart certainly was and is. We're always involved in their creative. So I always enjoyed it to Brett was always such a smart Booker, creator, whatever you want to say. So it was, it seemed like these stories were starting to come together and some tweaks are being made on some of.

"Hello and welcome to grilling JR. This is Paul bromwell, and I'm joined by the voice of wrestling mister Jim Ross. Jim, how you doing this week? Oh, good, man. Good. I'm all jacked up on diet snapple. Jim look. Me and you both, buddy. I'm a big Diaspora guy man. Yeah, me too. I got one, too, man. That's funny. I have almost burned out on the diet peach, but I'm still like it. This is the half and half. Okay. The Arnold Palmer. In other words, it all Arnold Palmer they can't say. Very nice. I got a little raspberry tea, so I got the variety pack. There you go. It's fossil art, they say. Yep. So everything's good. I think my cancer treatments are still ongoing. Say, Friday, this Friday I will take my 15th radiation treatment. So every morning I go to about a 30 minute drive and it's longer to get there than it is for the treatment. Which is not a bad thing. But the problem is that the more radiation your skin endures, the more inflamed it gets, the more tender it gets, it's very delicate to the touch. So you've got to be aware of what you wear. It's crazy as hell. I thought, well, this will get better, pain wise. The pain will be more manageable as I go into the process. But that's not the case. So if you start thinking about it, it's logical. They're burning your skin. Around the cancer. And it's in my ankle. There's not a lot of muscle, or fatty. It's just on the ankle area. So it's just skin. And so anyway, that's been a best bit of a problematic. You know, keep me from sleeping all night. Things like that. So I was glad to get it over with. And then once they start the radiation, they'll stop. They'll stop aggravating the skin. And all that good stuff. So that's kind of where I am on it. You know, I'm optimistic. I believe that I'm going to be just fine. I'm on target to return to work, hopefully, knocking on wood as I just am. On the dynamite of this coming back to daily's place in Jacksonville, I think it's on the 29th Wednesday night there. That's what I'm hoping to do. It seemed like it worked out pretty meant to be because I don't have to fly anywhere. I can just drive over there and do my gig, you know? And call the matches. And I really miss that. Call it matches. It's always been the most fun part of my career is broadcasting. And then along the way, I got involved in other things, but nonetheless, that's the fun part, as they say. So that's where I am. I'm not in the fun part of this radiation treatment, but I got to go through it. I got to do it. So I don't look at it in any way other than I have an option. I have two options. I have an option to be a man and get it done, endure, or I can't stand it, and I'm going to vote for treatment. Take my chances. So I don't plan on doing that. So my dad told me a long time ago that quitting is the easiest thing in the world to get good at. And I believe that. So I'm equating. So we'll be fine. So it was all good though. Various of the bar at the website's good. Pretty sure everybody that's checking it out and giving us a little business here there and yawn. We have great stocking stuffers. We believe, and so it's all good. Business has been good at JR's BBQ dot com and you know, we're working around the clock out there. I get books shipped from arle warehouse in Norman to Jacksonville beach and I'll get 6 8 cases of books and I sign an inside my Stephen link runs it always has a little stick them in there. This is the hall or whatever. And what they wanted to say, so I'm still doing that. I enjoy that. It takes my mind off the best stuff. You know, when I get a report, hey, we had a good sales day. Great. Good for us. At home team when we went on, so it's good. So anyway, that's kind of where we are. I'm just trying to spend more time on the website as Vis-à-vis worrying about my doing more research on skin cancer. I got buddies are so anal. They'd be reading about this shit forever. They're going to take a test to become a doctor. And I just do the opposite. I step away from it, man. I have experts that are monitoring me daily. Monday through Friday. I figure they know more about that than I do. Now, if they want to start talking to wrestling or something, I think I could probably keep up with them. But honestly, they're doing it for my best interest. And they know how badly I want to heal. So anyway, that's my life in a nutshell. Go get treatment, run my little, you know,.

"The WSB radio shows. Bingo. That's a real cool thing that Conrad was cold. My friend Dennis Brant there in Dallas. And it's really a fun, you're the feedback from that. People go back in time. Those shows are all live live. Don't worry. There's no scripts, and I had some of the biggest stars in wrestling as my guests on the Sunday nights on a.m. 7 50 WSB. Check it out. We have lots going on over there, Jan, and I get together, do bonus shows, watch along old matches, we mentioned mid south. We're going to do more of that together. And it's just the place to be. It's a great community, JR jumps on does some zooms, answers. I don't want to wait for a matter of fact. That's right. I saw you on the calendar the 19th, right? Yeah. Friday the 19th, you're going to be on doing a Q&A with 8 o'clock. I think we're doing at 8 o'clock 8 eastern 80s. It's how I understand it from who got a hold of me. Was it Lauren, maybe? Lauren. Yeah. Lauren yaffe. Yeah, she's going to be. Lauren only has one suit of clothes. They're all they're all gimmick heavy. They're all yeah. I got knocking that, by the way. Speaking of knocking, yeah, there's some knocking going on there. I know that she has she's hot for Eric and Tony. Loves love surfs American Bischoff, and she's hot for Tony. She likes guys that are 55 and over. I'm not a nut group. I don't think she likes 55 or over. She's our eyes on other dudes. She's a happy married woman. Yeah, but I saw that work. You know what? I don't know JR, but I know they all there's a long line. It's like the devil counter over there. So just pull your number. Anyway, we're having fun now. I'm gonna get in trouble. But it's all good. She'll host it with JR, and it's a blast. Listen, that's the community over there. We have a great time. We're all Friends, and it's a great community to be a part of. Indeed it is, and we appreciate everybody's business. Their support. And of course, Conrad, we've back next week and you better be right. I've had enough of this guy this week. You did a great job, as always, you're prepared and you listen. That's one of the great marks of a good broadcaster. So you have a ability to listen. And then translate what you hear into a story that has continuity. Well, thank you. So you did a good job. And I appreciate your effort. And so Conrad call me late in the day and said, you know, I got a double book myself. And I said, well, how about Paul? Get him in there. Bring him out of the pan. I love it. I appreciate you being so cool with that because listen, Conrad's the man. And I'm just here to help him. It's always been my mantra, but I love working with you JR. And I appreciate you doing this today. But man, that's going to wrap us up for this week. Check out JR. Go to JR's BBQ dot com. Get you some salsas. Get you some seasonings. We love and support you here at the show. He's Jim Ross, the voice of wrestling, I'm Paul bromwell. We'll see again next week right here on grilling JR. Eric Bischoff's NWO beat Monday Night Raw at 83 consecutive times. Eric Bischoff and Conrad Thompson tell all about it on 83 weeks. EW is at the point now where people want them to succeed. WWE is still delivering twice the audience. I just would hope that Tony embraces the role of being an underdog. He's doing a lot of things right. But when he comes out, it says he's stupid things. He's coming off like a dirt sheet writer. 83 weeks, listen, wherever you get your podcasts..

"Mister Jim Ross, God damn it. It's play fighting. Hello and welcome to grilling JR. This is Paul bromwell and I'm joined by the voice of wrestling. Mister Jim Ross, JR, how are you this week? I'm good. I'm good, Paul. Thanks for sitting in for the big boy. He's taking care of business, you know? He's ubiquitous. He's everywhere, and he's quite the entrepreneur. So Conrad, whatever you're doing, open successful and I'll rejoin each other soon. He's a busy big boy. You can say that again, my friend. Come on. You're busy as well, Jim all over the place between dynamite, full gear, lots going on in the AEW world. Lots going on in wrestling. Yeah, yeah, for good. Good news for some folks and not so good for others. You're referring I give assuming to the WWE layoffs. I am. I have to ask you, I wanted to talk to you about this before we get into this week is Chris Jericho 2001. But I wanted to talk to you specifically about some of this that's been going on, especially the last year. You sat in the chair, talent relations have had lots of difficult decisions over the years, but we have never seen anything like we have in wrestling in terms of releases like we have over the last 12 to 16 months. Well, you know, you've become a public company. It changes the ground rules. Throughout that, that whatever is the said company. And, you know, even though they had a huge profit, which is congratulations to them, but it was bad timing, I thought to come off the heels of a big announcement that announced great profitability in the third quarter, and now on the heels of minutes after you're finding out a lot of Dallas all of them are good soldiers. Their name came up, and you know what the criteria is? Is it creative? Is it issues that we're not aware of? Is it simply budgetary? Some people overstay their welcome. You know, I don't have a clue. I know that for all of them that got let go, they should not perceive this as the end of the world. Because it sure as hell isn't. There's just no way that you could frame that and say, well, you know, that's why we're going to do now honey. Christmas is here. We don't have any if you run your budget that close. Or you've got no, you know, a little stash of cash. Yeah. And after being after working full-time, you're not spending it on a lot of travel and P and a, T and E or TNA. Any other value in there, but you're able to save somebody and you're not working 5 days a week. So you should be able to save some money on your trance that wasn't picked up by the company. And I just don't believe that any of those talents should be thinking that I guess my run in wrestling is over. It's only going to be over if that is your choice. If your choice is that, well, you know, I don't know. Then you maybe you may have your own answers. Maybe it's not that important anymore, and you're willing to go do something else and explore other opportunities. I don't know that. But I know that one of the questions I used to ask tell us all the time is what is your plan B? And if they had no plan B and they gave me the old line about I love wrestling and this is all I've ever wanted to do and I'm living my dream. If I get to get a contract with you JR, blah, blah, blah. I used to question them on that. Because here's what happens. You get it to the process to this person that has one gold, and that is to be on WWE television. And if things don't work out, sometimes people take make stupid mistakes to try to rectify it or they become less of a team player. They're disappointed in the system. They're disappointed in what has happened. So the bottom line is, it's just all those individuals. Some of them could take time to work on their bodies. Some of them could take time to heal. God forbid they may want to spend more time with their family. And there is this little thing called the holidays coming up in December. So I feel badly for them. I sound like I might not, but I've been in this position. And I always never went into the next day saying what are we going to do? I always prepared for those rainy days. I'm a businessman. So and I think that's how they need to for my feedback. That's what I would look at. Take this time to better yourself. You know, get bigger stronger faster, rest, clear your head, be with your family. Common sense things. But I can tell you this, getting cut from the WWE or AEW or any other company, including companies called the National Football League. You get cut doesn't mean it's over. And I hope that they can bottom they listen and they know a lot dude. You know, I feel for you. But don't put yourself in a rabbit hole and say, I just go, I want to just get away from everything. I need time. Okay, if you need to, take time. But don't get up the next morning thinking, I just don't know what I'm going to do. This is horrible. Yes, it's horrible. But get over it. Get over it and move forward and prove yourself and try to regroup because there's a lot of folks doing wrestling right now. And if you're ready and willing and able and you're good, you're good locker room person and all that stuff. You know what the hell? That is shot. Something else is going to come around. So like I said, that's the main message I would give them. I don't know why all those people were cut. I like some better than others, just like anybody.

"This is Paul bromwell. Filling in for Conrad Thompson this week and I'm joined by the voice of wrestling, mister Jim Ross, JR, how are you this week? I'm good, man. I'm having a good week. It's been a good week so far and I did a little travel not bad. Good places. After we do this, I'm on my way to Oklahoma City. To go to the OU, Texas tech game, the Saturday. So kinda excited about that. Seeing my house at, you know, I lived in forever. I went back to office. So, you know, I was in my buddies around at the weather and I still sit outside the back got a patio in the backyard covered kitchen outdoor kitchen, big screen TV, big 50 inch and it's perfect for cigar smoking. I don't smoke cigars with my buddy's dude. And I do drink the beer. I got oh, you Coke machine out there, so I'm set. I'm ready to go. So I'm actually to get home and see everybody including my family and so thanks for giving my youngest daughter and her husband and I are at another guy a lawyer. Especially in the field, getting ready to start a cannabis farm. And we're looking at the working title of black hat farms. I've lost the land in Oklahoma recently and for the grow houses and all the things that are going to be their life. They're going to they're going to it's a big deal. She's got a great job in marketing. She's not going to quit that. I wouldn't even let her consider that. So I'm excited about that for my kids. You know, I figured out it was probably smarter to lead them things when I was alive. Sort through all the heartbreak and the minutia and the legal stuff, the probate courts and all these things, after I was gone, it's going to be hard enough when I'm after I'm gone, simply because I got so much memorabilia I need a clever creative way to have somebody that knows what the hell they're doing. Couldn't my home inventory my memorabilia? And then figure out the best way to pair it down. You know, and so I guess the cool stuff. But it's hard to give a quite frankly. But it's just so much. It's the whole room full of stuff. I always just stacked everywhere. It looks like a hoarder. And my wife kind of was a hoarder. So she collected memorabilia for years. Every year, I get something from my birthday or Christmas or John Wayne Adam or Mickey Mantle item. So I've got John winning stuff, signed, worn, you know, to cigarette lighter. All kinds of cool shit. So I have fun going back out there. There's a lot of good memories. So we'll have fun tonight here on this with this. I like these q-and-as. Got a fun, you know? It doesn't matter what the folks put in their questions. Yeah. You're gonna ask why is ask question? How is there to get them built? I don't know about. What is your extensive booking ackermann say should be? So you're not going to try to if it's just not a soap box deal. Just normal conversation, I love these. But I said, we'll try to make it deny. JR, listen, if you get wise asked questions, we want red ass answers. Can you promise me that? Work on it. Okay, that's what I want. That's what we want. Listen, you said black hat farms. That was the name of it where you serve in chocolate cake. Is that the slogan? Is that what we're going to do? There'll be chocolate cake eventually out of it, but somebody. But I think it's a really grateful and proud of my kids for taking on such a big project. It's awesome. Yeah, it's a big project. It's very cool. It's the most I've ever invested in anything in my life. Homes included. So I just it felt right. I have a circle of friends that are accountants and lawyers and financial planners. Everybody got to see the business plan. So I'll get on it. Real positive feedback. So we're doing the right way, I think. But it's a big, heavy dose of cash to get it started. Well, Jim, you talked about it and having everybody over on the deck there, firing up the girl, the 50 inch TV. That sounds a lot of fun. What's the go to? What are you going to throw on that grill? The meat of choice you think for a party like that. Probably stakes. Okay. Steaks, fillets. Healthier, you know, I like fillets. They're more tender as a rule. I love rib eyes. So they're always in the hunt. A stakes probably the main thing. A little JR seasoning? Yeah, hell yeah. Makes it easy. Like stealing. I mean, you got to be an expert. You can turn your grill on it, but the beat on it at the right time. And all you do is cover it in our seasoning. You're home. You're done. So that's kind of how I look at that whole thing. Guys, like me who are amateur cookers is collected to do it for, I don't know if it's therapeutic or what. I really enjoy grilling and cooking for myself. And guess time of time. I just find it to be a fun thing to do and I want to do it as pain free as I can. I want to I'm not generally well seasoned with RJR seizing on mistakes. If at all possible, let them sit all day or overnight and their infinitely better. That's not a wise Taylor. That's the real stuff. And then anybody can do that. All of a sudden, you get your grill on, your meat has been sitting there overnight. It's been a season. Marinating so to speak, you want to add a little bit of liquid smoke on there, have at it. So it's really easy to keep it easy. My buddies are more interested in drinking. And that Coke machine that owe you Coke machine. Doesn't have any copes in it. It's got a few miles of water and a bunch of beer. Yeah, it's pushing out the good stuff. Yeah. Nick ultra. Right. Well, I'm not saying it's the best beer. I'm just saying, it's what I have my refrigerator thing right now. The best beer is free and cold. There you go. Free, cold and with a steak. There you go. All right, JR, we'll listen. This.
