"Would love to see what the simulation would pay anyway. Without further ado, we'll hear more about Alabama in the closing bell. Another day is in the books and we're taking stock of the sports world. It's time to find out who's up and who's down. Let's end the day right and hit the closing bell on Lee on this Zach Gilbert show. Good tweet from Corrie, He said. If you're in Houston like I am the song we're singing right now is hit the road, Jack and never come back. No more. No more. No more normal. As I was saying, No, no, no. Not not Nana. Hey, goodbye. Give Cory a stock up because he is correct. It should be hit the road, Jack. Jack Easterby. Get on out of town. Hit the road, Jack. That's good. Play on words. Nice job, Korey. Oh, All right. "BK. You guys. The Alabama Crimson Tide didn't just roll. They steamrolled Ohio State 50 to 24 last night in Miami to win the college football National championship with the victory. Bama head coach next seven, picks up his six title in Tuscaloosa, seventh all time and surpasses legendary Tide coach Paul Bear Bryant. I think coach Brian has, you know, sort of in a class of his own in terms of what he was able to accomplish what his record is, and I mean, he's the one that made Alabama and the tradition of Alabama a place where lots of players wanted to come say they've got some all time performances from his offense, including Heisman winning wide receiver Devante Smith, who said a championship game record with 12 catches Go along with 215 yards and three touchdowns, and he did it all in the first half, because you'd injure his hand early in the second half and be done for the night. His to be Mack Jones through five TDs completed 36 45 passes for 464 yards and running back now you Harris found the ends on three times as well. The rockers search for a new GM is taking a step

Thanks to the Goodyear Hotline. I'm going to start with the national championship before you get your pit coal. When I say What is the truth about what Nick Saving has done in Alabama? Even though you would the Auburn? What is the truth? Because, according to you, Everything. E mean, it's I don't I've It would be more difficult for me to find things that he has not done. Freddy and I think it started when he walked in, uh, kicked in the door, turn around catty Bart it and put a padlock on top of it for all the boosters and donors and guys who used to come in and have their fingerprints all over the athletic department in the football program, and said No more. You are not allowed here. Get out of my way. Leave me alone, but I will take your checks and they've been able to get facilities. They've been able to upgrade almost everything around that program. Be it stadium being The indoor facility, be it the weight room being the staff that they're able to hire and have help out. And then once he did, that he was able to bring in a constant wave of elite recruiters that brought in a constant wave of four in five star recruits that created a constant wave of first round draft picks that before they left. Created a constant wave of winds that led to a tsunami of SEC West Division titles, SEC titles and what will probably end up being a flood of national titles before he heads out so I really don't know what he had done, And now he's brought. Let me think about there was no Heisman Trophy winner and Alabama before Nick Saving arrived. Now they've had three and by the way, there's only been three of the last 16 that were non quarterbacks, and they've all belong to next statement. So I mean, the list goes on and on me, we're going to go down this year. We're gonna legitimately be able to talk about this as being the most decorated college football team. Of all time. I mean, the Walter Camp the bullet Nick off the outline. Remington Heisman. Joe More Award Golden arm, Johnny United Horning Award The Broyles, the Doak Walker, The Maxwell the AP, the Davey O'Brien and we're not finished yet They trail last year's L s U team. By two postseason awards, and the Manning and the Lombardi have not been announced. The Paul Bear Bryant, coach of the year and the A F. C, a coach that you have not been announced, so very good chance that we're gonna talk about. This is the most decorated team in the history of college football and got a good chance to pull home a national championship at the same time. I don't know what Nick Saban has not done while he's been in Alabama. The biggest part right there. Cole is that he told all the jock sniffing boosters right, including Paul Bear Bryant Jr. Back up. This is my program. It's his most impressive accomplishment because it could not have done all the other things If that did not take place s so how does it is my question? How does Steve Sarkisian do that a Texas because they got about 18? Jerry Jones is down there. On. Then how does Brian we have seen? How does Brian harsh and do that Auburn because they're just as bad as Obama and Texas? Well, I think Brian Carson's got a leg up because this was not one of those gentleman's hire. This was Alan Green Tire. Ellen Greene did this with the president, and he and goose went out and found Brian horse unvetted Brian Carson and made this higher happen. They came back and sold it to the committee. And then those boosters that you referenced were outnumbered, and all of a sudden they didn't have a choice. I don't know if that's necessarily how this Texas higher went down and this based on what I've heard people that I've spoken to about the inner workings there that's going to be and even much more insurmountable task than Alabama was, and that often was maybe even more so than those two combined. To be able to have that control of Texas. I don't think anyone ever will. I don't think anyone ever has s O. I think it would be more about understanding how to manage it that maybe go in and completely block it out. Or, you know, maybe don't set up a roadblock. But have a couple of detours with the valet that could help. You sort of navigate that traffic because I don't know if you could go to Texas and just completely get rid of that part of being the Texas head football coach. Ghost about Cole, Cuba. God, brother from the S E. C Network on Freddy and Fitz Simmons on ESPN Radio, the ESPN app and serious XM Channel 80. How messy could the Tennessee situation really become? Very, um, I I think it's unfortunate at the same time, because what you have now it would it would it blatantly appears to be Is a divide inside the athletic department and it you in order to win big kind of local. We're referencing with coach Saving. You gotta have most everybody pulling in the same direction. And now it really does appear that you have from an administrative standpoint, people involved with the athletic department, the football program, all pulling in different directions, and I don't know how much of that is a C Y A..

"40, San Antonio's first news with Charlie Parker last night, wide receiver Devante Smith. Of Alabama won the Heisman Trophy. Remember the old quote from head coach Paul Bear Bryant? Yes, when in a press conference was asked, Why aren't there any Heisman Trophy winners from the University of Alabama? Which bear replied probably something like this. We don't produce Heisman Trophy wears of Alabama. We produced championship seamen, and now there's been three since 2009. It's almost always a running back or a quarterback, more quarterbacks in any other rest position. Well, one of those Heisman Trophy winners Derrick Henry. Just did something that only seven other players in the history of the National Football League have accomplished. Think about this 100 years of the National Football League. And eight on Lee. Eight players have rushed for over 2000 yards in a season. I don't know. But I'm guessing that when Derrick Henry goes to bed, he prays that they could play the Houston Texans every week because the last three times once in 2019, and twice this year against Houston, he's rushed for over 201 of those was 250. He just became this past weekend on Lee, the eighth running back in over 100 years to rush for over 2000 yards. How many of the eight can you name? Well without cheating. O J. Eric Dickerson. Derrick Henry. Chris Johnson. Chris Johnson is the one everybody tends to forget when they're if they can name most of them, though, usually get through seven and they forget Chris Johnson and I don't know. It's like People forget Donner died. I don't know why. When you asked him who have you know about the reindeer, and they tend to forget sleepy when you ask about the divorce, asking about the eight people that rushed for over 2000 yards in a season and Chris Johnson He was getting for gotten. Here they are in order. Of Happening, okay. Juice was first in 1973. 2000 and three yards. Eric Dickerson was next in 1984 with 2105 Man. That's more than any man you want. Barry Sanders and 97. His fourth. Excuse me, Jamal Lewis in 2003 his third, right? Barry Sanders is fourth. Then comes Derrick Henry, who finished this season with 2000 and 27 million Harold Davis, Denver. Six with 2000 and eight Chris Johnson in 2000 and nine with 2000 and six And I mentioned use was first and he is currently eighth. Just another staff to put it into perspective. How hard instead is that every day? The difference between the guy with the most Eric Dickerson 2105. And juice. Eighth. 2000 and three is only a total of 102 yards had some days. It's hard. It's very hard to do. One other interesting side note. I believe Juice is the on Lee, one of the eight It. Did it in 14 games. Yeah, that's amazing. Everybody else got 16 games to accomplish the feat. Of course. Derrick Henry had that. Two games that he has you Texans, which helped him out quite a bit. And I wasn't here for Christmas wasn't here for New Year's. So I'm late on my Christmas present to you. But I'm going to give.

"Under the direction of coach Paul Bear Bryant, one of the meanest, toughest old football coaches you could ever play for. I mean, he was tough as nails. I played along with Joe Nemeth, the famous Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania quarterback that led the New York Jets to the Super Bowl Championship. I was a freshman with Kenny Stabler, who led the Oakland Raiders to the Super Bowl championship. They called him to snake. We were all there in the athletic dorm together at the University of Alabama in 1964 and 65. And then before I got to Alabama, we got into track season at my senior year of high school. Throwing the shot put in the discus. I was able to do well with that and set state records in both events. Throwing the asking shot put almost 60 Ft, which was the third father's throw in the nation that year for Hoskins student and throwing the discus about 170 ft. This was all without any weight program. No weight lifting. We didn't have weight lifting in those days. And so I had some other offers to go on a track scholarship to some other schools as well. But we stuck with football and 1964 we reported in the fall of 64 to University of Alabama's a freshman football player. Boy, did I get my eyes opened up. You see at my school? That was the toughest guy on the team. When I got there, I found out they had the toughest guy from over disco. The toughest guy from over it. That's good. The toughest guy him over disco. And you had to prove yourself all over again. Because now as a freshman football player in Alabama, you're the low man on the totem pole. I wish I could say I went on to be an all American and Alabama because I did make all American in high school. However, I quit. I left. After one year at the University of Alabama. We got out for the summer and one of the 11, I got me a job. That was making some money. I never really had any money, my mom and our just low income sort of people living in that federal housing project. So as I got some money, I got a car and got a job, started partying and goofing off and playing around. And when it came time in office to report back for two days I called up Coach Sound Bailey at University of Alabama and told him I wasn't coming back. Paying you a lot of expletives. That's curse words. So he let me have it and told me they were counting on me to be a starting offensive tackle. But I needed to get my family back down there where I belong. However, if you're arrogant, like I was at that time and probably still can be today. You don't see yourself as you really are. You see yourself as you think you are. American people always justify why they're right and everybody else is wrong. And in my arrogance, I wouldn't listen, because I mean, I had an apartment. I had a car had a job at some money. I had a girlfriend. What did I need school for? Because that not done or what? And so I mended off down what we call them my way Highway. Maybe you've been on that road before the my way Highway. And for about three years, it was my way, but you know, it's I was unhappy when I left school. I wasn't fulfilled. It wasn't what I thought it was gonna be. And To tell you the truth. I wouldn't really willing to pay the price that needed to be paid to be the kind of athlete that they needed because I was just too lazy. And after three years on the my way highway and I saw what a mistake I had made. You know that I have originated in Australia have a boomerang and they throw it out. And if it hits the animal they're trying to get for dinner. Well, then it'll knock it down and they can run. Get it. But if it misses that will return to them. My My mom bought me a boomerang one time and I immediately foot and it went up on the roof and never saw it again. But anyhow, my life bull reigned from misery and unhappiness to triple the compound, misery and unhappiness. I mean, I had the car. The apartment had the different girlfriends. I had the money. I had the job. But inside there was a search light that would go around in my soul. And the searchlight would show me all the stupid things I've done, and I knew I knew inside. That I was just such a loser and I didn't have any peace with God. I didn't even think about God. I never went to church my whole life. Nobody in my family really went to church. And so I didn't go up. But maybe once when I was 11, my mother sent me to a camp, a church camp in Mississippi called French Camp Academy. And she got rid of me for three months and I went down there and I heard about God. Yes, I did. But I didn't get enough information clearly toe understand it? No, 12 actually come to know him through the Lord Jesus Christ. And so, uh, That summer against three years out of college. I wasn't Panama City, with some friends goofing off. We would all go down there in the summer and hang out of the play and go to a place called the hangout. And that's where Of course, we would drink beer and chase girls and fight and fight on the beach, you know, fight. You know, after a while it got old and then some reason another I got tired of it. And I got in my little sports car, my little Mustang 390 Chemical Hench Mustang and came back to Birmingham, which is about 250 mile trip from the Gulf Coast back up to Birmingham. My roommate. Want to know? What are you doing home? Why did you come back? What's not wrong? And I said, I don't know, man. I'm just sick of it. And, uh, it was just nothing was adding up. Nothing was adding up and s O. He said. Well, tell you what, Let's do. Let's uh Let's go to the river and let's get the boat. He had a little boat. We could get the beer in the boat and I sit down and go to the river and park it on the sandbar and watch the girls ski up and down the river, and that was our objective on Sunday. However, Saturday was a different story. Inside of the I wandered into a shopping area and ran into an old girl. A girl I knew in high school named Jane, and she had met a cheerleader. And Jane saw me and I saw Jane and we were talking and I was trying to flirt with her a little bit as I would have done with any beautiful girl and and said, Would you consider going out with me? And she said, Well, where would you like to go? And I said, Well, how about You know, we go to the drive in Go to the drive in and drive in theater was a big in those days because we'd park on the back road and fog up the windows make out And so run for that at all. No, we're not going to the drive in and I said Okay, well, How about I take you home? We go get something to eat and maybe go cruising? No, not that. Okay, who came in the phone number, so I got her phone number. Next day was Sunday. On Sunday, We went to the river got the boat loaded up with beer. Launch the boat. Parked a truck at the top of the hill went back down the hill in the boat floated off, sucking all the beer left. I forgot to put the plug in the back end of the boat, and it sucked. Well, my roommate went too happy about that. But that was that, so we had to come back home early on Sunday afternoon. And it was on that Sunday afternoon that I called Jane back up again. That's.

He said, You better get up there to those teachers. And you better apologize. You better get your grades up, son. You got one semester left. And he said it all depends on what you do this last semester. Well, I went to my teachers. And I said, I'm sorry. You know, I know I clowned around. I didn't pay attention. But If you'll help me. He was a wonderful guy. I'll tell you. He believed that of sports was for winning. You know, he really I think he'd cook. Stephen literally in such as that. But he was a he was pretty winning was a big part of his priorities. I think it carried over to Steve I Joe let me ask you this. How how good was Steve Spurrier in woodworking you. So LSU's my second team. There you go. And I hate to say that I hate Auburn because my whole family was all fence. I've married twenty three years. I lived in Birmingham. I even put my dollar into collusive for college. My son went to little back door college right out of Auburn, which he should actually been a welcome at Auburn actually after I put him in like three or four years of baseball camp there. He could've walked on. And he could be playing in the major leagues. Now. No mad. Hey, deci. He's a dummy. I toast team. Switch hidden wouldn't ever? Let him his wish it in a game. "Sweeney is worth that kind of money when you talk about two national championships and in drawing as much attention as Clemson has Sabin. There's no. I've always argued that Sabin were a fortune five hundred CEO he would make fifty or sixty or one hundred million dollars a year. And by the way, those salaries are out there, the top CEO's, I'm not talking about stocks, you know, on a one time basis, but they make fifty to seventy million dollars a year. It it's crazy. But that's what they make. And they make it because the next guy makes it so why why is Davos weenie being paid a little bit more the Knicks saving it looks good. And and it it emboldens the fan base. Thanks for the call. Great to hear from you. William is up next. Hey, William welcome to the program. Hey, Paul first time caller from going home of and kitchens. Oh, wonderful. Well, no, no. It was good for with coach at Clemson though coats forward, Danny Ford. Got passed. But. Yeah. Keep going William. Yeah. While I was won't share where you back when I was young. I had got shot today. Accident a deer hunting thing and Paul bear Bryant. My aunt wrote this letter, and he'd called me in the hospital, and I had only been out of the altar for a day or two. So I really wasn't able to tell and he told me called me back. And and he did it nestles route Ford died in Illinois game. And he talked about fifteen minutes that pitcher at a football. And you know, just shot the, I'm a nobody, you know. And so you know, what I really wanted to call while I've been a huge Alabama fan the whole. And one thing I always does about there. He was always looking for the next big player makes good player, and I was sick in the hospital critical condition. And he asked me said, so you know, what we think good football players. I like that. And I said, yes, sir. I know there's one over here in fast them that turned out to be. Well, we know that it did work out. So. Exactly you're talking about. Yeah. But I worked for a guy that used to play about Bama, Joe diz buke. So we all knew frady, and I was real good friend with free kitchens. Daddy, we call best all gathered, you know, Paul years. I just didn't want Paul. I'm Deborah Paul up. But I've been watching your show for the last few years, and I've come to respect you. And kind of like the way you stand up to Nick, I'm Nick David play. But not be people stay up to to listen. I you what am I have great respect for coach saving, and I know that and I know I I feel like I just given opinion. And you know, I'm always accused of being too pro savings, so when somebody accuses me of being negative. I'm going man where we're that. Come from. John. Thanks for sharing the the story. And I I have great memories of Freddie, kitchens knew him. Well, and just think about Freddie, kitchens on that football field in the in the mid nineties in Davos weenie. "Yeah. Here though. Tarling is let me ask you about the way you juggle baseball career. Obviously you were pitcher. Although there was one video you I remember seeing you out of triple runs weird. I was of the do you? Remember that video. I was a two way baseball player. You know, I was outfielder. But you know, as a hitter, that's one thing about baseball is. That's the hardest thing to do in sports. Is they had a base on? This is very challenging. And when you're not getting repetitions of doing that. You got blessed with good arm. Yes. You find your way on the mouth and being a pitcher. You just have to have a a relentless about you. Most pitchers are very weird. You know what I'm saying? Because all they do they get the ball and. They have a good relationship with the cancer edging. We always head coach the baseball and this. But you know, I I was I was the position player as well. So I know how hard it is one of the toughest sports ever. Well, that's what I wanted to ask you because we had called the Murray on the show at and he's juggling. And do you think for Bo Jackson to do it running back outfielder Dion quarterback outfielder, you think it's even remotely possible to be a franchise quarterback and to dabble in the offseason with baseball. If Murray tries to do, I I think I think customer could do whatever he puts his mind to do you have enough time to know the playbook and to get to know, the teammates and had that come rod. Okay. I can't put no limitation on that, man. I think you could have done it. I I believe I believe if I if I had the opportunity that he will I would love to do it real our love to do it. But I know I know as the NFL quarterback how much time consuming can be. But I believe Calamar Chula has a passion to be a NFL quarterback. Just from what I've heard. I know he got drafted high in baseball. I told for all, but but this is nothing like being an NFL quarterback. And I think he knows that. I think I mean. Grew up in Texas. Yup. You know, they they praised a high school football players. You know? In front praised a high school. So I think it was one of his dreams to probably be both. Yeah. But when he gets drafting first round as a quarterback, I think he's going to fall in love with it because he's going to achieve one of his dreams. And you never know what it may take him. If he does go to baseball route. I think it's going to be very challenging for him to go to baseball rout come back and play quarterback in the NFL. I think it is. Because the the amount of players that come in year after year the mental quarterback the coming year after year. But I think if he does start this thing off I believe he will be successful in NFL has a quarterback because this new wave the Baker mayfield's of the world. Lamar Jackson of the world are starting to make some some splash. Yeah. You know, back in Michael Vick was to go. Yeah. Doing everything with his feet and embrace now. Back back in the day was like, wow, this guy's good. And he's unique. But now we kind of got this antiquated system. We're not gonna really let these guys run around. And do what they gotta do. Now. Cam Newton chains the game. And they change it. All. Hams on that list? Weekdays the game. Cam new made it a whole new generation, and he opened the door for a lot of the lot of lot of quarterback that people deemed athletic. Yeah. Quarterback. You know what I'm saying? So so Cam Newton changed the game. And we're just taking advantage of Casey's. I want to ask you this man and. We all know, we all know what's happened off the field with you. We all know that going to run through people know. All right. I'm not trying to come sideways at you. Because one thing I've always said about you, and I have pretty good instincts. Man. I think you're really good person do now there's some some people who who make mistakes who aren't good people. I think you one of the good ones. I think you have a good heart. I think you want to do the right thing. I watch it hard knocks. I could see your family environment. Are you ready to do the right thing? All the time. I'm going to do the right thing. But you've had a few. You know what I'm saying? Yes, everyone everyone's had that. But I'm I'm accountable for what for what? Whatever whatever the the perceptions about me. I'm accountable for everything. Okay. I know that perception is reality. And I know that I have to change the perception that I have in this in this sports world in this real world. But I'm a father of a seven month year old rats. Mary my high school sweetheart in a year or two, okay, man. I'm a man more important. I'm a man of God. You know, it's a chase him every single day. I have to do my my work. Yeah. My Christ's work. Great life. It ain't. No, it ain't no two people. I am a good person. And I don't mean that when I said that I said that before I got a good heart. And I think he's ready to become what we all thought would be. Thank I you ready, man. Thank you. Now, we got to sit this one last question for you. And I know you've seen this with BRUCE'S staff, it's mostly African American where we had some crisis is as it pertains to the Rooney rule and being a black quarterback. I think you're in a unique position to answer. This. How does the NFL make it more equitable for minority coaches who can't advance? You know what I mean? I love what BRUCE'S doing because BRUCE'S old school. He was roommates on my dad at Virginia Tech. They were the first black white roommates Virginia Tech. He doesn't see race. He hires black core coordinators. He gives them opportunities. How does it fixes? How's it fix itself? I think through time everything time, Mr. is secure of everything. But I believe that people are starting to see that when you have people in that room, whether they're white black, Hispanic. Will you have guys that are relatable to the players? It's easy for the players to to learn from them like if you in a room coaching running backs or over offense. It's easier for a player to relate to you. Because they know that you're credible doing that. One thing that I'm about about BA was you know, he would he coached running backs in Alabama back when Paul bear Bryant was there. And if you remember Paul bear Bryant had to get beat by USA to star allow USC started allowing African Americans a play there. So he's been in Alabama, Alabama still a very close minded place. Okay. So he understands that in the crazy thing about all his coaches were players for him at temple. So it's not just a black black stab is family. Yep. It's family for him. And that's what football is all about you've been in the locker room. It's the ultimate team game. And as long as you have organization that's built around family the patriots. Why are they back? Why were they at every single year because they cheat? Because it's because they are I am late at night here. Brian store play for me play play with me at Florida state as my center next year winning one Super Bowl was Tom Brady. I'll say Brian. What what is what is it about? The patriots say, bro. Is this a family? You know, whether you like whether you like the system or you don't. Just like would you like your brother or sister or not? Your family, and as long as we understand that the sport that the sport that we're all in love, you know, America's raiders game football. It's all about teamwork makes the dream work. And always you got people in there. That's all about family, not about themselves, not just selfish individuals worrying about long as I have me a job if I get fired I'm going to make sure I have a job. Yeah. It gotta be man. We in this together. If I'm not here that he's not here. Hey, listen. Thanks for coming by. Thanks, france. Or the questions the way you did brother ready to see James Stewart's thing give you some good job. James? Appreciate man. Jameis Winston right here on Tiki and Tierney. All right. So TC first of all that was awesome. That was all he was really forthright. He was very relaxed that was really enjoyable. It might be my favorite spot of the week. So I think you're right, especially because it was not attorney.
