Shared Plates: How Eating Together Makes Us Human
"Samir Threat is author of salt, fat acid heat. She's been on the show before to talk about charbonnet. Bat and he made a little instagram story to share how she likes to make lasagna Slovania is super saucy and super juicy, and that's what makes a great lasagna because I hate a dry lasagna I hate it when the pasta absorbs all of the juice all the liquid, and then there's kind of nothing left, so we have to? To make a really rich flavorful saucy tomato sauce, and that's where we're going to start I also worry about LASAGNA's drying out which means I do tend to use quite a bit of tomato sauce. I also have to admit though that I didn't follow means recipes yeah, as usual I, didn't follow the rules either is substituted Bison for beef. I added a Kale and should tacky layer. That was basically all over the place. I Ashley Belanger. Now former intern played by some means rules time to make. Is the sound of melting. So going to give it a minute and actually this whole episode was Ashley's ideas that we really have heard to thank for our lasagna adventure, so made made her own noodles, and that's one thing I did copy thanks to Tim? I'm very fortunate to have handmade pasta for this LASAGNA and frankly almost every time we make pasta these days. Nice Long Strip that I'm just take down to. Kind of medium thickness. I think beautiful holy. Ashley did the know boil stuff you buy in the packet? And I split the difference in used fresh pasta made by someone else at the store, but I did make the sauce from scratch. Definitely not design your whether in Los Angeles might. But the stove on. Seem as that heats up. I will add the onion. In here two hours later is my bullies sauce. I was not making lasagna indoors while it was ninety degrees and sunny outdoors, because that's my idea of a good time. Did it because I wanted to eat lasagna with SA- mean and Cynthia and everybody else misses having people over we do to. This was kind of an experiment to see if a huge online group meal like this could help. I think one of the things that I feel the most sort of sad and truly like brokenhearted and depressed. About is the sort of unspoken moments of being together. It's not the grand stuff. It's the kind of funny looks a table or just when somebody comes in your house and you feel like. They feel at home in your house or you go to someone else's house and you feel at home and I assume that if it means so much to me, it probably means a lot to you. "Sixty seven twenty three welcome back three eleven three six three eleven I'm gonna go back to the phones let me go to Patty Patty's going us from Ohio Hey Patty good morning good morning how are you happy new year happy new year to you and your staff one thing that all this done off the top question it really has not a lot to do with the finance but I was wondering are you going to have a retreat that here we are not we're having more next year we are already planning it so we're we'll be doing our retreat next year right now it looks like it's going to be at the cold North Carolina he is a matter of fact I probably know by the end of the day so Yvonne is working on that of course Marty will be back and we're not sure about what yet but were Marty Marty will definitely be back hopefully would will too or or or a son but I yeah that's that's what we're looking at right now the downside the reason the downside of the clover to fill up pretty quickly in pretty easily because I don't have a lot of room but yeah we're excited about it's going to be a little less money good food great environments magnificent place have you been to the coast the only grand and to two or three weeks I lost track but yeah it is it is the greatest place and you know I remember years ago tell on a afraid to have a retreat there and they don't even know where it was never heard of it and it is an amazing an amazing place in Yvonne I've been going there for twenty years or more for various different things and so we're excited about that probability so I will I will sit we wanted it we wanted to really get a jump on it so I'm gonna be we're gonna have it up on the website we're going to ask people to register early to get on a waiting list if it's if it fails and all that kind of stuff so we're gonna get we're gonna get on early I'm excited I am I wish I could do more like everyone only one of the earth and that was because of surgery and I wasn't allowed to try and but I and we thought that this was you know to eat we knew that you didn't do it every year but we thought you didn't have one last year and we thought maybe this was the year but this year is going to be so packed with everything political I understand if you're not no we had one last year last year was was Dallas that was last year I was nineteen twenty nine yeah you were there yeah I know I was here that was back in what was it Matt Morris your March back in more modern yeah yeah so that was that was last year's and then now we're do twenty twenty one yeah great well don't give me something to look forward to yes you have thank you Patty I'm glad you called and I'll tell you fine hi Patty needs to know so we'll get our crack and thank you and god bless all of you all right thank you I sure appreciate god bless her yeah bye bye you know Pat is not the only one we have so many people that have asked I thought it was I didn't know it was last year I see the bundle we have to get moving on so we just did what we did last year I'm gonna do it again so I have next year's retreat we're really excited about the probability of it I know a lot of you have I have never been to one which is not I I would you say to all of you it's not a conference to retreat in the true fashion of a retreat we are in god's word both in song and in study and it is a real retreat at a conference it's not entertaining thoughts entertaining entertaining actually but it is it is it is three answer you're gonna common I spend some quiet time and some not so quiet time it by some great great fellowship in time with the lord and it is it is amazing and now we love it love it when there's young people there because young people may never have another chance to experience really Sirius retreat and it is it is a lot of fun and it is a great great time so how is the beginning of April last year okay yeah so anyway good good stuff so obviously it will be you'll see that on the website the sad part is we keep it small very intentional so all we don't lie we don't want I don't want three thousand people conference so we keep it really small and the downside to that is people that have been there before all want to come back so they're the first ones and this year are we gonna ask your rooms are to choose from dole we grow Billy Graham coal doesn't have a lot of rooms now there will be opportunities stay off campus if you want and you can do that that will you know that you can do that in and then just come to the meals and retreat they are the co so we'll have that opportunity but it is fun to be able to stay right there at the coach so hopefully you'll keep your eyes open for a let me go to James in Nevada Hey James are you don't good are you talking to me now yes Sir all right good morning good morning I'm just wondering how come all these people and the country in investment banking on they don't pay any interest and then they and then they take law and they take it that little tiny bit interesting you give you away from you yeah but let's little paper costs and stuff like this yeah I don't know James is a great question I have no banks on my last I've never invested in any of the big banks and up until four years ago I had no banks now I have one or two community banks are but I don't have any the big banks on and now I'm a credit union guy because they're nonprofit they share the wealth with you know by way of interest rates and and good rates on loans but I don't I don't know I don't know why only because I guess they think it's the only thing you can do I suspect I don't know yeah keep your money at home and that's hard to do too yeah yeah that's hard to do yeah yeah yeah good question James it's not you know go on answer though for a long time people don't know you know I mean it people that that they listen to the program they go to credit user Christian community credit union and everybody I know that it's done it says my gosh gracing the world's like you know it really is old they keep everyone of their loans I don't sell so they do a mortgage they keep it they hold it there they're not sell on the loans are not be and everything to death you know it's just not there it there given back to him two missions into interest all on one CD pretty amazing so we're trying to help people do that so I appreciate your way in order to change all right thank you Sir also a good investing in our products and the circuit board eight is that live in one well yeah I mean they don't they don't you know it's it's it's called you know chip I mean chip makers you know is a very very act as a matter of fact other number one son last year stock last year was one that a lot of our partners own the in that are a bit on my buy list for a lot of long time over the years was a number one stock was up on a forty seven percent last year a chip makers doing really really good and that is the same thing that you're talking about that the circuit kinds of things so yeah it's a very very good good investment not all of them are are good but some of the good ones are good and they continue to grow yeah yeah one of the circuit board superconductors long even sells loaning seller stock yeah well a lot of them a lot of more private privately held and are probably going to stay that way I don't want to deal with all the regulation but yeah that's true lot of them are not publicly traded yeah my wife has landed Houston Marcel selling overseas but it's a but the property on yeah well I don't know it best way to sell on overseas yeah I don't either I mean if it's if it's an international property you gotta you gotta find a real order that down that really knows what they're doing and that can be hard when you're not living there I can be hard to find somebody but yeah young gentleman Utah that she's going to sell the Japanese navy she once cell on American company yeah property yeah yeah that's again hard thing to do got to find a market for you know I don't know how you market something like that over there but there's a real orders around that know how to do and I'm sure find the right one the Indians yeah it's a not so the reservation yeah that's really hard to do you won't you won't sell that nobody internationally by that that'll be really hard nobody big internationally our will bite if it's part of Navajo Nation or one of those just because you're certain rules regulations that come with that is very very difficult you know one of the reasons why international companies come here is they don't want they're saddled with a bunch of rules and regulations they round out their freedom here in America but that it's it's a little bit difficult to do that for them but anyway thanks James I sure appreciate it are we gonna run folks we have lines open six ten three six three eleven stand if your if your call you're welcome to do that six ten three six three eleven ten and one of the things that we talk about as we talk about other markets where I I mentioned that once you see the president said on January fifteenth is going to be signing at the White House phase one agreement and one.

I would hang onto it. I would I would keep it. And wouldn't even think about selling it. The thing is that he had children, and I'm thinking they're not gonna want hanging out. Until I die. Yup. And that's exactly that's exactly what I was thinking. I just didn't want to say. So, you know, I think you're smart thinking that way. And that's why that's another reason why I think you need to keep it. Okay. Okay. Thank you so much, and you really helped me a lot. You're welcome. Thank you. Glad you. It is an unbelievable time, folks. And I wanna tell you every once in a while we need to do something for ourselves. To sure up not to gain. But to sure up. Spirit. And I haven't cheated on them. I hit a lot of sex before. I got married though. It's terrible. Don't ever get married. If you think you're going to have sex up in my mouth. Now. Say today, and I I love you to death. And and I'm glad that you called up a pun intended. Of course. And I'm glad you're still out there. Your your special eighty and I'm glad you're still with us big hugs to you young lady. Did you have married again yet hell to the no I'm not I heard what you just said about sex. I can I can promise. Listen, patty. They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. I am no good at relationships. Let alone marriage. So I can say with absolute certainty. There is no way in hell that I'm ever getting married again ever. And Mike show today. They said, they're guessing who hates Mike and somebody said you, and I think that's absolutely wrong. Absolutely one hundred percent false. I've never I've never even disliked Mike angry with Mike have been frustrated with Mike, but there's never been a time since I've known him that I've disliked my counter, he's not a lot for me on a personal and professional level. And he's a great dude, one of the warmest nicest, most compassionate guys away from the scenes, of course, that I that I've ever met. Thank you, seventy seven five seven nine to five and eight hundred seven seven one one or two five I got some real insight into avocado just talking to Patty there now. I feel this is the first time that I've felt a what is it called sadness that he's no longer. Yeah. Well, I mean, I've been sad before. But it is when you hear somebody who was his friend say he lived for the station. It's. It's a tough balance between living for the station in us, you know, putting them on every time and letting him, you know, hijack it's just was a balance. So go back and do it all again. I do it. Exactly the same way. We did it. I think maybe he liked the is it adversarial relationship that he had he thrived off of. Oh, yeah. He definitely dated is why we call my office line incessantly because he knew one in every fifty times I would answer and we'd have a conversation. He'd promised never to call it again. And then the next day he call it again up. Yup. How are you guys doing good? Thank you very much. Appreciate that. What's up? Just replying to inquiry of one in slope last week. And I'm here to say about you the fire. This guy brought us the oh, you mean, rap wise, or do you mean, you mean, tree wise? Oh, I said something. Just an awesome. And you said. It said something that's wrong show here to say about you the fire, bro. I think wrong show SBK says you want the smoke that he said he said that on the show. So I know you might be a couple of hours early. What do you think is sober the Kennedy starts at six where are you looking for for smoke for SBK? Guess that's how you deflect. Okay. With the MIR the MIR radio show beer, the MIR radio show. Okay. The question there, should I have a smoke. Then should I take naked smoke? See what it's all about. All right. I would I would like to inquire, sir. As to the quality of your smoke. Would you like to bring that smoke? Her. I'm telling you. I'm telling you, I straight up want that. That's what I.

Who who was he who was Tony you knew Tony better than any of us. I felt like sometimes I. Taty legally blind. And he so you gotta you gotta picture this. They he has he no he I don't think he ever had a girlfriend. I don't think maybe he had sex once in his wife, and so this is what he builds his life around trying to cater to radio and practices music. And listen to you guys and say what you wanted them to say, oh my God. You know? Mother tried to tell him that you know, what he he he got a little too attached. You got a little too attached. Disney a little to attach the radio station. Oh, yes. When like one Mike told him that he you know, he didn't play too. Well, this this day when they let him play with people toddler. He I think he was heartbroken. And then you see he wanted to manipulate the problem. And I you said he didn't want to go. Then he then he did wanna go he really wanted to go. But they wanted to guys to really say that but. Really hurting hurt me. I was crying. Because at that time. I couldn't I couldn't drive Mike killed if we're really putting together what she's. Picking up what you're putting down. I appreciate that very much because he said I murdered. Although so I think it really really was the opposite and going back to the part about what you think was truly his favorite radio personality this radio station. I think we glossed right over that. "Seven zero seven fifty five thirty three let me go to Patty Patty's calling us from Ohio. Hey, patty. Good morning. Good morning. Well, it was good. It was good last night. 'cause. But it was. The other way my question, I hopefully, this will be easy to answer. But on your commentary this morning, the two that you had sell one and put it in the other. Yeah. Okay. Well, the last time that's the one that you said to sell the last time it was on your by list, which was not too long ago. I bought some to help dollar cost average down, you know. And i'm. I'm still a little bit under and that altogether. But so if I sell it, and I will be taking a a loss on that. And which is fine. And then I could put what I had. But I do get into the second one enter the other one, right? How how does that affect? It. Doesn't affect my taxes? Any doesn't know? No, I won't affect taxes. Because now I put that on there assuming most people are at a loss. I will tell you just as a disclosure, I own it. I am not a loss in it. If I do that I will pay capital gains tax now, I don't care if the company goes bankrupt. I'm probably going to hold onto it. I don't see it going back route. But I'll see doing much good either for a very long time. So you know, it's not mandatory sell. I mean, if you've got a very long time term time horizon, and you want to keep it, you know, that's that's fine. But I think it would be prudent to move it. I wasn't worried about capital gains. Because that that stock has been on my ballots so many times for so long for for years. I know a lot of people are probably even if they've dollar cost average. Were were are at a loss. The only reason I'm not is because I doubled my position when it dropped at it's at a bottom last year. And so. I'm not setting the world fire, but Amapa hair anyway, so I'm not I'm going to leave it. But that's just that's just me. I'm not, you know, if if something happened where it tanked again terribly down about I don't know where it is. Right now may have turned around it was negative in pre market. Open. Oh boy. Yeah. Drop like a rock. Okay. So you're you're at a much bigger loss right now than you were yesterday. So yeah, it's down considerably. I mean, it's down. A whole lot today. So it's down to six fifty a share. So apparently a lot of people feeling the same way. I do when everybody's everybody's bailing on it. So. Listen, I I don't think the company is going to go bankrupt. Or I would be selling it myself. I'm a man, so it's up to you. But I think it's gonna be a long road for them. And so my thought was to stay in the same sector put something else on there that I feel that is in a rated solid by note. No doubt about it. I would consider it a strong buy for the long term. And the nice thing about the one that I put on there. You know, it's pain. You know of a very good dividend. I mean, this company is paying a dividend to but just to give you an example of the dividend. So the dividend that this company is paying nine cents dividend. The other companies pain is something like forty cents. So and that other company that I put on there in five years is never changed their dividend and never missed a dividend. That's that's stronger company is so big difference between five cents and forty seven forty five cents. So that's I mean, it is just it's not forty five. I don't know exactly what it is. I don't remember. But. It is. That's I I just think strategically it would be, you know, I think when you're looking at a company that's paying twenty percent. A twenty cents. I think it's twenty five cents twenty cents more dividend than the one you're holding. It's always a good thing. And it's a much stronger company financially. So right. I mean, I I would like to see you. Probably move it. But there's not going to be a tax consequence is it in an IRA account. It's in a Roth IRA so that wouldn't be taxi consequence either way. Even if they're even if you were up in it. So I have a question that kind of okay. We are. I'm up about fifteen percent in our cash are up above the allocation. Yes. What what would be what do you think about taking some of that cash because we've just been holding off doing anything? Yes. Until after the election. Yes. Taking some of that cash buying the second one. Yes. And leaving that. One in there for a while to see if it comes up. Yeah. I mean, that's that's fine. I mean, you could do that. And I and like I said, I think it may be a while before before the other one comes out, but. Yeah. I would be okay with that. How much I mean, how how old are you guys, Patty? Well, my husband, and I are both retired. My husband has seventy five I'm seventy two. But that's another concern. You know? Yeah. I wouldn't do it. I wouldn't do it. You wouldn't sell this one this one? Yup. Okay. All right. What I needed to know? Thank you for your. I appreciate it. You're welcome. Thank you, Patty. Let me go to Chris Chris Collins from Louisiana. Hey, chris. Thanks for taking my call. Sure. Yeah. Commenting on the. This result is pretty good for the market. We could have kept the house would have been better. But just talking politically, I think. To a certain extent, I voted for Trump, I support him. But I think his behavior is sorta come home to roost, and I think if. As you mentioned focusing on things economic would have been certainly better talking about reducing deficits. I mean, he think he could get away with some things that you just can't necessarily get away with the media pulled off in the sort of win. And then he kinda thought he was bulletproof posses fairly stubborn. Yes. And you know, I think if he would've just maintain a more even keel been Trump, but you know, been mostly presidential right? He won the house back, man. Chris. I you're hitting the nail on the head. And I agree with you a hundred percent, you know, he sit out he sent out a tweet this morning that said may maybe I need to change my tone of Nabis, like, do you think really that would have been nice that would have been nice like a year ago? But yeah, I mean, maybe maybe this is a blessing in disguise because you know, maybe just the notion that he sent that tweet out. He's obviously thinking about those things, you know, it is hard for the majority of the people. I get caught up me just there are certain things that I can't see because I'm consumer. With economics and the economic data and the economic impact and all those kinds of things, and I'm consumed with the religious freedoms, the moral authorities, and those kinds of things that I think are extremely important to this country. So so I I have this ability to sift through because I'm from Philadelphia live in Philadelphia. I understand his some of his attitudes a little bit, and it kind of rolls off our back because we grew up with that. But you know at the same time. I think so I'm able to see through some of that or put some of that aside to see the contents of what he's trying to do and say, but that's that's not the majority of people the majority of people the way you say, sometimes it's not what you say. It's how you say it, and and maybe maybe this is a blessing and he's coming to that realization. And maybe he's beginning to look ahead and thinking about twenty twenty already insane. You know, we've got a I know he cares about America. I know he does. And I know he cares deeply about it wants to see it. But hopefully, we'll get a trade deal out of this will be in a stronger negotiating standpoint. And I think the markets and the economy, I think I'm a little disappointed as I mentioned about the long term. Aspect of companies planning. But I think you hit the nail on the head. And maybe it's a bit of a wakeup call. I mean, we'll see. Yeah. Well, I think I tell you one thing that's going to be fun to watch this Nancy Pelosi's all of a sudden caught the car, and let's see what the hell. She does excuse my French because I mean, she she I'm sorry. She's a political lunatic. Running a lunatic party. So in some ways hope Trump can just stand back up here like the become mature one. And let those folks do what they will. So. Yeah. Hearing me out. Thank you. Chris. You made some great points. And I appreciate it. Thank you. But yeah. Eight four four seven zero seven fifty five thirty three eight four four seven zero seven fifty five thirty three we're coming up on a break. Hey, listen to this. The Dow the Dow's up two hundred twenty four points right now, not so bad for the open. So let's see let's see what happens. I mean. You know, why let me just tell you not put this on my commentary section.

He was saying he's the best, but he was saying how same thing like our brains are triggered towards that, that one guy who's not having to get time like there'd be a thousand faces before the reason it it does in on that folks on that one hand, it's really weird tippety by why connectivity buys come like, why are you. Front row, dune, but you know what? It just a sometimes people do that though. There's won't be entertained. Sometimes they don't lie. I don't laugh when I'm really entertained. Sometimes watch guy ever. It's hard for me to laugh. I watch if I really like a comic up be I'll be more marveling and I'm having it, but I'm not laughing when I watched ghost busters a kid as a funny movie I've ever seen when I was a kid. I, I've never been more insane. You know what I was doing. I was biting my nails, my girlfriend, Patty Patty. We used to always say Bryant calm down because I would watch John Leguizamo when he would do his one man shows when I was younger and I'd be like this in, I wanted to be a comic or something I wanted to do it. He did, and instead of laughing, I was so entertained that if you'd like my girlfriend would go stop biting your nails keep because it would made me. How old were you when you. Any one job still by you do to do nerve? I bite my nails. If I'm thinking, if I'm nervous, I'm overwhelmed. I the so short. Right me too. About one hundred times in a minute. When I get nervous metoo I start at my bladder just like, get it out. Go, I come. You just got coming. When you get nervous. I'm nervous now. Red heads, what a bad sugar. Seventy bias. How about Louis c. k. coming up at the seller? What he we talked. We talked about it a little bit a little bit tat I want to save for this. Not not all, here's okay. I'll give my two super student too. Stupid sense. Does every comics to like take in their bother me about yesterday. First of all, I didn't even hear about it until the afternoon until like a million people had asked inventions, and then I got on Twitter, which is a garbage dump of a place. Now Twitter can fuck and drown. I think it's the worst place in the world. It's really dog shit. Now it's not even fun anymore. It used to be fun. Wow. Show many comics. We're taking shots at Louis and any big name. Comics. Well, Michael, Ian black actually actually sent him defended him, but then recanted all that because he got hit two. He knew he was going to get hit too much backlash, but then that's why he defended give it what he should have done because he said there are normal face them backlash from this. He should just tweeted it and disappeared. Just get off. Yeah, if you're going to do that, but he went back and because his audience, his audience is very much the audience that would put him in check, very left wing, one hundred percents. They're very like, are you kidding me right now versus looking at Michael, Ian black. Firestorm thing. Okay. So then there's articles written in like maybe enough power, whatever variety would've smaller publications, but like the of the of this ilk and like in Carmel, Julian McCullough. Couple of other comics. They were like, this is a workplace issue. This is disgusting. If you jerked off at Dunkin donuts, you ain't got fired. Your boss wouldn't hire you back five months later glazed.

"I asked you this is it normal once you get married or for america couple to develop a crush on someone and if so is it acceptable to discuss and haven't talked about and how do you handle it i mean i'm not married spoiler alert but if i were married i would not find it okay to have a crush on somebody else or for my partner too i think if all being totally honest you're going to be married for a long time or forever rising that the plan yeah sure you find people attractive course sure in your own head maybe you play the game of i have a crush but you don't really have a crush correct i'm just curious to know or is it fine to develop a crush when you're married and tell your spouse that's my crush that caught me different from saying there's a line between finding somebody attractive yes i think that's totally normal we find we're human but having a crush takes it to a little bit of a different level crush and then in this case sending roses as a secret admirer yeah not okay but is it common to develop a crush once you get married at crush someone else why you looking at patty patty's the closest thing we have to marry right now well why don't i can't wait to hear reaction i don't think i think what you said honey i think we're human think we are attractive to other attracted to other oh i don't think once you get married that automatically stops it doesn't know so i think it would i call it a crush like do you say no know you're not married but you've been with michael for a long time do you tell him who you have crushes a half celebrity crushes we that doesn't doesn't yeah but i i don't think you tell someone to have a crush unless you're falling in love with someone see you could have a crush but the moment you it comes out of your mouth it's you're falling in love yeah so the human brain will you know someone's attract given you can have.
