Wet Notes - 9-27-21

"This is wet notes here on scuba shock radio for monday. September twenty seventh two thousand and twenty one first up. I want to congratulate tech clark and a dive locker. Podcast on celebrating the second anniversary for those who don't know about this. Podcast tech. Started this to help die professionals with various topics and techniques. But it's not just for dive professionals. I remember listening to the first episode. Way back in two thousand nineteen just before dima that year i've come to look forward to each weekly episode tech plans to keep the show going and has teed up a lot of great new content for the year year ahead. So i'd encourage you to check out the dive locker podcast. There's a lot of great information and perspective on things that hopefully will give you something to think about. Scuba shack is a proud patron of the dive locker. By the way tech also hosts a podcast titled the league of extraordinary divers. Where you can listen to some of the giants of our industry. Great job tech. Keep it coming now. I don't know what it is. But i seem to be a sucker for a message in a bottle story. So here's another one this time. The story involves a bottle that was washed up on the shores of the big island of hawaii. The bottle started his journey thirty seven years ago from japan and it was put in the water by school children. As part of an experiment in monitoring ocean currents the number of bottles were cast into the ocean in nineteen eighty-four from choshi highschool hawaii's about six thousand kilometers or four thousand three hundred miles from the launch point now. The bottle was found by abbie graham while her family was visiting a beach near hilo. It is estimated that about seven hundred and fifty of these bottles were tossed into the ocean between nineteen eighty four and nineteen eighty five. The last time one was found was in two thousand and two on kake. Jima island overall. The bottles have been found in seventeen. Different locations including okinawa the philippines china and even the west coast of the united states. I just get fascinated by these stories and often wonder just how many messages in bottles are out there in the ocean now. Last week we got an email from the clearly clearly came in resorts and it wasn't good. News clearly came in resorts include cobalt coast on grand cayman. Little came beach resort and cayman. Brac beach resort. The news informed us that the cayman borders will remain closed until two thousand twenty two. Now that's tough at a recent press conference to premier indicated that phase. Three of the original plan will start sometime. In february given the rise in cove in nineteen cases the resorts are now planning on opening on february. Fifth two thousand twenty two. Now this has been a really tough situation. If you remember way back in april i reported that the plan was to open in late april or early may two thousand and twenty one. It's been a long and difficult road for a lot of places. Surely the caymans are feeling abroad. We hope it gets resolved before october. Twenty twenty two trip yet. That on certain there's been a great deal of communication coming from tom. Ingram the president and ceo of dima the dive equipment marketing association regarding the two thousand twenty one show in las vegas. Tom unequivocal be states. That the show has absolutely no plans. Of cancelling now they did indicate that accordance with the local health mandates. Everyone will be required to wear a mask on the exhibit floor. There are several large past exhibitors. Who are forgoing the show this year causing some to question whether it should even take place. I know we've been getting a lot of surveys from our vendors as to whether we plan to go or not right now matt and i will be there. Tom indicated that it would be extremely difficult to cancel at this late date. Given the contracts that are in place and that if it were cancelled it would seriously impact demon's ability to put on these shows in the future. So we're looking forward to a successful show this year out in las vegas and finally today. I wanna talk about a piece of underwater camera gear that you might just want to consider. There was an article from sport diver magazine by john widow titled great camera accessories for underwater photography. It was a scuba lab review of the products that the staff took diving at alexander springs in central florida. First on the list was a sea life. Sport diver smartphone housing. Now that's pretty cool. I can remember my first. Underwater camera was sealife. Reef master with a whopping three mega pixels now. This housing will fit a number of iphones and android smartphones. The housing is bluetooth enabled and his rate it to one hundred and thirty feet. The sea life sport diver smartphone. Housing comes with a vacuum seal and duly alarms when you purchase the housing. You'll get a free app that will give you access to most of your phones. Usual camera functions also included is a red filter. And if that's not enough to housing allows you to put in those sealife life color changing moisture. Munchers he i remember those now. The housing isn't cheap. It retails for two hundred ninety nine dollars and ninety five cents. Us but if you wanna travel light and still get some great underwater shots of your adventures check out the c. Life sport diver smartphone housing at sea. Life fash cameras dot com. Well that's it for this edition of wet notes here on scuba shack radio.

How Men Are Also Being Saved by Wipe Every Tear's Work in the Sex Trade

"Let me tell you to more instances that i wrote about that have just wrecked me. They're still with me so the first couple of days really the first day two days as you're now having your heartbroken for the girls you hate the men you see. These sloppy overweight pass middle aged men in the natural. I wanna i wanna to them. What they're doing large man dressed messily holding hands with a petite diminutive little philippine. And you're like that's disgusting. And one of the guys on our. He was a past or one of the guys on our trip. The i want to punch that guy out. of course. yes what can he taught me. That's kind of the normal natural response. That's the flesh lee response. That's not god's response. I don't think but it you know. Let's acknowledge it. When you see that what are you gonna think and kenny taught me. Yeah you can't love the girls and hate the men because the kingdom doesn't work that way these girls are in a prison and so are the men. it's just a different cell. Their only state and can set up a kingdom. Or everybody's miserable. The mama san's the bar owners the bartenders the patrons everybody's miserable so once you see that now my heart is moved is much towards this girl towards this man. Imagine having a bunch of guys at the table next to you in the bar and you buy them around drinks guys were from. What are you doing. And and they'll tend to brag about their exploits and then they go. What are you doing here and you get to say well. We're here getting girls out. Because god has created them for something so much greater one man who heard this. We explained to sit. We're not we're not wagging the finger. How could you do. You have a daughter what it's none of that we're here to bring them to. Jesus this is the life. Jesus watch for them. One man he reach into his pocket he plunked down a big wad cash and he walked out and my friend walked out after him and with tears us at the front of the bar telling the men is. They're walking by. I can't do this anymore. I can't do this any more. Eric that's revival. That's when we say revival in the sex trade men's hearts are being broken just by us being there so the men are getting rescued

Landlords Look For an Exit Amid Federal Eviction Moratorium

"Fuming over the decision by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, too. Issue a new eviction moratorium lasting until October. 3rd especially smaller landlords. They say they've suffered financially due to various state and local federal moratorium in place since last year. Many are falling behind on their own bills and racking up debt, while others are selling off properties are holding off on renting to new tenants. Gary Zaremba has responded to the long running eviction moratorium by selling off dozens of his properties, He told The Associated Press. He still has a quarter of tenants struggling to pay rent, and he's owed $30,000. In back rent. Without rent. We're out of business. It's like a restaurant that does that patrons. I don't get the rent. I can't pay my maintenance staff. I have to lay them off. I can't fix the buildings and keep them in good repair. That means they're going to get even worse off. I can't pay my taxes well, the eviction moratorium. I understand why the government doesn't want people evicted and landing on the streets. For public policy. It's not good for anyone, but you're asking me as a private sector landlord to provide public or free housing because it's not my role. My role is to supply house and get paid for it. And if you're preventing me from evicting someone for not paying their rent, then you're asking me to be subsidized housing. So when a small landlord is not looked at as part of the calculus of this, then they get hurt as well to their abilities to keep their family afloat. So look at all pieces of the puzzle when passing policies. They also argue the trends that could make things difficult for low income families who could find fewer units available on landlords less willing to rent to those who weren't able to pay rent during the moratorium. The Importance of Providing Quality Customer Service to Your Patrons

"You are doing the car wash. It was called prime car wash. The experience was a prime experience. Like your wife wanted where she could sit down with coffee not felix just to get away from there until they work it out. What else came in with the playbook what made it work The really the the customer service. I mean we. We wanted everybody to come in and feel like they were at a country club so the membership allows us to learn a lot of things about our member base and the other thing great about the member base is the cars. Were always clean so it wasn't like you had to spend a tremendous amount of time cleaning their cars so the rest of the time. You're just giving them white clubs glove service you. We knew their kids names. That was on the computer when they checked in soon as their car came in they were still in the car going through the tunnel but we knew they were going to be coming through the door. So the second andrew walks through the door where like andrew good to see you. You know how we're going so it's really just that personal touch. People were not expecting from a car wash and that does art. Andrew is to to be able to welcome him. Well if you're a member then we scan you as soon as you come in. I got it. And so the scan tells you who who i am and then i guess on the computer system. It says something about me from last time. is that right. That's right that's what you said. you know. The other difference is when you get in some of the great companies chick-fil-a being the first one that comes to mind when you take time to teach a sixteen year old kid what it is to give customer service meaning. We would get them out of the car. Wash like when you're at the car wash your in it and it's kind of the grind of the day and stuff so what we would do. Once we close down or even closed the car wash for a day we would take them. Give them classroom training and it was. We would literally sit them in a classroom and give them the attention that they needed to understand what it is to give what we called aggressive hospitality It's to be over overly Engaged in all customers. "Talk to us a little bit about our zero. What is it that you guys are doing. how are you adding value to the healthcare ecosystem. Yes so it was almost sixteen months ago. Now with the academic. I started a a ticket hold. I got in touch with the two mentors in mind. Both entrepreneurs who i've known for about a decade and the three of us started talking about how there's certain events throughout history that just create everlasting societal and infrastructural changes in a dork way. We kinda like in what was happening of the pandemic to nine eleven. How after nine eleven. We have the department of homeland security. You have. tsa fourteen thousand agents. You still can't take a water bottle of where shoes through the airport. You go to a ballgame. You walk through a metal detector. These are all new standards that were created and adopted post nine eleven in some of these psychological star tissue after that event accelerated decrease adoption of those standards. But we never arrest fundamentally the world took on a new posture around security in all shared spaces at our thesis. Fear was at this event of the pandemic was going to broaden that word security to biosecurity to biosafety and in the standards that all organizations are gonna fold as they regard a human health in the safety of their staff their patrons of their communities at large so what we did. Kind of unpacking the disinfection industry. And we've learned quickly that this is a massive industry. Hundreds of billions of dollars market cap governed by these goliath players. Ecolab clorox se. johnson diversey. All of these companies are extremely old. Some over a hundred years old and more or less all pushing commodity chemicals and our response to the pandemic was to go around and host buildings down the chemicals. And that's what we did in. This industry has not evolved with the technology that is becoming become commonplace in almost every other industry. It's extremely antiquated in what we're doing with chemicals. I mean there's there's a lot of limitations there one is. They're not always that effective. There's a lot of human error and how they're applied there's a massive labor cost a massive op ex chemical costs at. It's horrible for the environment. So we got in touch with. Dr richard wade and dr wade actually ran cal osha for fifteen years. He taught at harvard oxford. Uc irvine. We like to call him. The michael jordan's disinfection. He's he's forgotten more about this industry than most of us will ever learn. And he's quite special but he let us on a study to really understand. Movie Musical 'Annette' Is a Straightforward Story yet a Directorial Fever Dream

"Opera. Annette got this year's Cannes Film Festival off to a boisterous start. The crowd gave a full five minute ovation for stars Adam Driver and Marianne Cockatiel, also for the band Sparks, which composed the music. Our critic Bob Mondello, says that the festival audience going crazy kind of make sense because the film itself is kind of deranged. Before there's anything to look at on screen and there will be astonishing things to look at. We hear the voice of director Leos Carax telling us that he intends what we are about to see to be literally breath taking. Breathing will not be tolerated during the shell. So please take a deep last breath right now. Thank you, And then he gathers his cast. So may we start and they sing their way out of the recording studio. So may we start and into the streets of Los Angeles to start a story of odd couple, Henry and Anne entertainers of radically different temperaments. Henry calls himself the shape of God and stops the comedy club stage. I'm here to make you laugh tonight. A green hooded bathrobe, scowling and muttering at his audience. Yes, laugh laugh. Wow, I'm not sure I can do it tonight. I'm not sure I should. Even trying Making people laugh is, uh, disgusting. He means that alienating paying customers is his stick and has played almost psychotically by Adam Driver. Henry is good enough it insulting patrons. It's amazing. He still has any. "You're required to show proof of vaccination in order to live your life normally. What does that mean for you. That to me has a big impact and in new york city. The mayor de blasio made a big announcement yesterday and not only is this going to impact the millions and millions of people who live and work and play in new york but to blasios is calling on other cities around america to follow suit so today announced a new approach which were calling the key to nyc. Pass the key to new york city when you hear those words. I want you to imagine the notion that because someone's vaccinated. They can do all the amazing things that are available in the city. This is a miraculous place for literally. Full of wonders. And if you're vaccinated all that's gonna open up to you. You'll have the key you can open the door but if you're unvaccinated unfortunately you will not be able to participate many things. That's the point we're trying to get across. It's time for people to see vaccination as literally necessary to living a good and full and healthy life. It's a beautiful city miraculous city. There great restaurants theater pro sports museums bars. But in order to go to any of it. You gotta have the key. You gotta have the magic key. And some of them more aggressive. People probably did follow someone out to get the car. However lot of people get rental cars so we put a license plate number in there that would trigger every time and it would never be the person they put in their second. We expanded the license plate recognition to other departments who had put a license plate in with no description at all of why that license plate was in there. So we'd get a trigger and have no idea who had just arrived on property eventually the amount of data and the gone in there was absolutely worthless and Definitely not at the last place i worked was even used Aria had it's i don't know how much emphasis they still put into it. But really especially if it's just a card counter or a cheat. Maybe someone who had stolen from somebody. Definitely we do extra legwork but for simple advantage play. I didn't think it was worth the effort. If that happened like say it was cheat and you put the license plate in if that car showed up in the lot. Would it alerts somebody if you put it in the l. Pure you drive past camera on the entry way into the parking garage and in pick up the license plate number an alert that this car had arrived and then unfortunately you needed the dow to tell you something once. That alert came up instead. this license plate arrived you would then have to search watered that license plate mean to me and if it wasn't say in a person subject file you had no one to match up to if there were no notes there you just had an alert off and on great. This is here Lot of times they would throw throw everybody in there Security department throw hookers in there. undesirables slot checkers if they had a car where they were thrown in there and slot checkers and the ones that go around looking for abandoned credits picking up tito's left at machines and cashing the mountain departing property onto the next place to do the thing everybody would go in there and eventually became useless. All right

"Horn to walk up in the background and mountain goats to the prancing. Along it's gorgeous. You know snowcapped peaks. You expect to go skiing afterwards The options for the further rapids are not many There there or there. You have to be extra creative so we also don't have. Brian galvin although. I don't know that a guy who hasn't gotten off the bench much in the last couple years would have been a likely alternative but he is a central midfielder or listed at least as a midfielder in this roster You've got nicholas mosquito. But mesquita is doesn't have a track record of being much of a defensive presence but you know a four three three with mezquida and bassett backed by price. I think is possible and makes more sense than the other kind of possibilities that you bring. You can bring up the other possibility that you bring a defensive. As sorry a wide Forward type player into a more central role or you play them out on the wing as kind of like a more withdrawn forward and you still call it a four three three. So you'd start. Jonathan lewis as a quote unquote midfielder. But you tell john lewis. Stay on the left side or stay on the right side. You know flow wide and do that. That's a possibility. I think we can discount the possibility of maiocco being recalled because he didn't start for the switch backs so right now he's not rating at the us l. level. I think the learning curve is pretty high and he's gonna have to kind of come around and get a lot more in. I would love to see him. But it's very clear from the from the coaching staff that he doesn't rate the other final possibility all throughout their although i think it unlikely but i think anything is possible or it could look like this on paper but kind of actually wind up playing like a four. Three three is to go with an old school for for two And that gives you the the situation where you get price and bassett in the mid. Feels you realistically put jonathan lewis on one side and and us on the other. Then you go up top with Maybe rubio and shinyashiki or maybe rubio and venezia And then i give you a lot of options now. It's a kind of a crazy lineup. Because realistically what you're doing is starting four wide midfielders or three wide midfielders. Who aren't you know. Really no one who's operating a forward but you know one of the things that we talk about a lot on this podcast is formation is shorthand. It doesn't necessarily you know formations actually changed from phase to phase. Sometimes when you move the ball you start the ball in a five three two when you get to the midfield. It looks like a three four three Then when you transition defense you're pressing so it looks for three three and then when the ball crosses midfield dropped back into what looks more like eight four four two like again. Formation is shorthand. I could see that being the case the one thing that of course we just learned in l. afc is the rapids looked overrun in the midfield. In the first half with effectively only two midfielders afraid of doing that again against fc dallas but fc dallas is not as good as l. afc. So i spent a lot of words. Some of that might have made sense at the end of the day. I think you're most likely you're mike choice. My best option would be to go with that four. Four two with all the with all the wide midfielders in the universe going avengers style Kind of like wild at the final scene in in game but I would not discount the possibility of it being mosquito. Bassett and price not yet any rebuttal or response to any of that guy that i coughed up. I would say then to answer your question directly. Rick rama's set by the well-defined defined multiple choice options that you have in rabbi saying that it was going to be priced bassett and mosquito. That would be option number one super aggressive so i think we can anticipate the rapids being on the front foot. And it'll be a sam vines. Banger that leads to a three one victory for fc dallas. Irish said that. I've got two one win in this one. Mark got a prediction. I like your prediction. I take it down a notch. I i don't. I don't often predict like go fasts. i don't think i ever have. I swear to god the most common thing i say on this podcast is. We're going to win two to nothing we're gonna draw one to one or we're gonna lose to nothing And i think we're gonna win this one to nothing so right in the spirit of the new trail heads scarf then onward victory in the case of the rapids and this which backs in that context mark tell our listeners about accuracy and neck scarves you know. "Of the season. But this team. That isn't playing right now. Well right now mark and if the rapids can hold frankel hara given how or the performance as if the rapids bounced back progress back to your mean i would expect the rapids to get a result in this one. I think a one nil or two one to the rapids is the most likely outcome. Assuming that they're able to bounce back from the performance kuensel. afc mark. what did you look upper. Any other thoughts. I mean i think you covered it really well. You're you're on fire this week. My man I think i think understanding franco are as the the pressure. Being on is is a really important point That was worth noting implying most games in the midfield. I haven't really figured out what they want him to be. I mean he's. I've seen him come on in relief in the previous season last year As like a pure number eight kind of mixing it up both ways. But i've also seen him this year kind of being lined up as a number six. And i don't know i haven't seen him really do much yet I remember in the game against the rapids. I kept watching for him. Because he's the next young star on the team And he was highly touted last year. As a you know a player who is likely going to be on the us olympic team. That was going to go to tokyo with you. Twenty three's before of course as the hallways do you twenty three crash out of the mcafee qualifying for the olympics But i just don't see. I haven't seen tasman kind of clicking. The last thing i'll say is to your point about ryan ryan hollingshead I made a comment about how Last week about how sam vines was playing the position of leftback. Like nobody else. I've ever seen that. you know. Agricultural played high as left back in like overlap but he stayed on the left side You know sam. Vines comes inside in ways that are really surprising. Pops up all kinds of ways for those of you who read our subject article you don't need to recount it in in minutia and detail but a really astute reader pointed up at ryan's plays the position fairly similarly for se. Dallas that he he is kind of a free roaming leftback and he will come centrally and he will kind of use that you call a utility guy which is really interesting because you did find him as utility guy kind of like all they could plug them in as a defensive midfielder they could play as a centre back but sometimes leftback he plays like a utility player during the game meaning he will float into the position that a defensive midfielder will take so one of the things that happens with the rapids. And i'm thinking this is like se dallas is like the bizarro rapids in this case. One of the things you see with the rapids frequently in the first couple of games not against l. Afc was safin's come high or sampans will come high end internally. He'll be playing centrally and in in the event of the rapids are going to lose the ball in transition. The guy who's tasked with floating back to playing where he used to be is usually jack kreis meaning the jack crisis defensive midfielder who fills in at left back when need be and and ryan hollingshead is almost the opposite of fat right. He's a left back. Who plays up like a defensive. Midfielder surround a lottery games. that's the thing to kind of watch. I don't know tactically if that's an exciting Wrinkle but it's a thing that you kind of have to mark right. It means that kellyn acosta has to pay attention to the left back because he's gonna wind up in places on the field where you wouldn't normally expect left-back but you're going to have to account for him. So that's that's my big speaking of carolina kosta having to account for matt hedges. Kellyn acosta will not be able to account for matt hedges as he will be with the us men's national team who have a friendly against switzerland and then kellyanne obviously we returning back to the mile high city or the nations league semifinal. This coming thursday be covering and are the aforementioned babak. Marcus we just found out. We'll be providing photos for that and hopefully on the final on sunday the that'll be the us against mexico that'll be domestic match best matchup option for the nations league as far as i'm concerned but so with him being out we have an ask h. h. l. from ramos as hashtag ask h. g. h. l. with a cost of gone for the twenty ninth game against dallas. What will the rapids midfielder. Look like one. I guess this is a multiple choice question here. Mark zone out one super aggressive price facet and nominally slashing skida. Not sure if that's a question about nominees availability or maybe it's not only starting in the skied up something in any case option to defensive warner price and bassett slash nominally. Orca reserve price occur recalled from the switch backs in bassett slashed nominally without kellyn acosta mark. Van the mobile. He does things in the midfield in terms of finding the game being whatever the what needs finding space creating space out in terms of defensive thinks he is a midfielder just in the context of the midfield in the same way that sam vines and ryan hollingshead in the context of the greater team. Just go find the game at our whatever it needs an at times. They are outside wingers at times. They are inside in the midfield at times. They are defenders staying at home or being outlet to relieve pressure. And so dealing with the with ryan hollingshead been bizarro sam vines for the czar rapids t that is ryan hollingshead. What does what does robin fraser do. Personnel wise without the perfect foil in kalmyk costas who knows ryan hollingshead having played with and against him for fc dallas in the absence of him who steps into that role. And how does that affect the midfield. And how rapid negate what dallas is going to do on saturday. It's it's harder to predict them. Our faithful listener suggests because as you know matt units nominee has been out with injury for the last couple of games. So that's a question that we also have to ask. Is nam nominally. Going to be back. Have you heard anything from training about where he's at and what's going on with him last. I heard that it was questionable. He was dealing. He was in and out of training. That's what we heard last week from robin frazier Will be speaking to him tomorrow. So maybe this'll be obsolete. By the time you hear it folks go to my twitter feed But what were you should be getting an update. But i'm not sure right now mark. It's a it's a valid question. I think the biggest question mark we have in terms of availability of players. Who could be useful would be nominally. I think the simplest thing would just be have cold basset in and do similar.

kellyn acosta Kellyn acosta Marcus carolina kosta tomorrow robin frazier sam vines Last week saturday robin fraser ryan last week ryan ryan hollingshead last year switzerland this year two kellyanne this week frankel hara

"Is so we're out off. This was awesome man. Thank you very much time. Rabbi are probably recording tonight. Which means dropping tomorrow will tag you on twitter. Of course i'll probably if any of the stuff that we talk about ends up getting published by van probably include the show as well. Thank you just welcome back listeners. To holding the high line with rabbi and read my name is matt pollard. I'm joined once again by rabbi. Marc goodman coming saturday at dick's sporting goods park in commerce city colorado the colorado rapids will be taking on. Fc dallas the we are currently six thirty. Four th through the twenty twenty one colorado rapids. Emily season they find themselves in fifth in the western conference. They have ten points off of six games. Played with a record of three two and one last off They have plus one goal differential and their record at home is you wins and one loss they will be taking. Fc dallas who currently find themselves last in the western conference thirteenth. They have six points off of six games. Played they have one win which came against. Acl depleted portland. Timbers at home and they also have two losses and three draws they have a goal differential of zero and away from frisco texas they have one win and three ties. Mark thoughts on fc dallas now. Well we already played them. And i think from for dallas. It's a little bit of. Who is the team in. What is their identity in the host departure. Some of their really really talented Youth players who've gone off to europe so brian reynolds has gone back a little bit further. You get ready candidate. Who's gone Paxton pomme call hasn't really shown up on the season yet. He's i think he's played some minutes but he hasn't started And i think he's they're either bringing back slowly from a hip injury or he slowly being displaced by other players. You know they've underperformed expectations. Additionally my favorite statistic of is the goals added statistic that american soccer analysis created and has been using to kind of evaluate. How where goals come from like. Where do babies come from. Daddy where you goals come from. And they would point out that for for a team. Se dallas is thirteenth in the league in goals added with Seven point seven five and seven point one three goals added against means that their overall goals at differential is what they're thirteen thin is point six two which is above average. It means that they should have A better than average win record. But as you recounted in there being dead last in the western conference is clearly not the case. So you know that. We're still early in the math. Which means that. The sample size is small enough. That we're not entirely sure that Goals added can really tell us a full picture here. But what i'm saying is they're better than their Their results would imply they should be pretty decent team And they're probably underperforming expectation by goal. Here there if i'm not mistaken i'm going to look this up while you're talking that but i think they're all their games have been close and the games they've lost have been like one goal losses that is correct the only game that was really a blow out one way or the other was their four one victory against portland timbers who were coming off the back of a game so i say from an early. Mls standpoint decent home team that made the playoffs last year. Playing mls team that was on the road in see all the previous week A scheduled win or get a scheduled loss for that cc. L. team is what gregg popovich would have described that for timbers. You know. I think it's really curious mark because you know i kind of look at the if we look at the the home opener for dallas. Which was the nil. Nil draw against the rapids. Frankel didn't particularly play well. I'm not sure tunes. All is fully committed to the three four to one as they're calling it on paper. You know john. Arlecchino talked about how it's going to be a little bit of a slow transition and so unlike some of the other teams like who's really settled in seattle whose come out flying out of the gates in their new three-man back line. Dallas is kind of a work in progress in their figuring out and they're also trying to march they're also trying to balance out the need to pick up results needed pickup points. Because we're teen that wants to make the playoffs with a radical tactical transition is journal mentioned of having three really good sooner backs. They're trying to get on the field and play out of the back. And what does that look like. In terms of the back. Line in terms of the midfield. And how do they gradually more towards that in long-term while also being a functional team right now that can pick up points. And when you combine that with frank o'hara who was there really big acquisition as we found out a couple of weeks ago from the analyst. Va he's the highest paid player on fc dallas. He's the third highest paid player in the southwestern western conference with a guaranteed compensation just under three million dollars and the other two players the two big mexican stars in these for the southern california teams. And he's got one goal. This season and it was a penalty last week against ourselves. So i don't know where the goals were coming from at this point from this team i think prankul hara is starting to heat up a little bit the golden star cell. He misses before that. Both of those kings ncaa games came in the aftermath of the mls pa releasing the roster announcements and obviously fcd twitter kind of reacted to. Oh my god. Horus making three million dollars in the next highest paid players matt hedges. Who's making just over a million. You say what you will mark about. How fans reacted to nabi being confirmed as the highest paid player. If we found out that nominally was getting almost three times more than the next is flight rapids mayor than you know. The the vitriol towards him would have been even more significant. So is he a player. Who's starting to heat up in response to him fitting in a little bit. Better with seem may be conveniently. Overlapping with when the roster salary were announced. But i questioned where the goals coming from if the rapids. Come out back in the four. Three and are solid defensively. And danny wilson does a number on hora just like he did a couple of weeks ago against lucas cavalier. Any i think it's going to be really really hard for this team. Disor goals i guess the other wildcard from a tactical standpoint who has human the rapids trouble and has proved to be a really really good player is ryan hollingshead. Who's kind of been their main utility man. He's been outside back. He's been a wing back when they've played with back five or the vacuum and everything in so juxtaposing him against keegan rosenberg with hauling ten mostly playing on the left and the heat and obviously be on the right and them to overlapping ethic is going to be really interesting battle. A to give rosemary has one of his. You know top will say ninetieth percentile defensive games. I think the rapids could get something out of that. Game against l. Afc with rosen. Berry doing a better job. In terms of tightly marking diego rossi. What that looks like in terms of far guests the winger and everything vis-a-vis with ryan hollingshead going for a little bit more. Maybe being an outlet not necessarily in the same way that sam vines is in that hollingshead isn't gonna blaze you away with speed and everything. But he's very title on the ball. He's very smart. He makes a decision. Could it be an outlet to get the ball and ping into somebody else in the midfield given the state of the dallas midfield. As john mentioned in no the enemy i think is going to be an interesting tactical wrinkle and could be a key component to dallas getting things forward in this one but as we've seen historically a from this fixture whichever the away team use whichever the coach comes in. Usually the defending team comes in bunkers parks. The bus little bit is okay to go on the counter and his happy to get out of their withdrawal. Dallas will do that in the same way. That robin fraser did at the opening game.

"In. You know who is a young coach. He's been around molest long enough to know. It's gonna come back to bite you if you don't start making up those chords pretty quickly. He said this week he said today. wednesday were recording. That they have to start thinking about road matches as opportunity to get all three points. So i actually kinda take him as working with some coaches in amyloidosis. Say that in go out are clearly playing for a draw that that's not him I think they're probably going to be a little more aggressive than navy. Teams usually go out on the road. Because i think they are in this moment where especially international break. They feel a bit of desperation to have mentality the mood. You know those intangibles that we probably make too much of a sports writers. I think they feel a bit of urgency to get those growing right direction ahead of this break players. Not sean the new edition gary. He's trying to make the anger euro squad. Brian athletes resolve you. You're gonna have some guys leaving. It's going to be a different setup like i said My come back. It'll be fascinating to see a health out national break. But i think they wanna go on with good vibes because of our great right. Now the move is not amazing. Think mo ryan hans had said. It's too early to panic. And he says like sound alarms crazy but at the same time the expectations to release. Make the playoffs. And right now. They're sitting last in the western conference so they definitely have to change something if they don't want this to be away from all over. We hit the record button listeners. In apparently john was actually at emily's cup in toronto. So unison swear you know san and a half years off of that john any fun stories from that evening and you probably typing with frostbitten fingers. You wanna recount now. Yeah i actually to come fully clean. I don't like to talk about this that much because nama journalists. I'm very serious. This message of journalism where you're not artisan even when our college. I'm a proud texas tech red raider but in college. I wasn't proud. Because i didn't want to be seen as a cheerleader journalists Basically saying. I probably took myself too seriously i. I grew up as a soccer lover in for worth dallas. Fort worth. joe myself Fc dallas games driver's license. It's not easy because it's a long trip. You gotta pay your tolls as a high schooler. That that's takes chunk out of your budget now but So i win as a fan. I went as a as a supporter. I was playing drums in support of section during the during the final so frostbitten singers Yeah i'd gone memories of the trip. We a bunch of sources are so last minute. I don't know you know. I'm sure rapid series of the ninety nine heads like basically found out like four days before that like. Oh your teams in cup. Get there get to toronto. So bunch of again being in college at the time didn't have a huge budgets. A bunch of the flute of buffalo took a bus to toronto. Did the couch surfing thing. Bummed around ended up staying with a rep supported who i ran into all right in. It's like the classic sort of like soccer vomit story but it was a great time in didn't go the way we wanted to but Also what a weird moment in history like that can be the final in the documentary about. Mls two point. Oh of ken burns as mls documentary at the end of his second episode. That can be the final chapter because it's two teams that with love. We have to say not as many people care about his cam on a lot of other teams. It's a neutral site final which they don't do anymore in part because of that game icy like because it was cold it was miserable trump fans care about se dolls colorado and not that many people travel because it was so late. And it's not the big fan base is anyways so i feel like that's probably like strange book to an era in molest In an era that we live so that was a good time noah no hard feelings toward the rapids fans books. Maybe aren't feeling so the players amount school okay I guess one fault. That i have with john so listeners. I promise the memories from toronto series will working on it. It's happening sometime. This year hopefully sar watched the full. Espn broadcast have a badge. John was there a guy in oursel- jacket sitting with the with the dow supporters. You remember this at all i. It's not ringing a bell but that's not to say didn't happen i would say you know this is a moment again in. Mls where like. I met arrives fan at the bar like you just went analyst cup as nameless fan and then you just probably rupture team. I don't know. I could see that being one of the like fan alliances or something like that whereas i love rss. I'm going to support ourselves. Batmans colorado okay. So there's so there's a shot that you shot that happens during the broadcast. I believe it's the second half of regular minute shows. Clearly the dowell section. There is drama in the background. Not sure whether or not they uniform in honor at that time and it looks like reading blue but if you zoom in it has the adidas the three stripes and it's gold which may keeping and it's not quite the dallas threaten Would have had. But we don't see this individual turnaround to see if there's a crest or any writing or anything so that's something that i was curious but in any case that'll you'll have to be a mystery unless we find that refs fan who has better idea in any case john. Thank you very much for your time last week. Question that i have for you Predictions how do you think saturday night. Hands out You know as much as i. I think dallas is going to go. I think they will but because of that. I think we see like babe scoring drop like a tutu in just like this past weekend rusty dolls. I think i think they go for. I think they have some new this weekend in light had trouble creating chances this weekend that create a chances in trouble actually firing shots have some of this week they fire shots does seem like thousands on the cost for being better team the show the first several weeks but that said colorado's time in the same boat where yeah they're in the playoff spots nothing wrong with doing so far think movement as well especially young group so in the scoring draw listeners. John is an absolute must. Follow for american soccer. Any your calf region. So if you're not following in your rectify that by going to ask arnold palmer on twitter. Co a in the middle. They're not calm. I don't think you can actually have a calm in your twitter handle and then no h in john. John you have a lot of irons in the fire. Is there anything particularly like to shout out. Texas striker related or otherwise strengthen. Sex is a good is a good Subscription i honestly. I'm not sure the prices but you know like we really do. Cover the mls teams. Obviously this year especially the unbalanced schedule will be playing all texas easily playing colorado. Quite a bit. We're also doing a bunch of gold cup coverage of the national team. "Wanna do work. He does too much defensive work sometimes in that rapid singles very very good example in that first game. We're playing right back. Because there were three defenders he drops drops drops drops drops looks to the bomb. Picks up the ball not in the final third in colorado's funnel playmakers going to be effective. So they've done. They've tried to get recarpet higher. That tried to get into state and and be a little more moved to the forwards forward by our. that's another issue are s. He also drops. I think both of those guys. They are intuitive and smart players from their experience from their time with you know in this case in south america in hottest case in europe in mexico sums up in a way. You almost need to forget those lessons and forget your instincts to drop to try and find the ball and just stick with assistant because sometimes mls it works out that even if things are perfect you are able to Execute the idea that coach wants to buy sort of staying my going in the right position and executing the press in the way that laws once. It's happened because when these guys drops sleep prosecutes camera muddled and that's one of the most important parts of analysis system at least in. They don't have a ball is so i think tactically. I wouldn't be surprised if they fall into a rhythm of a four three three or even four to three one looking seem depending on how you want brand ricard biz during it also depends bamako's fully fit is heating ninety minutes that also changes things. He hasn't been able to do that yet. Haven't gone down from the start yet. So there's a lot of moving parts. I think that i would be surprised if the don't settle into something an identity something consistent. You're in the next couple weeks especially after the national break. And maybe they already have a wouldn't be stunk to see one of these center basket benched nutritional back for for the foreseeable speaking of midfielders mentioned paxon comical various than brian across the unintended Had been moments but obviously still has some learning to do. And so i think you know looking back into the midfield especially given the not meteoric but certainly calendar kosta working his way back into national relevance and certainly being very very good with the rapids is kind of a one perspective. On where the se. Douse midfield ends. But also kind of in the context of you know. I think it. I don't know if i want to call it force but clearly wasn't happy with the amount of playing time that he was getting at the time. And i don't really fit into a skill set any came in wearing the number ten shirt or colorado rapids. I think rapids fans kinda thought that he was going to be something that he ended up. Not being he sends changed his number away from the number of ten for this season and is really fit into kinda tidy rolled fits him but is well defined in that midfield great. What is the fc dallas. Midfield right now with pasta costume in hindsight. Was that the best move for all parties given when callum anthony. I have a midfield where which gonzales loves. Its way midfield player like you know like i'm saying is ideal set up. I will be a four three three two eight. Two two two way midfielders in encana. Do a little bit of everything. Austin tests on both of that bill so to So too does paxton comical. So kudos brandon's romania. I is it really is not opposition issue. But i think the fact that tested starting despite the fact that there are other options in the sec. Dallas system Speaks to the fact that he's coming on strong. I think he like Veneta benefited from time spent with the both a senior team. Usa qualification seem. This offseason came in really fit him in ready to play. And naturally Didn't start that first game against the rapids within went straight into the starting lineup against quakes in week two. Hasn't relinquished starting. Will cost brian costume. International desertion credit. Here's wealth because he had maybe are not made any difficulties last year. Sweden injuries does not performing well is first season in. Dallas was not spectacular. Another other designated player. Who say around a little bit more than this year. I think he's been with at one has been good recovery from passing and i think is her has given test when a bit of a security blanket away because test will knows if he gives up costs there and the center baxter there. But you've absolutely tests would be the best. You twenty twenty three. Whatever players in a melissa farley season partly because of a few you twenty getting minutes but also just because tidy work done a good job. I think that we will talk about the glove to a midfielders. The fact that they were willing to the cost of like they were Makes sense. I talked to callan before the first game about how he feels about dallas. And i think he's of course has a lot of love here maybe has some bittersweet certainly used the word bittersweet accident or call arm feels about leaving at the time there was a line going on the dallas on an off the field and i think our callan you know it was the right move for everyone. I think to get him. Some fresh air from the afc dallas perspective. They ended up with. Tom dodgy who they've pretty much slipped right after almost. If calloway nothing i do wonder a different way caps on the cell on which is now expired. Like that ever was really gonna go where i know. He still has aspirations the navy europe at some point. It's going to see him back in the national team. I mean i think. I speak for most people involved in dallas soccer like i like singing do while i like the guy you normally think wanted w hasn't the masato no i think it was the right. Move to give them some fresh air and i think it's good to see him move on. Would he be holding on a starting spot if that trade at an apple off to say but certainly possible but at the same time. I think that there are very few people in the afc Fans recite we really blow. There should have kept challenges. Because i think it was the moment venue since he was thirteen. Or something like that. So it's almost a decade with the same club. And i think at a certain point either move on or or stagnating i think he was stagnant and i think the club fell. That's how the club sold. At least maybe away but i think that's how the people around the club laptop to and most of those people are gone As well from esi dolls but they felt like it was the time you know and and i think it's worked out for everyone so whenever it can work out successful trade. I guess i've been a little hannah. Prints uses to recent form of dallas obviously looked back to the beginning of the monk. Bad for would win over portland at home for the time in struggling against club. America you have. I feel like every single. Correct me if i'm wrong. John but i feel like looking from afar. Every single texas derby between houston dallas ends up being a one one. Draw wrong there At a top loss against minnesota i think given the way the weight and it ourselves been chaos in a very analysts kind. Of what do you make of the current form of this team you know. Are they like historically every time way the awaits in comes in and says we're gonna bunker. We're going to sit back and we're going to be having to draw. And i feel like that's what we're setting up for dallas friday on saturday. Maybe but i think they also realize that they're in last place in the western conference that some of the games including the game against colorado including the game last week against rail salt lake even that game in minnesota where they got zero points they should have done more points. They should have two more points from that. Colorado drama should have two more memory all salt lake job. It should have one more point from that minnesota loss. And i think you know it's a team that has enough veterans.

"Money right so now they sign all the young players a lot of peng good but hell out of them. Don't come you know quickly enough or or long enough. Facebook help will start seeing. So where's the first thing. That is a great question. One that i think fans trying to wrap their head around and look like a club i think similarly to the rapids hasn't difficulties marketing in the market that seemingly should love the sport does love. The sport fills up stadium serve. Us mexico games. The nations league is going to be a great event in denver. The people absolutely going to be bonkers for the rapids aren't able to straddle across the exact same way mexico's here this weekend. And in fact i'm not going to be this colorado because i'll be without three stadiums befall. It's going to be a great event and yet fans necessarily shocking crystal games but it's up market the product because the product is well. It's kind of the best players we could produce from dallas but at the same time. A lot of those guys are garner now. We didn't sign any big names. It's maybe some some hardworking american board smarter viewpoints marketplaces. So you have this team that. The identity is producing players but does that translate into lang identity. Does that translate to a real you know. Does that translate to something. We're on the field excited. They made it work in the past. The biggest issue houses that they saw players. But it certainly a big question in a lot of different ways. Like a what's going on here because the twitter bio against a lot of attention like our kademi is better than us. That's the bio. Who wouldn't it be nice if there was a trophy emoji in that violet said you know. Mls cup champions. It's never happened breasts. Nelson moses nineteen ninety cents. So i think you know picture it is. It's strange because it's not. I asks where they produce players in one tiles ports over sporting or or ben figo produce players online title does not even pachuca Where that produce players entitles. They've had three trophies in their history. So i i wonder if they're navy some pressure off shift focus at some point but right now despite the fact that the ownership says every dollar for instance the ryan reynolds is being plunged back into the club. A lotta times. It seems like it's being plunged back into the academy to have great coaches her great players than also get sold frank. O'hara finally gets. His first goal of the season was a penalty on the weekend. We did A couple of weeks ago. Now got the salary. Gump from the emc. Frank o'hara has a guaranteed compensation of just under three million dollars that would put him in the top fifteen in and if we're comparing just the western conference. Obviously it's the big mexican stars in the southern california area and then frank o'hara so one goal one assist this season seven goals last year. I think forgiving eunice nominally. A mulligan on twenty twenty chaotic. We should do the same for franken. Hara what's working and not working given the price tag on their big east reicher. Who didn't have a great game in this fixture in the opener for dallas on a lot of great games. And that's been the issue. I think that people do. Yeah he's going to be making a family money but when you see the numbers and the fact that he's pulling nearly three million dollars in guaranteed compensation second place second place the second biggest earners not edges longtime club servant. Top centreback back in the league. He's making more than two million less. It's like what are we doing here like what's happening here so hara getting off the schneider scoring from the penalty spot as good as optum. Today you know and asked about confidence he said asked the salary to and you'll be able to rebalancing taxes people wanna subscribe just basically kind of said. Yeah you know. It's it's a personal thing. It's not a big deal. Doesn't as locker room rifts. Okay but something's not white adding up right. So i think he knows he needs to do more. I think lucia gonzales manager knows it. He needs to find a way to get more out of horror at some point. I mean pushed us to shove. There are an options. I think one fascinating. So what is is the fact that hastings for data does a great offseason with us senior national team. Good showing in a difficult situation with the us. Lubbock altercation seeing not making japan but not by any fall for that. I tell and lewis for not finishing all right. I want to go that direction. But you know legitimately. Like i think he had a pretty good tournament results notwithstanding and then getting injured right like two to three days regular season starting and i do wonder ricardo. Pepys a great talent. He's also been coming into form and scored important goals already describing teenager I do think the situation will be a little different edibles. They're beating on the door but he's still not cleared to return to full chain training yet because of the injuries who is shoulder so i don't think we see in until after national break in june. Do we see him as a starter. Probably not so you know. It seems franken Frankel had his lease on life quote unquote as a starter is extended but the team needs more. I thought we also league in not only did he score but he also was better than the build up his better bring. These together is also better in the for that against minnesota united. Both of those after the salary numbers came out. So i don't know that little firearm but a little chip on his shoulder at the very least he needs to be picking up some taps for dinners whatever entertainment geise going for. But i do think that you look. You already had a player. You're like wisest producing more. Now you see the salary. Numbers like whoa. This guy really needs to be producing more to justify what they're paying and there's also the frustration transit dallas fans. That typically top earners have been earning or emma hedges urns from thousands to a million a year. He went over that number the first time in offer canaan for him. The club sold them. So you're not used to seeing players make that much money at the club and we finally have one of the club's investing in it's not exactly a fan favorite doesn't necessarily seem to fit gonzalez's trying to do so there's definitely frustration. Or how does he fix it or rules. Be better right. Easier said than done easy for me to sit. Yeah i'm curious about you. Dallas or in a cluster of a few different teams. That have come out with the bax. Three on i remember watching on. Espn plus with my vpn. Says they're still the situation with altitude here in denver. It was the fc. Dallas fee for the first game of the season between these two teams met hedges in halftime referred to it as a four to one. I'll take his word for it. Looks like a four three three of four one two three from a distance. In any case we've seen gonzalves kind of tinker with that and sometimes come out with a formation. That doesn't look anything like that. What is this team tactically right now. Is this formation taking some time to be implemented to issues that i would say the lucia gonzalo to do weird. Things is not right for getting getting inventive. The formation one issues that they have three really good centrebacks that might just. We talked about a little bit apple. Martinez they signed during the offseason. They brought back her son brazilian. Who was the best centreback for at least one or two the first three or four games this season sometimes. The problem is solved itself in. That had just been injured. Martinez picked up a knock in the in the game and substituted. Sometimes it's been a question of. How do i get all three of these guys. The field the other issue is generating chances and they don't quite have a wide players. I think necessary to do a traditional like three four. Three like you'd see maybe market manchester city do again making interesting. I'm just saying in a similar structure. They don't have a wide players. They've ryan hollingshead who does fit the bill and then after that. It's kind of question. Mark question mark questions so a lot of a lot of moving parts. Things not necessarily coming off them. They're also seeing disregard. Who's up ten both by number and by still set but instead of being kind of attritional playmaker doesn't dropback doesn't.

frank o'hara Martinez Frank o'hara lucia gonzales ryan reynolds Hara two lucia gonzalo Today second place minnesota united O'hara twitter thousands seven goals one goal ricardo last year Mls cup Facebook

"They did for forty five minutes l. Afc had the ball scenes like the whole time. And if they didn't have the ball the rapids were just kind of struggling under pressure to try and figure out something to do. It was really the opposite of all of the rapids games. We've seen till now. The other thing was that whole first half the rapids did not seem to be able to get pressured the ball effectively. They could get it on the press a little bit but it seemed like they were always a step behind it and they just never got pressured to the ball at the right place which meant that or maybe they weren't even trying especially in that midfield situation. I was talking about it. Meant that they dropped deep like you said And that was clearly by design that they were basically like. We're gonna press up front hope for a turnover and then if it doesn't happen we're gonna fall back to a fairly deep position where it's kind of like Five four one kind of compacted on that first goal it was the fact they were in that formation when they gave up the goal and to your point house of boubacar kind of missed his assignment there. But it just didn't look right from the beginning. It didn't look like they and more importantly if you're being if the other team has the ball you can't get pressured to the ball and you can't really produce the offensive set for a whole half It's just mixed up. So they got right in the second half. Whatever changes frazier made. Were were helpful. And they did better. But this too late too late they. They've blown it and they probably should have been down three now. That yeah so we move onto big thing mark. I will say that it could have been worse. I kinda thought you not conflicting but to kind of foiled us on the game generally from rapids twitter anything both equally right and even though they're yin and yang they kind of show at of the so many so many little things didn't go as well as they could have. A few big things went horribly horribly wrong and still in the final twenty minutes the rapids get a corner and you're they're so a good possibility there. Nicking a two two draw out of this one. And so i could see someone saying. There's so many simple things. They shot themselves in their foot. Given how poor that performances in how fixable those issues are i'm wanted in how in the performance but i can't be disappointed in the result given that or you could be angry all those little things are fixable lawless boubacar could have played a lot better keegan rosenberg could've cloned closed. Down diego rossi. Diego rubio could've finished his chances on the counter-attack robin frazier could have set them off to be a little bit more successful. if carlos vela isn't fit and playing sixteen minutes and his best performance of the season maybe we're talking about a different game in everything you know. I'm so mad at so many little things that the team self inflicted on themselves. That i can't be mad at the result or your mad about the result because of how things work but you can't be mad at the poor because with so many little things could've gone differently the x. g according to analysts soccer dot com was one point to you for afc one point three for the rapids granted that was with the rapids chasing the game for much of the game so it in the end they caught up in everything. But so i think this is a there. Were lessons learned in this one. This game you know games like these are going to happen and the simple fact is mark we've seen the rapids go into the bank of california stadium against an informant scoring diego rossi against carlos villa coming back from injury and the performance hasn't quite there things haven't gone perfectly and the teams wilted or the efforts been there but there's been absolutely no execution whatsoever. The anthony hudson Team would have lost this game. Three nail would have lost this game for one. And while i didn't really see the rapids nicking a point at the end of the game. I can completely understand a number of other people wearing burgundy blue watching this thinking. They just need one really good opportunity or one really good set-piece ball from jack price and they could have gotten a point and they would have deserved and so in that regard i think we can. I think people can look at this game and be equally glass half full glass half empty not be wrong but at the end of the day. It's a learning experience and you move forward to a better situation that i think the rapids have on saturday. Say my one. Big thing is really simple which is going into l. Afc in what. The announcers repeated over and over again was their first game back. Where the fans were you know. Almost all the fans were in attendance. In how exciting to be in the fans and they spend a lotta time talking about that but to be Going into l. Afc is really really tough environment And they are. They've they've locked down the bank really really well as a team When you go on the road to xposition park it's gonna be a tough fight in colorado. Were down to nothing. And i was really worried that it was just gonna turn into a bloodbath. At that point they were gonna go down six nil coming out with a two one win. two one. Two one defeat is kind of a win in the sense that like they were in the ball game for the second half they chased the game effectively They did create enough chances. That you could have imagined them getting out of that game with a two two draw and just barely missing. That may is is pretty decent and you should feel. We should feel pretty good about that so like building towards something down the road that might be more promising as we go forward listeners Earlier today. I got to speak to john john. Arnold who writes for the texas striker the strikes texas About fc dallas amongst many other things that he writes about mexican national team related concacaf related. Nice sat down to talk to him about. Fc dallas this upcoming game so we will. Now go that segment of noth. I enemy welcome back listeners. To holding the high line with rabbi and read my name is matt pollard. We have a very special. Fc dallas focused edition of no the enemy here from the strikes texas and a bunch of other places. We have john arnold's how're you doing afternoon. I'm greg odd Start with a little bit of a big picture thing. I look at fc dallas. I see a team that you know with the recent news had with the up. Another kid whose name i can't remember. Because there's so many be going off to via munich. The pipeline you're the conveyor belt is full on in terms of to europe entered securely to move area in germany so clearly that make sense for the club in erection that the league is trying to go and it's certainly helping out the club financially given. We're in cova times. But i'm kind of curious you know. We've seen them selling young players. That's been a big part of their mantra and we haven't really seen it in terms of the i team. In that money being reinvested so at the at the risk of maybe asking a tongue-in-cheek offensive question. What is the point of the fc dallas. I t- Big picture what is this club other than what they're doing from a youth development and sales to europe standpoint right now First of all. It's the hunts so you can use the word pipeline. You know texan Billionaires are not usually Unfriendly with oil rights though pipeline is fine. You don't have to second van impulse. I m eastern texas sense You know speaking about the. I team is justin shade. Defenders likely gonna. Sign that biron. Joining chris richards. The defenders signed their environ joining brian. Reynolds defenders signed over there in syria. I mean you know. I actually during this international break open lab on the strikes texas a piece sort of similarly tongue in cheek that it'll be basically be what would ask dallas. Looked like it. They didn't sell the players. Because you know look like we get. This is where i'm on in certain apps gals at boy. You look at the potential eleven even these now that actually announced the put on the field and a lot of good players left the building. You know kennedy's mckennie have products. He didn't even sign. I see deal now. I think they have this Phobia that the same thing is going to happen and a player's gonna piece out in the academy movie. Turns eighteen signed a deal with a big german club. And they're not gonna get.

"Say about being a an adjunct first time ever sports photographer like you might have the greatest picture in the world but it in soccer. If the ball's not in the picture it's not really a very good picture right if it looks like a guy just a the ball and he looks great and his leg is fully extended in the defenders in the shot really nicely and it's all framed willie well but there's no ball in the picture he pretty much can't use it right like 'cause you're like because the brain immediately goes. Hey where's the ball in this fisher like getting the getting. The perfect photo is really really hard. So props all those guys. I'm gonna keep practicing. I'm probably gonna shoot the first half of the fc cincinnati game on the ground which all be on the grounded an mls level game. Where i assume it's another ten percent faster and this game was already difficult last single. Say do you know how i warmed up for the the river hounds game to get a little bit of practice. Were you taking photos of easy during a kick around in the backyard. Close i took. Why did those just to kind of get the basics of the camera but on wednesday. My daughter had a scrimmage against the red team her orange team in rec soccer. And let me tell you. The most obvious statement of this entire podcast matt shooting eight-year-old girls at four aside. Soccer is easier than shooting professional soccer and to to your point so listeners. For the first time shoots a bunch of photos of an entire. Us l. game and gets like eight photos that are usable. John bobby ac literally circulates throughout the rapids media. I'd say easily two dozen her home match in that has been with him. Having restrictions during cove. i'd say easily. He could give us thirty on his best night. Probably could give us fifty super useful photos. There are dozens of photos from twenty sixteen. That are this is fantastic. I'd be so happy to have this photo associated with the recap game that never saw the light of day because of how many really good ones that he says last thing that i want to say on the switchback game and then we'll get to match this past saturday nights listeners. I got to to meet chris walker mark for the first time seeking strike or new mexico. United we obviously were on his show. prior to preseason talking about the aforementioned patron saint of hd l. michael zero and then also finally got to meet liam hopkins of burgundy wave and general rapids twitter for the first time in the flesh. Liam was a little bit of a deer in headlights. But you know mark. We've all had that moment where we're in a new stadium and unfamiliar environment credential than so. I was super happy to be the the old hand. Shoot you know. Helping the the. The young chicken learn his way around everything and were learned where everything is and how to act in everything so it was gratifying for me liam. It was really really great to you and liam saint. You seemed at least a little skittish like coming up to talk to me. i. I don't know if this is because i don't have much of an ego mark but like listeners. If you see me at dnc. Like i'm not walking with like intense purpose like a man on a mission. I'm not super busy and like you could come up and say hi. If you see me like randomly on the street or in king super now that i'm fully vaccinated or hopefully you know at one of the soccer bars at some point. You're like oh my god if you're star struck not that i'm saying that you can't or should be like that's matt pollard. If you wanna come and talk soccer to me half a why started. This podcast was an excuse to have an appointment every single week to talk to mark about soccer. So please absolutely come up and talk to me. If you start with anything other than matt paulo to hate your podcast in your writing is crap. And here's why you're wrong about this. That and the other thing anything other than that. I'm not gonna come off defensive. And i'm going to be happy in their act with you and i wanna believe that this podcast is a relationship that we have even though most of it is one way in terms of the audio communication before a lot of you never met mir marsinah's in person you've been listening to us. What two maybe three hundred hours or so. I want to have that relationship. This is a platform for the rapids community and that relationship should be two way. And if the only time that st ever gets used is when you randomly see me and wanna. Coaching public has a total stranger. I welcome listeners. This past saturday at the bank of california stadium in los angeles california unfortunately the colorado rapids. Winning streak came to an end as they were defeated. I brought bradley's elliott by a score of three two one mark the rapids came out any very very defensive posture. Lousy boubacar boubacar made his first appearance of the season for the burgundy boys what i thought was potentially going to be a fluid. Four four two in possession turned out to be a three five two and really a five five three two and at times a five three and everything. The rapids did have a couple half sniffs at set-pieces prior to elliott's getting the first goal that came in the fifteen minute with corey bear cutting inside and then finding deal rossi lawsuit boubacar step to the ball air thereby creating a passing lane To find a rosie who had drifted off of the back shoulder of keegan rosenberg a really really great finish from diego rossi there l. Afc continues to create a lot of really really good opportunities. the rapids mostly interacting on the counter attack before the second goal from elliot c. Which came in the thirty third again from diego. Rossi in a similar sequence this time. Carlos davila with the assists bella cuts inside drags of the rapid centreback stored sam creating yet another passing lane rossi to shoot the gap between loss. Boubacar and rosen rosemary in the back five rapids with fewer chances on he says diego rubio had a really really nice header chance before the end of the half mark and then the rapids come up with a much much better mentality in the second half they get a go completely against the run of play. Michael barr opening up his rapids account with yego rubio with the nice flick on assist after a good outlet ball out of the back. Coz fellow came out of the game Play fifty nine. And this was very very effective a couple substitutions for the rapids. Mark saw a lot of really great effort l. Afc largely at that point was playing the scoreline. They were playing. They were playing for a results in they were playing the scoreline and the fact that they were in control for much of the game so the effort was there. The execution wasn't there and really the rapids. Were chasing the game from the fifteen on certainly from the thirty minute on when rosie scores that goal and the rapids get out there unfortunately with a two one loss mark. What was your good thing from this past saturday's to teach to the black end goals. You did a really nice job of describing the goal We we we. Don't think a lot about why direct route one. Soccer is direct on soccer. We don't talk about it a lot. Because i think back in the day like when we started this podcast and the team was bad or matt will. We met like five years ago when we started writing about the rapids and the team was bad. They used direct actually five years ago. Two thousand sixteen. They were actually good. But in twenty fifteen they were bad. When you're bad you play direct and play direct because it's basically like i don't know a broken watch is right twice a day with a blind squirrel finds a nut right. That's direct soccer. You put the ball over the top and a guy runs onto it any latches onto it and he gets behind the entire defense in the process. You get yourself a goal and it just really only took two guys to to make that thing happen Geagan rosenberg's ball over the top was fantastic. Was just it was a long diagonal that got played to borrows bios plays back into rubio rubio flips the kind of overhead chip ball. Right through the barrios. Enviro scores a goal. That's direct soccer baby. I mean that is route one and it and it and it was kind of is kind of good. So if you're getting drilled and things are not going very well and you've got that in your bag to pull out you can bust out the that that kind of play every once in a while. Ideally you don't want to play that way every possession but if you can score on on possessions like that on occasion It's a real asset the other thing. I'll say this related to that. Is we usually talk about keegan rosenberg or this year especially and even also at the end of last year as the right back who stays home that allows sam vines to go forward right. We talked about him as kind of like the third centerback in the rapids. Kind of Floaty relationship will say especially talked about it in the article. I did.

"I go outside the main door and i'm right at the last seat that you have on the home side in everything so it's much more. I've posted a couple of pictures of it on my twitter folks. But it's you know it's a much closer angle. I like being above the field that you have at an angle. That is being right on the touchline right behind the spanish language broadcasts for me. Mark is the best seat in the house. That i can get at usc. But there's no bad seat that you can get at widener field so on potassium really great downtown area. You know you can go get some food. It's not you know out by the baseball stadium in a bunch of houses at the old one a much better environment in terms of the. I want to get there early and go get dinner before the game. I wanna go out after the keen on is much better. I think it's i think it's gonna end up being one of the premier stadiums that we have in the us championship and if every single team playing in a modern ballpark laying in an ideal situation. If they look at the switch backs. And say i'm gonna try and do what they did. Mark that will be akin to you know what sporting kansas city did in terms of them being the this is how you do it rebrand and opened up a soccer stadium and it's It shows a lot of lessons. Learned that we've even seen from. Mls and other markets in american soccer. About how do stadium in a relaunch and brew v. Invigorating club how to do that properly and how to not do that properly. Anna switchback said. Other than i think the questions i have about whether or not. They're going to be a playoff team this season. But everything's headed in the right direction. So everything's coming up switchback. Even though on saturday. Friday night fulltime everything came up michael zero. I mean i think the great thing about being in your first season with a brand new stadium is you don't have to win. you know. go going five. Hundred is fine. Which for the swiss faxes pretty normal. They've been par that's par for the course that may have been a at average or slightly below average team. I did an article on them are sack a couple of weeks ago and they you know alan koch had a pretty decent year with them although he only lasted one year Before that steve. didn't really like the world on fire But it was still a really good environment to go see a game. I really enjoyed going to see all weiner fill so we're not going after his old leader field new wieder field and widener widener. Yes better get your get better. Get your real estate barons names properly now. If you want your presidential mad. You know where. I was on saturday night. Were you at the hound season opener. Yes where was i at the hound season opener. Oh you had you had photo credentials. You were on pitch side. I was. I tried so we have a. We have a an editor for pittsburgh soccer. Now and i usually do the preview articles features which means that like And this is pretty similar. When i was with the when i lived in colorado rapids like i often didn't do game day stuff or burgundy wave. I didn't do game day stuff for the denver post. I didn't need to be in the press box banging out like a story. I didn't need to be you know grinding that whole day. I just kind of like passively. Enjoy the game which is very strange. When you have a press credential because you see all these working journalists and you feel like should. I be working journalists. Should i be working harder if i go and get a beer is disrespectful to the rest. The journalists who were not supposed to. You're not supposed to get a beer but listeners. All of these questions. Mark has asked me while i was not paying attention to him. Because i was tweeting a riding my recap so eventually you guys have heard me talk about this. I'm sure at some point. I eventually evolved to the ethos that even if i was working the game gonzo journalism style of hunter s. thompson is far better than normal journalism. So i've definitely covered as as game day reporter the team from the support section with a beer in hand which is expressly. I believe against some sort of piece of paper that. I had to read once when i was a journalist. But anyways point being i was trying to just be useful to my To my website because they really need to do anything that day and we don't have a lot of really photos in there. I remember looking in the file photo. for charlotte and we had four pictures and none of them were newer than three years. Old so i was there and so i took photos than is a really good experience is a really good experience. Matt say one real quick thing about it. Which is we have a photographer who helps us out at Holing the highline subject. He's also helped last word on soccer. He's given photos to burgundy wave on any does it out of the kindness of his own heart because otherwise you as a website have to pay for getty or for ap to give you their photos and you have to pay a monthly fee. It's way more expensive than you. You and i am at can afford like we're not going to sign up for getty photos Just for for our sub stack. But john bobby ac. A photon john. Be on on the web. We never talk about on the podcast. Because you know it's the visual media and we are literally not a visual medium here But he gives us a photo c. Goes down on the field and he takes photos and what my long lead up to this is. It is really hard to do what those guys do. And i knew that going in. I knew that going in. John gave me a ton of advice. Any he was hitting me like a fire hose with advice. he kept. he was like giving me advice. Eyeso- an f stop and all these complicated camera terms that literally. I just learned last week. I never took photography in high school or in college. Like i just literally. I bought the crappiest digital camera that i could afford which is literally fourteen years old. I took it out to the stadium. I you know playing around with it. I got like i took a. I took three hundred photos about two hundred of them. Were like delete immediately quality. Like two hundred twenty two hundred forty more delete immediately quality another like sixty. You keep but you wouldn't be proud of and like i'd say there were like eight that i was like this is the photo you know this is. This is the legitimate photo. But just think about that you sit pit side and you work really really hard and you take three hundred two hundred to three hundred photos you sift through all of them and you find eight good ones eight right. That's amazing right. If i was if i as a writer came up with a one thousand word article matt. Only thirty of those words were any good. I be fired every week. You know backwards and forwards upwards and downwards. It's a very different medium and and the other thing is like you you see a moment developing and you're a soccer fan right you know you know where the ball is gonna. You probably know where the ball's gonna go. You probably know what's going to happen right. You just have to get you have to move your hands. Click the button looked through the viewfinder level. The thing off make sure autofocus correctly. Make sure it's in the right frame all the same time. You've got like a one thousand chance of getting that all right and if you don't you must it's gone. Might you know the every time you see a photo of a guy where the like the other thing is and this is really obvious. The last thing. I'll.

"Am you know i think i i am fully prepared you. I could step in right now. Any club in the world and immediately. So i was never drafted obviously in them at separate draft. Technically free agent. I'm telling you right now. Mark having spoken and watch michael zero come on on site on friday night at altitude with new mexico united down and up a goal and seeing out that game portsmith could sign me to a league. Rookie minimum right now. And i guarantee you. I would feel fully prepared to step in start for the rapids. At right. back. Over keegan rosen very lead the rapids Invincible season through the rest of the way through listeners. You heard of the top of the hour before our usual intro music. I was thoroughly choi short old. I was so happy to see mike in person again. He played fantastically off the bench for new mexico. United in what ended up being a three one win at the opening. Ussl league or championship. Of the i league game that they had at widener field in downtown colorado springs up the switch backs had played a preseason friendly there previously and i was gonna ask about the game mark. I was gonna ask him about coming out seeing the game out holding the high line with new mexico united. He had a couple of really really good interceptions in the final and was gonna ask him. You know about formats. And what does it say about the experience. What new mexico united could achieve with that and all of that was completely blinded by the aura and the The radiant happiness that engulf knee upon entering in the vicinity upon breaking social distancing rules to stand next to and i just wanted to I think mark you. And i both agree that a lotta times when when we spoke to mike in the past amazed by hand. And we've talked about him. We are in many ways as much as we herald and as much as we celebrate and appreciate him as the player. I was talking to michael human being in that moment it was so it was. It was really great to see him play. It was really great to see him. Actually in person. And i'm really excited that unlike the colorado rapids i get to watch michael zero on. Espn plus with no blackouts. The rest of the way on with disease super excited see him. The stadium was absolutely fantastic. Folks i thought it was very very nice. It's the nicest ufl stadium i'd been in. I was talking to matt. Cleveland at halftime. It's very similar to similar layout to dix. But like if you took dick's and the decided instead of making it eighteen thousand sixteen seats. Let's make it the eight thousand seats. It's basically just like we took. Dsp scaled down to eight thousand seats. There's not really a bad seat in the house. You're really really close. The last row that you have in terms of furthest away from the field would cost you easily over one hundred bucks in pre cova times for a saturday night game at gs g on. It was a little bit chaotic mark. I was walking around the stadium and everything and asking people like. Where's the press interest in everything nobody knew and then once i got in and got credential asked how to get to the press box. The girl that was like. I have no idea. Sorry so i found my way. And i ended up. Going up on rampant. Saw me walk onto the field accidentally. And i didn't realize it so i think mark you in a couple of weeks you'll be able to give a perspective on. What is you know a new stadium. People not knowing their surroundings and everything but it was definitely. It was organized. Chaos right up until the opening of the stadium not quite the ideal situation in terms of switch backs actually starting the game from all of their pre-game festivities in everything but the curse were there. The atmosphere was really really good Just a less than forty eight hours before the city. Ordinance had actually change the capacity. They could go to a seventy percent. Which would have put seventy percent of the eight thousand even seats that were available fifty six hundred. Which would have been a switch backs record. The most they ever had was fifty two hundred at the old widener field for a fourth of july games that included fireworks saw haji barre score a goal he was absolutely fantastic but ultimately new mexico united's quality and their experience and everything showed through. Help them get a result. And i think it taught brennan burke a few of me on colorado rapids lonnie's including maiolica. Who subbed in the game. Mike edwards started. I believe Played all ninety minutes. It talked team in those players Unimportant valuable lesson that will hopefully help them compete for fourth in their division in the us l. championship mark. Did you watch the game. Did you care Do you have any questions for me. That i could better explain. What these new switch-backs experiences like. I caught the game. I enjoyed it. it was it. It was really hard to figure out they weren't they weren't spending as much time on the broadcast talking about The stadium and when they were. I mean i missed a bunch of it because that was was that on saturday matt. It was friday night friday night. Yeah i think. I i think i was probably fried from a long day but yeah i mean i. I think you went to the old stadium right. So you can kind of tell about the amenities. There's one thing from the brochure. that didn't quite understand. It sounded like they had like to clubs Two different like sky. Boxy you know Luxury club for For the kind of like Sweet owning set Did you get to either of them. Are they different What are some of the amenities of the stadium for the the kind of like the person who plunged down extra change or who gets a season ticket on. So i'd say for season ticket holders like there's a lot of there are alcohol receptacles than foods places throughout the entire stadium. So it isn't like it isn't like ghg. Where if you're on like the end of the north end of the stadium you have to walk to almost feel to get to the food that you have in everything most of the best options that you have. That's not your standard Stadium food and everything. That's available is on the south side. I would say it's evenly dispersed throughout the stadium. Obviously similar to d s g whitener field the epic the epicenter on has kind of a horseshoe face so it would be the south end of the stadium. It's the standing room only area all along that touchline that would be akin to the north side of the field whore dsp. I did end up accidentally. Walking through the i guess the second of the the three sky box levels they had the second floor and then the third floor is also in. The kind of had a carpeted area you know it seemed a little bit more ritzy. There was a bartender and everything they had a buffet of nicer. Food from your stadium food. I walk all the way through the seats. I just kind of watered my way. Through when i had my credential because i realized had gone the long way because nobody was showing me where to go and everything but i would say that the amenities hold are pretty good. Some people were commenting that some of the bureau options were sixteen dollars and not for the great stuff. I don't know if that's new sticker price because it's menu stadium. I don't know if that's gonna be the new norm. That is very not what the family friendly pricings that you had the old widener field and everything so i heard a couple of people complaining about that. I did end up meeting with matt. Cleveland one of our listeners at halftime and he said that there was an option. He got a a wristband or pay to get into an area on the main homeside concourse to go behind and gets some other food in. That was unlimited. I'm not sure what the money locations bad are. But it's that for all you can eat all you can drink then. It's a nice option listeners. If you're looking to get seats in you wanna be in the best option in terms of you without like walking around the stadium. Which honestly isn't hard you could probably lap it. You know if you get out of your seat right at the halftime whistle. The don't wanna get back in your seat until they rica goff. You could probably laugh stadium Two times i would suggest getting seats on the north side the mountain face the you have with pipe peaks in the background is through the open side of the horseshoe just to the left in facing south west from the main press box area. It's absolutely spectacular with the sun setting and everything but you will have the sun in your eyes for probably the first half or so so great view. I guess to your question. Mark about the press box on our press box areas on that first floor of the concourse in everything. So.

"Of the podcast all creation and this is my application for the super patriot arts grant. All creation is my ode to the creative side hustler. It's podcast about the trials and triumphs. That i and my creator acquaintance of experienced and life lessons. We've learned along the way as an example in episode four of season one entitled go for it an interview my lovely wife about her experiences as an outside the box thinker growing up in china just as the country was beginning to open to the west. And how she came up with the idea for an academic seminar. They got paid twenty grand over the course of about thirty. Six hours is application is specifically in support of the podcast. But it'll be going towards so much more than that because in addition to the podcast. I'm in the midst of building. A number of other projects including a social network. That'll teach people to do science a novel about mind control suicide in the moral ambiguity of superheroes comedy about my experiences as study abroad student in china now. I know that this grant is aimed at creators will be putting out content all year round. And that's why this application is focused on all creation. Podcast already had a full season of thirteen episodes released over six months and season two is currently in the works. Those episodes will start coming out in january of next year and with the super patron arts grant. I would be able to do not just one. But two full seasons next year the idea is to produce awesome content consistently for the full year. Get my listenership off the ground and start building. A sustainable basis via patriotic as for the details of what the grant would go towards. It would be enough to support my entire family for all of next year including rent food medical bills with enough leftover that i could spend a significant amount on promoting the podcast via ad campaigns and traveled a pie casting conferences and conventions with this grant. I could not worry about finding an office job and needing to leave my family for forty or more hours a week in the midst of a pandemic i could focus on the writing recording and production of my show while i stay home and help take care of my two children. I could hire a musician and stop using the janke royalty free music provided by podcasting platform. Although i do appreciate that music it's better than not having it But most importantly i could spend a full year working on nothing but the types of projects that my heart tells me i need to put out into the world. So that's it. Thanks very much for listening. I'm evan calls harris and this has been my application for the super patron arts grant..

"Hi this towel. Creator of side questing. It's been two weeks since episode for and you might be wondering where episode five is. The answer is that I'm still working on it. The show doesn't technically have a BI weekly schedule. But I try to stick as close to it as I can. But I'm making each episode in real time and there's not a secret vault of finish episodes for me to draw from so occasionally episodes will take three or even four weeks to come out this week instead of a full episode. I'm giving you a sneak. Peek at the patriotic exclusive episodes. That came out this month. If you like what you hear you can become a patron for three dollars more per creation and get access to the full fifteen minute episode right. Now or right after the teaser. So are you going to tell me? If you know where ashes you'll never still need to try. Why is your cave so dark? Is it solely an aesthetic choice? It's so to see me my here. Maybe share okay. I stand corrected. Just want to be a jerk. I'm lighting at torch. Oh come on so afraid of the dog. No I just don't WanNa trip whatever you say. I wonder.
