And what a thrilling finish that was and that set the stage for a really wild and zany in crazy game in the nfc east to kick off week two on thursday night football. I think you can draw some conclusions about the washington football team. And some major concerns brought to the fore for the new york giants. We're gonna get into all of that and a whole lot more throughout the course of this show but before we do as always just a little bit of housekeeping for you. If you try the podcast. What a finish for the washington football team and we're going to get into of the implications not the least of which is taylor hynix future and the washington football teams future because of him. Prejudice have to say the final five minutes of that game might be the absolute worst coached stretch of football. That i've seen from any team out of joe jr team especially on special teams and patrick. Graham's defense look all night long and this is the second time in as many games that we've watched patrick rams defense a lot of people view patrick. Graham is a potential future head coach in the nfl especially based on the giant success. Last season what they were able to get out of their dominant defense line and after an off season where they went out and they signed. Dorie jackson. cornerback. You had a pro bowl corner on the other side and james bradberry. There was a lot of optimism about this giants defense coming into the year but after the season opener and again on thursday night you just watch as the giants defense. Can't even breathe on the quarterback. I know that aziz oj. Larry picked up his second sack in his second career. Game he sacked. Taylor heineke in the first quarter but after that heineke at all day in the pocket and the giants defense for the second week in a row gave all kinds of cushion on the outside tarry mccaren catch a touchdown in the first quarter. He averaged nine. Point six yards per reception but the way that game ended for the giants. The drive that was put together by heineke. He had a big. He had a clutch third down completion to adam humphreys to move the chains and then the wheels fell off for the giants. They had to burn a timeout with under thirty seconds to play because they didn't have enough players on the field. Then dustin hopkins runs out on the field to kick a forty eight yard or for the game winner. Misses it but texted. Horri- jumps offsides. That can't happen that's inexcusable. And that's poor executional lawrence's part but that's an undisciplined. Play for a coach. Coaching staff and a team. That stresses disciplined football. Look the giants made all kinds of mistakes all night between the coverage scheme on defense between the drop pass by darius slayton in the end zone that would have put the giants ahead. Maybe put the game out of reach and then warrants at the end of the game and the biggest moment jumping off sides. That can't happen and the giants are not talented enough to overcome those kind of mistakes. But i don't know the you can make any really broad sweeping conclusions about the giants their trajectory after this game other than patrick graham better figure this out pretty quick. The giants need to get more imaginative on offense and they need to play more disciplined football. Those are the takeaways for the new york giants. Who by the way squandered. What might have been daniel jones his finest performance as nfl quarterback he goes twenty two of thirty two two hundred. Forty nine yards touchdown. Ads nine carries ninety five yards. Is the games leading. Rusher russia's for touchdown just a great all around performance by daniel jones. And if you're looking for reasons to believe he's the quarterback of the future pop this game tape it and rewatch it. Because that will take a franchise quarterback but more importantly the washington football team might have found their long term solution at quarterback. In taylor heineke and again. I think that last year you can look at the giants. Defense is a top fifteen unit in the league. I don't know that they're quite that good this year but heineke carve them up. He showed all kinds of poison. The pocket he goes thirty four for forty six three hundred thirty six yards two touchdowns one interception ninety nine point five passer rating and maybe more importantly he did something that daniel jones is done only twice in his career and that was lead a fourth quarter comeback game. Winning drive any did it in his first regular season start. I look at what happened on thursday night from washington football team perspective and this is a team that over the next three years. We need to start talking about legitimately competing for super bowls. I think they're a step below the tampa. Bay buccaneers are step below. Maybe the dallas cowboys. But maybe not with all the injuries the cowboys have but in an nfc. That's very wide open safe for the nfc west. Which we're gonna talk about in-depth later in this podcast washington has to be considered in the upper echelon you have arguably a top three defensive line in the league and they made their presence felt i know the giants have one of the worst offensive lines in football but montana. Sweat had a sack. On thursday night chase yang was consistently in the backfield thursday night eases disruptive as it gets there both potential defensive player of the year candidates for multiple years. But if you can continue to build around a quarterback and they went on their boorda short-term band and ryan fitzpatrick but if you can build around the quarterback who's making less than two million dollars a year over the next three years and you nucleus already includes chased young montas sweat terry maclaurin and antonio gibson and jerk mckissick who had a really performance in his own right five catches eighty three yards for russia's for ten yards a touchdown if that's your core today and you have all of the flexibility financially because you're not tied to a quarterback and you're not going to be tied for to a quarterback for the foreseeable future and you have ron rivera as a head coach. Yeah i think this is a team that people need to wake up and pay attention to and i know they let the chargers off the hook but the chargers they're asleep or team in the afc. It's a shame. The chargers have to play. Patrick mahomes twice a year in the kansas city chiefs twice a year but they may.

"I am the host of this show. Nicholas falana when football is back. Baby we just had week one action. Watch the rams take on. The bears rammed look really really good with matt stafford. That game just ended. But i i want to touch on the new york giants just abysmal. Twenty seven thirteen loss at home to the denver broncos at team that was five and eleven last year and i get it teddy. Bridgewater is their quarterback. And maybe i won't spend too much time on this game. Just because i will be talking about it on the chris joe show as well. 'cause this podcast is more about just brief happenings of everything else. That's going on in the league but this was a dismal dismal. Look for the giants team. In general the offense looked unimaginative again of just kind of resembled the twenty twenty thirty first ranked offense in yards and scoring which was also put on display by basically the giants only putting seven points up throughout the game. A garbage time rushing touchdown by daniel jones at the end made the game twenty seven thirteen. But it wasn't competitive for much of the game. At least i didn't feel competitive. Despite the fact that it was a one score affair up through the third quarter about midway through the third quarter. But the broncos may a lot of offense mistakes and the giants defense was opportunistic. Punching the football out of alberto's hand was great. Play by logan ryan happened in the red zone. But the broncos also dropping deep post touchdown blown coverage by dorie jackson k. J. hammer has to hang onto that. And you kinda knew. The bottom of the ship was just going to fall out because the giants just did not show up today. Like the denver. Broncos did the giants on third down while on defense. We're getting picked apart. And when they did come up with stops they allowed fourth down. Conversions credited vic fangio when his coaching staff were being very very aggressive against the new york giants and picking up those fourth downs credit. The teddy bridgewater and pat shurmur as well. I thought bridgewater found a very very good rhythm against this giants team. The patrick ram defense. We've been talking about it. All off season their ability to possibly play man coverage at an extensive rate in twenty twenty one. Now they attempted this against the broncos against quarterback teddy bridgewater who is in padma. Holmes isn't justin herber. He is a solid respectable. Nfl quarterback but he picked apart the giants man coverage. James bradbury was caught chasing jerry. Judy was caught chasing cortlandt sutton. So it was a dory jackson. These tight ends noah fan and alberto big alberto albert oak way. Benham they destroyed these giant safeties in man coverage and it wasn't necessarily because the coverage was terrible was just the timing and the rhythm of the quick passing game. Pat shurmur in teddy bridgewater was so on point and the secondary couldn't cover long enough to allow the pass rush to get in and the pass rush wasn't getting in quick enough to mask the secondary's deficiencies so the defense. The fact that they played just an astronomical amount of snaps sixty six snaps and it was like sixty two up until a competitive point in the game. When that melvin gordon seventy yard touchdown rush transpired. And then after that. The broncos took their foot off the pedal on the giants got about ninety five yards on those last two drives of just absolute garbage to make the four hundred twenty two three fourteen disparity look a bit more respectable but it really wasn't denver possess the ball for the majority of the game thirty five minutes to twenty four fifty two but again a lot of that came in the fourth quarter for the new york. Giants offense snoop giants offense couldn't sustain drives again. They got bottled down. They hit a big forty two yard. Catch daria slayton on the opening drive and then at an end around the cadavers. Tony go nowhere. Halfback draw get stuffed at an incomplete pass that forced a punt after a huge explosive game. Now the offensive line. It couldn't generate any push at the point of attack. It was an issue for the giants in this game. Something that we didn't necessarily think was going to be the issue with this offensive line. We speculated that the issue was going to be pass protection now. The broncos had to saxons game both by von miller. One against nate solder where von miller is used to hand punch to bench press nate solder to the outside to get an inside rush on daniel jones to get that sack and then the other one was matt paired to not even get out of the stance and von miller got probably one of the easiest sacks of his career by cornering into the cornerback with nobody impeding his way because parents here the snap happen now those two sacks hungry but we're going to be positive ben. Br edison played more snaps than chain lemieux and he actually looked pretty competent. Out there from everything that i saw. Now i do not have access to all twenty two as of right now and hope to get it soon though be clips on the site. If that's the case and andrew thomas now he wasn't gonna begin bradley job enter. Thomas also looked respectable in this game. It seemed like he was getting debt into sets and it also seemed now. Guinness is an all twenty two but it seemed like was square to his target. His feet and his hands were working in unison and he was playing with confidence little things that we saw down the stretch of last season. That were kind of coming up in this game against me. A solid pass rusher about thirty six pressures last year but no bradley shop. So i think that's important to know as well but again for just going to give an overall synopsis on this game. The defense was underwhelming. Did not live up to the hype that we expected coming out of twenty twenty but then again they were probably fatigued a lot down the stretch but just not being able to get off the field on third and fourth down killed that defense. Offense did not see the field nearly enough because the defense couldn't stop the broncos offense and because they can't sustain their own drives because they're an inefficient unit at thought. Daniel jones was solid in this game. I thought he had a couple impressive. Throws i think the third mate play where he identified the matchup of sterling shepherd against josie jewel and then fired to convert for a first down. That was a solid play. I think her predispo- snap. He had a couple of plays where. You're like okay. He's getting it. he's putting it together. But the frustrating thing about daniel jones roller coaster of daniel jones. The highs are not as high as they should be in. The lows are lower than they have to be and we also saw that happen when daniel jones just locks on targets. He didn't throw interception his game but he easily could have thrown to that one play in the red zone where he locked onto saquon barkley coming out of the backfield on a wheel route route. I love i love the concept it draws coverage to saquon barkley hopefully opening up cupboard underneath to the other receivers possibly the tight end..

"Also over thinks linebacker prospects. If we can potentially see a slide with kyle hamilton like we saw with isaiah simmons because nfl teams were unsure of what to do with him and they were just confused by the versatility. I i really think it's it's somewhat realistically possible for him to be draftable range for the new york giants and i can only think that that would be a perfect landing spot for him if patrick rams still around in the defensive coordinator after this season that could be a crazy player to have roaming the back end of the secondary. Oh absolutely and as good as he is like you you. You really don't need a ton of scouting acumen to turn on the to turn on some notre dame tape and just see that this guy is special but the nfl. They kind of have a track record of not knowing what to do with guys when they don't fit into neat little boxes. They devalue safeties they devalue linebackers. And we've seen like jeremiah. Cormo last year yeah. He was a linebacker with the size of a of a safety. Maybe a big safety but still a safety and they let him drop all the way down to where the cleveland browns got him and we were all sitting there going. What are you people doing. This is this guy is easily one of the fifteen best players in this whole draft. Why are you letting him fall. This far and i'm not gonna say cal. Hamilton's going to drop out of the top five or even the top ten certainly not the Top fifteen but it actually pretty easy to see teams looking at him and going. We're not sure what to do with him. We don't know where he will play in our defense at at the nfl level. And then you really creative guys. Like patrick graham. He is he kyle. Hamilton could just be a toy for him. Not not even just a defensive weapon just guy you put on your team and just scheme up plays in smile and i also want to just toss it in here. Because i'm sure that there are some giants fans that might not be as familiar with kyle. Hamilton is we are the might be thinking to themselves listening to this. Why the do the giants need another safety. Why do they need another defensive. Back there completely fine. I don't think that you can really strictly just say as i mentioned earlier in the show that kyle hamilton is a safety. A guy like patrick. Graham is going to find creative usages for kyle hamilton. So this is a pick. That is a no brainer. And i'm gonna be crossing my fingers literally throughout the entire draft process that he lands within some range that the giants can select them. I will do everything to root against the chicago. Bears to go winless just so they can be in a position to draft kyle hamilton last year. We did this with mike. Parsons where every week. I was in every time. We did a draft show. I was talking about the potential of drafting. Mike parsons and while i was in love with him and why he was my drive crush. I'm saying right now that kyle hamilton is my draft crush for this year. So cowboys fans pay attention on the dallas cowboys. The eagles is basically what that means. Yeah well those teams do that to me every year anyway so i guess i'm right there with you but you know if we want to. Maybe give giants fans some reason to pay attention. Djibril pepper is a free agent after the season is in the last year of his deal. And we'll be an unrestricted free agent in twenty twenty two also logan ryan yet. He's starting to get up there in age. He's on the wrong side of thirty and both of those guys do yet. The giants value them for their versatility. They don't do any one thing exceptionally well but they do a bunch of things well. They're they're better than average a budget things but great. Not really anything kyle. Hamilton is a guy who can be really good at a bunch of different things so if the giants select him if he winds up if you know if they wind up in range of each other yeah maybe hamilton comes down or the bit. The bears have a really bad season. The giants play well enough that they're not looking for a quarterback anything like that. Hamilton could allow the giants to move on from both logan ryan andrew peppers and potentially save some money. Because they're going to be up against the cap next year. Yeah there's a lot to consider again. I'm going to be talking. Kyle hamilton throughout this entire process. So keep your eye out for that one folks coming up. We're gonna talk about three big games to watch this weekend. And then some prospects to be aware of when you're watching them in.

"Nfl names were released during the final round of cuts where teams had to get down from eighty men to fifty three. But none was more surprising. And cam. Newton cam newton the ostensible starting quarterback for the new england patriots. He started against the giants in the third. Preseason game was released by the team and this is just a clear case of mac jones. Seizing an opportunity. That was ahead of him. When cam newton was forced to miss some practice time due to a miscommunication that led him onto the kovic nineteen list. Mac jones stepped up played. Well in each preseason game that he saw which was all three and then that wednesday practice against the giants where he reportedly carved up the giant secondary now. The thursday practice wasn't as good for him but he still has shown a lot of command in the offense and josh mcdaniels felt comfortable enough to let cam newton go and give the full reins to mack jones. Now it's mac jones's job for the foreseeable future good on the young rookie out of alabama the first round. Pick the fifth of the five big quarterbacks to be selected and now we'll get the c. We'll get to see. I remember people making incredibly outrageous. Comparisons to mack. Jones and tom brady and now he lands in the same spot now. That was an outrageous comparison. I remember that was during the senior bowl week where everything is basically berry hyperbolic. But i'm still excited to see what the young slinger can do. I think he has some solid weapons a lot. Better weapons and the patriots had last year. You have jacoby myers coming back by nelson. Aguilar is going to be a really good z. Receiver in that offense. I think both tight ends hunter. Henry and johnny smith will have a role i think jacoby myers is actually prime to kind of have a breakout season this year. And there's a lot of positive reports coming out about to kobe myers. But i think he's good player then. Kendrick born will be a good third receiving type of option as well. So i think the patriots could be a much better team than they were last year. But i still think this buffalo's division up there in the afc east wondering if cam newton is going to be able to be signed once injuries start happening around the league if he'll get another opportunity in twenty twenty one. I guess we'll have to wait and see other than that. There were a lot of other players that were released. Some are going to get picked up somewhere already claimed onto practice squads because now ever since last season you can keep up to six veteran contracts on your practice squad so you have some guys in their thirties on the practice squad. That's going to allow these teams to be more. Flexible of kovin does get into the locker room and hurt some of these rosters but we had some trades as well to in particular that i wanted to go over. There were several that we went over last week this week. We had kello witherspoon former third round. Pick of the san francisco forty niners being traded from the seattle seahawks to the pittsburgh steelers. And it's interesting because witherspoon just signed with seattle this off season and this trade cost the pittsburgh steelers twenty twenty three fifth round pick. And it's obvious. The steelers are not comfortable with their cornerback. Debt i feel like they haven't been comfortable with their cornerback and just there secondary depth for so long. It seems like every year they invest a high pick into their secondary. And it's not because they just want to bolster the depths. Because i feel like just according to people that i know that follow the steelers. They're not always sold. On the sean davis's of the world or the tyrrell edmonds of the world that they selected in the first round and even took them to trade a future first round. Pick to the miami dolphins bring in minkah fitzpatrick who has been an absolute stud. But now they go out and get a quarterback. Those guys were more safety type of defensive backs this was a guy coming out of colorado in two thousand seventeen was on a really stacked colorado defense that also add job a woosie who hasn't really panned out for the dallas cowboys as well as many envisioned but a witherspoon. I remember studying him coming out of that draft very very long type of cornerback. He does a solid job. At least from what i've seen in his. Nfl career getting his hands into the catch point and ripping through the ball. Which we've seen these giants cornerback to a really good job with under jerome henderson. But i remember my biggest gripe with witherspoon coming out of college was he just lacked a necessary physicality in the run game that i wanna see. I felt like he didn't love the contact. No one loves the contact but you understand it your responsibility. I didn't get that impression from witherspoon back when he was in college. And just by looking at a lot of people who covered the forty niners and some that covered the seattle seahawks. They seemed to remain consistent ever since he became professional. So that's something that's problematic for me. It's something that. I don't think patrick ram would ever be interested in some a little surprised to see a color. Witherspoon go to pittsburgh a team. That's also very very hard nosed and tough but maybe witherspoon got more physical last year. I haven't grind it through his film so he's looking the backup now. Joe haden and campsite two very talented cornerbacks. Joe haden on the back. Nine of his career drafted in the first round top. Ten of the university of florida back in twenty ten camp sutton relatively younger player out of the university of tennessee. Kind of coming into his own over there for the pittsburgh steelers. Now that second trade. Chris herndon new york new york jets. Maybe trading chris earn to the minnesota vikings now herndon was a player. I remember you had a pretty solid rookie season..

"He's another player. That hasn't jumped out quite yet. I got maybe dive into the nitty gritty of the film. A little bit more to see how he's being utilized. Because you know the all twenty two game passes just an absolute disaster right now but you know moa keeps making this this decision. Be hard for the new york giants if they want to try to release him in even squeeze him on the practice squad on their team. If you're lisa player you try to get him on the practice. What any other team. Thirty one other teams can claim him onto their active roster. And then you lose it and that's kind of the kind of the catch twenty two that yes you want to keep him. He's a young player. You wanna develop them but if somebody else wants him then he's gone. That's what ryan conley in the vikings last year so moa just had a great affair and no everybody else they'd be view has been talking about him as well. A lot of these younger players rice in john. I thought rebellious williams had one or two really solid repsonse also picked on just a little bit but he somebody that definitely has a chance to make this roster somebody. There's been a lot of buzz about all throughout the off season because he's been a really solid pickup as a six round. Pick at another position for the new york giants the secondary but he's competing with spa for sparsely. Josh jackson with the giants acquired from the packers. And then guys like sam beal who was beat pretty bad on in this game several times. I mean matt cole. A wide receiver the giants acquire recently on august. Eighth was playing cornerback and he wasn't targeted. Once the browns just focused on. Sam buell side and sam build a one time. He actually had solid coverage. Off the line of scrimmage. He drifted his round allowed the wide receiver undercut him to make the catch and that's just bad technique towards the latter half of the plane. You can't have those types of things. Bill mean it just hasn't looked good for him and his chances to crack this roster dwindle every time we get any sort of tape from him. So that's definitely not a positive whatsoever. And then i just thought it was good to see gary bright well. It was good to see him. He caught a couple dump offs. Fourth and six had a good catch in the flat adjusted. Well to those passes albeit. They were simple passes. He was stuffed on the goal line. But that was really just a good play by the end man. On the line of scrimmage for the cleveland browns. not really too much. He could have done from that. Maybe if he cut back inside he had a better opportunity but it was played well by the browns on that play executed. Just better than the new york giants. But i really wanna bring him up because outside of rotarians williams right now. We haven't as laurie who didn't wasn't really there today. Either because they dinged himself up at believe in practice. But everything's going to be okay with him outside of those two guys. We've seen these rookies. We area's tony. We've hardly seen very concerning robinson. He's been on the pup. And gary bright. Well who is somebody who the giants spent a six round pick and we hadn't seen up until point. So you're talking about your. I your third one of your six round picks you haven't seen and then ellison smith the fourth round pick. We haven't really seen so we're talking about the only guys we've really seen row training camp up until this point was as social. Laurie has been balling and doing well. At drought training camp that is and the mod areas williams who was used all over the field and patrick graham system with the second team which i loved to see boundary slot. Free safety you know how much of a high priority this coaching staff puts on players. Who provide a lot of versatility various williams or at least attempting to give him that. So that's good and just to see bright well was good just because you wanna see rookies. I don't know of any other. Nfl teams that basically haven't seen like eighty percent of their rookies. It's not great for the new york giants from that standpoint but still early on. We'll see what happens. But speaking of versatility carter coughlin got him. There had a sack which was great to see. Oh chains is also out of saqqara. Coffin was being used on the edge just like he was in college with the golden gophers minnesota and last year for the giants and then he was also at linebacker and i think overall he did solid he had one bad series. Where just did not look like. He knew what he was doing and he tried basically boxing out of the wide receiver or tight end around the scene about ten yards down. The field didn't get his head around. It was terrible technique from quarter coffin on that one play and then there was another one where there was a tynan cross. Who's a little late to react. Gave up about six yard. Game might have been a first down. Pick up as well but those types of things will be cleaned up. I think athletically he was carrying metric felton. Who's a great athlete at a ucla. A rookie down the field which is great to see so i think cardi call doing a good job to earn himself a roster spot because he can wear so many hats for patrick rams defense. "Defensively. I'm very intrigued. Not as much by. I know this sounds a bit odd to be saying coming from the giants media perspective. But i'm thinking the most interested in seeing how some of these jets rookies do being thrown into the fire going up against patrick rams defense specifically the one that that stands out to me the most zach wilson and i know that he's a rookie and he's going to be the starting quarterback i feel like they're going to give him a lot of playing time in this one because they're going to need him to get acclimated and ready to go. Does he actually perform at a high level. Is this the guy. That's a gamer. That we know that has has a. You know a gamer mentality to him. Is he going to step up and played really well against the giants or is he to be struggle and also you can also tach attach onto that. How well do the giants backup defensive players. Play against sack wilson. Are they good at holding him back and that could kind of give us a sense of maybe. How will defend similar style. Quarterbacks throughout the schedule yeah definitely interested in seeing zach wilson and really all their rookies guys like elijah there. Tucker against some of the defensive lineman the giants say the giants barely play leonard williams if they play series or they don't even play them at all which is realistic. That could happen. Or even dexter lawrence. I'm interested to see bj hill. I'm interested to see some of these other players on the roster danny shelton and see how they can go up against a talented rookie like allies. Avera tucker could it be a welcome to the nfl type of moment possibly and then look at the jets running back. Michael carter somebody else. That i'm definitely interested in as well. But as for zach. Wilson i mean he's throwing to elisha more very very interesting wide receiver more than likely coming out of the slot does darnay homes get a chance to see the field and if he does how does he hold up against that. Talented rookie atas. Julian love holed up against that talented rookie since he's reportedly planning a lot. The nickel position as well. So i'm really interested to see all of those match. Ups and zach wilson. Can he kind of handle the pressure. If patrick graham dials up a little bit you're not gonna say anything to exotic but the giants do have some talented new edge. Rushers guys like aziz social laurie. I'm not sure if ellison smith or o'shane will see the field is lorenzo. Carter going to see the field. I feed video denko. How much did he play. I'm really interested to see how they all work in conjunction with each other and how that rookie handles it. But it's a rookie so if the rookie doesn't handle it great there's not much to glean from the giants defense from that and that's one negative about the entire situation. In my honest opinion. I think just like one match up to keep an eye on could be as easily aria. Mci becton talk about all the intriguing. Rookies the jets have on their roster second-year player mci becton. He jumped out he. I think he surprised just about everyone with how. Nfl ready he looked you know right out of the gate last year and with his size his ability to move is just kind of ridiculous and that could be a really good test for ojha laurie if he gets matched up on him. If morgan moses winds up playing the right tackle position now that that is a different test but not a bad one for the for the rookie edge. Either but then you know the jets do actually have some interesting wide receivers for the giants secondary to go against you know. The corey davis mentioned elijah. More jamison crowder denzel mims yet. This isn't a receiving core that is completely devoid of talent at least not anymore so that could also make for some interesting matchups with the giants secondary. We could get to see adore jackson in a in a good matchup right off the bat. You know we could get to see how the giants us all of the safeties. They have on their roster. And that's something. I think we really should be paying attention to even if we don't get the real juicy stuff like all of the coverage rotations and exotic blitz. We know our in patrick grams playbook we could against start to see just the general shape of the defense do they play more man coverage than we saw last year which i think is something they definitely wanted to. I'm not entirely sure how much we'll get exposed to defensively. And i feel like knowing what we briefly no of patrick graham from his one season as the defensive coordinator. He's probably not going to tip his his hand too much During this first preseason game. But we're talking about guys who are needing to prove themselves we. We've talked a lot throughout the leading up to the preseason during training camp specific position battles that we are locked in on. And i think that this first game is going to be important for setting the tone for specific matchups so one of the ones that we've mentioned a lot is danny danny sheldon austin johnson. One who gets the most wraps who does the best and possibly in this situation who ends up getting the most reps might be the clearest indication of who's going to be the backup guy to starter if you don't need to see as much from whoever you're more confident you might throw in the other guy and give them more opportunities than you also might have them running with the second and third group. The other thing too. I think is going to be the bayer one here. Defensively is where two guys lineup. At the edge position who gets put where who runs with which units and you mentioned earlier. Nick oceans immunise like. That's a guy who needs to come out and ball if he wants to prove himself to stick on this roster that is really going to be super super important. I think is how old is she. Zimmerman play and then also just in general. We're to some of these other players get put in. How do they lineup looking. Forward to a man. I really am just because we haven't seen football a while you know it. It's back now. August is an awesome month from that standpoint and also from fantasy standpoint. let's hope. September and october are also months giants fans. Because i feel like it's been a while since they have been these. Oh and five stars these owen. Six starts to get old really quick at. There's a lot of optimism about this team right now. A lot of it's warranted but let's hope the The things that could hold a giants back actually. Don't toke offense of line. develops continuity they need. Let's hope daniel jones takes a step in his development..

"Team that has the most federal price right. Now is the new york giants and i and i'm glad that you're on. I'm glad you're on board with me. As far as the narratives are concerned. Because i have a question if the eagles don't lay down in the fourth quarter against washington in week seventeen sunday football and the giants get in the playoffs at six and ten as the nfc east champion. What is how you can see teams differently right now. I've done this many times. It's a totally different perspective. You're a one hundred percent right now. Let me just say this. I am not a believer that if jalen hurts stays in the game that's like a guarantee that phillies going to win the game. Washington was really even with hurts in the game. The better team that night now sud fell didn't give them a better chance to win. The game hurts. Gave him a better chance to win. But i still think washington may have won that game in one division. I think the bigger issue you know in terms of last year in the nfc east is. It's a no brainer. That if saquon barkley played last year the giants would have won the division. If dak prescott had been healthy dallas would've won the division going away even with that defense in washington lost to the giants twice last year and they beat the cowboys with dalton and deneuve cheer doodo or whatever the dude's name from james madison was so i do. I agree with you. I think that there would be a much different narrative had they not made the playoffs at seven and nine. Let's just say they went. Seven and nine dallas went nine and seven with prescott And they went to the post season. I think there'd be a completely different perspective now. The defense people were on the defense even before last year began And by the way. I'll take it a step further as far as the playoff game. Even though the truth is the defense got absolutely torched the strength of the team there. Is this perception in this takeaway eric. That washington played the eventual champions. Really tough and it was a competitive game. it was. They didn't get blown out at home to to to brady And the buccaneers but Yeah i agree with you. I think it would i think people would have. I don't right now. I think the giants would be the second pick in the division even by odds makers because i like the giant roster to. I think that they are very capable this year. Yeah there's an. There's an dull ding that good things about washington. I think the defensive line is amazing. I really liked it. William jackson acquisition cameron crowe was awesome last year. I think look at the offense. I'm taking nothing away from terry mclaren. Nothing away from it to get the net and frankly nothing away from ryan fitzpatrick. We've had three s really. Did you go as backup quarterback. The question is is like that's like they're in sort of jv. And the question is kennedy varsity team with with that like kennedy step up in sort of in sort of class and you look at the giants like patrick rams defensive coordinator jibril peppers at an awesome. Your daydream mckinney's in the second year. James bradbury was an amazing and signing for the last year has was like martinez you know. They have leonard williams in the front like defend.

"The field or will this be a straight up competition for one guy to start in the other to take a secondary backseat role at this position and working in with the secondary. So guys with darna homes and aaron robinson. How do you feel about this. Who do you think is going to be starting at this position in. Who do you think wins the battle. We i need to see an robinson. Get training camp but again. That could happen really any time. It's just a core muscle. He's i believe dealing with at all off season so hopefully that happens soon in say that it does. I honestly think it's not hot. Take to surmise that aaron robinson could by the end of the year earned more snaps. Darn homes but. I don't know if that's going to be based on slot coverage because i think darnay homes. You can move outside if you need to put them in the box a little bit more. He did that at. Ucf at star of player hybrid safety hybrid type of linebacker. He actually did that in college even though he's technically a cornerback doesn't necessarily have to build but real passing situations. Ab you can use him in that type of alignment which would lead to more snaps for him. Because i feel like darna. Homes is only going to play slot and that's kind of where he's designed play terms of skill sets. I mean they're both incredible. Athletes homes is a five star product out of california and robinson didn't have that kind of pedigree coming out of high school but he just bawled out last year for. Ucf cleaned up is tackling showed up better ability. I would say run support in even with shedding blocks diagnosing all the mental skills that you need to play defense which was really really imperative. Patrick rams defense as well. So i think it's going to be a good battle. Also bought are at the end of the day. I wouldn't be shocked if it is aaron robinson. Kind of getting a little bit more. I felt darning homes was fine last year but there were times where he was getting picked on a lot of the times. It was more schematic than just necessarily skill set but were extended plays specifically against seattle. Where i felt like our homes lost his coverage assignment and it was tyler lockett or something like that and he just gets tunnel vision. That's something that can be corrected with more reps but those mistakes persist. I could see coaching staff going and saying okay. Let's get robinson a little bit more of a shot in the slot. See how that looks. The nikki news homes when robinson and other roles i think just zoom out a little bit. How patrick graham deploys. All of these defensive backs is going to be really interesting because they just added a dory jackson. They've still got julian love. They've got logan ryan. They've got jarrow peppers. They've got mckinney back there. Then we've got donate homes in robinson and so many options and that i think just to talk about storylines we're gonna watch and to link to that aspect is going to be really interesting to me over the course of training camp and preseason preseason now with this battle in particular i think it might come down to again assuming robinson.

"Year. Thirty point seven million dollar contract with nine thousand nine hundred million dollars guaranteed so slightly more than ten million dollars per year and it was ridiculed by a lot of people. Lash was ridiculed by a lot of draft by draft pundits but nfl pundits and people who just wanted to slam dave gettleman for going out and signing a linebacker who is great and covered. I gotta tell you is deals looking great lick martinez making slightly more than ten million impact. That he has in. Patrick rams system patrick graham getting the most out of him getting the peppers. Get the most. That are james. Bradberry and the most leonard williams. I mean patrick grams. Great in that sense. I broke that down last week but blake martinez had a career with the giants in terms of impact. But this is also somebody who's at over. One hundred tackles every year since twenty seventeen. You watch the film. This guy is always position. Has guys always playing that mental game with running backs guy is so tough for for linebackers to really get up to the second level and that's also a product of grand scheme or uses those type fronts but blake martinez is also such a quick processor and he reads his keys and he diagnosis. What he sees so well. That is rarely ever fooled. Rarely ever out of position and he's really really good at filling a. b. c. gap's getting outside the d. gap. There's a tight end. There and the giants have for two more years to season. And the next. But this guy blake martinez. He's he's definitely somebody that giants got at. I would say a somewhat value at this point with the cat continuing to go up and this was before. Covert orders as. Kobe was hitting when the giants signed. This player. didn't know that there would probably be a lot of You know concerns about the cap growing with cap is going to grow. Still the giants have martinez and he. Such an perta part of this is such an important part of this defense lake. Take crowder but something happens. Blake martinez the giants looking at. Hey crowder devante downs. Reggie ragland as the starters. The defense isn't going to be nearly as effective. They're not so great for fred. Warren i wonder is one of the best in the league. I don't think martinez in the top five linebacker reading you start entertaining him definitely in the top ten and yeah he might not have the man coverage upside but a lot of people want linebackers but he's one of the but he does such a good job in his own and he's one of the best run defending linebackers. I just wanted to kind of talk about the the contract that he has and how it looks pretty solid right now. 'cause significantly less money than what was given to to fred warner and it's also signed for only three years which coincides well was a lot of expiring contracts. The giants daniel jones saquon barkley lot of decisions. That may have to be made on those young players. Give the giants some flexibility. Pass twenty twenty two and you know. The giants went out and twenty twenty one this off season and signed a lot more people. That's going to make that flexibility. Not as flexible in twenty twenty two but hopefully they can get a little bit creative down. The line opened up some cats baseball caps going to continue to grow. We've seen teams maneuver the cabin manipulate the cap so much over the last ten or twelve years specifically the philadelphia eagles in the new orleans. Saints they come to my mind but yeah wanted tip my cap. Patrick wanna blake martinez. And that's.

"Unless he looks insanely unprepared during training camp and they don't feel comfortable putting him out there on the field but considering he was a second round pick a guy who many considered to be a first round talent. As long as these fully healthy -ocial ari is going to be on the field in playing. Because they're going to want him out there one to develop but also because he's an explosive guy that is going to create some some good opportunities for this defense. I do agree with you though chris. It's who gets on the field more between anderson and odor ningbo because both of them journeymen have have similar. Relatively similar styles skill sets but both having the opportunity to really prove them prove themselves in needing to prove themselves as that go to secondary pass. Rusher yeah and they're both basically the same size. Anderson is six to two fifty. Five ningbo is six three to fifty eight. They're almost the same age just a few months apart. They came at both came out of the twenty seventeen draft. It's going to be interesting. I think to see who really who winds up getting the the larger share of the defensive. Snap count because i think you you phrased perfectly that which edge defenders are on. The field is really going to come down to game situation. The style of defense the giants playing on that particular down. I think we will see a pretty healthy rotation out there. og lori will probably be the fixture the guy who is on the field the most but we're going to see a bunch of different guys out there both to get different skill sets on the field and to keep everybody well rested throughout the game and yeah. The crew. Trajectories of anderson in ningbo are pretty interesting. Anderson was a highly regarded player. Coming out of alabama whose drafted in the second round parmi draft in the second round of the twenty seventeen draft. Boy he never really played up to what was expected of him based on his career alabama. Yeah he has. I believe six career sacks most of which came in twenty nineteen and most of that came in one game against the philadelphia eagles owed ningbo. He was a seventh round pick and he has ten and a half career sacks but most of those again came in twenty nineteen where he had a really big season as a backup. He started every game. He was active for in twenty twenty and he wasn't able to replicate the success he had as a rotational player. So we'll be able to take that next step. Under patrick ramming the giants coaching staff. Or is he is he just best as a rotational guy. And i think that will be interesting to see. You're definitely going to be interesting to see how things work out with those two players. And i think that the other conversation we now have is who ends up being the other rotational names and faces get onto the field and as we discussed or we've already brought up. Patrick ram really does like to get as many different heads in there as possible based on certain circumstances and situations in the group right now that you see that fits into that conversation. He's zim as opening. Bow or anderson depending on who wins that job or whoever proves themselves the most but separate from to them cam brown. In ellison smith i feel depending on how comfortable they are with ellison smith because of his current development though probably try to find a way to work him onto the field maybe a little bit later on in some of these other players but he definitely has the physical traits to go out there and be competitive and just take up some space and maybe create some pressures. The bear conversation then becomes though does zimmerman as do brown get opportunities to get onto the field often because one oceans jimenez some consider him to be a cut candidate because of his lack of ability to be fully healthy and on the field. He was injured last year. Kenny stay healthy. Can you prove himself during camp can even potentially push himself into these starter conversation. Which seems like something. We've talked about for the last two years since his rookie season we've been waiting for him to ascend and take that next step. Forward camp brown is probably. I think less likely to really carve out a lot of time in this rotation. He is going to make this roster more for his effort that he provides on special teams. We saw a lot of that from cam brown last year. He busts his ads on special teams. Which is allowed him to stick around but we do know. The coaching staff has spoken very highly. On how much. He has gradually improved in the way that he finished last season and the giants are eventual very special teams centric team. That's kind of what happens when you have special teams coaches your head coach. And then you've got to career. Special teams were nader's running your special teams like they pay particular attention to that side of the game and having really good special teams. Chops is a great way to distinguish yourself on the back end of a roster and make the squad which will give you a chance to get on the field on offense or defense. Yeah depending on what. You're what you're not gonna position is so i think that does bode well for cam brown. Yep oceans jimenez. When he is healthy he is a really polished pass. Rusher he is not a particularly explosive guy. He isn't big. He isn't super strong. He isn't hyper athletic. but coming. Out of old dominion he actually had really good pass rushing technique so while he might never be a an explosive. Big sacked number rusher. He's a guy you can. As long as he's healthy feel comfortable having out there like he's going to be disciplined in in run defense. He's going to provide some pressure as a pass rusher and for a rotational guy a backup..

"They'll be considered list next year. And the man and this is probably really homer by offering new york giants. And if you look at the other three teams. I don't really see any other safety. That would even compete got kiana. Neil who's a safety linebacker hybrid for dallas coming over from dan quinn's team when he was the head. Coach of the falcons. He's a solid player. I think cameron curl would be realistic. Probably next selection for the safeties who was a rookie for washington could drop down in the nickel and play. Overhangs really really solid player. But i went with djibril peppers. Logan ryan xavier mckinney. Look i think brill. Peppers really kinda came into his own last year. Under patrick rams similar to blake martinez leonard williams and james bradberry. I think he's very very versatile. You can line them up in the boxing's not going to be a liability against the ron against teams. Who want to get a little heavier. He's a little bit more versatile and drop into covered man up on tight ends. You could take deep half responsibilities. i mean. I don't think he's really tailor made for the center field roving type of responsibilities. That might be a little bit. More xavier mckinney might be a little bit more julian love but what gebriel can offer you in terms of run support man coverage and understanding how to play zone coverage and have spatial awareness to understand how zone match pass guys off something that he i feel struggled with a little bit james becher but did a better job with this season not really came into his own so he was an easy selection logan ryan his leadership and experience and ability to get everybody setup pre post snap while also being an excellent robert trap type coverages with patron made him an easy selection and then xavier mckinney somebody. We hardly saw last year. Who i think could be prime similar to dexter lawrence to a breakout season this year. With patrick cramp somebody who can drop into those deep centerfield responsibilities. Cover one type of coverages middle. The fuel closed type coverages. He'll be fine. The deep half middle the field open type covered split safety looks and i think he can bring him down having play overhang against big slots tight ends while. He's also probably not gonna hurt you as a run defender. Has he comes from. Nick saban system. It's a complex defense. He flies in with reckless abandon good angles to the football and make solid tackles and i think i would take him over cameron curl or kiani so all three of these safeties and coming from the new york football giants and i don't think that's neat and being a homer i think that's just being objective but tell me if i'm wrong. That's one hundred percent. Find too and this is a list of fifteen. Nfc east players. There are seven giants on it. And i get it. But the giants defense is solid so as washington. Washington's defense is very very solid specifically that front and like i said i think iran paying made this but those edge rushers are insane. No ed rushers for the giants that even were considered for this list. If we're going to be honest and we want to look at totals now of nfc east teams on offense and defense at thirty guys. Giants had eleven and lot of them. Come on the defensive side and the her couple that i would might change like the nick gates one from last week. I'd probably put chase we in there the football team they had eight and i mean it's hard to argue against a lot of the eight other than maybe jamin davis i would say is somebody that probably could get booted off the list in favor of mike parsons men. The eagles had six and the cowboys at five. All being on the offense. And that's the nfc east podcast everybody. I hope you guys enjoy this please. "I think the linebacker position in the nfc east is in good hands. Right now with mike. Parsons engine in davis which sucks for the new york giants because the second level defenders who can drop into cupboard and can be effective as blitzer which i believe davis and mike parsons bolt will be. It's going to be annoying for the giants going to be annoying for our protection. Package that consists of an elder statesman. Being will hernandez was twenty. Five years old some manipulation. They're going up against incredible athletes. When it scheme to properly by guys like dan quinn and by guys like jack. Del rio solid defensive coordinators. And i mean. You can't get much worse than worse than what mike nolan was last year. So it's going to be annoying. Let's go onto the cornerbacks now though all right my number one cornerback in this division. Don't believe this is home. Arisen the secondary from the new york giants. Willy billy solid end. James bradbury has a shot. I would say to be considered as a top five cornerback in the national football league last year. now he didn't run too many men coverage assignments. I mean patrick. Ram was much more zone oriented. But you would see him on the backside of through by one sets lined up against true number one type receivers in meg coverage which is man everywhere he goes and he did solid doing and then when they were in zone the giants always roll their safeties tour towards the opposite side of where james bradbury was entrusting james bradberry with that covered so having that stable quarterback one is is very advantageous for defense playcallers. 'cause then you can roll your safety coverage and your other zone coverages towards a bigger liability which giants had last year. But this year. They don't and i'm going to go into who the third cornerback was right. Now since it's a new york giant. And that is a dory jackson okay and there are a couple different corners. You can go with here. So i've slept at four corners one's going to be a slot in the second boundary corner. We'll get into in a little bit but then we have a third guy. Who's a little bit more interchangeable. That's dorie jackson because dory jackson. Ken lineup in the slot. He did that for the tennessee. Titans plenty of times. And he's also a boundary cornerback. Who has the hips and athletic ability. To play. man cupboard has shown discipline. At the line of scrimmage and is solid at the catch point being physical and isn't a liability as a run defender despite the fact that he's a bit undersized now his issues have been due to injuries and things like that. It came back last year. Got torched by davante adams in the snow up in green bay. We can try the toss that season out. Okay we can but we need to see young player. Be healthy in a system that i feel. I can really unlock his skill. Set and with coaches like jerome henderson. Like patrick ram that can really maximize what he can do. And he's only twenty five years old right now. Like i considered william jackson the third who are longer cornerback. Maybe not a scheme versatile who was just signed by the wash him football team to make this list. He's a twenty eight year old player. But i think dorie jackson could be in for a really special season under the tutelage of this specific coaching staff. And you know what. The coaching staff and a team thinks as well because they invested a lot of money into him. So i brought dorie jackson and to be the second corner or the third cornerback of this group of the second. Cornerback is darius slay yet. He's thirty years old. But i don't believe he's falling off all that much right now. I really don't think it was a bad year for philadelphia. And now you're going to see him kinda restabilize or at least attempt to re stabilize himself on this philadelphia. Eagles team that you know what. There's not a lot of positive outlooks for philly right now but when you watch the film you could still see. That sleigh has has a good skill set to back to back up his play right now now. It's not as dominant as it was when he was on the detroit. Lions and he was manning up number one receivers. But i do believe it's still solid enough to be the number two cornerback that i would select from this division because it's kind of a drop off after daria slanting bradbury's a clear cut one like i thought blake martinez was clear-cut first linebacker mainly due to experience. Because you could make an argument. That mike parsons actually is or german. Davis possibly is because mike parsons is very very unique as an athlete and as a football player rookies. So you've got the experience. They prove in their productive now. Bradberry is that as well. He really took an the next step. And patrick graham system. Which is something. I really wanna hit home. Both blake martinez. James bradberry leonard williams are veteran players. Who played with multiple defensive coordinators yet. They have just unlocked their potential. They actualized what they can do on the football field. And let's not forget it. The reason why that's happening is because this coaching staff putting these players into the optimal positions. Because of patrick ram. It's because of joe judge. That is a great thing to recognize about this young coaching staff. And when joe judge got this team when he said we want teachers. We don't want coaches. We want to teach these guys and it seems like all. Three of those veteran players really took their game to the next level within patrick graham system. They're feeding off the. There's a confidence there and you can even group injured girl peppers internet groups four veteran players there. That's an awesome realization to come to. Let's hope it kind of carries into twenty twenty one. But that's what james bradberry did he really just came into his own and he was a solid above average player. A really solid number. Two i think is how i classified him coming out of carolina. You know that is a really solid number two cornerback. He might not be a number one. But under patrick graham and what he did last year he certainly was a number one. I mean he was always around. The football is quick. Closed was great. His vision and his route con is understanding of route concepts of winter. Break when to his spatial awareness. Just all those things kind of all came together and force a lot of turnovers whether it was him knocking the ball in the air for an interception for darn homes julian love or whatever or just him intercept the ball by himself he really came into his own twenty twenty and he could build on that darius slay i think he's in a war situation if i do say so i mean we'll we'll see what the defense does there for the philadelphia eagles. I'm not one hundred percent certain. How good that team is going to be under nick serianni by. I still think he is. That second corner went with the door jackson three. And then the slop. Romy would go down in washington kendall fuller. Somebody who was traded away from washington went to the chiefs came back to washington. He's twenty six years old. And i feel like. He's one of the more underrated players in the national football league as a cornerback because he man's that slot he's not that big but he really kind of shuts down the slot and does a good job tackling guys after the catch. I mean he's solid tackling cornerback. Despite the fact that he is sub two hundred pounds and he's also somebody who just is a bit more proven the darnay homes of the world bit more proven than the slot. Be jordan. Lewis is somebody. I thought of who can play outside. He can play in the slot. Somebody i realistically sought of. Anthony browne as well and then philadelphia. Their slot situation is kvant seymour. And sometimes they put them onto a maddox there. But he's more so when outside guys so what i was thinking about. Slot kendall fuller was the easy player to choose. Hopefully darnay homes or aaron robinson. Kinda take their game to the next level there..

"You can align him more on the outside if you would like to as a five technique as a four technique durant pains a little bit more set to be that one technique possibly to do i shade type of players. That is the reason. Why ended up going with jon allen but it was a tough choice to make because a lot of those defensive lineman are incredibly skilled and i really could have settled on any all six of them to be honest with the ron payne. Tavon hargrave dextra lawrence but only selecting fifteen guys here. So let's move to the edge and two edges in particular automatically came to my mind and they both play for the team. And that is the washington football team chase. Young is an absolute study. Finish the year with forty two pressures and six sacks which isn't really indicative of what he hand do. I mean we saw with the giants. Jason garrett was game planning to avoid chase young and not allow chase young to go up against andrew thomas in matt pair on an island. It's not what you want. The twenty two year old is only going to get better within the defensive system that he plays in playing opposite montas sweat who also has to be considered for this listening made the list. i mean through two seasons. He has eighty-one pressures and eighteen sacks according to pro football focus again. They don't count. You know have sex so take that for what it's worth but he's just built like the ideal edge. Rusher ninety seven th percentile. Wingspan incredibly long arms can set a firm. Edge has the ability to rush. The passer string pass rush moves. Together that is dynamic duo rushing the passer with chase young and monta sweat so that was my one and my to the first two guys came to my mind and then the third one. I ended up going with brandon. Graham and i went with him. Because i do like the fact that the eagles and they did this a lot in twenty seventeen on the actually ended up getting a sack doing this in twenty seventeen when they kicked him inside to play re technique in passing situations sacking. Brady something that the eagles and jim schwartz love to do. And he's thirty three now so i probably should have went with demarcus lawrence to be honest because their stats aren't too different and demarcus lawrence is significantly younger. He's twenty nine years old demarcus lawrence had forty seven total pressures. You've been nine of them. Were against the giants in week. Five when he was just owning cameron fleming and andrew thomas and he ended up having seven sacks as well but branding grammy at fifty-six pressures eight sacks season. He's just one of those consistent type of players who nobody really talks about all that much. But somebody who i always. Every time i walked the all twenty two of the eagles the giants. I come away saying damn that guy is just such a smart player. He's never had a position and he had a slight decline in production because in twenty one thousand nine hundred he had the sixty eight pressures but he's still very very effective and i think he's a player that i always respected his game against the run. I love the way he rush. Passer how smart. He is on stunts in twists. And how he plays with excellent gap discipline and whatever whatever simon that he's assigned he's never putting himself in a position where he's not going to execute his assignment. He's incredibly smart but to overlook demarcus. Lawrence may have been a mistake on my part. And maybe it's the bias that didn't want any dallas cowboy defenders at such a trashier that they had under mike nolan on this list. I don't think it's necessarily that. But then when i look the linebackers and i didn't have dallas cowboys linebacker on the list. I started thinking you know what. Nick how objective or you here. There were no cowboys on this list. Demarcus lawrence and mike. Parsons probably should've made it or at least deserve heavy consideration in making this list over the guys like brandon graham and then german davis since will transition to the linebacker davis made this list. He wouldn't have been my first linebacker choice. That's obviously blake martinez. Who is now twenty. Seven years old. And i feel like he's just an absolute stud that not a lot of people talk about. He's more of a downhill. React attack type. Linebacker not going to excel dropping into man covered or doing anything like that which is the popularized version of linebackers in the modern nfl. But this is somebody according to pro football reference. Who's had over one hundred and forty tackles in every year since his rookie season outside of his rookie season. That's absolutely insane. He's played for three separate defensive. Coordinators mike patton dom capers and now patrick ram. We saw. How goudie was in patrick. Graham system specifically when graham would align in those type fronts in the early rushing downs and those type fronts. I mean. I makes it hard for those deuce ace blocks to climb to the linebackers especially when the linebackers are so instinctive. And they're so good a plane that count cat and mouse game with the running back on those inside zone type runs where it's like martinez just reads. The intentions of the running back puts himself into a position to make that running back. Second guessing by that point. Everything is just collapsing on the running bag. We haven't seen as giants fans people who cover the giants linebacker like blake martinez in quite a long time. It has been a really really long time since somebody like. Martinez has kind of walk through those giants doors. Jon beason. he was solid but he was just injured way too often and just did not see enough of him on the football field. And then you have antonio peers and blake martinez came in. I mean replaces alec will train. It's night and day difference between martinez an allegory. It's incredible and martinez. The first linebacker that i wanted to choose for this list. I think mike parsons could realistically made it over. Jimmy davis. If i'm going to be honest. I mean you still have guys. That clinton van rush didn't have fifth year. Option picked up always injured. Jalen smith is a good weak side type of linebacker who had a down year last year. Washington outside of german. Davis doesn't necessarily have anybody that you're going to consider and then philadelphia. I just feel like they always neglect the linebacker position. Despite the fact that they spent a third round. Pick on a couple of years ago. Back in twenty twenty but to me like martinez. Easy one. And then mike parsons. Jim davis. That is a really really solid discussion to have. But i'll say about jamin davis a unique incredible athlete. Who's bill like the modern day. Linebacker want to close throwing windows and drop into coverage has the man coverage ability is maybe a bit raw but when you look at mike. Parsons you're like well. You know what mike. Parsons has a lot of those similar athletic characteristics and the way i rationalize it in the article was jamin. Davis is a bit more stable as a personality. And i don't know mike parsons at all. It's just reports that his personality may be a little bit detrimental and he may need a handler quote unquote the probably all you know s. leaving all bs but it's probably maybe some exaggeration. Goma jamin davis which again just like demarcus lawrence ended up resulting in another cowboy not making the list that could have made the list and then no cowboys on this list. So take that for one days but before we get into anymore of this go into the secondary all that jazz. Let's take a quick break here. Word from our sponsors support for this episode comes.

demarcus lawrence giants blake martinez andrew thomas jon allen ron payne Tavon hargrave dextra lawrence matt pair eagles montas football cameron fleming Jason garrett Demarcus lawrence jim schwartz mike parsons monta Graham martinez patrick ram

"I was getting ready to start high school. In the fall and requirement of my high school's advanced placement curriculum was to do job shadowing at a week. I decided to job shadow. My dad the same week. The shareware version of quake was released. This was especially convenient because his office was the only access. I had to computers powerful enough to run quake and a t one line that could download it in a reasonable amount of time. Now ever the reason my experience really stands out is where my father worked in ninety-six lieutenant colonel in the army stationed in dc long story short. I'm fairly certain. I'm the first person to ever play quake inside the pentagon from. That's a good story. That's that's dope tremendous. That's out as well because when they asked about like you're working could be classified got to some shares slipped gates They're working all kinds of crazy stuff over there. Patrick rams in the pentagon think can always been the case. A eric in springfield writes in and says follow on who would win in a kiss versus aqua bats fight kiss does possess superpowers and put them on display in the hanna. Barbera made for tv. Movie kiss meets. The phantom of the park really space man can shoot lasers and teleport peter chris aka the catman has superhuman agility and leaping powers all stanley aka star child can control and read minds. Gene simmons ak the demon has superhuman strength and can breathe fire not allowing anyone in the presence to speak of the movie. And peter. chris's acting being so bad. They had a dub over all his lines. I consider economical and definitive proof that they would defeat the aqua bats in battle guys talk about psycho circus. This came up. No no no someone needs to pick for for the you treasures they got. I thought you wanted be good game. Yeah the thing. I'll say to eric here is that i did consider kiss meets the phantom of the park when we had our conversation last. Wow that they are so ineffective and terrible that I don't think it sways the at all in favor no impact. Yeah no that movie you. It's worth taking a look at If if you haven't seen it it's it's a magical moment of cinema. It's a real train wreck of a film. It's people i guess i never. I guess i kind of knew about this people fucking hey kiss like people. Just hate that band pink. I think he the more and more time goes on. But i guess kiss was before my time so i i never really wrap my head around sort was just like oh these guys like i dig their costumes for when it for what it was when i was like twelve and i made aware of what kiss was but people fuck in hate them. Holy shit. I think when kiss the first time i was like seeing like modern kiss or like hey kisses putting out stop. It was when they took the face paint off. It was like that ono. No they're fucking cousteau. Mtv or whatever. Like villette filibustering. They let the music speak for itself. I think over the years. There's probably a couple of kiss songs that i would call catchy but i fucking hate kids like a guy who a couple songs i think are pretty good but man i just think his fucking sucks. Gene simmons epa insecure. He seems and core. Did this stuff so much better. Yeah i mean you know. Kiss to walk for them to rondo. Was the kiss get credit for that for being the cost me metal or the costume rock band. There's got to just like in the like invent and then reinvent how to merchandise band. I think that's the thing that i learned from is 'cause icp's merchandise game is like crazy not incorrect. But i don't know if they make. And i don't know that they made comic books that have their own blood in them. The way Did the case makes soda or they don't even make no interest adopted the fago right. Yeah yeah that's maybe the dumbest business move. Icp's give way if you are paying to throw that bego iran if you really like icp's song miracles then you will love fast night. Yeah wow what a jump. We are forgetting hooper. the checkpoints points out alice cooper. This completely irrelevant might as well then. Yeah hell you fucking coupon. In wayne's world people talk show people trying to link that maybe kisses also tangentially responsible for the tubers. Oh how do you make that. Jump out a single who had no. What kiss is you talk about it. No way the line is somewhere there. It's somewhere there is. There's probably this probably something there James in missouri writes in. What games do you want to see. Become backwards compatible On xbox that may never get there. My top. Three or max payne three articles of riddick and aliens versus predator. Extinction riddick is. Yeah riddick is a really solid choice. There max payne three would play the pc version of that still pretty sick looking to those game. Yeah that's such a good game. God thank you yeah. I'm trying to think of any other games. That would games. That would never get there. Usually think of like licensed games or games with very heavy licensed soundtracks. That would be hard to redo at this point.

"But it's still going to fall on the shoulders of daniel jones. And if he can make half the jump. That josh allen made last year then. I think you re looking at a team. That could possibly win this. Nfc east and be really really salting the roster daniel jones is pretty darn good. I mean the office of line question. Mark be look at the skill position players significant upgrade from last year. And then you look at the defense. I mean they didn't really lose all that much. Retain leonard williams. They'll dalvin tomlinson. Which is unfortunate but retained leonard williams. You still have to throw pebbles. You get healthy xavier mckinney. You have james. Bradberry still have blake martinez. You had a lot of those role players that were really really important. What patrick ram wanted to do in the two main losses that you had worked dalvin tomlinson who that one sucks. Don't get me wrong but then you will all schuyler factual but you replaced him with guys. Like ziesel larry ellison smith i video dental bow and then ryan anderson so really is just dalvin tomlinson and i think danny shelton can perform dalvin tomlinson role. At maybe a fiftieth percentile of dalvin. Tomlinson was thomson was such a stud. But i do believe that you anchor down. Eat up those gaps and allow all the players around use specific. They'll linebackers when you're in those type. Franz scrape over the top and make plays on the football. And that's what you're going to hope for. That's what you hoped any shelton can do. It doesn't have to be as dynamic as dalvin tomlinson. But i do believe just to go back to my original point. If daniel jones takes that step half step of what josh allen did. You're looking at a potential playoff team here. And that's what we all hope. We have playoff rations all these editions. They don't make the playoffs then they'd get home is probably going to retire. Apartment on fire will probably retire and depending on what they do. If they elevate kevin abrams. Or if they bring in someone from the outside daniel jones you have to make that that decision on their fifth year option. And i'm just not a hundred percent certain that's going to happen. Daniel jones has another ho-hum type of season if he implodes any employees. And that's not going to happen. It's going to be a mitchell. Trubisky type of situation is going to be signing. But daniel jones is on you so i just wanted to briefly go over. That dog miller had the giants at twenty one sandwiched in between the cincinnati bengals. Twenty two and the denver broncos at twenty broncos also have a really really good roster but their quarterback position is even a little bit more uncertain and daniel jones in terms of longevity. I would say because drew lock has still a lot of proven. The have teddy bridgewater is going to be a quarterback battle there at least daniel jones knows this is his job but now's the time to seize it all right. What other nfl news. We have this kind of important. I guess because the giants had three opt-outs last year with demari. Scott nate solder and sam bill. Nfl players association gave july second deadline for opting out of twenty twenty one. Now tom pella. Sarah reported this it's on. Nfl dot com. Now it's going to be. I think the same as last year players deemed risk for kobe. Again going to be entitled to three hundred and fifty thousand dollars is going to be a stipend but those voluntary opt outs who aren't deemed high risk or only to receive one hundred and fifty thousand. Now i don't believe there's going to be as many opt-outs as last year. There were sixty seven players that opted out of the twenty twenty season. Seems like there's a lot more knowledge about kobe. nineteen a lot more people are vaccinated and obviously it wasn't a vaccine last year. So i'm curious as to what the opt-out numbers going to be in two thousand twenty one but july second is the date that has been set by the national football league by the nfl players association. And then last thing. I wanna talk about which is great news for the nfl or people in general is called. Acid mean karl came out is gay. And he's donating thousand dollars to the trevor project which is nonprofit provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention services for the lgbtq community specifically the younger people within that community and call nasa announced this and it blew up everywhere. And i think it's great news because there isn't a current wasn't a current professional athlete who openly gay. Remember michael sam. He was drafted. He was a defensive end out of missouri and going to the national football league. Didn't really make it there. But now carl massive. Who's been in. The nfl for several years came out and this is how he did. It won't carl nasa. I remember house here. Westchester twenty two. Quick to say that. I'm gang this for awhile now but i feel comfortable.

"Stuff that stood out Was was more about you know the way. He described the kind of players that he knows his coaching staff looking for. I thought that was interesting. How he described specifically linebackers as they want guys who can do more than one thing In you know so and that made me think of you know. There's a lot of talk about them going after edge rusher. I don't think japs and that russia early. I don't think it's going to be a guy is just a straight forecast russia. I think that's why somebody mike parsons becomes more interesting to me and and you know guys like that who can do multiple things lineup at multiple spots. 'cause i think aligns at patrick rams defensive stuff generally i think they probably weren't showing their hand too much. I think tweeted this earlier. Like i've changed my mind about. Who i think the giants. You're gonna draft about one hundred times last week. I think there's so many different directions they can go. It's very interesting. It's kind of fun to cover. Go and instant mystery but Yeah the biggest takeaways i mean. It's pretty clear they're gonna go after an edge rusher. It seems like they're high rushing this class a little more than people that are covering the draft are so. I'm gary interested to see how they address opposition. And we're we're talking with zach rosenblatt from nj dot com on sports talk new york zach Before we'll see if you can give us your pick before you wrap up of the sniper Who are on social media and otherwise who are the fans clamoring for who the top guy that giant fans are reaching out to you. Try you know that they want more than any other out. The number one is probably devante. Smith the how bam receiver. Obviously one is the last year I mean he's the he's always gonna be a guy that a fan base is gonna fall in love with because quote unquote sexy. Pick and now the big name. I'm actually seen a lot of fans pining for translator. The opposite lyman from western. And there's a lot of apartments a lot too. Because i think people really like his talented like so. I i tweeted. I asked the question of fans last week. are we could be week or to. What get drafted would make you the most angry. And they're pretty much like you'll be happy with everybody except for if they reach the generally. Actually i think i'd eleven. They're pretty good spot to get somebody really good. If you have five quarterbacks go ahead of them which is a real possibility so then that pushes them really players down to them. So they're going to be able to choose between some on. Mike smith or jalen lotto parsons or even one of the corners. Like patrick ser tan. Jc horn-like the they're gonna they're gonna wind up with a blue chip prospect which is a pretty big deal for a team. And do you have any intel on any rumored picks that the front office definitely does not want i honestly. There hasn't really been much about what they don't want I would say you know. I like i said i keep going back and forth in the kind of guys..

"I was looking up. Daniel ponce daily on find out a little bit more about him and And i thought he was a california kid. 'cause i remember hearing interviewed one time. Wikipedia says daniel de leon pitcher cardinals. Click here click. Says he's a professional boxer. That's from mexico like yeah. I don't think that's him. Go out on a limb. I don't think that's the record. We'll bring him in and around eleven forty remember. He got hit in the head at Wrote a book about it one. Eight hundred eight seven eight play as i mentioned the franchise tag just a reminder and i think it's good not just for you if i'm patronizing dollar t pop me. It's good for me to remember this. And so the franchise tag is as we know. It's a one year contract and they come in two forms cursive and print. No exclusive and non exclusive exclusive restrict negotiating rights to the tagging team and pay out an average of the top five salaries of the players physician in the current year or one hundred twenty percent of the players previous salary whichever is greater non-exclusive tags a little more common as they pay out the average of the top five sorry the players position for the previous five years which you also apply to the current cap or one hundred twenty percent but they may last year whichever was greater again the players who received this tag can negotiate with other teams but the tagging team has the right to match any offer and would also receive two first round picks in the event that you did science guy. And we've seen it happen. Bobby beth or did it wants the really average linebacker guy brown and then the transition tax those are one year contracts. They pay out of average of the top ten hours of the position players who received this tack hand negotiate with other teams. The tag team has the right to offer match the offer and if the tagging team declined to match it doesn't get anything back so you'd say well why wouldn't everybody just to exclusive because it will cost you more if the guy sticks around it so looking at guys who have been tagged for next year. The broncos are reportedly. it'll be tagging. Justin simmons safety for the second consecutive season. Last year he had ninety six tackles five interceptions nine passes defense and played every. Snap for the broncos. In fact he's played every snap for the broncos defense three years running and so he will make under the franchise tag this coming season. Excuse me eleven. Point one six million carolina. Panthers tackle taylor. Moton has been franchised now. Both sides are looking for the long-term deal in the coming days. Just 'cause you franchises. Meteors stuck with it. You can tear that up and sign. A new deal of both parties are interested. He has played every snap at six over. The last three seasons too. And this is a guy who has only allowed three snaps sax last year three sacks in one thousand fifty seven snaps. He only had one penalty against them all last year. So he'll make a little more than fourteen million. The jets have franchise free safety marcus. Maye as expected and they'll keep them there one more year this is. The guy was a second round pick in two thousand seventeen and he has started game since he's been with the jets six interceptions last year. Two and a half sacks to the giants are reportedly placing the franchise tag on defensive tackle leonard williams again and then that will give them more time to work out a term deal. This guy is one of the best interior linemen and he still had thirty quarterback hits and eleven and a half sacks and you think about undefeated defensive coordinator patrick ram. I mean this guy. He was only behind. Aaron donald and chris jones as far as getting to the quarterback from the interior washington. Football team will once again. Tag their guard brandon. Scherf made fifteen million dollars last year. Now he's gonna make about eighteen million four time pro bowler went to the pro bowl again this year despite missing three games in the knee injury. So he's the first washington player to be named first team. All pro since punter matt turk in nineteen ninety-six allowed just three sacks. Here's the other thing about that stat allowing sacks when you're a tackle. It's still a little bit cold blooded. But i get it. There's a speed rusher. He stiff armed. Do three on the ground. He swam you whatever but when your guard. Let's say the guidelines up your your helmets are almost touching line of scrimmage but there's a stunt on that play and maybe jab step right as the guard you wait for the senator go in front of you and then you go and when i was drawn up plays in high school. I love stunts like that. I would call traps and so you would do a trap. So what if you wanna put guy. And then he gets the sack but you weren't even assigned to block him. You know there are places where the defensive tackle is allowed to go through. And the fullback is the first person who's supposed to touch him. So whatever three sacks allowed tampa bay according to adam schefter is going to be tagging wide receiver. Chris godwin and he made seventeen million dollars last year. He had a great season. Sixty five catches eight hundred and forty yards long most importantly seven touchdowns and did very well in the postseason as well and then Also cam robinson of the jags. Ian rapoport is Reporting that. I wasn't expecting that one. I mean he did. Start every game at left tackle. And i would probably think you're bringing in trevor lawrence and robinson on the season five penalties five sacks allowed. I think that's you know it happens. I don't think that's anything horrible. But he's gonna make about fourteen and a half million dollars right there so You know it's I remember when julius peppers got tagged three times in a row and he said it was just like slavery i understand. He was mad at the time but the other thing too was i looked to dax contract. I it's weird. How when you look at the projections and this is as i said. I went to a liberal arts college. Where i read books and papers. His base salary. This year will be nine million. The dead money hit if they got rid of it would be ninety five million. Wow sorry next. Season will be twenty million his salary and twenty twenty three. We'll be thirty. One million his salary in twenty twenty.

Aaron donald adam schefter Daniel ponce chris jones nine million Ian rapoport Chris godwin daniel de leon leonard williams twenty million One million trevor lawrence thirty five sacks Last year three sacks one year robinson ninety five million cam robinson
