"AP sports I'm Josh rowntree. We start on the NBA where Memphis took a game over Dallas with multiple stars sidelined. Correspondent Robert Stevens has more. Desmond baines scored 23 points as the Memphis Grizzlies completed a two game sweep of the Dallas Mavericks, one O four 88. Naz played without Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving both injured while the grizzlies were again without John morant. All right, how else would you blow a 30 point lead? Players not executing players not catching balls players not missing assignments. Players not cover and receive life. So I'll give you an example. I give you an example. So you mean to tell yourself that that's the case. Then, how often are how many mistakes is a player allowed to make them? Pull somebody and put it back up and everybody here's a pro. Let me give you except for Jeff Saturday. Let me give you an example. "And then awful. All in the same game and they've done it every single game this year. They look like a great team than they look like crap. What the heck do you make of the Minnesota Vikings? Yeah, really hard to evaluate kind of like what you're saying, Rex, they went out, they try to really revamp their defense, sign Patrick Peterson. Really try to off season make a lot of changes to sort of balance that team out and I think when you look at them defensively, they're just been really inconsistent. Including Patrick Peterson, by the way, Harrison Smith to be is still like their best defensive player, Anthony bar when he's healthy, but they lost ever seen Griffin danelle hunter's been out for the year. So they've struggled rushing the pastor. Now, Kirk Cousins to his credit, he was able to stay in toe to toe with Green Bay a couple weeks ago and beat Aaron Rodgers, but I agree just because they're so inconsistent on that side of the ball. Let's Dalvin cook's a 100%. I just don't see Minnesota going very far this year. I got you, I agree. Well, Mike, I can't thank you enough for joining us today. "You had Patrick Peterson, who was on IR already, and then bershad breland, your other starting quarter goes down in the game and it looked semi severe. I didn't really I should have looked this morning to see how severe it was. But he needed help off the field. Suddenly you're down with three of your best corners. We knew daniil hunter out for the season after the, I believe it was a pack injury in the Dallas game. So now I was unlike you started to think about this or down your top two corners, you're down. You're safety, you're now down to Neil again and suddenly we're having this issue where the Vikings defense is decimated by injury once again for the second year in a row. I thought they played very well. They played tough, Anthony Barr made a massive plan. Man, was that athletic? Where now, unbelievable? Because it's a linebacker, so switch down the defensive end, batted it up as he's getting chopped. He's catching it on the way down. You're getting it in decent field position. I think the 35 or 40 yard line you're saying to yourself, all our offense needs to do is maybe had an explosive pick up 30 yards and maybe we can win this in overtime. But three and out immediately. So it's just a very bizarre offense that's not operating at peak Clint kubiak been gifted this job on his father's name and he's not very good. And so that's partly what we're having here. It'll be interesting to see if this goes completely sideways because I don't think Zimmer's completely out of the woodwork if this were to just spiral downward. He could be very much on the hot seat. And it's wild because a year and a half ago, at least within the gambling community, Zimmer was one of the most respected, and he was covering spreads left right and center. Just hasn't been the case. Although he did get to cash yesterday. That daddy did despite a game day move that actually took it off to 7 and a half at some of the sharper shops out there. And when you look at Zimmer's ATS record, I think it moves to 33 16 and one coming into a game off a straight up loss. We'll see if that manifests itself this weekend. And I know our listeners are sick of us belaboring the point, but they're not may not be a wind total that I've ever bet pain that's gonna be more frustrating win or lose than the Minnesota Vikings knowing how close they've been to winning a lot of these games where it feels all the coin flips have kind of gone against them. So we'll see how things finish out for them. Over the second half of the season. Before we move into lookout lines, wanted to make sure there wasn't anything that we happened to gloss over that you wanted to share as far as observations over the weekend. I decided to subject myself to Texans dolphins. And so that's one that we can address because it was kind of interesting throughout the course of the week the way betters and fantasy guys talked about Tyrod Taylor, you would have thought he was the second coming. Texans were steamed all week from 7 and a half down to soft four. I don't know if there was a three and a half in the market or not but soft for is kind of what I saw. Miami turned it over 5 times. And then Texans still couldn't cover it peak price. That's how bad Tyrod Taylor was. And it wasn't some like tall task. It's a dolphin's defense 26th inefficiency. 26th against the pass. Tyrod was terrible, 6th worst completion percentage compared to expectation. One pass completed beyond ten yards. He wasn't good under pressure. He wasn't good when kept clean. He stunk with play action. 39% success rate for the Texans. Three explosives all game. And so I think this is worth talking about when you have a three and a half point move through the 6 and 7 onto the four, I think we have to throw tire rod in the bad or ugly category. I was surprised that he didn't run the football a little bit more. I know he was returning from a hamstring, but I felt a team so desperate to try and extend plays. And struggling to identify weapons that Tyrod Taylor's legs would have been more of a focal point, knowing that the dolphins defense who plays a lot of man coverage had given up chunky yardage in the past the Josh Allen. So that was one part of the game I was surprised. Didn't play a bigger role for Houston. Maybe the hammy is not quite a 100% yet. Which would explain why you're kicking a field goal down 17 to 6 from the two yard line. Nope, that's just their head. David culley, everyone's friend of analytics, my friend. That's it. Exactly. I just don't get it. You know, I think we talked about this a couple weeks back or like this organization so inept right now in the head coach is. Beyond help. The rebuild there, let's figure out what we have in Davis mills. I understand it hasn't looked good, but there's no talent around him. Why don't we get this guy some reps? Why don't we attempt to have better draft picks? 32 year old Tyrod Taylor, I'm sure he's obviously an upgrade as we know in the market indicated. But what are we getting out of that? Especially if this is the performance. I understand this was his basement level performance, and it's only going to get better from here. It was first came back and since week two, so there's going to be a little rust. But if we're going to lose games anyways, why not get Davis mills more reps? Why not get a better draft position? It's like a phone there. there would be like Like each all the moms call each other and like like when your phone would ring at like ten o'clock at night you'd know tomorrow hustle. Also now you've got a chance for white christmas too which is like the best thing in the world would get snow. Asmus long been fortunate enough to be able to go to to have white christmas. How's the in arizona but the flag stab in bill to ask on job since my kids were born so that opportunity to experience winter but i told miss a difference versus going into visit it whereas versus living in it so big time definitely car get stuck in the driveway. I this winter man winters. Great i like the changing of the seasons. You're getting it fall foliage here in the next couple of months so that it just kind of gets you excited. Especially as hockey guys that was a symbol to me of like seasons. Common hockey's common. It's it's time so even especially up their minnesota habit pre early. If time permissiveness last year absolutely going to cove it didn't really have opportunity to do a couple of those. I have a home on tuesdays. Every tuesday still going on arizona's feed the homeless every tuesday Because like i said you know. I just wanna just showed the community. Now that i'm definitely willing to give out the helping hand second one you said shop shop with a jock. You've shop shopped the job. What's that Just get a group of kids. I think the most we have about two hundred just take walmart or target or wherever you know. The station is able to get a sponsorship. They will have a little shopping spree Thank ladder she gave the kids. "In my mind dramatically changed. I think dave's odds just seeing that it wasn't a one off when he showed up at the at this at the morgan challenge a few years ago that like he could just come up. Hit a golf offers a year and hit it. Pretty decently and make apar- on a lottery. I think gonna be closer than i thought. And that's encouraging. I want dave to represent words and defeat brooks kepco right and i would also argue that that live streamed hole and i don't know i don't know how day feels going into the match. I have no idea. But i would imagine. He feels far more confident after the par on that hole. Where he's like oh. I can't actually do this big time. Because before that he hadn't played he has no idea whereas games that doesn't know he's gonna hit the ball if he's gonna be able to keep it on the map and then to par that one hole for for him to get more. Confidence makes me far more confident in him because if he's confident he can do anything he can. He can par. Bogey and i think that to a certain extent to a certain degree will be able to be brooks at least give him a match. Because i think we all want this match to at least have some drama to the point where it just keeps going. It goes all the way to the end. And i think after watching him hit a few shots. I've got a far better chance than i think. Anyone realized much better chance than anyone realized really excited for that but anyway so wednesday. I'm out in montauk with them doing that. I came and move barely drive at this point. Drop you bug off at borelli's that's where we met was funny. He sent me a video. My dad he met me at barelli's and my dad is just in the back like putting together a fucking weed whacker or something like laying on the concrete one hundred degree weather and then he bugs videos. Seattle - Washington State Hit Hard By Unemployment Fraud
"The State of Washington admitted yesterday that has lost hundreds of millions of dollars to bogus. Unemployment claims this is the latest and biggest example of an increasing number of pandemic related fraud cases. Npr's Martin Kostya reports. The crisis has created ideal conditions for scammers. By last weekend. It was already pretty clear that something bad was happening to Washington. State's unemployment system Jevon West is an associate professor at the University of Washington Seattle. I get this email from my gain that said Oh my identity has been stolen. Yours might be to you better. Check turns out. Somebody was impersonating university faculty members using their names and social security numbers to apply unemployment benefits and West found that his idea was being misused. This way too. I have colleagues across the university in the medical school in the law school and every single group that I've talked to there was at least some and in some cases many had their identity stolen there have been similar reports from all across Washington and the state now acknowledges that there have been tens of thousands of bogus unemployment claims and just a few weeks. Experts think the gangs are filling out those claim forms by drawing on the ocean of personal information about us. That's been stolen in recent years. For instance from facts in two thousand seventeen eve of Alaska's a CEO of the Identity Theft Resource Center a nonprofit that helps victims it. Also tracks data breaches. But she says right now. That kind of hacking isn't the priority for these criminals Ria the number of breaches occurring actually fall this quarter. But that's because they're they're no longer seeking out the data now they're trying to monetize it and they're not going after just government money. There's also been a jump. In pandemic themed scams that target individuals for instance fake warnings that you've been exposed to the corona virus to be able to use a nugget of truth and then spend their yard and now because things are so disorienting it does tend to put us in a position where we think well is that true. I mean it could be because I never thought this could happen and I'm living it and that has some disturbing implications if scammers pretend to be say contact tracers then. How will people respond to a call from real contact tracers? Jevon West. The academic whose identity was stolen at the start of this story the University of Washington Center for an informed public. He happens to study misinformation and disinformation. He calls this pandemic long-term state of uncertainty. And when there's so much uncertainty you get these knowledge vacuums. That sort of attract opportunists. Send propaganda that are either trying to push narrative that are trying to sow confusion the trying to just make a buck and there are lots of people trying to make a buck right now around it. Now that his own identities been used for fraud. West says he's resolved to do more at his center to alert the public to Cova scams and the damage they do to our ability to figure out what's real in an unreal time.
