"Slash glowing rectangles is my direct response to some of the issues that I've been sharing in having to deal with YouTube and algorithms. We still need your support. We still need your up dotes. We still need comments. And we've gotten an incredible influx of people sharing content. It really has been encouraging to see. But that extra participation on a social networking site like Reddit really helps take content to another level. I did very well this week and the direct reflection of doing a little bit better on the subreddit played out into stats and metrics that I could see on my YouTube channel. Especially for how garbage my numbers on YouTube have been recently, these types of platforms and when I do well on social other social networks, it does have an effect on how my content is viewed by YouTube. So I'm going to go through the top stories because the second highest upvoted is something that's near and dear to my heart. I don't want this subreddit to become one tweeted at once. And so all of one's videos got massively upvoted. I really want this to be a true grassroots place to find content that you will never get served through the YouTube algorithm. And that only happens if we're really in here supporting creators and upvoting their work and finding these channels. Every time you subscribe to a smaller creator on YouTube, a smaller tech channel, YouTube is immediately going to try and serve you the biggest channels with the most profitable audiences. They're not going to find you other smaller channels. There's nothing there's no additional data I can give YouTube to say. I am not interested in these top channels. Stop trying to get me to subscribe to these top channels. I have asked you to stop serving them as recommendations. I still see them as recommendations. I have gone out of my way to find new channels, up and coming channels, channels where the viewership might actually be kind of ebbing off. People who deserve way more viewership. We don't have a Patrick Norton show on YouTube right now. Why don't we have a Patrick Norton show on YouTube right now? It's because it takes an army of effort to really boost those numbers enough where YouTube will do its job and send out a new Patrick Norton video to Patrick Norton subscribers. Right now, my videos are tanking bad. I mean, this is the worst of my YouTube metrics have ever been. My videos are not getting shared. My videos are not being served to people who have subscribed to my channel. It is an apocalypse right now. Increasingly, I am monstrously dwarfing my revenue on Patreon over YouTube, which is increasingly encouraging me not to put stuff up on YouTube. Why work that hard if YouTube's gonna bury it? So if you're an up and coming creator, it's even worse. If you're a new channel just getting started, you get this little spike of engagement, YouTube loves it, they're gonna try and serve it up, the algorithm is gonna try and sort it in place it, and then once it finds its flow, YouTube is gonna cap it. It's not a true meritocracy of reaching the people that subscribe to your channel and continuing to send them the content. It's completely artificial and manipulated just like your feed on Facebook. We can't fix it on YouTube unless we engage across other Internet destinations. My subreddit is an attempt at doing just that. Please don't let my subreddit be a only one wins the view count subreddit. Again, I don't know if many other bigger producers and content creators and YouTubers who are making podcasts saying, please lift up other people. I mean, this isn't just like, oh, there's a little shout out for a smaller YouTube creator. Aren't I so philanthropic? Everyone pat me on the back. Oh, I'm special. Reddit dot com slash R slash glowing rectangles. My Samsung editorial took the top spot. I'm actually not too surprised about that. But number two, S 22 plus, no 24 hours with the better I 9 pro engineer reacts one mister Barry Johnson. Kicking it in coming in clutch. Number two spot looking at a phone that is very near and dear to my heart. Calling the aiku 9 pro and S 22 killer. And you know I'm going to agree. So then my poco videos got some traction. There's a great pup on tech article talking about bottlenecks and performance. He's got to look at, I believe this one was on storage. Someone please correct me if I got that one wrong. But he's looking at performance and storage bottlenecks on mobile devices, my reviews dot org video, my tick watch video. And then we get down to Jason T Lewis, painfully honest tech, just so surprised in his thumbnail. He's holding a Galaxy S 22 ultra. Who could have thought? But I like Jason's vibe. And then we got CW's 3.86 .3 thousand subscribers. So about 6400 subscribers, he's pitting the pixel 6 pro against his canon R 6 because they both have 6 in the title, and I like that speed. I like that vibe. It's a little camera to camera showdown. I'm going to be following that up C dubs with a camera to camera showdown. My vivo against my Panasonic G 9. So be on the lookout for that. I'm stepping into that conversation too because again, I really feel people can do more with their phone cameras than YouTubers like to pretend that you can do. Reddit dot com slash R slash.

"Cd's <Speech_Female> ancient <Speech_Male> history. I know says <Speech_Female> tony but you might <Speech_Female> happen. I <Speech_Female> often suggest that the customer <Speech_Female> a textile <Speech_Female> of some sort <Speech_Female> to store these license <Speech_Female> keys and <Speech_Female> passwords <Speech_Female> should also documented <Speech_Female> somewhere but <Speech_Female> obviously not in a plain <Speech_Female> text file anywhere <Speech_Female> while these apps can <Speech_Female> be replaced. It would <Speech_Female> be costly to repurchase <Speech_Female> them and <Speech_Female> number three <Speech_Female> everything backups. <Speech_Female> This would be using <Speech_Female> software <Speech_Male> like <SpeakerChange> a chronic <Speech_Male> spur example. <Speech_Male> Yeah this <Speech_Male> is great Thank you <Speech_Male> tony for <Speech_Male> not only a <Speech_Male> backing me up <Speech_Male> so to <Speech_Male> speak <Speech_Male> but also <Speech_Male> extending that conversation <Speech_Male> in fact i've <Speech_Male> i've talked to tony. <Speech_Male> We're going to record a <Speech_Male> know a little more <Speech_Male> about how to <Speech_Male> figure out what should <Speech_Male> go in your backups <Speech_Male> which <Speech_Male> which files chicago. <Speech_Male> So look for that coming <Speech_Male> this this fall <Speech_Male> once. We've <Speech_Male> got that recorded. <SpeakerChange> Thanks <Silence> tony for. This is good stuff. <Speech_Female> Thanks <Speech_Female> tony Also <Speech_Female> thanks <Speech_Female> everybody. Who <Speech_Female> sends us great <Speech_Female> feedback. Just like <Speech_Female> tony did questions <Speech_Female> comments <Speech_Female> pictures of your cats. <Speech_Female> All <Speech_Female> of that stuff can be sent <Speech_Female> to feedback at daily <Speech_Female> tech news. Show dot com. <Speech_Female> Thank you in advance. <Speech_Female> Also shout out <Speech_Female> to patrons at our master <Speech_Female> and grandmaster <Speech_Female> levels. Today they include. <Speech_Female> Tony glass <Speech_Female> philip less and <Speech_Female> daniel. Dorato <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Female> guess what <Speech_Female> we have to <Speech_Male> office to. <Speech_Female> Thanks yes <Speech_Female> we do gavin. <Speech_Female> See and <Speech_Female> skip birkir. <Speech_Female> Both just started <Speech_Female> backing us on patron. <Speech_Female> Thank you gavin <Speech_Female> and thank <Speech_Music_Female> you <Speech_Music_Male> <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> so <Speech_Music_Male> when we get <Speech_Male> to the end of the month we <Speech_Male> always want to have at least <Speech_Male> one more patron <Speech_Male> than we had the <Speech_Male> month before. And so <Speech_Male> when we get new patrons <Speech_Male> like this it helps <Speech_Male> us get to <Speech_Male> that point. We've only <Speech_Male> got a couple of days left. <Speech_Male> Were down six <Speech_Male> on the month. So <Speech_Male> if one of you happens <Speech_Male> to be six people <Speech_Male> you can easily <Speech_Male> fix that <Speech_Male> by coming <Speech_Male> patriot or six <Speech_Male> of you could become a <Speech_Male> new patron what- <Speech_Male> whatever's <SpeakerChange> easiest <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> if you're <Speech_Female> a six person and one <Speech_Female> listen the <Speech_Male> choices pretty <Speech_Female> clearly. <Speech_Female> Yeah but <Speech_Female> but yes. Thank <Speech_Female> you patrons <Speech_Female> We really appreciate <Speech_Female> it. Can't wait to see <Speech_Female> who we can thank <Speech_Female> tomorrow. Also thanks <Speech_Female> to patrick norton <Speech_Female> for being with us today. <Speech_Female> Patrick norton <Speech_Female> such a pleasure as <Speech_Female> always let <SpeakerChange> folks know where <Speech_Male> they can.

"Cleo Report The tech guy Oh, I feel terrible. Before people been hanging on. I gave you the phone number 45 minutes ago. Finally, I'm getting the phones. My apologies. Tony in Washington, D C. Thank you for being so very patient. Oh, certainly a report. Thank you for answering my call, Sir. Tony. My pleasure. What can I do for you? I am. Well, first. I want to tell you that I am I your hugest fan. I know you have many, but I am one of also, Thank you. You know Patrick Norton Camero, Uh, going back to the good old days. A tech TV to 98 99 98. Yes, Yes. You know, if you watch I wish I could find those old shows. I guess Some of them are on YouTube. I imagine they look pretty darn dated at this point. Yeah, the only YouTube even with your psychic Erica Hill doing a new spot school Now she's a big shot. Anyway, I won't make it to quit cock, and they've got many, many college so I took your advice You had turned around and said that there when the M ship comes out You know the price going to kind of go up if you need to get a computer right away. Go ahead and get something real quick, So I did. I got it. I Mac 27 inch. Nice ship. No, it's the intel version. Yeah, yeah. Dance till version. Now it keeps giving me not occasion to do the big, Sir, I don't want to do that yet, because I'm still learning. I'm still following you on on other shows to learn everything I can. What I did find was just awesome. Um, um, feature on the clock when it makes you announce and every quarterly Yeah, I'll say hello. It's quarter of Dong Oh, yeah, Yeah. Yeah, That's fun. Isn't it So annoying. I turn it on. And then I turn it off. Soon thereafter, I use it at home when I'm walking around to keep me tractor fixed. Yeah, yeah. My question is that I have a laptop of Del and I used that the traveling around that go to the office and go out and about I was trying to find out. It is a after oil late to do the same thing for their for the Dell computer or Microsoft software. We do anywhere. I tried to Google it, but I think it always wait links and I didn't trust him. What do you want to do? Turn off the notification? No, I'll get it to talk to you. Yeah, I get to talk to me the time. So when I'm at work, I'm out and about while it's on illegitimate. Tell me is to 45 3. O'clock is right, 25, Right? So I Googled the lynx. I didn't trust him. But I do trust you so you can go to a site called Make use of That's a reliable site. And they have an article from a couple of years ago, but it's still applicable. It's it's the reason I'm saying go to the site is because it's a script that you're gonna load and then said in the task scheduled to go off Every hour. Every 15 minutes ever, however much you want. It's a long script, and so I don't I can't not going to read it to you. But it uses the text speech capabilities of Windows, which are built in To automatically in a mechanical voice announced. The time And if you if you feel comfortable with it, this script is written in them. Visual basic. It, but it's pretty. It's pretty much like English. If you feel comfortable with it, you could. You could actually modify it and make it every 15 minutes or whatever you want. But so the trick is you're gonna write a little script that's gonna use language called visual basic. If you felt comfortable, you could also do it in power. Shell or other scripting language is on windows, and then you would use the task schedule or Automatically run that script at the top of every hour. And it would then say whatever you want, By the way, it doesn't have to just say the time you could say, you know. Hey, Tony, it's 11. O'clock. What do you doing? You could make it. Say anything You want. That is so cool. So make you self is a great sight for this kind of thing. They're reliable. They're trustworthy. They're not going to steer you wrong, And this script is really simple. But a clever idea. You know, they're probably our third party programs. I'll take a look. And maybe the chat room or somebody listening will know they're probably we don't want one of the reasons people use windows because there's eight million programs. Available for and I'm sure somebody's written a talking clock. So that would be the other thing to do is look in the windows app store for talking clock or something like that. And you probably could find something similar. If you get an Apple watch. It'll do it too, you know. Really? Yeah. So then then you can wear it on your risk wrist. So what do you win? That when the when the computer says, Hey, Tony, it's a 8 A.m.. What do you do? You jump up Yeah, it tells me I'm running late. Oh, you're like Tony. Oh, that's good. Well, once you okay, So here's this is the beauty part. Once you kind of get the idea this script in this test schedule, you could make it do anything you want. So in theory, you could write a script that would look at your calendar. And say, Hey, you're next appointment's in 10 minutes. You better get on the time. I need this. Actually, This is a good idea. That is so cool. Just one of the reasons I always encourage people to learn a little bit of programming. If you can program a computer You can have it do things that no one else wanted it to do enough to program it to do it and you know and make it be your very, very own. Tony, It's a pleasure to talk to you. Thank you, Leo and have a good weekend. You to stay warm. I know it's chilly. Chili all over the country were in winter our way. Showed they brought to you by I drive. E thought great article 2020 was the year of disaster recovery. Here's a quote in 2020 remote, working substantial.

"Atmos dakota so you can enjoy that three style sound system without taking up the whole room or creating a situation where you have to run wires in the walls or whatever you can at least get a a good experience bill. Right into a soundbar nowadays. It's not. i mean. Granted it's always gonna be better to have four speakers or more mounted in the ceiling in addition to a full surround sound system but that can be awfully complicated. If you're not up for it and having something like what's built into a sound bar nowadays from people like either sonos with their arc system or the new. Oh video has a brand new soundbar that actually has motorized side channels so when it goes into its three d mode for sound. It'll actually turn the speakers to make them up firing so bouncing off the ceiling and give you a little more little more three d. effect. But it's kind of what. Patrick norton was telling us about on friday. Was like you know the the the surround sound system that he's got in his house now he's like you can just hear all these sounds that you just can't hear before and sound designers work really hard. He's the mandalorian as an example. It's amazing what you don't realize you're not getting until you have a really good system. I would think that the tv would be kind of the same way. Of course i'm looking at my tv. On mike i don't know i can see everything that's fine but the first time i got a retina screen. I'm a mac pro. I was like oh my gosh. I can actually see everything you know the on k monitor. I'm looking at now. It didn't used to have one of those either. So i think it's once you upgrade. You go okay now and depending on how old your tv is if it say five. Plus years old at this point the new back lighting technologies words able to not only maintain that that wicked clear crystal Just very dark detail in addition to providing very high bright lights on portions of the screen. Instagram's new feature allows users to share stories with smaller group

"Instagram announced a new stories feature for Android NIS, called close friends to share stories with just a select group of people rather than all of your followers. So close friends is a private list. So another user who's not on that list. Can't find it or see who's on it and get all weird about it. Now, if you're on someone's close friends list, you will know you'll see green badge when you view certain stories, and you'll say, okay, this is a private list rather than the story that everybody has seen. There's also a green ring around the user's profile in the

Apple and Amazon set to integrate as of December 17

"Let's talk a little more about the peace in our time between Amazon and apple here. Yes. So good news. If you if you use both of the services regularly Amazon announced that it's echo speaker is will start supporting apple music on December seventeenth through an apple music skill users can enable and link to their apple music account that way Amazon says that users will be able to play songs or by artists or by album and apples curated playlists radio stations. The apple music integration is for echo speakers, though. So if you're like me, and you have a third party smart speaker that taps into Amazon's assistant, for example, a Sonos one it's not happening on December seventeenth that much. We know it's just for echoes. Yeah. Not all of Amazon voice services. It's a skill in the in. Database, but I guess it only works on echoes. So that it must be a deal with apple the other thing. I noted in Amazon's press release about this. And you mentioned it Apple's curated playlists and radio stations, not your playlists. I don't know if that's an oversight and the press release, or if it means that if you create a playlist, you can't access it through the voice. It's. Would be strange to me if you wouldn't have that functionality. I love I apple music user in. There are few curated playlists that the company does that I really love. So it, you know, it's nice to have that as well. But if you put together your own playlist, and you have access to all of your music and you can search by album or by artists. I'd be surprised if you wouldn't be able to access playlists as well. But who knows? I also curious if this is a skill there describing it as a skill does. That mean, it's not integrated the way Spotify is if I tell my echo right now to play something it will play it from my Spotify list, actually play for my liens because that's the way hooked up to my account. But if if Apple's a skill I might have to say tell apple music to play which had actually liked to have the opportunity to say make this one might default. If I don't say anything else, but me the option to say, actually, I want this from apple music play it over there, especially if you used several music services, a lot of people just have one, but you know, I have Pandora count as well on that something that an echo also supports you mentioned Spotify. So, yeah, if you're if you're wanting to be very specific about this is where I want this this music were or or whatever audio played from than it might actually be a benefit. I mean, what I actually want is Google music to be integrated here but hell freeze over before that
