Chiefs slog their way past beat-up Rams for 26-10 victory

"Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes opened with a touchdown pass to tight end Travis Kelce and the chiefs went on to beat the Los Angeles Rams 26 to ten. It was the only TD pass mahomes through on the day. We got to be better. I mean, obviously it's a great defense. We have a ton of respect for them. But we moved the ball kind of between the 20s and it seemed like we got down there and goal to go situations we weren't able to score. Mahomes finished with 27 completions on 42 attempts, rams quarterback where ice Perkins filled in for the injured Matt Stafford. He threw for a touchdown pass, but also had two interceptions. The defending Super Bowl champions are now three and 8. Greg eklund, Kansas City

Patrick Peterson, of the Minnesota Vikings. Patrick Peterson with potentially the toughest assignment in week number 13, forget about the niners taking on tua and vice versa. Forget about the Bengals taking on Patrick Mahomes and the chiefs and vice versa. Forget about the Tennessee Titans taking on the Philadelphia Eagles and vice versa. There's only one Mike white in the National Football League. He's a New York jet. It's a Patrick Peterson in the Minnesota Vikings coming off of their Thanksgiving night win over the New England Patriots. So quick fantasy thing real quick. I've been starting Derek Carr the last couple of weeks, but I finally dropped Russell Wilson today, picked up Mike white. Who should I start? Carr has been terrific. Car's been great. The last couple of weeks. Far against the Chargers or Mike white against the Vikings. Food for thought. Food for thought. My power rankings coming up shortly here on the program. But we had not spoken at all in the first two hours about what started at the top of our number three yesterday. At this very moment is when the U.S. men's national team took on Iran, needing a win and they got a win because nothing victory. One zero victory pardon me because Christian Pulisic put his men's nationals on the line. On the line, look. What this man did and putting his body in the line of danger. To try and light the lamp if there is such a lamp, his lamps got lit. They did. The only lamp had cutter is Aladdin's. I don't know. Hey, what he did. It was awesome. Put it in the neck and it does appear. The knee of the Iranian keeper met the politics, head on. And he goes down and he also face planted. Couldn't finish the second half and the U.S. men's national team almost didn't either. And the U.S. completes the necessary victory and they move on to the knockout stage as Christian Pulisic just went right down in a heap. Now, look, I've been covering sports for quite some time. Fortunate enough to be in this position quite some time, not just in the show, but various national television and radio outlets have been at it a while. I thought the worst spin job in the history of sports spin jobs. Was the phrase wardrobe malfunction. Okay. I thought. It was pretty bad. Wardrobe malfunction. You all know. I was a little bit more than a malfunction in that Super Bowl halftime show. But calling Christian Pulisic's injury, a pelvic contusion. I believe might be your new Clubhouse leader. Doing a lot of heavy lifting. Pelvic contusion. Who's the one who came up with that one? I tip my cap to that individual. He got hit in the nards. What are we going to call it? We can't just say, you know? I'm just going to put up a poll. I confuse you. What are we going to call? I got it. We'll call it a pelvic contusion. And everybody, whatever, and then the U.S. men's national team is like, that's it. Good job. Put it out there. And pulisic. He went to the hospital. Did you see that? Is a photograph of him in his hospital bed saying I'll be there on Saturday. I'm in. You went to the hospital for that. That's how much of a direct hit it took. Bear when it happened, we all like, we're watching the replay 'cause we couldn't figure out what exactly happened. I know, because you went down and he was holding his stomach. And then I think Jeff shreves called it an abdomen injury? Yeah. 'cause he was holding his stomach. No.

During your interaction with Patrick Mahomes, Henry, you said there's always a place that your dinner table for him. Will you have dinner with Patrick Oklahoma's in the off season? Are you going to follow up? He will have a chicken stuffed with ricotta and spinach. Nice. That will make his mouth happy. And he said to me, I'm going to keep you to your word on your dinner, and I said there is always a seated my table for you. I loved it. We all loved the encounter. That's why it's gone viral. When I was chatting with him, I was present enough to realize how present he was. How many times I've met somebody and they go, yeah, yeah, really good to meet you. You know, I got a big show to do. I got a game to play. And thanks so much and good luck to you. He was right there with me and he was so excited.

"Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw four touchdown passes in the chiefs 27 to 17 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars Mahomes opened the scoring with a past to kadarius Tony who helped his way under the end zone for his first NFL touchdown It was cool to see I mean everybody was excited for him Luckily he didn't run out of bounds He's getting close there on the sideline I actually heard him as the route was going on going hey because he was wide open So that helped me out a little bit The chiefs acquired Tony from the New York Giants before the NFL trade deadline The chiefs built a 20 to nothing lead and held on for the win to improve to 7 and two Greg eklund Kansas City

"Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen true three touchdown passes in the bill's 24 to 20 win over the Kansas City Chiefs In this game there would be no miraculous comeback led by a chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes You can make an argue he's got the best start to any quarterback to ever play this game in the history of the league He's a special player so anytime he's got the ball in the hands you never know what can happen But again credit to our defense for stepping up and making his place Alan completed the game winning touchdown pass with 6 to 9 seconds left in the game to tight end Dawson Knox In the remaining minute the bills forced mahomes to throw in interception and secure the game Greg eklund Kansas City

"Which college qualifies as professional sports is the conflict between business and winning and they don't always align those things are not always consistent and at least in this case they're at all. Because like I said, there's not much more he can gain. I don't think he can impact his draft status until he does combine and private workouts. That's the only way he can impact his draft status going forward. I mean, he's already won a Heisman. If he balls out in this game against Tennessee, they're not going to put them even higher. So yeah, that's it for Bryce. We'll see what happens in this game, but I mean, obviously we root for health for everyone and every game, but certainly for him in this one. I got one more thing for you on this. And this is both coaching and also talent. We see Bama just blow teams out because they just dominate the trenches. And Bama has probably the best overall player in college football and will Anderson on the defensive line. But the fascinating thing about this game is Tennessee's offensive line and how dominant they have been. They're not allowing pressure for hinden hooker, but also they're so dominant and goal to go situations is a static effort by 38. That Tennessee has reached goal to go on 17 drives this season. They've scored a touchdown on every single one of them. Every single one of them. So if there are actually able to compete with Alabama and the trenches, this will be a close game. This will be a good competing with Alabama and trenches. I mean, will Anderson's obviously obviously a very special linebacker. But I think your point about the trenches always feel like a differentiates the great college teams from the good college teams. It's a lot easier to find a 6 foot super athlete, like they're a lot of them relative to 6.5, 300 pounds, super athletes. And Alabama and Georgia seem like they have that market corner, but I can't wait to this game to watch this game so we can talk about it when we get back. Me, you got any interest in going to a returning practice. I feel like there's nothing to talk about there. He's coming back is, we'll see. Do you want to see him play again this year? I guess that's the one question I have is, I mean, I want him to do what he wants to do. But I kind of don't want to watch him play again. I'm going to be incredibly uncomfortable and nervous. I guess I'll get over it, but that's where I'm at. I mean, it just feels like, no, no, I'm with you. It just feels like lather rinse repeat on all of this. We've done so much moral hand wringing about concussions in the NFL and how we are as fans and how much you have learned since you played and it feels like, yeah, I'm going to feel really uncomfortable for it. And I think with it, but I think I'll probably get over it unless something else happens to do it.

"But on the other side of that, the chief's part of it, we'll see. We'll see if they're going to work themselves up for this game because this is the year that the chiefs pivoted from being all in every single year to taking the really wide lens view of it. We're going to get rid of Tyree kill. We're going to start to rebuild around Patrick Mahomes and build this dynasty for more than a decade. So I don't even know if they're looking at which is crazy to say because they're playing the bills, the ultimate measuring stick, if they're looking at this game as ultra important or just another step in being a really good regular season team that prepares them to peak at the right time in the postseason. Because Patrick, he's past this. He's past the Josh Allen MVP year. He's starting to be judged just in championships for success. And same with this whole chief's dynasty. What was the year in the bowl 6 championships? Was the year when they set the record? It wasn't the, I know, but I mean, was that the third one? It was the year after they lost to her. There's the fourth chase. Yeah, so, okay, yeah, yeah, so it's Jordan's first year back. Well, I mean, he came back, yeah, he came back midway through his first year back. And yeah, and there's something to be said for that. That's the reason why I was like, all right, we got a point to prove. And the same thing could be said for the warriors crazy 73 win season. What happened a year before that in the warriors? Did they lose the championship? No. They lost the day. They're weirdos. They wanted 15. Right, and then they lost a year. They went 73. Yeah. And the Cavs had a bunch of injuries and they're one year that they want. Anyway, I'm getting away from it. And draymond, hunch LeBron and the nuts, and that happens. Oh, draymond. We're not going to talk about gerrymandering today. We'll save some time for me. All right. That's enough time on that game. Let's go to the NFC. The surprise is the cowboys, the eagles we expect them to be here. The big conversation is like, who is this more important to, I think? And I actually find that kind of intriguing. It's one of those kind of stupid sports talk questions that we just throw out there that don't mean anything, but it kind of means something to me because I think it's obviously, even though the cowboys are trailing in a division, it seems obvious that the eagles still have to prove something to themselves. They destroyed the Vikings other than that, they don't really have an impressive win.

"Yeah, I can't go. I think I'd be more than a judge. I still would be more surprised by the bills winning by more than a touchdown. Just because I can't say I'm surprised by Patrick Mahomes win. That just feels like sacrilege. Well, it's just that we're coming off of probably the worst chief performance of the year in that first half of the Raiders game. And obviously, they got together they won that game. Even worse than I was gonna say that you made a mistake because they lost to the colts, but no, I actually think that this was a worse performance than you lost to the cold floss was a complete fluke. It was sort of like, it was sort of a special teams. It was like the bills dolphins game where the stats didn't actually reflect the result. Which is interesting. But we're also coming off of a bills game. Of course, they're playing this dealer at the bottom of the barrel team. But they just look like a complete, complete juggernaut. I just think we're going to have, this is the storyline game of the week, even more than cowboys eagles. I think we're going to come out of Monday with a clear one way or the other who we think is the Super Bowl favorite. Because on the other on the flip side of it, the bill is knock off the chiefs in mahomes raises his level to the way he did in the playoffs last year against the bills. We're going to be like, why did we ever doubt this? Patrick Mahomes has been QB one the whole thing. One thing that happens to the chiefs and probably happens to a lot of perennial competitive teams, like perennial Super Bowl competitors, is something happens different in the week of big games. If it's game planning, gets a little bit more focused, Andy and Vienna may are more willing to call their really special plays. We see a different version of the chiefs and big important games than we see in the games that they can sleepwalk through. You know, like the colts game, we saw some unimaginative play calling. We saw Kelsey dropping important passes. We saw mistakes in special teams. And the things that we don't really see from them like Kelsey had four touchdowns, and a prime time game. And we saw some of the more creative things that we have come to expect from them.

"Don't know if I could, or if someone asked me to bet something an amount of money that I care about, I feel like I can't just can't go against Patrick Mahomes and it's a logical, it's emotional, but we've seen him do it so many times. So many impressive things. And I guess our last memory of him is like turning into a terrible quote. Our last playoff memory of him is turning into a terrible quarterback for the second half of that championship game against the Bengals, but I also am a little down on them and we talked about this in the last part because they don't have a true number one and I think the difference between them and the bills is the bills have potentially two true number ones. I guess I don't know exactly how good Gabe Davis is because he's come up in a world where Stefon Diggs is the actual number one, but he's really good also. He's making really incredible big plays and tough situations. So the bills are the better team and I just I've got to pick them to win this week, but when they meet in the playoffs, which feels inevitable, I don't know if I can do that. What do you think? Okay, so this one's fascinating to me because well obviously it's fascinating because it's the matchup of the two best teams in the NFL. But beyond that, I think it's really interesting how our public perception has totally shifted on these teams and I say that because the bills are two and a half point road favorites in this game. And they open this two point favorite. So people are betting the bills up on the road in Kansas city. That's pretty indicative that we now trust Josh Allen, the regulations and quarterback as much or more than we trust Patrick Mahomes. And I don't really think that's wrong. The bills are operating as like a at this point. Statistically, it's like one of the top 5 offense as we've ever seen. But I don't really think that's what separates them from the chiefs right now. Yeah, they're awesome, but the chiefs are also number one and EPA. Offensively. And basically, I think the defense is the separating factor in this game. You think it's the receivers. I think it's the bills have one of the best defenses in the NFL. Yeah, that's fair. And even down one of their superstar safeties, their defense is still really good. They talk about this before how they take the pressure off of their corners because that's where their inexperienced at least until they get TRE davious white back who's a really great corner. Then this team gets even better. And they have a closer and we talk about like, I think the ravens are the best example of a team that was built and a complimentary fashion, like not this year necessarily but when the ravens were at their peak,

"Radio iHeartRadio. And nearly 400 cities around America. Whenever we talk about the success of the Kansas City Chiefs, we normally start with Patrick Mahomes. But he's not the only longtime chief who deserves credit for the success because Andy Reid is been an elite coach for a long time. He had a lot of success in Philadelphia, 5 NFC title game appearances, and then success with the Kansas City Chiefs. They lose tyreek hill in the off season, no big deal. And you did have analysts who said they're going to be more dangerous. I thought they were going to be different. I didn't know how they could be more dangerous when you don't have the fastest player in the NFL. But you do have Patrick Mahomes, but Andy Reid and that partnership, Eric biene, they're offensive coordinator, feels like there's no arguing on the sidelines this week after what happened last week. They got everything back to normal and picked up the win. Here is Tom Brady talking about Patrick Mahomes. Very fortunate to maximize mine. I've had a lot of mentors in my life that played a very important role in helping me be the best I could be too. So at least I could do is give it back to all the other people that are looking for success in their field. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers rushed for three yards last night. The Kansas City almost ran for 200 yards last night. So that balance was the big difference here. And Tampa's defense, which when it shows up is awesome, did not show up last night. And here's Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes talking about going into the matchup with Tom Brady. I see him in the off season a lot. Now, I just said good luck on the rest of the year. I feel like I said this earlier in the week, I think you can some interview where I was like, I feel like I've had the last game against Tom Brady like four times now. So until he is not on that field when I step on the field, I'm not going to believe this is my last game against him. All right, mahomes look great. And mahomes will occasionally remind us. And it's strange that he has to remind us of just how great he is.

"Tries to pass that he probably shouldn't. Mahomes steps up, doesn't throw initially fine time throws tried to force it in. Off the bounce Tennessee has got it. And we've seen those time and time again. This season for Patrick Mahomes. The next possession Patrick Mahomes scrambles and then he fumbles the football while trying to get additional yards. And mahomes will keep going. Loses the football Tennessee has got it. Nothing is working for the chiefs. And so there is a real snowball effect. And teams now know the best way to beat the chiefs is to try to take the ball from them and then continue to kind of keep them in that place, not let the chiefs sort of rally in game confidence. I mean, you mentioned daring and him being fearless and creative and obviously that goes back to what he was before, and those stories that you wrote about. So is it possible that opposing defenses are just more prepared for those things now? And those aren't really working for him as much as they used to? It's a great question Tiffany and I think this has been something that's been in the making since 2018, right? I think opposing defensive coordinators and players on defense were utterly amazed by what mahomes could do in 2018. And there was really no defense designed to stop this. But I think defense is so starting to realize that they should not blitz my homes. He's the least blis quarterback in the league. So if you have 7 defenders out in coverage, well, hey, if a ball is tipped, there's another defender nearby for an interception. And so what defenses are trying to do is to prevent a deep pass from mahomes. That is what he is so effective at. It's what makes the chiefs offense so potent. A deep pass from Patrick Mahomes to tyreek hill the fastest receiver in the league, well, now safety user playing 20 to 15 yards off the ball. It's made mahomes have to think a little bit more, which means, well now I gotta force the issue. Now I have to initiate something that create a.

Yeah well i i the games we play. You know to really complex running teams. Not very good at what they do. They did a lot of complicated games. But you know give to the drug war. Go to practice. You know tearing up. Like i said before you know reverend off now i'll turn off blocks. Just get going. And they'll give it to the basis of football. Get better we do said some of the problems. Defensively a mindset better in the second half to feature group that kind of that sense really passed the whole. He lives to play great. You know we got up to their challenge We to take it upon ourselves each and every day we start out fast. We start on physical. Zhao keep more not mesa or does it feel like it should feel Now we're not. We're going to be no still fairly new all of us playing together. We got a way to go. No we got what fifteen more games plus playoffs. I'm pretty sure we'll be there. You know we We can get better as we go. You know we're not gonna now. We won't keep you better each and every keyword and stop running japan's gives him sex removed life. The defense like that. Obviously from your safety making tackles and stuff like that the live university bags and they're getting paid. Fascia walk oh you know. We're not talking about it. You know we we gotta be better That's what we're gonna. Do you know getting back to do that. And we'll come. We're gonna try your blocks easy game. You better face do you. What does I think he's one of the in the league. You know he's a real special talent you know he was obviously the mvp to leave for a reason He's way. Does you know that's behind us. Now know we're moving forward. Why does present such a challenge to defend you know. He's a total of three now back. You know he can run the ball. Well he cares about a bad field. They can get involved screens. I'm pretty sure they're gonna try to get the ball to them. You know based on what we put on from the past two games but you know. We are focused on the whole team. As well you know just get to the game playing going to give up some points earlier in the season around. What is the key to getting this kind of thing. Turn around in the middle of the season we know. Just keep going and you know you got get better each and every day and it's going to start with practice you know you practice to prepare for the games. Now we prepare be physical. Gotta stop and run. We tell blocks. We gotta make tackles. He knows we'll take all of us as defense. I m you didn't have frank clark or to the second game. Did you see a big difference with the those two games. You definitely one of those guys on the field on. They're great guys play especially having timer bad there in the back again. No i haven't franken down the age. Those definitely guinness us advantage so now we put it all together and have a complete defense. I know it's more prevalent like communication. We definitely have to communicate better. That's one thing we definitely talked about. And we're going to pick up on. You know still fairly new at each other still feeling up but you know it's ej. I'm going to get better as where everything goes to gain crushing when you look at the. We're pissed off you know. It's not to standards. And now we have very high standards and trust me. We definitely gonna get on that. Get down and just keep going man. We keep my heads. We all get down on. You know we know who we are. We're gonna stand on the intensity like you guys play last year sometimes fan. Sometimes we're fans now you're on this team. That two straight super bowls obviously meant a lot to baltimore because they had beaten that she threw well. But you guys got to be ready for that every single time you go on the road with full houses and big target on the on the chief pack. Yeah you know we got spare. We're going to get east teamed. Very best Just because what he's done in the past year someone teams coming here. Is there super bowl. So you know we just gotta stay grounded and we gotta take each game is that you know we gotta take each game as we will get the team's best we step into a challenge and we play that much better as you sort of seen on that you can improve on it and just you guys sort of changed. Just gotta get gotta make the plays the plays an original man preferably why stop Now is being is being put out there on film. Pass through games We gotta work on. The women get better chelsea. I without a shield I don't feel well because when you come out with the door but When pack threw the ball the middle fills open. And i just turned out. Vertical and i may want defend amiss in I seen tyreek on the left hand side of me in his man was guarding him was coming close to me and i just gave him a right foot in the ground and just out random today. So that's one of the offi sir. Feel good be able to move better. feel better Have a lot of energy now Do to. I lost weight this off season. Just trying to keep improving. Kind of escort travis. Kelsey into the end zone touchdown. Great loss on this field team. Yes i got a mentality. I don't stop the whistle blow. So i keep working in Indeffinite by me. "I'm host an audio producer of the arrowhead. Pride podcasts networks steven certa on wednesday. The chiefs are back on the practice field. We heard from head coach. Andy reid quarterback patrick mahomes so as tackle orlando brown junior and linebacker. Nick bolton will kick things off in that order. We'll start with andy reid. Then you'll hear patrick mahomes. We'll take a quick time out. And then you'll hear from tackle orlando brown junior and linebacker. Nick bolton for challenge playing the ravens football team rogan football team. So we're aware that and we'll start off today preparation time. You're working here monday night. This is that kind of problem proposal. Be so vic. Sammy watkins fan. I like him as a human being. I like him as a player. And i wish him the best or playing them so i can't wait them the best for that for the rest of the season. I wish we should the heck of a question but report yesterday. That showed that way scared. Se of two part question here. Have you talked about that. And then what are your concerns about that. He might go to a college division. Yeah listen. I haven't really talked to him about that but i i know he's from that area and he's going to be great wherever he goes so and i'm his biggest fan so astounded if he wants to go there where he wants to go there. Lucky dab unless you guys know how feel on that of the world them. And i think he's a football coach and a great man so and you walk into obviously there but his first game going back into the race. Is there something extra. They come players in the first game. Especially when it's such china offered. Yeah they've got justin houston. They're there's a little bit of that going on in this game of knowing knowing people so and organizations. But i'm sure he'll be excited. I think what it really comes down to it though. He's going to focus on his performance. What he needs to do to to perform well so he's mature guy that waste now couple of years but did between the contains a billing list because of wessel about this against of our very well coached and they're they've got good players and so it's always a knock down drag out fight there and they're tough. That's the way they practice. That's the way you go about their business. And so we've got gotta make sure we prepare ourselves right for it. So every play is on his down when you play them Mournful yeah well. Both of them. Can they know how to run the football and you saw that even with the injuries that are taking place ran the ball. So i think they're office. Coordinator has got a tremendous respect for it. He he's got a great feel for run game. Lamar obviously as a huge threat. I mean he's just he can throw it to run it and he's smart so all those things go in likes to play the game so you gotta prepare yourself the right way. They're going on now. I think it's great they-they've again is a great human being. I think he's good for that organization in particular where they say you know what people perceive where sit now And he hasn't believing in tyrod is a i think he's a very good quarterback. Were i was lucky enough to have them in a pro bowl so got to work with them a little bit and now he has an opportunity to play and look like he took advantage of that opportunity very well back to the practice today. Coming from less state review wouldn't miss didn't have and report back. Yeah so. I mean he's a great player and and not taking anything away from the other guys. I mean they did a nice job back there. But you're obviously. I miss somebody like that. So he's wondering primers signal callers back there so be getting it back in that role and keep the communication. I've everybody's gonna play them. Those guys. it was great great experience for twenty two. Had a nice day problem for how he handles business He's still gonna play. So i mean he's going to have an opportunity he's in different different group. Is it out so but it'd be great to get around back when you talk about justin houston but they have gotten involved cliffs campbell. Wing guys of washington played a raiders with you. Love fast fast fast. They get the ball just as actually playing very well forum slight. Then i'm a fan of his too. So i mean he's a football player and he knows you knows this offense and so but those other guys they they play play hard and aggressive and you know you gotta be accurate. What you do in may help.

"Thanks to patrick mahomes. And you know on a personal note You know this is the kind of person that i have found. Patrick mahomes to be early in me. Getting to know him a little bit and look everybody always says. Well you know mahomes. I don't know mahomes talk to three times a year. I mean that's not knowing somebody. But what i really appreciate about him is that i reached out to the To the franchise. When i was doing my replacement collins my guest columns this summer and i said listen. I'm gonna write about tarez paler and tarez paler for those of you. Don't know he was a football columnist for yahoo sports. Thirty seven years old He he is black and he's been a friend of mine. I'm not. I was not close to tarez but i was getting to know him more and more and this year on the day after the super bowl tarez paler died And so i- he's only. He was only thirty seven years old. So those losses felt obviously in the sports writing road but it's also felt where he lived in kansas city. Patrick mahomes new tarez paler. Well they had a great relationship. And i reached out to the chiefs. Would patrick be willing to write a short essay. Six or seven hundred words for the top of my column on tarez paler attribute collins tarez paler and basically trying to get people to donate money to a scholarship fund at tarez paler alma mater alma mater howard university. Which i thought was so important for very single reason. I started covering the nfl. Nineteen eighty-four. i'd go into a press box. I mean there might be one hundred and fifty people in that press box. Maybe three of them were black. And now i go into a press box. And if i go into a press box with two hundred and fifty people and i'm generalizing maybe thirty or black so progress is being made. But it's still not nearly enough. And so i wanted to make sure that people understood that and i asked patrick mahomes. He agreed to do it and he did it very very well. And i really wanted him to address that aspect of it the fact that we need to see more black reporters covering the nfl. And that's one of the reasons why he wrote this piece for my column and why. He is such a big advocate for the scholarship fund. At howard tarez paler. He wants another generation of sports writers. Who don't look like me to be able to find homes covering the national football league and quite honestly to just be writing about anything leaving college these days because journalism is so important anyway. My thanks to patrick mahomes. You should know that and you should know that. hey look. It didn't take three days to do this but he took time out of his off season to do that. And i am appreciative. So let's go on to my conversation. It chargers training camp last week with the rising star quarterback the los angeles chargers just in herber question. I wanted to ask you for months. Is week two of the season last year. You're standing there. You're backing up. Tyrod taylor and all of a sudden you're told you're in you've never played a live snap in the nfl in your life and now you're having to go out and play against the kansas city chiefs. Can you take me back to that moment in. Describe what it was like and then what you're thinking going on the field at that moment. Of course. I think it's one of those moments that you know i. I've looked to my entire life and being able to go out there and play football in the national football league against the reigning. Super bowl champs. I i don't think it's much better than that and As quickly as it happened. You didn't have to worry about anything you just go. How quickly did it happen. It was maybe maybe fifteen to twenty seconds kickoff and You didn't have to worry about it. as coach anthony lynn. So he comes up to he goes. You're in and i didn't have my helmet so i had to go get my helmet. Did you ask them why. No i just said all right and because we're about to receive the kickoff and i needed to get the plan you you'd get my helmet and there was things that needed to happen really quickly so i i had to run over there and get it but Fun though and then when you went out to the huddle did anybody say anything to you like. Hey kid what are you doing here. I don't think any of them. New hunter henry for the first time when he saw me out there he he almost said you know. What are you doing here. And i just said you know what run play. We're gonna run the plane and hand it off and we're going to get five yards so that's kind of how it went down but It was it was kind of funny. There did anybody on the defense. Say anything to you at that moment. A couple of guys. It kind of started spread throughout the sideline. And i remember. Joey came up to joey. Bosa and slapping on the shoulder and said all right. It's time to go. it's up to you now. And i remember thinking like oh it's my turn you know i get to go out there and play football and To have the support of those guys out there made it a lot easier and then did anybody on the chiefs. Say anything to you when you came up to the line no It was it was really quite and especially with fans out there. Either it was kind of a weird introduction to the nfl but It's funny the way it worked out..

"So you also bought a partial stake in the local pro soccer team sporting kansas city. Why have you bought a stake in both the royals and kansas city. Yeah i mean. I think it's kind of a longtime vision for my future obviously being in kansas city being in this community and seeing the people that we have here. I know that. I'm gonna be for a very long time. And i love for for other sports as well and i love baseball. My dad My fiancee brittany played soccer professionally overseas. So i've developed a love for watching soccer and to see those people in those organizations and how they ran I get the look in on it at an early age And i know once. Football's over i'll still be in sports somehow and so what better way than looking through other organizations that have had success in this area are then comey give me a little insight into it. You really want an nba team in kansas city. Don't you oh. I do big time and We have the infrastructure. We have the the fan base. If you look at lawrence and how We support a the university of kansas. You know that we'd had the fans out there so it's just about trying to get a team here and we'll see if we can make it happen in the in the long run but i i'm excited for what we have now. Have you been active at all and trying to make that happen. I have a little bit. I've talked to some people and try to see what's the chances of getting a team here and it's a it's a long term vision. That hopefully will happen over time. But i mean. I love watching basketball. I'll i'll watch the mavs lot being from texas luca don-shik and all those guys go to work. And i think kansas city it'd be a great place for team. Want to ask you something about the super bowl. After the super bowl i looked up the stats and you were hit or significantly pressured. Twenty nine times in that game which is a super bowl record. No quarterback was ever abused that much in a super bowl which was natural. You had a lot of guys out on the line. It was a makeshift line. And yet knowing you you're still probably really angry about the way the offense played and about how many points you produced in that game. How do you look back on that day. Yeah i think you look back on that day and you have to learn from it. I think the biggest thing when you beat like that By obviously a really good. Football team You have to look back on that and see that you can't come not one hundred percent ready to play every single day and we had injuries here and there but everyone has injuries at their time of year for us to not go out there and be able to even the end zone at all It's something that will haunt me for the rest of my career but You learn you get better from it and try to make sure you're ready to go and whenever you get another chance at you don't Go out and show out like he did that time. How physically healthy were you that day with your foot. The injury to your foot. Yeah i mean it was hurt But i mean it was hurt kind of throughout the entire playoffs. I knew to have surgery after the season. knew that wouldn't be right after the season as quickly as possible and it will be a rehab process of a couple of months And so to me. At that point there was nothing that was gonna hold me back from being on that football field And i feel like if i could if i could have played better earlier in the game and might have kinda lessen the pressure that we got throughout the entire game and so it kinda. That's football works if you don't come out ready to play You can get your tell wolf anywhere so in the time after the game you have surgery. What is the status of your tone. Your foot right now. Yeah it feels good now. I mean this is the best. It's felt since since the play right before the playoffs last year I've been able to go out here have had taken any days off at it. Haven't had to take any plays off whereas in the spring a little bit. Not as when i was doing some of the sprint outs. We kinda let chad to go in and do that type of stuff so being able to do that. And take the constant pressure of every single day running and being on that and not having any setbacks We're in a good spot that hopefully we can keep building and keeping better by even season when you look at your offensive line now. The one that you're practicing with right now what do you think. Is it a work in progress. And what's the chemistry like there. I think that's been the biggest soup i wanna say. Surprised but really surprised for me is the chemistry that they built so quickly. When you have a lot of new guys. I mean in that whole entire offense align room and then without starting five a lot of new guys on that on that group to see them kind of come together. They're hanging out there having dinners. They're eating with each other every single time. We're out. I'm out here at the lunchroom here And they've become best friends So they've already started to build that chemistry. Obviously there'll be bumps here and there where they're learning how we do things here compared to where they were at But you see that fight and that passionate they had for this game. And i think that's gonna that's already really good so he can get even better as the season goes on. Is you've watched the nfl this off season. There's been a bunch of drama with quarterbacks with russell wilson with aaron rodgers and i sort of look at you and i'm sure i mean you're a lot earlier in your career than those guys are but when you look at your place with this team you relationship with andy reid. The coach and bread beach. The general manager seems almost golden. What is your relationship with those guys like. And why has it turned out to be so good. I think the biggest thing is. I mean they just they really want to win and so do i. I think whenever you're looking around the league every guy that's that's kind of had some stuff happen this off season..

"Practice day with the buffalo bills in the dog days of training camp it was a hot one But that's what training camp is all about. And you the couple of things. That i'm gonna talk about with training camp this year and with what has been happening around the league is i think there's this great mystery this great cloud because of covert and what's going to happen or what isn't going to happen much of it. Basically has been centered around the buffalo bills. Everybody thinks that they could be distracted by it. I'm gonna talk about that a little bit. And i'm also going to be talking about the kansas city chiefs and what i saw on my trip to chiefs training camp. But we're also going to have to very good guests this week. Patrick mahomes the former super bowl and league. Mvp heading into another season after he tells me basically that lost the super to the bucks in the super bowl. There's a good chance that it's going to haunt me for the rest of my time in the nfl and then we'll hear from just in her. I talked to him on my trip to orange county where the chargers are having training camp. So we'll get to those interviews but a couple of things. I want to talk about at the top. You know the first one. And i don't want to harp on this and every podcast but i think it's you know the quarterback of the baltimore ravens. Lamar jackson came back to training camp this week in one of the things he said when asked about. Will you get the vaccine. You've tested positive now. Twice for covert. Will you get the vaccine to try to get some insurance against this weird and unpredictable disease and he said it's a personal decision and he didn't really wanna talk did talk about some but he didn't want to tell anybody whether he is or isn't going to get the vaccine and i just thought to myself you know if your quarterback in the nfl you might think it's a personal decision but is it really a personal decision. Because if lamar jackson test positive has symptoms. Let's say on a friday during the season this year. he's gonna have to miss two games. They have to sit out two games. So that's one eighth of a playoff contender season. So you might just say you might just say it's a personal decision and it's all up to me. None of your business. I mean i think it is our business. I just do and so i think that's one part of it but the other part of it i view it as encouraging that about ninety one percent of the players in the nfl right now have gotten at least one shot. They're on their way to be fully vaccinated. No one is going to say. Well that means cove. It's not going to be a big issue this year. It's going to be a big issue. At some point some star is gonna test positive have to miss a game or games because of getting covert and and so right now i think as we look at the way the situation is around the league i think most teams right now are looking at this. Is we've done everything we can. They might be saying well. We still have hope that we can convince guy xyz. But if you haven't gotten it by now. I don't see much a way that those numbers are going to move up there going to be six or seven guys. On average every team basically through training camp anyway are not going to be getting vaccinated. So that's that's one thing. The other thing in more football sense that i wanted to talk about before i bring you patrick mahomes and just in herbert. I wanted to talk about something. I saw in kansas city. You know i wrote about this a little bit in my column football morning in america this this week but you know you go to training camp and you look out and you and you just see okay. What's different here. What are we watching. And i looked out and all five offensive. Linemen were new. None of them started last year. only one of them lucas. Neang the Right tackle who may or may not win the job at. He's starting right now. Every single one of them was not other than lucas neang who opted out last year because a covert every one of them is new from last year. And i think what that tells me tells me two things. They really liked those players and they had a big need after. Patrick mahomes got ransacked in the super bowl. But the other thing is i think it's important when you think about the way the league is going right now. It's important that your quarterback be listened to that your quarterback be respected when it comes to the players on the team. And how the team reacts to that quarterback and i'll give you a perfect example in green bay. Aaron rodgers feels like the packers aren't paying attention is wishes is one of his receivers. Jake kuro right here in buffalo. Probably gonna make the roster and be the fifth or sixth wide receiver and rogers was ticked off when he wasn't there but he was asked ticked off that he wasn't asked for his opinion when they cut kuro. And and i think. Now when i i wrote about this this week when you see patrick mahomes respect for his coach. Andy reid his gm brit vh and brett visas. Respect obviously for homes. I think that should be the model that. Nfl teams use during a when dealing with their quarterbacks anymore. One other thing about kansas city. That was really interesting. I thought is that they are really built to be continuum. They are not built to say. Okay we're gonna win this year and maybe we're gonna. We're really going to go in heavy to win the next two years. If you look at the way this roster is plotted out and planned you see roster that is built to sort of go down the road with patrick mahomes as they bring in young players they bring in players who they think could be long-term hours with patrick mahomes case in point this year. Trey smith. Right guard Sixth-round pick the real reason. He was picked by the kansas city chiefs as that was her last picking the draft. Had they not picked him in the sixth round he would have signed somewhere else in free agency or maybe somebody else picks him in the seventh round but i find it so interesting that the chiefs have the kind of respect for mahomes and he has the respect for them. That is the way to build a team in twenty twenty one football. So let's get to patrick mahomes so i talked to in saint joseph missouri the other day. I think you'll enjoy his conversation for patrick many topics to discuss. But i've got to ask you first about your water burger franchises in kansas city. You're a texas guy. I know a lot of players from texas. Swear by what a burger like in and out guys are in california and everything like that. Tell me why you went. What a burger. Yeah well i mean. Obviously being from texas texas pride in waterbird is kind of at the forefront of that and I've always as a little kid. And then when i got older i babysit my brother. A waterbury literally down the street and we would always grab that and kind of have that. Well my mom was working. And so whenever i got the kansas city. I was the first time i'd really been out of texas. And they didn't have waterbird all the time and so i'm talking to some people we end up making it happen where we got a lot of locations out here and i'll have a little bit of texas here in kansas city. That's pretty cool..

"You just heard from patrick mahomes entire kill and now we continue on with daniel sorensen followed by willie gay. Here's dan sorenson. How's it going. How's the doorman so far skin. Yeah the kid. Yeah i i do i sleep. Good the defense. Early camp Yeah i think Two perspectives perspectives. One third year in the system. We have a lot of veterans in similar roles of Position for us so a lot of experience in that regards and then a lot of young guys that are filling in nicely stepping up learning the system and making plays going in the same hatred the league in notice. How much see progress. Yeah he's picking up The defense really. Well which is you know. Probably the first hurdle for rookie right as you know the understand the scheme and how to play in the system and he he's done that very well he's he's a high energy high effort guy so He's he's been flying around you know making plays and Yeah and they're giving opportunities to do that. Background efficient yes I know zane from obviously from byu and training there in the summers and whatnot. So it'll come to me and ask questions and you know. I love giving advice and experience passing it along to the next guy everything that i've learned and the experiences that i've had which is a lot And just trying to coach them up when when he runs into something that he's struggling with or need some guidance I've been. I've been trying to help them in that. What is patrick. Train quarterback given. You're probably not gonna see many. Yeah this is this is actually. It's really great for our defensive. Deal to go patrick. And the offense and coach read their scheme and the amount of past plays in the schemes that they draw up. It really challenges us and which is great because we can. We can tighten up. We can adjust. We can focus because we know going into the regular season we might not face such a pass heavy pass. Pass heavy proficient throwing offense So if we if we can get all that working in that that training in now It'll be really good for us. During the season i obviously i got here. This may exceed what you even hopeful that been still around after all these years starting for simple way beyond what you thought you know. I i wouldn't say i put limitations on what my expectations were So i'm just taking it moment by moment enjoying the ride. It's been great. So far. I love it and i look forward to With you know continued to grind and continue to work with this team. And you'll accomplish more we. We've done a lot but we're not done yet. No i talk about football. You got football question. That'd be great that that's kinda out of my wheelhouse three super bowls when you look at yourself on absolutely. There's always room for improvement. There's always things we can get better on it and focus on You know yes. It's everything right like you're not perfect in any any regards. I think Biggest thing is thirty in the system. We got a nail down the details right. When you have success and repeated success it's about being very detail oriented About your scheme and knowing your stuff and so so. That's kind of the focus is taking it to the next level right really polishing up what we do and that's what training camps for relieve trained in. What did you anything come here. Just like that question right like you. Just you just find ways to to do more to detail things a little better. So i'm i'm always trying to look for improvements and it's a lot of things that you do take care of your body but i'm always trying to stay on top of it of wonder from. Let's make from the team. We got a lot of guys on the team out without necessarily beauty. You know. I don't really care to answer that question. If you've got a football question that'd be great. That's the end for you guys. Dave merit green room. He brings a lot of experience coach. Mary he was saying this is like his twenty ninth training camp and so he knows ball He knows how to coach the secondary. And i think what. What's the best thing about coach. Mary's he knows how to encourage guys out to get the best out of them To coach them up in a way that they can they can Improve and Kind of take coaching and take it to the field. So he he's everything for us in the secondary and he he's been a great leader for us respect one tournament. Great success last year nardi so together with three six view and looked beach even better this season. Yeah i think the coach is right The ideas that you use people skill set to their advantage. Right and and i think they. They've done that really well. Putting us in in a position where we can use our strengths to help the defense And you know. I would say everybody's versatile right so we can play multiple positions and so They do a good job of putting us in positions but also allowing us to move around and did you different things. based on our skill set so The coaches do a fantastic job of getting guys in the right spot. Got hurt late last year. What was it like wasn't suck man. I was actually at home. I know kobe started cove visit happening. for some reason i could travel know. Don't be uncomfortable me with the need injury on the plane so being at home having to watch the game and then you know of course losing it is i really just you know committed myself to this year and i really wanted to be a lot different. Feel like oh yeah. I'm good second year. Keeping that confidence is really. We've seen he may highlight bellevue mutual preventable off season. And all these man honestly last year. I'd be honest man. You know you have confidence as a player because maybe doing this your whole life. But we can't prepare like you normally do when you don't get that you get a new playbook competence down allied no so having ta having his good training county where we're at right now man learning even more it up a lot so you know and being grammatically being able to understand his game enough to make plays you know it really helps so recognizing things quickly yours likability..

"Third full team practice up in saint joseph today at missouri western state university and after practice we got to hear from four chiefs. Patrick mahomes wide receiver. Tyree kill safety. Daniel sorensen and linebacker willie gay. So you'll hear from patrick mahomes and tyreek hill. We'll take a quick break and you will hear from daniel sorensen and we'll he gave the first up. Here is the quarterback of the kansas city chiefs. Patrick mumps started a couple years. Back was kind of and then kind of build relationship with the league's The people over there at sporting just loving the way that they they run their business and how they kind of really invested into that team and then my world of soccer Starting with brittany That i really wanted to be a part of it and she had the k- In wwl team. That's hurting and i wanted to do my own thing in a sense and And then always supporting the kansas city community. I mean it's such a big part of the community with the soccer community that we have here so it'd be a part of that. Was something special really over. Yeah that's exactly what it is. The community community has embraced me from day. One when i was on alex and they were support. Analogy still showed me love. Then whenever i came into the starting role l. believed in me and so i wanna show that same love back to the community. They've shown me this entire here. Football your owner of this football team gets out because seventy conversations yet. Fc dallas where we we haven't yet. i don't even. I wouldn't even think about that not until you just said that. But i'm sure there'll be a little little robbery there. I think they play literally like upcoming week. So we'll we'll kind of have a friendly will robbery in that sense. But at the same time i mean he he's a he's a great owner and clark and he's a great guy so just be more nothing more than friendly little robbery. Wide receiver are cheap for. Yeah i mean ways have been able to come in and then really executing is the big thing. Obviously he's super talented He can make the plays but he's been able to jump right in with with our played. Look where you know. Co treat isn't isn't slowly now and he's been able to execute make big plays Making contested catches at someone. Has that speed make contested catches a out on the field goals. Yeah i started that kind of mental health in your mind stuff in college. Kingsbury actually had a coach. Kinda guy come in and talk to me about different things in order to meet the folk how focus. I'll put things in perspective. And i kind of stayed with that. I'm to try to talk to different people. Talk to guys that have been talking to the top of the sports in every sport That have come along and and just learn from them and and then at the end the day at the time that you can enjoy with yourself with your family. And i think that's up in big and that's why all seasons. I do my workouts. And do everything i need to do. But i spend that time because i know when i come here. I'm fully embraced in football. Yeah it's been going. Well i mean. I think this is the best how to do it. Especially gets spags defense for the very multiple throw a lot of different looks at you have to know when you can hold the ball a little longer and take that shot and get the baud your hand and let these guys make plays in blessed enough to have a lot of good players around me so all get the ball in my hands. those guys are usually making things happen. Yeah that's that's a lot of money. I'll say that I knew that it was going up for auction. I found out to go for that much and shows that businesses been growing forever and i remember clutching cards. A little kid with my dad and to see that how it's really blown up these days guys like widely and stuff like that opening those boxes. I it really is a cool thing to see especially when it has your name on it. I'll about all out there. But i mean i don't know the internet of those dues do that may definitely use it as an investment. I'm sure they'll try to sell it later for more money by after good about this. The other day remark that convey that keeping doing a sense. I mean you do in the sense that you're trying to win every single day And that starts out here in training camp. If you i mean every single year i come into it. I'm trying to win every so again. I'm trying to go twenty. No nineteen or whatever it is It's really hard to do this while it has been done. Really one time But at the same time you're trying to go with that mentality of your win every single day so that when you get to those games as you have the best chance to win every single game you said it out loud here and haven't said it out loud here. I mean. I think i here and they understand it but at the same time you gotta keep it in perspective. We understand a long process going throughout this entire season So trying to do whatever we can to win every single day as practiced film room whatever that is put us in the best opportunities..

"Heard from chiefs head coach. Andy reid and quarterback patrick mahomes and now we continue on with center. Creed humphry followed by linebacker. Nick bolton here's humphrey throughout the off season yet opportunity to work with patrick. Where is your comfort level. Do you think between the two of you when it comes to snapping the football and how valuable will these first three days before the veterans get in continuing. Were now we a lot of good work in During oj's and everything. So yeah. i feel very comfortable right now. I think we're we have a lot of comfortably between each other. So i'm excited to get to work connects to aaron lad. Good here greet appreciate the time you talked about working with patrick a little bit. I'm wondering if there's been a point entering training now that you kind of realized what. The expectations were kind of what the standards are here in kansas city. Yeah definitely no. Like i said before you know. I'm entering the best organization league right now. So you know. Expectations are high Team standards are high. And you know. I'm ready to get in. Get to work and meet those standards. Taylor coordinate via when you begin your college football career. I think you restaurant but the coaching staff at the time. That maybe you're even ready to start at that point. Is there anything that you can take from that experience and obviously what you did in the ot as maybe you can take that leap to perhaps abuna starter. Week one. he just come in. Take a day by day. In a work of the blue-collar mentality you know. Make sure i'm doing the best. I can every single day in everything that i do next to her. Go every increase you intend to the oil masterminds get together down there in texas. What was your takeaway from that prompted you to attend that. Yeah there's a kind of you know good. Nfl players that. Go to that so When i got the invite house excited You know. I worked with duke many weather. He's the one that puts it on work with him during draft. Prep so Let me come in and it was. It was great to hear from everybody. obviously mitchell area. It was good to you. Know hear from him. Kinda take kind of acres brain a little bit so it was. It was a really good experience. Harold koontz herald. Great i gotta ask you being a oklahoma. Just what your kind of thoughts are on this. Move that sec. Potentially yeah. I don't really have any thoughts on it I know the team will be ready wherever wherever they're going to be so You know. I don't really have any thoughts on it. Gonna danny danny it created so i gotta ask you. What is the number one thing that you brought with you in a training camp. And what are some of the pieces of advice. That of the veterans are telling you gebran with you and have easy to access. Yeah you know. I'm kind of a minimalist guy. Saw broadwood i needed Don't really need a ton of things. So i just really brought what. I needed You know they told me Maybe get a tv or something. If i need it. So i'll probably a iberson about my laptop up by watch stuff on that but that's about it next to Hey creed you had a chance to to work a lot alongside joanie and kyle long during. Ota's what did you soak up from working with those guys during ta and what. You're able to take away that you want to build on now you're going into. I can't yeah. you know. There's a reason those two guys are just exceptional players. You know they come into work every day with the mentality of getting better every single day in house. Kind of thing that i saw from them that i want to really take a take advantage. I was just going improve every single day. When to sam mcdowell Mentioned did some advice from mitchell schwartz. Can you elaborate on. What the advice was yeah. You know just a different techniques used a kind of you know how he took care of his body throughout the season. Things like that Religious stuff to kinda help me through. Okay creed looks like that's all we have. We appreciate your joining us. Sounds good thank you. A hope ball is well. I i know probably a lot of emotions going into your first training. Camp as maybe. They're a piece of advice. If someone is giving you that has stuck with you as you start this journey are you got a lot of advice going dot this muslim formerly just taking day by day china improve every single day is kind of mindset their everybody's kind of Told me about getting here So let's do ice cube. That's better single day. Darren smith dare a nigga. I'm curious with this being your first training camp full training camp with the chiefs. How much of it is excitement for you. How much of it is nervousness. And what are you hoping to get out of it during these next three or four weeks. Probably half excitement a little nervous kind of both Going forward Julie china develop as a player as a team may not ultimate goal. Here is some time. Do my part time via part of championship and doing one eleven. The next to matt their haynick between the time you spent during a ota's what is it that you really picked up the most. You know that stood out to you things that you learn from your teammates. You're looking to try and build on and and take in his camp are. The playbook does dodge I gained osceola. Isn't just going to help build a good foundation of learning the playbook communication unintended thing that you don't get a play playbook guys and so i'm trying to go go ahead and move on that during training camp next to her. Hey nick stagg has been tough on rookies really making them. Prove it over and over again before they'll give them a lot of playing time. Has he said anything to you specifically about what you need to do to get more playing time or any other coaches for that matter No sir There's no expectation that submitted a bill trust on that comes with a repetition and doing instruct the all time so. I was kind of expectation for myself. So it's brought their next esculent senior day. Just give him confidence. And i give myself confidence as well next to pete sweetie could be. I know that a lot of newcomers will rely on veterans. And i was wondering to this point. What has it been like to work with anthony. Hitchens may have taken away. "It was quarterback and rookie report. Day up at saint joe which gave us the opportunity for a zoom media availability with head coach. Andy reid quarterback patrick mahomes center creed humphrey and linebacker nick. Bolton so you're going to hear from all of those individuals in that order on this podcast we'll start with reading mahomes. We'll take a quick break and then you'll get to hear from the rookies right now. Though here is the chiefs head coach. Andy reid guys just on the injury front. We've had some guys that are up here. That will work Andre baker talk oh charleston one thornhill. They'll be doing some activities up here in the in the next couple of days so Molly cairene he'll be period Knee acl. he's just rehabbing. That and our money. Watts will also be up here with a. He had a foot fracture and is doing well just Cow long is is also a proven. Excuse me he's improving and and doing really a great job with his rehab likewise He will not be up here for For this go round for the next couple of days he has been. He has been Rehabbing with us. We've got thirty players that will be here and we're excited about that or or excited to give him some work at. You're not gonna see a lot of team necessarily teamwork as much as you will. Seven on sevens as we go go through this We're glad to be back up here. insane joe. Will we love the hospitality that they give us here. Missouri western state university from the president on down It's just all class and That's why we've we've obviously returned Back here so And it's a great setup. Listen they've got tremendous facilities was give us an opportunity to get our work done. We're out of the city and secluded here a bit focus on on football and the challenge that we have ahead. We've got tremendous schedule. That said before us. And we understand that some heck of a football teams on there and we gotta make sure that we're We're ready to go and there's no better place to do it than here. Just touch it a little bit on the kobe situation. We've got About ninety percent of our players are have been. I've taken the shot and so And are in in that protocol there. As far as what the league's put forward for us so One hundred percent of the staff. They've all been vaccinated. So that's a positive you know there. There's some stats that you i know you guys know but seventy-nine or you can say eighty percent. Nfl players at least one of the shots. So that's within the national football league and they're sixteen and over ninety percent so we're we're glad to be in that they're ninety percent are over and we're glad to be in that in that area there are so are one of the one of the teams where the players have really Made john themselves to get things to get things done and take our business. And there are different protocols take place for vaccinated players in unvaccinated players but again That's that's all for safety purposes. Which i you know. it's an important part of it. As as you go forward in the league's trying to do the best. They possibly can to make a simple process as possible. There'll be some changes so they'll be. We're we're glad the fans are going to be allowed out. They'll be a couple of things that we have to do because of The pandemic and the way it sets but We're we're glad to have our fans back out and as you guys know. You did a great job of this last year with us throughout the off season of of their little things. That are set up for for the media. Also that they've they've got to do so Without again were were excited or excited to be here. And and and ready to go and without a much much guys take it. From there i sam mcdowell And it hasn't gone. Good sam thanking. I think i asked you some version of this the day after the super bowl i wanted to ask you in reflection out of the season nearly complete. Which is you know you want sixteen games last year. You made it to the super bowl. So do you really harp on that. During the offseason as you're going through schematic changes roster changes or do you harp on the way ended and say we need to make maybe more changes than i thought because of those things. Well we thought. Listen you evaluate all of that priority above and you want to be a better. Football team is what you wanna do. You wanna come out of it that way and you and in our case you want to be able to stay on top the best way you possibly can. And and so. We made changes where needed. Obviously there are people that leave every team and people that come on board with every team and that's how it goes and we think we made made some changes where we've got a great competition and and Which should help. Elevate us as a team as an overall tate next to her good coach looking. Good as always. Thanks for this church for you. A coach on we always cops you between the mini campbell. Now but frank clark's situation two part question here for you. The first one is what was your reaction to the news on his two arrests. And i'll i'll follow up with the other question afterwards. Listen i say communication with all our players during the break. The best way i possibly can so I have had a chance to talk with frank. I'm not to get into that. There's nothing that is taking place up to this. Frank will be here and we'll we'll go forward with that. Obviously we keep tabs on it. And he'll his people keep tabs on their side of it and we move forward so that that's where we're at now but he will be here not not now but in a couple of days here when the veterans inclusion has follow with the uncertainty of this situation if the league take action which is what is your comfort level right now at the defensive end position of it. You'll be able to if you mrs time for the season. Yeah so listen. We brought old ninety seven back and put him back in the mix here last wayside. I think that's a good addition I think we're gonna be okay there. We've got a couple of young guys. That are good football players to so next to pete swinging let me this today too and just a reminder that chris was working both spots so he has the flexibility by move chris out there and that's where the doron read part of this. I think was a was a big addition of each attitudes next to pete. Sweeney would be coach. We had an opportunity to speak with nick. Bolton and creed humphry earlier today and considering that and going into a rookie camp top two. Second rounder stare. What are your expectations for each specifically What have you seen out of them. So far this season. I think they're good These are both good football players. I think the experience that they got ot period what was good for him But now listen now. Put the pads on and we'll see i really think that They'll determine how things go here down the road but both of them..

"The chiefs wrapped up their three day. Mandatory minicamp on thursday and after the fitness test. Put head coach. Andy reid quarterback patrick mahomes and safety and matthew up at the zoom podium. So on this podcast. We will go in that order. you'll hear from the head. Coach will continue on with the quarterback. And we'll finish up with safety tired matthew. The first step here is the head coach of the the chiefs. Andy reid law. Start off the snow injuries to talk about. We'll get to all that once. Get to camp and would enroll from there but for our way Dodgers first adam. Teicher good at a couple of things. I i wanted to get your thoughts on how this portion of the off season what you felt like you got out of otas minicamp. Brattle had a second question is well listen. I told the players said i fly appreciated their attendants During during this time. I will have a lot of new faces so it gave us a great introduction to the office depot special team so Which i thought was was huge for us. And then we'll go ahead and fine tune. Everything was we get up to once we get up to training camp but again. I thought it went. Well adam them. I liked the attitude of the guys that came and ready to work. And that's what they did. They finished up here with a little conditioning drill and they degrade on that so there. They've got a good mindset. As as coaches whipper shaker. Okay and one guy. I've been meaning to ask you about his jerick mckinnon on. What did you guys like about him. How do you see him fitting in to steamy. Give you something that your other backs. Don't give yeah so While he's experienced he's been he's been known that awhile and he does well he he's good. This was more passing camps more than running cash but he has a nice feel of the of the past game and look forward. I i look for to give given the whole package once we once we get up there and let's see we do What what was playing real football next to her. Gop got good morning coach. I very two questions your for your clothes. The first one's kind of follow up on what atom asks. You mentioned a appreciate the players phone. What is your comfort level at this stage heading into training camp when you compare it to last year when you have this portion of the offseason workout program on on these zoom calls as you know i mean can you can install. You can do all that that you talk about. Fundamentals and techniques. But you can't you can't work on and that's just blow it's real So The this gene opportunity actually run the play and work on the fundamentals and techniques and let the players the coaches evaluated evaluated their last season To sit there and help them better with with the again techniques finals it. They might be so. I think it's a win win. I think it's great to have the technology of at the same time. I think it's important that we were still able to get him on the field. And i said this before. I get support of the coaches hamlet. The right way and try to get the players to save as they possibly can that for us that means giving up the right lane game part of it. We did that versus air bags but we. We didn't do it against each other than that. That's what we do. You know so you gotta try to keep them safe as you possibly can include. Finally travis kills you on. Tuesday expressed surprise at some of the comments. That levy on bell me. Are you aware of what was your reaction to that. I really enjoyed my time with a beer so I appreciated the way it handled things and does business and has productive downs for us. And i'm pulling for him in the future. I mean that's how that's how rural people say things they say. Then so i move on. I wish him the best. you know. pete. Sweeney good morning coach. Just because we won't get you now for another month in change here. You'd said patrick mahomes was able to go full because it was a passing salad camp. How much is your expectation with. The dachshund stuff that he's going to be able to be one hundred percent when you running stuff quarterback scrambles out of structure. When you get to camp. That i mean we were. We were cautious with them. He he'll he'll do anything. And so you know it's just a matter that we were. We were smart to be as far as we possibly could with. It and his communication was great. He kept it open with us and we checked with them and make sure and see how he was doing during practices. And not just the first day but you wanna check on third day too so To see how and he made it through thick. This is good for him We'll see how he feels. Once we get up to camp. He sure got a lot of work. Done here came out film. Forget next a man mullet goodman coach clyde yesterday and he said at one area to prove this offseason passing game as a receiver. How much coach you appreciate it. When a young player comes with a specific thing they want to work on yeah. I think that's good. You know we. We didn't have a huge expanded role for him in the past game. Just kinda Swing of the defenses at the. Nfl plays in all but run plays that we have the rows away. Didn't have the time everybody but we've tried to give them a little bit more this offseason and he's handled it well before to get him of training camp where we can keep on in.
