All right, Michael, thanks for coming up to 6 23 on Wall Street. I'm Nathan Hager, and this is Bloomberg daybreak. And we're thinking about a master plan. That's what Elon Musk calls his visions for Tesla and he is about to unveil his third master plan for the electric vehicle maker at an investor day in Austin, Texas. It'll be a big test for the company and the 70% surge the stock has seen so far this year. Joining us for more on this, Bloomberg global autos editor Craig trudell, Craig, good morning, as I said, we've seen two other master plans for Elon Musk in the past when it comes to Tesla. What are investors looking for today? Yeah, I think it's going to be very interesting to see how much the new master plan varies if at all from the last one, which it's going on quite a few years since that came out. That was around the time that Tesla was acquiring SolarCity and that plan kind of reads in retrospect is sort of justification for that deal, which must more recently has said he's regretted that. A lot of what was in that plan also has not been accomplished yet. He hasn't delivered the self-driving capability or the robo tax fees that he talked about there. Tesla isn't in all of the segments that the company talked about like buses and is barely making semi trucks, but of course the company has achieved sort of the overarching goal of really accelerating the embrace of sustainable energy. And so this is to the extent that we have gotten hints from Musk of what he's talked about, you want to talk about a big addressable market he's talked about a fully sustainable energy future for earth. So that's quite broad. Yeah, to say the very least. And even since that first master plan we've heard Elon Musk talk about things like robots, artificial intelligence, of course, cyber truck as well at the same time, we're hearing reports that they could start saying more about finally a lower priced electric vehicle. Is that going to be enough for investors to see at least incremental steps toward something bigger from Tesla? It's going to be really interesting how investors sort of digest talk about a more affordable model because obviously they're going to need something much cheaper to reach the level of scale Musk has talked about aiming for. He's said that the goal is to sell 20 million cars a year by the end of the decade. That is far and away more than any company has done in the past. Tesla and Volkswagen for a time were routinely doing ten 11 million a year, but to do 20 would be absolutely unprecedented. And the extent to which the company is able to bring prices down while preserving profitability is obviously something that's going to be top of mind because I think we've sort of gotten used to Tesla not just talking about growth, but sort of pointing to its margins as being a reason to be excited, so excited about the stock. And so can they deliver a cheaper model that in the end the model three never really was $35,000 or got close to that and yet the company has expanded so much. It's just a question of how much longer they can continue to keep that up without making some compromises on price points and profitability. Just 30 seconds left here, Craig, is Elon Musk focused on Tesla after all the drummer on Twitter. I think we see evidence every day that he is still pretty distracted right with running Twitter. And just using the service himself, of course, I do think that Tesla has done a better job of getting its message out and that he has talked more about the company. I think a lot of his investors got kind of sick of him just talking to Twitter, Twitter, Twitter last year. And that maybe has contributed to the run up in the stock and some of the recovery that we've seen just in the last couple of months. Hey, so I'm pretty interested in seeing how well he's done lately and with Patrick Kane and I think I'm kind of curious on your thoughts of if his value has been going up a lot with how well he's been playing as well as Patrick Kane obviously maybe not all the wins are the best for the tank, right? But they're great for team morale, but I think that the value of both dominion has gone up a lot pre trade deadline. No, I definitely agree with you Christian. I don't see how that can't be the case because Patrick Kane's recent surge over these last four games has been so huge compared to the beginning of the season. Max domi is even a little bit more interesting because he was kind of signed on to this team for just a one year deal the moment the black clocks inked a deal with him and Andreas ethnicity who it was looked at as, okay, this is trade bait. These are guys that could be point producers, they're on one year deals. They could be easily moved, but from all the conversations that we've had with max domi, he's loving Chicago. He's loving playing with Patrick Kane, obviously the better those two do, the less likely they're going to remain here. I know that Patrick Kane situation is not arbitrary, but just totally kind of random at this point. It's just based on what Patrick Kane is feeling, which we don't quite know still, but yeah, the way these two are playing together, it's helping out the black hawks in multiple ways, right? It's helping them win and play better right now. And bulking up their trade value is beneficial for the Blackhawks as well. Wouldn't you say Christian? Right. And I think that we could get to ourselves a situation where domi likes it here and maybe cane passes on a trade than we ended up getting a number one overall and we still got paid. And then it may be a little more enticing for them all to stay maybe a reduced salary, right? If we know we're getting bedard and in the coming season, nice to have some veterans here for the rebuild. I don't know what you think about that. I mean, Christian, I think that's a lot of optimistic thinking that's everything working out as best case scenario. "This very well going into the year during the year. There was so much conversation about what exactly would happen with Jonathan taves and Patrick Kane moving forward. We still don't know for sure what is going to happen. You know, these are two guys who have had so much success here in Chicago. This has been their home now for the past 15 years or so. We've had a ton of winning. Canaan tapes. Those two 5 home games remaining, by the way, for the Blackhawks before the NHL trade deadline, which is March 3rd. So you want to see those two, maybe play some final games and Black Hawk sweaters at the united center. You've got some opportunities to do that. But Jonathan tape was scratched tonight, about 45 minutes before puck drop. The team announcing he was out with a non COVID illness his second game, he's missed this season with an illness, hopefully that's nothing long term and tapes can be back out there Saturday night when the black hawks wrap up their road trip and their pre all star break schedule, taking on a tough Edmonton team, obviously. With a ton of firepower on that roster. So let's hope the hawks can finish out their schedule strong at Edmonton Saturday night before they do head into the all star break. Again, Jackson stubborn his second career start 35 saves on 35 shots from the Calgary flames who are fighting for a playoff spot very much so we talked to Troy who was born in Calgary, grew up near Edmonton a few hours north so he had some friends and people at the arena tonight and there's some pressure on Calgary to perform and the Blackhawks beat them in just about every aspect of the game tonight. "Just are relentless. It's what John Tortorella wants is the head coach. That's what Jeremy Collinson wants as a head coach with his team there. There's nothing fancy about it. You get pucks out. You get pucks in you crash the front of the net. You look about how they scored that goal, the Columbus Blue Jackets did. It's a drive to the net with men following up there, and, if the rebound by Boone Jenner Blackhawks getting on the scoreboard first and Maced well executed three on to where the Black Cocks and Patrick Kane decision after Kirsch picking up his third goal of the season. So Blackhawks doing a nice job I'd still like to see More shots and more traffic coming through to the Columbus end of the ice. I think that that's really what Columbus did to generate some of their chances and to get some scramble play inside the Their offensive zone by just throwing pucks towards the front of the Net. And the Blackhawks a little bit more pressured what they needed to do in their own end of the ice to finish that first period, but it's all in period. Gives me didn't have my mic on in the Friday night game. The first period shots were very low. Columbus set a one Nothing lead and then second period. The Blackhawks opened it up. They got 19 shots on goal against the jackets in that second period, so let's hope that the trend might continue here. Well, you hope so in the Black Hawks did a lot of things right? You've got a lot of pressure on you. Once you're in your own end of the ice, because any time that parks go in the Columbus doesn't let the goaltender play it very often. There's very smart, very disciplined. How they put pucks into the offensive zone, so the defense got to get back there. And that's where he talked about his key to the game. Kleenex.
