All right, We got it. We got a lot to discuss. Obviously, warriors. Nick's last night, of course. James Wiseman returns Patrick Ewing in your conversation with him to get the second half schedule out, So we want to get your opinion on that. I got to tell you. We're watching post game last night. My wife wife comes walking in the room. She loved your socks. She was all over the socks, man. She liked us. Well done. Well done. Good work. Yeah, She liked those a lot, man. I dug him out of the clean hamper in the hands of psycho out there on the way out the door. You are strong with the Sox game. I got to tell you, you're always wanting a sex game. The audience that lifts up time. What it would take the eyes to your feet. Right here is the right guy. S O much feedback. I've got that I sent you an email from a viewer last night that just love the Patrick Ewing interview and we just played a step it but before we get into some of the details of the conversation You guys visited for like 20 minutes on Monday, and you're going back to the two best players in the history, the biggest conference to change college basketball. You coached against his son You coached against him? You have great love and respect. Just tell me about the 20 minutes. You said with spend with Patrick on Monday of money, Molly Way we could have talked for another two hours, actually, but John Pop? Yeah. Our history just goes back so long now and you know, it was like one of those relationships that just kept growing. Initially, you know, bitter rivals. Very little communication. Is that all you know, through college and then you know, we have a great fortune playing 84 Olympic team which poppies and then there wasn't on last night. He references you know, the original Dream team and You were that quick, you know, full summer and 84 back to 85 where we compete in the final Four, you know, and through our pro careers. Ironically, he wanted going to New York where I was from. I came out here and there was some talk at some point our career, you know, teaming up together. Um, 92 Olympics. The original Dream team just had great. We spent a lot of time that summer together. On really became close through that experience. And then you know, wanting are playing careers down. Patrick went into obviously long assistant coach in Korea in the MBA. I was in the front office and we would bump into each other. You know, when he came in town, we grab him. And when he was with you, the Washington Charlotte all that we'd always get together. Um and then coach against him was so much fun. It was really cool to do that. Remember the first time he came back to Madison Square Garden with Georgetown at the head coach John Thompson. Was there. Lou Carnesecca was there was really, uh, you know, it was emotional. It was fun. We just had a lot of fun competing. Get Joe. We actually had a really close games against each other as coaches. And you know what I like. Talk to last night. Very similar experiences. Where were you know what he's doing now is really passing on the knowledge that guidance and the mentorship that he was given by John Thompson. Um And I, you know, I talked about how I don't think a day goes by, um That some of those experience don't pop into my mind. I use them for judgment. Things like that. So it was. It was a really cool sit down. Hey, had just beaten seen Hall and last night they loved you cause so they're going to really think they've got a big time in Korean class coming in, Um So I looked for big things for him. I told you last night pop with my ideal situation for him. We would have him win a national championship in Georgetown and we'll come back and be a head coach in the NBA, which I think he's thoroughly Was prepared for overqualified, and I think he'd do a great job. That was a great interview last night, Patrick Ewing and Chris Mullin. Molly is joining us as he always does here on pop inland on the SportsCenter. You brought up a great point, though, because the photo shopped You looked really, really cool with him and run TMC, But you made the point of if he was here. You would have probably been there. You know, The funny thing is John is, um, go back to so Patrick's agent was David Faulk. My age was Bill Pollock, and they both came out of pro Serves. Aziz Young agents from Donald Dell. S so I'm thinking as David Faulk was talking to the Warriors might think you were talking to the next and around. See what I was telling Pop this off the air. Bill Pollock had represented Bernard King and Bernard King had an incredible season here, and at that point time they couldn't afford him. And the next, you know, being the big market. That's when Bernard went to the Knicks were my contract was coming up. Not by coincidence. It was dialogue with the Knicks, you know, so I think you know someone leverage standpoint, that was a smart thing to do on. Ultimately, my agent Bill public always loved this area. The Bay Area was his favorite place in the world. And advised me he thought this was the best place for me. Basketball wise and in long term, just for you know, for future lifestyle and for helping, you know, just help me happy Life and He was right on 100%. Will you raise your whole family? You've been out here forever and ever and ever. And so this was you sign that that nine year was a 27 million. Whatever it was, it was the biggest contract in history..

"That, you know, could they have kept run TMC, Tim, Mitch and Chris And had it center. Not Alton Lister. And we do love Alton Lister, Shawn. Camp Close All Mister now. Oh, that's good. They have added Patrick. You can you imagine? Good their team would have. Then they added Ewing to runty have seen Oh, my God. So it's It's how we get you set this up for you. Let's just let's just roll it now. So this is Molly. They get a 21 minute interview on Monday. Crystal join us coming up 12 30. But the point of this conversation is Molly showing and it's a photoshopped pics. There's a couple of them one that I saw. This is one where they put him on the bench right next to run TMC another one when they're actually on the floor. Playing together, but Christa's bring up the possibility of Patrick Ewing leaving New York and joining the run TMC warriors. I sent you something on your phone A picture of makes him in myself with you in the center. For the Bay Area goes with every chance Patrick humans was going to join. Run DMC. Oh, definitely definitely with a chance, you know. You know, Imagine all all of us playing on one team. They talk about these guys team enough we would have, we would have won. Ah, lot of titles. But it almost came to pass. But it didn't and I was the nick for for 15 years. Um, but you know, it is what it is, Chris. I would have had a lot of fun playing with you Have, you know had fun playing with you, but in both Olympics had a lot of you talk about sleeping the sleep sleepless nights. Had a lot of sleepless nights thinking about how the hell are we gonna guard you Way try to rough you up. We try to do everything to try to get you out of the game. But you kept on sticking that left handed jumper in our faces. Well, it was great times many great memories. It is what it is. What are you talking about? It is what it is. What kind of the bed you know, Queuing is a warrior. Why did that happen? Oh, Molly had a great point, He said If you were here, I probably would have been back in New York. Well, that's the other side of the story. They will tell that You know, that's like the classic L. Davis line Avila piano when he calls Phil Villa piano, and he says, I'm thinking of trading for Bobby Chandler. I think that's a good idea. Oh, l you have a chance to get Bobby Chandler. He's a great player. You trade for Bobby Chandler immediately And l told Phil I'm glad you feel that way because I just traded you. Providing Chandler that it's cool. That is a cold wind. And don't somebody mad didn't have to tell him it always and Phil, you're moving to Buffalo. All right, Molly, with agreed that would not have been the trade. They would've gone. His free agents Malil now that all the principals air passed away by the body will tell the story. He could have been a nick the other side of alright. We'll get into that. It's a great anniversary for great trade for the wars, and Molly was the one who did it. Obviously, we'll get into the Knicks and the Warriors last night, Dre redeems himself at least for a night and he had Great praise for James Wiseman, who just played in his first game coming back, played about 15 minutes and Molly like that we're getting all those conversations next pop in London. We hear on the SportsCenter. Speak, Papa and learn to the house. Your house. Listen to these sports leader on your.

"Out on a hunt day. Chris Mullin, bottom of the hour. 12 30. He's a Hall of Famer. And he's darn good with you guys lost son was great for the Knicks and the words and Pacers. Up tonight. You will hear a little bit from Patrick Ewing and Chris Mullin last night. By the way of one of the Twitter accounts I'd like to follow is this day and suck and they keep you up to date on what's going on and the Warriors history. This was a good day and suck the Warriors Trade Dale Davis and Speedy Claxton to the New Orleans Hornets for 25 year old. Two time All star Baron Davis. It's good to know who made that trade who made that trade. No more. Chris Mullin probably is best transaction. As the champ of the Warriors and You know, bear and had a hard time and he got into it with the owner, and, uh, it was the New Orleans Hornets of the time. Uh, You know, he should thickly built guy wasn't always in great shape and their owner there a lot of the move them. It obviously was a lopsided trade. But I think what the Hornets were thinking addition by subtraction to get Baron out. But he came here and just arrived. You know, he was Anneli kind of player kind of Ah Hardaway player. They were able to get him on the floor. For enough time. It was a really wild group obviously was stacked Jack and Matt Barnes. And I mean, now we believe Team Jason Richardson and They were edgy. They were a little different group and Able to pull off the big upset over Dirk Novitski off his M V P year and Nellie out coaching them and all that, and in the dunk over Andre Kirilenko and Then you know he were talking about that as well. You know, it's far as making the All Star team. Baron Davis never made the All Star team with warriors, and he had years where you put up all Star numbers. But it was they didn't quite win enough. And you know, Baron was omitted. A little bit and He wasn't here long, long time, but I've heard people rank him is one of the best point guards in the history of the team. I think that's so slight hyperbole. You know, he'd be in the top 10, but hey, wasn't in fact ballplayer. There's no doubt and it helped build. The run TMC group is wildly popular, but the We believe teams are just people love those teams, and he was the best player on that group and have the signature moment they did losing 60, Utah, but Set down over AK 47 probably best in game Duncan, the history the franchise, so Yeah, that was Molly. We'll talk to him about that, because that was probably his best transaction is the GM of the Warriors. No doubt. So we're going to have that conversation with Molina here from Patrick Ewing and Molly in just a few minutes of the second half schedule. Has been released by Warriors PR, So he told you the right out of the gate March, 11th will kick off the second half for tip off the second half as far as the Warriors at L. A Clippers that's on TNT. Then Utah on Sunday. That's a day game at one o'clock Lakers on ESPN at home, so it's at Clippers, Utah and the Lakers, but they do finish with the six consecutive at home and again. This starts on March 11th finishes on May 16th. They finished with six at home. Oklahoma City twice Utah Phoenix, New Orleans, Memphis. So the final six games of the season at home, Utah and Phoenix some tough ones in there, but That's an advantage as they try to strive for the playoffs. And, as you said before, try to strive to stay out of that seven seed, which would put you in the bubble. Yes, sir. You're getting long home stands and then you know long road trips as well Just to deal with the pandemic. The one thing that I noticed was the second game of the second half schedule is a Sunday, one o'clock tip off. That's not on ABC and Mike Breen. That's an MBA TV game. Ah, I wonder about the start time of that game because they have been even games that have been scheduled for earlier in the day, even pushed back because of covert testing. I don't know where we're gonna be. On March, the 15th of March 14th. But that game is scheduled for a matinee. I remember the worries playing too many Sunday afternoon ear's chased, so that'd be interesting. They may have to move that came back just because of covert and you know, the first three that you said coming out at the Clippers home for Utah and the Lakers. Those are the three best teams in the conference. Then you go away on the road at Houston two and Memphis, Philadelphia finally comes in on Tuesday. They're one of the best teams in basketball. At Sacramento. Got some interesting road trips at Miami and Toronto's playing in Tampa, and then I'm gonna sweep through the Southeast in Atlanta. Um, And then they have a long road trip in April, right around tax day at Oklahoma City at Cleveland at Boston had Philly at Washington and demanding trip. They have another long trip where they're at Minnesota, Houston, New Orleans twice. You know you get into these baseball series. Then you mention to come home for For six in a row at home. Okay. See twice. Utah Phoenix, New Orleans. In Memphis. You know, the key thing would be Can they avoid that play in tournament and Don't know exactly Even how that's gonna work. John, is that you are if you are so far in front of number is number seven. In the number 10 team. It's kind of like in the bubble right where you have points accrued right? So, um, you'd rather be seven and Chan, I think We'll get more details and how this is gonna work. What do you see them? They're playing better. Now. We'll break Jr clearly has figured out his role here on both ends of the floor. Do you see them getting into the top six in the conference and avoiding that seven? It's N playing tournament. That's gonna be tough because you guys talked about this last night and everybody's talking about at this point. They haven't won three of their lost three. I mean, they're the dictionary definition of a 500 team, as they said at 17 and 15. And what's What's crazy to me is the Blazers with all their injuries. Nurkic has been out for a while there 18 13. I thought the Spurs would fall off their 16 and 11. The team that is underachieving. The Nuggets are in the seven. I think it's gonna be tough to although you could jump the Nuggets, I guess, but I just think there they've got a spurt in him. That's gonna be tough to get out of those teams. Yeah. I think Jennifer's gonna move up jealous eventually is gonna move up. That's probably it I got New Orleans would be better, but they could be who they are so We'll see. We'll get Molly's thoughts. But I think he's been looking at. You know, San Antonio is way better than I thought they would be me to could they slide back? I mean in Utah. To Ella's Phoenix is good. Portland could slide back. I think Danvers gonna go up. I think Dallas is gonna go up and then we'll see if the Warriors can Can get a little spurting here and went three in a row. Anyway. Money's coming up to 12 30. I've got a lot of feedback from what he did. He actually did this on Monday. A. I think he checked it like three o'clock and They did, like 21 minutes would put a lot of the pre game. You put a lot of the post game. We're gonna play this to snippet of it here because there was that always that rumor. That I was not even aware of doing the games, then..
Down Time Doesn't Exist for Tommy Amaker
"I mean, you're you're super involved now with the NBC and I love that Craig Robinson's done a phenomenal phenomenal job taking over being active. Like I feel like that organization was dormant for years and he's done a great job. And I know you you're involved in that you've been involved in some other things because otherwise your wife's going to I mean, like like there's no way if you're not doing something. What do you get going to be annoying her? Well, she know what first of all she's really busy and and everybody with with the zoom meetings and everything where you know, I mean one party email. She's another you know, we got the we have to find out what when I can walk in and out of the kitchen, you know, because she's there in that area. So we gotta get our schedules coordinated, but but you're right just you know, as far as the dog See, you know, the National Association of Basketball Coaches is our governing body, you know for all of our divisions all divisions of college basketball and we're very proud of the association and I'm I'm very proud to be on the board of directors of that. I've been on that now for for a while and and now that you mentioned Craig being on new executive director and he's doing as you said so well a tremendous job of like us and supporting us, you know, we have great leadership and you know take anything away from Jim Haney, you know, but Craig is jumping in now and Baton has been passed to him and and we're proud to be a part of it together and I want a few committees. Actually. I'm on I'm co-chair myself and Frank Martin from South Carolina. We co-chair the racial reconciliation committee, which is a very important job that was created after the George Floyd murder and I was asked to share that and I was wow, you know, it was really blown away that I was asked to do it and but we've taken initiatives, you know, we've been fighting for certain things with them. Organization to help you know us to you know, bring about change to make a difference, you know in our society and through basketball, you know, whether that's the elimination of trying to take on elimination of old SAT and ACT test standardized test, you know, we're doing things when we were heavily involved with other coaches as well with voter registration, you know, some different things that have come up, you know come down and I have been a part of you know, something as anchor coaches for another initiative. That was his his baby in his brainchild is called a John McLendon minority leadership under the name that you guys, you know know who and and Bob you probably you probably knew, you know, coach McLendon. I wish I did know I didn't yeah. Oh totally well aware of. Yes, just the legendary faith. And and so we're we're you know, we have that's a coach driven initiative. You know, we're all coaches. We have Patrick Ewing. We have Coach K. We have Dabo swinney's Nick Saban football basketball. What channel is the one he and I have kind of been the anchor coaches, but it's been he's driven. It has been his idea. And that's something that we're bringing about having minorities more minorities women and men wage being having exposure and access and opportunity on athletic campuses to become Future Leaders, you know, we've talked about how do we get more? You know black people African Americans minorities in leadership positions. Well, this is one of the ways that we can try to do that to help diversify athletic departments.
LeBron James and the Miami Heat: From Champions to Breakup to NBA Finals Opponents
"Brian Windhorst you have spent I think the last decade of your life trying to establish successfully establishing by the way that you are a lot more than the Lebron guy after knowing and covering him longer than any other human being in our business dating back to your high school days in Akron and then even through the time you famously up and moved to Miami to cover him there. So I just want to begin by apologising for pulling you back into the orbit of the same son we've been worshiping for now seventeen years well I wouldn't be here but for Lebron I, extraordinarily fortunate to meet him when He. Was Fourteen years old his move to Miami in open the door for me to come to ESPN. So I, Oh, Lebron immensely, and while all of us want to spread our wings as we get older certainly would never shy away from or or tire from looking at this this guy because he's been influential character in my life and thankfully and influential character in the history of the NBA. Yeah. That was incredibly well said but now it's time to get super messy because in this case in this series where there are so many different interesting storylines and angles, it does feel like past might be prologue. I want to go back ten years now. It is July ninth, two, thousand and ten and Lebron James is introduced to heat fans for the first time along with Dwayne Wade and Chris. Bosh introduced to the NBA really for the first time as this big three and Lebron is asked about his plan for winning championships in Miami. Three kings came down here to win championships. Not One championship to Lebron. Tell us about that not too on. Now. Now by. Not. Fix. So at that moment. How did the Miami Heat See Lebron era playing out? Pat Riley thought that that was. The Greatest Dynasty team that he had ever been able to be a part of. Better than magic and Kareem and James Worthy. Better. Than Shack and Dwayne Wade better than the hopeful teams that he had with the next with Patrick Ewing and Allan Houston John starks. He thought this was one of the greatest teams in the history of the NBA. He saw a horizon for a decade where they would be in the finals year after year after year and maybe they wouldn't win it every year and maybe they wouldn't win five six or seven Lebron said, but they would rack up. It was going to be his sunset team. He was going to ride this dynasty out and then go into the sunset and it was an incredible for years. It was one of the most prolific four year runs in the history of the NBA, but it wasn't that dynasty and Pat. Riley, has never one hundred percent ever gotten over.

Flu Game, Kerr's Story, Jalen's Reflection
"I know this was motionless evening for you. I know as an emotional evening for you to watch your team. Push Michael Jordan's bulls further than they have only been pushed once before to a game seven and be so close to winning. It would feel like sitting downstairs. And you're watching this episode it was it was bittersweet. Jacoby because the one thing about being on a team one of the legends. That Michael Jordan. Stop from getting Reggie Miller Patrick Ewing Karl Malone John Stockton Charolais. So can Charles Barkley and Gary Payton Clyde Drexler Chunk. Is that that black cat. Some special and while the rest of the world gets a chance to enjoy and celebrate him as a former Pistons. growing up still native Detroit. Ann Reid with my squad to the fullest and then plan for the Pacers. I basically never got a chance to appreciate the greatness of Michael Jordan. "Patrick Ewing will join US coming up. I did talk to him yesterday because Fritzy reached out to Patrick and then Patrick said hey you got a second call me and I call him and he goes. Hey I don't enjoy talking about this stuff you guys got to enjoy it and I said look if you don't WanNa do it. He Goes No. I'll do it. You're my guy I'll do it for you but just so you know. In then I told him about. Reggie Miller Reggie's reaction after watching the first two episodes and he said why did Reggie Watch and I said why. Ask Him to do that and then he laughed he goes. This is fun for us just so you know this fun. You know. We deliver it in now. I gotTa Talk to my kid's classrooms on Tuesday. Morning They WanNa ask me about Michael Jordan. Because this and fun he said. But I'll talk about it here. Yeah Paulie do you think it's apples and oranges? But he thinks it's a little bit like a guy like us. You got the grade school bully. Who picked on you when you're in grade school and you go back for the reunion. And you're still bothered by that bully. It's not like Oh let's forgive him. Forget it's been twenty five years. Let's all hang out and have a drink at the bar through union. That's the guy who picked on you when you're younger and you never it go. I know it's sports. Bullying but Jordan was a sports version of a bully. He beat you and let you know afterwards. And he's still. Lets people know? And Ewing had to work for HIM FOR YEARS DOWN IN CHARLOTTE. I'm sure he let them know all the time. It's not Cathartic even Reggie. When he was talking about this you could tell that he was pained by it. And then when I said what would you do if you saw Jordan in a restaurant he said I'd I'd either hugging. We're punch him. It's real that's what people have to understand. We're we look at it with the novelty and you look at it at the entertainment value. Like oh man. That was so much fun. Boy You got to play against Jordan. Yeah and they didn't like it. Well there was that if there's one thing to just lose to Jordan but like you're saying Jordan has that extra element and they show it in the last dance all the time. It's Michael Jordan is in the garden for his last game at Madison Square Garden. He's playing the Nixon's listen up his sneakers and Patrick you and comes into shake his hand. I don't know if it was after the game or before the game whichever but he Michael Jordan immediately before they even shake hands says something like man. I haven't lived somebody's ass like since eighty four and you know that he's talking about Georgetown and Patrick Ewing and it's like Damn Dude like that was like twenty years ago and you're still killing me for that. That must be. That would've driven me crazy if I was one of those guys and he never forgets. Never mclovin you got a poll question for me today okay. We always do this question. And it's funny today of our guest list today. Whose career would you want you? Patrick Ewing Brooks kept ga great career or Mike. Florio lawyer turned blogger. Awesome Man Cave a West Virginia but serious question. We were debating with you in coming on if you could start your team with any center from nineteen eighty four on. Let's say who is the guy who started a team and we could ask Patrick the same question to see if he goes with himself. The choices being allies Robinson Ewing Shack distort with now. This brings up a really uncomfortable situation. I had with Patrick Ewing when we were in San Antonio with the mothership and we're covering the NBA finals. And that's when I sat first time I ever sat down with him and got to know. Patrick Ewing that's because the Mark Jackson Mark Jackson was one of the analysts for the NBA finals. And we sit down. He didn't invite me to dinner because Mark I was with John Kerry and John was working on the broadcast with us and we saw mark and we said hey you wanna go to dinner with us. He goes now. I CAN'T I. I got other plants in. I joked with him. I thought he was kidding. Around with me I said come on. Let's go we're going to go. There's great steakhouse. No No. I got other plans. I symbol. Wait who you see him. Behind my back. He Goes Patrick and I thought he was saying my name and he goes. I said and he goes no ewing. I said you're going to dinner with Patrick. Ewing goes. Yeah he not big on the media. I said you're a member of the media goes. I know but I'm a player to where we're friends from back in the you know the big East Taste. I find you go to your dinner. With Patrick Ewing John Barry. And I take a stroll in San Antonio. We'd stumbled into the same steakhouse as ewing and March. They're sitting there and John Goes. I'M GONNA go over and say hello to to Patrick and I said well maybe I should stand back because Mark Jackson says you know Patrick doesn't like the medium. John goes over next thing. I know John Sitting down at the table and I said all right. Whatever I'm going over I sit down so we talk and Patrick was you know a little reticent he was he was quiet and Mark Jackson turns to me and says what did you say to Patrick said. What's that no which center you would take? I ask you that question I went. Oh you gotta be kidding you doing this to me all right and then. Mark Jackson goes to Patrick Ewing. I asked him I said who would you take allies yuan or you and Patrick goes who did you say I said I'd take on. And he laughed and he thought it was the funniest thing goes. I probably would too. I probably would too. After that sees parted we stayed there for an hour and a half and just talked and he had a wonderful sense of humor. Had great stories and I told him all those times when I was at CNN and I we would cover the big east tournament. I go down to Georgetown. You can never interview Patrick. I always interview John Thompson. Told Him all about that. And ever since then he reaches occasionally asked me how. I'm doing healthwise in studio numerous times had him in San Antonio when we played outside Pauley Pauley close as I've seen you too cheers or or being emotional in all seriousness. Then known you long tongue. That's the most excited I've ever had been Dabbagh in-studio guests to my show. I fell in love with Pat Union. Georgetown when I was a youngster and to see him to show up on like I never thought that they would happen. There's certain athletes. We expect to have honor Adam Sandler. And but when Pat Ewing walked in and he was so super cool and told me stories and sent my shot into the river and it was really cool. Yay Paulie what's wrong with you? You know he was the guy I mean we all. We Love Georgetown growing up. I had a Georgetown Jack and he was the coolest what other poll questions. You have mclovin live. Nfl One. If you WANNA do I mean here's a question? Do the teams in the top ten for strength schedule. Have a better chance of easy schedules? Like do we expect the grounds to be good because one of these schedule. Well I expect them to be good no matter what their schedule is. The Bears Nick. Foles is going to be the starting quarterback. I think with Nick foles. You have a chance to be but I think they're over six and a half something like that so the bears are they a five hundred team. The chargers got an easy schedule. You know there's a big question mark quarterback with tyrod Taylor and does Justin. Herbert become that starter. Eventually the lions better be good. Because they're going to be jobs lost there. I think they did well in the draft. The steelers still not sure about them with Ben Coming back. Do you take Cam. Newton appear the steelers at conversation last night with the source. And I said. Hey that their backup. Quarterbacks aren't very good and he said all duck Devlin and Mason Rudolph I said Yeah. They're not scaring anybody. What if CAM went there? And he said well he would be an adjustment. I think for Cam and I said well. How would bend take this? Really? That's what it's all about. And he said you know. Ben Is probably playing this year. And that's it that that would be my guest. Ben's going to play one more year and then you have somebody coming in to replace him and he said you know the tricky part is when you leave. You don't necessarily want your team to be better when you leave because then it's like hey glad to get rid of Ben. We got camera here now. We got an even better team. He said with Ben and his EGO. It's always a little tricky. But if ben is playing at Ben's level and he's still got his arm strength. You know it's not like he's got mobility but he has his arm strength then they'll be fine he goes. I thought that they were going to go after hurts or they would try to get Teddy Britain. There are other players that I thought they were going to bring in and I said well would you bring in Cam Newton if you were the steelers and he said yes. I would because I can't trust bend to be healthy the entire season he's a guy who takes hits and you gotTa have a backup here and I said well he said I can probably get signed after training camp and maybe if somebody gets injured that's probably because he wants to win is the starter and if he realizes nobody's GonNa Take Him. Would he take the steelers opportunity if it was there so just? Intel also what I told you yesterday at the end of the show pertaining to college football. I'm going to bring that up again after the Patrick Ewing interview. Just so you get that information because it's it's important information. This is being discussed by the conferences behind the scenes. This is being discussed. The possibility will be for college. Football season and how the different conferences are going to be affected by this house scheduling is going to be affected by this out of conference. Games are going to be affected by this. So there's a lot there I had it at the end of the show but I'll bring it to your attention in about twenty minutes from now. We'll take a break the Great Patrick Ewing will join us and begrudgingly greatness of Michael Jordan..
"patrick ewing" Discussed on Courtside with Seth Greenberg
"If you're watching college. hoops you Well we pumped it pretty good. I would say over the course of the WIJK The Great Seth Greenberg two-time. ACC coach of the year and of course the coach whisper. When coaches have issues? The first number they call true story story is the Great Seth Greenberg and he either holds their hand or kick some right in the back side. Coach I'm GonNa Start with this coach. We got Patrick Ewing coming on the show. I did that like Georgetown. hoyas going into the week in the garden but I really liked the Georgetown Hoyas when I came out of the week in the garden including although although they lost to Duke your thoughts I like him I I like to go in and I thought they had an look. I got to have a backward and you gotTa have toughness and you know what they do whereas they have a backward way of toughness they also have athleticism and a big guy that can score around the basket and finish I. Georgetown is going to be a really good basketball team out. The look everyone wants to say is packing a bring back the George town of old than I think the pats do bill George Talbot in his own image. no-one no one played hotter than he did But I think they've got a little NBA flavor. The plane fast or playing good space may attack you. They've got good good player. James Kinjo good player Aggressive Attacks Mc lung fearless picket fearlessly bike athletic. I think they've got good depth. Pig toughness toughness I think you're serving. Your seven is an interesting piece. He's got static foul trouble. I think are a really good team. I think they're well coached. And I think I think they have an identity and as I'm watching early season basketball it's nice to see a team who knows exactly who they are and did not back down and I've been in that situation. Why should play against Duke where you're just trying to compete and and put yourself in a position to win the game and I've also been thrown out at Dukes? I understand that's frustration. But I think there were very good team. Sam I do to me man. Duke was impressive because they got down but they never got got nervous and I thought playing a bunch of freshmen and trae Jones. I thought they were very poised very good very duke like it is. We take coach K.. For granted I we wind we complain Blah Blah Blah. But I'll tell you this man that culture at Duke I thought. That's that's what won the game. Seth I did I sat there. They never flinched. When they were down they kept making plays? They kept trying to defend the kept whipping a ball around and post presence. Averni Kerry Junior. GimMe Him all the time. So the old school dude defensively now. I thought there are two things that were interesting when I say by that. I think they're up into the ball. I keep keep you on. The side they deflect passes up the line passes get out in transition. I thought too key players in that game that you know. We're GONNA talk about Vernon carrier area when he catches it on the block. He capacity can shoot comportment ball screens. You can talk about Trade Jones. It sounds crazy. Joey Baker came in when they couldn't score may two baskets allows big huge. That was big and then Jack White we forget. We talked about the freshman all the time and look Jack White Struggle Making shots but matthew hurt the bounds. The American play four minutes. Jack White brought toughness into that game for Duke so we the freshmen are good. But you know they're going to be complemented lamented by the leadership of Trade Jones. The toughness of Jack White maybe some shop baking on a given night in a specific situation of Joey Baker so they've got Legitimate Djinnit death and figuring out when to play whom I think is it was interesting. I thought coach K.. Would have been real easy. Say H Jack. You're playing really hard but you know Matthew Hurts Guy but no they they stuck with with white and I thought that was the best I've seen aboard. I thought was really good. He he has A. He's got a little stiffness to game to me but I thought he was really good. Defense is what they used to be. You know Ziad Williamson could dominate innate. You by jumping a boss free and knocked away. Pass some pure athleticism. I thought fundamentally their defense was better than it's than I've seen it a long while this weekend. Okay I agree I I do. I think Duke dukes better than I thought they were. In fact I love Wendell. Moi reminds me a almost did a t of Chris Carrawell. Yeah well I mean. Chris is on the bench for Duke. He was a terrific player out of Saint Louis and I watch when the more wild same almost exact guy I just. There was a big time environment. Seth it was the Guidon they was still. It was Georgetown Iraq fight for a little bit Pat Ewing on pack yacht. Hot and I liked him. He was about eight ten feet out on the corner. That was fun deal Florida says how about Florida we in the Florida Crosstrek two teams. I want to talk about fourth floor. Let's talk about Virginia question for you is alright. Virginia Casey more cell and Deke go thirteen for twenty twenty five. The rest of the team goes five. Twenty four those guys get thirty. Four of their forty eight points. Were Forty eight points and win again. They were down. They gave up nineteen point yesterday. Nineteen straight points to Arizona state yet had the poised to come back. They last eleven minutes they give up seven points having said all that offensively challenged alledged but the poised to come back play late in the clock continued execute. The you have concerns about Virginia because once again they didn't break fifty three of six games. They didn't break fifty cent. Braxton Qiaotou points two points I mean this is a guy that came out with Alabama and was was shooter. Yeah absolutely I mean look. Let's J. Half had a big game the other night. He comes back with five Clark with. They don't have what they had last year. But I'll say this. SF Here's the thing and you played against them for years and you know this better than I but forty minutes of scoring against Virginia. Virginia is very difficult. There's going to be a stretch now. The interesting thing for Virginia as we move forward is can they score during in that. Stretch when you're not scoring and we'll teams load up on the Akita you've said Craig me if I'm wrong but you said basically from the start of when we start talking college hoops a dea. ki-tae was a threat to be the defensive player of the year but also the ACC player of the year. I mean loading up on the AQUI. Take clocks a little guard. You keep them out of laying you. Keep him under control in pretty a good shape but Braxton key to me is a guy that's got to jump up and make some shots and huff can shoot the basketball. Those are two guys who got to be in double digits if they're going to win night after night in the ACC. That's what I think. Now is a ninety Rusia. Here's the case. Looks like he's more comfortable. He's going to be good player. Yes it leasing already awaiting made fedor like in the old days you play good scowl guy who played gets tight jerome. You play against the hunter and you're chasing guys off of those screens on the baseline and they curl may pocket passionate curl may hit the fade. Now those guys coming up those screens Braxton keeping one of them you don't you're doing your shortcut. Nothing going ball side. You take it away to curl your pocket pass the flare screen and you're not chasing it. You're going under ball screen action which is good and if you may she clocked baby a shooter guy can get downhill and you kind of push up and go under and keep them in front. I think they're going to be a work in progress. It's all season long. It was impressive. After Arizona State went on that run it was really impressive the poise they had to say. Wait a second second heart. Let's dig down. Let's get some stops. Let's try to Marcel. Made some shots. The Keita made a They never panicked. That's the thing that's impressive to me. They just continue to be who they are And they rely on the defense as well ahead their offense and the ad and they stay in their identity again. I'm GONNA use the word identity a lot because I think a lot of teams that don't have an identity they did. I am concerned offensively. You mentioned Florida are they fixed I don't know but I'll tell you this. I watch him play Miami and I watched them last night. They look a lot better to me than they did. A week ago. And blackshirts seems to be the key in the middle. They play through him a little bit. I don't know if they're fixed but they look damn good to me said they did. I mean I didn't know going into the game last night. Xavier of each team was going to get to sixty in fact you know what you got. All these four-star five-star whatever guys the over under number one hundred twenty. Three three people expected a very low scoring game. And I I thought Florida looked a thousand times better offensively they shared the ball. They got in a stance you know. It was very difficult than scruggs are scruggs for anybody to score for squawks. Yeah Yeah Yeah. He's a kid from here in India. who was a very good player? I I don't know if they're the six ranked team in the country. They won't be because of the early season struggles a little bit. But they look pretty. Damn good to me. Seth and black share look a lot more comfortable to me. And I'm going back to the Miami of Florida game as well. When they routed Larranaga's crew? They looked comfortable to me. Said says much more so than they have early. They're they're better when they're running sets in her half court I mean and then all of a sudden blackshirts getting touches at the elbows getting touches in the mid post. I thought changing defenses. They played one three one back to a man to man. I thought that I thought there have defenses. Is it's really really solid and Yeah I thought they were better Xavier to me watching this weekend. They're a little bit. They play faster than their abilities. I mean they got the two big is I said I think are really good. marshalling and Jones and scruggs is good. But you know I thought they turned it over. They were a little careless with the ball. Especially early they get sped up they play play really hard for try steal and extremely competitive and tough. They've gotta just shoot a little bit more consistently and just be a little. It'll better with the ball like the first half. They were like a wind up toy I mean they were playing like a hundred miles an hour and try to make stuff at it. Nothing instead of just all right advantage disadvantage. We don't everything going on. That's fine let's pull it out. Let's get it reverse. Let's get into some type of action Let's take the shot too many times teams. That are a spontaneous that radic in terms of in terms of their transition from transition to try to slow down and then dictate shot out and play with some patients purpose yards. Oh man just get better now right. I mean you're Pistons. The Great Pat Ewing Join US coach. How are you thanks for taking a few minutes with us? I'm doing what I'm doing. Well how you doing good morning. Ouch each that's his third travel of the night. Normally I get on his case.

"This is jeff goodman earlier this week in the podcast you heard me mention espn's double truck podcast focused on patrick ewing urine brings a wealth of experience though none of it is a head coach as he leads georgetown the program he put on the map with high hopes of restoring a hoyas to prominence the double chart podcast is where you can listen to end o'connor's article on you and check it out and a reminder to subscribe the campus conversation and also the doubled truck podcast on espn app apple podcast wherever you listen to podcasts the home to some of the best features investigations in character portrait's from across espn i mike philbrick your host of the double truck stories podcast patrick ewing has left his mark on many places his birthplace of jamaica his high school in cambridge massachusetts and the new york knicks but there is one place where all seven feet of ewing has stood the tallest and that's georgetown university this season ewing will put that legacy on the line as he returns to lead the hoyas in his first head coaching position ever to know where this newly minted head coach is going you really need to know where he's been no not just all the nba owners or college honors but worry was before the playgrounds of cambridge were as an immigrant from jamaica he humbled himself with relentless preparation route to learning the game with a windowless coaches rooms of the nba where he humble themselves for fifteen years with relentless tape sessions and scouting reports and route two learning how to better teach the game all these quite struggles of made him ready for the moment because patrick ewing isn't just come into coach georgetown patrick ewing's coming home.

"Grandparents and living rooms or is that kind of a means to an end of the success in at me they can you do hear from some coaches they do make the leap at that wears on you over time to the percentage ed coachman gundy pointed out when your head coach in the nba its neighbors and basketball in ten percent a bunch of other style right in an at times and some days i'm sure when the season's over the probably flips for college coach at ninety percent of the stuff in 10 percent i guess i hope the guys when the way ron rice in that's all you're doing yeah it's a i i don't know is the answer to your question i don't think patrick ewing nose really deep down honestly hill say publicly and he said it that i'm ready for that i'm ready for the nonstop grind of recruiting in dealing with au coaches summer coaches parents all that goes with it but until you live that as a head coach in college i don't think you know how you're going to respond to that that to me is the one real really sort of great unknown as far as patrick ewing's concern as a college coach because a lot of it is dealing with alarms dealing with again the of the summer au circuit constant travel in the offseason you're never off your your recruiting 247 round the clock year round and he's a worker i mean i talk to pat riley jeff and gundy steve clifford a lot of people who work with him the nba in patrick is one of those first one in last went out guys studying film constantly working on scouting reports working on gain plans so there's no question he'll put the hours in in the work but the actual recruiting part of it is does he have the ah he's charming enough he has a good personality people like him he's engaging but after two three four years of dealing with that constantly.

"In a georgetown basketball was sort of like the problem that noting football had for a while where there was a whole generation of kids coming through the prep line that didn't know what it meant i didn't know what the fighting irish part of the irish in a way that met in that posed a challenge is that something that you get the feel that may be is really hard from overcome or is it something that they may be just you know just a little bit of a little google search in these guys are all on board it's going to be something for him overcome for for sure and he's aware that but you know things like an espn thirty for thirty on on the big east than patrick ewing being at the center that to some degree any way it is helpful and so i know uh mac the clung these a guard from virginia originally committed to rutgers a highflying six six foot six foot one guard that patrick really wanted initially lost to rockers within the kid decommitted ultimately signed with rockers his father was telling me story about obviously he was blown away when patch a called his cell phone wow patrick ewing but he's age right 5050 three years old but he had to explain was stunned you realize how titanic a figure patrick was in college basketball of course his son didn't didn't know that but they sat down and they watch some uh might have been the thirty for thirty on on on the big east uh that he has been hadden and some other things too he educated his son sure but so patrick has the parents and grandparents and so that that's the bridge into the kid and he thinks that working the parents and grandparents in some cases will allow him to establish himself his presence in the game what he meant to the game and therefore make the cell to the player and make that connection so we'll see if that works or not but you're right there is a a gap there this generation gap that he's going to have to find a way to bridge that divide now in your in your piece patrick mentions how blown away he was by the way the john thompson was able to.

"By telling a story that is truthful the miami heat president loved ewing's grinder mentality when they were together in new york and now envisions patrick imposing his competitive will on the hoyas patrick riley says is as much of a man as everyone is going to meet i know if i was a high school player and i was really good i wanna go with somebody who was not going to kiss my ass who coached the hell out of me and made me better i guarantee i want to play for patrick ewing story joint thin studio by the writer you know connor the unwelcome mike good to be with you thank you um as i read the story i really got the ah i knew he struggled patrick ewing struggle to learn the game but they must be sort of master the game on many levels then he toil as an assistant for as long as he did do you feel does did you get the sense that patrick ewing felt that he here had earned a shot to coach in nba team and he didn't get one right do you think he felt that way oh yeah absolutely mike i think he felt he should have been head coach years ago frankly he's one of the fifty greatest nba players of all time he had been an assistant coach well ultimately for the better part of thirteen fourteen years in the nba had played four and worked under hall of fame coaches in really good coaches who who might someday be borderline hall of fame coaches throughout his entire career and so here's a guy who if you watch patrick play with the knicks in new york even though he was a center and one of the best centers of all time he really directed traffic he almost thought the gain and saw the game like a point.
