We Need Regulatory Clarity to Keep Crypto Exchanges Onshore...
"Today's featured stories and opinion piece from Jack soloway and Jennifer Schultz. Mister soloway is a policy analyst at kato's institute center for monetary and financial alternatives while miss Schultz is the director of financial regulation studies at the same institute. Our piece today is entitled, we need regulatory clarity to keep crypto exchanges onshore and DeFi permissionless. At consensus 2023, senator Cynthia lummis, a Republican from Wyoming, and congressman Patrick mchenry, a Republican from North Carolina, voiced their goals of developing legislation to clarify crypto market structure in the united states, with a house proposal expected in the next two months. Last week, in a joint hearing of the digital asset subcommittee of the House agriculture and House financial services committees, work proceeds to resolve what congressman French hill, a Republican from Arizona, has referred to as an impossible situation where the same firms are subject to competing enforcement actions by the Securities and Exchange Commission, or SEC, and the commodity futures trading commission or CFTC, which is in their words, pushing entrepreneurs, developers, and job creators offshore. This is an impossible situation, and it's manifestly unwise for the U.S. to show the door to those working on what may be the next generation of global financial infrastructure. Congress must bring regulatory clarity to crypto market structure, defining the bounds and appropriate legal treatment of crypto securities, crypto commodities, and the exchanges, both centralized and decentralized over which they trade. Notwithstanding the skepticism and evasions of SEC chair Gary gensler, crypto's core innovation decentralization is the proper criterion by which to rationalize digital asset market structure and determine whether applying traditional financial regulations to crypto tokens in exchanges make sense. The phrase, same activity, same risk, same regulation, is oft repeated by financial regulators. But as applied to crypto, it raises the question, are the risks the same. Specifically, do crypto projects present the risks that issuers in the primary market or intermediaries in the secondary market can exploit their position to harm token purchasers by, for example, abusing non public information, misleading market participants, breaking promises, or otherwise engaging in fraud.

Patrick Mahomes' brother Jackson charged with sexual battery
"Jackson mahomes, the brother of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was booked into jail Wednesday on aggravated sexual battery charges over an alleged altercation at a Kansas restaurant in late February, the 22 year old Jackson mahomes was charged Tuesday in Johnson county, Kansas, with three counts of aggravated sexual battery and one count of battery. He was being held on $100,000 bond. During a brief virtual court appearance Wednesday, the judge scheduled the next online hearing from May 11th under conditions of his bond, Jackson mahomes won't be allowed to discuss his case publicly

"Chris kreider scored two power play goals in the rangers, took a two games to none lead in their first round series by whipping the devil's 5 one. "According to reports, mama came up and said, look, y'all got a gun y'all gotta leave. Then the shooting started. They started shooting and killing. Young people. I'm not really trying to be aggressive against Patrick Mahomes, I think he's probably a great guy. But like the celebrity class of people have to compartmentalize these things, if I go look at the GoFundMe for the young kid that got shot in the front yard at that white man house, he probably will over 4 million right now, raised. But then when you go and look at these young people that lost their lives and their families are devastated forever, one of the young girls, her brother, her brother died in her arms. Word 8, where's their GoFundMe? Where's the support for them? Why are we not supporting them? As a nation, why is this not getting the coverage that the Tennessee shooting got? No, I know why. Congress Grills Gensler on Anti-Crypto Stance
"Yesterday was for so many of us, akin to the Super Bowl of crypto regulatory action. It was the long awaited verbal comeuppance for the industry's number one antagonist. Yes, yesterday SEC chair Gary gensler sat in front of the House financial services committee for a grueling four and a half hour oversight hearing. Now, gender last appeared before the House in 2021, although he did appear in the Senate for an oversight hearing in September of last year. Ahead of the hearing notable Republican committee members, including GOP whip Tom emmer, and representative Warren Davidson, expressed deep misgivings about how gensler has been running the regulatory agency and foreshadowed a tough interrogation. The hearing covered a broad range of regulatory changes that have been introduced during gensler's tenure. This includes climate change disclosure requirements, proxy share ownership and major market structure reforms, all of which were seen as regulatory overreach by House Republicans. Since gensler came into office, he has used the agency's rulemaking power at an unprecedented level, introducing 53 new rules in the two years he's been in office. That's more than twice the amount introduced under each of the two previous SEC chairs. Of course, it seems odd, given that one of the key issues the crypto industry has with the SEC is ignoring proper process by avoiding the rulemaking procedure when making changes. But in broader financial markets, gensler is viewed as being far too prolific in changing the rules. He's seen as often speeding through the public comment process and increasing compliance costs for public companies with these plethora of new rules. Now, despite all of those issues being raised, the focus was undeniably on the SEC's recent rampage through the crypto industry. Republican committee chairman Patrick mchenry got right to the point in his opening comments. Which criticized the SEC's approach to regulating digital assets. But Henry said, under your leadership, the SEC has brought nearly 50 separate enforcement actions against digital asset firms. At the same time, you have refused to provide clarity on whether digital assets as part of an investment contract are subject to securities laws, and more importantly how these firms should comply with those laws.

"Talk about the weaknesses. Let's talk about the good stuff to begin with. Well, a lot of it is the details. I mean, you've got, first of all, who walks in at the beginning of the film. It's captain Picard. And it's Al and it's Al from quantum leap who turns out to be the traitor in the film spoiler alert. Yes. And I'm just sitting there, I'm going, okay, these are already childhood favorites of mine. And Patrick Stewart. Dean Stockwell, an amazing cast. There are some really stand out actors. I actually think that the lead was quite well cast. I think he was quite well cast. And the chick that was in you'll know her name. The chick that was in Blade Runner. Yeah, from Blade Runner. Absolutely beautiful. And even his mother absolutely stunning woman and did a really good job and they did really, really well. Like some of the actors did really well in this film. And even the actors that I think I didn't like because they were too theatrical. I think they were actually fine because I think that's maybe what the director wanted, but it's not what I want to see in a sci-fi film. Talking about theatrical just for a second column, the lead Paul atreides. He had just graduated, theater school. He was in a play in Seattle. He never been to LA, never been to allay as an actor. And this was the first time he'd ever done anything for TV or movies. Not too bad. Yeah, and he was well, I mean, he has that fresh face. He has that look of optimism that sort of Luke Skywalker esque character. And yeah, I think he was well cast. Again, I just think it was a little too theatrical, but you know, there are things like if I compare the main villain, the primary villain. The baron, the baron, the baron, harkonnen. If I compare him to Darth Vader, Darth Vader is one of the most iconic villains in the history of cinema. Darth Vader looks cool. Okay, Darth Vader looks cool. Harkonnen is revolting.

West Virginia AG Patrick Morrisey Is Fighting to Protect Girls' Sports
"We now have the attorney general of West Virginia, mister Morrissey with us who to discuss the Supreme Court recent decision. It's just hard to even grasp. Mister Morrissey, welcome back to the program. I know you might have some big announcements soon. That's not why you're here though. Tell us about the Supreme Court's decision. It's really something. Yeah, it's pretty interesting. So Charlie, first of all, thank you for having me back on. I know a couple of weeks ago we talked about this very basic concept that biologically men are different than women. And the West Virginia legislature, I think in a smart move, drafted a law, I think it was constitutional, was permissible, and they said that biological males should not participate in women's sports. We went through an entire process where the district court first slapped an injunction against the law, but Charlie went to work with submitted all these documents. We have an evidentiary record second to none. And we won. We wanted the district court level. Then we went to the Court of Appeals, the fourth circuit. They reversed. They said that there should be an injunction in place. So we thought, let's go to the U.S. Supreme Court. Let's take it to the high court. The U.S. Supreme Court though, unfortunately, in a procedural setback last week, not going to lift the injunction. So there's obviously an injunction now against the West Virginia law. I think that defies common sense and basic fairness, but I will say this to you, Charlie. This was a decision on a procedural ground. I think we're going to win on the merits. I'm going to keep fighting.

And I did what any red blooded Texan does. He goes to the school administration office and he drops an English class to sign up for whatever they're teaching that building. And that's true story. And in the building was the theater department. And so I fell in love with acting. And I wrote a piece of children's theater and I decided, after school, I was going to drive out to LA and I was going to try and produce that play. And then an agent could I submit you on some commercials? And I said, yeah, if it supplements my writing career, then I got a handful of those and she goes, let me submit some theatrical, which means TV and movie. And I said, absolutely, if it supplements my writing group. Next thing I know I was on a plane to go do young Indiana Jones and the acting kind of took over.

"Corey Connors has won two PGA events and both have come at the Valero Texas open over the last 5 years. He closed with a 468 for a one stroke win over rookie Sam Stevens. He began the final round one shot behind leader Patrick Rogers, but had a three shot edge following a birdie on 15. Connors won it with a par putt after Rogers missed a 9 footer for birdie. "Steve paddle zolo, our good buddy, pro football focus, senior analyst co host of pro football focus NFL podcast, good to see you again. Have you guys chopped up the Super Bowl and given out grades? Yeah, we have. Yeah, we do it live pretty much and then review it the next day. So we get the grades out there and the quarterbacks were as good as I think they looked, right? Jalen hurts and Patrick Mahomes, two of the best players on the field and the grades reflected that. Okay, who had a higher grade between those two? We had hertz with a slight edge in his overall grade. Obviously, he had the worst play with the fumble, but in mahomes didn't really make a ton of mistakes, but hertz had had more special plays, right? Some of those downfield throws, and some of his best throws were incomplete. The devonta Smith passed down the field that gets dropped, or it just ends up being complete after the review. Some nice tight window, double coverage throughout tight window throws to Dallas Goddard, another one on third down after avoiding the blitz, so Jalen hurts was awesome in that game. And I think we're going to forget it, though, because the chiefs won. But it could lead to a big contract extension because I don't know if people had questions. Do you have questions now after what you saw with Jalen hurts? If you were with the eagles, and you were going to be handing out that check to him. Would you have any issue? Giving him $45 million a year. Maybe 45, it's going to be fascinating. I would say the eagles did such a good job building their team this past off season because Jalen hurts was on that first contract. It allowed them to go get AJ Brown. It allows them to bring in a James Bradbury. They're going to lose a bunch of free agency this year. And it's going to be difficult to replace those guys because Jalen hurts is due the next big contract. So I

"Joining us on behalf of NBC sports Sunday Night football sports medicine analyst. He was on the sidelines at arrowhead when Patrick Mahomes got injured and he was behind the bench. He was working with Melissa stark and he has been in the medical training community athletic training experience for more than 30 years. Is that fair to assess what you've done, Mike? Well said, Dan. Almost almost. Okay. Playing with that kind of injury in the moment, as opposed to a week later for Patrick Mahomes. Well, it's easy firsthand because obviously it's a difficult danger. This is a high ankle sprain, not a lot of ankle sprain, but he's all fired up, you know, he's the ultimate competitor. They taped his ankle, got the confirmation that the x-rays are negative. So in the moment, is easy to deal with easier. I should say a week later as a whole different situation, pain sets in the realization of what you can do. I think this weekend is going to be a tougher task that what we saw him in the second half last Saturday. Okay, what do you think now he was running on it a little bit or stretching yesterday, which isn't a true indication. I don't think of anything there, but can this get better or does this get worse as we get closer to game time? Well, with a high ankle sprain because it's a rotational issue. When you rotate and you spread the bones of the lower shin, that's the sprain. That's a high ankle sprain. Well, the running straight ahead is easy part. The problem is when you're twisting, you see them twisting off that leg. Anytime you see Dan that foot rotate outwards when he's throwing hard when he's cutting to his left side coming off that right ankle, that's a difficult challenge. So watching him walk off the podium, watching him run straight in the football field with no Bengals chasing him as a much different task and obviously a lot easier than when he has to change direction and really be an agile quarterback which he is. When you get shot up, explain that what exactly happens or what happened do you think to mahomes when he suffered the injury? Well, I don't think he was shot up.

"Poll question here. Give the poll question two more cells. I'm most concerned about Patrick mahomes ankle Joe burrows cockiness. Jalen hurts shoulder or Brock purdy's inexperience. That's number one. Because that's tangible. That's actually physical. You think about Joe burrow and his confidence or as cockiness, I think that actually leads to charge for these Bengals. When they find himself in dire situations, they lean on Joe burrow and his impossible mentality of I can conquer all. You talk about the shoulder injury we had with Jalen hurts. He's been through that before. I think he's learned how to recover from that. Brock purdy's in the interest in place. He's in a place where he doesn't know the magnitude of the moment as much as everyone is advertising it to him. So in those moments before you get to really recalibrate before you have the off season to exhale before defense has happened off season to game plan against you. You're still just gonna ride that wave, but Patrick Mahomes is coming into this game compromised mentally and physically. He knows he's not gonna be in the same situation. He was last week with the adrenaline flowing, the needle poking into the echo to give him that great medicine. All of that's going to change from mahomes. I also wonder because so much of the game is reactionary that now he's got to think when he is maybe going to have to escape the pocket. He might have to almost recalibrate in the moment to say I can't, I can't do that or I shouldn't do that. Athletes normally don't play that way. Yeah, the best athlete is mindless. The glow, the zone where you're not thinking through it. It's all instinct. And when you're compromised and you're going through the work week, the toughest part is you're always gonna give yourself a physical exam. So you get out of bed, you put your ankle down, oh, that doesn't feel good. Okay, you go to the kitchen, you're like, all right, Britney, let me go, let me try and go to the table. All that doesn't feel good. You go to practice, you're not practicing. And now you're starting to get out of sync with your normal rhythm. And then you get on the game field, even after the injections, even after you get all the medicine and your hyped into crowd, you're still thinking about your ankle every single step. So that's a different athlete. That's a slower athlete. A guy who's not in the zone. So Patrick Mahomes certainly will be compromised. The game plan will have to be edited. All things will change just because of that ankle. And this is a Bengals defense that a lot of people haven't spotlighted. But you've already contained Josh Allen, so you've contained a running quarterback or a quarterback who can run. How do they approach Patrick mohm? But not everybody was going to be Kurt Warner or those wide receivers or have a Marshall falcon there. But that didn't stop teams from wanting to be the greatest show on turf. Go back to the Tampa two defense. Everybody copied that, took it from the Buccaneers, Bill Walsh, the West Coast offense, people took that and ran with it or passed with it. You had the two tight end situation with the Patriots. You had Gronk, of course, standing out and become a Hall of Famer with Tom Brady. Aaron Hernandez, while he was still there, and I know that you look at a quarterback and you want to have a great tight end, like Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. And you can say, well, this is, let's try to emulate that. Well, first of all, you can't emulate mahomes, and you can't emulate Travis Kelce. This doesn't strike me as a copycat league. Let's try to be what they are because those are two first ballot Hall of Famers. And you're looking at Travis Kelce. And it's sometimes you forget how great he is. And as Chris collinsworth pointed out last night, he's a great receiver. Not just great tight end. He's a great receiver. Once he gets the ball, he's going to score. And he's done that so far this year. Having a career year in his 33 right now, I don't know where he ranks because when we talk about tight ends, the position has changed. I go back to Kellen Winslow as the first real athletic tight end. John Mackey was very athletic. You had Mike Ditka. Todd Christensen was a really good receiving tight end for the Raiders.

Oh, he's gonna be, you know, here's Tom Brady voted the number one player by players in the NFL to start this season. Yes, he. But isn't it sort of like, I don't know if we've moved on from Patrick mahomes or has he just hit that level of star quality and greatness where it's like Michael Jordan didn't win MVP every year because he's Michael Jordan. There are analysts pundits who think that they could not make the playoffs. They had preseason predictions that the chiefs would make the playoffs. They would finish last, and the division I went, wow. Can't say he's still good. It's aggressive. Yeah, it is. It's an aggressive take. Yeah. But sometimes I wonder when you give your take. Would you bet on this? If I ask analyst, okay, you think Stephen a Smith says Kyrie Irving is going to be an MVP candidate. I don't know what that means. There's probably 20 MVP candidates, I guess. But will he finish in the top 5 in voting? Would you bet on that? That's what I want to know. Because sometimes with the hot takes, it's hey, can I get some attention here, please? Hey, I'm over here. Did you hear what I said? Kansas City going to finish last, not make the playoffs? Okay. How about a pie to the face? How about we do pie to the face for all of these predictions on all of these networks with all of these analysts? Is it going to be on Nickelodeon? Oh, we could do that. It feels like that's the pie to the face network. Yes. We should call the people a DraftKings and see if it would even be legal. Could you bet on takes? After I listen to that, you know how people are some people who are always defensive and even if you compliment them, you think it's like a slight like Patrick Beverly when he heard that you're playing with LeBron James and he probably thought I was like, wow, wow, I didn't win a contest here. Make a wish. I'm a good player. I've been in the playoffs 8 of the past ten years. I bet that's how he seemed to respond like, hey, calm down here. I didn't win a contest. "So finally, I get up there and I did not jump on this bridge that a couple of 12 year olds were 13 year olds were jumping off this bridge, but I did it, but that was like, that's like the limit. I don't know. I watch your video, Jason. And I think that looks fun. How close are those sides of the kind of gorge? Because it feels like if you jump in the wrong direction, you're going to hit a Little Rock. Well, actually, the tricky part is and they do a little training session before they do it. You're supposed to jump out so that the bungee when it kicks back doesn't kick you under the bridge, so you smash your head, right? So you have to jump out so that there's an angle to go under the ball. So you can possibly bungee snap and get knocked out. Yeah, now there's now there's two possible. There's two possible ways in which you can die. Yeah. Once you get to the second way you could die, I'm good. I was good before. Now I'm really numb, I'm good. I'm definitely set. The first person that said, hey, I'm gonna make this bungee that strong enough for people to jump off and the first person to do like, wow, what was bungie was originally originally designed though for repelling, right? So I guess I guess somebody who's repelling at some point was like, hey, we can actually do this where you could jump off of things. Just think of the trial and error it took. I think it was too long. Too much slack. But think about this, guys. California has a lot of restrictions and insurance. And liability laws, right? So you're strapped around your waist on this one. Nothing's gonna happen to you. If you go to like South Africa, you just said if you don't, you just said if you don't jump out, you could. There are a couple of things that you're ahead in the bridge. I'm just saying that I want to go to a place where there's no liability. Like a South Africa or something where you could go by the ankles, and you can go twice as far. You could dive twice as far. Because you would want to do something. We just said, we just talked about a tower in India. You want deeper. Longer, yeah. It's a drug for you, basically. Pretty much. Pump that sucker into my brain. I need some sort of adrenaline, even if it kills me. Bring it. Okay, well, now we understand how you value your life. No, I mean, that's one of the things with once you retire from your professional sport, all the things that you had to do for a long time. You're like, I no longer had to do my college teammate saint Bryant naughty. And we made a pact what the last time we were driving to do conditioning in college, local mistake, and we just have to do 6 in the morning out on the track. And we're like, hey man, we are never, ever, ever going to a track ever again, unless somebody's going to pay me to run for sure. I can't remember the last time I ran on a check. And I will say this because of my children. I get like, we start school next week. So I'll be getting up our ladies. It's people working a school district. They decide school is now going to start an hour early. 7 30. I'm like, these people, how do they get jobs that they have to start kids at 7 30 and get them out at one 30? I thought parents were still at work at one 30. How do they navigate through that? But I'll be getting up early every day now starting next week. So there's school search at 7 30 in the morning. 7 30 in the morning, a bunch of idiots in a school district. Well, they got a lot of other things too that Dan Patrick show Fox portrayed. We're going to gripe about schools. Then high schools, they have the block scheduling. They're never in school.

And I stand by it because speaking to my source on this, he said, you weren't wrong, we didn't get it done. He said, but we wanted to move it up to 2023. We couldn't get it done. Yes. What was the NFL story? There's like an NFL playoff story or something. Everybody hung on you the one time Patrick said they're adding a game to the playoffs or something like that. Yeah. What was that? I was coming back from Denver on a red eye. And I'm sitting next to a guy who worked with the NFL. And he said, ask me any questions that you want. And I didn't even offer up playoff expansion. He did. He said, you know, we're going to add another playoff team in each conference. I said, well, when? He goes, well, I think we're looking at next season. Come back and I go, I said, I got this great source. You know, they're going to they're going to be adding playoff playoff teams. Yeah, pulley. That goes back to I have this as January 6th, 2014. And I'm surprised it wasn't in freezing cold taste. It was guess who tweeted out what you said during our show. Mclovin per last tweeted out Dan Patrick says he's been told that the NFL will add a wild card team in both conferences. Within 24 hours, Roger Goodell poopoo. I think that he was going to do it and then realize that I had said it and then he goes, no, no, we can't do that. Dan Patrick said this. Roger. Let's ride. If I would have said to roger, here's who told me, Ron. Then, you know, I'd love to have heard his response.
