How to Communicate Effectively to Your Team with Patrick Lencioni

"Let's start out with our conversation with pat lynch tony. I got to talk with him about the importance of communication and why it doesn't happen the way we wanted to. Sometimes as dave ramsey says the biggest problem with communication is that we're under the illusion that it's actually occurred we tend to use ourselves as a baseline while i understood what i was saying. And if it's a latte. I think at the end of the day. It's a lack of empathy for like. What does that person see or hear. And how is that different from me. So we we often commit called the fundamental attribution error. And that's we assume that other people are like we are and if they're doing something wrong it's because they have a flaw but if we're doing something wrong it's because our environment is causing it. So i think the more that we can follow the advice of saint francis of assisi and understand others before we understand ourselves the less likely. We're going to have that communication problem you know. Oftentimes in business were moving fast. And there's a lot of work to be done. And so if i'm a business owner and i hear okay i need to have more empathy. I need a slowdown and understand them. More even if i want to do that pat. I don't have time. We gotta make stuff happen. We gotta move. They needed to get on board and figure it out. I'm not here to babysit these people. They have a job paying a lot of money. They should do their job. Yeah that's bad economics and bad mass because the idea. We have to slow down in order to go fast. I i like that because it's not down in order to slow down it slowdown in order to go fast. And when we slow down and make sure we're understood and we make sure we understand where somebody else's coming from we get more done faster when we're just going fast all the time we're constantly going back and having to clean up explain ourselves and it's like racecar driver hugo into that turn and you're like i'm gonna cut time off during this turn you're going to spin out you're gonna end up slowing down going out of the straight the people that know how to slow down going into the turn. Come out of it going gangbusters and so we have to recognize that. We think we're going fast or causing ourselves a lot more problem by having to go back and clean up everything afterward

"An NYPD cop shot in Brooklyn while responding to a domestic violence situation. He was saved. His bulletproof vest. And just last night reports of two people shot dead, three wounded in four shootings in Brooklyn and the Bronx gun violence is up 103% so far this year compared This time last year, PBA President Pat Lynch says all of this happening because of anti police rhetoric, bail reform and, of course, the funding the police box ization Hosni in New York City, Pope Francis apparently doubling down on a possible controversial change for the Catholic Church boxes, Paul Stevens reports. "Reelected where his team Giuliani already knew from the vote tallies from the old gray iron lever machines that have been passed on to the local precinct set. In fact. Rudy Giuliani was the brand new mayor, and he set out giving New York City of badly needed colony because crime was the issue that got him elected on a law and order platform, And immediately he put into effect all of the measures that got instant results. The broken Windows theory was put into effect. The quality of life initiatives will put into effect in every precinct in the city. Now they weren't new cops. They was still the holdover cops from the Dinkins in Kochi administrations. But they were given a new life. They were told by the incoming mayor Rudy Giuliani, that hey, if you go out there and you restore law and order to the streets, we got your back as long as you followed all the rules and regulations. Now, if you're a cowboy cop, and you go out there and take the one to your own hands, you're on your own. And a lot of cops reacted to that. And quite quickly, the city began to become crime free, although it took a while, and it was the use of stop and frisk, although on Lee for the purposes of probable cause, stop question and frisk had about 150,000 stop questions and frisk a year. By the time Bloomberg got through with it. Was 700,000 Stop and frisk, in which it appeared that every black and Hispanic male had been stopped and frisked by the NYPD. When you look at the populations, and by the way, Pat Lynch, who was head of the P B, a then head of the P B A now was telling Bloomberg stop. You're imposing quotas on the men and women of the police Department. You can't do that with stop and frisk. Bloomberg continued to do that, and obviously was considered a constitutional violation of one's rights by Judge Shira Xin Lin in federal court, and, quite frankly, She was absolutely correct at that point. Well, let's look at this city. Now. Let's give you an update of fear. City USA, New York City as we approach 2021 Let me go to the crime. Blood him Yesterday you saw that a crazed man 23 years old while standing on the platform at the West Fourth Street station in Greenwich Village, pushed a woman into an oncoming F change. He was waiting to catch the F train going into Brooklyn. This was the fourth pushing case within a month. The emotionally disturbed persons are everywhere. The 23 year old got clipped, and I'm sure we're gonna find out that he has a history of mental health issues. They shouldn't be in the subway say shouldn't be in the streets. They shouldn't be in the parts of New York City, but they are thousands of them by one estimate, a total and 90,000 emotionally disturbed persons. Who had been read released from psychiatric facilities into the streets of the five boroughs of the city of New York, 90,000. When Andrew Evil eyes Cuomo was first elected governor. There were 30,000 psychiatric beds in state system. There are now only 3000. Local municipal hospitals have been closing their psychiatric wings under the premise of Corona virus, and instead of finding another place to give them medical help.

"It's turning on 77 w A. B, c and w abc radio dot com 46. Mostly cloudy skies. I'm Deborah Valentine, Make sure a Long Island man charged with first degree manslaughter in the death of his mother. Suffolk County Police say they received a 911 call from Logan Lawson stating he'd killed his mother. Authorities found the body of 70 year old Barbara Lawson, inside their east Main Street apartment, the manner of death and a motive not yet released. Lawson is scheduled for arraignment later today to NYPD officers shot in stable condition this morning. The gunmen, a domestic violence suspect is dead. The officers were bringing a domestic violence victim back to her 179th Street residents in Brooklyn to collect her belongings. When 41 year old rebel God knee returned and opened fire on police. PBS President Pat Lynch says this incident underscores the need for law enforcement would happen if the police officers weren't there. What would happen if we didn't have enough of them to cover all the radio runs? What would happen if a social worker was there? And the police officer was in goddamn college Security guard for the City University of New York had four prior domestic violence complaints against him. Judge ordered God knees, weapons returned to him in September, a deadly multi vehicle crash about 1 15 this morning happened in those 600 block of Grand Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Investigators remain on scene and body cameras Now the law of the land in New Jersey Governor Murphy signing that legislation yesterday during a virtual event, state senators, surely Turner and seduces a major step.

"Letting everybody know that shot is part of Ah, back. The blue campaign launched yesterday, right outside of our studios. He our new studios on the Upper East Side provided to us by our new owner and operator. John Catch McTavish of Red Apple media fact, All of you can go to the new website that Egemen put up back to the blue n y c dot com I don't know of anyone else in the media that it's launched a campaign like this with the cops under siege, not just here, but all through the United States. And maybe not on this day because it's so miserable out there with the rain and obviously it's cold and it's damp. But yesterday, John catch McTavish and PBA President Pat Lynch tied the first blue ribbon around the tree downstairs or it could be a telephone pole or utility pole. That shows you know that you should be supporting the men and women of your police department because not everyone is in a big municipal city like we spoke to James Shay, brother of German Shay, Police commissioner of New York City, but he's the public safety director of Jersey City. That's a big city. A lot of towns and villages and burrows with their own police departments that county sheriff's a state police. You know, there's so many different public safety agency said, or police. It is really supporting all of them in their time of need, and we mentioned PBA President Pat Lynch. Yes, A When he was talking. I was psyching Flashback mode had a nice conversation with him beforehand And we reminisce where we first met, which was at the 90th precinct in Williamsburg. This is before the hipsters, a millennial smoke 10. Third and Roebling have admire these were getting infested areas. She unknown bikers of bikers that Duke's rough and right next to it was the Lindsay Housing Development, which is like a co op. So Eric Gonzalez. I met him there. He's the D A in Brooklyn. Totally different guy then because now it's like he can't. He can't arrest Ah, enough gun people, So the feds are coming in to arrest all the guys carrying guns in Brooklyn. But I was reminiscing with Pat Lynch, and we're talking about how did control Williamsburg was when he was walking a beat before it became PBA president. And now how people have no idea who lived there. I mean, thousands. Tens of thousands of hipsters and millennials moved in there. And you know you have all those shops and restaurants and trendy locations and head shops. And when you talk to the hips dismally knows, And you know, I was sighted man, important outbuildings, their gang wars here. You know the Orthodox and I seen it. 11 side. Bedford Avenue is still there. But the rest of the area has changed measurably. And absolutely no idea. Yeah, And it's funny because you had mentioned that you see when you've seen some of these protests where they are being so Just awful about the police that you see a lot of these young hip story faces walking through the crowd. I think it's one of our earlier guests made a really good point that it got to a point because it was such a hot topic, and it was such a A lightning rod topic that people I think we're afraid to stand up for the police, which is terrible, because that's what they too, for us every single day, But the guests said it's he started to see a shift. Now I think people are starting to settle down and realize, okay, wait a second. This got really out of hand. It was a few really allowed people that started making it seem like it was everybody believed that pointed this out before. What are what a roller coaster ride for the police. Here it is. The pandemic hits locked down. Seven o'clock tonight. Pots and pans. People stopping what they're doing. Applauding all first responders, including the police, fire, e M T nurses, doctors orderly Geno, You couldn't clap enough. You were getting chapped hands from the clapping in the watching of your hands all the time. Then all of a sudden Mr Floyd gets killed in shouts Minneapolis by the police. And we'll have changes. I actually saw. You know how they had some posters where the police were with the firefighters, The nurses and the doctors see empties first responder and all of a sudden it's like they somehow extricated the cops off of those posters where they remove them, or they, you know, took aerosol spray cans and like sprayed amount. He went from heroes to zero. Yeah, Think about it. I mean, prior to 9 11. There were these types of incidents. It's not like they've gotten worse. It's just that they've actually been because of our cell phone cameras. We see them more now on social media. But you know, it's it's like nothing changed. I mean, after 9 11 they were they were gods, and that's the hypocrisy of this country is that you know people get so caught up in swells and and they get so caught up in in movements that they kind of forget reality, and they get worried that they're going to be cancelled if they say anything supportive or or not supported. Well, In fact, this Patty Lynch PBA president was downstairs yesterday. Helping to inaugurate with our owner operated John Katzman. TD's are back the blue.

"If you're looking at the investment in partnerships with other Social service providers just look at the wonderful work. That people like chief Cory on Staten Island is doing building partnerships each and every day. Some of those partnerships beat by the way being built with the very people who Nicole Malia Takis is criticizing in her at the Republican Party is criticizing in their ads with the amazing work that chief Maja is doing. I was working with his officers. When can it could get the power back on to get generators to people's homes whose lives were on the line? In so many ways. What we have been trying to do in Congress, with things like the Justice in Policing Act is to brand the standards and the quality of policing around the country up to the level and the standards of the NYPD beat. It is for that reason that I believe that our officers in the NYPD should be paid more. So that's a recognition of what they're doing just to close this loop. Ultimately, you agree with her on this no implicit bias in the NYPD. No, that again. You're simplifying and caricaturing this conversation. There is no public institution in America. That is perfect. There's no public institution in America. That does not deal with continuing realities of bias. By the way, as I said, you have to deal with that I have to do with it. Journalists have to do with that elected officials have to deal with that. What I take umbrage with what I am trying to push back upon is this notion that we are singling out the NYPD as an entity that is inherently evil or an entity that should be abolished or defunded? As a means of addressing the current realities and legacies of racial injustice off which I am more than ready and willing to have a conversation about how we address You mentioned the union. The Assembly woman is proud of getting the endorsement of the Police Benevolent Association. She brought it up right at the beginning yesterday. BBA is controversial because of the tone and language of its president, Pat Lynch, among other things, would you want the PBS endorsement this year if they offered it to you? Look under no circumstances Are they offering it? I am a huge, huge fan. Of our police officers. Certainly if the PBA wanted to publicly endorsement, the conversation, I'd be more than willing tohave with him. Are you a fan of their leadership? Pat Lynch. Look, I'm not going to get this is in high school, my friend. I'm not going to get into publicly talking about whether or not I like Pat Lynch, and that's what I am in a state. Does that Look I have visited The roll calls for the police precinct in my district and each and every time I see officers lined up. Many of whom represents the beautiful cultural mosaic that is New York City. Many of whom, as I've said, are not sure if they're going home that night and are willing to give their lives for this city and this country. I respect him. I honor him, and all I am seeking to do in my career in public service is to try to be there for them. Just as I am trying to be there for the community. So you know we can talk politics all you want. We can talk endorsements all you want. I got nothing nothing to say against, um or their union members with them, and we'll see how this how this happens. We'll see how the cookie crumbles, my friend. Um Being Assemblyman Assemblywoman also brought up bail reform. In the original clip that we played, whom she said she is against bail. Reform your for it, And she was critical of you for that. How would you describe your position? Yes, By the way, it is fascinating that as the assembly woman Seeks to run for a federal position all she can talk about our state and local issues, but I won't dodge the question. Look in a world where Young, many women are in jail for hundreds of days. Tens of days..

"If you Albany which rejected us? Yes, we don't need you here. Shootings up 240% in the south and an Arba hill. Are you having more people wanting to join the Guardian Angels? Are you? Yeah, well, because with so many problems They called the police and not getting a response. They call their local elected officials. They hear excuses I quote soldiers gave, but I'm saying people joining the garden because they're saying we've got no, Troy and I'm telling you, we're on our own. You know, we have our way of doing it. But she is unique and I'm sure there are other ways to deal with it. But you got to do something because it's just continuing to go up and up. Infact you notice you know, it's really bad. When somebody gets shot either killed or seriously injured the day before. The community, then memorializes that person. You know, wherever the shooting took place and put the candles ah, the relatives who come out saying nice things about the person friends. And then those people get shot while they're memorializing the victim from the day before that happened again in Prospect Park, 46 year old man came to light some candles that had been laid out. The community was coming to pay their respects to Ah younger man who had been killed the day before. And somebody walked up and just blew his brains out. Oh, my God. Did they know the guy? I mean, Was this some sort of thief? Not sure there were They just saying I mean, we're going to shoot you because you're supporting some guy that we might be it. Yeah, maybe. But she now one when the cops finally get their everybody says snitches, get stitches and end up in ditches because they figure nothing's goingto happen. Nobody's going to get arrested. You know, let's face it. Let's say you wanted to help the cops. You know, this guy's not even going to be, you know, remanded to jail on Rikers stay. He's going to be cut loose, and he's going to come. Look for me. Him and his French. And then where are the cops gonna be protected me? So it's an endless cycle now, right? I mean, you can't even get And this is no disrespect to the cops because we're very supportive of the police here at W A. B C, but you can't even get them to break up. A girl fight with young teenage girls because there is just there's so much danger and they're so confused as to what they're allowed to D'oh. Why would they I mean, why would they put themselves in harm's way, thinking that if they do risk their lives, they're only going to get screwed over later by their own bus. That's why you saw the PBA of Pat Lynch, who are most 10 times at odds with what he's been right about two things. Stop and frisk was overdone by Bloomberg and Kelly. He warned them, he said, You're turning the community against us with these quotas on stopping Frisch were like stopping every young black and Hispanic male and putting him up against the war. You're making us do that stop. And then remember when De Blasio and Cuomo wanted them intervening to make sure people wearing masks and socially distance. Remember Pat Lynch against you turning the community against this? This is not what we should be doing. And for the first time, a PBA union Endorse the Presidential Kennedy. Normally they stay out of it. Yeah, I think they should have stayed out of out of it. Frankly, I mean, I think it's very clear that you Ah, they're not happy with what's going on. I don't think supporting President Trump was the right move for them. Frankly, anyway, numbers 1 808 for a W A B. C. Let's go to Rich, Who's calling from Brooklyn? Welcome The Curtis and Jet set Juliet, which Hey, How you doing, Curtis? I caught the tail into Juliette. Uh, thinking about something happened down in North Carolina. Uh, some young kid that oh, the little boy, a little boy, Ah little boy that was shot when he drove his bike into his neighbor's yard. Yeah, But what? What was your end of it yet? You have a problem with faithful comrade. Ah, yeah, I was. I was going back and forth. I was getting attacked by strangers because I said I was defending the media. And the fact that it wasn't plastered all over every network and every cable network in the first few days, and I was trying to explain what the mentality is, when you have a story like that, why there might not have been a lot of a lot of coverage right off the bat, and I was immediately called bias and a liberal and And all these other things that you know, it's you know, I made the mistake of trying Tio, uh, trying to argue a very, very layered and complicated story on Facebook, which is just a really stupid thing to do. I don't know why I keep doing that. No there, there's so much you have to talk about. There's so many things to say, just for those who are not aware of that, because it was North Carolina. A young white boy, right right is shot by a black neighbor, right and there was a lot of ire from appeared to be from the right. Saying that this story took it was way too long before it was plastered all over the place. And I was saying, Well, wait a second that you're making it about race because the guy the shooter was black and the little boy was white. As far as we know, At this point there was this wasn't a racially motivated shooting. It was the even the family has said question that so I was talking about why, and you don't you get straightened that out on face? Well know exactly. I was saying, Here's what you gotta understand, Like collectively all around the country. Do you know how many producers and executive producers are out there at little stations, medium stations, big markets and networks. Who are all independently trying to make decisions as to what to cover. There's reasons that they don't cover something's immediately or they cover something, you know, they realize that this is becoming a bigger story. We're going to cover it, and that's you know, is trying to say that and it was immediately you're part of the problem.
