"You said when I finished Harry leaned over the counter with kind of a trace of hostility The Voice he says hey, you didn't tell me you were a preacher. What kind of church you belong to? You said I thought for a few moments in the right words came out. He said I belong to a church that throws birthday parties for prostitutes at 3:30 in the morning. That's who we are called to be where the church and for those people out there. We all have that thought in our mind of whatever that looks like does. We were one of them. We were enemy of God and he honored Us by Creedence incredible peace trust that he invites us to where the owner gets. He serves this Royal feast and says, okay now go serve others and bring to the table. I don't see stories are so powerful because both of Elijah and Pastor Tony you see a common theme there and off they made a choice. Elijah could have made a choice and God do this got killed him whatever and he didn't do that and something that I think about the Pastor Keith. He's been the same because like we don't have a Thursday we have surrender and then comes to my heart and God just speaking into me right now is do I want to sit at that table and spiritually eat and while other people are out lost dead and dying and going to hell do I want to lay down my life? And invite people because we don't know how that will impact their lives and I have eternity in my know that that moment can impact world where they will spend the rest of their life knowing that that often I mean significant, whatever maybe to someone can be so significant, you know that we lay our lives down and be like God I want to share this this experience. I met Jesus. I want to share that with the rest of the world. It's not I don't want to just be me, you know, and if it just imagine if we all as Believers have that mentality, I experienced something that I never have before and I met Jesus for the first time in my life. I need to tell everyone you know, how many of us we have family members that might not know Jesus. You know and friends of ours do we love them enough to let them know about Jesus one and all this talking remind me of the phrase kill em with kindness but what Jesus and it's taking a step further. It's not just the kindness It's like the love of God needs to pour out of us into them because we can be kind for a moment. But like that requires them to what Jonathan said lay down our life laid down our insecurities laid down our hardness toward the people that have heard us the the now the words not coming to me off the ideas we have about certain people or even just the people in our lives that have said something that rubbed us the wrong way and we we think this way about them..

"To the High Museum of Art in mid town, Atlanta Welcome to the first Presbyterian Church. I'm senior pastor Tony Sunder Meyer. And I want to thank you. For tuning in to today's broadcast on I would invite you now to join us in the worship of Our first Scripture today is from Genesis Chapter 50 versus 15 through 21, Please listen to and hear the word of God. In Joseph's brothers saw that their father was dead. They said. What if Joseph holds a grudge against us and pays us back for all the wrongs we did to him? So they sent word to Joseph saying. Her father left these instructions before he died. This is what you are to say to Joseph. I ask you to forgive your brothers, the sins and the wrongs they committed in treating you so badly. Not. Please forgive the sins of the servants of the god of your father. In their message came to him. Joseph wept. His brother's, then came and threw themselves down before him. We are your slaves, they said. Joseph said to them, Don't be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done the saving of many lives. So then, don't be afraid. I will provide for you and your Children. And he reassured them and spoke kindly to them. Thank you,.

"I don't know any of this right dry they don't teach us in schools. Then then listen this he didn't die because the bullet shot him in the back. He died because the doctor who was the doctor who tried to save Lincoln's life kept repeatedly sticking his unwashed hands into the wound over and over get oh, now Joseph Lister at Artie postulated that germs were responsible for infection this doctor did not believe it, and so his motto was the dirtier the better he believed dirty worksites like proved that you are a real doctor also. Doing that and it was the unwashed hands that killed this President President Garfield. So I read that book was like Holy Crap that needs to be known right. So my firm of twenty twenty anti was called Wash your hands oh my gosh. Before you knew anything before the pandemic was ever here. I. Had my team build a sink and I walked to the pulpit after worship and there was a sink there and without saying a word I took off my jury and spent the longest minute of anyone's life washing and lotion on my hands and I got my Bible and said without a technology what I had. Done I said turning your bibles to James and I read the passage about cleanse your hands. You centers your fire heart's double minded and I did a whole sermon and I never talked about Garfield to the very end Yay anyhow and then you know two months later here we are three months later. Here we are hey, I gotta tell you by the way you're January like twenty something sermon on fasting the notes are maybe it was the nineteenth was maybe that Sunday I mean the notes are still in my phone I bet I have about I wrote two hundred words two, hundred, fifty words listening to that sermon. That the spiritual quickness yes. Yes and how fast and get you out of a Rut it helps you hear Heaven's music it boosts your reception i. mean you that was such a strong word leave I. Just I meant to tell you that when it was happening but I'll save it for in front of everybody belie means a lot and you know I didn't grow up being taught too fast i. didn't hear I heard about it here and there but it's been a recent thing my wife and I have fallen in love with and God's taught us so much through it and. was really you know who I have to give credit to that sermon God's book a lot to me, but I listen to quite a few sermons on fasting by two people a pay past Genton, Franklin and Pastor Tony Evans, and Glean a lot of really good insights from them that helped me shape my own theology of fasting. Tell me I mean it's a discipline. We talk about a little bit around here but not as much as we talk about prayer or reading scripture. But I'm with you that it is very hard and also probably honestly my favorite one, it is August. Changing shifting is disruptive. You know at the end of the day, that's all it is and to wake, we have to be disrupted and have to get uncomfortable and I think it splashes water on your face because it tells your body. Hey, things are not going as normal right lead me. I'm feeling a lot of things. Yeah, and it tells your body like no I don't have to do everything I want to do and if I apply that to. Other things I think you mess with the Food in you you get your your get your attention because you're gonNA find out what really comes out emotionally yeah. When you're when you're on yeah because I don't want to make anybody angry here but a Lotta times when we talk about fasting people get well cast social media or can fast TV or yes. Sure. But the reason you walking on sale those things because you don't want to give up food. YOURSELF IS SNEAKY Trick Yourself. We have. So if someone said, we have an endless passively for self-deception. Yes, and I think that is a great instance. Yeah. There's I don't have instagram on my phone right now. adulated at three times in the last twenty days right so but I think when we actually talked about fasting, it's the abstinence of food. Yeah. Yeah and would you I mean would you say to people like when you were talking to your congregation and those of us that were I was on an airplane listening to you preach about fasting those of US listening i. Mean, is it a disciplined that y'all have in as a yearly rhythm or a weekly rhythm or what does it look like in Y'all's family in your church too fast. We start the year with twenty one days of fasting. Okay. We've when God I began to push push buttons on it I I was like, okay. Yeah. Let's do it does do have day and I had a five day fast from from nothing from everything. Yeah. To the five year mark of our church then is and I did we did a five day seven day but we started doing the Daniel fast, and that has as a twenty one day. Daniel. Fast has been our new normal starting to Europe and I just love it. I feel like it's a clean reset we all long for that into a new year anyway. Right and there's just something. This is so purify about it. Right? It's different than whole thirty. It's not this week though that's fine if that's what you WANNA. Do. It's not a let me get my body right it's a okay I'm I'm GonNa take this food out of my life so that my focus is somewhere else that's right and using the time you would spend normally cooking and preparing to pray or to read or to the and I think it's really important to to combine it with a reduction in that flex or reduction and work completely ceasing from those things. My big thing that I do is I do know online shopping during the fast wow. Oh God. Have mercy. That was. As. I sent it. So great when I put it out there right down to it because I don't know about you but I am an Amazon you know. A hollick share Yup and my rule was not only would I not buy anything I wouldn't research anything that's actually my big Achilles heel is I just look so if someone texts me and they're like, Hey, which toaster should I buy? I would be like your brother you descent me porn. or in a solid Internet connection, I, will tell you is. Optimal scenario and the Toaster, right? Yeah. I'm the same way when I'm fasting food I? Also have to fast or decrease television or I will just fill my time with watching TV so that I'm not hungry or so that my so I don't think about my hunger. Yeah you because we again this the capacity for self deception and it's easy trade what idol for another in those moments and I think the the cool thing about it and you know we're not legalistic about any of that. But the point is I you wanted something change and. There's so much comfort like I can't tell you how many times in twenty twenty I thought back to the foundation of the year. Hey, this is how that you're began Scott was an I. I told our Church of the day. Don't forget like God was putting things into our hearts then that we have now we can believe it things have shifted in the heavens and strongholds. Were torn down in those days. God was preparing us for what we knew. Not. He asks I mean that makes me want to ask you about Take Back Your Life Day Journal that you created your devotional I mean you wrote that bef- most of it probably before the pandemic and yet here it is I mean, how did you see? God preparing even this work for this time. Yet what a surprise for all of us the things that we didn't realize like okay. First of all a book about the really guided towards helping people overcome anxiousness compulsive activities have bad habits. Self, lack of self management relational on intelligent decisions all that's kind of that the heartbeat of this book struggling with. Difficulties in internal battles and you know we've been working on this for a couple years. As you know, it takes a while to get. The thing project is together having no idea. It would be released in the midst of a time when people like never before self included would be waking up to difficulties..

Mike's holy teaching our holy kissing sermon or rather know his holy kissing Aska Pastor Tony on where they taught it and defended. Mike talked about the first time he kissed Tony in that Aska Pastor and how he kissed Tony. Without warning or welcome. How shocked Tony and let me just say. It's entirely inappropriate and just arrogant to go around kissing people knowing you're GONNA put on their heels and shock them because men don't go round kissing men and then certainly don't grow them kissing other men's wives and so it's totally inappropriate. It's not out of love. It's not born out of submission to Christ. It is deliberate Exercise of his authority. I'm going to obey scripture in a way that makes you totally uncomfortable. "Merry Christmas season now advent season. We're in church. I forgot we say advent right hope. Everyone's doing well. It's a nice Sunday we're in week. Two of our Dr Series on living life to the glory of God last week Pastor Tony Really set the stage for a uh this idea that we in all domains of life are called to live a life to the glory of God. And I figured the best way for me to recap. That was was just borrow my ten year old daughters sermon notes. From last Sunday. She doesn't even know. And so the pastor. Tony posed does the question. What is it like to live? In the glory of God. Enclose answer was to call out to him to love him and for him to love you and then again she said living in such a way that you're saying something to God and I think that that actually does a great job of recapping thing this opportunity that we have to live a life that glorifies the god of this universe an opportunity to answer the call that God has in our life whether that domain be work or family or parenting or marriage or school or the public square wherever that may be we are called as believers in Jesus Christ to glorify God in all that we do and so this morning kicking Off what will be the first of many topics on this. This idea of living life to the glory of God. I've chosen the domain of work and I think that this is a wonderful place for us to kick off because if you recall at the beginning of your Bible the first thing that God does is what he works. God bless you. God works the very first thing that we see recorded in scripture is that God in fact works and yet in the domain of work as it relates to us in our life and more so in culture today than any other place before we seem to see work as an opportunity to bear our cross us. That's where we go to suffer. That's where we go to struggle that it's like the last place that we would want to be unless we absolutely had to be there and the the only reason that we really want to be there so we can earn enough money to provide for all of the things that we would ever need and or want and yet what. I'm hoping thing to pose to us today and I'm hoping for us to walk away from here. Today is really a redemption of this idea of work because I believe that God has so much more for us in this domain of work than we even see for ourselves. Someone work through quite a few different passages but if you want you can turn turn to genesis one because that's where we're going to begin and we'll cover sixty six books and the no. We won't do that but we are going to cover some of genesis. And then we'll move into a fusions to finish off so let me pray for us and then we'll open up and read scripture together. Father We pray that as we study this idea of work got as we understand what it's like to live a life to the glory of God in our vocation got that you would empower us to do so that you would cause your spirit to work in us. Got To move US maybe to redeem broken view that we have got maybe for us to see a new opportunity that we have or maybe just to reinforce the belief that we've lived with with for so long that are so good and glorifying to you. So what you work in those ways than us this morning in Jesus name we pray Amen All right so a couple of things that I want to work through the first one is I want us to see the way that God works and again that may be somewhat foreign Orrin to us when we say that. Like what do you mean that God works. God is enough to put effort into anything and yet we see from the very beginning. Look at Genesis. One one in the beginning God what God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void and darkness was over the face of the deep and the spirit was hovering over the face of the waters verse. Three and God said let there be light and there was light in fact meaning eating that God created the light and God saw that the light was good and then in verse four and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the Day the Light Day and the darkness he called nine Verse Six and God said Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters and let it separate the waters from the waters waters. God made the expense again. He worked and separated the waters that were under the expanse from above the expense and it was so verse nine and God said Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place and let the dry land up here and it was so again God worked worked verse. Eleven and God said let the earth sprout vegetation plants yielding seed and fruit trees bearing fruit in which they're in which is their their seed each according to its kind on the earth and it was so again God worked I fourteen. God said let there be lights lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night and let them be signs for the seasons in days in years and let them be the lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth and it was so God worked Verse Sixteen and God made the two great lights the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night and the stars ars again to Verse Twenty and God said Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the Heavens Heavens again. I'm going to say it. God worked Verse Twenty Four. In Gods sled let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds lines livestock and livestock in creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kind and it was so because God worked in finally in verse. Twenty six it says then God said let us make man in our own image after our own likeness and let them have dominion over the fish of the over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock over all of the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the Earth so God created man in his own image in the image of God. He created him male and female he created them. We can't even get out of the book of Genesis without seeing how much emphasis God puts on this idea of work to us today. Maybe vocation and we'll get into all the ways in which God calls us to that whether you're paid to do a job in an office or whether you are glorifying the Lord by all of the work that you do in the home whether it's a Chore Chore that you're higher or your parents hire you to do or force you to do. We are all called to work because God in fact worked God works to create is the whole point of the beginning of Genesis. One as I'm laying this out to you this morning morning. God creates. That's how God works. But God just doesn't work to create and again this will relate so much to what it looks like for us later on because turn just to genesis chapter two in skip down to a verse. Eight Genesis two eight says the Lord. God planted a tree or planted a garden in eaten in the East. And there he put the man whom he had formed in out of the ground the Lord. God made the spring up every tree that is pleasant to the site and and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil to stop their. God just didn't work to create eight. God worked to care. God worked to care for us to provide for us because it was good good to do so. And then genesis two fifteen check this out he says then the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and keep it so God created God cared and then finally God works to cultivate. He works to cultivate so then that would go forth ultimately timidly provide for us today three areas that God works in. This means to US church. That work is God given given work not Satan induced. It's not just god-given though it's good good work is good and we can see that because work was instituted before the fall came and this is is gonNA carry into every bit of how we work day in and day out and ultimately how we glorify God in the work that we do because if we don't believe that work is a good call on our life and we don't believe that the fact in idea of work was in fact good because it was created by God then we will go into the workplace and into into the world with a broken view we will never truly be able to glorify God in it by the way work is so good that in John five seventeen eighteen and you can just reference this. Jesus says my father is working until now and I am working even far after the fall long after the fall the father was working and the sun was working and clearly there work looks a little bit different than our work. Does that demonstrates to us again is that work is good good. Because that's the way God works next. This will be very brief. And then I want to spend the majority of time in the practicality of of how we work so if work is good and work has been and created by God and God and facts himself works has does and always will then. We need to see work through the Lens of the Gospel. Ospel because you see pre fall. There was nothing but good right and so when Adam and Eve or initially working working in the garden things are probably really good. There was no labour. There was no sweat it was really easy. They just produced everything that they needed. I don't know oh it was just it was wonderful. The fall came sin entered the world and now all of a sudden we have a broken view of everything. Everything because sin affects everything that we see and the only way that we know how to ever redeem or repair or regenerate anything.

And that may that the parties competing for Chinese, but it's a very this Chinese population, some of them moped towards their ancestry her. "Welcome to the first Presbyterian church. I'm senior pastor Tony Sunder Meyer. And I want to thank you for tuning in to today's broadcast. And I would invite you now to join us in the worship of God. Oh. Gospel reading this morning comes from Matthew sixteenth chapter. We pick up in the twenty first verse. Jesus has set his sights now for Jerusalem. This is right after Peter has made that confession of his that Jesus is indeed the messiah. And that's where we pick up reading. From that time on following Peter's confession that Jesus was the messiah Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and undergo great suffering at the hands of the elders and chief priests and scribes and be killed. And on the third day be raised. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him saying God forbid it Lord. This must never happen to you. He turned and said to Peter get behind me Satan. You're stumbling block to me for your setting your mind, not own divine things, but on human things. And Jesus told us disciples if any want to become followers. Let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it and those who lose their life for my sake. We'll find it. For what will it profit them if they gain the whole world but forfeit their life? Or what will they give an exchange for their life? The.

It's from second Samuel chapter twenty three verses one through seven against on page. Two hundred eighty six in the Old Testament section of your P bibles if you'd like to read along here now God's word for you. And for me. Now, these are the last words of David the oracle of David son of Jesse the oracle of the man whom God exalted, the anointed of the God of Jacob the favorite of the strong one of Israel. The spirit of the Lord speaks through me his word is upon my tongue. The God of Israel has spoken. The rock of Israel has said to me one who rules over people justly ruling in the fear of God is like the light of morning like the sun rising on a cloudless morning gleaming from the rain on the grassy land is not my house like this with God for he has made with me in ever lasting, covenant ordered in all things and secure. Will he not calls to prosper, all my health, and my desire, but the God lists are all like thorns better thrown away for they cannot be picked up with the hand to touch them. One uses an iron bar or the shaft of a spear, and they are entirely consumed in fire on the spot friends. This is the word of the law. Lord, thanks fee to God..
