Miami prepares for Tropical Storm Eta

"Our top story at eight o'clock, not a lot of change with Tropical Storm Aita as we move through the evening hours will continue to see tropical storm force winds and heavy rain as the storm moves up the coast National Hurricane Center director Ken Graham says the worst of it is on the east side of the storm center. It's these rain bands where you're getting the significant wins. You're getting tropical storm force winds. Well, Outlook. Even Orlando and look down here over portions of Fort Myers and Naples have seen these today and now getting into Broward County where we don't need any more rain. Ada is still on a path to make landfall north of the Tampa Bay area sometime tomorrow morning and then be out over the Atlantic By tomorrow evening. At the moment, it's west southwest of ST Pete, Moving north. At about 12 Miles an hour. We later got up close and personal to Florida's West central Coast somewhat sooner than expected, not giving residents much time to prepare. ST Pete Mayor Rick Kreismen says would have been different if we'd have a couple of days. But he also feels very fortunate. We are we're not talking about a storm, which, thankfully, didn't significantly intensify and become a two or three that took the sudden turn in that respect. I feel like we were all very fortunate, but having said that we still want you to take precautions. Savva Mayor Jane Castor says people need to be vigilance with the storm. Even though it's not a hurricane. Castor says conditions could get worse before they get better. The next couple of hours are going to be critical for our area. We're still looking at Tornado warnings and waken have water spouts out in the bay as well, and those could be very, very damaging As everyone is aware, Castor says. The weather can change in an instance people need to be aware of what's going on Long night ahead. In Pasco County, just south of eight is projected landfall. Monica Santiago, the Pascoe emergency management says there are no evacuation orders, shelters or not open, but she is urging residents.

The 1918 Spanish Flu: Fact vs. Fiction

"This is Oscar Fernandes and today on the show, we put the spotlight on Texas to discuss the fact versus fiction of the Spanish flu pandemic of nineteen eighteen and to follow up on the one year anniversary of the mass shooting in El Paso Texas, the largest mass shooting targeted against Latinos, and so there's no need for a long introduction today on the show because our guest today has a lot to say on how the US in various ways is repeating history in its poor response to the pandemic. The scapegoating of others who have no control of the pandemic and which community ultimately praise the costs for the pandemic and so with us on the show today is w Dorado Romo. He's a researcher and the author of a ringside seat to revolution and underground cultural history of El Paso, and is which is available on single prosperous that we joins us today to combat to show W doral Romo. Thank you so much. Is Good to have you with us once again and doesn't probably no way of escaping any news whatsoever as it pertains to the current. Co Ed nineteen pandemic. You know it's affected almost every corner of society both here in the US and abroad. But one thing that's been cited as a frame of reference of valuable one, I would say is the Spanish flu pandemic of nineteen eighteen. Now in recent weeks, politicians and media people have stated that the US has not seen anything like the in pandemic since the Spanish flu of nineteen eighteen. Even you know Donald Trump and self has been cited Spanish flu in his own ignorant ways. I would I would say. But when reasons I want to talk to you was because this soon is the Spanish flu pandemic came up in mainstream media and the first thing that came to mind was Our discussion that we had last year with regards to the bath riots and it gives me the feeling that there's some things missing as it pertains to Race River Garson and the narrative of the Spanish flu pandemic. So a want to know based on what you've seen this far when people sight to space Lou, what do you feel is missing in this important narrative? I think you hit it on the nail. The idea that the pandemic was just a problem of perhaps Just, a a medical problem is something that's usually citing it by these media reports but. Raised and war have a huge part to play in in this. So called Spanish food and I think one of the things that has. Not Been. Looked into as much as. A huge role that the United States played in this called Spanish who I mean I I, I would call it the American sloop because they didn't start in Spain. It actually most of the evidence that we have historically the first official report. Of the Spanish flu was from Pasco County, council. And it was in a in a US military camp. Ford Riley canceled that it I broke out now there's other theories but most of the evidence points to that so this is Not so much the Spanish food at the American flu and I think that has been something that has not been as deeply investigated in many of these. Reports. So the question has to be asked, how did the Spanish flu get its name? If it was actually based here in Kansas as he said. Well. During. World War One, it was censorship. So the when I broke out in March of nineteen eighteen and one military cab. There was hardly anything written about it. It was actually A. A. Cook at the base of contract. And within. A few days there were hundreds of US soldiers? That, That were hit that that excel stake as Devo them died. From the flu. So the reason that is called a Spanish food is because Spain was a neutral country. So they were able to report. The fact that even even some of the most prominent. political figures from Spain were infected contractors to flu. So the name stuck that was the first. Was the first country where there was actually uncensored reporting about the flu to the main stuff but it was. It's also I think this idea of thickness. Always comes from the other side. The His what would you call it? The other association of of disease. You know the. Americans in the very beginning they and some of them playing some of the news sources would blame on the German thinking that it was a form of bacteriological warfare. Germans also had it. And they blamed it on the Russians they call it the the Russian has the Russians blamed on the Chinese everybody blamed on on on someone else the white South Africans called the the copy of. The Black Man Species? So I. Think this is part of. Stigmatization of the other using DC. To kind of Yeah. To stigmatize other racists, other nationality has always been kind of a universal part of this. Funny enough. Even back in nineteen. A lot of the banish medical. So rotation. Would pointed out the unfairness calling the Spanish flu they knew that it had not originated there

But thank you for your call to the low. How you doing a day herald doing real well, man, how about you? Not too bad. Make a call on the it's okay. It's not. Okay. Yeah. The the racist hand symbol that got a guys banned from Wrigley field. Right. Yeah. So I'm calling because I don't think it's okay. I feel like I mean, I'm not I'm not saying that what he did was. Okay. Whatever way he meant it. But definitely there should be. Maybe like some thrown out there. You're like, hey, you know, letting the the first committed the act like, hey, that's not cool. This is what it means. You know, somebody I don't have to public ban somebody mostly because I didn't even know what it meant, you know, I'm in the military by self and this week this week, and I actually went through and I was playing this game with a lot of my buddies this this weekend like right before it happened. And we had no idea. I agree. I think people are legitimizing something that's still very much underground. Even though the mass shooter. Did I still a majority people don't know about this? Yeah. I think we're learning about it. And then the minute you learn it's racist. Then what is it now racist for everybody to do? I think we give it too much power almost you know, like what why let racist tone that symbol. Why don't we just go? There's a guy making a silly symbol. Okay. But then again, it's a different narrative because he did it behind an African American reporter feet, if he just did it then you could say, it's just an innocent thing. You know what? I mean. I mean, I can't make any excuses. I don't even know this guy, but everybody acts like an idiot when they're trying to get in a live shot. Yes. Well, I whether it's being racist or not you're a buffoon. Yep. Whether you're trying to say FM writing the P or something else who got gotta live. Hello. I'm learning. Did you? Hi, how are you? I'm Brian what's up Brian? You guys have you ever seen the Amazon state university hand signed a us at sporting events football games. Goodness. No. I don't know if you're allowed to say it, it's the if you if you're gonna say, you don't know if you're allowed to say it, then you're probably not allowed to playing basketball games. And they'll have like somebody coming out of a shower to try to distract the free throw shooter. But that's a good left. Some colleagues junior live. Uh-huh. Hello from the eight. Oh, six. Oh, hey, sorry. To realize you're talking to. Yeah. Man. What's up? So when you hear about this report that various things, whatever it is always say, they said that this was racist face that we know who's a quote unquote day is I mean, just kind of obscure, I I don't know what just like they kind of pulled us out of their books. Well, again, the fact that a man who massacred fifty people then flashed it in a courtroom, you know, that gave rise to it and that gave legitimacy to it as a racist symbol, there's nothing more racist executing people because they are of another color. Right. Thank you. Well, that wasn't very nice. This is the this is the era Zona state hand symbol, by the way. Yeah. Shocker it's meant to be a pitchfork or a Trident, which is what's their mascot, the devil. Hold. So kind of shocker it's a shocker. What are they gonna have to get so mad tell me? I don't I don't think people have a plan for when it goes awry. Back into a corner. You know, he's he's like a wild animal. But if I back. Yeah, the corner fight your way out fairly don't kick me in the balls to live a low, please. What's up? What symbol wasn't just the deal? Campbell turned upside down like when used to play the finger game, you know, when you when you make a little oak Dokie upside down, and then if somebody looked then you get to punch him. Senator played that game. Is it? Okay. Normal assigned for now. That's okay. But I I would I would if it's me I'm staying away from any combination of your your forefinger and thumb touching each other. And then the w being thrown up. I would just unless you're course, hard of hearing which in which case, well, then you're not listening to me right now. Anyway, I can't raise his people just not have simple, just go. I raise his time racist, and then we can have all of our hand signals back like just wear shirt. I'm racist Puerto right out there. Let's not be subtle about it. Well, they already are. I put it on the DVR, and then I fast forward and just go to the Pasco things, you know, hoping that I will in a six sort of way. I guess hoping that I will see somebody that I know. But anyway, I'm going up there because a company sprayed a lawn with a liquid fertilizer and supposedly an insecticide and a weed control and the lawn is an acre and a half law big. I have not seen it yet. It's a big one acre and a half, and it is almost dead, and I have been hired to go up there. But when you and I wanna talk about diagnosing problems on any type of a plant. It could be a tree it could be a lawn. It could be a vegetable it could be a house plant. Should you look at a plant up close until you looked at it from far and. I thought that was weird dumb. But then I said, no grasshopper. It is not he didn't call me grasshopper. And he says you wanna look at the whole plant. You know, what the plant is going to look like in this case, it's going to be lawn. I don't launch supposed to look like so, but there's a problem you look at it from a distance, you see the problem, and then he said slowly, and I've always done this since he taught me this you slowly start working your way in you notice difference in coloration from one part of the plant to the other part of the plant. You look for evidence of insects. You look for all these things until you start closing in on the problem. And by the time, this is almost always true by the time. You are right there in the middle of it. All right there in the thick of the problem. So they say then you discover what is going on almost always this works almost always you. Discover what. It is going on once you have accomplished that little thing. And I it always works for me. So tomorrow when I go to look at this one acre lawn. A gated community up there. And by the way, I have to be there to specific time in the gate. People are waiting for me and all of this type of stuff to let me in the first thing I'm going to do is I'm going to park. Maybe a house your soul way. And then I'm going to just slowly start walking up and seeing what I see from a distance and just start calculating in my mind, what could be going wrong. Now, they've told me they think this lawn care company. Messed it up, and they very well. Could have it could be very easily that the lawn care company mess it up and truthfully probably is. But it also could be something else. It could be a disease the lawn could have gotten rise October NIA, and then or could ahead rising Tonia before the guy put fertilizer down. And if it had rise Tony before the guy put fertilizer down the nitrogen fertilizer makes the rise. Tony is spread. It's crazy. But who knows? But here's what I'm going to be looking for. I'm gonna be comparing this lawn to the lawn next to it. I'm going to be looking very closely to see what this lawn looks like compared to the neighbors. I'm going to see if there's an overlap in the neighbor's yard compared to this one tour. There's some damage that has overlapped and I want to see if there's a pattern to that overlap. This is all before I even set foot on the yard. This is what I'm going to be looking for. And if I see that that's going to answer question. Because one of the things I've learned is if you're going to solve a horticultural problem a plant problem, and I guess this works for any kind of problem in your life. Stop that slap myself. No, you ask questions success comes from asking the right questions. And the right question is anything that you don't know anything? But, you know, find a lot of things to ask questions about when I'm talking to somebody when somebody asked me what kind of tree should they plant? I've you know, what I I have fifteen questions for them before I answer their question because what kind of tree they should plant depends on a whole budget stuff in this situation. I'm going to be walking up looking at it. And then I'm going to be asking a lot of questions when you know when was wont planted. How old is it win was the application that you're concerned about done. Do you have a service ticket from the company that explains what they did? And all this, by the way. Here's the fun. Fact, the guy that owns the lawn care company is going to be there when I get there. So I'm going to talk to him. And here's another fun. Fact, I know the guy as a matter of fact, the I taught a recertification class several years ago that this guy was in and the guy's got an excellent reputation. This is why I don't rush to anything give the guy has an excellent excellent reputation and sometimes bad things happen. Let me give you an example, sometimes bad things happen. In the eighties. We owned a lawn care company that took care of plants and lawns and things like that. My brother came to work with us. And I was teaching him. How to do all my older, brother? He'd just gotten out of the navy, and he wanted to learn this, and we had a we had a warehouse where we kept everything. And I said we sent him out to spray a bunch of I taught him how to spray lawns. And we were going out to spray launch. And we were spraying the one, by the way, I'm pretty careful. We're spraying lawn. With liquid iron. Insecticides because it was changed bug season. And that is essentially what we're spraying lawn with a liquid iron because it was in the summertime we didn't need to fertilize what we needed that iron. Well, the iron was in five gallon jugs, and it had green labels. Well, guess what else was in five gallon jugs with Cree with green labels, a two four insecticide combination? And my brother made a mistake. He was supposed to put in the it was a five hundred gallon tank. And I think he was supposed to put four gallons of the iron in that five hundred gallon tank. The iron that we were using he's supposed to put four gallons in there. He put four gallons of two forty weed killer in there, and he went out there, and he sprayed seven lawns with that mix. Seven months. And a week later. I started getting phone calls all of the lawns had damage all the lawns. Look like they were going to die. It was a mistake. Why brothers not stupid my brothers? Very smart. He went, and I'm trying to figure out how this happened because as soon as I got out there, and I took a look look from a distance and started walking up. I realized that it was herbicide Davidge, and we weren't using herbicide. And I was just very curious. I said I will get to the bottom of this. And then I went back to our warehouse, and I found the five gallon jugs of iron, and I saw mixed upon them an empty five gallon jug of the two forty weed killer. Boom. I solved the problem. Well, I solve I discovered what had happened solving. The problem. Took a lot more. It took a little bit more effort than that. We brought all those lawns back, but we made a lot of people unhappy, but it was a mistake and mistakes happen. So this is how we do things we go slow we lean into and we discover, and.

It's going to be able to recognize your eyes and be like, okay, they're getting a little bit close at that point. The software would sound a buzzer..

"Pasco county. Mom much from last week. We were we were on location on Friday. So some of this is new to me. Okay. Puts an end to passing school buses. I am putting video up right now of a QVC fail. They were trying to show how an air mattress, how resist an air mattress was to popping. So the two women got on the bed with heels. And let's just say it didn't go as I live. On with heels. They tried to get on the air mattress to show that it was resistant to puncture wounds that it wasn't. It was hilarious. And I I don't mean like just got a little hole and slowly popped like popped on live TV hilarious. It's like the people. What's the the flex seal that guy cuts the boat in half? And then seals it together with the flexible, I want somebody to try cutting the boat in half using the flex seal, and then just sink. Yeah. I wanna see the bloopers from that one. I bet they're out there where the boat just thinks in the middle of the ocean. And he's yeah. We got a treadmill fails. I remember you mentioning that went on Friday and a dad embarrasses his daughter after she misses the school bus. Well, I bet she'll learn to not miss the school bus again. He's got quite a mustache on him. That's what you know. Yes. He loves a mustache on a guy should be. No, he should be the one being shaved not that. I love the mustache on a guy actually terrible. We got this to give you an idea of the kind of people that are running our government. This is amazing in our audience. Will appreciate this. Especially a lot of other radio station audiences probably say what's wrong with that. But ours are pretty astute people. But here we go. I'll read the story democrat socialist Alexandria Cossio Cortes reveal this weekend. She has no idea what the three branches of the government are during a conference call with prospective far left political candidates. I quote her here if we work our butts off to make sure that we take back all three chambers of congress, rather all three chambers of government, the presidency the Senate and the house she said on Saturday with a call with Justice Democrats. And I don't know if anybody even that she was talking to even knew what she was saying we're trying to grab this audio by the way because it was on Twitter. And she tweeted it out for everyone to see how bonehead how stupid can you get their branches not chambers. First of all, she didn't even get that chamber. Get hurt chambers. Right. They are the executive the legislative and judicial. In case, we have to tell you that. But I don't think we have to tell you that. But you gotta tell Democrats socialist Alexandria, Cossio Cortez. I mean when you're that stupid. You don't know any more simple things than that. What the three branches of government are the three chambers and she calls them Jack just said for healthcare just for how you're going to eat for just figured out. Yeah. Just pay for it. That was her quote just pay for it. That's the millennial thought though, they grow up thinking things just happen to put in graduate from high school. I don't pajamas. I don't know. I mean, look at this. Let me read you this tweet. Have you heard this tweet from her responding to this maybe instead of Republicans drooling over every minute of footage of me in slo MO waiting to chop up word slips that I correct in real time. They actually step up to make the argument they wanna make that they don't believe people deserve a right to health care. That's a response to her thinking that should have been. I am totally sorry for being so stupid. And for saying, they're three chambers of congress. The presidency the Senate and the house the presidency the Senate and the house are the three chambers of government. And what a oh man and people vote for well that's up in the northeast area. Problem. I think we actually have the audio here. Is that should we? And if we work our butts off to make sure that we take back off three chambers of congress, rather all three chambers of government, the presidency the Senate and house twenty twenty. Start working twenty twenty you shouldn't start working ever ever. Please go back to from which you came and that would be the womb and start again, and maybe pay attention in class when they teach you there are three branches of government. It's one of the first things you learn in elementary school. Really as its elementary elementary, my dear watching, but that that is so true. And it's hard to believe that she is going to be a successful politician. My Lord, let's see should be successful politician, not even even in the northeast there. That's stupid to elect somebody like that. It's five twenty eight on AM Tampa Bay. Wake-up informed..
