A highlight from God Comes to Man_05PT4

"Hi, I'm Darrell Bailey, thank you for tuning in on the Gospel of John as we continue our Wednesday in the Word, the identity or the deity of Jesus. Here as we're talking about chapter 1, we're talking about God comes to man. Here this is the fifth in the series, part 4 of God comes to man. We pick up with verse 35 going all the way down to verse 51 to the end of chapter 1. When we look at Genesis of the New Testament. And so when we look and we begin to realize, now John mentions the first in John 2, which is basically the most unique thing about the book of John. When you look at all the comparisons of the portrait of Jesus as the king, the servant, the teacher and the son of God. John in the fourth column. Here we see that his key phrase is believe and but what you can't see is right down where my face is located is the most unique thing about the book or the Gospel of John is there's three Passovers involved in it. In the Synoptics of Matthew, Mark and Luke, there's only one Passover mentioned. Remember, Jesus mentions or John the Apostle mentions so many things that were unique in the Gospel of John. He talks about his sermons. He only mentions seven miracles where there's only two that coincide with the Synoptics of Matthew, Mark and Luke. And so John mentions the first in John chapter 2 and the second Passover is in John chapter 6 verse 4 and the third Passover is in John chapter 11 verse 55. It extends on into John chapter 12 verse 1, John chapter 13 verse 1, oh so as it hits back on John chapter 18 verse 28 and 39 and John chapter 19 verse 14. This third Passover was really the one that occurred on the night before Jesus died and it was the one recorded by all four Gospel writers in conjunction with the Last Supper and the death of Jesus Christ. So the first Passover is only recorded in John's Gospel and it may have been the Passover around April the 18th, 8029, the first year of Jesus's public ministry and so as these three Passovers occur in the three years of Jesus's earthly ministry, John alone records the three separate Passover celebrations that he mentions again as I said a while ago. The first one, John 2, the second Passover is in John 6 verse 4, then the third one extends from chapter 11, 12, 13, 18 and chapter 19. And so what an extraordinary writings of the book of John that we see that's in front of us and so this is very, very unique because the Passover as the Jew that obeyed the Mosaic law according to Deuteronomy chapter 16 in keeping with the mission to fulfill the law, the first Passover John records, he's running out the money changers and so in John chapter 2 verse 12 that I said a while ago that after he went down to Capernaum, he and his mother and his brothers and his disciples, they stayed there a few days and so it deals with that first Passover in John chapter 2 and how he deals with things there as well. And so you can compare this to Luke's account of Jesus is doing the same thing two years later in Luke chapter 19 and you know as he was throwing the money changer that my house shall be a house of prayer but you've made it a robber's den and so each and every one of us when we look at the different accounts that each begins to transpire, the most unique thing again I say that in the Gospel of John is there's three Passovers where the synoptic of Matthew, Mark and Luke only have one Passover. Now John tells about the witnesses to the revelation of Jesus Christ, John begins his Gospel by talking about the deity of Christ. He describes the ministry of John the Baptist and then Jesus is baptized and he calls his very first disciples and so Matthew emphasizes his kingship to portray Jesus as the son of David, the Messiah, the king of the Jews and it's directed especially toward a Jewish audience. The genealogy traces the Lord's family tree from Mary all the way back to Abraham and the key word as we said of Matthew is fulfilled because the messianic prophecies were fulfilled in Jesus Christ then we see Mark in his servanthood and in that it betrays the Lord as this suffering servant with the Roman reader in mind it opens the beginning of public ministry of Christ and it records even events of his life that's the key word of straightaway meaning and indicating immediate action and so when we look at Luke and his manhood the Gospel of Luke portrays Christ as the son of man that emphasizes his humanity and of Christ it traces the genealogy of the Lord back to Adam and has the Greek and the Gentile reader in mind. The first three Gospels as we said the synoptics of Matthew, Mark, and Luke describe the events and the life of the Lord Jesus Christ but when we come to the Gospel of John, John his godhood, we find that he emphasizes the meaning of the events in the Gospels that he records much of what is unsaid. He portrays Jesus as the son of God tracing not to Abraham, not to Adam, but before time there was no genealogy, there was no major scene, there was no boyhood, there was no baptism, there was no temptation, there was no amount of transfiguration, there was no guessing domain in the book of John, there was nothing, no publicers, no demonics, there was no parables. The Gospel of John was written with the church in mind. I thank God Pastor Keith preaches a great deal out of the Gospel of John, amen. And so when we look and begin to realize as we said then we noted that every chapter in the book of John emphasizes the Hebrew alphabet. There's only 21 chapters so it leaves off it doesn't get all 22 because there's only 21 chapters but the first chapter everything about that chapter deals with the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet, the aff, the symbol of God as the creator and the master of the universe. When you get to chapter 2, when you get to chapter 3, every one of them follows the lead on the standing of the Hebrew alphabet of what it says in verse 34. Jesus the Messiah, the Christ, the witness of Andrew verses 35 to 41. And so remember what we said in Matthew chapter 3 verses 13 through 17. This is the record of John the Baptist of the synoptics of his baptism that he was baptized, amen. And Mark the same in Mark chapter 1 verses 9 through 11, the second of the synoptics of Mark where it talks about how Jesus was baptized. Then of the third synoptics of Luke chapter 3 verses 21 through 22 that it talks about where Jesus was baptized. These took place in the synoptics but notice the events that recorded the record of John the Baptist and his baptism that Jesus occurs not only in Matthew chapter 3, not only in Mark chapter 1 verses 9 through 11, not only that but in Luke 3 verses 21 and 22 that we see the testimony of Jesus baptized. Here the events take us back to that day because John baptizes Jesus in the Jordan River immediately after Jesus goes into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. This is verse 35 but as we get on down it can jump back to verse 29, amen. If you go back into verse 29 you'll see that because even in verse 29 it said the next day and I thank God that Satan appears before Jesus with three Pacific temptations when Jesus resists these temptations Satan leaves him in time and so I'm glad in verse 29 if you go back to it it says the next day John says Jesus coming unto him and said behold the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world. That's verse 29 the next day but when we start up in verse 35 in just a minute you're going to see the phrase again the next day and these are the events that transpired. I'm glad that we see again. Meanwhile back at the Jordan John speaks to the delegation from Jerusalem about his ministry and verses 19 through 28 that's already the 40th day. The 41st day was the 29th of the next day that you look and you'll see that all the way down to verse 34 that John had already publicly introduced Jesus and described the events that took place 31 days earlier at that baptism, amen. And so I'm glad that as we see this on the 42nd day we actually get to verse 35. John points out Jesus to two of his disciples and they follow him that day with him and later that day one of them they bring their brother to Jesus which is Andrew that brings Simon Peter and so as we get all the way to the end you get to the 43rd day that Philip and Nathaniel meet Jesus. Remember this because this is what's so unique about John because here we see the three temptations of Jesus by Satan. Stones in the bread in John chapter 6 verses 26 and verse 31 to make the bread in the wilderness jump from the temple and thirdly the kingdoms of the world in John chapter 6 verse 15 to take the kingdom by force. What a temptation that the devil tried upon him. The testing and trying that he went through just like the Paschal lamb went through for those 40 days. And again what did I say? It's the same as in verse 29 here you see in verse 35 and again the next day after John stood and two of his disciples the day after he made the previous statements Andrew and no doubt John who at that time they were disciples of John the Baptist. The two disciples were with John immediately they became disciples of the Lord they followed Jesus they may have been Andrew I know and I believe they were John and Andrew and so John did not give his own name nor did he refer to himself by name in the Gospel of John. His experience was very simple of he basically as many of us are that we come to Christ and so Andrew he stood where preaching was.

A highlight from HH5 The Purpose of Life The Heart of Hope w/ Deacon James Keating Ph.D. Discerning Hearts Podcast

"Discerninghearts .com presents The Heart of Hope, Suffering, and the Cross of Christ with Deacon James Keating. Deacon Keating is a professor of spiritual theology and serves as a spiritual director at Kenrick Lenon Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. Deacon Keating has led more than 400 workshops in areas of morality and spirituality and has authored numerous books including The Way of Mystery, Listening for Truth, and Spiritual Fatherhood, The Heart of Hope, Suffering, and the Cross of Christ with Deacon James Keating. I'm your host, Kris McGregor. The name of our series is The Heart of Hope and yet we're talking about suffering. We were created to know, love, and serve the Lord and to be happy with Him forever and the next. What then is the purpose of our life here? Some would say maybe we were born to suffer. Well, suffering is part of it, but it's not the purpose of it. It comes accidentally as a result of, you know, the Christian anthropology, which is there was some gash, some wound at the very beginning, which is a great mystery. We can't, you know, some people to simplistically dismiss Garden of Eden, disobedience of Adam and Eve. They dismiss original sin, but they're being very simplistic about that. There is something broken in the human who strives many times to be good and doesn't reach it or plots and plans to be evil as if it's their right or second nature to them. That's out of kilter. Something's broken in the human. Something is not ordered correctly toward our happiness. So as all the writers our church teach us, mystics, doctrine, we live in a fallen world. So suffering is inevitable, but it's not the purpose. The purpose is intimacy with reality, and the highest form of reality is God opening up his perfectly happy communion, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, opening up that perfect communion of happiness and sharing it with us. That's the purpose of life. The purpose of life is to be taken up into that gift of sharing in Trinitarian happiness, which of course no one deserves, we have no right to, and it is the source of our joy to receive such a gift. Simultaneously, as we are receiving this gift through grace, the sacraments, faith, hope and love, simultaneously as we're receiving this, the body, the affections can undergo great suffering through our own foibles, our own choices to sin, morbidity and decrepitude, aging, we're finite. So, simultaneously with our reaching out to respond to the great purpose of life, sharing in Trinitarian love by the grace of Jesus Christ, we suffer our humanity. But that suffering of our humanity must be placed into this grace, the grace of God sharing his life with us. That's what purifies us, that's what elevates us, and ultimately that's what makes us fit to live in heaven. We take all of our suffering and relate it to this gracious love of God. Purification is a term that we hear the mystics, especially the mystical doctors of the church, describe that which occurs in our understanding of purgatory. And so many of them have said, better to experience that now, experience purgation, the purgatory now, than to experience it after death. There's some sense there of the intensity of the suffering perhaps, and this again is a mystery about how does a spirit suffer after death. But the purity of the spirit, perhaps the intensity of the pure spirit, that will always be related or associated with our bodies, but how we're related immediately after death with the whole configuration of the body disintegrating. How the spirit stays connected to matter, very, very fascinating mystery, but our doctrine says that it does, that the spirit somehow always will be related to matter, to our bodies. This sense that it's better to suffer now, the purification, than afterwards is somehow related to the intensity of the suffering. And we know this sounds perhaps cynical to those who are physically suffering now that the suffering they're undergoing now is not as bad as it would be after. And pastorally, of course, we're sensitive, and we're not trying to degrade anyone's suffering. But ultimately, and theologically, the mystics, the saints, Catherine of Siena, Catherine of Genoa, others have said that it is better for us to undergo it now. One of the reasons it's better for us is that when we die, we will immediately participate in the depths of divine happiness. And so who wouldn't want that? And we know that if we order whatever suffering we're undergoing now to our relationship with Christ, nothing is lost in that suffering. Nothing is lost. There's nothing wasted. People will come in and say to someone in the hospital or some psychic suffering that someone's undergoing, what a waste, what a waste this suffering is. Faith tells us that everything related to Jesus and his love for us is always retained by his Sacred Heart. No suffering is lost. And so everything that we are suffering is actually facilitating a deeper intimacy with him. Eye has not seen. Ear has not heard. Nor has it even dawned on man what God has in store for those who love him. So if you are relating all of your pain to his love for you on the cross, your pain is actually deepening your intimacy with Christ. This is the profound mystery that is reflected for us in the Mass because Jesus' own suffering on the cross is both gathering all of us who suffer to his Sacred Heart and simultaneously deepening the Church's intimacy with the Trinity if we relate it to Christ at the Mass, at Calvary, the Resurrection. So just like we pick up all the crumbs of the Eucharist and we have all those 12 baskets left over so that nothing is wasted, everything will be gathered up by the Spirit and related to the love of God. So it is with our suffering. If we will to order that suffering to Jesus' love for us, he will preserve us. We will not be lost. Nothing will be wasted. And our intimacy with him will be deepened. And paradoxically in our suffering, we will know consolation because of the depths of our intimacy with Jesus. And I think that's the purgatory that we want to undergo here so that when death comes, we awaken only to happiness. When we talk about physical suffering and emotional suffering, there is a difference to the extent that for a woman who would give birth, for example, the pains that you suffer, you remember the labor, you remember the birth, but you do not experience the physical suffering again. That cannot be said necessarily for emotional suffering, that emotional suffering in particular that's rooted in the heart because we go back and we will go back in memory and recall, and the pain is as acute as it was when we first experienced it, and it stays with us. That suffering is so different than the physical suffering that we endure. The emotional suffering, though, that retains such power has probably not been fully related to the love of Christ because Christ will diffuse even the emotional pain so that we can carry it, not as a place of reliving suffering, but as a place of deepening communion with Him. So when you were a little child, your father wounded you emotionally, or when you were a little child, your father hurt you emotionally, and in our memory, of course, we can go back to the very first year of marriage and we can say, yep, he or she did this to me, and it had this effect upon my consciousness, upon my emotions, my feelings. If it's unrelated, if it remains unrelated to salvation, then when we go back there in continual pain, but if we take those wounds and we relate them to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, if we relate them to the Mass, the purest access point of the Paschal mystery of Jesus. Jesus, when I was first married, my spouse belittled me and abused me emotionally, and I felt so alone, so isolated, for everything I'd hoped for in marriage was in disarray. I give you that wound now, I give you that pain, I want you to carry it because I can't. And when we do this on a regular basis, when we give in prayer our wounds to Jesus, our intimacy with him deepens. His communion dissipates any of the negative affections, anger, hurt, resentment, and he begins to free us to enter those wounds as a school of compassion for others. It's his power now. We don't do this. He invites us into those wounds with him, not alone, and the wounds become birthplace of compassion. Without Jesus and without that relation of these emotional wounds to the Paschal mystery, they just harbor our acute suffering, anger, regret, resentment. They become places not of the birth of compassion, but places unrelated to love, so that instead to numb the pain we drink or we act out in inappropriate ways, or we try to escape into the of superficialities American culture because I just can't take the emotional pain in the memory anymore. Well that's not what Jesus wants. He wants the full and explicit, detailed sharing of that emotional wound with him so he can enter it, heal you, and reorder that wound from a place of desolation to a place where you give birth to compassion for other people. So yes, emotional pain remains deeply embedded unless it is related to Christ himself and his love for us. St.-John-Paul-Novena-Day-8

"A novena to St. John Paul II, Day 8 A reflection by St. John Paul Thus the great gift of redemption, our being brought forth to divine life, is a mighty work of God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It must be received by us in faith, it must be lived, it must be proclaimed. O blessed Trinity, we thank you for having graced the church with St. John Paul II and for allowing the tenderness of your fatherly care, the glory of the cross of Christ, and the splendor of the Spirit of love to shine through him. Trusting fully in your infinite mercy and in the maternal intercession of Mary, he has given us a living image of Jesus the Good Shepherd. He has shown us that holiness is the necessary measure of ordinary Christian life and is the way of achieving eternal communion with you. Grant us, by his intercession and according to your will, the graces we implore through Christ our Lord. Amen. We pray with St. John Paul II a prayer he composed. Thanksgiving for the Eucharist For our Paschal Lamb Christ has been sacrificed. Therefore, let us celebrate the feast. O Christ the Savior, we give you thanks for your redeeming sacrifice, the only hope of men. O Christ the Savior, we give you thanks for the Eucharistic breaking of the bread, which you instituted in order to really meet your brothers in the course of the centuries. Christ the Savior put into the hearts of the baptized the desire to offer themselves with you and to commit themselves for the salvation of their brothers. You who are really present in the Blessed Sacrament, spread your blessings abundantly upon your people. Amen. St. John Paul II, pray for us. Amen.

"That's not meant to be diminishing someone else. What is meant to be is the fact that we owe the Jewish people. And what God has done in the Jewish people is the life of a history of Israel. We owe them more than we can ever repay. And so we constantly pray for the Jewish people. We constantly pray gratitude to the lord for the Jewish people and we also pray that Jesus, who was Jewish, the apostles, who were Jewish. We pray. That our brothers and sisters now, who are Jewish. Again, not brothers and sisters and baptism yet, but our brothers and sisters in humanity were Jewish. We pray that they come to know the truth of who Jesus is as well. They come to the place of being able to say yes to Jesus with their whole heart mind soul and strength. Because Jesus is the fulfillment. Of everything in the Old Testament. And so we pray for for our Friends, our older brothers and sisters, the children of Abraham, we pray for them and ask the lord to enlighten their minds and lighten, their eyes so they can see the lord. They can know him and they can love him with their whole heart just like we ask God to open our eyes so we can see him. Our minds, we can know him and our hearts we can love him even better. Let's pray for them. Our Friends, let's pray for those people who are among us who God loves so much. And wants to embrace them and adopt them as his own through baptism as well. Let's pray for each other as well. I'm praying for you. Please pray for me, my name is father Mike. I can not wait to see you tomorrow. God bless.

"And remember, how many thousands of Jews came out to hear Jesus as teaching thousands came out to be fed by him thousands came out to be healed by him. Hundreds were his disciples and we have, of course, the core of the apostles, those all of them were Jewish. And so to recognize that there were some who rejected some of it, especially some of the elite, who rejected Jesus, and there's some reasons why, right? Some of them say that the reasons why were, well, date some ill intentioned persons that says in paragraph 5 74, suspected Jesus of demonic possession because he's doing incredible things, expelling demons. He's forgiving sins, claiming to give sins and doing it. He's healing on the Sabbath day. He is a novel interpretation of the precepts of the law, regarding purity, is familiarity with tax collectors and public centers. That gave rise to some people saying, well, he has to be, he has power, so maybe that power must come from somewhere else, right? This conclusion that some of the religious authorities came to. Now, not all of the religious authorities, again, paragraph 5 75 said this Jesus is a sign of contradiction. He's a sign of contradiction, and so there were some religious authorities remember scribes and pharisees. Who rejected him. But there were many who did not. Some warned him of the danger that he was courting. Jesus praised some of them. He dined several times at their homes. He endorses some of the teachings imparted by the religious elite as it says in paragraph 5 75. And there's something that's very core Jesus is a Jewish rabbi. Keep this in mind. Jesus, again, divine person with a human and divine nature. Is a Jewish rabbi. He is teaching in this line of teachers at the same time he has a unique authority has unique teaching. And this is remarkable. Now, it's worthwhile to note what the catechism points out in paragraph the last paragraph for today. This is the last thing. Paragraph 5 76 says this.

"Jesus Christ suffered under pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. The Pascal mystery of Christ's cross and resurrection stands at the center of the good news that the apostles and the church following them are to proclaim to the world. God's saving plan was accomplished once for all, by the redemptive death of his son Jesus Christ. The church remains faithful to the interpretation of all the scriptures that Jesus gave both before and after his Passover, see himself said, was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory. Jesus sufferings took their historical, concrete form from the fact that he was rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes who handed him to the gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified. Faith can therefore try to examine the circumstances of Jesus death, faithfully handed on by the gospels, and illuminated by other historical sources, the better to understand the meaning of the redemption. Paragraph one, Jesus, and Israel. From the beginning of Jesus public ministry, certain pharisees and partisans of Herod together with priests and scribes agreed together to destroy him. Because of certain of his acts, expelling demons, for giving sins, healing on the Sabbath day. His novel interpretation of the precepts of the law regarding purity and his familiarity with tax collectors and public sinners, some ill intentioned persons suspected Jesus of demonic possession. He is accused of blasphemy and false prophecy, religious crimes which the law punished with death by stoning. Many of Jesus's deeds and words constituted a sign of contradiction. But more so for the religious authorities in Jerusalem, whom the gospel, according to John, often calls it simply the Jews than for ordinary people of God. To be sure, Christ relations with the pharisees were not exclusively polemical. Some pharisees warned him of the danger he was courting. Jesus praises some of them, like the scribe of Mark chapter 1234 and dines several times at their homes. Jesus and doses, some of the teachings imparted by this religious elite of God's people. For example, the resurrection of the dead, certain forms of piety, like Holmes giving, fasting, and prayer, the custom of addressing God as father, and the centrality of the commandment to love God and a neighbor.

"paschal" Discussed on Dad Devotionals: Advice for Christian Fathers, Husbands and Men of Faith

"Now, here's today's show. God bless. Folks, welcome to dad devotionals. This is a special edition here on the night before posca. It is my pleasure to introduce once again father Ted puccini once more on this podcast as he shares the great Pascal sermon of St. John croissant. Father take it away. Whosoever is a devout lover of God. Let him enjoy this beautiful bright festival. And whosoever is a grateful servant, let him rejoice and enter into the joy of his lord. And if any be weary with fasting, let him now receive his penny. If any have toiled from the first hour, let him receive his due reward. If any have come after the third hour, let him with gratitude join in the feast. And he that arrived after the 6th hour. Let him not doubt. For he, too, shall sustain no loss. And if any have delayed to the 9th hour, let him not hesitate. But let him come, too. And if he that arrived only at the 11th hour, led him not to be afraid by reason of his delay. The lord is gracious and receives the last, even as the first. He gives rest to him that comes at the 11th hour, as well as to him that his toiled from the first. He accepts works, and he greets the endeavor. The deed he honors, and the intention he commends. Let all then enter into the joy of our lord. You first and last, receiving a like your reward. You rich and poor rejoice together. You sober and you slothful, celebrate the day. You who have kept the fast and you who have not rejoiced today. But the table is richly laden. Fair you, royally, on it. The calf is a fatted one. Let no one go away hungry. Or take all of the cup of faith. Enjoy all the riches of his goodness. Let no one grieve at his poverty for the universal kingdom has been revealed. Let no one mourn that he has fallen again. And again, for forgiveness has risen from the grave. Let no one fear of death for the death of our savior has set us free. Is destroyed it by enduring it. He spoiled Hades when he descended there. He vexed it, even as it tasted of his flesh. Isaiah foretold this when he cried, you owe Hades have been vexed by encountering him below. It is vexed, or it is even done away with. It is a vexed for it is made a mockery. It is vexed, or it is destroyed, it is vexed, for it is annihilated. It is vexed for it is now made captive. It took a body and low it discovered God. It took earth and low it encountered heaven. It took what it saw and was overcome by what it did not see. O death, where is your sting? Oh, Hades, where is your victory? Christ is risen. And you are annihilated. Christ has risen and the evil ones are cast down. Christ has risen and the angels rejoice Christ is risen and life is liberated. Christ has risen and the tomb is emptied of the dead. For Christ, having risen from the dead is become the first fruits of those that have fallen asleep. To him be glory and power unto ages of ages. Amen. Christ has risen. Indeed, he has risen. "At Colts Colts have put up another touchdown and another one for Zach Paschal. So it's an 11 yard TD from Carson Wentz. A nice short up the middle passed from Carson wins to Zach Paschal. And so now the score is 28 to 16. The Seahawks are still on top as we are approaching the two minute warning, and it looks like the Colts are going to go for it. They're going to go for two and they are not going to get it. And so that two point attempt no brain. No so 28 to 16 remains as we approach the two minute warning right now. Seahawks on top of the Indianapolis Colts. We mentioned in earlier worth saying again. The Arizona Cardinals 38 to 13 right now against the Tennessee Titans about 12 minutes to go in the fourth quarter in that one in Chandler Jones now has five sacks on the day J. It is a day for Arizona. It's a day for Arizona. This is the biggest statement you could argue maybe Pittsburgh if they hold on here, which they have a chance to in Buffalo. But how convincing the wind is, you'd have to say the biggest statement would be the Arizona Cardinals, and you'd say the best performance has to be either Kyler Murray or Chandler Jones. This is a team that had a lot of question marks coming into today without inconsistent they were a year ago. People questioning Cliff Kingsbury is the guy to run this franchise. I'm telling you about silencing critics Week one. The Arizona Cardinals are doing that handsome and no doubt about that. Alright games are coming down to the wire, and unfortunately, we're not going to be able to stay here to deliver you The very final scores. Prime time is going to do that next field Yates. I can see him in the room across me. He's going to give you all of the final scores that we are approaching the two minute warning across the board here and Buffalo, knocking on the door for Pittsburgh. They just called a time out there down by seven. Right now In the fourth quarter, J. It has been So much fun hanging out here week one of me going home with you. We're going home. We're going home to watch the end of the Bangles game and hopefully watch my bears take care of business tonight against the ramp. It's been fun week. One will be back for weeks to same place. Same time. Prime time is next for Jordan Cornette. I'm she Cornett. This has been game day. Thanks for hanging out with us. We'll see you all next time..

"We should one day absolutely do like supplementary eating forward but we never will. We never will because the time has passed if only a third season coming out that we could watch and then do like a season three. Ooh we could do like a supplement reading where we review the first season in the second season. The third one like back to back. That'd be pretty cool. That could be fun. But that's that's all ask it's a lot. It's a tall. Ask just like pedro paschal. Tall tall tall ass. Yeah it's not only big. I'm surprised about how much recognition and adoration. Wanda vision is getting of given that i wasn't a fan of the ending. And so on my mind i wrote it off but hearing elizabeth olsen talked about the process and then kind of thinking about how they made up until that final episode. Some of the greatest like most entertaining mystery television. I've seen and it's really not their fault. That i wasn't satisfied with the explanation of their misery. Because no explanation to any mystery is ever satisfying. I mean in some ways. The only way to preserve the the dignity of a mystery is to never solve it Right this happens across. Almost all mystery. Television ran with the end of mystery. Series people will complain even if the ending is perfect like lost exactly but those first three or four episodes withered as decade hopping and preserving this crazy. Cool like what. The fuck is happening kind of thing. That was some of the most engaging television unseen in a while so absolutely yes it should be nominated for all these awards and costuming set design and all that and writing..

"Men in the MBA. But if you look at the positive games against Brooklyn, he looked pretty good to open the season. I said Milwaukee, Milwaukee was that second game If you look at the positive ones, Brooklyn he was pretty good. Milwaukee was okay the Pistons, the King's the Nuggets, and then that second Blazers game, remember the back to back and they come right back against him and get the win over Portland. They come from behind Hey, struggled against the Lakers, the Bulls, the Pacers, the Raptors, the Clippers. Twice on that first game against the Blazers. So he's about 50 50 for what's been going on What's been bad. Last night was definitely the best game of his career. 20 points for James Wiseman to go with six rebounds and forests and for the most part, he stayed out of foul trouble early in the game, which is a factor right. This is something Steve Kerr has been trying to work on, and I don't think anybody's getting mad at him, but member he walked off the court last week, and maybe it was earlier this week and Pounds that water cooler, right? He was all pissed about it. Sometimes, you know, you see that in little league, You see that in high school basketball, you got kids got an attitude. That's a problem. It's sort of actually makes me figure out line. Dave always plays and always quotes from From Ah Bull Durham, David, he says. If you get fungus on your on your shower shoes and you're in the minors, people just think you're a slob. But if you go fungus on your shower shoes in this show, people see your colorful people say you got character, right? Sort of like how James Wise, but you hit a water cooler in high school. People are like, boy, This kid's got an attitude problem. I'm not going to sign him up for our team. Or if we want to draft this kid, or you go to your NFL interviews right before the draft, and these guys go out or now, kid, maybe a little unstable. He gets all pissed off on the sideline, Steve Carl extent He's like, No man. I like that. This kid is not quiet and reserved. I like that. He's not set in his ways because he's 7 ft two or 7 ft one and thinks he can. He can take on the world with his athletic ability. He was comfortable last night, Hey, slipped and slid a couple of times on some pick and rolls. It was one time where I can think of specifically where he goes up to set a screen on a pick and roll for Steph. Steph gets doubled, and he read it early. So instead of going up and sent in screen and letting the double come, he decided he was just going to slip to the hoop and Steph was able to find him with a pass in which Throws down a Duncan. He gets in and one on it. So it was. It was pretty good. I thought as far as the the how smooth James Wiseman moved last night, Draymond Green. What's really good yesterday in just 26 minutes, He had nine points. And as I mentioned, you knock down that three pointer from the top of the key. Kelly, you break four of 11 from the field. He did not done two more three pointers, which is kind of what we're paying attention to here, But this guy fills up the statute and nine more rebounds for him a couple of steals. He had a block in the game to go with 16 points and There are people out there who are still saying they may be killing you. Braise shouldn't be a starter, and I was wondering this last night. How long you go with this throughout the season? And I wonder how much of James Wiseman's sort of rocketing to becoming a superstar or growth in this game or in this league is going to impact What happens with the rest of the starting lineup. Like if Wiseman becomes a guy where they're like we got to start getting him the ball because he's gonna impact Our game inside the paint. He's going to change the way we can play from inside out. If he starts to really like, impose his will and become a force at some point later this season. I think we can see the war. You're certainly with the play last night, becoming a playoff team. It also makes me wonder if it will will push Steve Kerr to make a decision like he did in that first championship run, which was everybody knows. Everything changed when he decided to put on for Iguodala on the bench. Not because he wasn't good enough to be a starter, but because they needed him off the bench. And I sort of wondered that. Well, the Warriors get into a role where they decide maybe Damian Lee is the better option to start at the two guard opposite Steph Curry in and Andrew Wiggins. And then maybe you allow. You allowed Kelly Hooper Junior to come off the bench and he can go out and he could be a score. He could be a slasher he can he can get in guys faces. You could let he and Eric Paschal sort of be that second unit Paschal last night, by the way, three of 87 points for him off the bench. So in 16 minutes, so not not his best game, But again, you were getting it elsewhere, So I don't know, sort of wonder about that. Whether or not this is gonna be, AH, move Steve Kerr decides to make later in the season but again Kelly Oubre, at least yesterday. Looks like he may have found a little bit of footing with a little bit more comfortable, and Steve Kerr said this. This sort of switch up with rotation is at least been positive over two games, right? They've won two in a row, and they're back in action. I believe tonight. It's back to back in action tonight against the Knicks at Chase Center, then Utah than two against Minnesota. So we were looking at this five game stretch. I mentioned it yesterday It all started with Spurs. But after this five game stretch will be a quarter of the way through the season would love to see the Warriors take four or five in this stretch. They started by getting one yesterday again. 1 21 to 99 over the San Antonio Spurs. Lots of great sound to get to today. They did talk to Steph Curry about the video The Warriors sent out to Kamila Harris, now the vice president of our country, the first African American, the first Asian American, the first female vice president in our nation's history. And Steph Curry talked about watching the inauguration with his two daughters and a son, Cannon and the impact that had on them. And so we'll get to some of that great sound as well. A sound about the game last night about how Good. The Warriors looked again. Steve Kerr calling. This may be the most complete win the best. The Warriors have looked all season.

And for some reason, I just had a brain fart and couldn't think of CJ Beth third and I was on and you took it hard to you or your warrant. And you were lashing yourself. You were. You were hard on yourself. And hey, man, I was the guy who couldn't come up with the Lady Walker. You should have heard Polly Grant. I came on Monday until Polly about it. He merely wanted to break up with me. I was offended. Actually, Murph offended me with that one. He did. He's like, Come on, man. What's going on here? And can tell you hear it's high pressure. There's a there's a lot of rectangles staring at you. Well, that's true. When the bright lights go on, though, Grant, that's it. It changes the dynamic dramatically somewhere. If you're right, I knew I knew Delaney Walker over here in the privacy of my own home. If I had the bright lights of a zoom on me, I might not have been so quick to respond. It's a blow. It's definitely the bright lights and especially when the focus on you because as everyone went around the horn and have the names of people I was like, Oh, I got that one. I got that one Tai streets. I got that one. You know, I could name everybody and then they go. C. J. Beth third, And I'm like, uh, now to spare. We also you know, I had my rose a out I was I was drinking a little bit so You know, so it let's not I'm going to give all the excuses I can possibly give at the end of the day. I remember an active player for the foreign diner who actually started the last two games as the suburban moms with whom we used to socialize with pre pandemic at Little League events would say, Rosie all day Grant s so That's what they say here. That's the big slogan amongst the most suburban moms these days. And with a grant Lippman to Rosie all day, by the way, Tai streets number Woz Well, you nine. Yeah, That's right. Oh, you're back. He's back. But to be honest, I wouldn't have gotten it. I would not forget one of the great things about doing radio. You don't have to deal with those pesky zoom calls. You know what I mean? So No pressure and the answer's flow. Yeah. Alright, Alright. Warriors, outsiders. They leave town after a four in three home stand, you know, could've been five and two. But also, you know, at the same time they snuck out a game Sunday night against the Raptors. They might have lost so things happen. Um in general Grant. I would think that Warrior nation if they're having a conference today to assess the state of the Union. They're feeling pretty good about a warrior team that after the first two games of the season, grant We're not feeling too pretty good about. So what does your been sort of your give us Your state of the Union download here on where they're at, especially after those first two games blowout losses. Yeah, And you think there's gonna be They're gonna take total stats right at the end of the year, and I feel like every warriors fan will be like If you take out the first two games their stats with the year are, you know, because it's just a different team since then. They got blown out by the Trailblazers as well on this home stand, which seems like years ago, so this home stand ended up being very successful. I know it's an incredibly disappointing loss last night, but If you look at it, or in three when they were a team that everyone was, I mean alarms were it was people are scared about this warrant. After the first four games in which they on Lee just squeaked by Chicago and Detroit, they have blown out first two games Trailblazers. Dominate them, and it's it's completely turned around. I think there's a lot more optimism now. Um, I mean, I've never maybe it's always been like this, but for some reason, I feel like people overreact more right now than they have in the past because After last night. Everyone's freaking out again. I don't really understand it. I think everyone needs to take a little macro level. Look down at the situation and realize every single team in the NBA is going through something. It's not been an easy ride for anyone yet. So where the war is a rat right now they have to feel confident their defense is starting to click. Their offense is really actually starting to come together. They're gonna be good. Yeah, I'm with you, man. It's it's been pleasing and playing that kind of vintage Steve Kerr strengthen numbers ball, whether it's 89 10 guys contributing, Um, in fact, that at least my question like if you had to sort of power rank In in your warrior outsider view of your sort of your favorite storylines of the year so far offer you maybe a resurgent Andrew Wiggins on defense flying around offer you the tantalizing talent of a James Wiseman at age 19. Lot for you, just the sort of vintage Draymond back barking and directing and addition and spacing. And then, of course, all offer you 62 Point man and superstar galore, Steph Curry or somebody? I'm forgetting. Maybe a Paschal the rascal. There we go. Bench A grant. What's your What's your favorite story lines so far? Okay. You took the big fish, right? I'm kind of this under the radar guy I want. I want to find the stuff. That's what that coming into the season one of my concerns and how it's going right now, And that was how the words could play without Steph Curry on the floor. And the second unit has been incredibly impressive. Now. Don't look at the last two games because it hasn't gone as well. Eric Paschal, being out past cool has been sensational since and ready for the caviar since the first two games. Their possible score in double digits. Every game he's never saw below 50% in the game. Since then, he's been incredible. I think he's averaged 13.5 points like 18 minutes. He's been everything they needed in that second.

How a Local Business Surged Past Competitors Amid a Pandemic with Charley Boyce

"Up to fire nation. And she's something interesting about yourself that most don't know how you guys doing. I'd say a little bit of research. I'm sure you could find it out but I went to school here at the university of arkansas and played baseball and We were able to. You know. Win the sec. Which i think it was the first time that they had done it. And went to the college world series. Which is a great experience. The razorbacks user. Actually i consider myself a little bit of an aficionado when it comes to college mascots because i'm obsessed with college basketball so i'm just always loving watching my team the providence friars play all the other basketball teams around Always been a mascot guy. Because you know we're the friars it's kind of like the razorbacks that's a great mascot like come on now it is and they're starting to get good basketball again too. Which is nice that is nice and hopefully we have a good season this year. We'll see so fire nation. As i mentioned in the intro. We're going to talk about how a local business has surged past the competitor's amid a pandemic so let's talk about how you originally got involved with paschal air plumbing and charlie break that down for us number tulsa oklahoma originally. I was born and raised a third generation in the hvac business. And then like. I said i came to school over here and Whenever i was done. I opened up a hvac distribution center. Where i I got to know all of the contractors around here. They're all my customers. And i did that for a number of years and then it makes came on at pass goal To work under our old owner in sales. And i got here in two thousand and ten Sold under him for two years. And then i bought him out in two thousand twelve and than i've been doing it ever since so one thing that you've done over the years as you've been able to go from a quote unquote doer to the actual manager. And most business owners struggle with that kind of transition that kind of moves so first off kind of break down what you mean by do or like what you were as this quote unquote doerr. And how did you make that transition into the manager role for me personally. Going from an individual contributor to a manager was not was not too big of a stress. Just for the simple fact that I think i was raised in in kind of a team environment. So i i think just putting a good team together kind of Come somewhat naturally to me. But i think we're the bigger challenge for myself was going from a manager to a manager of managers And that that definitely is a different skill set so over the last couple years. I've been learning to transition to a manager of managers where i'm just checking with people in kind of set in more of the strategic direction and make sure we're executing against it but We definitely have people here that struggled a little bit going from the individual contributor role into that managers row in it. It's a it's a little bit of a challenge. Sure would have been some of those biggest struggles you know now. It's no longer about you. And how well you performed and and now it's it's pretty much. How well can you get the team to perform. An goes less about That individual skill set that made you successful and and how can you teach. How can you coach. How can you help. Keep people accountable. You know default is just to get in there and do it yourself you know and we think we all feel that like man. I i do this faster quicker better. What have you and maybe you could but really. That's that's no longer how your judge now. It's it's how well can you get other people to reform and you can get three or four five people doing it You know they're going to be old. Crank out a lot more than what you could do. You think it's a fascinating

Washington DC's Bike Boom Shows No Signs Of Slowing Down Amid The Pandemic

"Geneva Sharma ordered his first bike just weeks into the pandemic. He lives in a small downtown DC condo with his girlfriend just trying to get out in a safe manner. I figured a bike is the best way only one problem I just. Didn't think about that everyone else was going to be buying bites at this time and I googled IMOs like Lo and behold there's a bike shortage in in America Sharma's bike was back ordered. So it took a while to arrive since he got it Sharma's been exploring all over riding up to twenty five miles at a time for many in the city outdoor space has become a premium cycling, his boomed as it's one of the safer socially distance ways to exercise. During the pandemic, some local trail sensors of shown twenty five or fifty percent increases in traffic over the same time last year if you want a new bike, it could take a few months waits for repairs, stretch three weeks or more at some shops demand his far outweighed supply that's been tightened. Thanks to the pandemic and shortage of parts from China. The US market is competitive. Two things have been terribly busy. That's Keith Jackson who runs operations for gearing up bicycles. A used shopping eggington I've been in a bicycle business since nineteen, ninety, five and everybody would tell you they've never seen anything like this between the desirability of bicycles. All of a sudden people stuck at home and people no longer doing comfortable mass transit Jackson found a line of people outside shop when he arrived for work the first weekend after DC, shut down in March, I sold everybody that Saturday all fifteen used bikes gone in an hour and a half. Wayne Sousa co-owner of Conte's bike shops has also seen unprecedented demand for new bikes. He sees a lot of first time cyclists and families who are looking for group activities outside the House. His biggest suggestion for those who may be looking to get into cycling. You don't need to necessarily buy a bicycle that's the most expensive one that they have or the fanciest gadgetry that they had of just get a bicycle that you feel comfortable on and start writing but getting comfortable running bike in the city doesn't come naturally for all the Washington Area Bicyclist Association has had record demand for their learn to ride and riding in the city classes. Wobble plans to restart in person classes. Later, this fall was social distancing, but for now. Everybody. Thank you so much for tuning in to today's women are rubbing. Short has been teaching cycling skills for more than three years. But now she's sharing knowledge online. Wada has created online spaces for beginners to ask questions and learn more about how to get into cycling. Short shared her favourite safe trails in Prince George's county during a recent Webinar but she also had a call for action. We need you out there a lot of us live in the county or little frustrated about the lack of bicycling infrastructure. But a lot of times that stuff is based on the demand sold more bikes mainstream more infrastructure more trails more all of that cities across the world or adapting to how people are moving around during the pandemic Peres is adding four hundred miles of bike lanes. Austin Texas voted to spend one hundred, twenty million dollars on new bike infrastructure. DC and other surrounding areas haven't committed like those cities. The district is staying with its plans to add twenty more miles of bike lanes by twenty, twenty, two, the Bike Association says, that's too slow. Officials have created some temporary space for walking and biking, and DC, in Montgomery County but it's not clear. These changes will last Sharma's he hopes those kind of spaces stick around because he'll be biking even after the pandemic is over climate change and his own health are among the reasons I think I'm GONNA keep to it I whenever we get back to the office I. Think I'm GonNa Start Cycling to work once I forgot how to make sure I'm not sweaty when I got to the office. Ann Beattie Reads Mavis Gallant

"Hi Anne Hi Deborah so you mentioned for me that you read the story for the first time last summer how did you come across it then. I'm Visiting writer at the University of Virginia this fall and I have to give to public talks and I was pulling books off of my shelf just looking for different examples. Awesome things that I wanted to mention in those talks and I pulled down the best American short stories of the eighties which was edited by Shannon. Ravenhill and I thought. Oh if I've never heard of this Mavis askelon story. It just blew me away. I mean I just loved it I WANNA do nothing. But think about this Mavis gallant store. What was it about the story that surprised you well? I could answer that in a lot of ways. I think but the way that she moves through time you know. I think I think that the liberty she takes with those leaps and it's happening all over the place I mean she. She works like a dragonfly or something. She's really amazing. uh-huh had you been a fan of Mavis glance work before that I am but you know I don't know it anywhere near as well as I should I find such immediacy. See in her writing that I always like it. I don't know why I love this quite as much as I love it. I really found this an incredibly startling story the visuals I think part rid of it. The the imagery of it. Yeah the imagery of it It's it's set Or as written unpublished more than thirty years ago. I think on the eve. Steve of the nineteen ninety-one French presidential elections. Does it feel to you so it belongs to a different era or does it feel completely undated. I did I noticed the politics of it. You know but it. I didn't know that I didn't know what you just told me. And I think that's very interesting but it didn't really seem to be an an enormous factor except to make this very believable in terms of the kind of conversation that was held. And you know the way galant tells you people's opinions the we'll we'll talk some more after the story and now here's an beady Reading Day Day by Mavis Gallant Day. Pascal Breuer a is fourteen now he used to attend a lycee but after his parents found out about the dealers in the street outside the gates they changed to a private school here. The situation is about the same but he hasn't said so he does not want to be removed again. This time perhaps perhaps to a boarding establishment away from Paris with nothing decent to eat and lights out at ten. He would not describe himself as contriving or secretive. He tries to avoid drawing attention to the responsibility clause in the treaty that governs peace between generations like his father the magistrate he will offer neutrality before launching into descend. He has described his own mind to Pascal. It is like a superlatively smooth car with an invisible driver in control. All the driver is the magistrates unconscious. Will to Paschal a mind is a door ajar or shut. His grades. Rates are good but this side of brilliant. He has a natural gift a precise perfectly etched. Memory how will he use it. They met for the first time in May of nineteen sixty sixty eight a few yards away from a barricade of burning cars. She had a stone in her hand when she saw him looking at her. She put it down on. They walked up the boulevard. Sam Michel together and he told her his plan for reforming the judiciary. He was a bit older about twenty six six answering his question. She said she was from all sauce. He reminded her how the poet Paul Awad had picked up his future. Wife David the street on a rainy evening. She was from all sauce to and starving and in a desperate muddled amateurish way pretending to be a prostitute. Well this was not quite the same story in nineteen sixty eight. She looks at the pages mart culture to see what is on the galleries. He reads three morning papers tapers at breakfast and if he has time lest evenings lemonde reading he narrows his eyes sometimes he looks as though everything he thinks and believes had been translated into a foreign language and suddenly back again when Pascal was about nine his father said what do you suppose you will do one day. They were at breakfast. Pascal's Uncle Day. was there like everyone else. What's Pascal called Him Day Day? Pascal looked across at him and said I want to be a bachelor like day day.
