"Of Tyler Adams road to the cup powered by VW that drops this Thursday on this very pot feed. America. Okay, Aston Villa three Manchester United one, Unai Emery returns from the wild like a basque Bear Grylls to teach villa some crafty survival tactics and within 11 minutes, his new charges were two nil up Leon Bailey got through in the 7th minute to open the scoring and unfilled a wonderful little dance move on the end line and Luka dny doubled up your favorite rods Luca DA doubled it up with a wonderful left footed free kick united pulled one back just before the half after Luke Shaw's effort from distance took a massive deflection off of Jacob Ramsey, but the young English man, a tone for the own goal or unintentional own goal on the other side of halftime, arriving late and blasting one into the top corner to Mark Unai Emery's return to English football with a three one win. Yeah, watching Emily and just salute and taking the applause pregame from the giddy home of illa fans. He's just signed four and a half year contract enormously long. He talked about his dream to secure Aston Villa's first major trophy in 26 years, return the club to its historic glorious past almost recover his own reputation after it was somewhat savaged at arsenal. It looked like I got the thing it was just a Persian cat having its tummy rub. Do you just look so elated to be there? Despite just overseeing three training sessions, it all began like a fever dream 7 minutes in fuller playwright through the middle Leon Bailey Concacaf and smashing at home incredible stat. He's got four Premier League goals and they've all come under different managers. Dean Smith, Stevie G, danks emery. Here he finished crisply through the hair first goal from open play, the Spaniard had conceded in just over 12 hours of league playing with only take three and a half minutes before it would be two. Then yeah, spanking a free kick, dipping, web precision, like a French tattooed sleeve debris, peak, new manager bounce was achieved, David. Looking unrecognizable from the team that played under Stevie G, great energy, great speed and honestly, you know, playing their opponents in a proponent that's been playing very well recently, just played them off the park at points. Yeah, united could live with villa's intensity, their press, a lot of players out and made a massive difference brewed a suspended van der beek, giving his first start in the team for 701 days and all he did was share why he doesn't deserve another. And united did force her way back into the game as villa punched themselves out a little towards half time, but it proved to be a false dawn second half, villa killed off the game, a calamitous sequence of defensive play from united, leaving the excellent Jacob Ramsey who emery had reinstated to finish. It was the rubbernecking delight of a Ronnie Ming's fight. God, that is how far he's fallen these fighting Tyrone rings. And it's really the only punch Ronnie had the CR 37 on the day when he didn't just start, but in Bruno's absence was captain, you know, you've got 494 million followers on Instagram and you too can be overindulged at your football club. With him at the tip of the arrow united really they were playing with ten men for much of this game just outpaced how exactly does the new manager bounce work? What actually goes into it? I really wish I understood more about it. But yeah, every single player just really showing up and trying to impress players. You didn't get a lot of minutes Leon Bailey being one of them. First win against united for villa in 9941 days villa fans who were. Oh, I thought she could say years. 30. Well, if you were a villa fan, and you were alive for the last game, you were 13. And you were now 40 when you watch this at the weekend. That's a lot of life. United first lost in the league since August. And let's talk overboard at the end of an impressive run. But it's got to be noted that without veran without Bruno Fernández ra Anthony, this squad, which is that so much money spent on it. They did look thin. European knights fans, united drew Barcelona in the rupa league. This morning all hail hot balls, but who knows at the wheel? They've a Stevie G died so that villa could lift. That's how Stevie G will see it. But how much did the villa players really hate Stevie G when they can play this well? Ah, that could be the secret of the bounce. It wasn't so much a bounce as a rebound is what you're saying. Southampton won Newcastle. Wow, four, four different goal scorers for the magpies beginning with yet another for living the dream, miggy armor on his fourth straight game with a goal in his 8th on the season with fabulous goal as well. Victory that sent Newcastle up to third Southampton, meanwhile, have said goodbye to Ralph Hassan huddle after four years in charge. It had to happen. So we meet again in the Alpine ski lodge lobby bar in the sky route. Another weekend, another surging comprehensive victory for pith castle, leaving their fans who'd made the 644 mile round trip to the south coast. The chance to take their shirt out and go belly off in The Rain, Eddie Howe rings up a urine charge of football's latest blood soap nation building process 19 wins in his last 32 games, partially due yesterday to being heavily backed in the last transfer window, but also partially down to his tactical savvy, his man management, and his desire to build a squad that's constantly hungry to learn, Miguel moron again, another game of a joyful goal 7 in 7. His 8th goal of the season, just incredible to watch this stat, David, his first 1327 days as a Premier League player a 154 shots ten goals, his last 36 as a player in the Premier League 23 shots. 7 goals. That is the eddy how effect is almiron the best 100% human player in the Premier League this season? I believe someone came up with a better tweet as a response. Yeah, they did. Mike Marshall, he said, I'm not convinced that we're not watching cyborg Alma or two negative. I don't even know what that means. Newcastle Goethe, Southampton, into the bottom three and Ralph Hassan huddle, who's been like a cat with 9 lives and held on after humiliation after humiliation, not after this one, 6 defeat in 9 games fired. After being asked by a journalist, do you see a way out of this predicament and Ralph just said, no. Hard to watch him struggle. He's got a young young squad limitations at the front and the back is four years of thrills and spills and dabbling in elite mixologist waste coats are now over. He was a good coach, rip Ralph Hampton, loon town's Nathan Jones rumored to be negotiating to take over the Nate Hampton era is upon us. West Ham won Crystal Palace two or otherwise said directional deli meat, one reflective royals home. Two. It was Sunday's second London Darby road, the irons jumped out ahead in the 20th minute when Saeed Ben Rama sent an Algerian blast into the top corner but Patrick Vieira's palace answered, wow, first in the 41st minute with wilf, capitalizing on a sloppy West Ham turnover in their own third and staffing it back down David Moyes throat. And then in the game's dying embers, Michael Elise shot hit off Aaron creswell. Sorry, producer J dubs ending up in the back of the net palace are in tenth place on 19 points the same number as Liverpool. West Ham looked like a number of teams this week, but more than any of them to have players. His mind was really on the World Cup and not getting injured rather than, you know, doing the club job. And that 94th minute punishment came Alice challenged just this week by Vieira to score more this season. He obliged via that enormous deflection, but he won't care. Michael Lee say, quoting Michael Scott, quoting Wayne Gretzky. You miss a 100% of the shots you don't take crystal palaces first away win at the season. This soothed some of my Chelsea wounds this weekend, roger, I won't lie. Wolves to brighten three after valiantly coming back from an Adam lallana opener to lead to one walls. Oh, they shot themselves in the pores. Nelson somato first out jumped at the back post by Caro mitoma to concede the equalizer and sent off some minutes later for a last man challenge on the Japanese forward Brighton's patients paid off when in the 83rd minute Pascal gross found the back of the net for the winner. "Home. Only to find his parents have turned his old bedroom into a gym. The Brighton turned Chelsea bar suffered his first loss in his new gig at the hands of his former employer and in relatively spectacular style the seagulls and their crowd we should say just completely took Chelsea apart from the off year goals from Leandro trossard, Pascal gross, as well as two Chelsea own goals from Loftus cheek and challah but do the damage all credit to Roberto de zerbi, who gets his first Premier League win over his future employer on the south coast and Graham Potter's first loss as a Chelsea manager. Yeah, and in the 7 weeks Instagram Potter ditch Brighton, he not only has had an extreme fashion makeover which less than looking a little bit like a young Kenneth Branagh. He's not lost in that time. And the bright in the told you not to worry about we get to win in his absence to this return really a taste of what Ted Lasso season three is going to feel like when they goes back to Richmond or West Ham boo west dam. This return, as we soon found out, it was pretty much how that scene a big lebowski where the duke comes home to find the goons peeing on this rug and from the off. The brain fans just all over kuka Rea buoy them. It was like boo in a care pair or an ewok and Chelsea looked, well, from the off data, they didn't look like themselves. Those weird kits. Are they as close as we're going to get to seeing football players all over there playing in the newt? Yeah, it was sort of was it oatmeal? Was it beige? Was it cream? I think they probably were designed and they thought they were gold, but it was a horrendous strip. It was so weird whenever it was a long shot. Honestly, look, they're all running round in shame in their buff. And just football, Oliver, you're Olivier Giroud with a loved it. What I look nude, great. I love it. But most of them are like, let them really want to and why are we doing it? Has Todd bowly done some kind of a deal with skims, revenue lines. That's when it honestly looks like. And the first half, the pattern of play was shocking to witness Brighton so quick to the ball. So up for it, charging down the wide area is pressuring whenever Chelsea in possession, just that Angola can tell us midfield was bullied, bullied by the seagulls, Thiago Silva and he cleared two headers off the line, like Raven seconds of the opening whistle, he's so right. 5 minutes in. Trossard ball stuck to his feet initially, managed to dig it out round the keeper dance dance dance a little man and slap the ball deliriously into the corner. Bonus points for humiliating kuka Rea on the line. Astonishing. You know, Chelsea just being taken apart, particularly on that on that side of the field, on their right side. And definitely missing re James, I think you mentioned in golo kante, which I think is valid. I think missing Rhys James, but trying to adjust to this back three from Graham Potter, this sort of this wing back situation with all these players playing out of position. And just on this day, with the atmosphere in this ground and the previous that has felt by a lot of obviously these players against their manager against the departing kuka Raya, they just bought it so strong and Chelsea were just stunned from the open. It all happened so quickly. It reminded me of the time the Scottish comedian Jerry sadowitz opened his set at the Montreal comedy festival with the line hello moose fuckers and had someone jump on stage and knock him out cold. Brighton we're essentially that heckler and their fans reveled in the moment chanting Potter Potter what's the score and you're just a crap brake and who value Albion and I'm paraphrasing there. The team ran rampant raz and pulisic at wingback for Chelsea is great when Potter's team are able to dominate but my God with just marsh, delighting and destroying cuca Rea down the Flank politic exposed time and time again, not tracking back on his side and it would get worse for Chelsea, ruble Loftus cheap doctor corner into his own net, 50 minutes in, you're getting sacked in the morning, ran out and the crowd Brighton, who's called just four times at the dessert, skewing twice inside 15 against Potter. I mean, how did you understand it is, is Graham Potter just like a MagSafe charger, you just need to be proximate to propel Brighton back to full energy. Yeah, definitely. I mean, he said, in three and a half years at Brighton, he'd never felt the atmosphere. In that ground, like it was that day. And I think, look, Potter has had a fantastic start at Chelsea. It's definitely they were in real trouble in the Champions League when he came in and now these successive victories have sort of propelled them to the top of that table and qualification into the last 16. I think that there is, you know, obviously there are teams who are dealing with it really well, like Manchester City. Who are able to sort of win midweek and then figure out a way or they're able to get their results mid week and then able to win at the weekend. But it's taking its toll on this squad. Of course and I think you notch this one up to a special situation. I'm not so alarmed. It was so bad. It was almost so poor the performance and Brighton was so good that, yes, do not like watching Chelsea lose in that manner, but they'll have to lose a few more for me to start thinking, okay, this is a permanent issue. Chelsea did counter raz charge forward, set up Conor Gallagher, hit the ball straight at Sanchez. Who did it come out to? Even as it bounced out, I was like, please do not let this go in. The vicinity, a Cristiano pulisic, open goal, but he slapped it wide, an agony, and that is new in a long must brave new Twitter world. I just knew everyone would be fair and balanced about politics blown chance, right? David, not that Gallagher really had the horror miss, right? At coal Brad 16, one of the many level headed commenters plus it gets an opportunity. What are the worst players on the pitch? Face it, folks. He's Freddie ado. Dave out. How many books did Freddie do right again? He didn't zero. And then I wrote a book as far as I know. I don't know. Yeah, they're a fundamentalist as we've said before. There are propolis and anti politic fundamentalists on both sides who are equally insane. The middle ground. This was not CP. CP's finest performance in the Chelsea shirt. I don't think anybody could argue it, but it was, he was the last person who was responsible for this result. I do think Conor Gallagher, by the way, was the one Chelsea player who covered himself in some credit in this game. I thought he was, I thought he was superb. But yeah, I wouldn't overreact to that, miss. Yeah, Brighton then skimmed down the left through the space a proper wing back, which Christian is not would have been Brighton who could barely school last month, suddenly had the ability to make Chelsea do their bidding for them. Chelsea, you remember, and the Potter had only conceded four times himself. I mean, David, was this Brighton experiencing the rare old mother belt? Yeah, that's interesting. It's the only legit. That's really good. We've said countless times on this show that there are few more motivational human emotions in the world that propeller team more than spite and that I think is what ultimately led to this overwhelming performance Graham Potter experiencing the kind of return home. We've only ever seen in the deer hunter. It's a bit like in Rudy when dude returns home for Christmas and his brother's date in his girlfriend, second half caper injured mendy and Chelsea flicker back to life fine goal, Conor Gallagher split in

"Our solid counter attacking reliant, but really to me and you're the expert just Antonio Conte pragmatic, which is ferocious, locking down the back, still gelling yet at the front. But my God, four weeks in, there will be delirious about where they are, which is exactly, I think, where they want to be a team in progression with so much more to give, so much talent, a squad with depth still to bed in, best start to a Premier League day in 13 years and there's no doubt in my mind much more to come. Yeah, and can we just say Conte's hair system looking even better this season than it has done in any of its previous incarnations. I don't know if there's some additional work done in the off season or if it's just bettered in. I've treated my yard that are like this that sort of go in and for the first four years they just don't look quite ready to be there. 5th year they get in and they're like, they're ready to go. You think it's 5th year? I guess springing to football sources on this and they've assured me that there's a rumor that I'm still working to confirm that it's Harry winks teen tech. I don't believe that the four words Harry winks taint hair have ever been said in combination before anywhere else in the world. It's a great new band that it's like my new dexy's midnight runners cover band. Harry winks take care Brighton one leads nil leads United States of America, suffer their first loss or non win of the season. Do you like mama? Yeah, I love it. I've got it for those who can't see, which is everybody because this is a podcast. I got from the Leeds club shop, a Tyler Adams, official mug, which is just Tyler and I say fairly awful caricature of him. But Adams and complete another stars and stripes, which I just utterly love. Leads, united states of America. And by the way, well, I'm clicking the lead club shop in color atoms. Let me just tell you up on YouTube as I speak is a whole interview between me and Tyler Adams in which he is just so bloody a bully about life in Yorkshire and the Premier League. Go and check that out. Now subscribe, follow us on YouTube. We are dropping so much almost optimal, I'd say David. I don't know how you feel about it. It's almost bloody optimal content on that platform. Yeah, great plug, by the way, rod, because we don't actually own the leads United club shop, even though we should do with the amount of stuff that you've bought from it. So I think I was in the middle of still describing the game at the hands of a professorial Graham Potter. The difference here, a well worked 66 minute Pascal gross goal, his third of the season, truthfully, the south coast side were the better team throughout this one, extending their unbeaten streak to 9 consecutive league games dating back to last season. Three wins and a draw this season take Brighton, roger, up to fourth place, leads meanwhile, will look to rebound in their next game against, let me check one second, sorry, I didn't prepare this before. Oh, Everton football club. Oh my God, Sophie's bloody choice. Let's talk about this game. Now, Jesse marsh, ringing up 6 months as a Premier League manager of the Leeds White Sox facing up to bidden when the boy Graham Potter, a gentleman so sweet that the racing rockabilly couldn't even manufacture a beef to avenge in the game before kick-off and we noted on Friday's WG FOP podcast. This was the first game Brendan aronson, the player Brendan Rodgers believes, was named in his honor, would have had a Premier League manager given a week to work out how to shut him down. And the first half he was really muted as Kai say do and Brighton really dominated the game in that midfield just so many shots of the Leeds fan faithful. God, they travel in such huge numbers all over the country make a hell of a noise, frustrated, standing in, always what I love, the smatterings of supporters wearing now, the stars and stripes, either American fans already coming over from the states. And I think there will be increasing numbers of them or local fans, some of whom called into the square ball podcast. I played on Friday, where they kept referring to Brendan arrants and delightfully as I love that little young budget. You know, running the place. I love the Yankee badger, roger. Oh, leads would have felt fortunate to go into the half all square and could have taken the lead with aronson's one moment of wonder, a stupid and was dispossessed, queuing Brendan to go on a signature errands and family run, set up sinister, the substitute, Bosh the ball inches wide, fell into the pace for dramatic effect and it proved to be a very big sliding doors movement because within minutes, Brighton pursued them working the ball exquisitely from left to right, finishing with a rifle from Pascal grace 5 in 7th for him. And it was really an agony for lead, Steve felt like to me and I don't like to exaggerate when that ball went in. Almost as if American democracy itself took a heavy ding. Yeah, and Danny Welbeck, wow, what a player and very involved in that move as well. Yeah, I mean, leads, you can see, especially a manager as smart as grand Potter really came up with a plan to play against leads. And Brighton did in truth cut them open a few times when leads just got too high up the pitch. Ultimately, you know, leads are going to lose games like this. They're not going to go many games to that scoring a goal. I don't think. But they are occasionally going to be prone to getting hit. By an incisive move on the cancer or an incisive move from back to front. First defeat of the season, full legion united, no shame really against Brighton, a club record, now 9 games. Undefeated for the seagulls who were such a well drilled squad with a definitive idea of the footballing world play and then you play as bedding in as if they've always been there. They deserve this with they're really a model to me of what leads could and should become and hopefully really a loss that will be lessons learned for Jesse marsh for whom I think it will be in agony that the bright and gold came just when leads were attempting to positively assert themselves his frustration, showing in the way that he slammed the ball to the turf and then claps sarcastically just another

"Should we go around the leak now with just a quick whip around JJ of some of the other marquee fixtures from over the weekend? I put this run down together so I demand it. Lester and Southampton. This is, this has become a little bit of a worrisome start for Leicester City. Yeah, it definitely has. However, and again, I don't want to next week is jump to conclusions week, so I don't want to jump over things, but you definitely look at Southampton and how they study the ship and think maybe particularly in your relaxation predictions. Senior gundling that you might be swapping Leicester for Southampton. I'm not doing anything yet. Don't worry about me. Mind your own business. All right. Not yet, not yet. Let's see, JJ, Tottenham getting it done against wolves. I mean, that's really all you can say about it. What an awful first half for Tottenham, I guess with spurs so far this season, I think it's interesting that look at all of their games so far. These three games that they've played. Now yeah, granted in their first game, they did beat Southampton four one. But remember how that started. They were down one nil after 12 minutes. Look at the next week against Chelsea. That first 45 minutes. And what did I say about it last week? That was one of the worst first halfs I've seen them play. Certainly under Conte, maybe among any manager over the last couple seasons. I mean, that was that was a brutal watch where they couldn't get out of their own half. And then this past weekend, they were, I mean, there were some boos around White Hart Lane after that first half. What is going on here? I guess it's a good sign that they're unbeaten. Two wins in a draw from these first three games without putting together a good 90 minutes. So, I mean, that tells you, I guess that tells you that there's a lot of great talent in the squad, and that whatever content is doing in that locker room at halftime, it's working because they are coming out at different side for the second half. But it's a little, it's a little bit unnerving. I would say to see them not be able to put together a solid 90 minutes across these first three games. So that's something to keep an eye on. Also should mention Harry Kane 250th goal for the club. What a player. And that was a great goal of the flick on from Paris. That's a well worked corner right there is what is what that was. It was and not for the first time we've seen we've seen cane score. That exact goal. Yep, just kind of lurking at the back post. Just knows where to be. Set pieces have been Tottenham's friend so far, getting the late go off a corner kick against Chelsea and then they get the winner against wolves. So not an amazing start to the season for them, but good enough for the moment. JJ West Ham, losing to Brighton. Not a great start for the hammers. Terrible start. They look, the worst thing. After coming off two defeats in a row, the worst thing you can have is to play Brighton right now. In the Premier League, because they cause you so many problems, they're such a well drilled side, but you're still expected to win. So you can't win against these guys. West Ham will still have been favorites, and their fans will still have gone to the London Stadium at the weekend expecting to win. But that is not the case. Brightener and a much better position than west time right now. They need to stop out of this and quickly. And try and get some form back. And again, they've got players bedding in. But I want to talk about Brighton again. The second Brighton goal was such a good goal. Trust arts goal. What a lovely move. What a great finish. And what a flick from Pascal gross. Oh, just falling over around the corner in you go. I mean, trust our operating in that midfield position, 107 appearances for Brighton, 19 goals, 11 assists, he's only 27. Look, I'm not one of these people that says, oh, go out every club should lose their best player. And that these are just feeder clubs, but he is, I mean, he could slide into any team in the league, and we hear a lot of talk about other players, but we rarely hear about him. Let's see, Everton and Nottingham Forest settle for a draw. Feels like, you know, because Forrest, I know everything dominated that game, but it feels like disaster averted because Forrest went warning up in the 80th minute. Ten minutes left, you can imagine the stress around the ground and Everton pulled it out of the fire. But I think we're moving on in the news pretty quickly. Anthony Gordon looks like according to the athletic has asked to leave Everton. The price tag for him keeps going up and up and on Chelsea said they'll pay 60 million. Am I missing something? I'm not saying he's good. He's definitely good and he's young. Like I understand the potential there, but I keep seeing the numbers potentially for his move and I just,

"JJ devani, what's up, brother? Andrew. Happy vacation to you. How's it going? It's beautiful. It's beautiful. I'm looking out the window right now. No clouds, mid 80s. It's glorious. What a trooper you are as well. This podcast never takes any time off. No. Because you schedule demands it. But you are, you never fail to show up. And I never will. Fail to show up. That could have been interpreted the other way, I suppose. I will never show up. No, I've done this podcast from weirder places than this. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, look, for me, in terms of not to talk about ourselves, but in terms of like the weird situations in which we've recorded this podcast, 'cause there have been many you from the back of a cab in Ukraine, and for me, on my in Rhode Island on my ten year wedding anniversary trip. It was probably the most precarious, but this is easy. And this is a joy right now. I couldn't be happier right now. How are you? How was your first weekend back in the Premier League? It was good. I joined some friends on Saturday at legends, the football factory downstairs. I watched Liverpool in a strange surroundings for me. It was more Fulham fans there than there were Liverpool fans. Well, you are in the U.S.. Yeah, you are in full America. And then I watched Leeds and wolves afterwards. And, you know, the chance of yorkshireman or exiled Yorkshire man from the basement of a building in right beneath the Empire State Building the chance of USA USA had an interesting ring to them. It was a fun game as well. And yeah, it was a good weekend. I'm here drinking Tino and I'm invigorated to talk about it because there seems like there's things now, things continue to happen in the transfer market. We'll try and pick up on some of the moving pieces as we go. But there is things to talk about from the weekend and perhaps the first game we go to, there may be apologies to be made. Oh my God, you are a monster. We'll get to that in a moment. I should say a little bit later in this podcast for MLS fans out there. We'll talk a little bit. I've got a couple of things as we hit the MLS all star break. Okay. So there were a couple of things that I wanted to mention, but before that, we're going to go through, obviously, this was week one back in the Premier League. So that's kind of going to be where our main focus is today. And a lot of interesting things happen. But we'll go right to what you're referencing as Brighton go into Old Trafford and they come out victorious. Two one. This was after they beat Manchester United four zero last year, did they not? They destroyed them towards the end of the season, but they had never in their long and pretty storied history. They'd never gone to Old Trafford and won. And they did it on the opening day of the first game of the tenure. A very ten hag. This was his boat as bad as it can get, I think. Well, I don't know about that. It could be worse. It happens again and again. If they had lost four nil. Momentum sucked out of this one. You have to put this in contact. Context. And I know the refrain is, this is Manchester united, we're talking about air, understand all that. I understand that the size of the football club, Brighton and hall of Abbey and as good as grandpa is as good as they are, they completely suck the window to the sales of Manchester United's pre season in one felts and they're our first crisis club at the season. You're laughing. You have to see the reaction. Unbelievably reaction. So before we get to what you're referring to, I just want to talk about kind of like a little bit of the nuts and bolts from the game. And look, for all the bad things that we say that we're going to say about united from this one, I don't want to ignore the fact that Brighton did their job and they were very good. I'm just going to put that out there first and foremost because that needs to be said, especially the way this game started. It's interesting, JJ, because I was reading an interview with Christian Eriksen a couple of weeks ago. And he said that one of the pieces of advice that he gave when he got to united was that teams feel like they can get to them immediately. Like right off like the opening kick of the game and Christian Eriksen once did that for Tottenham. So he had a unique perspective on it. And sure enough, 14 seconds into the start of the new season, was at Pascal gross, who had a chance that went just wide of David de Gea. I mean, it was right out of the gate and it was this interesting to me that this thing that felt like it had been emphasized of starting strong right away. We were seeing the opposite and we were seeing kind of the old version of united. So that worried me almost instantly. Now you could say, generally speaking, united started quite brightly. But that ebbed away really, really quickly. And once Brighton got into their pattern of passing and moving the ball, which is essentially what united couldn't do. United couldn't link the front players, the ericksons, the Sancho's with the ball. From the midfielder the defense. And Brighton, like Brighton put together moves that united could only have dreamt of in that first half. They said, you know, in and around the 15 minutes on to the end of the first half. And it was the contrast between a team that has been so well drilled and has a very clear style of play. And the opposite of Manchester United was was dark and for all the nonsense I was talking about how I felt good about the pre season ten hag had with the players. That kind of just evaporated really quickly. Well, I don't know that I would necessarily call it nonsense. I mean, you weren't, it's okay to have felt good about it. It was wrong because it was reading too much into pre season. And not really looking at the team and saying, all right, this is good performance and pre season, but the component in parrots to execute what ten hag wants to do are just not there. So again, we'll get to the ten hog part. The goals that were scored by Brighton. I wanted to talk about them for a sec. The first one, JJ. I mean, obviously a lot happened after this, but the ease with which the ball was taken off, Scott mctominay, in midfield, was frightening. That's as bad a midfield performance overall as I've seen from any player at the top level. In a long time. And what made it even more worrisome was that the guy who took the ball off of the moist casado 20 year old and a player who reportedly was on United's radar. But then they just kind of moved on. And I don't know, I mean, look, the MO on them in terms of signings over the past, I mean, probably post Ferguson, really. You could go back the entire length of that era.

"Bradley? Yeah, it was a better dressed, one has to say. But yeah, it was a stunning. Two nil down at home and playing at that point, being overrun by a team with a manager who you sort of feel like that lasers and a bunch of people in the stands are thinking, why didn't we bring in grand Potter? I mean, what a miserable, miserable, lonely place that must have been to be at the side of that spectacle. God, this big bull cranium filled only with fight or flight, and I kept hearing David Byrne's voice singing and you may ask yourself, my God, what have I done? I mean, this was same as it ever was. Same as it ever was, and what was worse about this opening gambit was we've been told that ten hag was a brilliant tactical mind. But that pressing was as bad as it was under Ole anor agnate rashford remains a shell of himself a player on the dele Ali. Dan would trajectory. Defending remained ramshackle, it was all. It was also emperor has no clothes, even those poor Smiths couldn't hide ten hogs exposed nudity. You know, some of the excitement about rashford and Sancho during preseason are suddenly dissipated and they didn't really look so strong in that game, you know, we haven't even mentioned Christian Eriksen who I thought looked decent at times, but it just overshadowed by what does feel like dead weight, dead wood, all around him in that squad. It is a collective problem. It's a problem we've seen of so many of post Cyrillic predecessors for ten hog, which is no leadership amidst the chaos. When dark moments happen on the field, all the players just prefer to hide, put the heads down, desperately hope not to be noticed and become the main skeet route because they never manager will be the lightning rod for criticism and ten hog who, before kick-off had arrived to a delirious crescendo of applause, exited to first half booze, it was an astonishing and astonishing just turn around the fate and reality and human darkness he had to get Ronaldo weapon running, booed him. He was booed by some united fans a dude, ten I'll probably lose in this moment to have to rely on Ronaldo, but my God, we were already in a horse a horse, my kingdom for a horse territory on came Ron Ron, replacing Fred, but only after posing at the front of the dig out shirtless. Here I come to save the day, but first, my abs, this messy half apps like these, I don't think so. And then when he trotted, when he trotted on David, do you think he was probably the happiest person in Old Trafford to have his team two nil down without him, they need me. Yeah, without a doubt. I mean, I think we said on do it live last week that you have with trying to figure out what's going to happen in the Ronaldo situation is there's almost certainly going to be a moment at the weekend when they're going to be trailing against Brighton and ten hall's going to look down the bench and he's going to call on Ronaldo of course he does. I think we only said trailing by one goal and they were trailing by two. But yeah, for Ronaldo, he is seeing the Ronaldo movie. There are now legend, the Ronaldo retrospective at that point. And he's thinking, I'm going to come on a score a hat trick. And the united were gifted away back into the game via slop slapsticks Sanchez flailing mcallister goal to one Old Trafford believed again, but honestly, it's kind of incredible this just brightens last ten minute drill to kill off the game. Ten hog through on three attackers, I think, at the death. And the imbalance in their team that resulted meant they never or barely touched the ball again. The game deteriorated just the energy, just bled out of the stadium. I think you united fans in the south stand even had a series of fistfights between themselves, which was honestly just so bloody sad to witness that club has become a Greek gardens and the hapless American ownership, but we've got to we've got a credit all hail brighten and who value seems to happen again. They lose we will talk later about cooker a and what a great player here is and they've lost him one of their great finds of last season. And then they're just playing seamless football, getting performances out of a mixture of players that other teams weren't looking at and like a guy like Danny Welbeck, who wells was just fantastic throughout this game Pascal gross, those goals. Like just front to back what a performance by this team and a coaching masterclass from Graham Potter. We always say, listen to our podcast, Brian and who will be never played two teams at once, man. But I'm so happy for the bloody seagulls. They begin their 6 excessive top flight season with a historic win. They never went in the city of Manchester before Davis. This was their first victory at Old Trafford and remember little speca and just swaggered into Old Trafford emerged with the points and I love Graham Potter's post match quip, the collective idea is more important than any individual. Which brings us to united for ten hog, we are already at the give him time, give him money, give him multiple transfer windows stage of the process and the terrifying reality for me, as I said, was just how much this united was like rang next analyze. And if Potter is right about collective ideas being important, we sold little glimpse of ten hogs collective ideas Dave, they wrote. Yeah, I'm gonna let you feel like it all has to get worse before it gets better, but it will be masked over again because they have some very, very good players and they'll manage to eke out points, but there's still no collective culture in this team. There's no, there's very little team identity. And this is a long project for ten hug, a very, very long project. I would resist the urge to write him off ten hog, but it has to be said he cut a noticeably more confused and bewildered figure postgame calling it a real disappointment, suddenly face to face with the enormous set of challenges he faces at, that would worm devoured defense, the lack of a center midfield pairing, the transfer mess of no Frankie de Jong and the club suddenly leaping for anyone available like Juventus midfielder Adrian ravioli fill it and support replace Ronaldo Ronaldo Ronaldo this season could get so ugly for the glazers. How united fans would kill for Keira Walsh Lucy bronze and Alicia Russo in this united team? Okay, roger Crystal Palace nil arsenal two goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Abu khaya saka cross turned into the net by Mark gay, bookended a tough for London Derby. It may not have been the demolition job gunners fans dreamed of after their preseason.

Markets are now bracing for another 75 basis .8 hike from the fed next month and you can blame it very clearly on that super strong U.S. jobs report from last Friday. We had a spike in yields across the US Treasury curve a two year now at three 23 a ten year at 2.82%. So we do remain inverted. Nonetheless, I mean, with that move up in rates, we're going to have a little bit of a challenge for equities in the apac region. We do have a stronger dollar as a result of those higher yields. The Bloomberg dollar spot index was up 6 ten to 1% in New York on Friday and we are building on those gains right now. The end quite a bit weaker, we were down in New York trading Friday by one and a half percent against the greenback right now trading one 35 15 thereabouts as we get set for trading in Asia stock

"Is the bill that waited for senators Joe Manchin and kyrsten sinema to sign off in the end a lot of ground. So let's get into it joining us live as Bloomberg tax reporter Laura Davison Laura, thank you so much for joining us. Let's start with inflation and taxes. Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer says it reduces inflation. How? Well, you know, senator Schumer said that, but all of the estimates that economists have done said it really actually does little to nothing about inflation. The reason they called it the inflation reduction act is that is something that Democrats are really worried about going into the midterms. Which are in November. So this is sort of an interesting thing. This is very key for Joe Manchin who was one of the crucial senators that moderate who they weren't sure if they were going to sign on to the bill. He did, but in terms of inflation not expecting to see any bump in the short term and in the long term, it's just a couple of tenths of a percent that this would shave off inflation. But on taxes, there's a lot there. Corporations may get some restrictions personally though the top 1% pretty much escaped, didn't they? Am I reading that correctly? Yeah, so yeah, so wealthy Americans did very well in this bill, initially when Biden first trotted this out over a year ago, there were a bunch of different rate increases on individuals both from income to capital gains, looking at inheritance taxes. All of those got cut at various stages in the process and really all the taxes are focused on corporations. There's two major pieces there. One, which is a minimum tax. A 15% minimum tax for all U.S. corporations, some have the corporate rate in the U.S. is 21%, but a lot of companies pay a lot less than that because of different deductions and credits. The other is this buyback tax that they 1% excise tax on corporate buybacks. So curious to see how that plays out, that doesn't go into effect until the start of next year. So we could see a flurry of buybacks in the U.S. until that tax goes into effect. Of course, President Biden, the thrust that he was making through this was he has pushed behind climate change. The goal is to cut gas emissions by about 40% from 2005 levels by the end of the decade. What does it do? How does it do that? Yeah, so there's several $100 billion of investments into all sorts of new incentives for green technology. So there's a greatly increased electric vehicle credit for American consumers as well as a bunch of different credits for different types of renewable energy. What's notable in this bill though is that there's also some incentives for fossil fuels as well. Again, this all goes back to Joe Manchin, who was one of the senators who helped cut this deal. He is from West Virginia a state that is very dependent on coal and natural gas. And so you see that reflected in the overall Bill? Yes. And there's going to be some controversy regarding the electric vehicles because they expanded the number of carmakers, but they also put limitations on what cars and what people actually will be eligible for it. Yeah, there's limits both on kind of the income that people that consumers can use to buy at income. There are limits on the cost of the car and also restrictions that different elements of the car need to be American made. Some EV makers, including GM and Toyota. In the run up to the passage of this bill complained and said, hey, these are actually two restricted and we're not going to be able to source all of our products and meet the requirements for this. And it's yet to be see if that was actually true if they're able to change some of their supply chain issues and be able to qualify for the credits. But this is something that was very important to a lot of Senate Democrats, particularly those that represent the car industry in Michigan. And I hate to do this to you. We have about 30 seconds left. We need to touch briefly on Medicare on negotiation of drug prices. This major this is huge. This is the first time that Medicare can negotiate with drug companies. It's something that Congress has wanted to do for a long time, but that just hasn't had the right mix of political realities happening. So a lot of people are very happy. This is finally gotten done. All right, Laura, you're awesome. Thank you so much for your help. That is a Bloomberg tax reporter. Laura Davison. In San Francisco, I'm Ed Baxter. This is Bloomberg. Brian.
