November the first all right big doings tomorrow the big doings all around really the spore athletic department university members talking all things Tigers is our friend Jeff right well Jeff morning how's it going Hey at three thirty five with the minimum wage when I started working I believe in either early eighty nine or later eighty eight at the old very clean and all of them yeah that was the same for me Kay bee toys in hickory at all they didn't change that minimum wage for a long time father had fifteen dollar minimum wage ran out of an item in a manner Marty database you have been a man and everybody would get like blizzards probably twice as high that's awesome that's SO bards reverie body all right so all right big doings tomorrow it's it's it it's a day of tiger says starting down on Beale street just after sunrise yeah and in just over twenty four hours the bubble go on the air for ESPN game day from eight until eleven actually in ten hours of in a little while left the error yeah a little over two hours ago the it opens up and usually leads for your students go to people been out all night but the the primitive front row the most visible part of it but I think you know we wish the records they they estimate about four thousand down there I honestly think it's gonna be a lot more I think that place is going to be just had the thing it's gonna look great on TV and they would have ever thought you know I was born and raised here born in seventy two you ever thought that we would be the center for auto it maybe one day only but we are going to be the center of all college football Friday amazing yeah it's it's incredible and all star you know everything starts with the revolution Jeff yeah ten years ago coming off you know unfortunately what or muscle reporter but even the year before that we won five games in three years he would have ever thought ten years later you have not only game day bye the prime time being on ABC given the lay out of a month these days we can actually win five gay games in a month now Ames rolling all right so that so eight until eleven o'clock in the morning tomorrow and then we get back to the gate we turn our attention to the liberty bowl we have pre game of course at four thirty what time is that tiger walk tomorrow night or what should be a four on there four thirty right around four o'clock but I'll be I'll tell you this and this goes for people that don't get their RB tidewater didn't to Morrow not the day if you're if you're a first time attendee or you're kind of a casual family goes the game every now and then tomorrow's not the day to plan on getting there but the clock and thinking you're gonna be in your seat at six thirty you know right now I don't care how good or how bad traffic control was you're gonna need to get there early so at least plan on getting there five forty five five thirty to get your seat on time you want to place on hold when we go on TV yeah I'll absolutely absolutely and of course the kick off is at six thirty for tomorrow against SMU we come in as the lower ranked team in destin but it in this case the defense is played really really well at home we had some street that's it from the last couple weeks but really the liberty bowl has been a fortress this year and I think we've only lost three games in or about that whole not to jinx anything but if it got been pretty amazing humble man who had a lot of people from my doorbell has been here at the top there the right tire rack up for half point favorites will be out at that place out tomorrow night it'll be a challenge to be of a very a good game that the neat thing is Mike Norvell we talked to him yesterday in our our broadcast beating you is that like an old school coach you selling his team to completely ignore everything that's going on obviously the game is this business that they're they're preparing to win the game but eight eight college essays like well I want you know you signed up by college football to be this type of environment we may never get this again that could be a one of a lifetime certainly if you're a football player probably a what's been your for your career especially at an American school that you're ever going to be in this environment ABC primetime game that you want them to enjoy take it all in this week but also be you know focus on the game sure sure and then and then kick off will be six thirty now last night yeah they are they crowned the a regular season American athletic conference women's soccer champion yeah this woman finish it off you know even the even though they only lost in the head one drawl all the the call came down to needing a result laughs like the clutch the the the home field advantage to which what that means because they don't have to play a first round game weapons outboard a happy top two seeds so though three three six by a first round game of the homes like that in the semis come back like next Thursday overall the Park Avenue campus and then the finals would be on Sunday now the men play a big match tonight they're playing top ten you see up in Orlando but that is not off the top ten teams on the road this year if not to sweat that match tonight they move in the first place one whole match remaining with South Florida you could potentially be hosting both part of the wow well I got to be a top ten team on the road at the tall order but it it it's hanging out there I think your you know here they lose and I'd like to speak out for the whole next week up into the garden you double labor Robert from already which be great do you recall I know you've got a lot of football your mind right now do you recall when that man's home finals gonna me final regular season game probably gonna be it isn't a midweek match maybe I think it's whatever were playing basketball next week Tuesday run out network the basketball games of later thanks to the park Avenue campus within the hour if they at the if they don't get a top you stated they would house the first round game if they're the third or the fourth place team next Saturday over and we don't have football like Saturday so you want watch and then play it oh wow okay so a ton going on and last I heard if there were any tickets they were really just no more than a handful left foot yeah I got a map last night there's got only be around a thousand there on the believe the press box by upper crust blocks so you know first off what's going to sell out in but before I forget this morning if you're out and about and you want to watch something a little bit different in conference the soap in a cross country championships starting the men's race attend the women's right that ten fifty at at Shelby farms on the the Mollen station side to go up there and you can watch amidst all ran in court yesterday a little sloppy in places where the writing but for the most part it's been in pretty good shape think about what your Tigers then are there some a leaf all American level runners in American conference if you want to come out this morning but but layer up let layer up and just find a parking space for all the three point one window stickers are right right for tomorrow morning downtown but I wouldn't I would encourage everyone he didn't go down there tomorrow I know I know the the the the young people and everything will be in the pet but any and you can watch it on TV by I think this weekend and Margie not a water column in the paper today it's it's much more than about the Tigers in the university it since but she had a chance over the last ten years using the city make a comeback you can look a lot of cold it's kind of a hip new cool place for bird the younger generation to move to I think Mathis is making a big comeback in order to just be another nice little carried out there for a national audience the were Memphis is swinging back to you as a.

I don't know what else there is to learn about the event we know who did it we know why they did it we know the results of it we know where it came from we know how the plot was hatched we knew who missed what. everybody wants to Monday morning quarterback even all these years later well reality is what it is. I found this piece of audio these a couple of the marines right one of was based in San Diego one of them was at Parris island they were going for the basic training back back in September eleventh two thousand one and daily caller put this out and described. these guys is how this was a life changing moment it really was for a lot of this it is certainly changed our perspective but I don't know if it was necessarily life changing for an individual or didn't lose a family member didn't have a family member in the military at the time most of us what about our lives with just a maybe a more jaded and cynical lie maybe a little more concerned about what may be coming next at the one thing I remember hearing about people saying was the the day after is always waiting for the shoe to drop when's the next you gonna drop when is the next attack gonna happen and we've actually been pretty lucky on that as far as that's concerned although I do have a story I got to relate to you that in two thousand six. in an interview with the Attorney General of the United States I have to relate that to you. here in just a couple seconds but this audio these are these are two marines who were going through basic training on September eleventh and here's their perspective now I'll never forget being a recruit training when when nine eleven occurred. you're all seed in in a box in a inside the Thunderdome and that's when the chapel.

Really feel like making phone calls right now talking to anybody six o'clock, but hey, by eight o'clock. People are ready to talk. I want to hear from seven marines story in the Washington Post, it's an anti military anti marine story. The Marine Corps punished at least eight drill instructors and some officers in response to allegations of hazing. This is at Parris island, South Carolina. I've listened, I'm reading this story. I'm trying to find. Okay. Well jeeze if punish these guys must be terrible. What, what do they do? He's documents detailing the investigations were released to the post through the freedom of information act. Well, let's read this Bitta journalism showy. Because in the words that Trump, this is a beauty. In a handwritten statement, one recruit recalled that she so this is a female marine recruit. I guess this is in basic training, right? Are you still considered a recruiting basic training? I'm guessing so I don't know how it works. God, love you guys. I I've just never done this before. So you know what I know I've learned from you guys. Then a handwritten statement the recruit recalled that she tried to tell other recruits to slow down while they were moving in formation. Which upset the drill instructor. So I'm guessing this recruit was so out of shape or whatever. That because she couldn't step it up. She encouraged everybody else to slow it down. This upset the senior drill instructor later that night. The senior drill instructor found that the recruit found the recruit on a bathroom bench writing to a former reserve officer training corps instructor about the incident. The re the recruit told an investigating officer later that the instructor confiscated several letters that she was writing. At asked other a cruise the next day whether they would also say that she had abused them. So we're talking about a female senior drill instructor and a female recruit. I'm looking at all of these incidents of so-called hazing and from everything. I'm reading in the Washington Post, they all have to do with female recruits. And in a couple instances female drill. Instructors, one recruit interviewed reported that she and three other marines were forced to go through a chamber that introduces recruits to CS gas. What a CS gas, C S gas. Anyway, it's a part of the drill. She was forced to go through a chamber that introduces recruits to see us gas twice within minutes during training instead of once as typically required. So the drove structure said go through it again. And she complained about that. I'm looking at all of these complaints..

"We must and will do better NPR's Pentagon. Correspondent Tom Bowman joins us. Now. Welcome to the studio. Tom, let's start with those numbers. What does the report tell us about the prevalence of sexual assault? Pentagon officials are calling this a significant increase last year. The Pentagon says some twenty thousand servicemembers of that about thirteen thousand women seventy five hundred men experience some type of sexual assault. But only one third of those filed a report now that twenty thousand figure Audie is thirty seven percent. Higher than two years ago in most of the assaults were told having a servicemembers seventeen to twenty four usually at the hands of a friend or acquaintance in the majority of these assaults occur at a military facility or on board ship. How does that break down across individuals ervices? Well, the army saw an eighteen percent increase in two thousand eighteen over two thousand sixteen. The navy seven percent increase air force four percent increase, but get this Audie the Marine Corps. The biggest spike twenty three percent increase. Come back to that in a moment. But what our military leaders saying about this overall? They say they're disheartened they're angry. They have all these training programs going on in more announced today, but it continues to be a problem. One officials said responsibility for eliminating this crime from the military lies with leadership is what they often say no the marines as we have the highest increase in salts twenty three percent and the top marine officer general Robert niller said in. Statement the marines have to come up with more prevention methods in also must continue he said to foster a culture of dignity and respect. But was there any sense of the reason why the marines would see such a high increase compared to the other services? You know, we don't know for sure, but some are pointing to the fact that the marines have the smallest percentage of women in the fours roughly nine percent or so and that's about half the number of the other services in there. Also, the only service that separates men and women in boot camp. So I spoke with Marine Lieutenant Colonel k Germano. She ran the female only battalion at Parris island, recruit depot, she thinks it separating men and women is not a good idea in the women recruit. She said are not required to do the same physical tests as the men she said that sends the wrong message. Let's listen, very easy to humanize women marine and make them the other by saying there is a less value for them because they don't train the. Same way. They don't earn the title of marine the same way as an eloquent to know, the marines or considering having men and women trained together at bootcamp, maybe next year, they did have one coed training company this year. It did quite well, the marine say time you've been reporting on this for a long time. What struck you about this report what you know, one thing that jumped out already in the report it said the odds of experiencing sexual assault were higher in units with the prevalence of sexual harassment or gender discrimination or workplace hostility. So they know which unit to having problems, they know, which leaders are having problems. So my question is why aren't they holding these leaders accountable either counseling them or getting rid of him? You know, what the Pentagon isn't saying? That's NPR's. Tom Bowman Tom. Thank you. You're welcome. The prospect of designer babies is on the agenda this week at the American society of gene and cell therapy. Leaders of this society are joining calls for a moratorium on engineering if human embryos that could grow into babies this move follows a widely criticised experiment in China last year that apparently produced children with edited genomes the concern is in part ethical. But as NPR's Richard Harris reports, my all is probably couldn't produced enhanced human beings. Even if they wanted to the idea of a designer baby stems from the idea that our genes can be tweaked to produce superior people. That's based on an outdated idea that desirable traits are governed by just a few genes. Biologists have dismissed that idea certainly for traits like intelligence athleticism duty comedian, John Cleese even made fun of this idea in video skit a decade ago. He points to a chart that supposedly shows the location of the God, gene, which gives..

"So you had just your average normal individual. Okay. Cool. How long have y'all been married? Fourteen years. Okay. Question. No trouble. So what happened twelve months ago that lit this fuse well story with you actually started about eight years ago when we initially had some some issues young Mary couple mates and dumb decisions financially. I had a house foreclosed on in two thousand eleven time period. We went through that entire ordeal, months and months of trying to go back and forth for the Bank until we finally completed the foreclosure process, and it devastated, it, it was really it was it was tough on a young family with two kids at the time. And luckily, the church that we were attending at the time. They provided financial peace January. So we decided we were tired of living the way we were. So we went ahead and took the course loved it got some some initial feedback and positive results. But then we kinda ish way through the next five or so years, and that's kind of where the the real story picked up. So last January he forgot to mention he's in the Marine Corps. We had new orders. We were two new duty station four kids now and last January twelve months ago, we were on the couch bedtime flipping through our phones watching TV and your Ramsey solutions. Nashville townhall came on Facebook live event. So we were like oh day. We remember him. And so we started watching it again. And we started communicating with each other. What we wanted our goals and plans to be he's coming up on retiring from the Marine Corps. What's our goals with our planet? And we realized we had nothing we had no money in savings plan. And so from that night on we hit the ground running while while. Yeah. So you drug out the financial piece materials. Bookshelves and discount right back to work. And we were determined to do it for real this time. No, more issuing. Okay. That's good. Well, thank you for your service. Appreciate that. And congratulations you guys. So who was your biggest cheerleader then outside the two of you? Well, we had a lot of cheerleaders in the family. This kind of interesting for me halfway point. He probably doesn't realize it Chris HOGAN. To be one of my cheerleaders. So stationed at Parris island, South Carolina, where they recruit training Tiffin's for the Marine Corps on the east coast. Chris actually came out to an event with a bunch of other civilian individuals last year last summer time, I remember so I got to meet Chris and talk to a few minutes and that was again that's about halfway through our current differ journey. Cody much story gave me the momentum theorem coin and just kind of reinvigorated my passionate desire for this. So I've had that coin on my desk ever since. And it's just been a daily reminder that, you know, making sure that you're intentional in everything you do. But making sure that you rely on God, it really, you know, multiply what you do. It has kind of kept me on track. Cool cool. No he walked through here while ago, you'll talk to him too good because I saw him out there wandering around. I didn't know if you got a hold of them. Good. Good. Good. Very cool. Well, congratulations. You guys that is neat that you know, that coin land there and go, okay? I got this is a good visual reminder. Sometimes there's a nice little like when people put their thermometer on the refrigerator door whenever they're working their way up or down or whatever it is. They're doing some kind of a.
Marines Mix Male, Female Training Battalions for First Time Ever
"Is now training men and women together for the first time ever the corridor. Seeing that one of the battalions at recruit depot, Parris island in South Carolina, began integrating a female platoon and a male platoon over the weekend. A platoon of about fifty women will live at the barracks with a male platoon, but we'll still be led by female drill. Instructors the marines, noting the change is not permanent. But they're standing by to see how the integrated training pans out. The Marine Corps is the only military branch that separates women for men during training. And US

"Sirius XM channel eighty five. The hi hater show would be a case sometimes constitu. All right. Let's go out to the phone lines. We got Dave in Texas. What's up? Dave. Hey, so John I venture blog today about obviously about like the gender thing. It'd be Kip. And I was just really kind of wondering at least sports, you know, we go through the training, and obviously like the whole part of like brainwashing. And and you know, taking personal responsibility personal responsibility the team just like how how does that? Like, I think that when you do. So like this it's going to invalidate some points of maybe training purposes in terms of like the way. Like, it are they gonna have like female Jewish doctors with all right? Hold on. Hold on. Let me let me set up from the listeners who might not have read the blog today. So today's the first time in Marine Corps history that there will be a company of marines are battalion of marines that are training together, both female and male traditionally males and females at Marine Corps boot camp on Parris island have trained differently. There's been three battalions of marines for a second and third. Fourth battalion has been females now there will be a platoon of females within a company of third battalion on Parris island. I wrote a blog in favor of it. I think it's fine. Dave, you seem like you disagreed. You wanna say why you disagree? I disagree from the aspect of the more of the training perspective. Okay. So all obviously, like, we're we're built on a team when you get the MCAT or if you go to east coast, west coast best goes, but it's it's just I think that. We integrate stuff like so I read it. But is it just going to be a platoon within a company like it's not going to be a mixed platoon? Is that correct? Yes, right now that the initial training is there's going to be five male platoons and one female tune within that company. Okay. So then I'm I must have misread it. But what the same standards? I think within the company how like how overlay in terms of like delay that male drill. Instructors going to treat female recruits at female, drove truckers streak, male recruits. I think that's gonna potentially like crossover and caused some problems also when you have any male, recruits and female recruits in these same like the Senate like there's like they're gonna get caught fucking like that's like like you supposed to fucking the schoolhouse kids out like invade p for fucking the schoolhouse. I just think that's inevitable. Fact, I think that could possibly to take away from like the affec-. Of the training. If you find Kate I'll let you talk and just like, you wanna you wanna address that because you are female marine, you you actually go. Well, so again when? Address the first thing I think they're going to have extensive training on it, whichever drill. Instructors are gonna take this over. I think they're going to be well versed in it. And anything you say beforehand is just completely subjective. You have no idea how it's going to be and how it's going to be conducted. So that's all hearsay and easy to get like riled up about or whatever not that. You are. I'm just saying and then as for the having sex like, oh, if they they meet they're going to have sex. Okay. I my thought is if they do so what they shouldn't. But every now and then people do, but it takes two to Tango. And second of all I don't again, it's one of those things like chipset earlier out of the whole percentage of people who would very small, but that's what gets blown up, and it's made a huge thing of. I think. Yeah. My point on the sex thing. It's like we forget what boot camp is like you don't have the not just fucking hanging out there..
