"The capital beltway where you're only slow spot is still on the envelope after river road where blazer sorting out a crash that was along the right side that drew liar to attention between the cabin John Parkland river road, Merrill and I two 70 95 BW Parkway you're good, hello volume along the north side of the Parkway through green belt and Laurel, but that's it. Route 50 good and both directions both inside and outside the beltway as still at a great pace to it across the bay bridge three lanes west and two lanes east crossed bay for now, sent over to Virginia, quiet along 66, three 95 volumes, eased down. Quite a bit had it north toward the inbound 14th street bridge. We had a crash last hour near boundary channel. That was clear from the right side, and the delays are just about gone. I 95 Virginia sign we had some volume delays in separate stretches all along the southbound side, they're knowing to again through parts of lord and woodbridge and maybe a brief slow spot through doctors as well. The crash after the fairfax county Parkway, that was cleared from the right lane. You're good on the northbound side on the Virginia side of I 95 and through the district, good on the freeway in both directions, had some volumes on the two 95s, had some volume on the two 95s what I wanted to say. North before and after Pennsylvania avenue and south from Burroughs to east capital street, the ram from I two 95 north is currently shut down at the suitland Parkway for a work zone, and the place I activity is still there in northeast, shutting down the intersection of 7th and 8th streets so follow their direction through for the time being. "Off and you go straight to the Mississippi River and natchez and it's just like the sunsets are unreal. So that is my favorite spot for a view along the trace. One thing that makes you laugh and say only on the natchez trace per queen. I will say the most surprising thing to me is when we went to this town of Clinton Mississippi because everyone, including the mayor, just travels around by golf cart. So you're in this community off the trace, which you are looking at some of the most historically significant lands for the choctaw chip that saw and natchez Indians and then you're driving through this town of Clinton, Mississippi, and everyone is riding around in golf cart waving at you. And it seems like everyone there knows when you're from out of town because they stop and talk to you. And I'm like, I'm from Tennessee. I'm not even from that far away, but it's like you're walking around with a big signpost on you saying, I'm a traveler in the not just trace and they want you to have the best time ever there. I wasn't expecting to go to this cute little Main Street area and have everyone driving around the cobblestone ways by golf cart so that did make me laugh. Excellent. And if you had to summarize the experience of driving the matches trace in three words, what three words would you use? I had to summarize the trace in three words. I would say it is expansive. Surprising and transformative. Excellent. Our guest again has been Kristen Luna from camels and chocolate dot com. I have to ask, why camels and chocolate? I like camels and I like chocolate, but why camels and chocolate dot com? I don't know that I've ever asked you this. Yeah, so I started my blog in 2007 before there was a concept of SEO. "I did document it mile by mile, only because I couldn't find a lot of sites that just listed the highlights when I was doing it. There are a ton of places you can stop over on the trace, but not necessarily all of them are going to be interesting to travelers because it is a very storied by way that has been around long before modern day travelers. So there's so much history there, but not everything is going to be something you want to stop and see. So if you do want the mile marker itinerary, I do have it on my blog. Also, the natchez trace Parkway, there's a great website for that. It's scenic trace dot com. And then the National Park Service has a ton of information on their website, which I used when creating my itineraries. Excellent. Anything else we want to say before we get to some of our wrap up questions. I guess there didn't really talk about the food. Okay. I just made note of the questions that you normally ask. And what should you eat along the trace? This part of the south is very heavy in meat and three culture, which is usually a meat and three sides. So you'll find that and you'll find soul food at a lot of the stops along the way. If you're vegetarian, you might want to bring snacks 'cause we are very heavy in the meat and breeze here in the south. Same if you have any dietary restrictions, you are going to have to do a little bit more advanced planning because not so many vegetarian and gluten free options as you might be used to if you're coming from a coastal area. You could just eat the N three. You can just eat the even just live on a diet of macaroni and cheese. I won't judge. I think I just had that for dinner, so I'm glad you're not touching on that. It was good macaroni and cheese. Homemade stuff, not the box stuff, just so for the record. If you're standing in the prettiest spot in the natural trace Parkway, where are you standing at? What are you looking at, Kristen?

"The shooting show the gunman was able to get close to Abe. A man was immediately arrested and is being questioned. It's 7 18. Back to Rita Kessler now on the traffic center. Well, we have a little bit more information on the Baltimore Washington Parkway. This is southbound on the Baltimore Washington Parkway on year two O two, all lanes reportedly stopped for the crash, so nobody moving on the southbound Baltimore Washington Parkway in the delay is already before the good luck road overpass after the beltway. You may want to try and find another way to work your way around, not quite sure how long this closure is going to remain in place, but inbound 50 already slow from four ten off and on making your way toward New York avenue. Now no longer seeing any delays on inbound New York avenue, southbound D.C. two 95 not a bad trip either just a little bit of volume from betting past these capital street, saying some volume also getting across the inbound 11th street bridge, then delays before south capital street headed toward the case bridge, inbound on the suitland Parkway, the delay takes you from branch, avenue headed to the light at Stanton road with nothing reported in the roadway. Beltway delays, inner lip slows after branch avenue headed toward the Woodrow Wilson bridge, outer loop delays from 50 past four 50, then on the top side from New Hampshire avenue toward 29 colesville road, southbound two 70 dispersed, slows from democracy boulevard and the outer loop of the beltway to the point where they merged together after that it looks good headed across the American legion bridge if you're in Virginia on 66, slow down to eastbound passing two 34 business approaching Centreville, passing route 50 and approaching the beltway. It is northbound 28 that remains in a crawl before manassas drive, headed all the way to Compton and ordway as a result because of an earlier wreck that had been after Yorkshire lane that may be cleared northbound on ordway road that is also crawling before Yorkshire lane. Trying to head to the intersection with 28, so that's not a good alternate for that 28 delay. Northbound 95 heavy deal city into woodbridge that it looks good crossing the octagon in the Springfield. Gas prices are high. So ride Amtrak and travel without breaking your budget, book in advance and save up to 50% at Amtrak dot com, restrictions and exclusions apply. I'm Rita Kessler, WTO P traffic. Tragic Parade Was Not the Only July 4th Weekend Shooting in Illinois
"We're going to lead this program today with some unfortunate news out of highland park Illinois right down the street where I grew up, by the way. Terrible shooting yesterday in highland park seems as if 6 people are dead. And over 30 people are injured, highland park is in the north shore of Chicago. I grew up in wheeling Illinois, not far from there at all. It was at a July 4th parade where this individual we're not going to use his name, gets on a rooftop and starts shooting into the crowd. Now that's a tragedy, and it should be considered a tragedy. Inexplicably. We're not going to politicize it. The other side is trying to politicize it. They're trying to say, oh, this guy was a Trump supporter. There's no evidence of that. There's also no evidence that he's a far left wing activist. There's evidence that he was very deeply disturbed and used visuals from both sides of the political aisle for what reason we really don't know. But it's important that we add context that we remember all death that happened in Illinois this weekend. We're going to talk about the parade shooting. We're going to talk about what I believe is actually pushing young men towards these sort of violent acts. But also, 71 people were shot and ate fatally in the 4th of July holiday weekend and shootings across the city, Chicago police set. Last year, 19 people were killed and more than a hundred people were shot over the long 4th of July weekend. The toll was lower than last year, when 19 people were killed and more than a hundred people were shot. 9 of the wounded were shot into attacks on the west and south side, four people in the western Garfield park Friday evening, and 5 men in Parkway gardens on the south side and early Monday, so Chicago. Highland park is a suburb of Chicago. 6 dead in a parade, terrible, but in downtown Chicago, 71 shot and 8 killed.

"Ahead in money news. Healthy accolades for Northern Virginia. I'm Jeff claw. 1118. Traffic and weather on the 8s to Rita Kessler in the WTO traffic center. Well, here's yet another update on what's going on in the Baltimore Washington Parkway. This is southbound on the Parkway first. You have your delay from one 75 headed toward 32. This is the work in the left lane. That'll be there till about 3 o'clock this afternoon, so expect that to lay to stick around. However, we also have a delay southbound from the beltway. China head to the good luck road overpass, the good news is they have moved on from the work at the good luck road overpass. But now, southbound, they are at two O two, with a left lane getting you by the cones, and the on ramp from two O two to the southbound Parkway is blocked. They are just basically making their way down the Parkway, doing bridge inspections in all of these spots. So again, expect the delay to grow near two O two, eastbound 32 before Lyndon church road, the crash was along the right side, southbound two 70s still has the slowdowns approaching and passing Montgomery village avenue before three 70, the two right lanes remain blocked with that emergency work, 95 in Maryland and southbound slows from 32 to 16, the crash cleanup remains along the right side. We are seeing a delay northbound after the inner county connector headed toward one 98 keep an eye out for any crash activity, near one 98. In Virginia, it is eastbound 66 after glee broad, the crash was along the right side, still seeing delays on that stretch, the outer loop of the beltway, the through lanes is where you're going to slow headed toward the Wilson bridge, the work in the through lanes takes the right lane, the inner loop backup is back near van dorn street, headed toward 95 and three 95, so keep an eye out for work there. In about 11 street bridge before M street was a report of a wreck, however, the delays that were heading on to the bridge have E so that crash may have moved out of the roadway, northbound D.C. two 95 just some volume passing Pennsylvania avenue. Looks like the work is back on the northbound Baltimore Washington Parkway seeing a delay before powder mill road headed past one 97, this mobile war crew should be in the right lane. We're seeing a delay southbound now coming from one 75 passing 32, not sure if that work crew that have been in the northbound direction turned around in the southbound direction. Also seeing a delay growing on northbound route three coming from route 50 headed toward four 50. This would be four 50 Annapolis road. There may be a crash before Annapolis road on northbound three causing that backup. We also have the delay on the inner loop approaching and passing two 14th central avenue. This is a street sweeping crew. Along the right side. D.C. two 95 northbound watch for the work after benning road before burrows is back up is all the way back to the 11th street bridge. We also still have a major backup on northbound 95 in Virginia, still a little heavy headed past a quiet harbor than solid from Quantico headed all the way past the Prince William Parkway that work should be along the left side. Southbound slows in newington after the fairfax county Parkway the work on the right side, and the inner loop of the beltway is heavy from route 50 heading towards 66 that work also on the right side. Back in Maryland, the North Bethesda area, Josiah Henson Parkway eastbound near east Jefferson street you're under police direction for the crash. "That sounds awesome right excellent. Why kind distracted you there. You're heading down into north carolina. Yeah so north carolina when we get down into north carolina. We're getting into the high country and this for me. Is the most spectacular part of the blue ridge. Parkway we're around boone and banner ill in blowing rock three major with major not in terms of sides but major in terms of popularity and and renowned and there is so much to do in that area but two of our favorite things. There's julian price memorial park. Which has the price lake overlook. There's a lot of great trails going around the lake. there's the boon for trail. There's a waterfall. there's so much to do there and the lake itself is just one of the most. I'm a lake person by nature but it's just one of the prettiest lakes i've ever seen and there's a trail that goes around price lake where you're just kind of going through a tunnel of rhododendron. We did it october so they weren't in bloom at the time but it still kinda feels like going through like a railroad tunnel that formed by these massive plants. And then there's little places every so often that you can kind of move over and you're right on the shore of this gorgeous lake. There's kayaking paddle boarding. There's all sorts of things you can do there but really if you have time to do even part of the trail around the lake at this overlook. I highly recommend it. There's also right next door to this. That will be out because really. That's what they say they during now. So we're gonna go from way. We are now we the trial program in this first phase of home by scorn tain the people who've been vaccinated so we starting to say in this parkway a distinction between people who've been vaccinated and people who haven't the second phase is said to be the first vaccination phase prime minister's suggesting without wanting to put fan timelines on phase. Two will probably be next year and part of the first guys to have the number of inbound travelers so the state and territory latest have been complaining that too many people coming in with the joe to strain. Finding Europe in America
"Says you have to actually go to europe to taste of the old world after all many american and canadian cities and towns were settled by european immigrants. Sometimes they tried to recreate a bit of what the new from the old country. Even if we can't go to europe we can discover benefit prayed here. In our hemisphere samantha. Brown hosts public television travel series places to love where she films from destinations. Both around the world in closer to home. She joins us today on travel. With rick steves to look at some of her favorite places to find a bit of europe. In america samantha. Thanks for joining us. Pleasure to be here rank. Boy know all i do is go to europe again and again and again but i really. There's a lot of europe hiding out here in the united states during covid lockdown times so we can't travel overseas like we'd like to but we can find little knockoffs here in the united states from all around the globe knockoffs because some of them are terrific kind of constructions and others are honest to goodness immigrant communities. That are still the way they were hundred and fifty years ago when they were there were settled just in my state washington. We've got leavenworth which is a famous little german. It's kind of a touristy. Gimmick but poulsbo is originally a norwegian town and its norwegian to this day and we have linden up by the canadian border which is a very dutch was settled by holland immigrants. What are your favorite slices of europe in america. Well one of my favorites is a city that i had gone to my entire life. My family Was brought up right outside of it and then after doing two years of europe came back to and it just hit me like a ton of bricks that this was a european city and that is philadelphia pennsylvania. It is by far the most for me. The most year of paean city in the united states and so then i started like do a deep dive like why is it so it was just a feeling i had like. Wow i just feel like. I'm in europe. And there were so many connections One of the main architects was an emigrant from leon france. He designed the ben. Franklin benjamin franklin parkway which is now. There's the rodin museum. there's the philadelphia museum of art. Which has the largest collection of renoir in the world. Incredible and others rittenhouse square. They're all these not just pockets. Because i think you know there's places we'll talk about today the have pockets but this is a city that is just so of france and the best connection that i love about philadelphia is that it is also it has the most mural arts i think in the world and its sister city is leon so if you ever go to leeann france and the kuala rouge is where you see those phenomenal murals and that art that is available to all end. It's all over the city. That's what the to share so the city a definite of brotherly love is a great. If you want that. European and more specifically french you know kick

"parkway" Discussed on Scoops with Danny Mac
"March twenty twenty so why not be as open and willing to share and to help and to provide the yes avenue versus the no is much to increase participation. Because i'll tell you. I one of the big things that we are struggling with is a lack of participation in our community we have lost quite a few in terms of our percentages and our numbers that we normally can expect so. I think you're right with the patent situation. That coaches recognize. Hey we kind of have to share a little bit if you wanna maintain our programs and be able to be competitive and a lot of areas you know. It's it's easy. And i think one of the great not just mantras but you'll hear successful. Athletes coaches talk about doing a little bit of everything. Don't specialize don't limit yourself. It's easy in theory but it's a lot tougher in in practice. Maybe and and maybe this is. You know forcing folks to adapt and rethink perhaps a little bit coach. Yeah i would agree. And i think that that in general i would say there was probably a period of time about six to eight years ago where everybody was really hard core on the specialization. Kick of a new basketball or seven on seven football or quote unquote getting big for football. And what we've seen is hey first of all like the best athletes and professional sports are multi sport athletes. So why would you go against the grain of the most elite outliers in the sport in go all in on a particular athletic pursuit that may actually in the long term shorten your growth curve and limit your development as opposed to. Hey let's get involved in participate as much as we can have a high school experience. That's robust that can provide a lot of opportunities through not only skill acquisition for multiple sports but maybe potential college scholarships in a sport. You had no idea that you would be great at. And i think that moving forward as a society. We need more participation instead of less and that three sport athlete. I hope can make a resurgence as we're moving forward as we're starting to see like you know the kansas city chiefs that almost every one of those guys ran track in high school. You know and speed kills both on defense on the offensive line. The defensive line. It doesn't matter your position and what better sport to get fast than they actually do. The sport we spent two to three months. Run really really fast. You can get big in the other offseason. You know it's like if you're a ceo. You're not only going to you know. Read books sore Have conversations with people in in your industry and you know my theory coach as to why that happened. I'm interested in your thoughts. I think it's the rise of social media and the ability to get clips specially football basketball on youtube on twitter on instagram..
