"Spies liquor lemon juice and Campari like very robust flavors. I've never seen I've never had like absence. Aquavit in Campari together for instance. But it all works. They do really bold things here and the results are really exciting and great. I Love Maine fell in love with Portland. And if it didn't get cold. Probably try to move there but yeah I'm trying to stay away from Colon Yeah and then if you continued up the coast as you shed because Acadia. National Park is up the coast. There's this lovely little. Seaside town called bar harbour and that's the entry town to Acadia and it's this island towns small city with tons and tons of great independent restaurants and cafes coffee shops bars all of that and unsurprisingly seafood. Is The star here at all of these so much like we didn't get too much time here really sad I would love to. I mean this is the place that it would be kind of buckled down and like hang out for a few days and just Katya back up when it's not cold and like forty degrees good option. Yeah because a lot of the restaurants here are seasonal to which makes sense because it does get so cold and tourism drops off because a lot of Acadia is not accessible in the winter. So you have a lot of like lobster centric restaurants like Stevens lobster pound and Eden lobster and a bunch of others that'll close for. They'll take legal winter break. You know which is nice. Oh Yeah and then there. Was that one coffee shop. Independent Was so great You know because when we are there was forty degrees. It was perfect but they had like sandwiches and other like bakery items and Perfect perfect Little Coffee Shop reminded me of Central Park in friend. Yeah not as like fancy like not advanced. You know there's not like a lounge chair there but it definitely had that like you know the owners. They're you know or you know the main people are there and they're not like trying to be something they're just trying to do. Great Quality Food and coffee. It was really yeah. I HAD BLUEBERRY COFFEE CAKE. Morris again blueberry everything everywhere and I'm all about it and then yeah. Barbers has died with these. Really Nice cosy place like the Chart Room. Just like the best. Like kind of quintessential nautical vibes. It feels like you're in a sailor's I duNno. Shop or something like the Holla ship with like salmon and Macadamia crested halibut. Main like main crabcakes. And then the thirsty whale lively more rustic POB Bob's roles and chowder. And this is where the lobster bisque. I don't think so. No no I remember that lobster says you can get lobster. Bisque almost anywhere. You probably the best roles. But I love a good solid lobster bisque like I forget how much I love it until I go to somewhere like Maine and get some beautiful lobster bisque. Yeah well this is the place to eat and go lobster. Crazy Bar Harbour. Portland the coast. We I mean we have a lot to explore here. I'm still very good a northern Maine and just go back to all of this and I think the beautiful thing here is like showing. That Maine is a lot. More than just lobsters and blueberries. Yeah it is. It's what it's ploys it's diverse outer it's new it's Inventing things in its trying things differently. Just a beautiful place to go and explore all these magnificent foods. I seriously cannot wait to go back but I'm leaving now because I'm hungry. Same you've been listening to park land. "Hi I'm Matt and I'm Brad. This is park land area. And today's episode is about Redwood National and state parks in California so three things that we would bring. You know we definitely you would probably start off with a Kayak for myself at least But we don't own once. I guess I would have to buy one I but just in case there's definitely a lot of different places to rent kayaks from or do tours from so. Don't worry if you don't have a kayak like myself You can definitely get one plenty of options for that and then to go along with that some sort of wet suit or water system layer like we were when we went kayaking. Absolutely choose to water shoes. Yeah because I think that's also important for kayaking and then if you're in certain areas of the park you use it when you go. Tide pooling along the coast which is also granted in and of itself because you can see animals like sea stars and crab seat cucumbers Mussels a whole nother a whole nother ecosystem. Yes and then because when you're done kayaking you're going to need dry socks and shoes right. I didn't do that and I went on a trail afterwards and I was miserable. You are So that's definitely something I've learned from. This trip is to always make sure you have extra clothes to change into especially for doing kayaking. Yeah I try back up and this is one of those parks where within the span of one afternoon or just a full day you can totally different different activities like we did. We went kayaking in the first half of the day and then went right from there to a long hike. So both of those activities require different. Sets of Tyre in specially footwear so have a full backup at. The ready is really helpful as and of course we could bring trekking at the National Parks Board game along with extra friends because you have to have a lot of friends to play that. Don't we love that relies sharing that with friends? And then also this park. If you're in a bar game mood you should bring. We have like a Jurassic Park Board game and what better place to play at the park. Where one of literally filled so just continue with that that theme and speaking of Drastic Barker I. I know that we've talked about that franchise. A lot on this podcast. But I think it's safe to say that Redwood National and state parks is really the episode where it makes the most sense because this is a place that is so unbelievably beautiful about one of the movies. The lost world was literally films here and not only that But this incredible place has been featured in Star Wars NETFLIX MOVIES. And now our family photos. Yeah lots of family photos. It's forever engraved in our most cherished memories and in our DVD collection. Didn't you've been listening to park? "Yes there's a lot there's a lot of love. Gosh Yeah Too. And like you brought me one of these back I WanNa it was something like the summer peach. Yeah I I think that timeline checks out and they also. That was probably late in their strawberry season. So they have. Strawberry Rhubarb is a popular option for them and then later like in like fall. They have Perr Ginger fritters like all of it. I'm on all of it right like right now. I literally just go. You know what we're going to have to find a way to get back to New Mexico in the next couple. I missed that and reminiscing about. It is not helping when we're not there. No it's not helpful at all and then and other place that I loved was Santa has a great. They have a very robust coffee shop scene. They do much to my delight. They have plenty of those. My favorite was this place called sky coffee and it's in the railyard area of which seems to be a very kind of up and coming in like industrial area hip but like that's where like the Rei was and area. You're obsessed with because you're getting those town mountain bars from. Yeah and only I can only get them in areas. So that's what brought me to that. Area was to stock up on energy bars and then I was like Oh. Here's a coffee shop. That looks really cute. So hot in there and it did not disappoint. It's really sunny bright. It looks like kind of a white cottage definitely place that I would just chill out working main computer for a little while which is exactly what I did and they have like wonderful espresso and Cortott does Chai per over coffee. They've come on tap and then they have lots of coffee cake and muffins and they also supply a limited selection of. Who's doughnuts so in case you can't make debate. They were ownership. Yeah and last but not least has probably one of the better views was that rooftop Cantina For Margarita's yes. I was like are fun. Awesome like bar hopping night in downtown Santa Fe and this is the grid casual option. It's very chill lively vibe. Still kind of silence in artsy but like much more laid back I would say and spacious rooftop we were able to like Mosey right up to the edge. Pretty much and just have like a couple of margaritas probably like guacamole chips. Solid foods solid Margaritas. Like nothing too crazy. Fancy it's about the views but then they do have that like Fancy restaurant inside though they do. Yeah which is just right through the doors and I remember just like sitting sitting there chilling. The Sun was setting and it was the most idyllic experience and a great way to cap off just a wonderful dream evening in Santa Fe. Yeah and I cannot get enough of Santa Fe or Albuquerque or New Mexico like all of this from blue corn donuts to like blue corn lagers at bow and Arrow and Green Chili Pizza. Grizzly Turkey sandwiches. I love it all such a wonderful and you know what's crazy. This is just a taste of New Mexico. Yeah it just tastes so I can't wait to go back and re eat re drink all of us and then just explore everything else. Because it's really unless you've been listening to park land show about National Parks Park Land. As production of iheartradio created by Mac Cara Wack wack and. "My favorite all right now. It's the time of the episode where we share our favorite parts of DC in its national park sites. We haven't told each other answers. So it's all surprise Matt. What was your favorite part of Washington? DC and the National Park Systems. Fantastic question I would say. My favorite part was probably the national archives because seeing seeing the bill of rights and the Declaration of Independence is probably one of the most like Americana things I've maybe ever done. And also you know directly to my favorite movie national treasure so that that plays a big part in in that decision now but it was. We're only there for a few minutes really in the Rotunda like looking at these documents but you are so immersed in it in every way. It's like a dark space. It's it's chilly so it's basically got Tony Environment and I it was. It was really really cool skimming over a little bit. Couldn't read most of it but the the impact of these documents is profound and yeah. I absolutely loved that so. I'm glad that we're able to do that. What about you? What was your favorite part of a very tough question in the bud I would? I would have to say the Lincoln Memorial There's just so much history Torri to to contemplate there. There's so many lessons in life the being on the road and just seeing these different memorials in these sites That impact as like a culture as a single culture and within the multiple cultures of the United States and trying to figure it out. And I think that's the one thing that I see. Abraham Lincoln means to me is like E. He realized that we're all individuals. We have our individual cultures but we have an American American culture as well and bringing people together was his mission. Yeah Yeah it is his legacy and so that's really what it is to me a little bit There's more to like processing over there but I just really love everything. That Abraham Lincoln was about out and figuring it figure it out. Yeah and it's also cool because that legacy and his whole ethos is really living on today as you can see the Lincoln and we'll get seven million annual visitors. That's a ton it's like one of the most visited places in DC and swarming with people. We were there and people from all walks of life from all over the world presumably. Are they're mingling together. And absorbing this experience and that was amazing and I also love how inspite of how crowded it was while you're inside the extra memorial. Everyone is quiet and respectful. That and there are signs that say like you know please be respectful and inquire while you're in here etcetera and everyone is very well behaved you know. Yeah they are yeah and also the view view from up there is just the best like up his long series of steps in overlooking the reflecting Pool The Washington Monument. It's probably the best view in the Jose I think about. Yeah sorry. I'm like kind of stealing your favorite thing. Now that's coming into my own but I'm just listening having fun you know and and this this park the or Washington. DC The district of Columbia. However you want to look at it the three things to bring really isn't your normal? I mean honestly I would bring friends and family because you don't want to be like thirteen year. Old Math like younger and friendless. Yeah don't experience it like I did in middle school Because you you might not have the best memories but I would say oh awesome place to visit with groups with family especially really and then there's a lot to do here and it's hard to kind of summarize it because it's so spread out and so many different things freebies freebies except bring money for milk. Barney yeah because you need to get your clock days and your corn cookies yes you do and then you also need to go to old et grill. More have an iconic meal. We actually ate and drank very well in DC. So I'm glad that we haven't even scratched the survey and that's fine though. Maybe maybe they'll be a special bonus episode in the future maybe branching out into neighborhoods and checking out more culture her and other kinds of activities and DC. Because this is just the very beginning and let's see the third thing so we got money friends and family yeah slash appetite of some sort of a camera and it can be yourself on. It doesn't have to be like huge beautiful camera but like there are are places to take great photos too so but just bring some kind of Camera because there's so many memories that like you're just GonNa take pictures all day anyway and what you're going to look through your remember you went to that place and then you're gonNA start researching because that's what we do like. We take pictures like. Oh yeah forgot about this and then I just go back and and start research and try to understand and see what else is in there. Because that's just what I I love to do right right for sure. Also I think this is another little thing to bring. It's like or the thing more so I think to get while you're there is public transit cards like we talked about Makes it real easy to to get around town. Walk to like while you're in and around the National Mall Very walkable but the the train makes it super easy to branch out from that as well. Yeah those public transit cards. Yeah definitely definitely worth it. Yeah I gotta say it was much nicer spending time in DC now that. I'm not a socially awkward seventh grader. I learned a ton I had so much fun and I left feeling very inspired and very well fed. This is definitely an all American city filled with inspiration and history. Plus it is inspired us to to obsess over Netflix. Shows like house of cards. An Madam Secretary. Yeah obsesses an understatement. Best enjoy it of course while eating milk bar cookies. "And then of course you have to get your basics. You're cleaning supplies. Your kids in organizational items toiletries And that actually brings me to our V.. Friendly Toilet paper. Don't use Sharman. I'm sorry Sherman but that stuff will clog up your RV so quick. I remember what I tried to use. You know sermon soft. I was so excited sided and it just clogged up so we had to pay someone to come out one hundred and fifty bucks to back Flush RV tank to get all the cluttered a toilet paper out so get used to not using the good stuff in the RV. You're definitely need to find your. RV friendly toilet paper Because you don't want to make a hundred and fifty dollar mistake because again. That's your resources at your money that you're traveling. We run out to dinner a couple of times multiple times with that But we had to spend it on back flushing. RV So don't make the same mistake as we did. There's a lot of brands of like. RV friendly toilet paper and honestly you. You can find these at camping. World's a lot of campsites actually carry. RV friendly toilet paper in the little mini camp store because they know that so important to your RV the system so you can when you're traveling through RV parks in different places. Walmart's you can actually find a lot of places that have friendly. RV Toilet Paper Roll along the road and the last thing. I really want to bring up our trailer hitches because they're so important when you're driving down the road so for for us we me nowadays. Just have our classy motor home and our scooter. But there's a specific thing that we have to put our scoot around. You know we have this motorcycle hedge so it just goes right into our hitch and then there's a ramp that we can put our scooter up in and then we use tie. Downs straps to tie-down or scooter. So that's one option of a trailer hitch Another trailer hitches. Their ball hitch. And those are the ones that you're gonNA ninety percent of trailers us They you know you just drop the trailer on it. Unlock it in you. Use Your latches and you can take off Plugging your electricals. That way. There's brake lights on your trailer. But then there's the fifth wheels like we talked about in the last boone docking with Brad which are in the middle of your truck so this wouldn't be an RV now this is not for our RV but this is to go into a truck so there's many different options for trailer hitches And our saving grace. This year was definitely the load bar. Sway Bar Combo This this little bar sway bar. Combo is like three hundred and fifty bucks but it just it saves your rear when you're driving eighty miles an hour down the road in your RV with the trailer behind it and then you get a big huge gust of wind like we did in Texas. I mean I still had to pull over. visit them feel safe. But I know for sure that this load bar sway bar. Combo really helped now with this. What does slowed bar sway? Bar Combo does is is it takes the load off of your rear wheels and it puts them more towards your front wheels making it more even not what a load bar does the sway bar with that does hooks up to your trailer and it makes your trailer doesn't sway back and forth or fishtail so while you're driving your you have complete control control over your vehicle. One thing that I learned is because I was pulling so much weight in our trailer this year is that we needed to get front shocks. That could hold up a better too so we actually blew out like our shocks on this year and so we Had to get those replaced. That was it was a cheap upgrade but basically now it's ready for the next time we ever have to pull a trailer behind us so there's a lot of little technicalities when you're towing behind A trailer like ah I mean this one had was probably at full capacity between the weight of our RV itself because you have to factor that into towing power for your engine. Your specific engineered chassis was like nine thousand pounds and I remember there was a point where between what our housing was or RV itself and the trailer behind. Find Us. Because you have to factor in the weight of the trailer itself. Even the tow bar hedge was like one hundred pounds The low bar. Combo is hundred. Pounds And then the weights. We had two pallets of Syrup which was another like five four or five thousand pounds so basically we had seven thousand impounds when I was done calculating it An eight thousand power pound to- limit and that's good because you don't want to push to your limit the whole time but we were only driving thing for like twenty hours with that and then dropped off one pallet and kept on going out north when we're heading to Las Vegas last year so there's definitely a lot of different for instances and you really need to make sure that you understand what your limits are for your vehicle and what they need so just because you have a classy doesn't mean you can tell whatever you want because it doesn't have the correct amount of power to actually pull those behind so then that leads you into maybe upgrading to that class. A. Diesel Or Class A gas. You know you do that but it's always better have diesel. It's definitely a better pusher. It's better for when you're going through the Blue Ridge mountains in the great smoky mountains. Or if you're going through the passes over Breckenridge Vail definitely want that diesel pusher because otherwise you're gonna be going up these at like forty forty miles an hour and it's gonNA drive you and everybody around you crazy so knowing your limits and how toe and where you're going is so important when traveling traveling but I guess that's something that will have to cover in a future episode boondock brand and Today I was really happy to be able to take you through the essentials that you need for. RV living just go a little bit more into understanding your RV specifically Understanding your needs and what it is that drives these beautiful homes across this country.
