Salem Radio's Carl Jackson Describes His Educational Journey

"Talking to crawl Jackson who identifies as a black man, and I want to respect that Carl. So I'm going to use the pronoun U, which is second person. For he, when I talk to you because you asked me to and I respect you. Yeah, your story is fascinating. So okay, you are starting to wake up. You're listening to talk radio. And you just were mentioning that you bumped into my amazing grace book, which came out I guess 2007. I don't know how that affected you. But how in the world did you bump into that book? I don't know where were you at in 2007? You know, I got to tell you, it just listening to more talk radio. I'm listening to Christian radio. I'm pretty sure I heard an interview of yours if I'm not mistaken. But anyway, I was prompted to get the book. I just wanted to learn more about it. The things that you were saying, I didn't know any of this stuff. I hadn't heard any of this stuff. I didn't know who William wilberforce was and I had never heard of the guy. And I got to tell you from reading, I read people like star Parker, Larry elder, Thomas, all Walter Williams. And I was learning all of this history that I had never heard of, and I got to tell you Eric, I got upset because I went through Los Angeles unified school district, and I felt like I didn't learn crap to be honest with you. I'm like, I never learned India. Look, I say the same thing everywhere I go, that everything that I have discovered. I think I mentioned it with the is atheism dead book. But the story of bernhardt for the story of wilberforce, the stories that I wrote in my book, if you can keep it about America, why doesn't everyone know this? Why did I learn this? It's kind of shocking when you realize it. And it does make you wake up and say, I need to tell the world, everyone needs to know this because if you don't know this, how can you possibly function or think clearly amidst the madness? But anyway, I'm glad I'm not the only one who has that response. Yeah, it was, you know, just reading more. It was obviously eye opening, and then as you read more and learn more, it becomes easy to figure out who's deceiving you and who's not whether it's radio, whether it's television, wherever or wherever it may be politicians. You know, it's funny to me, but reading, it is, it's true what they say. Reading takes you to a different place to a different world. And that's exactly what began to happen

Phil Kerpen Dared to Question the Data on COVID Deaths in America

"Let's talk to somebody who has been on the front line of separating not just fact from fiction, but proper ganda from the truth. He's a regular guest here. He is a very, very brave individual prayer student of American commitment and the committee to unleash prosperity. Phil kerp and thank you for coming in studio for one on one. My pleasure, great to be with you, doctor Parker. So Sebastian, please. Phil, let's start at the beginning. We have time to go through all of not just the health policy idiocy, the abuse of our body sovereignty, but also the economic and psychological consequences. But let's start at the beginning, you came to my notice because you were doing something very, very untoward. You were daring to question the statistics for COVID fatalities. And you're going state by state. Last time we spoke was a few months ago, could you give us an overview? Somebody just landed from another planet and said, Phil, tell us about the data on COVID deaths in America and cases. And what would be your summary pricey as to the problems with how things have been reported to the American people? Well, we've decided that unlike every other disease or condition in the history of the world where we counted deaths that were caused by that disease or condition for this, we count deaths that are associated with COVID, which is quite a big distinction. So some have very serious conditions, die of those conditions, but is tested positive for COVID and then that's added to the tallies. Correct. And there's some variation geographically, so we don't even have a consistent definition nationally. But in a lot of places, the way this works is any death of any cause of death within a certain number of days it could be 30 days it could be 60 days. Of a positive test goes into the count. And it could have been could have been someone who died in a car accident or a gunshot wound. If there's a positive task within the cutoff, they go

Duchess of Cornwall 'Can't Stop Talking' About Joe Biden's 'Long, Loud' Fart at COP26

"A lot of people listening right now don't know this, but this is it's been all over the Internet. I love when people say it's been all over the Internet, or the Internet is angry about something. Well, the fact of the matter is that at the G 8 summit or the G 6 summit when they were talking about greenhouse gases and climate change, this is not a joke, folks. This is a sad statement. Our leader Joe Biden, vice President Biden was with Camilla Parker Bowles, the duchess, of Cornwall. The duchess of Cornwall. Now that is, this is the woman that Charles was enamored of during his marriage with Princess Diana. You'll remember this. And then eventually, of course, he married Camilla Parker Bowles, who is now the Dutch as she styled officially as the duchess of Cornwall. Now, if you hear those sirens, I'm in Wichita, Kansas. So I have no idea whether it would be sirens here. It doesn't make any sense. Usually we have science in New York. Anyway, I'm in Wichita. And I want to tell you about where I am and everything. But before I get into all that, I just want to say that there was a royal incident that was reported. It's all over the news this morning. I have put it on Twitter. If you don't follow me on Twitter or on gab or just make sure it's not a tornado siren, right? I don't know what that was happening. I don't know. All I know is I'm in Wichita. They tell me. So it seems that Joe Biden while he was talking to Camilla Parker Bowles, the duchess of Cornwall and the wife of the Prince Charles, he I don't know how to put this. He passed what we would like to call gas, very loudly. And it was a long, low kind of like a boatswain's call. If you've ever been in the navy, actually no, that's high pitched. This was, but it was widely reported. Camilla talked to people about it and it got out. So it's all over the news. And I guess this is what you call breaking news.

John Zmirak and Eric Discuss the Possibility of Life on Other Planets

"John's my friend. We have a lot to talk about. We've already been talking about many important things. Now, we did talk about Camilla Parker Bowles. We're not going to talk about her anymore. We're going to talk about Camilla Harris who's the vice president of the United States. And she styled as the duchess of Sacramento. And or actually, we don't have to talk about her. What would you like to talk about? Rather, move to more elevated topics. I've got a piece of stream dot org called a pale blue dot, I think not. And in it I talk a bit about your book is atheism dead. I talk about the book, the privileged planet. Carl Sagan on the old cosmos from the 1970s and 80s. Used to present the vastness and emptiness of the universe. And are small rather off center position in it as proof of human insignificance. He would say things like in a wear on a third rate planet with a second tier star and an unfashionable neighborhood of the back end of nowhere of an universe that is vast and seemingly empty. Where there is doubtless life on billions of other planets, and maybe far more advanced than our own. Well, since then, science, capital S, science, TM, trademark, has discovered something new. It's discovered that there are very few planets in the universe that are in fact inhabitable. We used to think, oh, maybe there's life based not on carbon, but silicon or magnesium based life forms. No, no. Science is increasingly found that life has to be based on carbon, it has to have water, it has to have tectonic plates. It has to have a moon. It has to be within a certain distance, perfect sort of Goldilocks distance to a medium sized star. The number of constraints on inhabitable exoplanets has kept growing and growing and growing. And the number of candidates for planets that might have life has been shrinking and shrinking and shrinking and shrinking and shrinking and shrinking and shrinking until it seems increasingly as if earth and maybe a few other very earth like planets somewhere. Are the only places where life could possibly exist. I would go, I have gone a step farther in what I have written. I have said that the number of planets where life should exist shrank down down down down down to zero and then kept going. In other words, the odds against life even existing on a single planet like earth went below zero to increasingly impossible to the point where I now argue in my book miracles and in the new book is atheism dead that the odds against any life existing are

She hasn't stopped talking about it. It has been reported. The pair were making small talk at the global climate change gathering in Scotland when the president broke wind. I mean how we make decisions that when you not committing to something that may be on your goal sheet or maybe you really sort of lawn. You're actually making a commitment to the reverse of that sorry by not committing to a relationship. You're actually making a commitment to not be in that relationship. You know as i you committing to yourself enough to work on yourself that you're attracting the right relationship or you just committed to the story that or relationships that doomed at all marriage is doomed and all may know women are doomed. And what are you. Mice committed to what story in your head. I is committed to. That's preventing you from absolutely amplifying foss trekking and stepping into your truest highest real potential. "Are you familiar with his sprint. Is it just me. Who who's seen this out in the real world and thinks wow. It's about time they went public. I am familiar with the brand. I've owned parker glasses in the past. And i think they've done a pretty smart job with their physical retail strategy. There's there there are a couple nearby. there's one in georgetown. there's one that went in here and old town alexandria sort of on the main strip king street so i think they've been smart about Slowly methodically expanding their physical footprint. I also think they have a pretty compelling story in terms of an industry doesn't really get a lot of attention. I'm not saying it's should but there is essentially a monopoly in the eyeglasses industry or there has been for a very very long time. Which is why the price of eyeglasses is so expensive. It's why war parker is able to come in with a product that is a quality product at a much lower price. So i'm rooting for them. Just as a consumer as someone who wears eyeglasses. I don't know that i'm going to rush out and buy the stock. I always liked to see how companies do those first couple of of quarters both in terms of their results. Are they delivering in the way that they say they're going to deliver because it's so much harder to be a public company that a private company and what is management style. You know how does it. How are they dealing with the questions. They get on a conference call. Those are all things. I wanna see but a decent a decent opportunity for them certainly. Yeah i agree. I i like that you mention that they are one of the scrappy underdogs in the eyewear rolled. Which is dominated by. Just a few big conglomerates. Look saad ika comes. Yeah that's the big one conglomerate that has given so many small players trouble they do have a virtual monopoly in this business and through emanate. They've only gotten bigger in the past few years so it is fun to see an underdog with a great product. And i'll ask you in maybe two or three years from now chris. They say in their perspective that they've got a pretty good success rate with customers coming back. They've got a fifty percent sales retention within the first couple of years of selling a pair of glasses and a nearly one hundred percent sales retention within forty eight months..

"Both of these are before their dividends so price return only not total return so there is an argument to be made here that with a slightly new business strategy the shares are undervalued relative to their potential relative to a benchmark competitors. So they're doing the opposite of what many companies do which is as you say to buy shares when they're too high and waste capital. This looks on the face of things. Pretty efficient worby. Parker is going public today. The online eyeglasses retailer is doing a direct listing with a starting price of forty dollars a share which gives worby parker an initial valuation of close to five billion dollars. I'm not gonna take any issue with how their pricing their stock. Not when we've seen what we've seen over the last eighteen months in terms of whether it's ipo's direct listing specs. Whatever is this a business that interests you as a shareholder potential shareholder in actually is chris. The older i get the more i realize. I've been tripped up by not paying attention to strong brands in the marketplace. And i think that worby parker has an extremely well known brand among consumers they set out oh ten or eleven years ago to reinvent the eyewear selling industry. At that time there were very few companies that were selling online. This company started from scratch built. Its own supply chain controls its own distribution has a very reasonable price point they. They're eyewear starts at ninety five bucks for for a per very nice glasses and glasses looks biffi. I have to say you can't ignore this. Potential shareholder look at the products out in the real world. they've got a very attractive portfolio of eyewear as i say it's reasonably priced. It's a direct to consumer model. Not only do they sell online but they have now a very big retail footprint. I think this is a company that potential shareholders may want to pay attention to they are founder led the cofounders are still going to own a big chunk of the company and a controlling interest in the company so they can call their own shots and the financials interesting to worby. Parker isn't profitable yet but on an operating basis trending towards break. Even chris when you stack their numbers from two thousand eighteen to two thousand twenty you see a lot of growth in two thousand eighteen. The company had revenue of about two hundred. Seventy three million dollars in twenty twenty. They had revenue of about three hundred ninety. Four million dollars now. They stumbled last year when everything shut down in the retail world but looking at their numbers this morning the first six months of twenty twenty one they show a really fast rate of growth versus that softer period in twenty twenty So they've done about two hundred seventy one million dollars in revenue in the first six months of this year you can extrapolate that out to a pretty decent year. That's going to be above five hundred million dollars in revenue. And as i said they are trending towards break even with that revenue for the first six months. They've only lost about seven million bucks on a net income basis. So there are lots of things to like about. This company. Wanted to ask you generally..

"I used to love be booksellers. When did you do there. Oh lord you're going back to nineteen eighty you know my my parents and family moved down there with my dad. Got transferred and It was as close by. I a job there. You know and ended up for the tunnel. Always there Started out in the back room. Receiving the books getting them all the labels and stickers and stuff and putting them out and then got beyond the register in that kind of stuff you know so ended up stocking and working that i love being down there because it was right down the street from the windmill dinner theater and a lot of actors came through doing plays there and a few of my she stop in the store to buy some stuff excellent but i got instilled in reading. Men was watching spenser for hire series on television. And one of the ladies that worked percent if you love the show who should read the books to read in the books and behold from their own. Isn't it interesting. How things often start with television I know that my love's mystery started with watching honey west way back in the day now going back more. Yeah but yeah. It's just funny. I'll have like that. You know when i got into reading rubber parker than but display in john d. Macdonald's just went from there and you know is started loving whatever. I can get my hands on all. Great stuffs well Tell us about arthur nikai. He's an interesting character. An excellent reign of former member of the special ice unit and a native american correct. Exactly how did you come up with this character not to mention his wife. Who's a news reporter. I thought that was interesting. Please tell us more. Sure i mean i. I started thinking about developing i. I took a two week vacation out there. And i traveled the route. That's in the book. So whatever i saw one that way dictated into a tape recorder and came back and transpose. It all down. You know this sort of developing characters and backstories the characters and I stumbled across. I wanted to be different in a lot of ways and other writers out there writing about that and not not as far as police goes or whatever it may be you know. But i developed arthur nikai based on my love for our kalashnikov by the native american flute player. And at the time. One of my friends. Where i worked a million years ago. It seems like now Whose first thing with arthur. So i liked the way that rain together. So i use that they'll to character that As far as his. Wife sharon goes. I actually was texting back and forth in the mornings with one of the local reporters in the nbc station here and chicago and Wanted to ask her some questions about you. Know what you give up to have this life you have. I wanted to make her real and things that happen In their life once you have that job while things you don't get to do You miss a lot of birthdays. Anniversaries you're always on the air doing something you know so. She helped out a lot with that. And i developed that curator of the other ones of jake. Bill cody which is loosely based on my grandfather large barrel chested man. You know With that so i start molding these people into what i i have now needs really interesting the way your travels informed your fiction writing. So yeah i. What was the whole plan to do that. Because you know you can't just look online and find pictures and things and do things and men do searches. you have to be there. And that's what i found out a long time ago. I told on hillerman once at the her father helped me understand the importance of descriptive sentencing. You know surrounding sect place I think robert parker helped me develop a dialogue kind of conversations in books. So i use those along with that. I had to be there. You have the smell that you have to see to taste it and feel the heat feel the cold in order to convey that to the reader in the book and a lot of people who have read my books feel like they're right there in the situation in the area. I love that.

What Would the 12-Team College Football Playoff Landscape Look Like

"I rob we talked a few. I get it now. I think it was a few months ago at this point about the playoff expansion in college football and at that time it really seemed like the twelve team playoffs was was coming and they have momentum in you know everybody seem or most people seem like they were for at least the people on the committee and it seemed like that was going to be the next phase of college football and now it is being put on hold and very much in jeopardy and as much as i'm for and you know this. I'm for the playoff expansion for the twelve team playoff. But i understand why it's a whole and that's because oklahoma and texas are about to leave the big twelve suit and it. Looks like the sec. Are they creating some type of super conference. And then will you know the pac twelve and the big ten like some of these other big conferences. That are left out. I mean rob. There are people that think we could end up with two. Maybe three super conferences like a almost like a. You know the first division is. maybe. I don't know forty fifty teams because let's face it that's really what it is anyway. Well but forty fifty teams at the top level. Almost like the nfl. So i think with autism. Flux i don't think you can is the to twelve at this point you gotta see the conference play out. I in my opinion. I also think there's distrust amongst these guys like trying to get out because of what's happened chris. Like people sneaking out of their conference in the middle of the night right leaving the other the other ones in the learning tracks in in in effect you know like like like some of them of affected. The tv contracts right out of schools pulled out and then that gives a clause to espn. Or fox's say wait a minute no no no. We didn't sign up for this without these teams. So you know what i mean like. We got a problem and we're good avoid. I mean it is just. It's been insane this past off season. I would college football and where it's headed chris. And you're right. "It up in my book and like plus fifty plus fifty in the ledger. I think you a lot of people wings. What no waited winning most of these wing but but go ahead here that you're that guy in the movies when they look for you go. Where's rob parker. He's racked up a lot of wing. Bets across town wouldn't be surprised if something happened to the guy he owes a lot and they don't roll over. It's it's i don't know if you get a lot of people upset man. People come looking for. Rob parker ha. I don't see him that often any. Let's put this one on the record. Okay let's get twenty wings and a diet coke for me. Whatever beverage you like now. Only wings sake cam newton. Let's get this recorded and we'll hang onto this okay cam. Newton will be the starter not mack. Jones i well let me tell you why i'm going to be now up seventy in the wing calm and you're going to completely disappear every time i call you right so they they keep cam newton because they have to. 'cause you don't know how it's gonna go in the draft and they get jones right now. A mac. Joan shows up and clearly the median. The fans all think. It's tom brady. Got tom brady again. Always intangibles or so good. I'll look at the way he throws the ball. Yes because fifteen teams passed on the next. Tom brady and you guys got him at fifteen okay. But they clearly wanted to go in this direction at quarterback right. You don't take guy in the first round unless you're ready to replace the guy you have. So what how is this battle unfolding right last night. They both play. Well right. cam goes eight. Out of nine for touchdown. I'm in good no okay. Jones was good right mack. Jones thirty nine thousand one hundred and forty six yards. He was mack jones. Pretty good too and mack. Jones played a lot more than cam. Did now this is how it's going right is that here's how it's all. I think it's a fixed competition cam newton's out there and all camp. What have we heard from check while he cams are guy but when mac is ready then we're than we're gonna make that decision not cams our guy in the beginning and then if he plays great he's going to be are starting to win..

"Mlb america. This is inside the parker. You give us twenty two minutes. We'll give you the scoop on major league baseball now. Here's baseball hall of fame. Voter number eighty three rob parker. Welcome into the podcast. I'm your host rob parker and what a special edition of inside. The park was still on low. Pay in denver. And man what a great homerun derby and a great job all star game. We're going to hear from some of the big stars. Aaron judge tim anderson taiwan walker cedric mullins and mortgage simeon. That and much more. Let's go to lead off. It's getting and keep them up. Rob's take the three biggest stories in major league baseball so wrote a big car. Deadspin dot com off the all star game and it was basically my all star takeaway weekday number one atmospheres. Everything i think you felt denied. No us on social media people talking about it but the atmosphere at coors field in denver was tremendous. I don't know wasn't the pandemic being over the idea of us all being in crowds again but the crowd was electric at the home. Run derby at the all-star game. There was a seat to be had at coors field. At what i was most impressed by was fans stayed in their seeds to watch the action if you watched on top of the empty seats and even the all star game which was the five two win for the american league the a straight win for the. Al was people didn't leave early to be traffic people. Stay to the end. All the runs didn't come on home. Runs or strikeouts. We got some cool matchups otani against tattoos junior. Everybody wanted to see that it was special. And you know for a couple of nights. Baseball took center stage again and felt right you. Life felt good. Baseball felt good. I hope you've felted through the tv. Because i definitely felt it at the ballpark. I love going to the all star game. We really missed it from a year ago but man. That was some seen number two. I know there was a big controversy before the all star festivities about shohei otani and speaking english interpreter. And people going crazy about that and all the debate but there's no denying about the international flavor in baseball. Let's just take the all star game is start. The game was won by japanese player. The game was saved by an australian and the mvp of the game was dominican. I mean is that not america. Only thing that was missing was the apple pie. Maybe chevrolet but yes. Baseball is very international. We see a play out. You know what but you know supersedes people's culture their language. This size shape is talent when you have talent. It doesn't matter. We saw you saw glad guerrero junior. His dad's a hall of fame. What do you do yeah. Big home run another. Rbi this kid staw the youngest guy to win the mvp ever which is incredible. The toronto blue jays lucky kinda got pushed to the side because so much be available tiny and tease junior. But guerrero junior the star and we saw that last night. Shohei ohtani. Another one dude. He's just as advertised. This is why the angels the back up. The brinks truck paid his guy to get him from japan and the all star game. He started the game and he was in the light up as a d. h. to pitch over one hundred miles our heads but man you know just to have them out there. Doing what he's doing. Nobody had ever gone to the all star game as a pitcher and a hitter. So that tells you all you need to know about him and hendrix. Who purchased for the white sox. He's the australian player so we saw baseball has all these young stars and and many of them are from the united states. There's plenty from the united states but there are a lot of big stars won. The game has a real international flavor more so than any other sport was see more international playing basketball not football obviously but baseball a view. Watch the game and you saw stars you said to yourself. Wow number three. It was good to hear from commissioner rob manfred about the changes in the game. First of all. I'm gonna give them credit for going after google gate and goodness things straight now. Baseball was a crossroads. Couldn't wait till next year to get let guys get their act together now. The rules have been on the books. You can't put a foreign substance on the ball hitting suffered and already we're staying improvements would batting averages and god's not striking out as much things have changed already. I love the way he attacked that. And then to hear the commissioner say that a few things are likely to change. They're going to drop the seven inning. Doubleheaders that extra one rule on second base in an extra innings. That's going to go away. Thank god and here's the one that really liked touch me to make me feel like okay. We'll give it back to baseball. Routes is no more of the defensive stiffs now. They didn't spell out how they're going to do it. But i'm assuming you've got to have two guys on each side of the bag you can move your guys around but you can't put four guys on one side of the diamond. I think that's raw. You take away hits which we've seen batting average of suffered and you taken people off the base path. So so it was like a strikeout or homerun. There's no in between we saw the all star game manufacturing of ron's that's what we need. We need baserunners. So i love that. The commissioners laws is active getting baseball back to what we love it. The pencil protecting geeks. Who have taken over baseball. Then we got to take him back and all that analytics. Ask the yankees. He didn't need deep analytics. How's that working out for them. They haven't won a world series since two thousand nine and they're one of the leaders in analytics so let's work during the regular season but it hasn't worked. And here's the other last thing. Garrett cole wanted the big culprits. Google gate right before the all-star game what did he do pitched a complete game shutout against houston twelve strikeouts hundred and twenty nine pitches. Funny he can't do it without google. These guys catch without google. Stop it it was a it was a bravo performance by garrett cole so bake all is in the right direction man.

"parker" Discussed on Two Broads Talking Politics

"Hey everyone this is Kelly you with too broad stalking politics and I am on as usual with my co-host Sophie. Hey Sophie eight Kelly and we are joined today by Mariah Mariah Parker who is the county commissioner in district two of the Athens Clarke County Georgia. I'm Maria. Hey thanks for having me on the show yeah. Thanks so much for joining us so I think I have a lot of questions for you. But why don't we start in with just a little bit of background. Tells a little bit about yourself. Kevin how you came to be county commissioner in Athens Clarke County Georgia sure so I moved to Athens about six years ago I was looking for change kind of living at home with my parents and I had some friends who lived in Athens came to visit started sleeping on my friends. boyfriends couch got a job at a diner here there and never went back to Raleigh Kinda do but then later got involved in two ways in Athens. I became a graduate student at the University of Georgia where I said he thinks affects got my master's there and they also got involved in the music scene here. Athens listeners would know that folks like Aria Montreal and Neutral Milk Hotel or famously from here and so we have a very robust music scene and I hadn't really taken part in music before but you know it written wraps my whole life so I became a rapper sounds like a lot of community around that and it's important to the story of how I got involved in politics because it's both was like a political training ground for mm-hmm and how I met the candidate that got me into politics organizing hip hop shows and ran into gentleman by the name of Tommy Valentine. He's running county commissioner at the time and he got me thinking about the way that community organizing in a political sense very much like organizing the community around the arts and and music and the way those skill set so transferable and to my surprise you know I'm just like this rapper with no political experience. He asked the campaign eventually became field director than campaign director and then decide to run for office myself so that's a little bit about how I got involved in politics. It's your nothing and what was specifically interesting to you about the commissioner position. Well I saw an interesting moment in the political landscape landscape of Athens that I felt like someone really needed to step in to for one there are a number of candidates running on progressive platform for things like comprehensive civil rights and discrimination Legislation Marijuana Decriminalization for housing republic transportation things like this but there weren't enough of them if they were also elected for them to actually have the mandate behind the rail to get things done to have that majority they would need to vote these things into reality and so oh that's a scary part of working on a campaign. I believe a lot it but wasn't sure if it could pull off a lot of promises. You're making it the community so I know when they needed like a sixth player on the team in order to accomplish that at the time in addition in my district where I live there have been a gentleman who would throw it on the Commission for about twenty five years and had won uncontested largely for the majority of that time and he had stepped down to run for mayor and so a protege of his was running for at the again running uncontested so those two converging issues that I saw going on one democracy was not playing out in my district and two do we needed this progressive slate in order to accomplish any of the things that we were raising conversation in the community about and so why at the time was still learning a lot about what a commissioner isn't what commissioner does I felt empowered to like run for office one day for running this campaign and just uniquely opportunity for me to step in and give people an option even if I failed so that's why I went for it and I definitely got a crash course on county government since then so when you were sworn in as some of the pictures when a little bit viral you're in teen vogue and some other places in part you know you when you were sworn born in your sworn in a copy on a copy of the autobiography of Malcolm X. So talk a little bit about that and and what the you know I know a little bit about what the National Reaction Action was but what was the local reaction to us sort of being your authentic self even in the swearing in ceremony interesting question because at first it was hard for me to gauge what the genuine local reaction was given the way that the Internet operates and the way that folks from all all distant in corners of the globe can participate and compensation whether or not they have a dog in a fight or not and so two separate out a lot of patrolling that I was getting from Immuno Portland or Texas and Mississippi Frog abode ways that people are actually thinking and feeling here in Athens was a struggle for me because it was somewhat of a dealers but overwhelmingly I felt that the reception was really positive. People were really really hinging their hopes for a reaction to the trump administration I should and for really progressive for progressive change really like have a grassroots uprising here in Athens on this election and so so to see that one of their elected politicians was starting off with a really bold stance and unwilling to compromise it being themselves. I you think drew more hope and admiration than it did vitriol even though when you you know in the comments section and doesn't always quite Dr Phil. This was a special election. I think we know did end you you won by thirteen votes which is not a huge huge margin of victory obviously super impressive and you knew that every door you knocked was important when you win by thirteen votes a but you run again in twenty twenty and so how does that how does that does that affect your your thinking at all your campaign strategy at all knowing how razor thin margin was less time. How do you think about running again well. There's two ways to approach it. I feel like you could be very politically politically calculated and trying to make the most amount of like important people happy in order to safely secure reelection or as with a lot of things in life. You can treat it. Does you only have one chance and go for it and I believe in really going for it in terms of like really pushing hard for like progressive change now rather than letting and this very circuitous and labyrinths seen system work. Its way out the way it has to do with government. I prefer pushing hard now. Because I think that excites the people there might be some people who are more in favor of incremental change or you know in favor on the status quo and hesitant to see things change at all but do have a lot of power. Howard and fluency thing folks that are you know the most dependable voters but at the end of the day for me. It's not about getting reelected or not. It's about doing the right thing and so for me. It's like pushing to make sure we expand free bus access to more than this year we expanded it to disabled folks and senior citizens so we're also trying to push to get it three on election days and things like that trying to work out some of the kinks and problems we've had with marijuana decriminalization now rather than waiting for the Solicitor General to figure out how he's going to deal with legislation to me pass going ahead and pushing for a really comprehensive and oh discrimination legislation because right now hate crimes are legal Georgia or you know they're not adjudicated against as a separate crime so there's all these things that like we could wait to see what happens or we can do something about now and I I'm approaching my term and they got all but in terms of the field strategy edgy. I think that we build a really strong campaign. Last time I was very lucky to be able to plug some extra volunteers in some extra push into the campaign I had already built around around my friend who was running at the time and so a lot of folks are still hearing a lower more people who were then might have gotten inspired by the the Malcolm X. Situation and now see this as their opportunity to jump in and be a part of something exciting so we're gonna out there and knocking on doors relentlessly meet folks further out out in the community and we'll see what happens as with last time when I feel like I just have to get work done and the a lot of the work has already been done being elected all Sean people that are this possible so so I am a writer and I've thought about running for local office but it's kind of intimidating because I feel like a lot of the people who run for local office are either like lawyers lawyers or business owners and you're a creative person. I got really excited when I saw it. You know you also so I have a creative writing degree. You also have won a linguistics student in your musician in you. Talk a little bit about like sort of in the things that you bring to the job from your creative background yeah totally. I feel like I got my all my political training like in the hip hop community here in Athens I've never debate club as a kid I was never involved in political society groups but like I learned how to debate debate and like hold my ground and communicate my you know my confidence in myself my confidence in my community like defend myself through room rap battles like I was one of the only women battling around the time that the hip hop scene started to see a resurgence back about three years ago and that that spending up against folks constantly who were coming at me a about you know the way I talk and wait address this and that and being being able to respond gracefully and creatively and spontaneously in a moment to challenges that arise in front of you is like one of the greatest strengths of being a good leader being the politician. I definitely think I bring a lot of that like since of grounded nece and flexibility of thinking into the commission chambers with me every time I go there because it's a rap battle rap battle. Only folks don't think they know the rules but I plan by different set of rules and Lex like a come to win so I definitely think that is a blue. It's the way that I undertake public service and then being opponent creative native world especially the world like hip hop. You're intimately connected with stories of struggle. You here folks talking about the things that they've seen that things. They've had to do to to get by the things that are holding them back from even being successful in their art and you are. I think a lot of the lawyers and business folks that you're talking about. Forget about those stories they forget about those people and I feel like hip hop artist experiencing a lot of that art and being part of fostering community but it's like let's set up through like organizing in the music scene 'cause definitely in a form what issues. I think are important or on our most urgent and like help me keep a foot in that world to remember like the people who are genuinely affected by the change. We are debating implementing. Do you find yourself rapping at all in county commissioner meetings things I will occasionally take notes in like on my little legal pad in like verson meter for like man. It's my time to speak. I don't think I don't think I could happen here. It doesn't feel like the VIBE is wrong but like to process thoughts to prepare what I'm going to say. In response to something are like to channel some of that jury. I will definitely pin little APPs when I'm sitting in City Hall for sure so I have been impeached. He student didn't it didn't take and I've I've been around for so I've been around. PhD students a lot so you know perhaps a lot of people. The most surprising things about you running for office are that you're you're young and those sorts of things to me. The most surprising thing is that anyone can balance. Phd Studies running for office. I mean what how how how do you balance. How is that possible I I. It's a question I a lot and I honestly don't know how it works. It's working like I'm still working to the kings of like how to serve the public and Dan you know crap my lesson for Thursday do all my readings for Friday and like he my adviser off my back at the same time. It's something that I'm constantly learning and I think embracing that like everything is practice and everything is is teaching. You like how to be better if you frame. AM struggle or failure as system that you need to stop and reflect and show some compassion like recognize you humanity and like Chile Abed keeps me sane whether or not that keeps the quality of my Phd Work Up..

"Parker. Welcome into Tuesday, the twenty third day of April joined now by San Antonio. I news national correspondent bills Infor. You may recall it wasn't that long ago February to be exact president of the United States met with North Korean leader, Kim Jong UN in Vietnam broke down due to disagreement over ridding North Korea its nuclear arsenal. And last Wednesday. Of course, North Korea said they test fired a tactical guided weapon more on that coming up right now Bill like to talk to you about the fact these reports that Kim's going to sit down with the president of Russia. Well, more than reports. Now, Charlie there is confirmation from both the Kremlin and from North Korea's state news agency that there will be a meeting between bladder. Amir Putin and Kim Jong on they say soon, I'm saying very soon as early as tomorrow in bladder Vostok, Kim Jong UN reportedly ready to get on board that armored. Train and make the four hundred twenty-five mile trip from John Yang up to flat Avaz stock as Vladimir Putin makes his way to the belt road for them in Beijing this weekend, he will stop and bladder Bostock and sit down with Kim Jong on in a meeting that has to be a little bit unnerving on the White House. Of course, Kim Jong UN is trying to get Russia on his side of the court when it comes to pushing for at least partial sanctions relief while Vladimir Putin. Well, he is looking to insert himself in the game here with North Korea and has always shown that propensity to get involved with countries that may have fraying relationships with the United States like Syria, Iran, then as Waylon and now possibly North Korea. And I'm top of that North Korea likes Russia's Christie supplies. They like to get them to invest to in their industrial plants, railways, some other infrastructure and on the other side of that Russia anticipated in gaining access to mineral. Resources. Absolutely. There are a lot of projects that they went to work together on of course, they share a short border there. And they're also about eight thousand it's estimated and this could be a low number eight thousand migrant workers who come from North Korea into Russia to work every day. So, you know, Russia wants to be able to maintain that as well. And so does North Korea because a lot of that money, of course, comes back to that country. A lot of projects that could be held up by sanctions right now. So there is an economic benefit between the two as well. But you have to wonder Charlie is a little bit of best buddy competition going to happen here as Kim Jong UN sits down with Vladimir Putin. Maybe a little horseback ride in a Russian countryside involving the two leaders as President Trump watches from afar with this possibly expedite a third summit between the president and Kim. I don't know because this'll be interesting to watch will President Trump get involved here. And have a statement to say about this. If these two leaders released a statement saying that there should be partial sanctions relief for North Korea. That's going to be the main push by North Korea in this meeting Willett prompt another one, you know, I'm not sure we have had North Korea being critical of the US on several fronts here, including the demand that Mike Pompeo be replaced by the United States in any future negotiations. Not sure if that's going to happen. I wouldn't put money on that one. Appreciate the update. San antonio. I news national correspondent bills in for put down the phone head to WalMart and get yourself. One of those old clock radios. Tell you why coming up and true, Texas style big bibs barbecue slow cooked up the fourteen hours every day aged oak, and mosquito woods that time consuming process gives the meat that pink tinge.
