There's there's a movie back in the day called ski school ski patrol those types of like really gross out like teen comedies porkies. Obviously first billers day off There there's a couple others that i had written down before that i that i neglect to put on here now. Oh we'll obviously american graffiti when they're at the car hop like that is that's that's typical sixties stuff. And so they had this. They had this coming of age thing. Business Is Booming At National Parks

"Standing outside the north entrance to Yellowstone National Park in Gardner Montana you could tick through about two dozen state license plates in the time that it takes you to drink a coffee. That is normal in the summer. What's not normal is the people driving those cars doing stuff like this we rented a van and it has a Florida license sag but I put a sign in the back window that said we are not from Florida. Lynn Hunter and her family are from Kansas, your that Kansas, even grandson, Noah will tell you. Don't want anybody think we are same goes for just about any place that's been in the news recently for having spikes in Cova Cases Families like the hunters are driving national parks like yellowstone in droves right now, king to escape from wherever are trying to salvage a summer of stress and they know that it comes with risks we were scared to come really we've been planning it for a long time. So here they are at one of the country's first national parks and they're happy they did thing is the same is true for about one point five, million other people since mid-may Ricarda, raise, and his family are from North Carolina. Made. It will be a kind of a little bit but a lot of people out there over the last couple of weeks the number of cars entering the Gardner entrance at Yellowstone National Park are higher than they were at the same time. Last year restaurants have long waits rafting companies are struggling to find workers and fly fishing guides. Richard Parkes owner of parks fly shop says too bad anglers. There's just as many people casting for Yellowstone Brown or cutthroat trout as there's ever been before I. Think we're getting some people that are just refugee ing Outta those places that's great for his bottom line park says he makes between eighty and ninety percent of his annual earnings between June and September. But at seventy seven years old, it's also a bit worrisome. I'm official old. Flood. Is. One of the people inherently more vulnerable than others and I get a little nervous when? "Side, Jeff Parke Blazers, taking the afternoon off for a long holiday weekend, sitting in the chair for blazer. I appreciate the opportunity the mike to do this and I just give you a common sense opinion on current events. That's what I like talking about following the news. I listen to the news. I watch the news. I watch my Facebook me feed. I just pay attention to what's going on and in today's current events, and I find myself having the opinion. And it's an honor to be sitting here, especially on Independence Day weekend to be able to do that, and Friday afternoon news dumps or one of those things that I've talked about many, many times, you've got to pay attention to the news when they're really big stories that somebody's trying to hide or trying to bury. They don't want to get public pressure. It comes out on Friday afternoon. One of the stories that came out today by the way comes out on Friday afternoon, especially in a long holiday weekend like this One of the stories they hit today is what's going on in Washington The Washington Redskins are moving towards changing a controversial team name Roger Goodell has endorsed it. Daniel Snyder has fought it. But the public pressure over the mighty dollar because Nike FedEx and Pepsi have stepped into it, and they're asking for a team name change and when you start affecting their income is when you start seeing change, and I contend that when it's going to happen, the Redskins will change their name. And I contend when that happens, it will validate a GN additional move across other sporting leagues to change names, namely the Cleveland Indians. Trust me. We're a couple weeks away from that happening. We're not far away before you're going to hear in the news. A conversation of Cleveland Indians have to defend the name Cleveland Indians and Kansas City Chiefs will have to defend the name Kansas City Chiefs and Trust me when I tell you, their PR departments are having these conversations Today. Polly, you're on 6 10 W TV. And what do you think? Well, one thing that I think is, I think being American is often that we all get to have our own opinion. And having said that, I feel like if, um the native American peoples wanted that name change, then they should be the ones that would be Talking about it and requesting that and it just It's kind of frustrating to me because I don't know what they have done that and it's frustrating to me at all is another example of arrogance from One group saying, Oh, let me take care of you. And I don't think that's really rude and disrespectful to the native Americans and to that to the Redskins, because who knows? Maybe they didn't want that changed, but it just seems like Sometimes when we get power, we just want to be so self righteous like we're goingto save the world when that's pretty arrogant because maybe the native Americans don't mind that name. Polly, you're spot on as you always are. And I appreciate you listening. Thank you very much. You have a great fourth of July long weekend. Thanks for being a part of show. Lois, you're on 6 10 W. TV and Now I have a lot to talk about this damn pound as Americans The beard up started this bunch at the wall in 1800 We like the Pony Express. We've been doing everything and then watch it go when there's something wrong. Everybody leaves the backup. Blanca's Ian we've got started out was a start now in the middle, but not equipped. They need to move on. That's what they got. That's it, Lois. I appreciate I got you all fired up this afternoon. But I didn't mean to fire up. But the fact is, it's going to change. The Redskins are going to change their name and the commissioner of the NFL is endorsing it. Daniel Snyder is going to be forced into it. You gotta follow the money and at some point time somebody in Cleveland's graft defend the name Cleveland Indians, Gretchen You're on 6 10 W. T V in Yes, After I've been hearing everyone talk. I am so afraid that Snyder will be caving in. Somebody has to stand up on his hind legs and say, No, I'm sorry. I am not going to cave in. I have said. That's what it's going to be called. A lot of the Indians are in favor of it because they feel that it's an honor. This whole country is caving into small groups of people who don't like the way something is done Pretty soon we will not, and we're losing our freedom of speech. If you say something that somebody likes. It's like, Oh, my goodness. You're offending me. So groups of people are talking that way, and the country's basically going to hell in a hand basket. I'm afraid I I just deeply regret our loss of freedom of speech and having Teo the social properly speaking about every single thing anymore, and I'm really unhappy with with the whole thing. So thank you, Gretchen. Thank you for calling. I appreciate we're talking about the story out of today Out of Washington, D C is Washington Redskins today moved towards what team owner Daniel Snyder once vowed was unthinkable on that is changing the name of the team from from the Washington Redskins to something else, bowing down to public pressure that it's offensive to the Native Americans. And it's got that hand has been forced by money by FedEx by Pepsi and buy Nike, a couple major sponsors who have threatened to pull dollars from the NFL and the NFL's getting involved in it. That's what you're seeing on Friday afternoon news dump. Here on 6 10 W. TV and Joe, What do you think? I think it's all crazy. I think Washington Redskins. Cleveland shouldn't change her. Name. I think everybody oughta boy type Pepsi and FedEx. And I can't remember the other company tonight. Nike their boycott. All them make them lose money. NFL is going to lose all the money. Everybody's going to lose money. This is just getting out of hand. Let's all get together. The Americans stopped tearing down statues and All this stuff. Oh, Joe, Thank you for your call. I appreciate your opinion. We are in an era of where if you does, as Lois said, if you disagree with someone,.

Torture report shows progress in Afghanistan, but much more needed

"We'll have to be some measures taken by the government to address torture. We are seeing some Pennzoil impacts of the steps taken by the government over the last two years. But while it's good to see that. There's some progress the oval big as will torture and treatment of conflict related detainees. Still disturbingly high in the sense that one insert sorry to interrupt. But in the sense that one in three detainees six hundred plus detainees who you? Nominate contacted the UN mission in Afghanistan. One in three say, they tortured in what way would they tortured, please they were tortured principally by beachings mainly by eating with hikes in payables, including on the feet, which is very painful, but doesn't leave any mocks now in some pick your location, they were all other forms of kickback even more serious including with. Electric shocks is expensive from ceilings very hot to stress positions for extended. Periods of time. Pulling genitals reported threats of death and other forms of sexual violence. And also, a very common form in particular. Locations in panda included being suffocated, eighty the tactic digested ahead or your Walser for throats, and one common form was be covered by a blanket people sitting on Thursday and back and being also maintains except potatoes, especially the okay, so that sounds absolutely horrific. And yet, you NAMA is saying along with the office of the high commission of human rights that this is an improvement since the last report, which I think was in two thousand sixteen and do you? I started reporting on this in two thousand ten in the previous record. And if report it quite right thing debut stock and plenty time. Time is actually being some improvement in that it's disturbing wanting three and keep the down. However from thirty nine percent four out of ten in the previous two years ago. And the that in in twenty eighty there was some progress in the among those into twenty eighteen twenty seven to say because the real treatment. So yeah, I think how headline is that some progress is very long way to go. There was also at the normative and the negatives. If no in that in twenty eighteen Afghanistan exceeded the optional protocol eventually they'd still and that these why because today seventeenth today because one year since the optional protocol was exceeded to near encouraging Afghanistan too. Establish a national preventive mechanism as they're required to do. So can I just jump in Richard just to us? What is the state's ability and capacity to actually help improve this, obviously, there's a willingness to do. So, but how capable is it of actually achieving what it needs to? Yeah. All post anti-drug commissioned nationally ups yet eight legislative began store Jerry metro check, nor so they became being Orage taking some sticks at a high level it needs to do more. And they have been training have been establishment of mechanisms you've been the key agencies responsible for torture, including bagels and ESPN. She's been candidates agency, the police and the military, so they're awesome steps in the right direction to develop capacity, we have found however that what we call key procedural and other legal safeguards that'd be Parke's often failing to uphold them lose, for example, access to lawyers. I contacted the family medical screen and information of rights for detainees as well. Proper investigations to follow up when are complaints. Go turn treatment buying the perpetrators held to account or if they are the measures. They can be such serious such an serious crime, very light. And that victims are really told about progress or up of cases, which remain mainly opaque. Can I also just ask and sorta to interrupt about accountability? Because it doesn't sound like what it was certainly one of the features of the report and High Commissioner of human rights. Michelle Bachelet said there must be accountability. Otherwise, this kind of thing will never stop. But that's not particularly new messages it. So what are your main hopes having released this fifth report? A main hopes that the commitments made the normal given negative level internationally domestically actually in. Lamented in practice 'cause you're not seen enough of that yet. We we have seen some signs of accountability. Would apparently Trump people removed from positions, according to the government response to the report, but be seeing very little if any serious investigations or prosecutions still carry now a crime in this country, but many fits me to take him on accountability. At the criminal Justice never would also found that nearly all of the Chinese the report for chapter saying that the total ill-treatment stops. Once they confessed. And this kind of culture is very concerning. Confessions obtained done before share essentially worthless. And they are illegally excluded as evidence in court. And so that is another thing. Yeah. Much change needs to take place needed to use torture to obtain a confession do. Those who are perpetrating these abuses actually realized that is it a case of educating everyone in detention centers that it just went hold water in a court of law. It connected, and I think you're right -education training are absolutely necessary. That has been among standing practice of using torture to the pain confessions, and I think that making that issues unacceptable amigo country to the penal code. They have better results. I think we are starting to see better results in twenty eighteen particularly with the intelligence of the NBS and note that they have new UCF introduced better training and policies on torture. Yeah.

Bears will release kicker Cody Parkey at the start of the new league year

"Let's talk about the Chicago Bears. They are going to release Cody parkey at the start of the new league year sources confirmed ESPN today. Sources are we are we surprised I mean, I don't think this is a surprising move. I think I think that the the timing of it the way that it just kind of came out of the blue from Ian Rapoport tweeting it out confirmed by Adam Schefter. So now, it's basically official until they do it. The league year starts in the middle of March. That's when the the free. Agency, period begins teams can sign players teams can trade players and teams can release players. And one of those players will be Cody parkey, it's going to cost the bears on the dead cap. Five point five point one five point one almost five point two million dollars. So they're going to basically have to pay to kickers next year. You're going to have to pay Cody parkey to go away. And then you're gonna have to pay whoever ends up being the bears kicker whether that's someone that they draft hopefully, not or someone that they sign whether it's veteran, whether it's an undrafted free agent, weather, whoever it is they're going to have to pay to kickers the article on ESPN dot com says parking miss eight field goals, including a forty three yard kick. That would have beaten the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round of the playoffs. We know that with his first season with the bears the bears signed parking for a four year four year deal including nine million dollars guaranteed last March bears coach Matt Nagy express disapproval with park Parke's decision to appear on the today show five days after missing his final attempt after. Filadelfia? The NFL network was first to report that parkey will be released from the Chicago Bears. So that's dot com and Abdali, you're right. Like it's not a surprise as a bears fan. I think we all saw this coming and you're right. They're going to have to pay to kickers again not much of a surprise because we all saw this coming the thing that I want to see is allow someone to win this job this summer, right? Undrafted rookie guys who are out there on the street right now have a kicking competition this summer in training camp allowed the guy to win that competition and that will be your kicker heading into the season. I don't want to spend any more big dollars on a kicker now. That's just my philosophy. I'm Chris black. And that's what I do if I'm running a football team. I don't spend on kickers. That's just why do I also don't draft running backs in the first round. And that's how I run my organization, and I continued drafting quarterbacks until I find the guy that's how I would run things. So I get it that Ryan pace has. Messed up. I'm glad that Ryan that Cody parkey will be gone, but let's not mess up again and pay big time for a kicker whose unnecessary. Let's just find someone who can get the job done probably at the league minimum. And let's go on our merry way. Because in all reality. I know what a lot bears fans are going to tell us is the reason they didn't win the Super Bowl this year. Was Cody parkey. And I think that that's not correct. I think the reason you lost that eagles game is because that kick did not go through. But you also had opportunities where you could win the football game. And not put it in your kickers. Put you see what I'm saying? So the bears have many opportunities going forward to be a very good football team. And I think overspending on a kicker after this mess up by Ryan pace in in signing, Cody parking in the first place. Let's not compound this issue. Let's just find the guy in training camp. And let's go forward as bears fans. Yeah. I think the reason that you lost that game is because Cody parkey had to make three. Kicks to set up that fourth kick. Right. And then Mitchell Trubisky didn't get his blank together until the second half of the game. And then drove them down the field in what should have been a game winning drive. And then ultimately you the team's effort was placed on Cody parkey. I'm not gonna sit here and let you slander Mitch Trubisky tonight Abdala the defense also had an opportunity to stop. Yeah. Did who is not a outstanding quarterback zone? Right. Like the bears defense. The best defense in the league could have shown up in the fourth quarter in stop the eagles. Offense, thus negating the necessity of Cody parkey to even have to make a kick out the end opportunities to beat the eagles in that football. Here's a will. Appease the fan base. You've already done the first thing you've cut Cody parkey, check, right. The next thing is not don't answer to the cries of the fans and say go sign Robbie gold Ella. Rodney gulp. Ravi builds. Great kicker. Great kicker. Wasn't a good kicker when he was cut by the bears. But ultimately said that's what he needed to get back. So don't call up and say, well, he was he he's being great. They would've won. No, they wouldn't have if they wouldn't have ever if they would cut him. It's a cutting him for him to go back and figure out a new to readjust his kicking to figure out a way to get right again. And he did. And now he's good kicker again. He's also gonna be expensive. So don't spend that money. Don't spend an extra five million dollars that extra nine. Dollars or whatever signing Ravi gold. Go find next Ravi gold. Spend the minimum like you said don't draft either. No don't be drafting kickers. We're not drafted running backs in the first round. Have a whole lot of traffic in this strap. We shouldn't be you shouldn't go out and try to draft a kicker because you have to address other issues on this team. And that's going to be done with those draft picks you find the undrafted free agent. You hold tryouts. You do whatever you do make it a Disney movie. I don't care. Find a kicker and find a way because you don't will. Appease the fan base ultimately

"And we watch film actors together game together that way there was one voice. Everybody heard the same thing. And then on top of that there's no miscommunication because every by there's no gray area. We hear one voice telling us exactly how it's supposed to be done. Now, we go out there and do it when somebody messes up, you know, you messed up it's funny that you say that because you look at the Niners here, and you think how many miscommunication? We're going on it seemed like throughout maybe it was because of inexperience or whatnot. But I'm sorry. I don't know how they ran things. But it seems like it was exactly how you said. The opposite of what Vic Fangio did. Yeah. I I don't know. Exactly. I get it. I would guess that way. Only because that's the way they did it in Seattle and that D coordinator came from Seattle. I remember half the DVD coach. He was there. When I was there. They did it the same way. When he was there everybody separate. So I'm I'm assuming it was that way. And like you said, I think the inexperience was a play in it. But at the end of the day when you have one voice in a room, and everybody's here in the same thing, you're not gonna have gray area. There is no there's not gonna guy there's not gonna be guys coming into meeting saying, well, I thought that if this has no because we heard exactly what he said last week. We know exactly how to play this this scenario or this scheme. There should be no questions about it. Everything's Cody Parke's fault everything. I'm Michael what would you say, Cody parkey was your was your teammate? What would you say to him after a game? You just busted your ass for sixty minutes. Only to have him miss it. I probably I probably would be upset initially. But at the end of the day, that's my teammate we've been here for sixteen weeks. We grinded I'm probably going to give him a hug because that's how I felt when I saw more than the way he handled the media after the game the way he answered questions with the professionalism. He did was like, wow, I really have more respect for you. But at the same time, I don't know if you guys seem where Rex Ryan said get up on him and said he went in on him and said that's his job. He supposed to make that kick. I don't feel sorry for him. He's a kicker. He doesn't come to meetings. He's not working as hard as we are throughout the day. You have one job. You gotta make that kick. And I agree with that to a certain extent. But at the end of the day, he is a human being and human beings, do this and do mess up. And if every kicker was supposed to make every kick then they probably would make more than they did this year. But as many problems as we've seen with kickers had this year, I'm not gonna just point the finger at him and say, it's. All your fault. Eleven people on the field every play and everybody's got a job to do. I couldn't agree more. Because I'm thinking about my playing days in baseball guy makes a mistake it end the game. And he doesn't take you know, owners to the whole thing. He's not accountable. You held a grudge on them for a few days. You kind of did it wasn't about being a bad team, bro. Like, really? But the moment someone's like. Yeah. Dude. I screwed up. I made the mental mistake. It was my fault. You get over it a lot quicker, and no it's the playoff game. But it just seemed like that would Cody parkey the way he handled it. You said it perfect. It was as good as you're going to do. And you just want to give them a hug 'cause you're like damn I don't know what he feels like God, this sucks. I don't wanna know what it's gotta be a horrible feeling. Yeah. You're right. Michael just a couple more minutes. I want to move onto the forty Niners and get your thoughts on brilliant topic. That's been buzzing around here for a couple of days Antonio Brown, not very happy with this situation in Pittsburgh. Lot of people thinking, okay, the forty Niners got a little bit of juice for the off season second round pick. What do you think about Brown coming over to the forty Niners? I think it doesn't matter. Whether he comes or not is Jimmy Garoppolo doesn't come back and play better than he played last year. And the only reason why say that is because Antonio Brown had juju Smith Schuster, a true number two across from had been less. Ben Rothlisberger a great quarterback in a great passer. Their team was terrible this year they flouted at the end of the year didn't make the playoffs. Same thing with Odell Beckham. His team is terrible. It doesn't matter. How good these receivers are unless a quarterback can get him the ball and the one good thing about the forty Niners is college Shanahan in Kyle Shanahan knows how to do that. So if as long as Jimmy G comes back healthy, and they get Antonio Brown stadium might sound like it sounded like last night here in about. Let's say seven eight months booth. Hey, if there's one guy out there that you saw last night that you love to see for the forty Niners. Who would it be? The detach. I forget his name Williams. Uh-huh. Yes. For him to get one of those de capitals or know somebody who could just Glenn Dorsey used to do with an will you way, and to do is they used to set up that wall in the middle of that Olin. And then the linebackers can run free untouched unscathed run to the ball hit the ball. That's that's what they need. I would love to see them get that especially with beef. Oh right there in the middle. And and with the maturity of Fred Warner man that would be I mean like you as you guys. See defense wins games. There's many offense points scored off season or all regular season play offs. Now. All of a sudden down to seventeen sixteen twenty one. Defense and the more you look back at Fred Warner season. What what did you see biggest strides that he made his he was? I mean you played all sixteen that's a huge deal number one. But what was it for you? Understanding the game understanding the scheme. He seems like a leader from day one. It seemed like he walked in. He understood his is well understood communication, and how to talk it was just more understanding where he was supposed to be knowing the scheme, and then being able to play fast and based on that, and you could see that towards the end of the year. The defense started playing better against teams like Denver even against the bears a little bit. They played a little bit better. And you could see he just understood where he was supposed to be in how he was supposed to fit in that scheme. And once you figure that out guys start playing fast, and that's where that's when football becomes easy. Because now you don't have to think you can just run and hit. Michael absolutely outstanding. It's always great to talk to you. Every time. I hop on with us. Thank you so much for the time. Having me on. It's always good talking to you. Are there is rumor forty nine or and Seahawks? Linebacker the great Michael will Hoy you can catch him on Twitter at Michael will Hoy at Michael Wilhoit on Twitter. He's doing this gig and Kansas. I didn't have to ask him about. He's doing this Monday morning hit for for a radio station out in Kansas. You know, he's he's fantastic. As an analyst. I think NFL and he's just starting to branch. Our I think thing was he played all linebackers spots. And he was a know. Paris would always tell me this dude studied everything he knew everything he knew everybody's spots where to be so analyzing and being able to do that he can speak for so many different positions. Right. I mean, the highly high IQ really intelligent, can I always like talking to Michael Wilhoit? I'm glad that he often with like talking to you. I don't know it keeps coming back on. So I think so right. I mean, we're cool. Right. Michael. Anyway, caviar is the number coming up at eight thirty. We'll continue our NFL discussion with Jennifer Lee Chan from NBC sports get back into the forty Niners. But next we gotta talk a little baseball talk. San Francisco Giants coming up on the sports leader,.
