"Alex Bregman finished two for four with a home run and two RBI in the Astros 5 to one win over the twins. Bregman's 7th Homer of the season started a three run second inning and the Astros led from that point on. I think we just came to the park and tried to battle today, trying to swing at good pitches and fortunate enough to do enough early in the game because they pitched really well. No kidding: California overtime law threatens use of grazing goats to prevent wildfires

"And overtime law in California could threaten the use of grazing goats to prevent wildfires. The park supervisor in West Sacramento, Jason Pablo, uses hundreds of goats to munch on long blades of yellow grass in the city. Essentially, mow those down to reduce the fire risk for the upcoming dry season. But new state labor regulations in California are making it more expensive for goat grazing services like Tim Aerosmith's company to operate. We can not fix the current legislation. We will be forced to sell these goats to slaughter and to the option yards. And we'll be forced out of business and probably filed for bankruptcy. Goat herders would be subject to the same labor laws as other farm workers. Hundreds of millions of dollars has been spent on putting out fires, very little has been spent on fire prevention. The changes at goat grazing workers would be entitled to overtime. I'm Ed Donahue.

Hiroshima bomb survivors on G7, want people to remember

"As world leaders came together last week for the G 7 meeting in Hiroshima Japan, atomic bomb survivors spoke of their experiences and the threat posed by nuclear weapons. Two elderly men who were babies when the bomb hit and a woman who was born soon after, explained the complicated feelings of watching leaders of current nuclear weapons powers, visiting the city, first hit by an atomic attack. Whose director of the Hiroshima prefecture confederation says he has no idea if the leaders fully understood what we are saying, but when they go home, I think they should open a explain to their people what survivors have gone through. Low-income tenants lack options as old mobile home parks are razed

"Mobile home parks can be an affordable option for people with very little money, but many older dilapidated ones are being raised to make way for new development. In downtown Phoenix's periwinkle mobile home park, Alondra Luis Vasquez pays four 50 a month for the lot she's lived on for ten years, but now has to leave. We're experiencing a lot of trauma, which we didn't really expect that to come along with an eviction. "A navy investigation triggered by a series of suicides is recommending big improvements in living and working conditions at shipyards. The probe calls for changes to housing, food, parking, Internet, and mental health and personnel programs. The investigation was launched after 7 sailors assigned to the USS George Washington died in a year while the carrier was docked at Virginia's Newport new shipyard, four were suicides, and while the probe says the suicides were not linked, they did reveal poor living conditions. The Return of Neo-Appeasement: Are We Doomed to Repeat History?

"The neo appeasement that's in the water. And everyone takes that as an insult. I don't mean it as an insult. I mean it is a genuine ideology that dominated in the 30s from Stanley Baldwin through Neville Chamberlain, which is you can satisfy dictators. You can actually do a deal with a dictator that they will stick to. That's back and it's deep. We saw Reagan beat it in the 80s with the deployment of the parachutes and the cruise missiles, but it's back and the neo appeasers don't want to deal with you. How is the committee going to get that to change? Well, the Democrats on the committee be vital to that change. Well, we're hoping to have our first set of policy recommendations out next week. We're working towards a strong set of recommendations that are focused on Taiwan, as well as a smaller set of strong recommendations that came out of our hearing on the ongoing Uyghur genocide, which leads to something that we're doing from our night. We're having a hearing tomorrow night on the CCP's ongoing economic aggression globally and how we level the playing field. We have this witnesses roger Robinson who designed and was key to the implementation of Ronald Reagan's economic warfare strategy against the Soviet Union. We have bob lighthizer, who served as U.S. trade representative and we have Eric Schmidt, who obviously was the head of Google and brings a private sector experience. And so we're hoping that hearing will then tee up our broader effort, which is the next phase of the committee's work, which is focused on selective economic decoupling and how we win this economic competition. Because a lot of the sentiment for engagement and appeasement comes from the private sector comes from Wall Street. It comes from K street. It comes from Hollywood. It comes from silly Silicon Valley, and there's this naive belief that we can just go back to the status quo ante that somehow we can go back to the good old days and return to the responsible stakeholder hypothesis or the more theme parks we open up in China, the more the better behaves Xi Jinping will become. I disagree with that, but we need to have a conversation with the private sector and get them to understand that there is no such thing as a private business in China.

An Interview With One of London’s Most Well-Known Black Cabbies

"I'm Tom Hutley. I'm 31 years old, London taxi driver. So in 2020, I had a bit of an identity crisis. Of course, you know, pandemic happens, stay at home, you're not allowed to go to work. So I'm thinking, well, if I can't drive my taxi, what am I? What can I do? So I got on YouTube and I was like, I'm just going to make videos about taxi driving, you know, the nuanced stuff, you know, what are passengers like? 75 ,000 people subscribe to Tom's videos, and over 6 million people have watched him driving around London. Most people who do watch Tom are surprised by something. They are surprised that he entirely navigates London without a GPS. Some cab drivers do use a GPS in their cab, but it's more used as a tool. We're not being directed by it. My analogy I would always use is that if you look at a professional chef, they can go into the kitchen, they can make any sort of like, you know, standard kind of recipe, and they can just do it by like intuition. I'll have a pinch of that, I'll do a bit of this, or I'm cooking for this person, I might change the recipe a little bit. Whereas the sat nav, using a sat nav is like going from a cookbook. We can all cook from a cookbook, but it might not turn out as well as what professional chef does. And the professional chefs can be more efficient, they might be able to get it done sooner, have that bit of flair about it. And that's what it's like being a taxi driver. From day to day, the same route I will take one day might not be the same the next day, even 10 minutes apart, you know, because something might have happened on the street, which then influences a small corner of London. And then that then has knock on effects across the rest of London. So how on earth does Tom navigate 25 ,000 streets in London without needing a GPS? Well, he's studied something called the knowledge. So I'll just introduce the knowledge of London. It's capital T, capital K. It's fascinating, even just the name of it just sounds so like prestigious, the knowledge and I'm like, wow. And it's the normalised process examination that us London cab drivers has had since around 1851. Its routes go back to the great exhibition held in Hyde Park during the reign of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. And basically the cab drivers, we've had taxis in London since the 17th century, we was first licensed by Oliver Cromwell, but taxi drivers would frequently get drunk, they would crash their carts of horses and stuff. It was astonishing that we still have a taxi trade today based upon those Hackney carriage drivers of the 18th, 19th century. So they brought in this formalised process called the knowledge whereby the drivers had to learn the streets that they were driving on. So if someone said taxi driver, take me to, they would know exactly where they were going. But yeah, effectively a character building exercise because of how long it would take to get your badge. In those sort of days back in the times of the great exhibition, it might have taken a year or so to do the formalised study to then eventually get to a badge. In my time, it took three years and the average sits around between two and four years. And as we can allude to that the knowledge basically involves learning just about anywhere within London within a six mile radius of Charing Cross, which is roughly the geographical centre of

"Nobody on this planet could believe in. Christ jesus for you. There's a reason why so many of our children as they go off to college. Don't return to the church of their you because they never learned to have their own. They had their parents faith or maybe their grandparents faith but they need to learn how to have their faith. because they're gonna stand before god in judgment and so when we think about loads or or burdens in this life that only week at bear. Nobody can believe in christ for you. Nobody can repented the send your life for you. Nobody answer for you when you stand before god in judgment for each one must give an account of his life before a holy and righteous god and that means that nobody gets lost in the crowd that means that nobody gets to hide behind others then nobody gets to hide behind organizations because each one will stand or fall on his own merits. Each one will stand or fall based on the choices that they make in their life and choices could have either positive or negative consequences to them and so there is a man back in the colonial days who was a preacher. His name was john and he wrote in a diary in his diary. He said he said. I resolved that every man should do right. Whatever the cost his second resolve was whether it whether any other man does right or not. I will so help me get and i love that. Because that is the supreme being the supreme business of every christian and every man or woman child who follows god makes jesus the lord of their lives that everyone will bear his own load. Everyone should bear his own burden and so when he says whether any or other man does right or not by the will of god i will for god knows us as individuals. He judges us and he he he knows our thoughts. He knows our actions. There's nothing that's done in secret for. Knows all things and so whether anybody else does right or not. We as christians must be determined to do what is right whether anybody in the world is true or not. We must be determined as christians to be faithful and true as individuals begins first and foremost with us as individuals. So that's why when we read what it say in galatian chapter six in verse five. Each one was bear is owned load. Bears owned burden. That's what it's talking about. Because we know that because when you go back to verse four and if i go back if you slides and you were to look at this notice that verse four says that each one must examine his own work and then he will have reason for boasting but only regards to yourself not enjoyed another so you need to examine your life examined. The fruit of your life randy said this morning we can be fruit inspectors and we should examine the fruit either that we produce as righteous individuals. Do we produce good deeds or do we produce bad deeds. Do we produce bad works. Are we living in said. Are we the bad tree. Bears bad fruit. And so these are the things that we're looking to talk about here this morning because the highest contribution that we as individuals as we bear our own load can make any community. Whether it's lincoln park trenton. South grade allen park woodhaven no matter where you live each and every one of us the greatest Contribution that we can make to. Our communities is a life well lived a life. Well lift a life that is lived in righteousness with high integrity and high moral character. And we need to offer the world the right kind of life and the most beautiful portrait that we see in five words of jesus is said he went about doing good. He went about doing good and so should we. Someone once said that one example is worth thousand arguments. And i want you to think about that for a second. One example is worth a thousand arguments. Well let me give you an example. There's little story in the old testament is called sodom and gomorrah. Do you remember how many righteous individuals were needed in order to save an entire village of people telling people were needed so i asked the question. Would you been one of the ten because what they say is the greatest gift that we give to our individual communities to the world. A life. Well-lived are we the righteous tree or the battery are we producing righteous. Good works we're reducing bad food meaning son in our lives. It's you press forward. That story to the twenty first century over here in lincoln park michigan. And we all live in lincoln park and we need a ten righteous individuals to save the entire community of people. Could you be counted as one of those. Then you can answer that question. But don't forget. God knows all things he knows. If you're living faithful he knows if you're the good tree he knows if you're the battery. He knows the fruit. That's being produced from your life. And so the the most one of the most beautiful five word portrait of jesus is that he went about doing good. Another example would be jesus had twelve apostles. And then i know but when we think about the twelve men they went outside after jesus given a commission he goes back to have any gives them a commission the holy spirit comes in them and they turn the the world right side up living amongst a torturous regime like the roman empire in those twelve individuals. Along with all the disciples they went out into the world and made a world of difference. And so when you think about what i said a moment ago one example is worth a thousand eight thousand arguments how we live. Our lives matters. It's so it's very important that we understand these things the best contribution that we could ever offered this world is to is to set the right example and think about the second aspect of this and now we get to verse too because when you get a galatian and you get to chapter six and you you look at verse two. It tells us that we are to bear one another's burdens and thus fulfill the law of christ right. Well what is he saying here well. Burdens oftentimes should be shared with others. And we'll talk about this here this morning. It is also important to check the context of this passage because it says in verse five. That only only you can bear your own. Load your own burden but yet verse two so that we could bear the burdens of others and that we should in so many of the problems that we have in religion in the church is because scriptures have been taken out of their proper context and so we go back and we look at galatian six one. In what did it say in the verse before verse two it says brethren if a man be overtaken in a fault it's talking about sin you who are spiritual meaning right just restore such a one in the spirit of gentleness considering yourself less you be tempted brother. That's what we're talking about a bible study this morning. That is brothers in christ as sisters in christ that we are to go to one another when we find sin in the church and when we find sin that is a glaring obvious. one another's lives. We are to go each other to each other individually and that they don't listen to you then you take two or three more so they can be witnesses. They don't listen to them. You take it to the church. They listen to the church. Then the you allow those christians those brothers and sisters who have gone apostate to be like tax tax collectors heathens and so what is the point here when we look at this passage of scripture. The apostle paul says that we are to bear one another's burdens dust fulfilling the.

"Our country and learn about all the rising percentages of depression, suicide, sin, crime, volatility in society, towards people who think differently than you, it becomes very clear, very quickly what the world needs and his name is Jesus. But it begins and ends. Not only in the word of God, but it begins and ends with you. Every single one of us hear this morning have a role to play. Every single one of us in this building this morning are integral to the furtherance of the congregation here at Lincoln park, but more than that, the universal kingdom of God. We all have to do our parts. And it starts with stepping out in faith. By sharing the word of God and by living out your faith and doing some of the things that I set forth as an example here this morning. Brothers and sisters as disciples of Christ we must all take the living word of God out into the world because God has said, go. And share. And teach and preach. And so I leave you with this this morning. When's the last time you've went? And you shared and you taught, when's the last Bible study you've had? When's the last time you sat down with the family member or a friend and had a Bible study? I know that most of the time people are going to say no. But that's why living your life as a Christian is so very important. But when's the last time you made an offer, I know many people will say no, but when's the last offer you made? With a family member, a friend or a coworker. I'm not talking about going out and talking to strangers. People you know. Ask yourself that question. Along with the last time I had somebody in my home with the express purpose to build a stronger bond with those individuals. Because brethren, that's where it begins. We are the living representatives of Jesus Christ. And he needs us to go into the world. He's done his part. Now it's time for us to do our part. Are you willing to stand up, share your faith in lip sacrificially for the kingdom of God? If you're hearing this message this morning, brethren, there's a challenge that has been set forth. And I pray to God that each of us accept that challenge. Because our eternal destination hangs in the balance. We will all stand before Christ Jesus. It tells us, and second Corinthians chapter 5 verse ten. And it says we will give an account of our lives. What do you want that account to read? You get to decide what Jesus sees. Brother, sisters, if you hear this morning and you need the prayers of the church, you can come forward this morning. We'll pray for you. It will help you in any way that we can. You may be may have been away from the church for a time. And you wish to be restored because you know you haven't been living for God. We know you haven't been living the Christian lifestyle and you want to make today the day that I start moving forward. You can come forward this morning and do that. We'll pray for you. And you may have not been a child of God. Yeah, you may have not come to Christchurch. You may not have been washed in the blood of the lamb. Well, you have an opportunity to be baptized this morning. For the forgiveness of your sins to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and God himself will answer to the kingdom as we come in as we stand and sing..

"Good morning, everybody. Everybody having a good weekend. Amen, all right. Well, yesterday we had our trunk or treat here and I just want to thank you to all the volunteers. I know Ashley and them are spearheading it. And it went out. It went off perfectly, and it was a wonderful time that was had by all. And so I want to thank everybody that came out to have some good times and have some laughs. And so it was a wonderful day yesterday. And as you see the various fellowship opportunities that are on that are in the bulletin, let's try to support those to the best of our abilities because I tell you what there's no better time and no better group of people that I can think to be around than our family here at Linkin Park. And so as you look around right now, we should look around the auditorium, right? We have a pretty good crowd here this morning, but we have some holes over here. We got some holes over here. And I know we have some sickness in the congregation right now. We're at that time of year now where you're entering into the fall time, the seasonal allergies. Obviously, we're still in a pandemic. We know about COVID, but we also are entering the flu season. So let's check on our brothers and sisters in Christ. I know that we have several families that are under the weather right now. We don't have to go in and be exposed, but you know what we can do? We could drop things off on the porch. We could run the ring doorbell and run. If you don't have to run. But we can ring the doorbell, drop some things off on the porch, let them know that they're there. We could drop some meals off. Let's check on them. Let's see if they have any needs. Because I tell you what, there's nothing better than a lift and lift your spirits when you're not feeling good, then know that somebody cares. Amen. And so as we get in the word here, this morning, if you look on the screen behind me, it says be careful how you live. You may be the only Bible some people ever read. Patrick, you read that. So be careful how you live. You may be the only Bible. Some people ever read. And I'm not going to tell his story, but we are having a funny little conversation before after Bible study this morning. And I told him, I said, hey, pay attention to the server this morning, because you might find this helpful. And it was a funny story. But we look at this this morning. We talk about the word of God. We had a wonderful Bible study this morning where we were digging into the word trying to understand what Luke was teaching us and Luke chapter 6. And to me, it all begins and ends in the word of God. We know that the word of God, it guides us. It gives us direction, it gives us comfort. It transforms our very lives. It pricks the hearts of the open minded. And the word of God, it gives us direction for our soul, doesn't that? It gives direction for our attitudes. Our temperaments. It gives direction to the sin problem that we have in our very lives. And so the word of God needs to be shared with all of our loved ones. It needs to be shared with our friends. It needs to be shared with the world. And that's why I kind of went off track a little bit on Bible study this morning, but it kind of all came full circle. And in the Bible study this morning I said, what was the point when Jesus did all that the father had commanded and what is the point for us that we are to go out and share the message that Jesus share the message that he was commanded to teach at the preaching to speak that the father had given him, and then he gives us a command at the end of the gospel and Mark chapter 16, 15 and 16, Matthew 28th, 18 through 20 to go and preach, go out into the world to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, share the message with others. Why? Because it's the one of God that your wrecks are very lives. It's the word of God that gives us comfort. That transforms us in the eyes of friends family and coworkers. And so brethren, if others you encounter, you know, if let's just be honest, right? Everybody that we encounter isn't always going to want to hear about your Jesus. Amen? Everyone you encounter isn't always going to want to hear about your faith. So I need you to understand that we have to be very careful at that moment in time. You know why? Because you may be the only Bible somebody ever reads. What do I mean by that? You may be the only Bible that somebody ever reads. What I mean by that is how you live. How you love. How you forgive. How you interact with people. How you speak, the various ways you respond to all the various life situations that are throwing at us. Every aspect of your life will be unfold display for everybody to witness and everybody to see. And so when I say that your life may be the only Bible that somebody reads, they should be able to see and understand what the scriptures teach based on the changes, the transformation process that takes place in your life as you as you internalize the word of God. You're all of a sudden are more forgiving person. You all of a sudden, you don't use the same language. You speak differently. You act differently. You love differently. You're willing to forgive because you understand all my God has forgiven you. You're all of a sudden your life is transforming and blossoming before the eyes of your friends, your family members, your coworkers, and those in the world. And so what I mean by your life may be the only Bible somebody ever reads, they shouldn't have to read about forgiveness when they understand how you're willing to go above and beyond to forgive them with the transgressions that they may have committed against you. About the love that you have. Not any type of love, but sacrificial love. Rather in the world doesn't know sacrificial love, like the church should know sacrificial love, amen. And so when you look at this by living out your faith, your life, your life should be a wonderful blessing. To everybody you come in contact with. We are called to be a blessing because we know that we're going to receive eternal blessings. And so in the here and now, we live our lives as a blessing to all we come in contact with. That's what it means to be careful how you live your life because you may be the only viable somebody ever reads. We need to make sure brethren that we're not a bunch of pew sitters. We need to be active in our faith. The guy calls us to be active in our faith. You're going to hear me to say this morning, like I said in Bible study, we have been called to go. Go where? Out into the mission field of the world and do what? Preach. Teach. And share your faith. And allow your transformed life, your changed mind to be the example that everybody sees. They say, man, I know Anthony, I manual Anthony from years ago, and he's a different dude now. He ain't the same guy. That's your goal. That's what you should strive for. So people can see that he's not the same man that he used to be. There's something different about him. But what is it? Where did that transformation start? What caused the transformation? And so brother, that's why I said, it all begins it ends in the word of God..

"We could call one another. You can call somebody and just take a few moments to say, hey, listen, I don't have a lot of time to talk man, but I just want to let you know brother that the lord puts you on my heart today. I want you to know that, hey, I hope you're having a good week. If I could do anything for you, please let me know. I'm gonna be praying for this week. I hope you have a good week, brother. I gotta get back to work, but I just want to let you know I was thinking about you. I guarantee you, if you did something like that. And same Matt's having a bad day. Just for a second, you're going to put a smile on that man's face. Even if it's just for a second, brother and we need to take more opportunities to send out letters to send out cards to make phone calls. It's a do all that we can to encourage each other. Sometimes the best way to encourage others is just by listening. Like listening to somebody, not always even offering device advice. If there's one thing I learned about marriage, many times my wife doesn't want me to solve all of her problems. She just wants me to listen to her problems, which is difficult for me, because I like to solve problems. But I learned that over the years, that sometimes it's better to listen and not offer the advice. They just sometimes want to vent. And sometimes we're in the same boat as well. Brother, that's an opportunity we have. We have brethren, like the bone family, and others who've lost loved ones recently. Guess what's coming up around the corner? Holidays. You know when it's the most difficult time anniversaries of the death, birthdays, holidays. Wouldn't it be great if people glide with their way to encourage them by knowing that somebody's suffering because the loss of a loved one that they just lost and invite them into your home for the holidays? Say, listen, I know you're hurting. But I also want you to know that you're not alone. And that I'm here for you. And then I want you to share in this meal with my family. And maybe they'll come maybe they won't. But what is the point? The point is that was offered, and they're going to remember that it was offered. Rather, there are so many ways that we can encourage one another if only will think about it as the scriptures teach. I get the hebrews three and 13. And it says but encourage each and other or to encourage each other every day and to help each other so none of you will become hardened because of because sin has tricked you. Rather and encouragement is to be a daily thing. I remember one Sunday morning and I'm gonna have to shut this down because I got so much more, but I'm already out of time practically. But I remember one Sunday morning. You guys have heard me say that if I'm leading singing, we're at the bottom of the barrel. It's just a fact, right? Some of us have abilities that others don't. That wasn't one of the gifts I received from my heavenly father. I was at sunset when I first came to the lord church and I was over there and we were joking around with some of our brothers and sisters at Christ's friends after service about how bad I sing and I mess up the words all the time. It's on the screen and I mess up the words, still mess it up. And this one elderly lady, I'll overheard our conversation. And she's so sweetie, I just want you to know you keep saying it. Because I guarantee you, if you keep saying, you're gonna get better. And I remember that. It's stuck with me. Literally a year went by. And I was sitting in the pew one Sunday morning like you guys are today and we were just got done singing to him and I'm not Christy with my elbows. I'm getting better. She looked me square in the eyes and says he'll never gonna happen. Obviously, encouragement isn't one of her strong suits. And so what is the point, brethren? The point tells me and I'm just gonna look at a couple more passages. We'll shut this down a little bit earlier. In progress, 12 to 25, it tells me on the screen behind me that worry ways a person down, but it encouraging word does what? Cheers up a person. I encouraging word cheers up a person. Listen to this, that was written by king Solomon. And king Salomon and Roberts ten and 18 through 21, he said, he who conceals hatred and has lying lips. And he who spreads slander is a fool. When there are many words, transgression is unavoidable. But he who restrains his lips as wise, the tongue of the righteous is like a choice silver. The hearts of the wicked is worth little. The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of understanding. Brothers and sisters, that came from the wisest man of his time. And that the tongue of the righteous is like a choice silver. A choice silver that's always looking for individuals that they can encourage that they can lift up because we're to love one another. Serve one another. Forgive one another. Brothers and sisters encouragement is something that is a great and a powerful gift. We need to wake up every morning and we need to be determined to do one thing. It can be a phone call, it can be a letter. It could be a card. It can be picking somebody up for a doctor's appointment. It could be whatever it is. Think of ways. That's what the scripture says. We need to think of ways that we can encourage one another to be purposeful in our encouragement. Rather and instead of focusing on all the negativity of the 24 hour news cycle, we need to focus in on God his word and his great many wonderful promises. If you do that and you add love forgiveness and encouragements, sacrificial love agape type of love into your faith and into your daily lives, I guarantee you, you're going to be like a bright light in a sick and dying world. Rather and it's time to stand up. It's time to get out of these pews here in a few minutes. We're going to go out into the mission field of the world. And I want you to ask yourself, what can you do today? To make a difference. What can you do today to put a smile on somebody else's face? You may be sitting here this morning, and you may be one of the ones that are discouraged. You may be struggling in a marriage struggling in life, struggling with your kids struggling with your finances, struggling in your faith. I don't know what it is you're struggling with, but what I do know is we have a room full of brothers and sisters in Christ, who are here today and have come together with the express purpose of worshiping God, but to further than that to also encourage and love one another. We are a family here at Lincoln park. And as a family, we are to lift one another up. So if you're hurting, you can come forward today. The elders will come forward. You could speak with them. You could talk with them. They'll meet with you and they'll set up a plan to help you in whatever way it is we can. But you may be sitting here this morning and you're not a child of God. And you have all this regrets and you feel dirty because of the scent in your lives. Rather, you can get rid of that. You're this morning. You can have your sins washed away by going down into the waters of baptism and you can be raised back up out of the water as a new creation, your sins washed away. You receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. And God himself will add you to the kingdom. Come forward if that is your desire, as we stand and sing the song of invitation..

"Put the phone away and talk. And so that's something that we're seeing that it's becoming more and more of a problem in society. And so there's too many people that are experiencing let down and discouragement. And they don't feel like they can have somebody that can turn to. You can't get that same effect on social media. As you can in the flesh, there's nothing that can replace a hug from somebody who loves you. And cares about you. There's nothing that can replace that listening ear when you got something going on in your life and you need that person. You need that one person that you can talk to. Not on a private message that I send you on Facebook, but now on a one on one basis. And so brother and proverb 17 and 22 tells us a joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones. And why is that such a crucial passage of scripture? Because when we become discouraged, there will be times when our spirit starts to dry up. Our spirit starts to dry up and there will be times when our strength is gone. We don't feel physically or emotionally or spiritually as strong as we once did. And what usually happens when that happens, we start to withdraw ourselves from one another. We start to withdraw from worship. We start through withdrawal from fellowships and Bible studies. We start to seclude ourselves in our homes. We start to cancel plans that we once enjoyed. Why? Because depression is setting in. And because I start to feel sorry for myself. And I start to allow all this constant stream of thoughts to be fueled by negativity instead of positivity. And so brother and when we look at this here this morning, once in a while, I'll sit down and I'll meet with various individuals and if you've been an elder or a minister for any length of time, you do counseling from time to time. Individually as well as Mary's and couple counseling. And sometimes after I'm done, I'll sit there for a few minutes. Sometimes I'll pray, sometimes I'll just take a few breaths. And I'm usually left astonished at the amount of hertz that people are dealing with in their lives. But they're not reaching out generally to others whom they have a good personal connection with for advice. Because too often, the advice they get is worldly advice. And not godly advice. And so brother and we think about this. All around us in our communities are various peoples. Various people who are dealing with marriage troubles. Marriages are falling apart. Finances are a mess. They're worried about their jobs. They're worried about their kids. They're worried about the sin in their lives. They have regrets huge regrets from things they've done in the past. Their health isn't when it used to be. Their life, the life that they live in our lives that we live have a way of wearing us down. And when we become discouraged, when we become disappointed and depressed, what do we usually do? We seclude ourselves. That's exactly what Satan wants you to do. Say it and want you to think that nobody cares. He wants you to think that you're not as important. He wants you to think that you're kind of like the oddball out now, and he wants you to start to pull away from the church. He wants you to start to pull away from family members. Start to pull away from various friends. Rather, and when we start complaining and feeling sorry for ourselves, Satan begins to win. Because our faith begins to suffer. And when our faith begins to suffer, well, then we start to find excuses about why we can't make it to worship. Why we can't make it the Bible study. Why we can't make it to church fellowship opportunities. And why we stop actually fellowship being with our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Satan begins to win if he could get you to seclude yourself off from the brethren. It's sad when that happens, brother, because that's when we need each other the most. God calls us to be a unified body of believers. And that seclusion is should be the last thing that ever happens. We should never be secluding ourselves from one another. Instead of secluding ourselves, we need to come to God. We need to rely on his strength and we need to rely on the strength of the saints that are sitting in this pew here this morning. And so when you're struggling here at Lincoln park, don't seclude yourself off. Don't start to miss and forsake worship service and Bible study and fellowship opportunities. We probably had a dozen people, maybe 12, 15 people had showed up at the Kaggle berry farms yesterday. We had a great time the ones who showed up. And if you weren't there, you could have had a great time too if you were there. Brother and so I encourage you to take advantage of it as many of those type of opportunities as you can. I know sometimes life gets in a way and you can't attend every event, but you should try your best to attend as many of the fellowship opportunities as you can. And so when we look at this, remember what Jesus said why is it so very important that we and that we show the love to one another that we encourage one another that we lift up one another? Because Jesus said in John chapter 13 of her 35, he says your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples. And so brother and were to be a bright light in the world a world of darkness and sin and of depression and rising suicidal rates, people need to see that there's something different about us here at Lincoln park. There's something different about the way we carry ourselves. The joy that we have, even in difficult moments, knowing that even though when we lose a loved one, that we could take joy and comfort knowing that they're in Paradise that they went on to receive the reward, selfishly, yes, we want to hold on to them. And we want their for as long as we can. But they're now in a place that we all desire to get to. And so we can find the level of comfort in that, even though we're still sad. And so brother and we think of the word of God, we think of how we need to love one another and times of difficulty and the times of joy. We need to cry at each other's shoulders and lift each other up. We need to be willing to laugh with each other and to do all that life all that happens in life. Together as a unified body, constantly encouraging one another because that will show the world that we're Jesus's disciples. It makes me think of what the apostle Paul had to say. The way that we could show our love for Christ is by loving others without reservation. And first, thessalonians in chapter 5 and adverse 11, it tells us that we are to encourage one another. Encourage one another and build each other up just as they were already doing. But he gives us as a reminder. Some of us do a great job of building each other up and encouraging one another. I mentioned what Randy does for me every Wednesday and Sunday. Every time I preach a lesson, every time I do a Bible study, he always has a word of encouragement. It makes me think of calcium, who's gone out to his reward when I was an Allen park. A wonderful brother in Christ. That man encouraged me and encouraged me and encouraged me constantly. And what a joy he was to my life. Because there are days where there were days where I didn't feel like I did my best. I didn't feel like I presented the message to the best of my ability. Then maybe I could have done more at times. And yet he finds ways to lift you up into encourage you when he was on this earth. And why do we do that? So others can know that we are the disciples of Christ. And so brother and I makes me think of a Jesus had to say.

"All right, just doesn't sound the same as what it normally is. So Jim is gonna turn me up a little bit. If you look on the screen behind me, this morning's lesson is gonna go into new direction. We've done a series of sermons over the last couple months, looking at first and second Peter. And why those letters were written why they're important, but now I want us to look at something else here this morning. You think we live in a time when we might need a little extra encouragement? You think there's some frustration in society? Do you think there's some problems in life? Is anybody tired of the pandemic? Right, we're tired of the pandemic. Life is difficult, life is busy. Our careers are hobbies, our children. I mean, we run ourselves ragged and I want us to really stop and consider for a little bit about encouragement. I want us to really look at the art of encouragement. I tell you what, here at Lincoln park, I think we do a pretty darn good job when it comes to encouragement. We have lots of us within this auditorium who like to like to encourage. I've said before, I said, Randy's got almost like my burnaby. You know why I say that? Every Sunday and every Wednesday, even now that I'm down a Tennessee and I do my lesson and I summed it up here for you guys. I still get a text from him on most Wednesdays, encourage me about the lesson. And it'll always make sure he comes up to me afterwards and gives me some form of encouragement about the lesson. And every time I see him, he's trying to offer encouragement. And I love that because really, isn't that really what the Bible calls us to do? How can we become that unified body of believers that family a believers if we're not always looking for ways to grow in the area of encouragement? And although we do a good job here at Lincoln park, we can always be better, right? And there's some of us that probably do some more encouraging than well, probably others. And so that's what I want us to concentrate on here this morning. I want us to think of encouragements. And I'm sorry that Jim used a slide that replicates and kind of really looks like me this morning. I didn't ask him to do that. But I wanted it to be an encouragement for you all to know that you chew. Can look like that if you just put a little time in the gym. So while we look at this, like this life have a way of kind of just bringing us down, right? Life has a way of weariness down. And when we become discouraged what usually is one of the some of the first things that happen when we become discouraged, what's one of the first things I usually have. And what do you think, Russ? Faith? Face starts to kind of wander a little bit, but don't we also start to start complaining a little bit? Anybody here ever complain? Anybody here have some difficult days and you start to complain? Well, that is usually something that starts to happen. We start to feel sorry for ourselves. Has anybody during the pandemic? Kind of followed yourself complaining and feeling sorry for yourselves? Has anybody who watches the regular news, whether a local or national news, do you start to kind of complain and feel sorry for yourself? It starts to feel sorry for this nation. And so brother and we need to know that complaining and feeling sorry for ourselves is something that's really inherent in humanity. But it doesn't have to be. Because there's this little stream of thoughts that go through your head all the time. And psychologists in them they'll call it self talk. And you get to determine that little stream of thoughts as I'm speaking right now. There are some of you that have a stream of thoughts that are going through your mind, some of them may be focused on encouragement, some of it might be focused on something else completely that has nothing to do with this worship service. But there's always thoughts going through our mind. You get to determine if they're positive or negative. You get to determine what you're doing with that little stream of thoughts that's constantly going through your mind. And so in today's world, it appears that everyone is becoming more and more connected. Well, you think about it, most people have smartphones. Most kids nowadays have smartphones. And it would appear that through social media and all the various platforms that were more connected than at any other time in human history. What's the problem with that? We're becoming more and more disconnected, personally. In the flesh, personal relationships. One on one fellowship time. Why? Because I got 700 Facebook friends. Even though I haven't seen probably 678 of them in 25 years, I got 700 Facebook friends. Even though I have no idea what's going on in their lives, I have 700 some Facebook friends. I really don't. But I'm sure there are people out there that do. What's my point? I don't care how many Facebook friends you have. If you're not interacting on a one on one, face to face in the person and the flesh relationships and interaction with people. While we are more connected at this point in time from a technological standpoint at any other time in our history of the world, we are dealing with higher levels of depression and higher levels of suicide than at any other time. Well, how could that be? We got all these social media things that people love my posts and they think my posters are funny and they think they're so great and I have all these social media friends and I have this great social media following. And yet, I'm suffering with depression. And suicidal thoughts. Well, how can that be? Brethren has God designed us to be separate and apart from one another or did God intend for us to become to spend time together. The God desire for children to leave their mothers or fathers and for sons, find a wife, it's a cleave to their wife and become one flesh, both in mind, body and spirit. When God created mankind on the 6th day, and then we know in genesis chapter two, when God created man, he said, it is not good for man to be alone. When you want to punish somebody in the judicial system in the system, where do they put the criminals when they really want to punish them? It's solitary confinement. Why? Because we know as human beings we're designed got designed us in order to be in fellowship with one another. So the worst thing you could do to a criminal is to separate them from the masses. And to make him be in an area that he's by himself. Why? Because what usually sets starts to set in regrets and depression and all these other things that go along with it. So as I said earlier today. I don't care how many Facebook friends that somebody has. It will never make up for the lack of personal in the flesh relationships with individuals. And brother, and that's something that we need to really fully consider. Because we're made with the desire to connect with people on a personal level. Don't people feel good about themselves when they feel like they belong? I mean, those doesn't it feel good after, and then I know sometimes we don't always want to break up our routine break up our schedule and schedule some fellowship time or go visit somebody. But how many times, even though you really didn't want to do it, but after you did it, you felt so much better. Like, man, I'm glad I went out of my way and I went and met with so and so because I actually, I actually enjoyed it. I felt good about it. And so we have to remember rather than that, while we are connected more from a technological standpoint, we're less connected personally and one on one basis than at any other time in our history. Young kids are having trouble because they have a hard time knowing how to talk with one another nowadays. I can't tell you every time you go to a restaurant every time you're out in public, you'll see a family of 5 sitting around the table and they're all on their phones, doing this. They're not even talking. They're not even enjoying the people that are literally right there in their presence. I had a friend who used to come by once in a while. And so some of the Christian fellowships over my house. And he would always be playing words with Friends. Anybody play words with Friends? And he would be playing words with Friends while we're all setting their talking. I said, why don't you use your words with your Friends? I mean, we're literally sitting three feet from one another and you're playing a game on your phone..

And then we're gonna take that from talking about walk into. I think a thing that we can all relate to we. We talk about the word change. That's a scary word for some of us change but before we get into this morning for those of you like what in the world has walked for water. Well if you haven't been here for the last twelve years that your new than this being the thirteenth walk for water. Maybe this will help understand so last year and this year we've gone with the theme chains the cycle and you'll have shirts in some of your wearing the shirts and on the back or four icons and that is what to look at those real quick because when you wear the shirt you blast questions. I don't want to be like. Oh i don't know where to shirt comfortable. There's four logos on their done. What you like. The first one is the need for those who struggle to have water hunt daily basis that little person silhouette with the bucket turned over. Just a daily struggle that those around the world go through the don't have access easy access to clean. Water the icon is it comes down to the little of point you to two little silhouettes walking and that's what we're doing today. That's what you all have done for thirteen years including today. The nikon breezy around that water dropped with a nice little squiggly lines and that represents clean water. Which is why we walk for water. And then my favorite is. They're choreographing in the church of christ but the celebration the dancing that takes place at the will but also when we rejoice. So maybe this afternoon. When you're walking you get done. Walk in your four miles. You might still have energy to celebrate the fact that you're making a difference but ultimately that is and i've countless times when i've been to haiti in other places and i've seen someone at a will when the water pumps for the first time or if it's been repaired and flows again i've witnessed cure joy in that kind of celebration and then the aero. Obviously the cycle is changed. Now that cycle that we're talking about is a cycle that they get up every morning every afternoon. They'd take their journey that get dirty water. They get sick in the cycle starts over and over but with you all everyone else helping to change the cycle the cycle is broken and subtly. Thus who here this morning obviously here for common purpose we give the credit to god. And that's where the arrow points up. So that is what your shirt icon means and that is what we'll be doing today but i wanted to show you this for those of you have not worked lie. We walk could you imagine that is your water source. There's a lot of words that can be described but difficult insane dangerous but guess what's in there something. We need for life water. That looks yummy. I mentioned this class this morning. Kind of we kinda laughed. Because i know you guys experienced rainy and dry season but around the world. There's literally rainy and dry season. That is a riverbed in dry season. It'll continue. The water will continue to go down that a river bid many in the rainy season. Where you see brown is full of water is a river bid so the struggle is real but last year we worked together but we were still together and i just wanted to share a couple of memories last year. Madness had this deal still detention pitcher. But you all still found a way to walk for water in various locations. It looks like you walk in december tennessee. With all the geared murray. I don't know i. I usually look like that in october. When i come up for the ball and you guys are short. So i don't know must have been miller chillier and there you go just a flashback to show you it helps you remember the fine even though we're apart you still made that difference and that is what you walk for my favorite pitcher. We don't usually get that high quality photos back but in ghana there was a professional photographer taking pictures at some well. So so that is why we walked for water in the theme is change the cycle and this morning though. We're going to go down a different kind of theme with that. We're gonna talk about changing the cycle in our lives. I'm just gonna leave that up to the rest of the time you can see that in the background. But let me ask you this. When jesus came to this earth. Why did he come. You may very well say. He came to change the cycle in the gospel of john throughout the gospels. We read many accounts where we encountered jesus going into a situation and bringing chains do not specifically in john chapter five. Where we're gonna go to our story this morning to look if you want to go ahead and flip there. John chapter five but right there the chapter before john chapter four jesus encounters woman at the well bring change to her life change to that community then a chapter eight. Is you go on down. You see another counter where jesus brings change with. The woman caught in adultery when jesus encounters us change must take place when jesus encounters us. We have to ask. Are we willing to change. Now i'm gonna tell you this do do you like to change. Do you like change. No i want you to know and don't raise. Your hand confessed this morning but how many of you did not like the fact that some of your parking spots were blocked off. That is frustrating. Who is blocked. My how many of you come into church on a sunday morning. You look at somebody in your seat. I've sat there for twenty years. That's my seat. I don't change by sitting on the left side of the preacher looks different. We do not like change. So when we encounter jesus did he asked us to change our cycle. It's tough john chapter five. Let's go ahead and flip in our bibles they're fitting at a guy who works for an organization that his job is to talk about. Water would take you to the scene of water. John chapter five. We're gotta read versus through nine. Then we're going to focus on one part of the story now. There is in jerusalem by the sheep gate a pool. An aramaic called bethesda which has five five ruth colonnades in these lay a multitude of invalids. Why lane in paralyzed. One man was there who had been invoked. Kim it for thirty eight years when jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time. He said to him. Do you want to be heal. The sick man answered him sir. I have no one to put me into the end of the pool when the water is stirred up and while i'm going going another steps down before me. Jesus said to him.

"Don't pronounce judgment onto anybody's eternal destination. But i absolutely can judge the fruit in your life. You got good fruit. Are you producing good fruit or bad fruit. And if you're produce bad fruit. I can judge that bad fruit. Who gives me that authority. God because he tells us that we're the judge with righteous judgment. Judge what judge the fruit that comes from your life whether well then or not so well. God says when you stand before judgment. You're going to give an account whether good or whether bad based on the deeds in your life based on the life that you lived in the things that you did and then you get the verses twelve or fourteen and he tells us but these things brethren like unreasoning animals but these like unreasonable animals born creatures of instinct to be captured and killed reviling where they have. No knowledge will end. The destruction of those creatures also be destroyed. He's talking about the false teachers suffering wrong as the wages of doing wrong. They counted a pleasure to party in the daytime. And they are stains and blemishes the lady in their deceptions as they party with you having is fall of adultery they never cease from sin enticing unstable souls having a heart trade and greed accursed children. "She was laughing. But everybody's laughing. I'm so embarrassed. And you know what what it rustu. I'm gonna pull tom's here the next time we stood up. We went to sit down and tom landed up on the floor. My best friend and everybody laughed. And i laughed and i can even remember what room this took place in the flag. Shirts is just vivid in my mind and sister watson looked at me and said russ vengeance is suite isn't it and it was for about ten seconds on never forget that i love sister watson. She taught me a lesson. She didn't scream at me or yell at me or take me to my parents. I'll never forget her. And i'll never forget that. Say vengeance sweet. We have to think about our actions. Jesus did not retaliate. I should not have retaliate. But it sure was sweet for a minute but later on i was ashamed. I'd never shared this with my parents. I probably should have. But i didn't. I'm sharing with you this morning. But jesus didn't retaliate and we don't need to retali- because of the lord knows what he's when he suffered he made no threats whereas twenty-three he lifted himself up and spoke from the clock cross. He spoke about the people he spoke about what he was going through spoke to his father. He spoke to the thief on the cross but he never talked about his suffering. He didn't scream out his suffering. He didn't threaten people from the cross because he knew what was going to happen. You know one of the things that amazes me the most is if you go into the old testament read about the relationship between king saw and david david was in the court. He was playing this harp and what did saw do he picked up a spear that's right lewis and he threw it at david didn't he. He missed him. And do you know what david did nothing. Nothing somebody said nothing. He didn't throw the spear back. And i thought isn't that a great example for us christians. Don't throw the spear back. Don't get upset and you have that about. Jesus we've gotta hurry. We're almost done here. It steady and trust himself to him who judges justly. That's exactly what we're talking about a twenty three verse twenty three we have to entrust ourselves. God he's going to take care of it on the judgment day. Don't forget that that's what jesus did. He said i'm going to let god. I'm gonna let my father take care of this on the judgment day. I don't have to be god. I don't have to be a judge and in verse twenty three. Jesus entrusted himself to him who judges justly. That's powerful. If jesus can trust god to take care of him then maybe we should. Don't you think i just love that. Verse what peter saying. Christians give up the right to get even. That's what it comes down to chuck you have to give in. Don't give in to try to take engines. That's the one guy. I know he take vengeance right. We have to give that right up. Because god will take care of it. He's going to act on our behalf. That's what faces all about. If you really have faith in god doing it taking care of business. That's what faith is all about. The world says someone's gotta pay. We're going to pay back. We're going to take vengeance. I'm gonna get even. That's not what christian should do. That's what the world says. That's not what we need to say. No one gets away with anything. Put that down on that outline. Nobody gets away with anything with that in the back there and remember god's gonna take care of it. He's going to take care of his time is coming. His action is coming and when we have faith enough to realize that will entrust to him. He's going to do it. That'll make us feel so much. Better fact enrollments. Chapter twelve verse. Fourteen says i will repay. Who do you think you are trying to pay people back. Those are words for russ in second grade. I should said that. Let the lord take care of these things. I don't think the lord cares about that. Cherubini pulled out from under me. He has more important things on his mind. Don't you so let's trust. Let's let him do it. Let's let him repay for us unforgiving and this is what happens. Unforgiving hinders our prayers are singing. Our lord's supper are giving our worship. Our marriage our life our children everything is affected because of this and not only that but it makes our life miserable when you have to repay somebody for something it takes a lot of planning and we have to get back at them and we have to get angry and we have to make things happen and try to organize our lives so we can repay them. That makes her whole life miserable. That's why i wanted to think about this as we close. I want you to think about what the lord did because this is. What's.

"We're trying to figure out what we're supposed to do how we're supposed to do it. What's pleasing to got everything begins and ends in scripture. Never should we here. But i think but i feel but when you have these conversations you often hear but i think but i feel and people try to allow to get to to be what drives them and yet we know that scripture in scripture alone is what drives us if you're here this morning and you're hearing this message and you're not a child of god and that is your desire. Here this morning brethren yuka come forward. You could come forward to be baptized for the remission of your sins. "Then is to continue in these things to persevere in these things right regardless of what life happen or what happens in life regardless of what the medical diagnosis is regardless of. What the financial situation is regardless of of how the marriage is going regardless of how your children are acting out you persevere in the faith in the transformation process that has been taking place you see. Because we're either growing spiritually over dying spiritually. And so brethren we continue to look at this and we understand that many christians in the past the present and the future. They're all going to learn about faith and how important faith is and they're happy to get rid of sins that destroyed many of their lives to begin with. They love to learn about god. But there's a problem. It's kind of like the parable of the sewers. Some of them are seeds gonna fall along the roadside or on the rocky soil. And it's going to bring fruit but then it's gonna pass away quickly because there's no depth of roots and so we understand that there are too many christians who are going to accept the good things of christianity but when things get hard when life gets hard they're going to walk away from the church they're going to walk away from the leaker park congregation potentially enjoying one of these megachurches or join one of these denominational churches who offer a better experience. But don't offer truth and don't offer accountability brethren. We need to understand that. We're always going to be accountable to the word of god and so when adversity persecution pain inconvenience come in this life and they are coming if they haven't done so already. We need to understand that. Many christians will give up. Follow away but that's why we have to stick to the plan. We have to understand who we are. In christ that our faith is a process a process of steps that are supposed to build upon one another in order for the building up of all christians for the maturing of christians so they in the times of adversity we may persevere and there's a fifth pair in those verses and that fifth pairs about perseverance godliness. And when you look at this brethren the point here is the transformation process to become a new self and that new self that new creation should be evident to all that come in contact with you but only those who develop those various qualities and christian context. We'll see the attributes appearing in their lives for you wives who have a husband. Who's new to the faith. Can you see the changes that are happening for you husbands. Who might have a new might have a wife. Who's new to the faith. Can you see the changes that are happening for you. newer families who are babes at christ. But your children are growing in christ. Can you see the changes that are happening. Can you see how they're changing from worldliness to godliness. And so brethren it's similar to this illustration that i found and it's it's an in regards to like a spiritual liftoff right. It's similar to a plane taking off on runway when a plane taking off on runway. The first thing it has to do is taxi and then it finds its runway and then it starts to move but it's still on the ground that hasn't had lift off yet. They asserted speed however the wheels begins to leave the ground and then the plane enters into the atmosphere and you have left off in many ways as christians as we begin our walk with christ. We're pretty much like that plane that we are starting to get some information not to kind of get us moving. But faith isn't real has reached a point where you're gonna have spiritual liftoff because that comes with time that comes with maturity and your. It's so we need to keep growing and maturing and transforming our lives in that christian process and that faith process to the point to where we get spiritual liftoff and then when you get spiritual liftoff you're going to hopefully start to have family members and friends recognize the changes that are taking place in your various lives brother. We understand that godliness means become more like god and less like natural man. Do you understand that godliness. Righteousness means becoming more like god and less like natural man who is worldly in worldly centered and so so to belong to the church you have to have a transformation otherwise if you're still just taxiing on the ground you still blowing more to the world than you do to the church because in order to become as you grow and you mature in your faith received that spiritual liftoff. It's going to take effort on your parts. It's going to take efforts to get spiritual liftoff. And i just realized man. I must be really worried. Because i'm only like halfway through and there's like two minutes left in the hour so we're gonna shut this down being that it's a series of servants or second peter because i got a ways to go and i don't want anybody starting not off. Even though paul got the preached midnight what a great benefit. That must've been right. Just keep on going. Keep on truckin. But we're gonna shut it down because it's already. It's almost that time. And i know we shouldn't be looking at a clock here in the church but we know we have to keep a timely and so if there's anybody that's here today and you need the prayers of the church let us know all we can pray for you. If you're struggling in your faith journey. Did you know we have shepherds in this congregation. Men who would love to sit down with you and talk with you about what struggles you may have in your fate that can help open up the scriptures to give you a deeper more committed faith brethren. Come forward this morning if you're struggling. Let us know what you're struggling with. Open a plan in place and we'll help you to get through those struggles. Because i'm here to tell you if you're struggling and your faith you're not alone. Most christians are struggling in their faith. Whether like the minute or not. Most of them aren't willing to ask for help though. So if you need the help and you want to help don't don't put it off another day. Ask for help. And if you're here today and you need the prayers of the church For for whatever other reason please let us know. And if you're here today and you're not a child of god but that's your desire and you wish to be baptized for the remission of your sins. You wish to come forward to receive the gift of the holy spirit. Come forward and be baptized as we stand to sing the song visitation..

"In our sunday morning bible studies. It's because that's how we're going to be judged we're going to be judged by the new testament. God has said the times of ignorance over and he is sent his sons dying on the cross. He's given us the complete revelation he tells us how the story ends. We know that jesus has already has the victory. The question is do we want to tag along and be included in that victory if we do then with jesus comes with his winnowing fork in the threshing floor to separate the wheat from the shaft. We have to ask ourselves. Do you want to be the wheats or the chef. Because the sheriff is going to be going into the birds up. So we understand in verse. Three god has given us granted to us all that we need through the complete revelation of god and he tells us as we go on here through the true knowledge of jesus who called us by his own glory and excellence for by these. He has granted to us as his precious and magnificent promises. So that by them you may become partake of the divine nature. Having escaped the corruption. That is in the world by lust. You look at verse four and it says he has granted to us his precious his magnificent promises brother. You guys have heard me talking about faith before amen. And you've heard me give you the definition of faith and i've often said faith real biblical faith is is threefold. You have to come to the word of god. You have to fake from hearing hearing from the word god romans sense seventeen right but it doesn't end there. You have to hear the word to determine if you believe it so it starts with hearing that it started with trusting and then it starts and then it ends with obedience you have to trust in those great magnificent promises that he's talking about right here in verse four so verse three is telling us we look at these and we break these verses down verse. Three is telling us that humans can know god only by the degree that god has revealed himself to us his revealed himself to humanity in. Why do i say that well did. God give the profits when they came the whole story or did he give them little little tidbits of information. He gave them tidbits of revelation a prophecy to pass onto the jews. And so that we can look back to see when prophecy will be fulfilled. Its so we know that now. We have the complete revelation of god. We know how the story is. We know how the story began. We know that jesus is the seed line. Jesus is the one that was gonna come from the seed line from the tribal judah of the family of david and for what purpose the save mankind from their sins and this was a plan that was put in place since before. The foundation of the world is so for god so free humans we can only know god to the extent that he had revealed himself. For example we can know the goddess creative. We can know that he's powerful. We can know that he's wise just by looking at creation but we can't know through creation is that god doesn't reveal recreation doesn't reveal what god thinks creation doesn't reveal with god wants for man creation doesn't reveal what the future will be with the spiritual world will be like it's a we're limited in what we can know from creation. We could see that there is a guy through creation that there is a designer because there's designed in nature but that's about the limit of what we can know in order for us to know more about god. He has to reveal himself to mankind. And we have that revelation through jesus christ through the holy spirit who jesus said he was going to send john chapters fourteen in john chapter sixteen for what purpose so that he could. The holy spirit would remind. The early disciples the early apostles everything that got ever sudden. Did everything that jesus ever saw and everything that he ever did. And so the knowledge of these things is only available to the point or the extended god reveals it. Well what did it say in verse theory. You go back and you look at it. And what did the same verse three seeing that his divine power has what granted to us everything that we need that pertains to life ansa godliness. Brethren all the information that humanity needs to live a good and godly life to be found acceptable in the eyes of jesus christ in the day of judgement is contained in the new testament. So when i ask you the question why is it important that we study out the new testament because it all begins and ends there because we're new testament christian so we don't follow the law because we don't we didn't live under the old law and the old law wasn't for us it was only for the jews and so you look at this information and as we continue on brother at true knowledge gives us access true knowledge of god and his revelation gives us access to godliness. It gives us access to spiritual living a spiritual life and that's why we said earlier that there needs to be a transformation that is taking place as you read as you study the word of god and he's you become more knowledgeable in the word of god you make sure you transform your life in versus five through eleven. Peter is going to describe as we continue on. He's going to describe what man's part is knowing. God he's also going to describe how this affects our life and how it's going to affect our salvation. So peters going to explain that growth is a process. Well what is the process. A process as a series of steps that build upon one another amen. It's it's a series of steps that build upon one another should there notch chew. We not see a growth. Transformation it a transformation be taking place in the lives of every child of god. Let's continue on now as we look at versus five through seven. His second peter one five or seven. Notice what it says now for this. Very reason. also apply diligence. All diligence in your faith supply moral excellence and in your moral excellence knowledge and in your knowledge self control your self control perseverance and your perseverance brotherly kindness or godliness your godliness brotherly kindness and then you brotherly kindness love. Peter tells us at the process of knowing god begins with what diligence it begins with diligence effort commitments resolved resolving commitments or want to the process to the process of transforming our lives to become the type of man and woman that god is desired us to be to become righteous in holy in his sight. That is the transformation process that we're not. We're not viewed as.

jesus john david Peter peters
