The Changes in Language and Mood in Dante's Divine Comedy

"I was talking last time about the different mood and even language in Dante's paradiso. And the language in the paradiso matches what Dante is doing in these kantos. The language and inferno was a somewhat crude language of distance. And by that I mean Dante the pilgrim is keeping away and should keep away from the evil spirits in hell. He doesn't want to become one of them. He wants to sort of step back and while he's willing to listen to them, the lessons that he takes from the sinners in hell are negative. Don't be like that. Don't do that or you're gonna end up like that guy. And in purgatorio, the language now moves. To a language that is a little more communal, you'll find that by and large spirits and purgatory aren't by themselves, they're in groups. And so you have this communal aspect to it. But at the same time, they remain distinctively individual. So that when one of the sinners steps forward, by the way, their sinners and in all three books, it's not like there are sinners and hell and sinners and purgatory, but no sinners in heaven. If heaven were for heaven was a place where you couldn't have sinners, it would be completely empty. So it's sinners all true. And this is important to know because it meets the objection. Well, ignorant objection that Paradise parodies was gonna be really boring to Nash because, you know, it's just gonna be a lot of holy people who don't commit Sims. No, you're gonna find out there's sinners throughout. Well, particularly in the kind of outer rings of heaven. Sinners whose lessons are just like an inferno negative. These are people who did wrong things and bad things, and they talked to Dante about them. And in that sense, there's a kind of consistency between inferno and purgatorio and

"Shot so you can see the lapel thing that I'm wearing that my buddy, I don't know him, Louis Kona, and I don't know how to say this because there's so many syllables. It's one of those beautiful Hawaiian retreats. I'm sure a slice of Paradise kill a nobody here on the team knows it either. Hence my belief that everybody around me is crazy, but me. And I'm the one I can't read it. Kill a kakua. I think it's killa kakua? Hey, Hawaii. If you're listening and help me with the pronunciation, I just want to say a big thank you. A couple months ago, I invited you to send me lapel pins from your state and on the Salem news channel where you watch this show online and I hope you do, as well as listen to us on your favorite radio station. People have been sending me lapel pins from and I like it when it's like one half is the one side is the American flag and the other side is your state pin. People have sent me pins from Wyoming, Montana, South Carolina, Florida, Ohio. I've worn them all. Well, Louis, Kona from Kona coffee sent me not only some lapel pins that aren't exactly a flag pin, but it's a beautiful Hawaiian flower. You see it online here, sailing news channel dot com. It's beautiful. And I've got it on my lapel. He also sent me some samples from Kona coffee, which is the aroma of aloha. And I like that. And he sent us some American flag watches,

Lee Strobel: The Disciples Believed and Lived With Jesus Christ

"So why is it that the people who so closely surrounded Jesus Christ is apostles Suffered through the most painful deaths and agonizing lives afterwards evangelizing his cause if they knew it to be false Yeah that's exactly right Because I used to people would tell me well you know the disciples were willing to die for their fate And indeed there are 7 ancient sources that confirm that they live lives of deprivation and suffering as a result of their proclamation that Jesus is recent And so they said well look they're willing to die for it It must be true So wait a minute that doesn't make sense As you said kind of pilots in World War II or terrorists today crashing airplanes are doing suicide bombings They're willing to die for what they believe So what's the difference And it turns out the difference is exactly like you said a terrorist today who blows himself up with a suicide bomb He sincerely believes with all of his heart If he does that he'll go to Paradise to be with his God And now does he know for sure No we can't know for sure but he's been taught it He believes it and he's willing to die for it That proves nothing But of all people who have ever lived in history the disciples were unique position They didn't just believe Jesus rose from the dead and thus proved he's the son of God They were there They touched him They talked with they ate with them after he was resurrected They knew the truth They knew whether it was a lie or whether it actually happened And knowing the truth they were willing to die for it Nobody knowingly and willingly dies for what they know is a lie And so that is good confirmation that what they're saying is true

Andrew Klavan Discusses His New Book 'The Truth and Beauty'

"Folks I can take my conversation with Andrew clavin KLA van, the book out today. It's called the truth and beauty how the lives and works of England's greatest poets, point the way to a deeper understanding of the words of Jesus. And Andrew, part of the fun of this book is being reminded. Because you tell these lovely stories, these powerful, beautiful, funny stories of all these characters and how they interacted with each other because, you know, we think of them as names in the Pantheon. But the idea that Milton, for example, John Milton, who proceeds all of these figures. But that he was a human being. And that he was this kind of a person and not that kind of a person. And how his work led to some of them. I guess it was wordsworth, right? Who was obsessed with Milton? Yeah, he wanted to rewrite basically Paradise lost the story of the fall of man, Milton's brilliant poem on the fall of man he kind of wanted to rewrite it as a mental event. And he never quite got around to it. He never quite did it, but he was obsessed with art behind the news. There's the one piece of bad advice college gave him. He told him he should be writing longer poems, but it was really words with shorter poems that are great. Well, it's so funny. But just the way they all interacted with each other. We forget really that that was the case, at least most of us forget that kind of thing. But you bring them to life. You also talk about keats. I mean, my goodness, he died at age 25. And according to you, and I want to ask you about this, you say that you think he was the greatest poetic genius since Shakespeare. Now there are a lot of poetic geniuses out there. What makes you have that, I guess, judgment about keats, because of course he wrote so little, ultimately, because he died so young, but what was it about keats that makes you kind of put him up there at the top of the Pantheon? It was really the, you know, it's really the truth and beauty his poetry is so beautiful to read and so dense, so packed with meaning the way Shakespeare's is that you could hesitate between two words without ever getting to the end of the way they reverberate off each other. The title of the book comes from him from his ode on a grecian urn in which he's basically contemplating how art leads us into eternity. And the grecian urn says at the end of the poem to humankind, it says beauty is truth, truth, beauty. That's all you know on earth and all you need to know.

John Zmirak and Eric Discuss the Brilliant Works of C.S. Lewis

"Seriously, John, every time we talk to you every week, it's fun and look forward to it. And I guess the only question is, what shall we talk about today? Let me see. You wrote something recently about C. S. Lewis. Can we talk about that? Sure, sure. I don't know, I think everybody has a first experience of reading certain important books. And I remember when I first read the third volume in his space trilogy. Now I'm not everybody knows, I guess C. S. Lewis saw how effective people like H.G. Wells were at spreading darwinist materialism through one beautifully written well told science fiction stories that conveyed these shallow terrible soul destroying worldviews. And C. S. Lewis decided, I can use this power for good instead of evil. And he wrote three books about space travel. One imagines a trip to Mars. One imagines a trip to Venus and one imagines basically angels coming down to the earth to lift the seeds that we've been under from Satan since this is like if Frank peretti were a great writer or even a good writer. The books that he wrote in the 90s, this present darkness, whatever I really didn't care for them because the literary quality struck me as very much middling. But imagine a great writer like C. S. Lewis, a genuinely great, great writer, like C. S. Lewis, turning his attention to this genre. And I remember when I discovered they could always call it the space trilogy, but the first book, of course, is out of the silent planet, which is a trip to Mars, then there's peril land, tryptophan, and then the last one is called that hideous strength, which takes place on Planet Earth, but I want to say peril land drive. I've said this many times. One of the greatest books I've ever read, it is a masterpiece. It ought to be taught in survey courses along with Paradise lost.

Lee Strobel Did a Deep Dive on Near-Death Experiences

"Walk us through some of the questions that you were trying to answer in this movie. Yeah, I wanted as someone trained in law and journalism. I wanted some corroboration with the Bible says. And so I explored an area that explored an area that I was really skeptical about, which are near death experiences. I thought these were over hyped, I thought it was from fraud involved, some people claim they died and met Jesus and these 5 foot ten real nice guy. I can't confirm that. I can't corroborate that. I reject that. But I learned that there are 900 scholarly articles written about near death experiences published in scientific and medical journals over the last 40 years. This is a very well studied area. In fact, the lancet, which is a famous medical journal in England, carried an analysis of near death experiences that concluded that none of the alternative explanations account for this phenomenon. So I looked at cases. Because the Bible says, in a couple of places, for instance, the apostle Paul says to be absent from the bodies to be present with the lord. Jesus told the repentant criminal on the cross. Today you'll be with me in Paradise. So the Christian conception of the afterlife is two phases. One is the first phase. He said occurs after we are physically dead, in which our spirit, our soul, our consciousness, continues to live on. And we live on either in the presence of God or away from God in Hades. At the time of Jesus return and the consummation of history, we are reunited then with our now resurrected bodies, we go through final judgment, and then we spend eternity in a very physical place, whether it's heaven or hell. So I need you to know, is there any evidence from near death experiences that indeed our spirit, our soul, our consciousness, does continue to live on after our physical demise. And what I found to my shock were a number of cases that we deal with in the book and the movie where people saw things or experience things or heard things during their out of body experience that would be impossible if it wasn't authentic.

Religion and the Sublime

"If you're not a Christian, you can still experience a sublime, but it's very rare and it's very episodic. Some people feel that when listening to a symphony or sitting by the Lake with someone you love, you have that momentary experience of the sublime, but it's there, and then it's gone, and then it's only recoverable through memories of themselves become more dimmed over time, but the beauty of Christianity is that it introduces the sublime into it makes it an experience of ordinary life. And it does so because you begin to realize that everything your work is a form of prayer, your marriage is a weird kind of menager to our why? Because God's a part of it. He's the third party in a successful marriage. And you begin to experience what Milton talks about his phrase is a Paradise within the happier. And what Milton means is that Paradise isn't just simply a destination of the next world. Some place that we're headed that we may get to some day, but Paradise is a condition of the human soul that can be tasted, at least a foretaste of it, even under this even in this life. And Christianity allows us to endure suffering and difficult circumstances which are not avoidable in life, but nevertheless, do them with a sense of joy without losing your

"You know, Joe Biden continues now his move into trying to control our lives, along with Anthony Fauci, although the amazing thing if you've been following this, closely is that it seems like there's a little trouble in Paradise, Anthony Fauci actually had to come out. And refute what Kamala Harris said in a recent interview, Kamala Harris was trying to, you know, play the old switcheroo and blame Fauci for a Macron. And delta, while she's at it, and I didn't sit so well Fauci then went and took to the airwaves over the weekend and said, no, no, no, he had worn The White House. He had warned them that there might be other variants. Once again, everyone knew variants were a threat. We're going to say it's about to won't stop talking about them. He's been going on and on and on, apparently we're never going to get through any of this. And so for The White House to actually suggest that they had no idea. I mean, come on, guys. October WSJ Article: 'San Francisco Has Become a Shoplifter’s Paradise'

"So a couple Jason Riley from Wall Street Journal last month October he wrote a piece out how San Francisco has become a shoplifter Paradise Thefts under $950 are effectively decriminalized Okay now you can get a lot of stuff under a 150 bucks I don't know if you've noticed lately TVs are way under $950 I'm not saying they're like the greatest TVs Or they have all the great features But you can a 100% get a big flat screen TV for well under $950 So now if you shoplift TV because you're part of looting or grab and go or fun and games where everyone call you get a TV and it's under 9 $50 you basically you won't get prosecuted They're gonna let you go Why Because they have now this ridiculous idea Prop 47 California bout initiative theft of less than $950 in goods is treated as a nonviolent misdemeanor and rarely prosecuted So stores don't want to get sued they tell people we don't even do it anymore But now when you've got marauding mobs of people going in and stealing things all at once because they're organizing on social media and they're going hey let's meet up at target at 7 o'clock and we'll all go in at the same time and just overwhelm them Four men on Wednesday in California and Santa Rosa fled with $20,000 of merchandise from Apple store In San Jose $40,000 of items were stolen from a Lululemon store That's right they're even stealing yoga pants now I thought yoga pants were so sacred that nobody would ever want to steal them I just know there's certain things in our society that we just don't touch Yoga pants being among those things But clearly not they went and grabbed those as well In Chicago they stole over what I mean how much was it in Chicago now Can I go $25,000 at a village shopping center It's happening all across the country And so now what's happening is employees are quitting as a turning around saying I don't want to deal with this Why would

Eric and Max McLean Discuss the Genius of C.S. Lewis

"Was that C. S. Lewis was such an amazing writer. I will compare him to Shakespeare because he wrote his own literature. And I don't mean he wrote literature. I mean, he created a literature, I guess chesterton is a little bit like that. They wrote in so many genres with such genius that they created a whole world. Chesterton was the inspiration for much of his apologetic works. But I would say it was McDonald was his inspiration for this fantasies. And also George Charles Williams as well. I just read that hideous strength, and that's a Charles Williams novel. I was going to say that idiot strengths, which is the third of his so called space trilogy which always annoys me. It's not released based children. I don't know what it is. But it's kind of like Narnia for adults. Well, it's pretty Narnia too. And it was pre Narnia. Yeah. Well, those books are just their genius. I mean, I find it to be one of the great it should be taught alongside Paradise lost in 20th in survey courses of 20th. I keep saying to him, survey courses of western literature. It's genius. It's a retelling of Paradise lost. It's incredible. And that hideous strength, what do you even make? It's prescient its prophetic. It is amazing when you read that you think we're living through this now, unfortunately. But a lot of people aren't familiar with those books, but per landra and that hideous strength. They're just out of the crazy, amazing books. But he wrote poems, some of them are great, one of my favorite ones is the one that I was there in 1998 when they put it up in Addison's walk behind the colleges behind Marlin college where he was, whereas rooms were and where I bumped into you one day. "Like two. You kind of have the two extreme perspectives. And so for you to be able to come together and be able to say like, okay, so this is what this is what I found through my journey and experience with this object matter. I think that's really really wonderful. Yeah, the interesting thing is, is I could absolutely argue both points. You know, I know the talking points of both sides so well. I was actually I would go speak at the capitol in Sacramento California on behalf of Planned Parenthood and speak to the news outlets and speak to the representatives and stuff there. And then later, I ended up being a kind of social media coordinator for Abby. So I was responding to people on her social media platforms and stuff. And helping her with her outreach, not because I was pro life or not because I was opposed to abortion. But I could very much respond as she would, because I knew exactly what the talking points and the important points were. And. Her stances and her things have very much changed over time. But at the time when I volunteered at Planned Parenthood, I am not gonna lie. I hated the pro life movement. I mean, vehemently hated the pro life movement, partially because Planned Parenthood kind of set that in my mind that these were the bad guys. These were the people trying to take our rights away, and they were trying to ruin my life and all this. So I had this very strong narrative in my mind of what these people were, but also because I had a personal experience. And this is something I haven't talked about publicly, but I had this personal experience where I found myself in an unplanned pregnancy shortly after my mom passed away. And I panicked and I didn't know what to do and I didn't want to have an abortion and I reached out to the pro life movement to the people that had been protesting at my clinic for all this time and saying, we love you and we care about you and will help you no matter what. And I reached out, and I said, look, this is a situation I'm in. And here I am, you know, playing Paradise court putting her tail between her legs, saying I need your help. And it seemed on the surface. It's okay, we're going to take you to the crisis pregnancy centers and we're going to help you, but it was really, we're going to give you diapers and formula and you can figure out the hell out on your own. And that was very disheartening because here I am a person that just lost her mom. I'm on my own. I have no money. I have nothing to speak up. I'm literally scraping by month month and they're going, well, we'll give you some diapers and formula. And I just had the worst taste in my mouth about the entire movement because I thought that that's what they were, you know, or these people that were love you and we're going to take you under our wing. Oh, no, you're too much trouble. You're too needy. You have too many needs. And Abby was the first person that I came across that wasn't like that that she very much when I end up getting pregnant with my son said, what

And he goes and i was just like a super deep fan that first few hours and he goes. I love grocery store joe. He was so sweet. Hair reminds me of me. So many of my reminds me of so many of my exes that i got exile city goes. I just feel for people like that. Just can't get out of their own heads but he thinks he's super sweet and really deserves love. He lands is the best. I love it. Lands is gonna bring that like fan boy energy to hosting just. Because like i said last week. It's almost like david spade was apathetic about it. All and to be frank. I think he he seems more. Apathetic this leak. The who's seconds. So we saw of him. Yeah he kind of made that comey's i it's good to see you guys get senior since since you showed up. And then as he walked. K where i get paid. I think that was part of david's. Stick the comedy of it all but it will be refreshing to have somebody there that's like super involved and wanting to be around finding joy in the in the in the couples. I think david was is definitely there for comedic relief And at worked right you wouldn't want it for like the whole season because then it just feels like the host doesn't care in which makes fan in viewership over time. Probably feel like. I don't need to care about this either. It's it's fun to hear lands talk this way. I think is going to be really awesome for the show so pumped to see that well funny headline that. We pulled out just to mention because we said we you and talk about anymore last week and really don't but it it was funny. How trae from bachelor in paradise confronted the situation last week where his suitor. A john in paradise had dated his uncle well. Trade tweeted a picture of his uncle. "There's a reason that girls coming in late. I don't like that because do you remember how her julia was. Yeah and don't matter. What in the industry seems like a great girl. So but how does she not know. How does she not now or does she know. I mean i knew i mean. She's a she's got she's the podcast question. Probably knows i have. No idea probably broke up. Yeah i mean there might be a a moment here where even after like the joe thing remember. That was a big deal joe. Bayly we're talking about was texting before texting and we. It was like the biggest controversy in paradise. Ever feel like we're desensitizing ourselves to now like like maybe next year all these people would be dating beforehand and look on the paradise and we'll just see all these tears because then like people that they thought where they had been dating and they both like text each other like. Hey we'll both get a paradise in. This'll be a great romantic story boulevard. Then they show up and like their hearts broken because the person's with somebody else like that could be what happens. But you know we you know. We feel bad for joe bayly because he he took the wrath of something years ago. But that's been passed but you guys you didn't you do know that. Brendan saying demi that. Like he's keeping his options open and he said it so up front like early on a date you know. He's thinking while. I know pipers coming down the stairs next week so make sure that. I don't really commit to anyone and like this. Is a whole other brendan because we always think like. Oh sweet. Brendan right no. This guy has a plan scheme and he's game. He's he's gaming this thing. So i said i've seen more gaming right now than Than past seasons. That's how i feel. Well what are the big. Headlines happened this episode. We have the kinda the erin love triangle. That was wild. We thought like he was going to go with. Tammy for sure that kind of change our mind. When he gets a rap song by serena then he's back with tammy team we definitely makes a statement their like. She makes sure that like her mark is shown because right in front of everybody she straddles him. And they're making now she ends up getting the rose. Let's talk about the exits for a second anybody's shocking to you to surprising that went home or any couples that you didn't see him in the couples. We pretty much could have predicted outside of james at the very in but did anybody go home. That you're shocked by. I wanted kelsey. This stick around longer me too. I did. I thought that she's she looks like she's had a lot of growth or she shared. It was her package At the beginning the paradise that she she feels that she's had a lot of growth since us on the bachelor and I just wanted to see her. Get to kind of explore that in that space that paradise was one was a really unique experience for me in in the extent. Some of my growth at that point in my life and i was hoping that for kelsey so i was loved to see her. Go but you know for guys not there guys note there. I was also bummed. A see kelsey go. I thought that She did seem like she grew she. I always found her very likable. I've thought it would make more sense for james to have kept her than demi. But you know demi is like really good t-.

"We don't even have an off week on this podcast we go right from the bachelorette into bachelor in paradise and it's where my co host shines paradise time. Oh my gosh ben. Watching this had me feeling ptsd. No we shouldn't use that out of like true contacts but like wells. Used it though. So i mean. I was pretty traumatized to be honest. It's actually pretty close. I was feeling joe so much. And there's just like this sense that i get every season that comes are out. Let's just like. I am so grateful that i married. I married jared. I don't have to be there suffering bocquet. So this is how we're gonna kick it off and i think it's super interesting you. I feel like you go back and forth on this. Because i tell people in my time within the you really love paradise but yet there's moments where you're like. I hated this experience. This felt like you just said suffering. So what is it actually. Did you like it or do. Not all ben. I did not have a great. And then did i have a good time there. Did i get a lot out of it. Yeah eilly grew so much of the experience. I got so much more mature relationship experience just like communication like i got so much out of it but very few moments were enjoyable. But it's a it's like this It's kind of like this. Jonas brothers quote that loved to throw out there all the time. The line of the lyric. The song is the days that seem the worst. The days were the worst seem to glow now. And it's kind of like that where it's like when i think back on it. I only think. I usually i think of the good moments and like even the. There's like a there's like even a glow to the suffering right because everything turned out. Good yeah i get that. But i enjoyed my bachelor experienced so much more like that was just pure fun. Okay okay so you enjoyed the bachelor. The bachelor experience was more fun paradise. I wonder ashleigh if your situations at tad unique because it sure is well. I'll say it. Why because your husband was on that beach with you which adds like i would have to imagine it. Intensifies the situation..

"With that life in barbados. You might remember an episode back a few months ago. I talked about food. Delivery that i got from yummy mummy's well. They wanted to catch up with ameri leach for this episode to showcase an alternative for access high-quality plant based food whether you're here on self-catering holiday or living on the island and marie can you tell us about the concept behind yummy. Mummy was started from my love of plant base and vegan food. And just you know the fact that you can have food that is really good for you and it tastes good and there was somewhere void for that so i started create things. I want to eat more often and that easy access to on the island. What would some of your most popular dishes though. Jimmy mummies focuses mainly on meal pratt. So it's easier to happier meal in the fridge. She paul new girl and one of our favorite meals is our chickpea. Cranberry rob so think. Tuna salad rapper. Chicken salad rap. But it's made with chickpea hands down that and our lasagna's rehab apoligise is on the menu and i rotate the menu and those lasagna's chick derives those are definitely favorites. I hit your lasagna. And i thought it was fantastic. So i'm not surprised. That is one of your most popular dishes. I think what you offer is me. Prep and home to the rate is that right yes yvonne. So that's precisely that is meal preparation so we can do salads. We do soups. We do whole casserole types of meals and what is basically a. You may just want lunch covered. You may have a really busy week schedule. And you just need lunch covered. And you're going to go. And enjoy our local zine by dining out or you bought and both covered with work and you need a little help in that area and that is what we offer. Maybe you comes out. Be clichy joe every week with some. A brits like the rob or those anya in some meals are freezer. Friendly and some meals are like more fresh. You know me lots of salads some ross and for anybody interested in mentoring more platte basin meals into their diet. A question some people might have and certainly one that i've had is. What is the difference between plant based and beacon menus egan implant based or very similar begin diet or lifestyle is more focused on in safety health and wellbeing of the animal. So it's more ethical. Where plant maize is more around health. You know health being the focus of it so plant based on a plant. This avoid neat vegans or vegan diet. They cut out all animal products altogether. So that's me the main difference that makes me avoid it and begins vigil at all. Any sort of animal products or byproducts. So the other question. I have for you. As you mentioned. There had been a gap on the island. And that's what you were trying to fill like. What has the difference being in relation to vegan or plant based food and the island over the last number of years has it changed and if so by yes so definitely i would say in the last two years plant base. Lifestyle has really taken an interest to a lot of barbadian public. Whether it'd be for health reasons. I have people coming to me saying the doctor says you know they cannot eat meat anymore and the people wanna know. How can they start living plant based lifestyle. So it's a lot of health reasons that people are coming to me are just like general interest. People want to feel better. People wanna live longer and the kind of relate the two together you know so yeah people just want to live longer. Healthier lives and that kind of sparks and by also offer is plant based coaching. So it's actually more sustainable way to make this a part of your lifestyle you know instead of just getting meals for me. You're actually learning how to do it. Like how i demonstrated through my cooking. Demos and through my plant maize. Coaching people can really add to their lifestyle by. Yeah there's definitely been a real increase in the last two years and there are a lot of base chefs on the island a lot. I think nearly everybody does platt based even if they don't offer as or vegan they definitely included in their menu. A couple of years ago does you couldn't go in a restaurant and find a vegan menu but the demand is there and nearly every restaurant on the alien. You have a plant based begin menu. So we're getting there slowly but surely what. We're definitely getting there. So anne marie. If you were going to head out for dinner where would you go in the island that would give you good high-quality beacon or plant based food and. I am aware your husband is a meat eater. So is there anywhere that the both of you can go together. And be satisfied with your. Hey yes now. I currently do not eat meat. And i still from all animal products at the moment. I'm just honestly more focus on based on health. And i personally feel my best when i follow a plant. Babies begin lifestyle. And i don't take any animal products. I feel my best. And i love feeling this way. That's a personal choice. My husband runs joe kitchen and yes. He has a vegan menu and he has a regular menu suited for carnivores. And everyone else. That's where i would go because you have the best. Both worlds. he loves me. He's meter. i am not so the menus designed. I think for a any couples or people like us. You know you have for interest you have different tastes. And he has a menu that suits everyone. So that's definitely a the number one place. I would go breaking joy both types of my news. Thanks so much for your time. Anne marie imbaba i- also asked on the local welcome stumped facebook page for other suggestions for begin. Our plant based foods and here are some of the recommendations for specific restaurants. Are those restaurants that have dedicated beacon based menus. There seems to be a good selection cocktail kitchen. Which is located in orange gap is actually run by amorous husband. He is the caribbean chef. Of the year damian leach they have a vegan menu and highlights include roast bradford featured hooky bowl and they also do beyond burgers and sausages. Lion's share cafe at warrants was described as a hidden gem in the green line. Eco cafe and just bar located at the norman center in tyne offer daily changing menus. So you could eat there every day of the week and have something different for just the recommendations where organic earth barbados and roll juice bar at key site. And if you're after a bit of our and our sin gita wellness spa offer day passes which include a plant based lunch. Then may have i kelly. I'm not too sure that property but this is a place on the way to tree houses park in saint joan. This is beacon superfit drinks and smoothies with all the ingredients forage locally from the owners very own large garden where you can buy herbs plants and trees. The reps were highly recommended partly. It's off the beaten track just by the roadside. And it's not that well known so what you need to do is look out for a sign saying the oasis and lots of plants with the giant cactus at the gate. It's on left. If you head east. Several people have also suggested rastafarian. It'll food you have the likes of focus. It'll shop but also look arrested very insulin ital- fruit from the kitchen. There are plenty ryan. You have to ask where and usually go on a bit of an adventure find them and finally for those with this week. Twothe try it a gap as beacon ice cream. The gabby chocolate factory is based in bridgeton. But i know there's lots of places around the island the stock their products. Also there is coconut baby. Accustomed bake shop specializing in delicious cakes. Desserts drinks snacks and food. That all happen to be begin. You have to order online for that one. So check out their website. So.

There was a big sign on a tree that said park under the tree. At your own risk. These are the same tomor and trees that are tied my house and no joke at the moment. One pod jobs in riff every thirty minutes or so. But i thought tyrone and being a local station will be can of well aware of this but maybe i was wrong. This is the oldest parish. Church in barbados eight was built in sixteen forty five and it was built over wooden structure. It's had a real bad one of luck. Over the centuries so in sixteen sixty it was destroyed by a fire and acted in stone again than it had to be rebuilt after not one not two but three hurricanes in sixteen seventy five seventeen eighty and eighteen thirty one so hurricanes are quite unusual in barbados. So that was particularly bad luck. It was last built in eighteen thirty six and it is still stunned since then we weren't able to get inside but apparently it's very beautiful. It's good curved. Staircases and a number of notable people are buried here on the grounds including a former prime minister. The grave of thomas. Shoes is very unusual. He was buried in a stanton position which they say was at his own request since he rarely sat down in the job in which he held from the church he gets done in views across bethsheba and it has also only one of tucson dials that he can find here in barbados. So the bar over there. You can see like iraq coming in coming in iraq. That's sat me fishing village area. All that it's part of not sink mostly german. I hope you're enjoying the show. "A novel. That's what i'm working on right now. So this week is international women's week so we had internet on monday and this year's theme is to challenge. I was just wondering if you've got any words of advice for guarantees of women out there around this year. I think it's important to challenge. Some of the established notions about what women can and cannot. Do you know one of the questions that i get asked. All the time is how do you balance it. How do you balance being a mom of four with a legal career and with your writing with other things act suit and i just say you know the way that i balance it is the i no longer pursue balance. I know that. I'll never be executing all of those roles perfectly at any point in time or even very well and i think we need to challenge the notion that as women. We need to do everything. Well all the time domestic professional vocational. Whatever it is there. I think some people started to think over time that you know women. In establishing that we are equal and just as capable in deserving equal pay and equal treatment that we should do all aspects of our roles equally while at all times. And i've never been able to do that. Not only things we need to challenge any of those functions is a full time job. So i was when i said at the start ups. Hey kudos anybody who modest do all three or four full time roles. Well all the time. I am not superwoman at challenge that motion image human being trying to fully realize mike potential on myself and sometimes that moves it. Some things.

"Phoenix lawyer etc. Much of that is reflected in the novel. Mrs a thing. This novel candlelight. My love song to barbie. I have some really early memories. I was speaking to my parents just recently and saw memories. Actually go back to before it was two years old are not and we actually lived in a house on this beach. Harry smith beach incident. Fellow is not a particularly picturesque each. It's not great for bathing. But i do remember sort of walking along the beach with my dad and i remember just having a special relationship with the sea and that has continued for the rest of my life is a love hate relationship. I certainly think that aspect of my life insolence. The novel in a big way in terms of my career. What i would probably say. Is that mighty legal. Training helps me with getting to the bottom of the story. So i tend to start writing a story. I'll hear character my head or i will see a scene being played out. And then there's this curiosity i wanna know like what. Why are you saying that. Why particular thing happen. I start asking all these questions around what i'm hearing or seeing. I think my legal training actually helps the back. Because i've said quite a few times now that you know the characters that tend to talk to the tend not to tell the whole truth so it helps to be able to ask some good questions find out what's really going on quite apart from that. I think my research skills definitely helped with my writing for things that i don't know i haven't personally experienced that helps but yes certainly my love affair with the beach. I mean i sort of teamed into you know the beginning of knowledge of myself in the eighties i would have been about eleven years old and so it just felt like it was a little bit of an old tobacco period of time. I remember the edens fondly hundred addresses walkmans. All these things that you know. You don't really see now even though shoulder pads you know are making a bit of a comeback but there are lots of other things that haven't quite made by kit so it was really wonderful to be to write vote that reach create that world in that period of time when i was kind of discovering who i was within the context welby free things happening in eighteen. So yancheng knows a summerbee influences. That made their way. It's this book. It's no kind of small faith there that you've described in terms of chocolate the creative writing compassion. Your legal work bringing up a family. Like what's kept you driven i ryan the reiten. How did you manage to keep that going to get say. Just being nominated for all sorts of awards which is amazing if i have a story in my head and not actually working on it over time. It's kind of like it nags e. and it's actually to focus on other things. Because i really wanna get to us in my head. So the means they. I don't think i ever be cited really to pursue racing or to cheat going with writing. I think that's something that i'm compelled to do is just a part of me. I'll do it anyway but in terms of pursuing publishing opportunities in trying to warn my craft on almost late there these saying polls that come up in life that saying this way and that happened with neha law there were. Here's a time bag. Got really immersed in other things. I remember when my boys were quite young and there was a period of time where i just totally focused on them. I was a new mom. You know two boys two young boys and just all about them. And i would have restored in my head coach night. Me nigerian night on. Eventually i had to realize that is a part of myself. That is something that. I need to nurture a low to grow just as will to fulfill the other roles in my life so i really felt overtime. Like i just didn't have a choice. It was just something that i needed to do. So you know. I would in my spare time. What people consider spirit time i would be. You know reading something writing. Something looking at the paris review looking for publishing opportunities thinking about competitions not go away to the colony for a couple weeks and just really soak in this very nurturing atmosphere community of like minded people who understood this compulsion who wanted to hear what i have to say into share and exchange and so on so it was just something. It's a compulsion something that i can't walk do it. I just can't imagine not doing it. So it something that. I had to drive myself to do. It was just something that just came. Naturally i would do things alike even now. If there's something that i'm writing on a have a particularly rough leak at work or i have you know stuff to do with the kids on sauna. During the day. I will get up at three in one in a not labatt asleep and just you know right and then get ready for work and the funny thing is when i do that. I just saw energize. Because i feel as if bast where i'm meant to be it actually gives me some sort of boost so here i can't. It wasn't a case of having to drag myself. is like bliss. I really love to be in that space. What's next for you. Hopefully when this award what else. That would be amazing. So right now i am working on a collection of slash fiction and then i'm also working on a new nozzle. I don't have the full story yet. So about may sound low funny but sometimes for me. My story is almost like somebody gives me a story like a b. to foster care for and nurture and played the best of my skills and my abilities and my thinking to it on eventually to release it into the world. That's kinda how it is in the fullness of time it will reveal itself so it's a collection of fox fiction and.

Which i'm have global recognition and accreditation but also believe in making sure that they are safe and good for the environment and then another way that we love to incorporate the community and what we do is our pack for a purpose program and this is a great initiative where we ask our guests to actually save a little bit of space in their luggage to bring things for the local community that we need we partner with a charity called variety the children's charity.
