Australia's Been Caught With Its Pants Down

"Know i've got a new metric now for the covid pandemic yes. Let's hear it. What time of day is the battery on my phone. Run well given that. You're basically turn all dr sworn i feel like it could happen at six o'clock in the morning. There was a little bit later than that yesterday. It was eleven. Am flat anyway. Let's get on with a story. That's all your secret. Sauce is blowing up your fine. Well let's talk about what we do know so far about that. The continuing outbreak melbourne. We we've sort of got about fifteen cases in the questionaire at least is are the numbers that we were hearing yesterday of about. Four generations of the virus from the original source that we know came from the side of the person you hotel quarantine through to the more races that came to light yesterday. There's still lots and lots of people whose tests is still yet to be processed but so far there seems to be a single chain of transmission which is reassuring even if the numbers are pretty big raw. Yeah so if you just look at the pattern here you've got the man called the waller man just like some prehistoric story here but the woman who's who comes from safest area. He caught it in hotel. Quarantine is he in negative and came out positive an adjacent room to somebody who was positive. So that's pretty outrageous and shows you how vulnerable we are and just luke if everybody's feeling relaxed and comfortable but hotel quarantine just look at that. This is what a fault in hotel. Quarantine does it stops state and this is so significant and we still try and pretend hotel. Quarantine is simply fantastic. This is what happens. So then you've got a man. I think was sixty who is actually called case five. Of course on the order of cases he was discovered he in fact is the earliest case in this chain. But there's a gap is a gap between the wall man and the man who is case number five as the first case in this chain.

Communities Worry About What Will Happen When Eviction Ban Is Lifted

"In just a few weeks across the us federal moratorium on evictions is set to expire. This is an especially big worrying communities that were already struggling with rising homelessness before the pandemic. npr's kirk siegler reports from spokane washington polling a huge black pack full of bottled water and clothes julie walks past a railroad overpass looking for a homeless man. Who has a job interview tomorrow and some clean pants. Garcia runs a local homeless aid group. She spots him about a quarter mile litter in a park. I'm leaving the barrel here. Why aren't you at asia's. There was already an affordable housing crisis in spokane before the pandemic now even more people are leaving large west coast cities moving to smaller places like this the rental vacancy rate. Here is about one percent and the shelters are mostly full. We're expecting a disaster. All of the folks that are currently housed are going to be une housed in june. It's going to be a swap of people and new people who have never experienced homelessness before the man garcia is helping was kicked out of a shelter the other night for drinking sisson. Thank you so much. She's worried there will be even more people sleeping outdoors. Come june thirtieth when the national moratorium on evictions is likely to end in the spokane area. Ten thousand households are behind in their rent right now.

I know I talked about this guessing 2019-2018, maybe all the sudden Android phones were coming out and everybody was trying to come up with a foldable phone iPhone. Now saying they may have a foldable phone for iPhone. I think, thirteen or fourteen or fifteen? I don't know. I can't keep track anymore. I think I'm still back at I phones off because they haven't seen the need to upgrade yet. I'm fine with what? I've got sure. I'd love a better camera. Sure, I'd love more memory, but at the same time, I'm just not in the mood to pay all that money. And from what I read, foldable phones, if you really want one, we're going to cost. Even may know. I understand the novelty of foldable phones. We yearn for the days when we had our little foldable startac. Phone was not a Motorola. It's been so long. I know I've got one around here somewhere but everybody loved the foldable phone because you could get it in your shirt pocket, in your purse, and you never had to worry about it. An iPhone as they get bigger tougher to put in the pants pocket. I'll be honest. I don't worry about designer Brands although I do wear a lot of Ralph Lauren Club only because it fits, I've never worried about the logos on my shirt or the logos on my pants or whatever shoes I was wearing but sometimes you gotta shake your head and wonder about people's desire to wear trendy things. And the thing that really got me thinking about this the other day as I was driving down the road coming back from an appointment, it was 80 some-odd degrees outside and a car comes flying by me on the interstate and the person is wearing a knit ski cap. And you could just tell they were wearing it because it was fashionable. It was stylish. It was cool. I've always had a specific look, I've had my own style if you will, and that stuff to do as a fat man, but I've always found a style that were raised me and people notice it and people recognize it, whether they like it or not, but at least they're kind, but being a slave to Fashion. "Get into that topic next hour. It's pretty interesting if you haven't heard it or our three of the podcast of your podcast her esa so we will get into that because it's well we'll get into it then so anyway he roster that starts with james carville clips that we'd played the other day referencing no woke oh is prop is faculty lounge rarick in the they're losing people the democrats losing people because it's it's it's harvard freaking faculty lounge rhetoric being thrown around. It's not working class people talking about working class problem. And that was what a carville said anybody who actually uses the word latina tax exactly so any talks about that. A little bit How'd you win the support for anti poverty policies if you talked about racial redress or pan. Racial redistribution are voters actually worried about cancelled. Culture figures like carville mistaking the fox news bubble for reality and he agrees with carvel but at the same time. He says the democrats have figured out how to do it. You don't nominate elizabeth warren nominee joe biden. Then he shovels money out the door. Don't nominate a candidate who talks like a member of the harvard. Harvard faculty nominate two candidate. Who can talk like an old line democrat and then just go progressive once. He's in so that's not going to end the progressive onslaught. They're they're pretenses and they're lecturing in the rest of it. But i'm looking at the time. Yeah let me skip ahead. But what he says. If the new progressivism becomes truly politically disastrous for democrats it will probably involve not just off pudding or elitist rhetoric but a dramatic policy failure linked to social justice politics. He says the two places where that seems most likely to happen. Our crime and education and education. We were just talking about some of these policies are sickening. They're trying to eliminate the very idea of advanced classes are gifted students or anybody working ahead. Everybody will work at the same pace. There's no such thing as natural talent but back to that in a minute. He says crime is the more urgent case. Twenty twenty saw a major spike in the homicide rate may evac too late ninety s levels. Which so far is carrying over into this year biden. Speech to congress. Last wednesday made a vague connection between ongoing bloodshed and ar fifteen. But that's not doing the damage. In the current murder wave in st instead police demoralization withdrawal in the aftermath of protests and riots seemed like the crucial factor. Along with a couple of other things he met. So if the crime and the fear of crime continues to rise that's gonna completely eclipse at discomfort with people saying latina. No doubt yeah. The thing that will change a lot would be in inflation. Inflation gets crazy. Everybody's gonna be scared to death. Yes true i said that kind of failure could take What is now. The modest trend of some conservative leaning asian hispanic and african american voters drifting rightward and make it into an existential problem like the white ethnic abandonment of the democrats under richard nixon.

Has the Pandemic Made Your Sex Life Better or Worse?

"There's this study that just came out men say sex's better during the covid. Nineteen pandemic women beg to differ so it says guys are saying that the lockdown enhance their sex lives and ladies. Don't feel that knocking boots with their boo. Whatever says during better fifty percent say pandemic sectors great seventy one say that it did nothing for their sex life so i just want to know how has it been for all of you. I've discovered something about myself because sometimes like you've said it in the past where women have to feel connected to their partners to be turned on and they have to ask how your day is. My husband does that more now with covid. I actually like my husband more as a person now From covid but my sex life took a little bit of a downturn and i think it's because part of my recipe for sexiness is for me to feel sexy and i haven't been putting on makeup. I haven't been washing my hair. I haven't been putting on pants that even zip and so that's what the missing link is. So i've actually been able to really pinpoint so it's been helpful. I mean have. I gotten out of my sweat pants as often as i should know but at least now i know pretty baby steps roles little. If we don't feel sexy. How do we expect our partners to want to be with us. When we don't we're not being loving ourselves. Yeah but i also think the difference in this study. If you were to look into my household is that the pandemic. You're around each other more so you might be having more of the quantity zacks like you. Can't you can't get away from each other. There's no excuse like you're so busy gonna work trip. Whatever like you're going to have the sex but if a woman is not feeling sexy to what becca said that level of pleasure like probably having more sex. I don't know that. I'm having like best sex of my life. I feel closer to my husband. But i'm not like oh my god and it's mostly because i'm wearing a lot of things in sweatpants and eating

"WHO's a wild partier according to Mike Greenberg streamline your introduction now is we're in the postseason Before. We get started out what's going on in the POSTSEASON MBO? I was looking at as everybody was yesterday Joe Morgan's record as a player. How did eighty-one voters not vote for Joe Morgan for the hall of Fame I god he was so good. It boggles the mind buster I think it could be argued and reasonably so that Joe Morgan had the greatest two year stretch. Any moderate infielder ever had in seventy five and seventy six. He won back MVP award on back to back world series champions. No other player did that before and no player has done it since and in those. Two seasons he stole one hundred and twenty seven bases produced one hundred, Twelve extra-base hits, and he struck out only ninety three times buster for his career wargin walked eight hundred and fifty more times than he struck out. That's the fourth largest margin of its kind behind on we ted. Williams Berry bonds and Stan musial Morgan's ability to control the strikes and may may have been his greatest quality was obviously a five to a player that we came. Four hundred eighty three hits shy of three thousand he reached base successfully more times than thirteen members of the three, thousand hit club and talk about tough. Keep this in mind as you were talking about, it's stolen bases I was thinking about this. He played in those Prime Years Houston in Cincinnati on artificial surface. So he's stealing basis you know fifty a year while running on that surface his body must have been just abused at the Games and. He was also playing second base on those services and pivoting during an era in which the those guys ran right into you. When they stole basis, there might not be a tougher more resilient player in baseball history than Joe Morgan. But like you said like when he was when he was coming up when I knew I had to be tougher, I knew to be Florida because God didn't give me the size but God gave me the brain. Real quick. You agree with me, he's the greatest second baseman of all time. I don't think Rogers Hornsby's the greatest second basement of all time but I'm one who does understand the notion that you can sort of separate baseball pre and post integration and there no question that Joe Morgan is the greatest post integration second baseman not to be as clear. That would've been my case too and that's why I. Believe that Jo's a the best ever. All right. What was your takeaway from Game Two of the American League Championship series yesterday buster legs baton has been a revelation for the raise. This season he is driven at six runs while batting ninth in the order for some context, the other three remaining teams have combined to get three rbi out of their nine hole hitters. This postseason, he's been a revelation. Takeaway from game on the National League Championship series last night also Riley coming up big Yeah at plus twenty three. The braves owned the best run differential through six postseason games since the nineteen seventy orioles but even more impressively Atlanta has outscored its opponents fifteen to one in the postseason. The fifth inning buster during that time, their pitching staff has faced one hundred and three batters in only one of them has touched home plate. Obviously Riley broke that thing open but it's their pitching staff that has been most interesting to me so far this postseason. Me Or notes on that because I'm going to steal that and use it on the broadcast tonight on on ESPN radio. Okay later today, the race could put an absolute stranglehold on the Astros in the American League Championship series. Game three what he got well I'm watching the astor's can actually lift the baseball in the previous two series. Houston hit the ball on the ground with thirty eight percent frequency a number that has jumped to sixty four through two games in this. Series Buster. Their average launch angle in this series is one degree which not surprisingly would be the lowest mark over a postseason series. During the stat cast era, those guys can complain all they want about how they're hard hit balls are finding loves but if they're GONNA hit the ball on the ground and they're not gonNA elevated it does me no good. Man is the ultimate nerd note right there. I don't know the topic, but he got on game to the National League Championship. Series well. No pitcher in baseball? Buster this season three higher percentage of first strikes than Clayton Kershaw. He's forty three or fifty one in that area this postseason from doing their wildcard series. You know that no team swings more often or does more damage on the first pitch banned the braves do so kershaw almost exclusively uses since fastball and slider on the first pitch. So I expect raves hitters will sit dead read on the first pitch at look to ambush early nap bath. You agree with me that the pressure on Kershaw tonight is immense already more share on. A show today almost tongue in cheek said, this is the biggest start of Clayton Kershaw career sorta like we always do anytime he's facing one of the postseason I totally agree especially given the nature. How will the braves are playing and the immense pressure that the dodgers we feel as a team? This is on Clayton Kershaw tonight and I'm sure he's going to feel it all day long. Thanks him though thanks for your help is always later boy. Joe Morgan's qualifying speech listen. This is the portion where he talks about the big red machine. Only became a winner I.

"Area the way he handled was a game three against the as when they went with that bullpen game and he didn't really seem to have a plan was like well, every other managers doing this. So I'm going to try it, but it didn't work the. That little best of three series, but AJ hinch perfect fit and this would be the second time right that this might happen to renteria because he proceeded Joe matted with the cubs So maybe he's unfairly the guy who gets a team to a certain level they need to bring in somebody new. Yeah and I've talked in the past about the red sox need to bring back Alex Cora I think that's going to happen but let's face it if you're AJ hinch Alex your low. Low. Until you finish your suspension because you know the Commissioner's offices shattering all of this. Yes I don't think. Any discussions are going to be had, what is it as soon as the world series is over I think there's there's there's suspensions are over. Then we might see those guys pop up in the News Yup. Dodgers braves game on last night. We spoke so much about the braves starting pitching pitching issues during the course of the sixty game regular season, and that's why I think. There's a perception that they sort of middling pitching. That's not true anymore. Number in fifty eight this postseason they've allowed just two home runs and Mac free lesson I was outstanding. Yeah. Look the braves love it. When he's on the mound, there are thirteen in one. Now when he starts this year and we see what he does he he limits hard contact he moves the ball around. You know he's not super overpowering with a ninety eight mile an hour fastball or anything, but he knows how to pitch really fun to watch. We can see why he went seven Oh, you know in the regular season, he's really really good and of course, the stories in La this morning are about the bullpen again, you know every year, the dodgers advance the you know they win the National League West the postseason. Then we get in the seventh eighth and ninth inning and bad things seem to happen at big games. As trying to think about because I knew you bring this up and I'm trying to think last night of what my response would be. Because I was texting dodgers fans in the you know they're blaming Dave Roberts but I don't know what he did. Wrong. Last night he got to the ninth inning lake trying know had been good so far. postseason gives up the home run. Brings in Jake, McGee who is really dominant in the regular season gives up a home run I. Guess bus driver. No. I. Guess. My question you would be does he need to have a plan and say this is my ninth inning guy this is my eighth inning guy and just you know live and die with that decision because he doesn't seem. To necessarily have a plan. No I you know I don't think. So in part of that is just knowing the personalities of some of those guys. Once you have had your conversation Kenley Jansen to tell him, he's not the guy in the ninth inning. Then I think he's you know free to use who he feels matches up in a particular way. For advantages this is what Dave talked about on zoom call with us before yesterday's game you know and knowing Blake trainings personality he doesn't Care Joe Kelley doesn't care and I. Think he just go with the guys who you feel like are best suited and I gotTa say before trying to in through that home run ball to Austin Riley it was looking stuff going man he's got a lot of movement on that sinker. Manny's looking good man boom. That's The. The question is you know should have extended. Dustin may the bases were loaded? I mean, the guy the kid came in after him Victor Gonzalez. I. Know He only has twenty innings in the majors, but he arguably is maybe their best reliever. He. Had Twenty three strikeouts to walks during the regular season. I. Know He's not experienced but I think maybe Gonzalez has to take a little bigger role even though he's a lefty, he's been really good I think you're gonNA keep seeing Dustin May in the pen and you just gotTa go back to try and into McGee. They've been good this year. Yeah and I felt like last night to again after hearing Dave and Brian talked before the game about how they're going to handle the situation where you're playing separate and games in seven days nobody wanted this lean on any particular reliever too hard in in Game One? Dave boop shabby asked him the question on our call about you just WanNa. Make sure you don't use your good guys when you're behind he goes exactly. So when they fell behind last night with training on the mound and he thrown twenty pitches that point. You, new. Day. was going to get him out of the game because he wants to be available for today or available for game three. It's a different puzzle than that. What they've had in the past I wanna ask you about you know as I we had on television the braves and reds, and then because my son is a braves fan I, watch a lot of their games I. Love Their lineup because it just feels like such a great mix. You know there's a Lotta swing and miss there's also a lot of. Power. There's incredible amount of talent when you're talking about a Kunia junior leading off, and then like Freddy Freeman is the perfect guy to be dropped ray the middle of that because he's such a tough hitter. I. Love Marcel. Zuniga coming up after him because he just looks like he can't wait to swing the bat and and you have a guy at the bottom riley who okay he has some holes in his swing. He's going to strike out but he's capable of big damage like you show last night. Yeah. Know it's A Fun lineup and I love Kuni in. Freeman getting one to were maybe conventionally you might think them more is like two and three or even three and four don't get them there at the top of the line of make that pitcher sweat right from the beginning of the game Zona like you said, he just seems so locked in right now you know I covered the cardinals in the playoffs last year and you know he was struggling at the plate and in the field he's healthy I mean he had dominant. Craig Miller season. So you got to pitch the Freeman because Zimba is mashing the ball. So yeah now and Travis Darnall Been Great. So yeah, there's no easy spots in that lineup went through nine. So the one bad thing that happened for the braves last night the fact that atom do ball there leftfielder strained oblique and his right side..

"Up. What's the most important thing you've ever done as a mayor? Well, the most important thing, anyone does mayors make the citizens feel like they're part of the process and an eighth else. You do just stems from that, but we did a lot. I had a really long list of stuff I wanted to get done when I was there, and we got almost all of it done at least to the point where we had the money to do it by the time I was little longer, mayor. So we put in a new track the running track for the high school. We got money for a bunch of fields, we built a bridge over the Brooklyn town. Some of those things were started before I was mayor some of those things we started while I was there. And some of those things we started while as mayor and they finished under the next mayor. But, you know, that's the way local government works always stuff in the queue. There's always stuff moving forward. You just got to add your spin on it. The thing I'm probably most proud of is rebuilding our library, which was falling apart literally had windows. Falling into the street and it was built in nineteen nineteen and hadn't really had any major renovations. So we didn't finish it. While I was mayor, but it's finished now and it's beautiful congratulations. Good job our the project. Do you say you've done your part and making everyone happy to possible to make everybody happy, but you try really hard and at the end of the day. If your heart's in the right place you, can, you know, you can go to bed at night, and sleep. And that's all you can say I'm gonna do the best job I can. And then the next guy comes in and they're going to put their spin on it. But yeah, I, I like to think I did a good job. And it is nice that I think I'm generally well thought of in town. So that's probably good side. He seemed like a nice guy. I never. They do you know what they say. The most important thing is sincerity. And if you fake that you've got it made. Well, I can tell everyone if is nice and cheese. Okay. Thanks a lot things like not having. You might be a little bias. Yeah. So is there any big ally, you'd like to clear up about local government? Well, I mean, I think there wasn't an necessity that we did there weren't really any major errors that the liar throughout. I think the biggest lie of local government is people think that they aren't going to be listened to if they speak up. Very funny, but it's true. I mean if you speak up the old saying the squeaky wheel gets the grease and it's true this week. We'll get the grease. If you don't speak up first of all people at townhall aren't going to know about the problem. Lot of times, you know, no matter how big the town is no one's gonna know what's happening on the on your corner better than you. So you, you have elected officials and people forget that they have elected officials day should use those elected officials. Otherwise, you're not gonna get Greece. Exactly. Right. You know, that reminds me, I have a petition to try and get my wheels fixed late. John need some grease. You have wheels. Yeah. You wouldn't know it because they're not Greece. I wasn't sure if you had wheels, or robot legs, both super interesting fascinating, and I can't wait to run for mayor, so that my own son can tell people not to vote for me. "Hi pants on fire listeners producer. No it here. I'm so glad you're joining us once again, ABRAHAM LINCOLN is quoted as saying that you can fool all the people, some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you can't fool all the people all the time not wanting to be fooled. Ourselves by some lying politician. We double checked president Lincoln's math on that one and after paying data consultant small fortune to crunch the numbers we concluded that the most one could reasonably get away with was to fool sixty four percent of the people seventy one percent of the time, it was only weeks later that we discovered that our data consultant was in fact in Australian teenager running online scam and to add insult to injury. It wasn't even true that the famous quotation came from the supposedly honest, Abe Lincoln, the sweet pants on fire were fooled twice. And for that shame on us. This is all by way of saying that now. Proclaiming gal you'll tell you that it's too late. Coral birds erstwhile, mayor of Lynn ridge, New Jersey rejoins us in the studio to talk more about his meteoric rise to the halls of local power joined as always by ISA, Debra, and Debra son Levi have listened. Everybody. We've got Karl Bergman's and back in the studio with us today. Our mayor, our local government expert, thank you so much for participating in the show and the game you did a great job. So if you don't mind we're going to ask them excellent. Excellent. Thanks, carl. He answers them without us asking, you know, you think he should just. Off. Okay. Yeah, we can start with that dog now. Now. Oh, you're asking the wrong person 'cause you'd be really sorry. I know so many facts, we'd like some facts about local government rightly by. Yep. We've I what did you think of the episode? Did you have some additional questions after listening while I do want to know what it was like to be a mayor? Yeah. You know, you know, there's an old line from notebooks movie. It's good to be the king. It it's the same with marriage. Good to be married. I mean, there are a lot of not so great things about being there, but it is really good to be here. First of all, think about it. Your entire town voted for you to be the mayor. That is, that's a heck of an ego boost. And in fact, I heard somebody singing, I think it was you Deborah. We are champions few minutes ago, time and. Data myself a little bit. I had a I made a recording of we will rock you. We are the champions on cassette tape on a loop and I play that what on a cassette tape in my car loop, what a Luth, what a loop, what a loop, what a loop. What what and I played it over and over again after my election for about two months. Nice. So as mayor are you treated differently any special treatments. Absolutely. Not all good though. I mean, you know, for every for every positive on that there's a negative of that my son once said to me, dad, I hate walking through town with U. He's takes an hour to walk a block because people stop you on the street and they asked you questions. And I said, well, Andrew, if you don't like that you should not run from mayor, because that's the mayor's job is to be available to the public and the public, you know, not always thinking about you. But if they see you, they're gonna stop you and say, hey, why is my trash not being collected in a timely manner? Or when are we going to fix that pothole on hillside avenue, or whatever they have their issues that they see you? That's their best chance to get an answer. Teakamp free stuff in Glen ridge, the mayor receives no remediation of at all. But I did get a parking spot at townhall. Whereas the councilman we make them park on the street. So that was that was nice move up.

"Uh-huh. Pants on fire listeners producer, no eleven in here. The pleasure is all mine. We created pants on fire to do one thing. And one thing only to, cultivate, such a well informed. Kadre of loyal listeners that lies finding no purchase in a world of discerning truth seekers, simply vanished from the face of the earth. So we are back in the booth to learn more about ice cream with Jenny and with Lisa and Levi. Hey, so I could talk about ice cream all day long. How you lead by agreed. Agreed. What's your employment? What's your what's your favorite ice mind? Waverly clip sleep five favorite flavor. Is I'd go with mint chocolate. Chip. I like flavor a lot. How about you? Lisa. Oh, you said you like the copper lead anything that families? Do they make those flavors at blue marble, Johnny? We don't we don't have any mechanical inspire flavors marketing, you're missing. What is your favorite flavor of ice cream? You know, it changes all the time. I'm I love a great vanilla. And but that's kind of a boring answer. So I we just simple vanilla. A couple of delicious flavors. I served last night at a party one was Marcona almond almond ice cream with delicious salty, Marcona almonds, and then another which is the concord grapes flavor. And that was so good New York state concrete. Wow. Yeah. And you are the only certified organic ice cream shop in New York City. We are. Yeah. Wow. So what does that entail? You have to get a the board to certify you would. It means is that everything in our ice cream is certified organic that we get audited every year, and they come in the inspect all of our purchasing records, and they inspect our plant physically. And they just, you know, make sure that everything we're saying is an ice cream is really in the ice cream. But that I'll come. Yeah. Any ice cream flavor? Tasters? Worked for the government to work for that. You'd you would what I get free ice cream. If I worked there if you worked at blue marble. Yeah. If you if you worked at blue marvel you'll get free ice cream, but not unlimited amount actually cap it at a serving per shift. I'm so they're in. Yeah. It's so what's the most popular flavor at blue marble? Well, let me just think people, of course, love Manila, they love cookies and cream. They love a we did this this beautiful flavor called blue the blue marble, and it's supposed to look like the planet earth. When you when you scoop it it's a blue. It's it's colored with a natural butterfly pea flour. So it's the ground up, and it's this beautiful blue, and it has swirled organic marshmallow fluff and swirled peanut butter. So when you scoop it looks like the earth, you're putting butterfly pea in your ice cream. Yeah. I know it doesn't sound that appetito. But it sounds looks super cool. And that's probably what the earth tastes like if it were like. And it makes me hungry. Just about that sounds delicious. Liquid nitrogen thing I have not done. I have not done that. But I'll tell you about another of my favorite flavors is called bread and roses, and it's delicious is a rose as Kremlin with vanilla shortbread, and we came out without for right around the women's March and for a national Women's Day, or because it was named after this poem Bredon roses, which was it was beautiful palm written in. I think nineteen seventeen or something around the women's labor movement. And they said we must have bread, but we must also have roses. So the idea is that even people working hard and toiling they need to have bread to eat. But they also have to enjoy their lives. I love that. Yes. Wow. Flavors. Yeah. I would eat it just for what it stands for. Exactly, what does it taste like it's delicious food. Wallonie? And

But conditioning, your young brains to detect lying is only part of our church here a pants on fire. Another part feeding your hungry intellects with truth. And for that we bring you another edition of. Singer. On pants extinguished. We bring back the truth telling up from last week's show and learn more about their areas of expertise, and these episodes, we give you know gimmicks. No, guessing and most importantly, no liars. So if you haven't listened to our previous episode about cats hit pause, the expert won't be spoilt for. I'll give you a moment. Groomer? Caroline, Yala rejoins us in the studio to talk more feline facts with Lisa Debra and Debra son. We. So thank you. Caroline for hanging around for having. Oh, so much her. It was great. And you just have a really great relaxed voice and tone, and I'm wondering if that's because of cats do cats just make you super chill, and relaxed. Yes, they do. They do relax me. I'm actually really nervous. I never would have guessed that I'm super nervous to do good Deborah dome. Feed me. No, I never do that doing oil lots of stuff mostly ice cream. That makes no sense. No. So you're super nervous. But you don't sound that way. Sometimes when I'm grooming cats. I know they're afraid, and I know that the owners very worried they don't these are not just cats. These these are babies, I try to preach the whole thing like an auntie would or perhaps a made. Why would and and I show that I I've got things under control if I'm ever nervous. I try not to show it we will get through it at the worst case scenario. We can't do it. We don't we just stop. But we do my partner, and I do have to keep our cool and speak calmly because we want we really need the cat to be on board with our vibe and not get any more amped up or nervous. And when you walk in a room, can you tell right away if a cat is nervous or if they're not going to do. Well, absolutely just by the position of the cat in the room. I can tell a lot. And when you walk in the room are you able to? Identify which is the person in which is. You learn that in grooming school. How about you leave? I do you have any questions for Caroline about grooming or what she does. Well, first of all, how do you? Groom can't that's I think the most important thing. I want to how do you do it? Right. My first thing is I have to know what the owner by warming. What does he owner asking from me? And then we'll take it from there. So for some some people just kind of my cat, and they they don't really know what that means. So I have to figure out what the problem is come up with Selena, Shannon. And so the groom is what whatever that particular specific cat. So that cat needs. Just a simple bath to wash away some of the under code and get rid of dandruff. So that the owner can breathe better. I catch us needs a bat. But if it's a different cat who has Matt cats is gonna be very different and more labor intensive and take a little longer. So for each cat, each individual cat, grooming can mean entirely different thing and even for the owner to. Due groome your friends catch for free. I don't grew. My friend's cats for free, but I have one friend. I wanted to shout out to my friend. Andrea who one of my customers leaving overseas and felt that he couldn't take his cat with him. And I could not bear to see this cat go into the shelter system. So my neighbor adopted this cat sight unseen, and he now lives with her and he's so happy, and I will groom that cat forever for free. Because a what she did. Job. Are there any places that actually catch foam? Oh, I I hope I never see any like can we get a reservation? So so back to the lies that all of us tell so Caroline, you don't really get to lie. But you can tell us that there is a lie or a myth about cats that you just want to clear up for the listening public. Absolutely. The myth is a cat's groom themselves. Now cats have these rough little tongues that aid them and removing debris off their coat and just keep them as best as they can clean. However that in no way compares to being cleaned by a grammar by being washed with like water, and soap it really it's it's not it's not the same. If you don't ever groome your cat. That cat is just going to be if it's a long hair cab cat is going to be prone to matting, and they can they cannot get rid of that on their own just from so and that goes for kids to you can't just lik yourself, take a bath or shower. Yeah. Yeah. Sorry. Sorry kid. Thanks, so much Caroline for sticking around and telling us a little bit more about cat, grooming. And thank you for all the service. You do too for the cats and their owners and by thanks to thanks request. Everybody. This is son pants on fire is a production of gen Z media online at best robot ever dot com. "Greetings, pants on fire listeners. Oh, hell I've missed you producer, no here. And I'm excited as always to bring you another edition of. Extinguished? Here at pants on fire. We love to tell lines lies are wonderful after all they can make us feel better cooler and more knowledgeable about the world. Even when we have no idea what we're talking about. But every now, and then we have to check back into reality for a little bit. And that's what pants extinguished is four in each installment of pants extinguished. We bring back the expert from last week show, no liars in this one and be learn more about their area of interest. So if you haven't listened to last week's episode about black holes, stop the tape go back and listen because I'm going to give away the real expert in three two one have you paused good planetarium, educator Christa get joins us in studio to teach us a little bit more about black holes. And she is joined by Lisa, Debra. And Debra son Levi. Well, I want to know more about black holes. Don't you Levi? You do good. Yeah. Do it's very trippy stuff. Right. Lisa. I understand it. All it's pretty easy. Okay. We'll leave. I do you have any questions about black holes. Yeah. Definitely. Okay. Well, I do know if black holes are a liquid solid or a guess I would have to say mostly gas since that's what stars are made of. Then how could it sucks stuff in in light anything made of atoms? Anything that has made of mass has gravity. And if there's a lot of it, you get old guy, but he does need to be solid necessarily. What you think is inside a black hole a lot of stuff lack not black. No, it just be really really hot guys. And a couple of turtles all the way down. Yeah. Hurdles, but there's an endpoint. It's not like the whole keeps going and going. I mean, it kind of. Essentially like a puncture in what's called space time. So there, I'm I you know, we can't I don't know if we can really say like how deep is a black hole. But that singularity point that was talked about in the episode. It's really just to you know, if you want to measure, a singularity at smaller than a p so that's all the mass is packed into this really little timing point. But we don't know. I don't know how deep it goes. I don't know if anyone really does is it possible to ever stop a black hole from sucking Adamson. Once you cross the event horizon, no law. Yeah. Is there some intrigue Alaska? Judiciary system or something body. Maybe that's what intergalactic science monthly. To has a black hole ever been seen using special photography. No black hole has never ever been. There are people working on that trying to make some sort of way to take a photograph. The closest thing we've done is taken a photograph of gas as as being pulled in to the the center of Nokia, wait. That's so cool. Really don't feel bad. What good is it because it's so far away or because you just can't get close enough to it to take the picture before everything. That's like that. Well, there's nothing to take a picture of because no late even if we shine to light onto a black hole. It wouldn't be reflected back to our eyes to see it. So there's really no way to actually see. Yeah. But if the gas is being sucked in when you see the gasping sucked into the whole only to a certain point what point the event horizon. And all of this. You have figured out through calculations and what's going on around it. Right. Exactly. But this lot of guessing and people coming up with hypotheses and just trying to prove them is that right freight. I mean, there's a lot of ideas, and, you know, the more evidence that we can collect about there's an astronomer called her name's Andrea goes she studied for many years with a team watching just twenty six stars orbiting around the solitary say star in our Milky Way. And that's how we found out that it was there, and it's really indirect evidence. Like that that helps us learn more about whether they exist if you can't really see black hole. How do you know if there's such thing as a black hole? So the just like what we were talking about like the same way that you can tell that wind is there, even though you can't see it. So by if a star gets too close to a black hole in the coal sensually. We'll start eating it.

"Episode of. Each installment of pants extinguished endeavors to quench last week's fiery blaze of misinformation by kicking the liar out of the studio and bringing back the real expert for a bonus interview on his or her topic. So consider this spoiler alert. If you haven't listened to last week's episode about lice than hit pause. Don't check it out and then return to pants extinguished for the unvarnished truth as usual pants extinguished features, Deborah Goldstein, son Levi, not to be confused for last week's contestant. We've I or for Levi Strauss, the inventor of blue Jews memory serves correctly. He was wearing blue jeans at the time of recording. We're so excited that Lena is here to talk to us a little bit more about lies. I feel like we just started. Really we were just getting warmed up. You know? And with us today. Also is our child interview or Levi who also happens to be my kid. Yes. You gotta know people in this world what brought on some of my babies share bring 'em in bring him in. So leave. I thank you for coming. You have a choice. I made you get in the car. Yeah. Yeah. We have Lena here. Who's talked to us about? Did you hear the show? You heard the game where you fooled. Nope. No. You knew you knew ahead of time. Because I had a cheat. No cheaters never prosper, but I did win. You one is good for you. That's what's important. It doesn't matter. How you win as long as you win the teach. Okay. We learned a little bit about lice. But I feel like I have some more questions. Lisa. What about you? Do you more questions? What do I name them? What are they taste like? Taste like everybody. I don't think they're healthy. No, no. I don't know. I think insects can be healthy some protein suck on the insides of your stomach. Ooh. Gross. But you said they're high in protein Lee nice now, I don't know. Bugs in general. Well, this is a real question. Do they serve a purpose in evolution or in in our in the cycle of life? So I was kind of hoping for this question. Oh, yeah. Headlines. They helped scientists figure out what when modern humans started to wear clothing based on body lice, which is a parasite that lives in the body. But and clothing, and they have evolved directly from headlights when the scientists figure that out they were able to use age netted dating technique called the molecular clock to determine that headlights in body split over one hundred seventy thousand years ago, which is when we humans began wearing clothing. This is a key factor. In lowering our ancestors to migrate and Khan is in different parts of the world. And it's out to different climates. It's better not to wear clothes. Or if we never did wear clothes than body lice would disappear vitalize, I guess so. Wow. Piece. So they do they evolved. But do they serve a purpose? Do does anybody feed off of their bug other bug nigger massive feed off of lay? No, not that. I know of this is the only purpose of headlights that I was able to dig up on the internet. Have you put an aunt on your head? They will just go to town. But what is they try eating your own head? Well, only if you're an ant, right? You got your mom's sisters and in the family tree of and I understand. So if everybody is shaved shave their heads does that would we rid ourselves of headlight? Yes, we would. Yes. We the headlights. They need warmth from the hair to lay there. And it's so the the knits need incubation from the warmth of the head of the scalp and the hair to tach. They also need strong role models, and that's why you should fallen tear your local head shepherd lice through these awkward life faces..
