"100% fully recovered from the knee surgery that he had today in Los Angeles with doctor Neil Ellis. And by the way, his teammate Mackay Becton also officially out for the year. Yeah, he's going to have surgery later this week in Los Angeles with the same doctor, by the way, surgery has not happened yet, but he was placed on IR his season officially over. The jets officially added Dwayne Brown yesterday so the team now has this new left tackle and right tackle combo with George fan moving over to the right side. We go from the jets to more joint practices as the packers are playing host to the New Orleans Saints. These two teams met all the way back in week one of last regular season the game was played in Jacksonville good to see these two teams that had plenty of defense and plenty of new faces amongst wide receivers on offense this off season and time now for us to bring in the great rob the MOFs who covers the packer force here at ESPN and rob sounded like a good day out there in Green Bay. What did you see on the field? Well, it wasn't that great of a day for the receivers field. In fact, if the expiration date on Aaron Rodgers patients with the young receivers was August 16th while he's reached it, they've expired. He expressed frustration with the group for the first time, really, since they lost devonta Adams in free agency. Now he's not frustrated with Allen lazard, who he thinks can be a legitimate number one. He's not frustrated with Randall Cobb, who he called one of the premier slot receivers in the NFL and not with Sammy Watkins either who's he said had his best practice today against the saints, but after watching mistakes and routes and drops cost Jordan love three interceptions in the preseason game against San Francisco and then another sloppy practice today. Rogers said that those young receivers have got to become more consistent. I asked them when does consistency have to inconsistency, excuse me, have to turn into production and he said, well, it's now the time is now it's coming. Giving the obvious answer that they're running out of time before the opener. Now they will get some reinforcements back in the passing game. Christian Watson, their top draft pick, the second round pick and Robert Tonya and their tight end have both come off P UP. Now, none of them did anything in the team stuff against the saints today. They're just doing individual drills, but the fact that they're back here in practice and doing some individual stuff and some jog through stuff field, at least gives Rogers a couple of more weapons before they get to that season opener at Minnesota. All right, there you have it. The latest on the packers pass catchers from rob demos. Thank you so much for joining us here. Rob. Another day of doing practice is coming up tomorrow. There's been plenty of talk about how Green Bay's offense will look without devonte Adams this season, but one thing seems certain. Aaron Rodgers success could be defined by his protection up front. Last season Rogers ranked top three in QBR completion percentage and yards per tech when kept clean, but when he was pressured, he reached at the bottom of the league in all of those same areas, so Damon is our resident offensive lineman, both packers offensive tackles are coming off of injuries. David bakhtiari still on puppy, how concerned are you about this packers offensive line right now? I'm concerned. I'm concerned. I mean, listen, we just looked at the stats on the graphic right there. Yeah. When he, you know, and this is the case with any quarterback really, but obviously Aaron Rodgers is really a stark difference. Oh, there's no question about it. He's greatly, you know, effective with that pressure. You're talking about both starting tackles that are coming back from major surgery as much as we talk about The Rookie wide receivers and obviously the tandem in the backfield with AJ Dylan and Aaron Jones. If you don't have the protection, you don't have the guys on the edges to give Aaron Rodgers to a clean pocket to survey those guys. What does it matter? None of it matters. So to me, when I look at the Green Bay Packers, that's what I got my eye on. Yeah, it's almost in the same vein of how we talk about New England with the benefit of the doubt with Bill Belichick, but this is live action and when you're on that field, your protection predicates how good you are in quarterback, obviously, by the graphic that we showed, but the more the thing that I really focus on and what robbed in my Damascus coming off of is the rapport receivers help you get the ball out of your hands quicker. And the one thing I think receivers have to understand in a couple of guys that's been around lazard and obviously we're in the cop and getting telling you back is that Aaron Rodgers is going to make throws that other quarterbacks in the NFL can't make. He's going to take chances in tightrope throws that other guys just aren't able to do. It's a couple Herbert and obviously Patrick Mahomes, but ultimately getting on the same page with these guys is a part of your offensive line as well. Being able to protect and maybe needing a little bit more time to push the ball downfield because you don't have that report built. It'll be interesting to watch, man. This is not a great combination. When you're trying to break in receivers, especially trying to find a number one guy after what you lose with devonta Adams, but also worrying about protection and time that you have to throw the football. Remember this fellas, Aaron Rodgers is going to throw the ball sometimes and we are going to be like, what is happening? You got to have receivers that understand that as well and you need time to do that. Rob said he's frustrated with young receivers. Yeah. Christian Watson is just back at practice. He didn't name him, but he unofficially named him, right? Like, that's who you took it to be. Right. Now he's been sensational during training camp, and I would think that any young receiver is going to have ups and downs. And so this seemed like a down day, I guess, for him. After a week in which he caught a long pass, also dropped a ball or two. So again, ups and downs. I think that's par for the course for the young receivers, and that's why this team is going to have to lean on running the football short passes. Robert tongue and getting him back at tight end, hopefully, and having him back for the start of the season, throwing to the two backs out of the backfield, doing other things that are a little bit different than they've done in the past. But you know what? That's the experts when you expect it to win now. You know, Aaron Rodgers talked about like, guys, we don't have time to wait like literally week one it's coming. You know, if this is a rebuilding team, it's one thing, but when you're expected to contend for a championship, it's almost like we don't have time to wait for you. You got to figure it out right now. And they certainly don't want to repeat of last year's week one. 38 to three against the New Orleans Saints, the game was being played in Jacksonville, of course, because you just chose, you just chose violence. I couldn't help myself. Second time on the show today, I'm feisty today. Hey, time now for one more thing. And Aaron Rodgers may not have trust with his young wide receivers at least entirely, but he doesn't have a Nick cage bust in his locker and Damien, that to me feels like raising enough to believe he could be the back to back to back MVP this year. Yeah, man, his swag is just on a trillion right now. I mean, to have a Nick K busting your locker. Who does that? Yeah, hey, swagger, did you ever carry anything weird in your locker during your playing days? Nah, nothing weird at all. Pitch up my family, but I wasn't good enough to put no foolish people. You first try, come on now, swagger. I don't mean you're good enough. I had to go back to the league as far as I could say. You could have whatever you wanted in your locker. NFL live continues tomorrow. Watch the previously football marathon tonight.

"For my reaction y'all, listen, man. I actually got a candle for my zen. On this situation. 'cause yesterday we were gonna get into this on the show and we ran out of time. And it's not about the penalties for me. It's about Mike McCarthy's reaction. Mike McCarthy last year, when we watched the Dallas Cowboys, you were a penalty laden. There has been 206. You are the most penalized football team in the NFL in the last two years, I believe. Or the last year, 266 of them. And you get 21 penalties in your first preseason game when after this season, that should have been the focus of you and your coaching staff. You've been practicing and training camp. You've had OTAs. You've probably had guys up there voluntarily involuntarily practicing as well. You drafted an offensive line and they came out of college with some penalty issues who I think is going to be very good if he can get the holding penalties fixed in tireless Smith. And you say it's only the precinct. No, it's not. It's about last year. And the year before that, and the preseason showed us that where was the addressing of the penalties? You want the American public to believe and be okay with the most penalized team in the regular season last year to be okay with 21 pillars. I talked about it at halftime. I talked about it after that. We'll have to go look at it. It's the preseason. Brother, this ain't got a damn thing to do with the preseason. This is about the Dallas Cowboys being the most penalized team in football and you shrug your shoulders at 21 penalties. The first time we see you out in some simulated live action. I get it that started wasn't out there, but within shifted, let me ask you all a question and I'm gonna end this diatribe. Wasn't a damn starters out there last year when they got all them Kennedy. Preseason doesn't count, but it matters. Yeah. That's so true. It's become a cliche. It's a great expression. But it matters. And when you're coming off a season where you're the most penalized team in the National Football League because the one thing about penalties, penalties is a reflection of coaching. Yes. Yes. It's a reflection of coaching, how you discipline your team. Is your team disciplined enough to go out there and execute without creating mental errors. Because that's what pillows are. The mental errors. And free snap stuff. Absolutely. So this whole latte fit attitude by Mike McCartney always just preseason. Oh, it's no big deal. The next thing you know and week four, same thing is happening. We can't all happening. And I think that's to me is the big problem here is when does it end? When does it end? Well, so if penalties are a reflection of coaching, we also know that the cowboys finish to last season was in many ways a reflection of coaching when they dialed up a play with insufficient time to get the next logo team back on the field. I know swag, it's why the rumors are already percolating, but the possible pissed. I get it. Last year, I stood on the hill and said, they gonna get these things fixed. Me woody and chef day and you babyface was on shows last year. And you guys can attest that I was like, it ain't no way Mike McCarthy in this coaching staff gonna let this trend continue throughout the season. And it called it, I ain't gonna say it cost him because San Francisco dessert a win the game. But it damn sure didn't help that your season ended the way it did. Sure. After I'm standing on the table saying, it ain't no way a professional football team coaching staff is gonna allow them to allow that to cost them in January potentially or December, the things that's happening in September and October, and they're damn well did. I think one of the realities of the NFL chef D is that in previous times, maybe we would talk about coaches and job security much closer to the end of the season. It's a different NFL and I think that no coach enters a season under more pressure than Mike McCarthy. There's already been talk about Sean Payton who conveniently happens to have roots in Dallas, is now retired from the NFL, although he has said he will go back to coaching at some point he expects. How much job security does Mike McCarthy have or maybe not have? Do you notice how feel framed that whole thing? He has Sean Sean Payton. He hasn't done. Let me ask me about his job security. When he put it on. Little baby face. When total assassin right there. I'm just reading the script. I'm creating this script. Let's put it out. Let's make sense of this, right? Let's basic facts. You said coaches are some of the most scrutinized jobs in the league. Or no coach is more scrutinized than the Dallas Cowboys head coaching job. Sean Payne to your point is out there. Whether Mike McCarthy likes it or not. Every time there is a setback with the franchise, every time something goes wrong, every time a game is lost, every time the fans are upset. Everybody's going to be calling for Sean Payne. That's a reality of the upcoming season, whether he likes it. It's just a part of his job. The irony is is that they got hired the same year. Mike McCarthy and a green based Sean Payton to New Orleans were part of the same rookie coaching class got there. Hey coaching jobs and the same question and now the shadow of Sean Payton for better or worse hangs over the job that Mike McCarthy does in Dallas. Just the way it is. It sort of reminds me of when a team as a young quarterback on the roster that fans want to see, but the veteran still has a starting job and the only way for the veteran to keep that job is to just keep winning. That's the only way to quiet the chatter about something like Sean Payton. And when babyface is going after the head coach, while asking a question, you know that he's got real issues. Again, I'm just saying. I'm just saying, we'll see what happens with the cowboys. They have lost 11 straight coat of seasoned games prior to making the conference championship. As long as my energy is at least 1970, hey, fantasy football seasons around the corner, stick that stick around to find out which players impact both fantasy and reality. New on NFL live who've developed in Pittsburgh, chefs is what can you tell us? Well, feel for the first time today during practice, steelers first round draft pick Kenny Pickett took some reps with the starting offense in the two minute drill. He had not taken any reps with the first team offense in till today. Again, it was just in the two minute drill, but it happened today for the first time, make of that what you will, Damien woody. Listen, I'm telling you right now. Mitchell trubisky better be careful because if you're taking reps in a two minute drill, that's the hardest thing to hardest thing to operate. Yes. You're calling your own shots. Going up against the defense, if you can operate a two minute drill and

"Early in his teeth as a quarterback, but then we start to see the ball go to the other team. Unfortunately for the Carolina Panthers right now, you got a bank on your running back, being available and playing the entire season, which is not happened in an extended period of time. I love Christian McCaffrey and what he brings. But God bless him 'cause he gonna have to be the catalyst for this offense. He's going to have to make everyone around him job easier. And that's the quarterback's especially. And guys, listen, Matt rule is talking and thank goodness they get to play and practice against New England Patriots because they will show you defenses that'll be a little bit more tricky than most teams that you either play or practice against, but this is about Christian McCaffrey this year because if we expect the Sam dornan or Baker Mayfield to have a revival like a church tent in a 140°, it ain't happening. These guys are who they are by now. This league is honest, this league is very telling. And y'all go back and research for me how many guys we've seen play troublesome football the first three or four years of their career and then somehow magically turn around and become great players. I don't know many of them. It's a very short list that much is for sure swag us and signing a four year 64 million dollar extension a couple of off seasons ago. Christian McCaffrey has played in just ten out of 33 games for the care aligner panther. I'd love to see him back on the field much more with this season. Hey, so to come here on NFL live, we're talking colds because they're offense fly higher with Jonathan Taylor running The Rock less here with David essay about that next. And speaking of running backs, naji era said he would carry the ball 500 times this season if it meant the Steelers were winning games. But what we have to shoulder that kind of load, Marcus weighs in. The brake. We are back here at NFL live and we're gonna get some fantasy type Intel in here and we start with the colts and the possible RV one of my possible I mean the definite RB one going into this season. Here's coach colts head coach Frank Reich about Jonathan Taylor's role for this season. Quote, the goal is not to leave the league in rushing. The goal is not to make Jonathan Taylor the MVP of the league, the goal is to win championships. He knows that, and we all know that. That's what we're all about. You don't see teams that have this ground compound run game win championships. You just jumped. In the end, is this deterred all from taking Jonathan Taylor number one over all you have the first pick in our draft tonight. Listen, if I had some glasses, I would take them off right now. So, I used to swag us down. There's no Dutch vlog. You don't want a fancy chain. He doesn't want me to be great right now. He does not want me to be great right here. I'm taking Jonathan Taylor tonight number one. I'm not supposed to tip your picks. No, but I'm doing it. I'm letting it go right now. He's out here Lando magic. I'm ignoring the noise, okay? I'm ignoring it. I'm ignoring I'm with you. I mean, what if it's Russian goes down by like a 150 yards of cereal still be by far the leading rusher in the NFL unless Derek Henry decides to be wealth there, Henry. Let's go to the raiders. There have been big changes in Vegas, but Darren Waller is still a top ten tight end while only having two touchdowns last season. How about this quote on the great bustle with the boys podcast quote there were a lot of times the last couple of years where I felt like there wasn't a clear defined attack in the red zone or like a plan for me specifically. I was kind of like, what the bleep am I doing? Sometimes, but now I kind of feel like that's something that's in place with Josh of course McDaniels. For me, there's no reason why my big ass shouldn't be dominating in the red zone at all. Okay. Chef de with the addition of the on the Adams who gets the reds on targets here in Las Vegas. Well, that's the key there, field. They add devonta Adams and so you have to figure that defenses will be shifting their defense and coverage to the Volta Adams, giving that much more wiggle room to a guy like Darren Waller. I know there's a lot of targets to feed in Vegas hunter Renfro devonta Adams downhill, but Darren Waller should be original force. I'm looking forward to it. Let's go to Pittsburgh where naji here is bursting onto the scene last season and turned to touch us. He led the entire league. Here's what he had to say about his usage going forward. I'll get 500. I'm happy with it. You know what I mean? It was immediately that this year. I told them every game. I was like, man, look, if this is the way the winning, I can carry the load, you know, but I trained to carry loads, you know what I mean? It's not something that I haven't done before. I did in college high school, you know what I mean? NFL. Me to get that much hair because I was like, man, is we winning games, you know what I mean? It was a long streak where it was something like 5 25 series in and, you know, we're undefeated. So a lot of your 500 series, as long as we went in and it doesn't really matter. And swaggy, that's a lot. It's not Harris need 500 for the Steelers to win. Man, I don't we ever want us a year now Jay Harris saying that again. No, please God don't let him meet 500 carries for the Pittsburgh steel is the wind. He had to carry the ball so much last year 'cause we ain't know of being rosenberger all was gonna show up to the game. But now you got bitch and trubisky, you got athletic quarterbacks that can take some carries off now Jay with their athleticism. Different type of play structure we're getting these guys out on boots, whether that's trubisky or Kenny Pickett and those guys can run as well. No now Jay, no, no 500 no. Don't say that no more. Naji Harris. I mean, come on now, 500. I take that. I'm Mark Jeff a number one overall if I could get 500 opportunities from naji Harris this season. You know, I was so selfish. It's only the preseason. As you guys know, even though swagger is in regular season four, but cowboys fans be worried about their team's discipline. Marcus always has some thoughts on his cowboys. A stick around to hear what he is. I've got Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. The new owners of Wrexham AFC. FX presents welcome to Wrexham and original documentary series. You feel like you know what you're doing? Absolutely not. What happens when two Hollywood celebrities become owners of a Welsh football club? Is it community looking around going, what are these two guys doing here? Is that successful? It will be one of the biggest days in the history of the town. FX is welcome to Wrexham premieres August 24th on FX stream on Hulu. Our first week two NFL preseason game as the bear is taking on the Seahawks, Thursday, DNews from 5 Pacific on ESPN, ESPN deportes, and the ESPN app Steve, leaving Lewis Reddick and Dan orlowski on the call, Laura Rutledge will be there on the field, our coverage begins at 7 eastern four Pacific with a special edition of Monday, night, countdown. All right. On to the cowboys, they open up their pre season schedule against the Broncos past Saturday. They picked up, unfortunately, where were they left off last season as far as penalties are concerned? They can make a committed, excuse me, 21 penalties in the loss, 17 of them were accepted. This coming after last season in which they led the entire NFL in penalties. Here's head coach. Mike McCarthy on Dallas and struggles with the infractions. I think we all recognize that this isn't the record season, so I understand your question and as far as last year it was last year. This is preseason. I don't think this has anything to do with last year. I don't like I didn't like the number of pounds. You know, made clear I talked about it halftime. And talked about it briefly in there. So we'll take a long look at it. Swaggy, what'd you make of Michael McCarthy's reaction?

"We are now 21 hours into our fantasy football marathon and nearly 1.66 million people. Have signed up to play fantasy football on the ESPN fantasy app and more fantasy to come throughout the show is we're gonna talk about what Frank Reich said about his star running back that might give you just a tiniest bit of pause about drafting him. It feels like swag goo looking crispy as is our gay guy Damian woody who tells me that he went to swag us barber here yesterday. He is also handy. Yeah. Yeah. Let's try to go as a Bristol barber. Oh yeah. Yeah, you're right I do. Yeah. You didn't write I do. All you do is all you do is put a razor and do this, chef. I gotta get this thing grown. And you do. You do that well. At top level, we also have of course Adam Schefter here at Jesse. We're gonna start with you because we have some breaking news running jets quarterback Zach Wilson once the latest. Still, the underwent surgery today in Los Angeles and it went about as well as the jets could hope doctor Neil Ellis repaired his torn meniscus and the jets initially had said it would be about two to four weeks. It sounds like it's going to be closer to that four week timeline. Maybe a little longer because the jets are going to be very careful with Zach Wilson and not bring him back until he's fully ready. And that means that right now with the jets playing the Baltimore Ravens in week one, I think Joe Flacco, the former ravens quarterback, is in line to start against his former team with Zach Wilson on the men, but today when as well as the jets could have voted. Absolutely. And we know that Robert sulla and the whole organization had talked about they feel good going into this whole situation as far as the surgery is concerned and now I think they can exhale a little bit knowing that his surgery went well that he'll be on the men and they pointed out that listen, he's not going to get back on the field until he's a 100% ready. So it'll be the Joe flag show and I've been out there to the jets training camp. Joe Flacco can still sling the ball around. Like his arm is still loudly at 37 years old. So I think the jets feel pretty good about Joe Flacco filling in for Jack Wilson for as long as it needs be. There you go woody, that's what I wanted you to get to. You can take your time because you feel good about Joe Flacco. That's a great situation to be in for Joe Douglas and the New York Jets. But the one thing that hit my mind was also man he need these reps. Zach Wilson, I'm talking about. I just hope that he's able to continue to keep the football acumen going because remember now fellas, when he come back, it's live action. For a guy that didn't see a lot of action last year. So hopefully, during this rehab process, he can stay truly engaged and I know it's easy. Here's the thing woody and everybody think, oh, he engaged him meeting rooms. But when you're not playing, you have to actually put a little extra mental effort into preparing for these weeks like you're actually going to go out and play. And for a young guy, that can be something you need to learn over time. So I'm looking forward to seeing what he does stuff back on the field, how up to breast he is and how fans he can get going and start ascending. This is a huge year for Zach Wilson fellas. If Joe Flacco has started in week one, that would mean that we have Joe Flacco, facing off against the ravens. We would have Russell Wilson in week one, facing off against the office. Week one is officially reunion week in the NFL. And not good ones don't feel not good. These are divorces you see your ex with a new man somewhere. What is the revenge tour in week one? Let's keep it in the AFC east and go from the jets to the Patriots and the Panthers. As they are holding a joint practice today, Bill Belichick and Mac Jones out there working on the Patriots, new offense, and of course, on the other side of the ball, we just told you about baker Mayfield, he's getting plenty of important reps as he continues to compete with Sam darnold for that starting quarterback job in Carolina and we are going to head right out to July stadium where we find our guy Mike Reese, of course the Intrepid patriots Porter for us here at ESPN and Mike, I'm not sure if anybody's asked you about this for the past 6 months, but what is the latest in terms of how the Patriots are approaching their offensive coordinator situation? Oh, field, this has to be the only place in the NFL where reporters are watching the sideline as much as they're watching the field. Let me tell you what I saw in this morning's joint practice with the Panthers. Matt Patricia had the walkie talkie, and it seems like he is still the primary voice in Mac Jones helmet. But it really is interesting to watch more than Patricia, but also Bill Belichick when they split the field for the first time and it was the Patriots offense against the Panthers defense and on the other field, the Patriots defense was against the Panthers offense. Bill Belichick was over with the Patriots often. So he's still a very big part of this coaching up the offense. And just to give you a quick flavor of what happened today, two minute offense was a chance for Mac Jones and that top unit to maybe get a little momentum going ahead a couple big plays feel to get it going and then it fizzled out. That's reflective a little bit of where the offense is. Some good things, but still looking for that defining moment. Well, Mike, I'm sure we'll keep you busy following this offensive coordinator story until week one. And then it'll be a whole different story. When we find out what actually happens when the patriot traveled to Miami, great stuff from Mike as always looking forward to day two. If you want to practice this tomorrow, let's go back to the offensive coordinate situation. What more can you add to the dynamic in play in New England? Well, Mike is right. Where else have we debated? Who's calling plays or who's running the offense? It's more than in New England. And while I have no doubt that they're going to miss Josh McDaniels, who's one of the top play callers in the league. The fact that the Patriots could draw as much scorn and criticism and skepticism as they have surprised me like Bill Belichick knows a thing or two about football. So I think he knows what he's doing when he appoints Mac Patricia to Cole plays and he's involved in the offense. Is it going to be as good and as efficient as it would be if Josh McDaniels were running the outfits? No. Josh mundane was one of the best in the league, but Bill Belichick is a pretty good sense about how football is played about how offenses are run about how defenses like to attack and yes, I think there'll be some growing pains. But again, I will give that organization the benefit of the doubt. Swaggy, it sounds like you feel a little bit differently about this because how are you feeling about the possibility of map Patricia or Joe judge calling plays in New England? You see how she has to phrase that 'cause he know we about to have a day I'm fighting. I would he on my side. And I don't listen to the guy who's got his beard. So neatly. Here's the thing. Here's the thing and the reason why we do have paws is exactly what shifty she and about Bill Belichick, but ultimately fellas, like come on now, let's settle in and start thinking about this from a football perspective. They don't have an offensive coordinator. To me, this is mind boggling that this is not concerning for anybody. And we could call it whatever we want to, but both of these guys are auditioning to be the to be the offensive play caller. If you're using two, because all of our history teaches us about Bill Belichick, he likes gnomes. He doesn't like things to be up in the air. He wants to know where he's going, where the team sits and how he's going to move forward. And maybe they have that within the building. But if one of these guys have ascended, or if you plan on using two, why not just say that? Because and look, you could tell me about game playing in other teams don't know what the hell you gonna do and it's gonna give you an it ain't no it ain't because I look at this conference that they're in, you can't have a middle of the pack offensive. I'm not sure if the New England Patriots had a good offensive coordinator because I don't consider Matt Patricia or Joe judge either one of them calling plays to be good offensive coordinators right now 'cause we've never seen it. That's important, but outside of that, we talking about Joe burrow, Justin Herbert, Russell Wilson, we talking about Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen within their division and God help us if to a place well, the New England Patriots might not make the playoffs. And we sit here talking about trying to figure out who they're offensive according to going to be. This is not normal. This is not normal, and I don't want things ever think it's normal because it's Bill Belichick. Well, we

Newt Gingrich Joins Dinesh to Talk About Biden's America

"Guys, I'm really happy to welcome to the podcast Newt Gingrich. Man who needs no introduction, but he's the chairman of gingrich 360, a multimedia production company, former Speaker of the House of Representatives and architect of the well legendary contract with America in 1994, nude is also a Fox News contributor podcast host newt's world and syndicated columnist and his latest book, which we're going to be talking about defeating big government socialism, saving America's future, newt, welcome to the podcast, great to have you. You've been the architect of some of the pivotal strategies that have been deployed by the Republicans over the last few decades. I'd like your assessment of where we are as a country today because it seems like we're living in a different America. Than the one we lived in, let's just say in the post Reagan era, even in the Clinton era, and that things have become more decayed more debilitated, more divided than ever. Do you agree with that assessment or do you have maybe a more a different take? Well, I think that the easiest analogy is that we've had a cancer of anti American left wingers. Which first really began to show up in the early 1960s with the work of people like marcuse at Berkeley, the student free speech movement of Berkeley. The weatherman, the black Panthers who openly said that they were out to assassinate police and actually killed 13 policemen. The fact that there are something like a 180 cities burning in the late 1960s, there were 2500 bombings in, I think, 1970, 71, and there was a lot of stuff out there. And then the country sort of reacted to it. And Nixon silent majority turned out to be real. But it was captured for me and two of theater whites amazing books on the making of the president. In the 1968 making the president, he has a chapter on the news media, which you could write today. He says, here's the role of The New York Times. Here's the old Washington Post. Here's how far to the left they are, et cetera. So it was already locked in in 68. And in 72, he wrote a sentence, which I thought was amazingly prescient. He said the problem of govern head and the reason he couldn't cut a deal. Was that, in the left, that liberal ideology had become a liberal theology.

"We've got four to Panthers GM Billy zito. He's going to join us coming up shortly on the podcast man. Drake. They're the greatest show on ice right now. I mean after game, if you're a team struggling with generate generating offense and I don't, you know, not every team as a world class talent, the Florida Panthers have, but just watch. You know, just watch a period of how that team attacks. It's wave after wave after wave. Well, and just when you think you've got them figured out, mason marchment throws a 6 pointer up on the board. So while everyone's looking at uberto and barkov and duclair, for plus 6 for you, that's a pretty nice line. No kidding and I you know I'm looking at his contract $800,000 this year. And then he's an unrestricted free agent. So his timing is pretty good. Yeah, you know what though? You know, and you know we get into we'll get into it with Billy zito a little bit, but that's one of the things the Panthers have done really well is they found value contracts and made it work for them. You know, they everybody knew that Carter for Hague was close to being a good player. Well, they got him at a really reasonable price and he's given them two really good years. I do see some people saying, well, yeah, you know, but next year they're going to have to pay these guys. Well, that's fine. So maybe you can't. And they move on to another place, and that's where you're scouting has to be sharp because you got to replace them. Or you've got to draft well. And Matt Florida has got some just some exciting players to watch and man 8 goals on Columbus. It was in the second period in your life real. All right, well, Florida path. There's general manager Billy zito.

"Is Henry. We'll see. Another, by the way, we already did XFL AF legends. What about when Tony Pollard goes in the game for Zeke? Still pretty good. But still pretty good. Not as good also, you're looking at a little differently here because I think we overrated Ezekiel Elliott for a long time. That's what I would say about that rookie season he was amazing. He was, but let's not also forget for the majority of his career, he's run behind the top three offensive line in the NFL. Like the offensive line dictates running back successful time. Thank you. That's the point, right? That's what that's why a guy like AP can step in for Derek Henry. But what I'm telling you is the offensive line and a good system of football well. I'm not saying, look, I'm not saying that running backs are solely responsible for their own success. But what I'm saying is, Derek Henry, it's different. Derek Henry can generate his own success regardless of the offense. You can't tackle patriots. The Patriots play the Titans, was that week 12? Yeah. I think it is. And there's a chance that Derek Henry might not play in that game, but at least we're gonna have a sample size of what four games. I think it is of Adrian Peterson in there for I'm not saying that he's gonna be as good as Derek Henry, but I'm saying that it's actually three games. Week 12, three games right after Thanksgiving is when the Patriots play the Titans. I'm not saying that it's going to be as good as Eric Henry. I'm saying that you're not going to notice a huge discrepancy just like you will. There's having noticed a huge discrepancy with choba hover on the ground. So here's what I'd say. Derek Henry and I can't remember the exact number. I found this data a long time ago and I can't refine it. But when the NFL, and this is going to send you through the roof, but this is for everybody else. When the NFL stats tackles, there's two kinds of tackles. They're solo tackles in combo tackles. The highest percentage of, you know, for any ball carrier, the highest percentage of combo tackles. So the guy who is hardest to tackle one on one last year was Derek Henry, and he was something like 15 points ahead of the next closest player. You spent that's beyond the offensive line because the offensive line gets him the hole, but no other player refuses to be brought down by the first person to come tackle them other than Derek Henry, and that's where I go back to that combination. The only comparison I can think of for that was prime Rob Gronkowski because when Gronk was in his back, right? When he was at like 2013 when he had that massive season, right? 2011 was 2011. Did he go back, remember the plane Washington where he's carrying three guys down the sideline? The first person to Rob Gronkowski never made the tackle. Never. That's what Derek Henry does that job doesn't do it. Elliott doesn't do it. Khmer doesn't do it. None of them do it. Derek Henry, it's on another level because the offensive line. All right, well we'll see because like I mentioned,.

"And we've seen rural do that. And we've seen Joe Brady do that. And that's why I like that group a lot better than I like a guy like Stefanski or a guy like Lafleur or guy like Shanahan because what they have works if it works really well. The conditions are right, but the conditions aren't always right. We've seen Brady in rural adapt and that's why I liked the Panthers coming into this season. Obviously, you know, there's only so much adapting you can do when you lose a player like Christian McCaffrey. Three with him one and four without him and speaks for himself. But, you know, you talk about kind of being surprised about that. And I'm not because even with burrow at LSU, I mean, they adapted they still threw the ball a ton, but they never threw the ball the same like you wouldn't see two games where they're really using the same carbon copy strategy. You see that even more ecology doing the NFL. Joe Brady's not somebody who's afraid to deviate from what he knows if it's going to help him win a football game. And we talked about Bill being the ultimate game plan coach. And I think that's a huge reason for success. I think that gets undersold all the time. How much of a game plan coach Bill Belichick truly is? Maybe the purest example of a game plan coach leagues ever seen. And they're facing another game plan team this week. Yeah, Matt Matt rose been pretty impressive. I mean, the record hasn't necessarily yet but he hasn't really had the quarterback. But I a 100% agree with you that he feels like the type of guy that is adjusting and adapting to his personality. And the one thing that you mentioned missing a guy like McCaffrey, the record speaks for itself, but also their passing game production has absolutely gone in the tank since Christian McCaffrey got hurt. And if you watch their first couple of weeks with McCaffrey on the field, it's not just him catching the football out of the backfield. It's also the gravity of Christian McCaffrey being on the field. There are so many instances that I could pull up from the first two weeks where two or three guys converge to Christian McCaffrey and it leaves somebody else open down the field or it leaves DJ Moore one on one with space or leaves Robbie Anderson on a vertical because everybody is so keyed on CMC. And once you take that out of your offense, now defenses are applying resources to Robbie Anderson and DJ Moore. And they're coming after Sam darnold because they don't have to worry about the back out of the backfield. And the running game has pretty much stayed steady without McCaffrey. They're exactly the same running team with McCaffrey as they happen without. But they're passing numbers have absolutely gone into the tank since McCaffrey left the lineup because of that injury. It's kind of weird. They have averaged 4.1 rushing yards per attempt with McCaffrey and 4.1 rushing yards per attempt without McCaffrey. Two hubbards, giving them the exact same production. But in the passing game, there is a complete difference in their production in that side of things. I mean, you remember me during the draft. I was a big I'm still a big trooper guy like me. I think he's.

"But, you know, this is AFC versus that cardinals game means a lot. I think it's more worth it to them to not take that risk and have them carefree fresh for Arizona. Yeah, all right. What about the running backs going back to the Patriots offense for a second? Is this a game that we see or Monday Stevenson and JJ Taylor active? Are we ever going to see reminder Stevenson and JJ Taylor active? I don't really care so much about this, but a lot of people ask me this question. When I do the mail bags and stuff like that of are we ever going to see all four running backs active for one game? I don't know if it really means anything one way or another. If we do or don't, but yeah, I just don't think. So I think the real question we got to ask ourselves week to week is it a GHA Taylor week? Or is there a romantic Stevenson week? Right. I think it's Stevenson again. You know, I think part of the reason he was active last week, you talked about how much they wanted to chip and how much they ended up chipping Joey posa. Stevenson's just better at that. So again, with this good pass rush, you know, and they're so big up front like you mentioned with Derek Brown. To me, this is this is a remonstrance Stevens and week. It is. And if you look at this just talking about this Panthers offense, it's interesting because when PJ walker in there, it feels a little bit different because he can move around so well. So maybe he can mitigate some of the pressure that gets given up by the offensive line. But this is not a good Carolina offensive line. And you look at some of these matchups that the Patriots are going to have judon on the left tackle came Irving. Taylor Morton's a really good player at right tackle. He's one of the better ride tackles in the NFL..

"To beat you. So that's why again, like, just give me Sam darnold because he's not going to be able to do it. He's not going to be able to maximize on those weapons right now. PJ walker might. I don't know for sure that he's going to, but he might. Darnold with a bad shoulder, no shot. You run all over darnold with the bad shoulder. What can I get you? He's just, you know, he's just explosive enough. That he might catch it. So the good news, I think for many reasons, first of all, we're talking about PJ walker a lot. And I think he's a talented player as well. But he's only started one game in the NFL. This will be his second career start and the first one they won the football game. They beat New Orleans last year with PJ walker as the quarterback. But I think it was New Orleans. But that was his only star in the NFL. He's going up against Bill Belichick, right? And the way to beat him is obviously to contain him in the pocket and force him to be a pocket passer and beat you with a traditional drop back passing game. And if they can get into that, some of the zone stuff that they've done over the last couple of weeks, I think is probably going to be what they continue to do moving forward because not only does it fit their personnel the best from what they have because they're not, look, you look at this Panthers offense. And you're just talking about more and Robbie Anderson, even with JC Jackson, I don't feel great about playing man to man coverage against that team, right? Those are two really good guys to cover. And it's gonna be tough to cover in both. And then you also assuming it is walker, you get into the problem of turning your back to the quarterback, right? And now all of a sudden, you have to play, if you're going to play man against a guy like PJ walker, then you have to have a spy. And if you have a spy that's obviously pulling another guy out of coverage. So this is how this is why in the past the Patriots have gone to more zone looks against these mobile quarterbacks. But now it feels like they have a nice rhythm with playing more zone from last week and from the last couple of weeks that they've played a little bit more zone dating back to that Dallas game. Dallas jets, even last week against the Chargers, a ton more zone. So they have a little bit better feel for that zone. And I think that that's going to be something that we're going to see a ton of regardless of who is under center. But especially if it's PJ walker, they're not going to want everybody's worried about their man for a yard down the field. And then they have a spy, one guy spying PJ in the middle of the field, right? I mean, that's going to be a long day for them as well, because he's going to run right by that, dude, right? He could have any trouble with that. So I think this is a big zone week once again. As someone mentioned in the chat, it is not a foregone conclusion that JC Jackson is going to miss this game. He's been out in the last two days with an illness, but the Patriots have been a little bit different in this regard this year in terms of guys not practicing and then playing in the games..

"So if they can put some of those plays and install some of those plays in this week into the game plan and into that opening script, that might give the patrons some problems early, then maybe you get a touchdown drive out of that early. And then if you can play playground football a couple of times, that's how you get the Patriots into trouble in this game. And by the way, somebody asks if walker's so good and we're talking him up a lot. Like if walker's so good, why is Sam darnold at starter? That's a good question. Yeah. There was a smarter because he was a former first round pick and they traded a bunch to get them. But there were conversations at the end of the preseason that he didn't let me wasn't a walk. I think by the end of the preseason it wasn't a locked Arnold who was gonna start. Like you said, I think they paid that price for him and they had to stardom. But if you go back and you look at what they didn't camp and what they did in the preseason, walker did just as much to win that job as darnold did. You know, I don't know that he's a franchise quarterback because, you know, he's not super accurate from the pocket, but he's, you know he's a solid bridge guy. If you needed a bridge quarterback, if you need a guy to start for a year or you know, you lost your quarterback early in the season. You have a good roster. You still want to try to be competitive. PJ walker is a real NFL quarterback. He is. And darnold might be at least a starting quarterback. I think he can be. Sam darnold might be on his way out of that conversation. PJ walker can play. Yeah, so it's going to be a nearly interesting week of defending PJ walker and I look at some of the game plans that the Patriots have had in the past. Again, some of these mobile quarterbacks and it seemed like when they played Kyler and they played Lamar last year that Bill Belichick finally found a formula that worked against those types of guys where he put Kyle duggar and Adrian Phillips out on the edges as overhang players to kind of force the run back inside and force the quarter back back inside, plus you get put those guys out there instead of some of the bigger linebackers at the Patriots have and those guys are obviously more athletic to bring those guys down and contain a guy like PJ walker. So if the question is, I guess, is how much do the Patriots? How much do the patrons actually fear a guy like PJ walker and do they have, do they feel like they need to go full game plan mode against him like they did last year with Lamar and with Kyler, 'cause if they come out with that sort of same formation where they had to overhang and it was duggar on one side.

"That Panthers defense, but also is he in the offensive meetings? Is he going over things with Sam darnold and PJ walker? Hey, this is what they're going to do defensively. Like, this is just a really smart football player. And clearly, who's a great teacher, is his biggest impact being made during the week. Is his impact something where, you know, he might not be on the field and we're still going to feel it because what kind of, you know, how is he helping the coaching staff and the players prepare for this game? I look at him as almost another coach in this game. Yeah, so I think the big thing that I saw when I was watching them this week was I can totally, after watching their tape, I can totally a 100% understand why they were even interested in bringing in another corner, especially a guy out of calibers, Stefan Gilmore. Doctor Jackson's a good player. He's somebody that's been pretty solid for them and he's a team captain now. And he's a pretty good player, but their cornerback that behind that is really, really suspect. And they were having a lot of trouble covering number two number three receivers. The number one guy was giving them problems because Jackson was not Miller playing sides and stuff like that. But he's a guy that I think can go ahead and lock people down when they absolutely need it to. But they were relying a lot on Keith Taylor AJ bouille, rashon Melvin, you know, just guys that were getting picked on. And I watched a lot of their games. I didn't watch them much of that Atlanta offense last week because they lost Calvin Ridley an hour before and actives were announced and that he was in the game plan and they were clearly not prepared to not have Calvin Ridley in that game. But teams like the Giants, Dallas, who had some success against this Panthers defense, attacking a lot of that depth in the secondary with quick in breaking routes to mitigate the pass rush, slants, digs, angle routes, unders, you know, things over the middle of the field quickly against outside leverage defenders. They had a lot of trouble covering and this is a team that I think is not as good in the backend as they are in the front end..

"So there's a stat that actually backs that up and that is the Panthers again screen passes this year. Get this against screen passes, the Panthers defense is giving up 3.7 yards per attempt. And if there is any somebody tell Josh McDaniels. Right. If there's any scheme that screams speed on defense, it's got to be a screen, right? Because it's a play that the D line gets sucked in. The second and third levels have to storm to the football. There's gonna be some space because of the scheme and the way that it's designed and you have to close it down. The fact that they're giving up 3.7 yards per pass attempt on screens tells me that this defense can absolutely fly. So you have Reddick and burns on the edges, but I think as important as those two guys are the block. And I think that they're going to throw a lot at those two guys. They mention how much they chip Bosa and some of the availability that we had today with Brandon Bolden. And with Damien Harris, I'm assuming that Reddick and burns will see similar plans, right? Where they're chipping those guys a lot coming out of the backfield or the tight ends going into the route and they're chipping. But Derek Brown in the middle of the defense is also a problem. And he's somebody that when you start to think about the game plan where we've seen for 20 years here with Brady that you can mitigate edge pressure by stepping up in the pocket and having a quick release. You can get those guys to run by you consistently by doing those types of things. But in order for Mac Jones to set short in the pocket and not get himself into trouble by going on 7 step drops or long drops and things like that, he's gonna have to have room to step up in the pocket. And Derek Brown is a physical dude. He's big, he's strong. He's 320 pounds. One of the strongest in terms of just pure playing strength, defensive tackles in the NFL. He's somebody that in a lot of ways to me is kind of like the underrated under the radar matchup in this game because if the Patriots and Mac Jones are going to have any chance to step up in the pocket and get those guys to go around the edges and just fly Mac Jones, they're going to have to keep Brown at bay and not allow him to push the pocket..

"So I think you think it's very highly of Bill Belichick and I think you would look at a quarterback like Mac Jones and say he's a rookie, but if I'm getting open down the field, I don't think any receiver is going to look at what max has done so far this year and be concerned that he wouldn't be able to get him the football. Right? I think that magnificently be able to throw him the ball accurately and all that kind of stuff. Plus, when you look at Odell's skill set as somebody that can win it all three levels of the defense and win on some of the things that Mac Jones likes to throw, he's definitely one of those guys when he's at his best that can take a three step slam 80 yards to the house, right? That time Odell can do stuff like that. So it's not just he's not somebody that just needs to be throwing the ball down the field. He's someone that can win at the short and intermediate levels too. And then turn those into longer plays with yards after the catch. So he's a really interesting player and somebody that I think really changes the equation and sort of the schematics of the chessboard for the Patriots. If they can get a player of that caliber into this offense, I think everybody on the pecking order fits a lot better than what they did before that. Different from a guy like D Jackson and no offense to Jeep Jackson, I think is a good player too. But he doesn't completely change the deck, right? Odell comes in here and it feels like he would completely change the deck. Yeah, yeah, no, I mean it's too different conversations. It's not one or the other. It's do you want? To add a little bit of speed for the rest of the year or do you want to completely change the way your offense works? Right. Right. All right, let's get into this game preview and talk about the Panthers. This game has some low key juice. There's a very, very, very good defense down in Carolina brewing right now. Phil snow, their defensive coordinator has been with Matt rule for years. He was with Matt rule at Baylor with Matt rule at temple. And now he's with Matt role with the Panthers. And he is somebody that Belichick talked about on Wednesday as a multiple defensive coach, meaning they are going to throw a ton of different fronts in personnel packages at the Patriots. They have four or 5 different packages that they run and they cycle through from they play even fronts. They play odd fronts, they play four down dime, they play four two 5 nickel, big nickel. They play so many different packages based off of the situation, the personnel for the offense, the game plan. So there's a lot to worry about here. There's a ton of talent in that front 7. There are some vulnerabilities. I would say in the secondary, but this is one of those games where if your Mac Jones and you're the Patriots offense, you can not sit there and hang around. This has to be get the ball out, make quick decisions. If you sit there and wait for Brian birds and Hassan Reddick to come get you, they absolutely will. Yeah, I mean, we've talked about how that, you know, this new offensive line group has really helped them reach another level offensively..

"And welcome into a patriots beat after dark edition. It is ten p.m. on the east coast right now. And for full disclosure, I have a wedding this weekend, so we had to tape this at an obscure time. But we are excited to talk patriots Panthers with you folks tonight. Pretty good night for Boston sports so far out to blow out wins for the bruins and the Celtics and the jets are down three touchdowns to the colts, although for playoffs eating, I'm not sure if that's a good thing for the Patriots maybe. We are lost as football fans. If Mike white's going to miss time, the legend Mike white, we all lost not getting to watch him. Yeah, Mike white is injured for the jets. Now two quarterbacks down Josh Johnson is in the game for New York, but we're going to talk about the Patriots here. We're going to talk about some news that we can say that rumors, whatever you want to call it, often on top of the show here. And I know that there's going to be a lot of people in the chat and in the comment section asking us about Desean Jackson Alex. He was released officially by the rams. He has cleared waivers. He is now a free agent set to sign free to sign with any team that he's so chooses. So first and foremost, I guess the main question is is do you like the idea of Desean Jackson coming here and being a New England patriot? And where do you fall on DJs? Yeah, I mean, I'm obviously I'm not getting my hopes up. I don't necessarily think they'll do it, you know, you say this to me all the time. They've had a million chances to quiet this guy and they've never done it. So he is kind of redundant to Nelson Aguilar. He's probably better, but I think they would see him as redundant. So, look, they did it, I'd be happy. I don't know where they get the money to do it. But he are actually no, because the rams are still on the hook for his contract, right? It's what he's. So his contract is now the Patriots are going to have to pay his entire salary if they do sign them. But the points he's already getting paid by the rams. So I would have to go look and see if he got any guaranteed money. I'm sure he did get some guaranteed money in that deal. So yeah, technically speaking he's already been paid for the season in a way. Yeah. I don't think it's going to happen as much as I want to see it as much as I'd be all for it. I think they have Nelson agglo in that role. I think they like him in that role right now and you know, they already have one receiver Nikhil Harry who they can't really get on the field and I just don't think they would see it as having a spot for him. I think it's definitely the redundancy thing with Nelson Aguilar because Desean Jackson's not a Truex, right? If somebody came available of D Jack's caliber, that was a true receiver on the outside. I'd be really interested in that kind of move. But to me, he is a Z or he's a player that's going to play condense to the formation more than he's going to play, truly out on the boundary and be a factor outside the numbers as a deep threat. So in that respect, it sounds a ton like his skill set sounds a ton like Nelson Aguilar skill set..

Yes <Speech_Male> that's right. Carried <Speech_Female> out by the internal <Speech_Female> enemy so <Speech_Female> that means was <Speech_Female> particularly when these conspiracy <Speech_Male> <Speech_Female> things get out <Speech_Female> and because we know <Speech_Female> <Advertisement> there's several different tools. <Speech_Female> Today's <Speech_Female> effective <Speech_Male> tools happens <Speech_Male> to be <Speech_Male> through social media. <Speech_Male> You know <Speech_Female> data <Speech_Female> collecting the analytics <Speech_Female> and making sure <Speech_Female> that information <Speech_Female> gets out to that <Speech_Female> community. <Speech_Female> Derail that communicates <Speech_Female> all kinds <Speech_Male> of stuff. <Speech_Female> So <Speech_Male> you know <Speech_Female> <Advertisement> it's happening now <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> me now. <Speech_Male> This is just the fact that <Speech_Female> we have google on. Our phones <Speech_Female> is <SpeakerChange> being <Speech_Female> anyway <Speech_Male> listening <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> to <Speech_Female> blame <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> too late <Speech_Male> so <Speech_Male> <SpeakerChange> everywhere. <Speech_Male> It's this conversation <Speech_Female> head everywhere. <Speech_Female> We're just doing <Speech_Female> the platform that's <Speech_Female> entertainment <Speech_Female> platform like an <Speech_Male> act. This <Speech_Male> is entertainment <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> So and <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> to be ben to <Speech_Male> spark the other <Speech_Female> effective <Speech_Female> purpose thing. <Speech_Female> If this <Speech_Female> movie doesn't <Speech_Male> sparked conversations <Speech_Male> all around <Speech_Male> this <Speech_Female> the world <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> particularly here in the <Speech_Female> us <Speech_Female> where it where it matters <Speech_Female> in these <Speech_Female> sparkles conversations <Speech_Female> in the community <Speech_Female> of people talking <Speech_Female> really <Speech_Female> peeling back and i hope <Speech_Female> intelligently <Speech_Male> not emotionally <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> because it doesn't serve <Speech_Male> to look at these things mostly <Speech_Female> yes for entertainment <Speech_Female> purposes. <Speech_Female> It's wonderful <Speech_Female> as entertaining. Yes <Speech_Female> we we all have <Speech_Female> feel that our enemy <Speech_Female> is <Speech_Female> william o'neil <Speech_Female> but we have to look <Speech_Female> they gave us a broader <Speech_Male> vision <Speech_Male> of working <Speech_Male> for the empire <Speech_Male> where <Speech_Male> that's the one partial <Speech_Male> tragedy <Speech_Male> of. Why <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> i said. I'm glad <Speech_Male> it came out as planned <Speech_Male> on. Hbo <Silence> platform and <Speech_Male> it came <Speech_Male> out. But i think i would have liked <Speech_Male> to wider <SpeakerChange> platform <Speech_Male> maybe like net flicks <Speech_Male> right <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> to <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> our. <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> Hbo <Speech_Male> knowing <Speech_Male> what. It's not <Speech_Male> getting the same exposure <Speech_Male> right <SpeakerChange> as <Speech_Male> it would have gotten say <Speech_Female> on another platform. <Speech_Male> I felt the same way <Silence> about. The bankers <Speech_Male> <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> did <Speech_Female> not see it because <Speech_Female> it was so limited <Speech_Male> on <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> a apple. <Speech_Male> We'll see in that case. <Speech_Male> There was <Speech_Male> a i believe. <Speech_Male> No a purposeful <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> decision <Silence> made <Speech_Male> to <Speech_Male> use the lowest <Silence> level <Speech_Male> <Silence> and the <Speech_Male> network <Speech_Male> or <Silence> system <Speech_Male> that <Speech_Male> would be at <SpeakerChange> the lowest <Silence> level <Speech_Male> in terms <Speech_Male> of distribution <Silence> <Advertisement> and viewing. <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> They didn't <Speech_Male> want on a net <Speech_Male> licks. They didn't <Speech_Male> want it yvonne. Hbo <Silence> <Speech_Male> right so <Speech_Male> they went with with <Speech_Male> something. That was a couple <Speech_Male> more steps <Speech_Male> down <SpeakerChange> and <Speech_Male> then they killed it <Speech_Male> and then a killed <Speech_Male> which is really messed <Speech_Female> up. That <Speech_Female> was valuable. <Speech_Female> I think <Speech_Female> everyone needs <Speech_Male> to see the bankers <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> wall it once. <Speech_Male> Again it showcase <Speech_Male> some <Speech_Music_Male> <Advertisement> of our top talent <Speech_Music_Male> <Advertisement> <Speech_Music_Male> <Advertisement> telling <Music> the top <Music> <Music> <Speech_Music_Male> they <Speech_Music_Male> said well you <Speech_Music_Male> know <Speech_Music_Male> well. "It's important to not be judgmental ever right than than then you sort of. It's just not appropriate. You're you're digging in presenting like you see you. Did you do have an opinion. But like homer was bad. He was just as racist. No that wouldn't work. He for he was a man of his time and he may have thought he was sympathetic. Who knows what he did. However people that bought its were were rich northerners that were in manufacturing and we're definitely dependent on seven labor force. Yeah i think. I think that that's the problem that we have in this country today with looking at at the past them whether it's artists the founding fathers In that's a lot in and we as african americans have an issue with this but but they were people in their time doing what they had to do in order to keep the economy going and keeping in. They thought they would. That was right now. We certainly detested. And i certainly don't want to be seen as an apologist for for that type of thinking because you know if i'm there i'm rebelling running away and from slavery and all that kind of stuff too you know because certainly as we look back we know it was wrong. Then we know what's in you know what's wrong today So what were you trying to accomplish with with the panther book Trying to get what was your. What was your theme in. Thesis writing the book We'll have started. Actually the a poster opinion have sent you a photograph original photograph. They founded in stanford library collection that they took the became the poster and i started with that. What did they look like. Why did they choose that that that the wider leather jacket. What is what is their foundational principles. The ten point platform and the more. I worked demoralized. While i need to do also this another surprise although it wasn't because i actually did go to school in oakland berkeley wave back is the The collaboration between the black panthers and events in the black community with students and antiwar activists in berkeley really very tight. And i i think come that my chapter. There's a chapter on for major figures. He knew that. I look at the poster and his background and his influence eldridge cleaver chapter is about him working with the peace and freedom party. How i call it his visual acumen. How how influential. His use of pictures were and then a chapter enemy douglas. Who is the black panther artist. And then last night a chapter on picturing the female revolutionary that that mostly look at look at angela davis and kathleen cleaver and that's where my research was formidably. The the the angela davis chapter was last. It was slightly out of the chronology. Why that happened. But in studying imrie douglas people would read and he would be referred to a emory douglas of the black arts. Move in this phrase kept coming up of over. Hadn't really thought a lot about it. So i realized i better find out what the black arts movement is so the the first four chapters deal with the black arts. How it how. It happened Back to new york. It's all about art.

"So it's it's it's sort of a collaborative process of my own research. And the collaboration of having this wonderful continuous audience of young people up to try the material out. So it's what you've always been interested in art or you are you artists. Can you paint. Since little and i did have a good career exhibiting still actually have work in a gallery in los angeles. And i i am now a professor emeritus at for the last year. And i've gone back to doing the joe large and i find that i sent you a couple of pictures just you know. I know probably won't talk about them but it's it's been really interesting how the research work Particularly relative to the black power movement is now informing the artwork so kind of gone back to visual art becoming artist again new medium and yet i take with me all of those years of research and things i thought about is. I was working through Sending a book on on the black arts of very good. We can certainly talk about your paintings. does your. That's your work right. I mean i noticed that A few of them. And i'm going to put them up on my facebook page so people can get idea what we're talking about here The does your work correct. I know that in images you can't tell it through native. They're really not paintings. They're supposed to read like like a picture like composition but there some fabric so they're kind kinda like quilts. That's got to be very time. Consuming to put those swatted. This last march. Okay when we went into lockdown. So i wanted something that was time intensive because i had lots of nine. I really wasn't ready. I don't know if i ever want to write another book. It takes forever and it evolved from from the conditions and the themes of the word jewish things. That have happened this past year which i like the medium which you think of something. Kind of charming decorative and put it on your band but unlike the idea that you have that comforting medium and then say something a little more profound a little more significant so actually. I've been looking through the screen over my right shoulder is a is a a work called a memorial for briana taylor and you could probably see but you do a slide and so it's a tribute to her but she the figures are supposed to be reassuring in way the Mostly off female under supposed to have this feeling of reassurance to them so it's kind of a it's kind of it's not a portrait per se. It's a it's a comforting figure. That's of big. It doesn't exactly come together significantly but it is. It's a figure in a gesture of hands up. Don't shoot a reference to the pan. African flag connection is young women dressed in cutoffs of a flight of gird of roads overhead. She had a tattoo shoulder that had this flight of birds and a statement. Sometimes you gotta fall before you can fly. And it's really touched by her. Her story her. Her life is far and i have a daughter so i think she especially resonated with me so i wanted to kind of tribute. That was helpful. And maybe comforting as it is now is that that's something you just finished and is that going to. You're going to try to get that into two to museums or art galleries or or not i. I was hesitant to start showing work. Until i had a real solid body of work in a sense of where i was going and so i still i. I have shown that peace and another one. That some immoral this when you'll see on a on a slide of a similar young woman with her hand in a black power gesture who's a flag in it.

Let's let's roll off of that. Who's your least favorite running? Just based on this podcast or in general do both yeah great. Yeah I'm GonNa this is GonNa be linked on the podcast start next. I'm going to do an episode on this right all right. Well we've kept you long enough away from your family. We appreciate you doing this. Bob Thanks for joining us. This has been great. The hope the game talk is what the game talk is as good as the prelude. Oh it usually is. Yes I appreciate that. Yeah we don't really talk about the game but I think we'll have have you back the next time we talk about the panthers because that will be in two thousand and three in the Super Bowl so all right love it and this time will actually have you on the whole game because that one is actually probably when you'll want to watch indeed cool all right. Thanks a lot Bob. Thanks BOB SCARY ON TALK. Teaser. Little who really? I guess her back. I don't know how to transition out of that. I don't remember how he ended itself. Thanks bobby it's week seventeen. United transitions down here. The cheese I do whenever a interviews. Because they haven't done before see good point so I guess now that Bobby is told us how much the two thousand one Carolina Panthers have sucked. We should probably start there. Don't you think I was? I was personally surprised at how little I knew about the panthers for one and also that this was kind of their lowest below moments in history and then like when Bobby said because I watch a game we did the interview and when Bobby said that there was only like what sixteen thousand people this game. Oh yeah seemed like less. Yeah I say I don't even think it was half that and of those they're saying like sixty percent were patriots fans will say that you said team and they put actually played pretty hard for one fourteen team. I thought it was like you know you see score which aren't forget what it was but as a shit load to nothing and you're like wow. This rolled over right away but it really wasn't like that. Yeah I thought that the first half I thought they competed definitely did so. The the was hot garbage. They were pro. Football reference. Says it's steady. Tenants was seventy one thousand. I was going to bring that up no way because I looked up to to get an actual number seventy one thousand nine hundred and seven maybe as a typo supposed to be one seven one. I mean maybe they sold them. He takes us but there is like they were. It was empty. You look at the lower bowl and you'd see some people say the top of the lower bowl like what are you doing? Move Down like so. It reminded me of the few games. MLS Games..
