"Of classic TV shows were no doubt said to hear of the passing of leave it to beaver actor Tony Dow this week. Joining us to remember is TV guides man rauch. Good morning Matt. Good morning. Yeah. I think a lot of people generations, I think, were weaned on, leave it to beaver over the many decades and syndication is still out there and the nostalgia channel me TV is going to celebrate him tomorrow afternoon, starting at noon for a 5 hour marathon of his most memorable episodes. Episode titles include things like Wally's job, Wally's weekend job Wally's car while his new suit. I mean, you get the idea that the stakes were pretty low on leave it to beaver, but at the same time, that's what we loved about at the general humor, that idealized depiction of a sitcom family in the middle country, everything was just so benign. And as the older brother went, I mean, he was a really nice and sweet and earnest older brother. He kind of thought beaver was a creep sometimes, but yet those moments when they were together in their bedroom just talking about things where beaver could open up in a way he probably couldn't to his dad ward. There's something really sweet about that depiction and it has endured over the many decades. They revived it there for a while as you saw beaver and Wally as parents themselves. But what people really remember is they leave it to beaver series. And so yes, I think when his death was announced this week twice as it turned out, but when people come to grips with leave it to beaver and the legacy that it had. It's a pretty significant one for such a quiet little show. Yes, TV from our youth. You say another show or a show from the past is making a comeback. Yeah, different kind of youth here. We're talking about beavis and butthead icons of the 1990s, probably says stupidest buddy act ever done. But they're back, again, not on MTV this time, but on paramount plus on streaming because that's the way the industry works these days. But a little bit twist here is that even though you see some of the episodes where there's still those giggling adolescence in high school, he'll never grow up. Well, there's also many episodes miniature episodes where you see them as grown-ups, but they're just the biggest doofuses as they ever were. So I guess then there's a comfort to be known that some things never change and that against them would apply to something as silly as beavis and butthead, but it is back. Okay, thank you very much, Matt. You bet. TV guides, Matt rauch. It's 1113. An orthopedic surgeon makes understanding pain, painless. It's the biggest frustration that patients have. We learned Wednesday, the U.S. has reportedly requested talks with Russia on a proposal that could mean the release of the two detained Americans, but a dialog has yet to begin White House press secretary karine Jean Pierre was asked about that proposal today. We did put a substantial offer on the table. "A 37 year old woman began firing a gun inside Dallas love airport this morning. Police say she fired several gunshots apparently if the ceiling before an officer shot and wounded her. She has been taken to a local hospital and no one else was injured. Joining us live now to learn more about this WTO's national security correspondent JJ green. JJ, what more do we know about the shooting? Well, she walked into Dallas love field airport about ten 40 local time went to the restroom, reportedly changed clothes, came back out, produced a gun and started shooting. The police in Dallas, teeth, Eddie Garcia said she most likely fired him up into the air at the ceiling. But what goes up must come down in those bullets had to go somewhere so people started scrambling for cover. At that point, police in the airport engaged her shot her in the lower extremities. She was taken to a hospital. The FAA put in a ground stop for a short time. That ground stop has now been lifted the airport is returned to normal activity. And the investigation is underway into what she was thinking and doing. JJ were also familiar with those long security lines at the airport, but that's when you're trying to get into your gate. There's really nothing that stops people from bringing guns into the main halls. That's right. It depends on where you are, walking into an airport with a gun trying to send it through and your carry on is illegal anywhere. But the question you're asking is what's to prevent a person from walking into any airport and doing something like what happened in Dallas and there isn't much quite frankly. The shooting took place before she went through the checkpoint at Southwest Airlines. And if you think about it, you get dropped off at the airport. You can walk in off the street with a weapon. Most airports have law enforcement officers rolling around, but they can't see what's out and what's not out in the open. So honestly, there isn't much to prevent someone from doing what this woman did in Dallas today. Does TSA have any kind of security program focused on this kind of threat? They do. They have something called the visible intermodal prevention and response team. It's called a viper team. And this has been in place for wildman pretty successful. They provide a random, unannounced high visibility surge of essentially protection into any transit agency. It can happen at a train station or an airport. And this team is composed of federal air Marshals, surface transportation, security inspectors, TSA, officers, behavior detection officers, and these are people who kind of monitor people's behavior to look for suspicious things in people. They also have canine teams as well, but the whole objective of this team is to kind of prevent people from walking and doing something crazy. To put it honestly to put it bluntly. But again, you don't know what you don't see with people walking in the airports with clothes and things hidden. So it's a tricky situation, but something they're definitely working to try to deal with. All righty, thanks so much, JJ. Welcome. A new study finds millennials sticking close to home. "The vaccine. It's more like the vaccines that we're used to. The hepatitis vaccine, the HPV vaccine, where in this case they take the gene encoding the spike protein and they put it into insect cells into moth cells in the mosque, make the spike protein. It's purified and that part of the virus is injected and we make an immune response to it. Remember the Pfizer and the Moderna, we actually inject the RNA into the human. So ourselves, and then we make this spike protein ourselves. So we become the factory for the proteins. In this case, it's the moths, and then that protein is given. So both of them yield and potent immune responses against the original Wuhan spike protein and it gives serious protection against serious illness and hospitalization. So from that side, it's encouraging. Will it serve folks who maybe can't tolerate the other vaccines for whatever reason? I think in general it's going to be the people who are reticent to get an RNA vaccine. People who said, hey, listen, this is the first ones approved. I don't want to be part of that. So this is more conventional. And there are people out there that said, hey, I'm going to take this when there's a protein based vaccine and this is that. There are very few people who have had reactions to the RNA vaccine so they can't get any more, but in those individuals, they are also candidates for this vaccine. So I hope we can get more people vaccinated and then boosted because it's certainly critical to fight the new variants. Yes, speaking of those new variants and sub variants that may be resistant to current vaccines with novavax so late to the party, can we still expect good protection from it? It's the same as the RNA vaccines in that it's the original Wuhan spike protein. So it'll be similar in that regard. And what they do is they have a foundation immune response that protects us from serious illness. They don't protect from spreading and they don't from tech from getting ill from the current variants. But they do protect from serious illness. So they're clearly as benefit. We all need them so we stay out of the hospital, but at the same time, we need new and better vaccines. The first of which will come in the beginning of October. The CDC still has to sign off before those 18 and older can start getting it novavax has already been approved for use in Europe. I had the Nats snapped their 9 game losing skid. It is one 13. "And it's changed, your feelings about retiring, well, listen up. We break it down now with CBS business analyst Jill schlesinger. I think a lot of people who left the workforce amid COVID. And I'm talking about folks who are over 55, I think they got really spooked because it was scary times and all the evidence was that older Americans were more at risk, so a lot of people removed themselves from the labor force, and they certainly counted on stimulus checks and extended unemployment benefits. Those things started to wear off. And to some extent, a lot of the people who were tired were like, oh, this is actually okay because the markets were doing so well. And then the markets fall apart, and then the inflation takes off. And now we are starting to see early evidence. It's not a trend yet, of some people feeling like, you know what? Maybe I called it quits a little too early. Many of those people heading back into the labor force to try to make up for the fact that both inflation and diving markets have taken a real bite out of their future retirement plans. What are they finding now that they're trying to get back in? Well, good news. I mean, this is the weirdest thing, which is we know the fed is trying to slow down the economy. And yet the labor force remains pretty strong. And yes, you probably heard some reports about some high-tech companies that said, okay, we're going to slow down our hiring or we're going to let some people go. But the vast majority of folks in the sort of broader economy, they're still looking for employees. So this is a fantastic time actually to say, hey, wait a second. Do I need a little extra money every single month? Maybe this is a time to start doing some part time work. I'm not saying you have to go back and do exactly what you were doing before, but while the opportunity exists and while prices are still high and before the economy softens too much, now could be a very good time to get a few bucks coming in that will help offset some of these price increases. "The wharf in D.C., it's four 40. As the challenges confronting President Biden intensify, his predictions of a rosy political future for the Democratic Party are actually growing bolder. He believes Democrats are going to hold on to the House after November's midterm elections and will pick up as many as four seats in the Senate. Ken Walsh, White House and political analyst for U.S. news and World Report, joined us earlier to talk about it. All the signs point to a very difficult midterm election for the Democrats could we actually disastrous for them. History indicates that this is happening polling indicates it's happening. It's very likely that Democrats are going to lose control of the House and probably the Senate. But President Biden has said as he just said in an interview with The Associated Press this past week, he feels part of his job is to be confident and that's what he's trying to project. It really flies in the face of what seemed to be increasing reality here, but this is what he feels like he has to do. And the polling isn't about the 40% job approval rate fluctuates around. It's not awful, but it's very mediocre. And it's a real danger sign on how things will work out for the Democrats in the midterms. As we watch the January 6th hearings unfold, what impact if any are they having on all this right now? That's a very good question. I think what's happening with that is that before president Trump is getting a tremendous amount of negative attention for this for encouraging the insurrection and for saying that he really should not be held responsible for this sort of thing. And so solidifying the impression people have that something went very wrong on that day, despite what former president Trump says that this was just a relatively minor incident. But I don't think it's changing the fundamental dynamic of our presidential politics. President Trump's supporters still support him very strongly. He has about 80%, 90% of the Republican Party behind him. That's not changing. So it's really solidifying the status quo. Democrats dislike him intensely. Republicans like him a lot. The people in the middle don't really have a lot of qualms about him, but they also have a lot of qualms about President Biden. So it's not changing things much, but it's solidifying the status quo. Yeah, we're just sort of waiting for that bombshell to come out and there have been many interesting things that have come out and some that might qualify as very significant, but that big headline that we've been waiting for hasn't really come. That's right, exactly. And to people who follow this closely, there's a lot of really devastating information that's come out about former president Trump and how he handled this riot basically at the capitol and how he tried to turn the election around even though he lost. Really skating around the edges of impropriety or certainly impropriety, maybe even illegality. But as you say, not the smoking gun and it doesn't feel like there will be one.
