"All right so there you go detective. They fit in this thing. I mean I've often thought to do an episode about this but They fit in this idea of a band who Who could they be? The next led Zeppelin. I mean bad company kind of fits in that as well although they have their creative direction in one direction which is more like the The simple blues and folk version of of led Zeppelin. Detective is almost like it's it's interesting. They're almost like so. This is off of their second album. They only made two two albums This is It it it takes one to know one says it. Yeah that's how we call it. Takes one to know one. The first one was a self title they also have one of these Non Non official Semipro live albums as well But the only made two records leader. The Band is Michael Barr So here they are on Swan. Song records Michael's old band. Silver head was on purple records. So that's kind of interesting but but yeah very interesting sound here you know. I was never a huge fan of this band. It's funny I always put them in the same camp as Lone Star. You know Welshman German Paul Chapman who who future of UFO. They only made two albums they are on. CBS widowmaker They only made two albums. And that's it's you know Ariel Bender again the Martha hoople connection And and mart the Ian Hunter Lescot. Who did Do what is it. Call Dr on and Shouting and pointing pointing shouting something like that so they only made two records this band so so all four of those bands kind of have this confused semi heavy semi trying to be complicated a little Prague a little a little bluesy they you know. They threw a lot into the pot and everybody was essentially confused. So that's widowmaker don't maker Motte Lone Star and these guys detective so But what you hear on. This is Is they definitely had this big big kind of John Bonham sound their drummer was John. Hyde kind of an unknown. Tony Kaye was in the band of Yes fame he sees Michael Barr of course from silver head. He went on to to be a solo artist. And I I I believe a big big actor in the UK so he was like a TV Guy But it's funny one thing. I love about this detective band is is that they have. This pre led Zeppelin sound almost in a way Well okay so so. It's a sound that I think comes into led Zeppelin around the presence album. It's much more prevalent on in through the outdoor. But it's also very very prevalent on Jimmy Page outrider and the two firm albums so it's this kind of coagulated. Fiqh sound this production quality. Certainly coming out of the drums like like you heard in this song. I mean it's very John Bonham on a mask drums out of this band so this was a band that that essentially kind of fizzled. They didn't go anywhere. But you know I also wanted to put them in here because they kind of prove a point that You Know Swan Song was doing a pretty good job with advertising all this stuff. I used to see ads for all these banned all the all the time I mean they were being promoted at these spans. So so yeah. That was detective. The first album cover was just like this black and white detective logo on it and then and then this one had had a picture of the band you know. Michael Barr didn't quite look the party at the short hair. He's kind of had had graham bond thing going later that you saw with rainbow and Michael Schenker but but yeah interesting and I do have a quote from him on here I asked him to compare Purple Records and Swan Song. I think he was back in two thousand fourteen. So Michael Barr says well. They had their pluses and minuses there obviously vanity projects therefore in those days. What a huge mega ban like purple and led Zeppelin Zepplin? Of course is more my taste taste in a sense but you know the wonderful thing about being on Swan Song was That was under the offices of the Great Rock and roll the greatest rock and roll band in the world at the time and indeed arguably the at anytime so therefore the The connection was spectacular by proxy At the same time Bonzo wasn't particularly interested in marketing and promotions. Yes you're part of a conglomerate that perhaps not taking too much notice of the vanity signings superstar bands make. I think if you talked to anybody who's been on a vanity label able they would argue that Being connected with a big band doesn't make you a big band in those days you had to have promotion marketing. Of course it's blissfully different. You can do it all yourself south which is so much enjoy. Let's see what else he say. Silver head X. Pamela Wife Pamela durbar famous Jimmy let's see various. His Cessnas had its pros and cons. What else does he say here? But we went with Zeppelin because of energy of the VIBE. You know one things. Thanks very important you need to understand. We were so stoned any decisions that were made or any sense. Oh Oh gosh. Nobody's paying attention to us. Never occurred to us because we were living in Los Angeles loyalist. We waited a year for Jimmy to produce the album. We'd been given a million dollars. It's a dangerous thing to give young men a million dollars in the city of angels. So we weren't thinking about marketing the promotion. Either we're just making music and having fun on Russia's back those things apply but at the time was fantastic. I mean every band let's see but but Blah underrate that that's about all he has to say about that so so that's detective. I'm moving on. So let's see we've done three. Yeah this is number four This is This is Dave edmunds from his tracks. On wax four album September. Eight thousand nine hundred seventy eight. This is trouble boys. Take a listen I take.

Michael Barr Jimmy Page John Bonham Lone Star Motte Lone Star Michael Welshman German Paul Chapman Dave edmunds Ariel Bender CBS Michael Schenker UK official Ian Hunter Lescot Tony Kaye Prague Los Angeles Russia Bonzo Pamela durbar

I did decide that they actually walked into a restaurant. While he's there is my mother at the mall and they're they came walking in. Yeah how'd you know it was them or you could help. Always nobody looks like that in San Mateo. Okay so and and now he's Tom Donahue's group by the way what do you mean. That was his group. He Made Bobo Group assignment of you know nothing about Tom. Donahue Oh my God you. The people who need to know about Tom Tom Donohue he was a big very heavy set. Dude but There was. He's a began to look it up. FM radio he's one okay so you were lucky to have to be able to hear that. That young yes. I was when he started running on those long albums. But I wanted to go back to uh-huh Brummel so when you saw them walking the mall having lunch with your mom what did you see my mom. I was did inch. Did you say okay mom. I'M GONNA go meet those guys no. I don't I don't know if I met them but I did. They came back doc and got in trouble for being because I was underage for being at their gig. I remember They played Sarah Jail. And how'd you meet them. I just followed John Around. He was drummer. John Peterson. A photo lost it. You followed him around and the and then I got in trouble for being you know under Asian Asian conform around anymore. Okay and what happened next. I mean I've followed the stones is a Sacramento with my high school girlfriends. I'm as fifteen. That is a one. Were we were in Sacramento Keith. Got Electrocuted we. Oh no shoot patty in the bell bluebells. That had I sold my heart to the junk man out over the rainbow. I Love I sold my heart to the junk man because I really did so. We went to the stones concert and then suddenly Keith gets elected you did and goes like five feet off the ground and Dan you witness that they shut the curtains so I said let's go so we all jammed out of there and got in the car and the car came out of the garage garage. I believe and We follow that car which had the stones in it all the stones down the freeway everyday then. They stopped at a gas station and change into another car. And we follow that car. And I can't do a little bungalow. Oh Hotel and motel and We got out and we pass where Mick wise and you could hear him kind of like pacing and really upset about of course keys was in the hands of the ambulance police. That's what they did might have. You know. There's a threat to them. Yeah so then we. We went to this other room which happened to be Brian. Jones grow knocked on the doors open so we just walked in. I earth three was going to his suitcase looking to close at that time. I was really interested in insects that I was really ever interested as sex anyway but anyway yeah I know I know that about you for a few ties. It three times a happened but that was good anyway so he was. You're going to a suitcases. Your cases and Charlie watches in there because he had lost his key or didn't have a key to get his his apartment. We sat there and just watch them and Brian Jones is one of my favorite in the world. Was He. Okay at that point were you offend fanatic of his like he became later or did that hell is being. Yeah they're Kinda you know too seriously. Want her it. Wasn't it in as off that I would have been probably a little later. Okay in other words it I just was cool. It was just kind of cool so then we got an eating asses leave. I don't think but we laughed APPS and that was one of my first encounters. Yeah well so you hung out with Brian and Charlie at age fifteen yes. That's pretty amazing. This has got to be all this stuff happened. I remember when I first tried to meet the stones. I was sixteen so it was the second time they came to America. I believe and went with Victor to the Ambassador Hotel and And I was trying to meet make of course but but Captain D. Fart. You know. Victor's cousin took us to meet Bill. And Charlie so we hung out with bill and Charlie and we're listening to I was listening to blues for the very the first time I'd never heard it and I was like wow okay and I was nodding my head looking around see okay. Everyone's nodding their heads. And I thought I'd better not my head. We were just kids because I never really realized that captain be part was I would've been right there anyway. We I tried to meet Mick and all that long stories in the book but I also was very curious about Brian Jones because he was so beautiful but when I encountered honored him in passing he wasn't very nice so I just waited around. It just tried to see what they were doing. All these little bungalows and the ambassador and at one point some little teenage girls finally got up the nerve to knock on Brian's door and when he opened the door he was in his underwear and some cowboy Albouy boots heard this one and he was and he was holding a broom in his hand. No I I can still see this so vividly. You know some things you you never forget never told me this is very interesting and and he said if you girls don't leave me alone I'm going to drag you in in here and fuck you. He said that to these teenage girls in his underwear and cowboy boots holding a broom. Just want to get rid of so so so then later I said okay. This is interesting. So I went around the back and peaked in his window to see what he was doing in there and and he had two very scantily clad Hispanic girls in there with him by frolicking with him. He was having fun. Okay so yeah. He was pretty wild. I think. And use your favorite. You even wrote a diary. Your diaries called Mar marigold right. Yeah that did see him. Yes I also am I song. I have a paper to hand colored triangle which is a little. George did the music but it is actually about a fantasy trip between my my boyfriend. Bernardo and bride mayte. Yeah it was a triangle but it was a rose. It was an imaginary triangle is it was now Bernardo that three way anyway but Bernardo was a BTO. We used to call the boys together outrageously and we danced with them. Carlos Bernardo a kid read name Wednesday. Oh be who is now marlow and So did you. And Bernardo have sexual relations much later much later but you did Finally Yeah but he's he's not my boyfriend anymore. I don't know what I was in San Francisco. I don't know how that happened. Very strange term. BTO's had exclusive -clusive store well Bernardo was like Haight Ashbury of changed. I mean everybody loves an insanely beautiful is last name so Donya. There is an interesting guy. Carlos Lorenzo Who became actually? I went went into his mother's house and the they were after him to get in. They just missed him. The the people who draft people those people whatever and so he had run he had leave. He had to get the heck out of there so he goes to New York and ends up in the living theatre which toys a incredible via that was very underground and very famous. Remember that way and he goes to Paris so terrorist here's Salvador Dali Looking at him and I guess he said I want him. He was the most beautiful boy ever. I had sex with him do you you did it. That was the saying is always the same guy but anyway it was nice car Dan Eh sexist friends anyway I guess so incredible thing is that About him is that Dolly winning got him and he became woodall for the rest of his life. If you imagine wish Salvador Dali he was he was a model. He's in a lot of his things he he was also his assistant exactly getting his voyeur couples. He gets into the estate to yeah he was he will he wound up you know. After Dolly died he took care of that. Oh my God he was so different. Oh Oh my God. He was like show so together anyways he was and I saw him during that time he came to visit me probably in. I mean you told me early. Eighties or something. It was amazing to see him again. He was my favourite BTO. I loved them all. But Wow God I just loved carbon very little anyway. He's like in those photo. In those pictures of the Dalai drew male the male I think he resulting across that beautiful guy is him so then he wrote a book called sexist so alike Shakes Salvador Dali Seven Dalian Me Pretty Die and Bernardo's gone too but no no a sad story where Nardo had aids any actually was tied up by because there's a lot of crackers disarm I was addicted the crap he got back on crack and he got out..
