"Linked up at coast to coast am dot com. Robert, Let's get back into terminal lucidity if you'd explain that a little bit more for us. Well as I was saying before George the many people when they've had dementia or being very ill for a long time. And lighting up shortly before they die, Um, become able to recognize people, um, have a sudden burst of energy. And clarity, and this phenomenon is called Terminal lucidity. It's been recognized for years. Um there in some languages. There's there's a traditional word for it. Um, in Spanish. It's Lama Horia Lamberti. The enhancement brought about by dying or death. Um Well, what I'm doing. Research on at the moment is to find out whether this phenomenon is confined to humans or whether it has a biological basis. So the question is If you've had a dog or a cat or a horse or an animal, you've been close to And it's been very ill. Um Have you observed shortly before it died, something similar to terminal lucidity, the animal becoming more of a alert, aware, seemingly aware of the fact it's dying. For example, one story someone assembly recently is about a black Labrador dog. The dog was very sick they had reached the point could Barely move. Um they had reached the point where they felt they were going to have to have it. Take it to the vet for euthanasia. Um, And the day before they were planning to do that the dog was lying on its match. Uh, the family. We're having dinner at the table and the dog got up. Which was surprising in itself spontaneously getting up and walked around the table held out his poor to every member of the family, and they held its poor as if it was saying goodbye. To everyone went around the table, then went back to the match laid down and died. So it seemed to know it was dying. It seemed to know that it was time to say goodbye. And, um I had to report just only yesterday from someone in Britain who looks after horses and said that they had found that very sick, very old horses. They run a horse sanctuary. Um Um, somehow seem to know when they were going to die and sort of brightened up and connected with people as if they're saying goodbye. So what I'm asking listeners is this if you've had any experiences of this kind of Phenomenon with your animals Do please let me know because I'm compiling a database of these stories at the moment to see if common patterns emerge. And as far as I know, no one has ever done this research before. And I rather suspect that terminal is city is something that happens in animals as well as people, in other words, as deep biological roots, So if you do have a story you'd like to share with me. Please send it by email. You can do it through my website Children dot org or just send a direct email. The address is simple. Shall drink at Children dot org. Um, it would be very helpful for me and for my research assistant, Pam Smart who's worked with me for 25 years. If we have these stories confidential, we're not going to review your name or your story or change the name if you have to. Yes. Well, if people send a people don't want their name mentioned. Say that in your email. Um, if you're okay with your name being mentioned, Um, do mention that too, Because that would make our life easier. We certainly don't want to Break anyone's confidence against their will, Uh, purposes, not for any commercial reason or anything like that purely scientific research to find out if this is a widespread phenomenon. And what kind of patterns People have noticed in their animals and animals or people. Once they get out of this lucidity. When did they generally die? How long does it take? Well, usually quite soon. I mean, this lucidity is usually or day or two before they die. It's like it's as if they know they're going to die. They're going to a different framework, a different kind of state of physiological state. Um, and that includes often includes a kind of calmness, letting go and Designed to say goodbye as it were. When my own brother was dying, and I had this experience with him. And we had this very deep connection of, uh, I was on mistake A bill that we were saying goodbye. I mean, he knew I knew and it was very clear and it was very powerful. Um and I'm so glad it happened. It would have been terrible for him to go without the sense of saying goodbye. And so I think that this is something Very deep Seated doesn't happen to everybody or every animal, but I think it's something that's deep in our biological as well as our human nature. Do you think people generally those who don't die in an accident, But Those people who mentally decline or die. Do you think they're they know that their time is near. Well, that's what this terminal lucidity suggests that that does happen. No, they may not if they're in, say, intensive care in hospital and sort of heavily sedated and Um, you know, it may not be walmart or something. No, if they're in, you know, in extreme pain, or under heavy sedation with morphine or something. Um, but I think people dying in the more It's saying the hospice type situation or dying at home. Um then this does seem to be something that happens fairly often. I did no one's ever done the research to find out how common it is. Uh, is it most people is? It's a small minority. We don't know that yet, Um But the best place to do this research really would be in hospices where people are dying all the time, and there is a project here in Britain. Where working with nurses in hospices, too. To try and keep track of what's happening and find out more about this process. It's remarkable if there is a science behind this isn't there besides the spirituality? Yes, well, I mean, the science so far is just simply describing what happens. Um, no one's yet as far as they know, done any studies on the physiology, physiological or hormonal changes that might be involved. But one of the things that this does make clear is that For people who have Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia. Um, the idea that their memories have been destroyed by the disease, um, is refuted by terminal dissidents because they can remember things that They're apparently it has forgotten for years showing that it's not so much the memories that have been destroyed by the disease, but the ability to recall them and that ability to recall them seems to come back. In these amendments of terminal the city..

"Worry field fields so one of the LIMO drivers. I don't know who asked him like. Do you ever blake because the girls look like kids like I like. It was crazy how much they look like kids to me breath high school kids right. There'd be a couple of It looks like an older kid but they all kids but somebody asked the drive at one time. A driver a girl. I remember she was sixteen. He said but she did came on and they fought and she goes how much you make. I got it was like I don't know like five hundred bucks I she's I think he made two hundred took three hundred dollars office thing. Oh my God yeah like. That's a really advanced fucking thing to do. Stole Three Hundred Bucks and fought him? It's an interesting call because she turned herself into a prostitute. I don't know why you would make that. Although member to catch a Predator when they get like half those people seem like they would go to anybody who had written back. I got a theory about that too. About why guys are in the high school kids. I think there are some guys out there. That hit a point in their life. Like maybe like right after graduate where their life got really fucked up and it didn't sting song it got really fucked up. And he didn't go anywhere and they wanted to like Lee relive. Their childhood right went back to high school. Like maybe they have a lot of regrets. They got Cloudy Update. But it is that kind of thing whereas like you want your you stuck in a certain. Yeah yeah well. There's the thing with women too. That's why a lot of women wind up fucking high school boys right women that are teachers accounting ties. You heard that story. It's constant the funny thing is. They barely get arrested like most of the time. They don't do any time. I saw one recently this lady. She was fucking a sixteen year old boy and they just said don't do it anymore and they gave her like one year probation. Where was I forget? The cute kills probably Kansas or something like that. They like stop it. Just stop people. Will you call form strong? But if it was a guy that was fucking fifteen or happy. It's not a cousin. Go with the just happy. It's not a guy the guy they would want that got locked up in a cage for shore. It's interesting agree with it. It makes sense but it still. It's Kinda crazy I yeah I mean I. I guess to Sullen Ledgers. Blow their students. I mean it's just it's just the only ones you hear about are the ones where these pussies can't keep their mouth shut wall. I know some of their mom and go to the teachers and go to the cops on. You know what it depends. If you're a fucking kid or not like it is if if I was like sixteen high school I was a kid of a sixteen year old. You can be because we were religious so I had no really I mean so. Do you think that those are the guys that they try to Faulk? Do you think they go after? Like the young football player guys think. It's all kinds of different like if you're crazy. Girl who wants to relive childhood relive high school so you go John Stretch strikes your fancy and they probably never thought it would be like that. Maybe they think pure you know. Maybe they think like when I was in high school. That boy wouldn't give me time of day files in highschool with him but now I can fuck him. Because I'm thirty two and I'm the teacher. Do you think that thought through on one hundred percent. It's all planned out as journalists and journalists journalists. They got a map of how they wanted to go down. And all the friends are connected and one of those little circles with all the lines. Come out with different names. Who was the one that they made that movie about with Nicole Kidman was she gets? I mean there's a real story of someone which you know. The teacher got the kid to kill her husband. All right that was a that was Was that New Hampshire. Where was that? Yeah then there's a documentary about her. Where like a fucking crazy story was that was that Pam Smart? Yes Pamela. Yeah I remember that man. 'cause everybody had jokes about that when. I was in eighty eight when I was Just starting to stand up. It was right around then that had happened. When I was an open mic. Everybody had like Pam. Smart Jokes To die for the Dow. What are the real pam? Smart look like not that good. We'll keep in mind that's imprisoned. Let's not fair that's their. She's pretty cute with some fucked up. Revere hair look at her hair. Go back to that picture again. That year of hair was that because I remember that when the eighties for sure that Yup in the eighties. Yeah to die for was ninety five. Yeah you're not. It's hard to fuck with a nineteen ninety-five. Nicole Kidman Right. That's what year it was. Here's another version of it to Helen Hunt. Not as good. Oh Yeah it's fine. It's more accurate but I think like Kidman was supposed to be just a character based on her. But it's funny right because if you're doing an actual real life story you would re if you had a teacher that looked like Nicole Kidman. It will change the narrative. Like there's a weirdness not one hundred percents weirdness big Fat Lady Right. It's a big fat dog that I knew the guy that I knew. The teacher was hot and everybody was like when the kids improved. Yeah exactly what we say is like a loosely based on that movie loosely bench fired. So here's the problem with that. If like Salma Hayek like Hot Salma Hayek from dust darkness that one in a prime member when there's another foot thing with Tarantino weights feet when you hear it and then you look back. You're like wait a minute. Here's a twenty minute foot. Seen every fucking kill Bill. She's like now wiggle. Your toes camera hangs on for a while until that comb. She was so hot. If that's how my wanted to find out what what kind of of chance does he have a saying. No He's got zero Chamula studying with a logical creatures based on where she was your luck. Outta here man. She was so smoking instill is she still hot as fuck. You got a foot fetish. That foot thing as I do that. Yes exactly exact-. She's beautiful now. Imagine if she is the teacher and some fifteen year olds sixteen year old boy if the teacher. Let's say it's hurt? Let's say it looks like it could be like her cousin or something like that but really hot just as auditor say. Let's not be disrespectful. If someone equal scale of hotness to Salma Hayek fucks your sixteen year old boy like what chances he was saying no to that. How about zero sum zero beyond beyond consent? You know I think that's the entire idea of it being a kid the thing about it. Yeah but the thing about it is if he was eighteen. You'd be psyched for him just two more years if he just live twenty four months. Cook better. That's that's who somebody said to me. We be anti sites like if it is just like a year like. Why can't you wait a year? I think it's I think it's like arbitrary. They say look grown women WANNA fuck seventeen. Year olds. Don't have a year to wait. Those bitches are all crazy. They don't that's right. I don't have any time that's right. There's no time to wait card. Debt is fucking. Try to chase him down because they have a high school student. Help your credit card. You know what's really some of those women are married. Some of those weren't married Mary and the wind up fucking their students. I was never around that. I never experienced that as a kid where a teacher female teacher fucked. Any of my friends you know. I never had that it. If it's somebody in my school I remember how Female Gym Teacher. Knows mail and somebody else but makes sense just fight but wait just you know I could be wrong but I think the guy that knew the weight room. The school had a weight room. You know he'd go to school and the guy. I remember hearing some Shit like that about the guy that was like ran the weight room. He's one of the gym teachers. I remember he was very always very grabby and I didn't think it was. It was very Joe Biden like shoulder robes in. You know like God Harry Legs. He wanted to pressure leg. Haired Pres- leg downhill big deal just presses K. Down everybody likes to look kids playing with their leg hair. It's fun yeah. Don't totally normal to talk about too. If you're running for president do that fuck is that from the corn popping corn palm speech. Yeah the thing about Harry legs and something about going by the pool. Yes he was a lifeguard and fucking stared down the local gang leader corn pop. Zev what the story is. Yeah and he had a chain. And then they were against it a fighting they. They became friends and he was like. I'm sorry I called you. Esther Williams front with razor wielding gangster named these the rust. Their razors in a ransom. That's a real story. That's what the whole story of the same at the pool is just. I only heard the the legs and the pool part. "Greg and PAM got married on May seventh one thousand nine hundred eighty nine pam smart. What was decked-out like Princess Diana? I was only twenty one years old when I got married. I was very much in love with my husband. The couple moved back to New Hampshire Pamela. Got A job with the public school system and she became came the media liaison among about a dozen public schools. I had a very good job. I made a lot of money for myself but Pamelas happiness happiness is short lived in her first year marriage. Her husband had come home and talk to her about having an affair and I think a crush to deeply. I was in love with my husband from the time he was my boyfriend through when he was my heart and he had an affair. And when that happened Finn I was devastated. I thought there was something wrong with me. I thought that wasn't good. Enough obviously broke her heart and changed her trains. The marriage that's the turning court in this story then on May first nineteen ninety just a few days shy of their first wedding anniversary. Everything Changes Pamela. Is that a school board meeting. She gets home about ten o'clock to open the front door and in the festival is her husband. She starts banging on door. Somebody called nine one one. Hurry hurry my husband my husband. I was working as an investigative reporter in New Hampshire scanner. Radio goes off and we understand. Stand the young man has been murdered inside his condominiums get bullet wound in the back of his head. This is the this looks like a mob hit that this is an execution and still hunted every day. By memories of what must have happened to him in our house before he was killed. It looks like Greg must have walked into the middle of a botched screwed up burglary. We noticed that of several things moved. We found that the upstairs stairs as well as the dressers had been gone through completely however police find that greg still has his wallet and he still has a gold wedding band on his hand for the next six weeks. Police Chase down empty leads but then a big break. Suddenly out of the blue a man walks into the police station with a thirty eight caliber revolver beneath says. This is my gun and I think it was used in the Gregory smart murder case. Uh He tells police that his son's friend a teenager by the name of Ralph. Welsh told him that his gun may have been used to kill Greg Tests show that that gun is the weapon that killed Greg Smart that very same day police. He's bringing Ralph Welsh for a videotaped interview..

"This is latest want to know what the fuck that idiom is supposed to mean that turn right right How else do you lose a man that you got him. Birth death so pam is just getting out of her school board meeting. She successfully successfully secured the funds for media programme. She's gotTa go pick something up in her office. She waits really there. When he comes in. He told she tells them not to turn the late and he introduces her to his homerun. Raymond Greg was already there when they got home so they didn't get to go in and she's basically like fucking Piss Bro. She's she thinks they bitched out. Basically it's like I mean honestly like here's the thing she doesn't show that side to Raymond. You've did you notice that like she's like. Oh next time and then she drops Robs Raymond's ass off and starts going off at fucking bill. She didn't even say anything to Raymond Lakesha one thing I noticed that she never directly implicated herself. In front of Ramos that's true like she never even sort of like fully verbally of that on for like seven eleven or whatever and then fucking pulled over and just in the same got afraid the way that she pulled him over and was like because she basically goes and drops off Raymond and then she still has billion the car and she's GonNa drop him off and I don't know if you've ever had your mom yell at you. After we're bad when you were hanging out with your friend once we're alone in this car win about to get my ass handed to me like I felt that secondhand anxiety for him. I was like Oh she oh this is they parked in the same fucking intersection. They always parking spots like this where they fucking like you know it could be a fucking you know filming location budget thing but I think many areas sake so few areas in a small town exact. I'm thinking maybe this is a secluded -cluded area. Where like you know they know that they're not going to be seen together basically or if they do it's only gonna be by Celia when she comes out of the fucking sewer like season together? I mean the one thing that Pam smart has going for her. Even though she'll never get out of jail she tried to appeal to have her case beam not a a life sentence if she got like fifty years than she could still get parole even though she's probably going to die in the next. I don't know maybe twenty probably it. One thing I thought about was like something new could really fuck with when you're criminal was locked away at like. Pam smarts era and she doesn't she's. He's never even held a cell phone. She says that she the prison that she goes doesn't Internet's. She's never used the internet looking crazy and so like this person Stanley. She's not used to a world where there's cameras everywhere. She's not used to a world. So if you're smart you get Outta jail now you would never be able to get away with their crimes and you got to think of it this way to like the it's the same thing like it's kind of the reason she did is because I feel like she kinda wanted to be recognized. You know it's the whole fame thing you'll notice like she called Channel Nine and undoing interview over after fucking husband. It's like in the fact that you say that like this woman's been in jail since before there was really like even like the Internet that we know today you look fucking like Leslie Van Houten who is like one of the Manson girls. She's been imprisoned since one thousand nine hundred seventy in like we'll never get out you mean in like it's like amazing amazing to think that these people have missed so much of the world's advancement because they're so limited to the resources in prison which he did you see once upon a time so oh. I don't this is probably late enough that I can feel okay doing a spoiler but I'm going to do a spoiler here now. I've always felt that Leslie van Houten. She was the one that stayed back and it was in the car and wasn't there wasn't at the share tape murder in real life she yeah okay. Let's see how it was who was the one who who stayed in the car because she's been trying to get off for a long time and I felt that she sort of so the one who the crazy cycle bitch was as you recently died years ago. Yeah I'm prison Susan Suzy over some Shit and then there was Creek Patricia Krenwinkel I think she was the one who is in the house. Is there's one of them who likes sat in the car and then when they did the movie obviously that whole change played out very differently. One of them drove off off. Oh with a girl who drove off I kind of like you always out like a shout out to her because she probably doesn't really deserve to be wrapped up in the way that the other girls were you know if you read into the story did stay outside and a couple of you know like look state outside yeah. I don't know her name but you know shadow. She'll never fucking get out of prison. She never murdered anyone who was in the car that night and so I was like I wonder if because it was so interesting they painted the story that way. I've really I've really liked it. Who I mean death scene at the end was on. Oh so you're the first person I've talked to who liked it as well. Oh what a huge Tarintino nineteen fan like beyond if you want. I also do think I have a tattoo. I can't go back. I will see that one thing that I noticed this movie that had never we're really occurred to me before. Is I feel like all of the entire Quentin Tarantino Universe takes place on the same timeline in some capacity because there was nods to every single one of his other films. Did you notice one of the Italian directors names was Antonio Market. There was the kill Bill Carr was Michael. Madsen was in the beginning scene on bounty law he was he was one of the sheriff all the Nazi shit so coming back in killing the bad guy like very also inglorious bastards. I am a big Tarintino fans this but there was a you know he's only only making ten movies and nine. It's honestly I. I wonder if the tenth movie is going to be also got the western. We got the Django and the hateful eight references in there. I honestly wonder if the tenth movie is going to be about how all these universes collide. Maybe maybe I think with his final. Oh project he's definitely going to like not all the ones he's already done but I think he's GonNa go more in the direction of like reservoir dogs fishing classic Tarantino in terms of like you know more you know mafia oriented type Shit. You don't think he's hinting that. All of this is like one of the big like a bigger cinematic university of their all time because I mean like I said like you don't know this unless you big Tarantino Fan but you know you've got Vic Vega reservoir dogs his younger brothers Vincent Vega. WHO's imperfection fucking you're right everything is connected whether people see it or not like yeah. Everything's tied together by the white bear in in but I really liked Hollywood. I think it was a bit long. I'm just thinking about someone shooting themselves in the head. Let's stick. They skip through this fucking the part but I'm telling you like it's I. The only thing that I would say that I didn't really like was just the fact that it was such a step away from his other. Oh Shit in terms of format like he didn't put the chapter one chapter two chapter three in perfect chronological order other than the one flashback Brad Pitt had like you know biting Bruce Bruce Lee and there was only a few of those iconic shots iconic Tarantino shots. You get the scene where he's feeding his fucking dog. That was like you know the close up on the cans yeah closing the cupboards. Almost I mean I think there's something more their dog. I don't know what it is. I want to you know what it is. I liked that it was goofy though like he does genre shit you know what I mean e- also I noticed too and this is definitely an la thing you don't fucking understand this unless you fucking can have lived in La for but he mentions to Luca Lake in all his fucking movies like hope Caprio is GonNa move out of fucking the two condo. It's Luke Lake Samuel Jackson. You know oh I have a friend into Luke Maye. Who's going to help us clean off all this blood and shit. I don't think anyone didn't fucking America knows what to look. Alike is unless you live here North Hollywood. That's Burbank Right likly very specific neighbor. which is Kinda weird how we say there's really only blew up in the press like in terms of it became a place like was when molly and Justin and all those like yeah yeah that was a big thing for two locally but I love to gracy? Oh I love. I love everywhere in Studio City. That's my shit. That'll Arianne channels Hollywood area like mine but yeah and by the way it was so one cool to live there when I first moved here that I was like. Oh my God I could never I would. I struggled struggled to live within like what I thought was interesting elements and it's not when I first moved here like the scariest the scariest fucking place releasing tunnels Echo Park and now that's where you get fucked. Fassi teasing you know Nice Trinity Tattoos so pam is really disappointed right and she she hides it because Raymond is there but then once you know Raymond's out she gives billy the show. We're GONNA do the scene fifty four fifty five to fifty six thirty three just their little fight. L. Happened out there. I told you just lost so you expect me to believe that lost going to my house. I guess the nights we spent it in a hell of a lot to you. You can't even and remember how to get there. NOPE him either. You're a coward or you never really loved me. Which isn't I do love you. Sarah Coward no right. You never loved me which.

"This really was a soap opera. Unfortunately it's my life and it wasn't a soap opera for me. It was T._V.'s first blockbuster your trial scandalous and sensational her sexuality. That was the star of the PAM smart show. This explosion of flashbulbs picked its body heat. It's fatal attraction. Pamela smart accused of bewitching teenage student into murdering her husband and I said God forgive me. I pulled the trigger now three decades later another look at the frenzy. It was just crazy. The trial I made a mistake was the woman it's not at all who see is is or was and the case some say change the way Americans witness justice. I don't know if nothing will ever be enough for anyone. "To die for starring nicole kidman which is a fictionalized movie version based on the pam smart case and imagine if pam smart today had an appeal or a new trial in front of a jury a lot of people think that jury pool could be tainted by this fictionalized film that came after long after her case was settled so it's that inadvertent process that can have an effect and it's fair i mean i think that frankly as someone who's been writing about true crime for a long time as a journalist it's very very hard to understand what the majority was thinking in that particular case again pop culture has such an effect on these things i mean i can see why you know your sort of expectation of a cop bringing a suspect before you're saying this the guy you're saying yeah that's the guy who else would know broad right right and we we see it all the time law and order briscoe hall somebody in front of somebody and it's like oh briscoe got him he's got to be the bad guy right exactly so i do wonder how those decisions get made i mean it seems like you know you don't want to handcuff police detectives and say that their judgment on you know like let's say they just caught a perpetrator who just stole somebody's purse you know or they think stole somebody's person they say was this the guy who still your purse you know and she says yeah that's the guy who stole my purse you know that that is requiring them to get the guy take him to the station you know put him in a lineup all those procedures seem onerous to you know to a layman i would imagine it becomes the law i mean new hampshire may actually take some corrective action here the newsroom that i work in we report a lot on politics and policy in the state house and i happen to know that there is a bill at the new hampshire state house it's hp one three two nine it would mandate law enforcement agencies adopt new policies around i witness ide in order prevent this exact kind of.

"Yeah the outside it sounds like you are chomping at the bits of talk about another supreme court case that was happening up in new hampshire did you want to chime in on that yeah there's actually a case that involves defendant new hampshire his perry versus new hampshire and the facts of the case are basically that there was i wouldn't identification that involved woman who was a victim of a crime believe was a burglary and she then was asked to identify a suspect who was outside handcuffed and surrounded by police officers and so she made the id in police said is this your guy and she basically said yes but then later she couldn't describe the suspect she couldn't pick them out of a photo array and then you know interestingly enough the supreme court actually when the case made it a supreme court the supreme court actually did not rule in perry's favor that this was an unfair process for the identification did not you know hurt him at trial and what i always think super interesting about this opinion is who wrote it it was written by ruth bader ginsburg and clarence thomas actually joined in on the majority here but i lean in my opinion about the case or the descent as we've talked about earlier the act of suggestion creates due process problems right it's not just the you know what the cops did it's the effect of that act and that's kind of what soda my or set in her dissent that the the court's ruling draws a distinction between suggestive conduct and inadvertent suggestive conduct and either one of those can be unfair and it kind of goes back to the science right i mean think about what people see and their bias and perceptions as we were talking about earlier you know that i think it makes me think of is another story from new hampshire the pam smart case right so there's a lot of data that shows that when people are asked about the pam smart case the facts of the case that they recall are actually the facts of the movie.
