Inside a New Skunk Works Factory

"Kitty sort of like kind of explain to everybody. This is a bit different. Why hockey's approach is different and tell us a little bit more about the the digital transformation that they're on yeah so it's it's kind of a two-part transformation that they showed us in in actually quite some detail quite elaborate detail during this tour on august tenth at site tin plant. Forty two also known as skunkworks in palmdale man the two parts to it one is is just on the digital side in his new approach digital engineering and digital manufacturing and the second is the sort of physical in standardization of that with infrastructure in the form of a new factory Huge new factory that they've built in erected on the skunkworks. Campus there in palmdale and So we get to see kind of both sides of that you know. Basically the sort of sub projects that this step by step series of sub projects where they proved out this or if digital manufacturing approach which they are now going to apply to projects. That are actually going to start building in this new factory in what they call building six six four eight on on on the campus so that was That was the point of the of the visit and the tour ride can just to set the scene a little. Now we know that the skunkworks really as it's it's modern era occupies. Most people now in palmdale in that corner of plant. Forty two those two large mainly to large hangar buildings that were built the stall factory in the desert that was built for the tunnel. I haven't program back in the late sixties so where in relation to those huge hang this the new facility right so there's building six. Oh one which is the building that we served commonly associated with the skunkworks quirks. Since it moved to palmdale from burbank in the late nineteen eighties to occupy that. "Go ahead. Assemblyman Tom Wacky from Palmdale. I's gonna explain his interactions with the employment development Department. This is the Notorious agency that is supposed to send out unemployment checks to millions of people that Gavin Newsom threw out of work and has not been able to In millions of cases, and we have told you repeatedly about the fraud where many hundreds thousands of prisoners Got unemployment checks, including death row prisoners. Scott Peterson, for example, l a gang members, foreigners, foreigners, fraudsters in Russia, China and Nigeria, among other countries. Fraudsters in all 50 states. And the latest estimate is about $11 billion, but they think there's more fraud they're going to find. The total might hit 30 billion 30 billion. It seems unlimited losses have gone on. That's our tax money here, and nobody is being publicly held responsible at all. It seems Get Tom Lackey on. All right, Tom. Thanks for coming with coming on with us. Hey, thank you. That zone honor to be here explains you and tell us what you first got. Wind of something might be wrong with the employment development Department of the benefits. Yeah. First came to my attention through my district office. We were getting a flood of constituents coming forward with concern that they were getting these credit cards sent to their home with different names, but to their address, and we clearly knew that that was problematic because we did a check on those names to see if they had ever lived in our Our region and they never had and it just kept Piling up piling up day to day to a very significant degree. And so, yeah, we tried to bring attention to it, and we got summarily dismissed. It was very frustrating. Describe that because this started last summer is that when this was going on, it was actually our first attempt to try to bring attention when it started to become very evident was in September early September. Okay, So tell us what you did. And what happened with the D d in your interactions. Okay? Yeah. The first time we tried to bring it directly to the attention of E, D D and we took a stack of These credit cards that were pretty pretty significant in number and so my staff and I went over to the E D D building and we got Denied entry and I I identified myself as elected official and because I'm sure they've been bombarded with a couple of well probably a high number of people that were difficult to deal with. And he accused me of being an attorney. Which I'm not it and they denied entry. Did you try to get in the building and they wouldn't let you in? Yeah. I mean, they wouldn't even let me in until finally the I I asked for. Supervisor the security because it's an independent security system they contract with and I said, I explained my situation and he tried to find an employee that would accept these cards and no one would come to the front door, so I left him with him. That was my first attempt. I left her with the supervisor of the security. And did you hear back? No. Nothing, not a whisper and we tried to call we made follow up phone calls, and we got nothing back and then so I happen to be part of an oversight committee. Budget committee that was watching and trying to monitor these difficult Missteps being afforded by the E. D. D and I brought a suitcase. Full of 650 of these that had accumulated and just barely over a month since my first attempt and these air cards that your constituents got in the mail Yep. Every one of them everyone was brought to us. By a constituent into our office. So when the time you're an assemblyman, Shouldn't you have some sort of access to like the E d d director? Well, we did through, uh, through our committee hearing, and I brought it to her attention number times, and, uh, at that time it was sharing Hillier. And she was very dismissive. And she was very, uh, very frustrating to deal with because she wouldn't even admit that the problem existed. Wow, this the ladies ever tired, But if you're showing her 650 cards That that that your constituents guy, fraudulent cards. What was her response? Well, she she quickly blamed Bake of America. Cause they're the ones issuing the cars, and in fact, they were giving instruction to our constituents to shred them instead of following up and use their evidence of a crime, for heaven's sake, and they're telling people to actually shred that evidence so there could be no follow up and Was very disheartening, A very frustrating because we knew the seriousness that these amount of money that was being mishandled and fraudulently being received was it was interfering with the legitimate people that are in desperate need. I'm telling yet. But I have stopped members who actually are brought to tears because of the very severe circumstances of many, many people through no fault of their own. They lost their job and through no fault of their own. They're not getting any money rising someone to destroy the evidence of a crime. Sounds like a crime in and of itself to me. It's very disturbing, very disturbing, as a matter of fact, and this was a bipartisan objection. By the way, the committee was appalled by this information that we were We were dealing with and the feedback that we were getting. There was mutual disagreement. What do you think it was that a mistake by the fraudsters? I mean, if there's money on those cards, and the cards are ending up in the hands of these residents clearly They had their identity stolen in some way. But how did it benefit the fraudsters to have the residents get the cards? Was this just some kind of mistake They made? I can't. I can't actually speak to the process. All I know is that something very nefarious was taking place and we were very disturbed by the fact that it wasn't being followed up with it in a responsible way and That is, uh, it's a dysfunction of government, and it's an indication that we're not doing our job trying to fix the cabin. Sir John's question. My understanding. Is this work different ways. Now, Tom, your constituents who got these cards where the cards in their name wasn't name they didn't recognize. No, it was the name they didn't recognize. You see, John what they were doing the fraudsters. They were getting ideas of people and applying for unemployment And then just using addresses, And sometimes they go over to the house and say, Oh, you got my mail by mistake. Would you give me that? Please get to the name of Joe blow exactly. I say. And some people did some people like I'm sorry again. We did get your mail here. It is sure that Z what you would do it. I don't understand. So how does this and what was your name again? Susan Hilliard, Sharon Sharon Sharon Hilliard. She get to blow off a committee when there's clearly billions of dollars of fraud happening. How does she get to walk out of that room? Let me just tell you she was a product of Edie Edie. She had been in that system and et de since 1983 when George Duke nation was governor, so she had been a product of that hole. Bureaucracy that is in deniability and never. I mean the problem with bureaucrats as they have very little incentive to improve so they don't like talk. Can you hold on? Yeah, Hold on. Right. We've got a lot to cover..

That was an assumption made by another outlet but they are reporting that it would appear that a member of security detail somehow intervening And there was a carjacking was happening down the street from here and the individuals crashed the car. They were was as they were trying to get away. So let me rewind the so this is just a i guess. A random thing that that originated in beyond bill and it just happened to to end in granada hills real. Jackie lacey. this is just merely a date was characterized me and say mini crime spree that started earlier today and ended in granada hills with With a crash of a vehicle As they were trying to get away. Yeah probably not gonna get a lot of sympathy from the prosecutors Disturbing the the county slade though. There's a new regime coming jerk stoned. Well well so are their arrest in chaps in custody and the whole deal What we're told us the two individuals got away so there does so the way this breaks down is since it started in palmdale so the. My grandma keeps saying this phrase. Function. She updates me about her puzzle. She tells me how many hummingbirds she counted in the are that day. She asks about my phone dates. And cheer pizzas words. Every time we talk.
