"If you could have any plane you wanted and I know that you've thought about this Greg If I said money is no object I will give you one aircraft for keeps What would you choose A palatis Porter turbo It's a single engine high wing plane that can land on short runways and take off on short runways They used to allow us during the Vietnam War and it's still in active service as I guess you call it a bush plane a really high powered bush plane Very cool I'm gonna check that out It's not what I was expecting as a response I wasn't either I thought P-51 Mustang something but that's pretty sweet All right let's get with that to something completely different The world of small cap stocks we bring in our cross asset reporter pretty Gupta Pretty Well Matt a little bit of green on the screen here when it comes to the Russell 2000 outperforming all of the other U.S. equity benchmarks but look under the hood And a lot of the good news is coming from several BioTech companies Let's start off with protagonist Therapeutics Take your PT GX Shares had doubled after U.S. regulators allowed studies of its blood cancer drug rust for tide I don't know if I'm saying that right Just bear with me there to resume Shares are now up 82% So a little bit of a fade but still 82% nothing to scoff at And then of course we have a flexion Therapeutics You have pasir biosciences agreeing to buy the company in a $630 million deal that boosts the company's portfolio of non opioid pain relief therapy shares are up about 60% ticker FLX And so those of course are the major contributors to the rustle on the positive side On the negative side highly on holdings down after UBS cut its recommendation to sell from neutral on expectations of a slower and more costly ramp up for the electric power provider including a quote careful customer adoption rate and supply chain and labor challenges you have those shares down 12% to your HY LN And lastly I HRT that is of course iHeartMedia shares down about 4% after Liberty Media sold its entire stake in a block trade of 5.94 million class a shares I heart formerly known as clear channel communications at one point the number one performing stock for the decade of the 90s was my top pick for many many years But then radio fell on hard times as did the billboard business but interesting company nonetheless Is it making a comeback though Always listen to radio so to this day obviously listen to a ton of radio just in my free personal free time Don't other people drive around in the car It does Radio has great listenership Yes it's down from the peak It has great listenership but it just can't attract the advertising dollars digital took them all So that's my having took basically the whole radio industry public in the 90s I can say that with some authority So unfortunately the business model is pretty challenged but still a lot of cash flow can support some debt and there you go Pretty good Thanks so much for joining us We appreciate that cross asset reporter All right we had some good news out of Merck late last week They've got an emergency use authorization for pill for COVID That could reduce hospitalization risk by about 50% And a lot of folks are saying this is a game changer in terms of dealing with the virus Rodney Griffin U.S. healthcare reporter for Bloomberg news joins us on the phone So Raleigh how big is this news out of Merck Now they've had a couple days to digest it This is a big deal If you ask Anthony Fauci or Francis Collins at the NIH what they've been seeking out of the treatment landscape over the last year and a half as we've been amid this pandemic the answer is clear It's a pill A pill that's easy to deploy quick to make and cheap right And that's what Merck is aiming to deliver here with its partner bio Therapeutics We've just learned this morning that the companies have sought emergency use authorization in the U.S. for a moment which would move the pill closer to becoming the very first oral antiviral treatment for COVID-19 The hope I hear from an executive just last week is that this could come through before Halloween All right so what does this mean for you know for example the death curve I hate to say that It sounds horrible But is it going to drastically improve our chances human chances of surviving COVID-19 Yes So what we've seen is that it cuts the risk of hospitalization for patients by half And these are patients that are at risk of developing a severe illness that might require hospitalization ultimately Where do you see this in the course of treatment Well the real hope with Merck's monopoly is that you get it right away after a confirmed COVID diagnosis So this isn't a treatment for those who are sickest already in the hospital It's for those who are at risk of getting pretty sick And they take it very early on in their course of treatment What does that mean for the death curve Obviously we have seen that many people still aren't vaccinated in this country And that means that treatments are still desperately needed to reduce that risk It's a highly anticipated drug here in the U.S. but also a broad where vaccines aren't as equitably accessible as they have been here in the U.S. What's the timing there Riley in terms of when I think Merck in a pill I'm thinking they can crank out billions of these and get them anywhere in the world and very quickly What does Merck say about their sense of timing and getting these pills fully distributed like you said to some of the areas that may not have access to the vaccine quite yet Great question Well here in the U.S. we know that Merck is going to be able to make 10 million treatment courses or 400 million capsules before the end of 2021 They've been manufacturing this pill at risk over the course of the year and that's how much we anticipate to have through the end of the year So substantially more will be produced in 2022 but to get that at that question for low and middle income countries What Merck is doing is suggesting that they're going to make voluntary licenses available to third party generic drug manufacturers They're already 8 that are doing this in India What that means is they're letting other companies manufacture with their own IP this product So that is a big step in the right direction in terms of access market known for those public health commitments throughout history It's something that they're aiming to do in the near term and I anticipate that the company will clinch more of those deals before the end of.

It was fired in the air where it was shot at but there was a shot that ring out. prior to the first victim going down. Okay and if you look at the first video, you can see the muzzle flash in the far left hand side of your screen. Okay. shortly after that. He said he saw the seventeen year old turn. The person that he shot through something out, them appear to be some sort of bag. Why somebody would throw an empty bag at somebody. Beats the Hell Outta me I've never seen. Somebody throwing in an empty bag at somebody. But nevertheless, I'm sure there was something in it. He. Turned the first guy that got shot. Attempted to grab the AR fifteen out of his hands. he pulled back with the are. And The guy was struggling try to disarm 'em. He fired several rounds dropping that guy. He took off and then circle back around and came back. The medic that was under that took his shirt off. That was trying to plug the holes told him to call nine one one not realizing he was he was the initial shooter. which dropped that guy. He saw the guy, the seventeen year old palatis phone make the nine one one call in shortly after that fled on foot as a crowd approached. He took off running was running down the street was being chased. One of them shoved him. Trying to tackle them I guess. As he was running, he tripped over his own feet fell on the ground. was attacked by another guy with the skateboard. Victim Number two. Who hit him with the skateboard tried to take the weapon and when he turned with the weapon pointed toward him, he tried to run at the same time that was taking place. He fired around into the guy's abdomen and I'm not sure if there were several other shots he hit him with but I know one for sure through the stomach. And other guy. which was victim number three. was approaching him with a pistol drawn. Now victim number three wasn't supposed to have a pistol by the way because he's been arrested and I think it was for I forget what all he was a risk for their long rap sheets on all these idiots. But. was approaching them with a pistol. He fired at him blowing out his BICEP. The guy went to the ground. still clutching his pistol although he couldn't move or move that movies hand. Until they were all rushed to the hospital to do A. One was Wounded pretty well. May lose his arm don't know if that happened or not. So. If all this holds true. Okay it's still self-defense. People are saying, well, he cross state. Lines. So many different. Yeah. So Number One. Number two, I heard that he had not cross state lines? Okay number three. He did not premeditate. The murder in any way shape or form for anybody. He was even carrying a medic bag. In hopes of being able to administer some sort of first aid if anybody got hurt. The boy was there to to protect a car line. Because somebody was needing. and. He's allowed to do that. People say I need help and Gordon if I needed help protecting my house and you said he'd come over and guard it. You, know you can do that. Whether you got to cross state lines or not. You know. There's nothing premeditated in the shooting. Is it a shame? You know these guys got shot? Yeah. It's a shame that anybody get shot. But You know. You gotta look at things like this. Don't. Start No. Shit won't be. No. Shit And that's good. You know and you got ANTIFA and a starting shit there's going to be. Just, like there was another man that lost his life last night. And that was flat out murder. Guy. Walked up to him and shot him. There was no self defense in that one. Was An execution Execution Exactly And I had to bring up to the forefront to also what has happened to the people that got beat to death during these protests the guy laying on the street and the crumpled mass arms legs ski all over and I I. I've heard nothing not one word about his outcome whether or not anybody was charged with his murder or if there was an assault charges against him or what about the guy from the Procession that was going down the street he got clobbered and beat to death an entirely left with the almost paralysis. And there's been others, police, officers shot. killed maimed. Everything. That's going on. I have not heard any coverage concerning these people you hear about this kid you hear about him because I think the media is trying to to disregard what the true Legalities are concerning this case everybody jumped on board with the media and said, Oh, my God he's a murderer. He is this he is that he is the face of the trump supporters and so on and so on and I I just can't buy it. I won't buy because the kid I mean I've been in enough tells in my life. From high school all the way up the bar fights to whatever you WANNA call it. When you're in those kind of situations I'm sure you guys have been to. You're not really thinking of the galaxies and you just are basically wanting to save your own, ass. Anyway that was the course that I took sometimes when I got into situations like that but be that as it may. We have to look at the legalities and if you watch the video of this kid..

She's not as passionate about aviation as I am but as a or real statement of love to me because she just knew how passionate I was about this and she wanted to support me and she did she did every single oleg of all three trips and it was great. President Trump has moved dramatically to pull free from congress in recent weeks, by slapping, huge trade penalties on Chinese imports, directing the construction of a wall along the Mexico border looking to solve issues that dog Democrats and Republicans for decades, the risky moves Mark. Mr. Trump's attempt to deliver on two of his core campaign promises in the face of a democratic house and muted GOP opposition in the Senate as he seeks to cast himself as a defiant chief executive willing to act alone. What about repercussions? Here's Damian polenta senior economics correspondent at the Washington Post Damien what's up here. After the first two years of his presidency will really didn't see much movement on either of these issues. The president has in the past few months, really gotten much more aggressive broke loose from congress and decided to do things on his own. So he declared national -mergency in February. Gives him the frees up money. So that he can build a wall along the Mexican border and just in the past few days. He's got an extraordinarily tough on China imposed, you know, huge on two hundred billion dollars in Chinese imports is threatening to impose to everything else. China sends us more than three hundred billion dollars in goods that would impact virtually every American in what they consume on a weekly basis. It could certainly see his frustration with congress failing to adequately address these issues could things get worse. If he say does not or you know won't address these things on his own. Well, yeah. I mean, I think his frustrations both with you know, the conversation with China, quite frankly, he feels like that they need the play. They they need the tough talk in order to for them to listen, they have been paying attention taking seriously. So he thinks he has to to really finish out across about. Now. The question is we're sitting now China's responding not by capitulating by retaliating and. So they're going to impose on US products. You know, and then it's going to go back and forth with this, you know, escalation of day perhaps and how much more of the stock market volatility in the White House stomach. No, we're not really sure, you know, in the past other countries have kind of caved to his threats, but China is not is not following that playbook. So, you know, the does seem to be definitely some near term. The president thinks this is worth it to get you know, the change it's been needed for decades. China approach to trade, but you know, one kind of miss misalignment of one mistake on either side could really hammer the economy, the global economy, quite frankly. And no one knows where things will go from there speaking with Damian Poletto senior economics correspondent at the Washington. Post historian isn't titled Trump's go it alone approach on trade and immigration poses economic risks. Like is there potential that China could be hurting more simply because we import far more. Than we export. They're really great question. I think the president definitely believe that. And there are signs that China. The Konami is weakening in that they could feel you know, these changes more acutely. But at the same time, you know, the US academies been doing so well, you know, something like getting into a trade war with their largest trading partner. Who knows what that could mean if China decides to stop buying US products if they make it harder for some of their products? Get over here to the states in the drive prices up or you know, has all sorts of confusing. Unintended consequences or possibly intended consequences. You know, small damage to the US economy could be major damage around the world in countries aren't even the middle of this. And we won't know that, you know, for maybe a few weeks a month with twenty twenty in mind, how about the political risks or rewards domestically. That was one of the prize me last week about this with how much President Trump tried to connect Joe Biden with this China issue, he really targeted former vice president Biden directly by saying if those the Obama and Biden ministration that allowed China to take take advantage of the US for so long. And I thought that by him invoking that it makes it seem a lot less likely that he's going to back down. So he sees this as you know, part of his narrative for twenty twenty him being tough with China, especially if he can do some damage to Biden in the process. So I think we should expect to hear more of that. It'll be interesting to see how Democrats respond. China's invest more than three hundred billion dollars in goods that would impact in virtually every American in what they consume on a weekly basis. It could certainly see his frustration with congress failing to I guess adequately address these issues could things get worse if he say does not or you know, won't address these things on his own. Well, yeah. I mean, I think his frustrations both with you know, congress and with China, quite frankly, he feels like that they need to play. They they need to tough talk in order to get them to listen, you know, they have been paying attention taking. So he thinks he has to to really finish out across about. Now. The question is, you know, and as we're seeing now China's responding not by capitulating by retaliating and. So they're going to impose on US products. You know, and then it's going to go back and forth with this. You know escalation every day perhaps in how much more of the stock market volatility can the White House stomach. No, we're not really sure, you know, in the past other countries have kind of caved to his threats. The China is not is not following that playbook. So you know, does seem to be definitely some near term risk. The president thinks this is worth it to get you know, the change it's been needed for decades in China and their approach to trade, but you know, one kind of miss misalignment of one mistake on either side can really, you know, hammer the economy the global economy, quite frankly. And no one knows what things would go from there speaking with Damian polenta senior economics correspondent at the Washington Post. His story is entitled Trump's go it alone approach on trade and immigration poses economic risks. I guess is there potential that China could be hurt more simply because we import far more. Than we export there. That's a really great question. I think the president definitely believes that. And there are signs that China's economy is weakening in that they could feel you know, these changes more acutely. But at the same time, you know, the US economy's been doing so well in something like getting into a trade war with their largest trading partner. Who knows what that could mean if China decides to stop buying US products, if they make it harder for some of their products, even get over here to the states in address prices up, or you know, has all sorts of you know, confusing. Unintended consequences or possibly intending consequences. You know, the small damage to the US economy could be major damage around the world in countries that aren't even in the middle of this. And we won't know that, you know, for maybe a few weeks or months with twenty twenty in mind, how about the political risks or rewards domestically. Devastated things that surprised me last week about this with how much President Trump tried to connect Joe Biden with this China issue. He he really targeted former vice president Biden directly by saying, you know, the Obama and Biden ministration that allowed China to take take advantage of the US for so long. And and I thought that by him invoking that it makes it seem a lot less likely that he's going to back down soon. He sees this as a strong, you know, part of his narrative for twenty twenty and being tough with China, especially if he can do some damage to Biden in the process, so I think we should expect to hear more of that. It'll be interesting to see how Democrats respond. Steaming that is Damien palatis senior economics correspondent at the Washington Post fourteen minutes now after the.

"Is. Like, what you hear catch all the bag episodes of the down and dirty radio show on apple podcast and be sure to rate review and subscribe. Welcome back here to the down and dirty radio show, powered by palatis razor. And you know, this is a part of the reason why we're airing this if you're listening live online so Wednesday, if you're listening in national syndication didn't affect you or are on demand. You know, it's it's just whenever we listened to. But push your show back a day because mainly because Spencer lows passing in. I know a lot of people of the tune in. You know, if you're not an offer at circles, you might not know him you've probably seen the truck though back in the eighties. But you might not know the name now, but he was factory Nissan driver for for years. You wrote driven drove that a conic Saint paint scheme that you saw all the factory Nissan cars back in the air. You know, the red white and blue paint scheme. But he's a factory Nissan driver. You know, did I don't know what he clashed seven ASI -ccomplish so much so many victories just a legend a true legend of offroad who's on the manufacturing side of sun. Kind of carried over and started doing some Nissan manufacturing lift kits and stuff like that at one point in time. But. He was a close friend of mine. He lived here in park, not always. But he moved to park. Arizona bought FOX's on the river sold a few years ago, but just a really really close family friend of ours. And. It, you know, it's a tough one, man. I it really really was kinda hit home. And so I wanted to pull out I did an interview I was gonna air it in the national show. One of my first interviews I ever did back in twenty twelve we're talking I think it was February first twenty twelve which was about a month and a half after I started the radio show, and we took two weeks off for Christmas or something, but I did a live show casino. And it's funny because I haven't listened to those shows in a long time and. I was just kind of figuring things out as a radio interviewer and a radio host. It was live in an event. He had all the background noise. We're at the if the Parker four twenty five and a party, I threw mazing party need to get back to throwing this party Reese do that man. And we'd blow the roof off the places but Spencer stop by to support what I was doing and I sat him down. And it wasn't like he's planning on being aired. If I remember like literally had to like strangle hold him and his wife Kathy's. I just go do it Spencer and got him sit down. And I thought we might have them on for ten minutes. I was going to fit it in national sought like a thirty minute interview. He talked about his career, and you know, his love of off road and things like that. And you know, it's come full circle. Because that was what are we twenty nineteen? Now that's twenty seven years ago. Things have come full circle because he was talking about like wanting at some point to go do are things like that. Well, he's come back, and he's done Nori did them in four hundred things like that. You know? So it's just kind of interesting thing. But there's some really good stuff talking about his career and there anyways, I dropped in our feed yesterday. So if you subscribe on itunes, you check out the website. It's right there. It's easy to get. It's like thirty minutes. Audio quality man, I'm telling you. It was one of my first shows we had some headsets weren't quite what we're using now and not even close or us now, but audio quality is a little scratchy. You can still understand everything. But and it was one of my first shows in just thankful, I still have that piece of audio content. That's I guess that's one thing really special that I really enjoy. I don't wanna say enjoy. But I'm honored to honor to have is these interviews with guys like Spencer low, and Dave Mirra, you know, an after they pass we can go back and reflect and listen to them talk about their careers and things like that. And it's one thing that's that. I hold special about doing radio and being able to spend time with these absolute legends. You know, as because we do have some amazing audio diaries with these people telling their stories about their life and careers and things like that. So Spencer man, what can I say whole family? Just good people and he always treated treated my family. You know? So so well spent so many times drinking with him up at his bar. Fox's. And yeah, definitely definitely going to going to be missed. You know? I it's one of those things I'm trying not to get choked up trying not to shed any tears. I've done that already. We're here. We're doing the national show. But I just wanted to, you know, say, hey, the sky, you know, and it's one of those things where the he was legendary in the eighties. Right. And I think a lot of people new to the sport lot of people listening to this show. Maybe not even born back when he was in his prime. So you might not know the name. But you know, he was if you're around in the late seventies and the eighties. You know, the name Spencer low, and you know, you know, the trucks so yeah, just thinking about them and just an amazing amazing guy and definitely gonna be missed by the entire offered community. And I'm just stoked that he was able to bring that Nissan back and run the mint and run nor last year. And I know that was something really really special to him. So if you do want to hear him talk about his career, we did drop that yesterday. So it's out there. So yeah, I mean, I could take a whole show telling. Spencer stories, but I'm not gonna do that. So we're we're going to try and transition in here before I get kind of choked up on air. We are going to be debuting something here in the next segment something, I'm really really excited about you know, me I listen to listen to a lot of actually talk radio. And I listen to other hosts, and it is you know, me I'm a pro wrestling fan. I do not hide. That fact, I like pro wrestling, I'm the, you know, like street by Tommy says like you're the guy that never grew up. Well, me and a bunch of others because. It's a massive industry. And you know, it's actually my podcast project. Act action we've interviewed a lot of them. But I've always said race car drivers can take something from from pro wrestling in the personas and things like that. But. Anyways. One of my favorite shows called busted opens on Sirius XM on fate nation and listen to daily in every week. They do something called the called the weekly power rankings WWE powering kings, right? And it's not like it's not key cumulative in in so much that you know, what I mean accounts like the past three months or four months, so literally just that weeks body of work. So it's basically like who have the best week. And I think that's really RAD with this show because some weeks we're going to have off road guys on the list other weeks, we're going to other weeks. We're gonna have drag races on the list or IndyCar drivers or a may God forbid, maybe even a NASCAR driver. Right. Well, you know, offroad drifting rally supercross anybody that competes in racing action sports that involves racing like snow cross. Whatever we they have a chance to be on this power rankings and two had the biggest impact that we. Can someone is going to be hard because there might be only one race going and then other weeks way of like six or seven man, it's going to be tough to crack those rankings? So we're going to debut those in the next segment, I'm really excited about it. This is something we are going to do weekly. And so I'm really excited, I know in future episodes, my boy, Christly only there that handles a median the website for me. He calls in from time to time he's going to start doing his own too. And we'll actually kind of have a debate about. So I'm gonna roll it out this week, and then, you know, future episodes most weeks will probably have Chris calling in, you know, and he'll be he'll be given his kind of like, I don't know. We'll probably go back and forth. So it should be kind of fun. So I'm excited. Once we roll this out in the next thing. And I love to hear what you guys think. So if you want to give me follow at Jimmy riff, teen on social media, and you know, definitely chime in and let me know, you know, what what your thoughts are on it. So that's coming up in the next segment really excited about that. But I do have to talk, and I know Tiffany stone. And I we'll get into talk and KOA ch- here later on in the show is she? Drives back to Michigan from Johnson valley. But I snuck out there last week. Obviously, I raise the trophy truck. Big thanks to vision wheel general tire for sport in that program. But yeah, so raise the trophy truck. And then we moved onto KOA Che snuck out there Monday did a radio show uh spend a little time there on hammer town catching up with some friends, and I gotta tell you I tune in the rest of the week. I just didn't I had too much going on to actually stay at hammers for the entire week's actually almost like two weeks ten days, whatever I didn't have enough time to do it all but that being said like insane insane race, Dave. Call tip of the cap KOA. Never disappoints UT race was off the hook. I I'm looking forward to racing the next year. I know we talked about this last week in the live show Menzies van and amazing effort Guthrie's. Mitch Guthrie genius kid is just he's a world beater sees way to put it. You know, and then you move into the trophy truck race. And you know, I was skeptical about it. And you know, I I'm hoping no Parker is making some inroads next year to try and accommodate this. I hope that KOA ch- does the same thing. I think that there's an you know, we can have both races. I'm hoping that you know, somehow they worked together to make it happen. And no Parker where here we're making some inroads. We're moving the date up a week. So that gives another week for teams that wanna do both. You know, but I would love to see KOA champ Parker, like a, you know, a shootout, you know, like literally the best of the best. I know that was the goal at Keio h they got twenty two twenty three entries. They were looking to have like thirty or forty at one point, you know. And I think it hurt Parker's entries. A well. Some hoping they can work together for that. But an amazing race do after tip the cap there. Live streaming and stuff mazing. You know, I think between the mid four hundred what they're doing and Welsh fours doing we're seeing the future. What offroad racing could be that gets me really really excited. So we're gonna talk a whole lot of ultra four today. Get Jason sheer. He's come calling in for a couple of segments in that interview, so long we're actually going to run it in project action as well. So we're going to take a short break we come back or rolling out the power rankings here on the down and dirty radio show, powered by Polaris razor.
