Translating the Buddhist Scriptures

"The Buddhist said. In the Middle Length Discourse One oh three. The vegetables agree on the meaning but disagree on the phrasing. But the venerable should know that this is how such agreement on the meaning disagreement on the phrasing come to be. But the phrasing is a minor matter. Please don't get into a fight about something. So minor. So this is talking about. Sharing the Dharma. On the original language that the Buddhist disciples were sharing it and they were disagreeing about the phrasing. In other words they understood and agreed upon the meaning of the Dharma but they're having problems with the exact words to use to express it. And the Buddha don't get hung up on the phrasing. And this applies. Directly to. Translating. When you're translating the the Ceuta's from the original Pali to. Modern English wore things you can do is get hung up on phase phrasing. And phrasing simply means the way that it's put into English the words that are used. And this is a problem because you can get really hung up on this if you. Have done translating I did translate in Bible College my background was in Greek and. Biblical. Translation. And I did I've actually translated the gospel of John a couple of times and I the saloons. And some parts of Matthew. And I think if America did mark too but I can't remember at hand and the beginning of of Luke. And one of the things that I realized. Is. That originally the less you know the more you think a literal translation is the correct way to go. problem with a literal translation is that the people the the people who are reading the literal translation aren't getting the message they're not getting the original message. So which you have to do is come up with a dynamic equivalence so that you understand the message in in this case poly. And then you translate that message from Pali into English. And that's hard to do to to use the right words and to convey things because you can get hung up on the correspondence between the words and not understand the correspondence between the connotations. For an example, I just just reading a translation from I B Horner. in the Vanilla where she was translating that the Buddha was pacing back and forth worth the word pacing has the connotation of be nervous like you're nervous in your pacing back and forth. And a better translation would be walking back and forth because that's walking meditation is what the Buddha was doing. He wasn't pacing he's completely elaborated individual he wouldn't be pacing. and. So the word the connotation pacey means going back and forth. But the connotation has the idea that you're stressed and to bring that across when you're translating is actually much more difficult than people realize and this is what makes translation so difficult.

Paisley Park Debuts New Statue of Prince's Love Symbol

"Cool free photo op now outside of Paisley Park. Kind of cool. They announced that Ah yesterday, Um Paisley Park, put it out on Twitter, and it's the princes love symbol. And it's outside of Paisley Park, which, by the way, you don't realise until this is up. Oh, my gosh, This really needed this, because if you've been to Paisley Park or driven by it It is this massive 65,000 square foot compound. Which sort of looks a bit bizarre but unassuming. Yeah, it doesn't look like a home. No, certainly not in my office building. I passed it so many times before someone when I just moved here before somebody said, Well, Paisley Park in Xi'an essence right on five, and I was like, what you talking about? And it was like A block or two down from where my daughter was going to school at the time, and I was like, Oh, my God, that is it. But now, so it's all white Paisley Park is, but now they have the purple symbol right outside of it during normal business hours. You can stop by. If you're just driving by. You think I want a photo? You Khun get a photo there totally free. There's very little on the Pacey Park tour or anything that you're allowed to take pictures off. So now? Yeah. Photo op. No, no, I've been I've been well, here's the thing, though. I just I have to Had this disclaimer, please. You can't get into the parking lot without showing your tickets. Is that different now, though that could be, But I've been there three times, and it's been the same way every time. I think that may have changed because because it's only during normal business hours. Okay, that you could do this so But anyway, it's kind of cool. So next time you're AH, driving in Chanhassen, look over Paisley Park on five and you'll see this cool, really big. Purple. Ah, love simple love it.

"Guy. I should've given me energy. I'm charged up and who the number of things in that scene. There is of course the dreary music which shots of its time. But there's also a sweet undercurrent like what Joey is experiencing is a pleasant saying. Hey I see you yes and most. Recently we talked about that with priest how he sees fleabag and understands her uh-huh and that's what's happening in this scene Pacey sees. Joey see remembers. Joey he listens to the facts that she delivers an offhand off hand manner. She's not telling him this obsession quiz him later. Here when you think about someone when you care about someone you remember the shit that they say yes. Yeah and it's a dead giveaway when someone's kind of like Oh yeah. Let me tell you the details of that. It was a sunny Thursday hallway. I was annoying you as per usual. which is that page? Yeah clearly yeah. He's you know you thought I was this. You mentioned your mom so at this point we know about juries. Family situation is kind of a mixed bag. Her father is incarcerated oldest oldest sister's kind of like looking off to the whole situation. Her mother was passed away. That's a lot of just like baggage there. And she's working through at any make stuff difficult. Sieff a PAC- to have noticed the you know the bracelet to have remembered what it meant like. That's I don Uma. That's pule sex to me. It is so incredibly hot and sweet in the twin towers of real buzz. Is it hot is it sweet. Put it in my vied. Yes but also with that seem pacey. He is running his hands. His fingers like the back of his fingers up and down her arm. She's wearing like a spaghetti. Strap dress or arms are exposed right. Fashion he is lightly touching her bag and they're doing a very simple slow to step on the dance floor right because who knows what that real music right now at the time just created this very intimate bubble of Jabal right yes and then he leans in even closer pitch and whispers everything he says it right above that kind of that makes God. I'm not okay okay. But the idea of being able to kind of Duplicate real emotion. Yeah in a way that feels authentic Cheetah. So Oh you're being kind of led down a garden path. You just think to yourself. Wow I feel I know what I'm supposed to be feeling and I'm feeling it. Yes because part of the things that you know kind of pull me away away from Dawson's creek the rest of it when I'm watching it is the language doesn't feel natural and some of the other actors malls the circumstances circumstances. Of course they have to be outside. Because we're watching a television show but some of the you know the kind of it will pull me away But with Joshua Jackson S Pacey I I am on the edge of my seat. All the way standing up and when he's having moments of high passionate you know when he's just like mad at someone when he's you you know trying to seduce someone. I'm cheering him on my living room. Like all this stuff like I really feel invested in his performance and I think that carries on into his other performances later in life. Once he leaves Dawson's creek behind. I think that's very important but before we leave behind. I WanNa just mention one scene which comes at the very end of of the series so at this point pay has been essentially in love with Jerry full literally ten years. He is kind of broken up about say they've at this point point they've been together. They broken up they go together. It's been a mess. You know that whole thing of just like trying to figure out yourself on another person and sometimes the two things don't match and so it's been one of those just one of those experiences where you kind of think. Well if we're going to do it they would've done it and it's not happening and that's fine. Whatever and so they come together? It's the final. Oh episode that. They've come together very sad reason. I think it's fine to spoil this now but JEN is dead and it is. I mean first of all fuck everyone on your decision the best and the best I won't know what jokes On you because Michelle Williams is that bit. Listen and listen and when that's a podcast or another fucking day in any case they're they're jen's funeral and the kind of in the kitchen together this point pace. He's working in a big city. He's working in Moskvy zone kitchen. Joey is out in New York doing Lisera Shit and whatnot which show Wino- and then they're in the kitchen and they just have this little moment and at this point you can tell going back to that feeling of therapy. Hera's a man who has worked through some shit and he's kind of like you know what I'm GonNa do is release myself off from a cycle of bad behavior. That is not advancing progressing my life in the way that I wanted to and I'm GonNa take some control here. I'M GONNA lay my cards on the table and then I'm GonNa retreat but it's not out of fear or cowardice in his purely for the sake of moving onto something bigger something other than this and. The scene is electrifying electrifying. There is a particular line which I'm sure you recognize it when you hear it but only God. Let's let's watch this. You're also what you're off the hook. I've never really put much faith in that. If you love someone set them free crap as evidenced by everything. I've done in my life up to this very moment but I am determined to be happy. Joy isn't happy in this life and I love you. I mean I I have always always loved you are but timing has just never been right and the way I figure it. Time is no man's friend so I I have to get right with that and be happy now because this is it. I mean this is a whole that we get just one thing I've learned from those Gen that's actually hold on. I'm not an because I also want for you to be happy really important for me that you have so I want you to be with someone whether it be Dawson or a New York guy or some man. You haven't even met yet but I want you to be with someone who can be part of the life that you want for yourself. Yeah I wanted to be with someone who makes you feel like I feel when I'm with you so I guess the point of this long run on sentence that's been the last last. Ten years of our lives is just the simple act of being in love with you is enough for me. So you're off doc. Okay so the simple act of being in love with you is in mother. What listen I have not finished Dawson's creek so I have not gotten all the way to that point? I knew I knew what would happen to dinner. And all that Esta so this is actually my first time hearing this. Oh I'm like wow almost want to cry and I have skipped like I haven't even gotten to the ship. His he's so evolved and he's so natural again that performs the when his voice cracks a little bit when he says I've I've been in love with I've always. Yes loved you and you kind of think he has. We watched it. He has always been in love. Joey you fucking picking up. How did such affection Joshua Jackson? Yeah the way that he imbues Pacey again and with that wisdom that he should not have But life you know kind of forces you to grow up a little bit less Just incredible work. Listen we spent far not long On pacey yes and there was so much most industrial Jackson but pacey was an outsize SORTA figure I think for me as a teenager. Anthony Cole has grown woman. I and we had to spend that much time because I also he's that is the bulk of so many people's that is a nexus of so many people desire for Jesse Jackson is imbued in this boy who for the longest time was a man. Yeah like in the shape of a boy. And there's something very adult and grownup about this character that we all recognize even then and that thing about it's very rare that you find somebody at fifteen and you see them at forty right and I think that speaks to how well ricin the carts will but also how well performed the carriages yes. I'm just I'm amazed like I said that I am watching this or that. I started watching it almost twenty years after it first aired and I am still in awe. couching isn't that lovely on a time. Tom Steyer talks voter turnout

"I start an organization called next Gen Emerica yes it is the large registering young you need to vote dot com you did seem to rattle much organization in the country and one of the things we did in twenty eighteen was we pick thirty eight congressional district held by Republicans and we focused on people under thirty five yeah and we more than doubled the turnout from four years before that's the largest generation in America bigger than the baby boomers they were voting at half the rates of other Americans we said in order for Democrats to retake the house we need this generation to show up yep and so when I think about why we flipped all those seats and those were the seat you know that we chose the ones that we thought were flip a bowl but we're definitely in play the answer's turned out there the number of Democrats who turned out in twenty eighteen to twenty thirteen with two thirds more I know you're gonna be a Chris Hayes later today tune into MSNBC to see Tom joy Reid was just on our show this week she has a new book out and she said we have minority rule in this country she said because we don't vote and white evangelicals crawl over broken glass to vote and that that is one of the I mean that's one of many factors but she's right we what was the turn out Travis was for white evangelicals it's close to a hundred percent of them turn it turned out and that's why we sing for us to win there are many more joys exactly right there are many more of us we need to organize and show up and that's what I've been doing for ten years we've been organizing people to be registered to be engaging the issues and to show up and vote and we've done that you know we I think when we focus on the huge percentage of Americans who don't vote instead of the very small percentage of people can't decide if they like Mr trump yeah we get all those people and that's forty percent of America not the two percent of campus I think our sense of urgency I think I have we both have fascism early warning systems in our blood we found out it on our impeachment but bill road show spontaneously the both of our dads were Republicans and Nuremberg prosecutors and John Cooper tweets history teaches us that wimps don't be fascists appeasement doesn't beat faster stronger McConnell the twenty twenty election will not be free and fair in fact they're counting on that I'm if there is a conclusion to be drawn from Nuremberg it's this when you see something really wrong you fight it every day you don't show up every six weeks or every six months and register protest you fight it every single day every time it rains it's ugly on your chairmanship yesterday talking about what happened part of what I found so powerful about his testimony today was not just when he was asked about the law but when he was asked about the affects the morality the lack of patriotism of this conduct and perhaps one of most chilling moments I think our committee was when he expressed the fear that this become the new normal and of course I think what is animating that fear of the director would certainly and that's it animated for me is the fact even after the nightmare of the last two and a half years the president of the United States will still not forswear receiving foreign help again hi okay so now how do you what what okay first of all what we do how do we get times are on the debate stage next time let's get him into the debate look up there to rules which what's website what we do Tom Selleck dot com and we have a little time start your dot com and give me a box and we have a link to that at your website and at your Facebook and Twitter pacey I did the show me the money yeah right you to help me help you I need a hundred and thirty thousand donations okay and so I'm asking people to give me a Buck to get me on the stage so I can make the case for taking back our democracy and actually speaking up for the people let the people relook at I this you for how many times I've asked you for money one time just do it let's talk about what first what would you do what how do you what is your strategy for running against trump supporters from call he will weird al look I think you can tell who is certainly I think I'm the perfect person to take this guy on the good twin comes to the economy he's a fake and he's a failure and I have no problem yeah people don't seem to feel comfortable I spent thirty years studying economics through investment and through looking at countries no economic system works he is a disaster in competent person I just had a like not moment I'm gonna be your campaign manager okay there was no but you and this is how you run against them calling us socialism personal I'm like why don't we ask them what about their party's drift toward fascism but this and you are the perfect I would call you a compassionate capitalist look so we can say we are not socialist but we are but but you know you do so much you give so much of your money there is a difference there is the pure greed of Donald Trump who's never done anything for anybody but himself but when you think about this Stephanie see if this works for you this analogy that I use sometimes I say look the United States is like a car we have democracy and we have capitalism a marker see is how we're supposed to steer the car and decide where to go the people get to choose right we get to choose what the laws are we get to choose what the rules are but the thing that is the engine of the car is capitalism and so that it has to be able to run to make us move forward but it can't steer the car yeah when the engine starts telling the car where to go you get what we have now which is the people's interests are being served but we still need that engine to go by so I don't hate the engine I just know this it can't run the car we can't have cook we can't have drug companies telling us what the prices of drugs are going to be don't you love how much they hate when liberals are going to capitalism we made the wrong kind of billion dollars the funny thing here is Mr trump has a operating procedure that led him to bankrupt all these casinos makes huge promises yeah he borrows money leverages it is a frightening it goes bankrupt and he walks away yeah and that's we're in the middle of him trying to turn the United States of America into one of these failed it Lennix thanks yes he is with the trillion he's whatever right that's who we is he's a fake let's talk about the five rights which you called the right to an equal vote the right to clean air and clean water the right to learn the right to a living wage and the right to health that sounds a lot talked about it because it sounds pretty good plan to me one of the things that is true is we talk as if this country were a failure with the most successful country in the history of the world yeah we can afford to put ourselves in a place that is better than any people ever we do have to take on these corporations and get back our democracy but if we do that we can afford healthcare for everybody we can afford a quality public education from pre K. through college with ongoing skills training we can afford clean air and clean water and we can afford a living wage for every working American we can't afford that right now we have the money we have to take back the democracy to do it but I'm saying that is a baseline of security for every American we're in a position to create unimaginably great times for ourselves we do have to beat these corporations and we have to control the climate yeah we've got to stop talking like we are succeeding this is the most successful country ever let's give ourselves some credit beat the challenges we need and let's win and make and create when Americans have always created the country in the world Tom and I I I so appreciated and resonated with what you did during this last election what you talked about earlier is with next Gen and need to vote about getting younger people excited and motivated I've been saying on this show I mean I'm old as dirt and I I am so inspired by the a season the receipt to leaves in these fears young women that we got into Congress that obviously terrify trump and the Republicans but I you know what it's like a see she seems like a flash from the future to me like I I you know she knows how to connect with young people on social media she makes me believe that we can do big things again look what we've talked to hundreds of thousands of young people and ask them why they don't vote and they always say the same thing the system doesn't work no one tells the truth neither party addresses our needs it doesn't make any difference and I'm like oh no yeah that can't happen that's the end of democracy if people have that attitude we need to go out there and talk about what can happen if we tell the truth if we go out and retake the government what we can provide in a way that everybody's life will be materially different and materially better and we're in a position to do that right now we just have to

"The mid ninety s if they're starting to be purity control troll issues I guess they call purity control issues when it's street level rather than like in a scientific lab but that's not necessarily as much of an issue in terms of long term harm cases but the serotonin something can be a significant issue is at least something called Sarah Toner gic neuro toxicity in tested this in animals and what it sounds like to me is that this it depletes your serotonin levels so much that it leads to dysfunction function in the Serotonin parts of your brain leads to pronounce reduction in Markers for Serotonin across higher brain regions and every study of heavy users of M._D. has found that they have a significant reduction in they're higher brain regions of this stop. The serotonin making neuro imaging shows us as well too so when they actually scan these people's brains they can see this. There's okay so that's the Serotonin up long-term term problem. There's also deficits <unk> retrospective memory which is your memory of things that happened in the past but also of prospective memory. which is your memory for the future so you remembering to remember something road? They've also found lots of varied results on this research because like I said earlier there's all these other factors at work right. Yeah I say basically you're messing with the cocktail of the brain the cocktail yourself and that's going to vary from person to person who's GonNa depend on usage history etcetera yeah like like we we said earlier with with people who are really into the dancing they may stay up later at night and therefore they have different circadian rhythms so if you're trying to analyze their retrospective memory or their sleep deficits or something like that you're going to get different. Results not necessarily be the M._d.. May and I think this is definitely important to keep in mind for anyone out. There who is considering trying it is that it's going to vary so somebody saying hey. This is the thing to do. They don't have your same body chemistry so they can't only only you can say for certain yeah yeah absolutely so on top of the memory effects. There's also known to be some cognitive effects as well. It seems to impair even people who are absent users who aren't using it anymore. It can impair your executive processing logical reasoning problem solving in the emotional intelligence in your brain however basic cognitive skills like reaction time or your attention levels or your vigilance. Those are not affected so this is what they know in terms of that sleep has also been slightly studied as I mentioned earlier there's some deficits in sleep architecture and sleep apnea but there isn't a ton of research and there needs to be more explored there can also lead to psycho motor impairments in children of women who take it while they're pregnant so there are known to be effects on children of of M._D.. Users and then there's one small thing a little bit of research done but she'll mention this in his journal report about the complex vision has he said his vision got better and there's there's studies about that and that there's evidence for that as well but also like I said earlier there's also evidence that it attacks the retina cells to so there needs to be more research which done in both those areas in terms of overdose and just key dangers do want to drive home again that environment plays into a lot of it. According to Psychiatrists Ingrid Pacey she said lead investigator in India a <hes> assisted therapy for treatment resistant post traumatic stress disorder at the University of British Columbia she says the N._B._A.. "You know in one guy's a little bigger. You know, he might have a bit of an advantage catch up with you. What is your training situation like these days? How do you arrange your camp? I live in Las Vegas. So I train here in Las Vegas. I work a lot out of you have CPI for like strength conditioning. It's kind of like a home base to hit mitts and stuff. But along with that my home base, as far as bodies team coaches and community go I'm as extreme Qatar, as well. My coaches are anti Barack oh, and then pacey hall said one out of ten planet, and Eddie is just like my coach, not really affiliated with the gym so like, I'm living extreme detail right now, but I'm going to the UFC performance institute and then later in the week, I'll go to ten planet to do some jitsu with protests that, so, yes, a little different. I think in Vegas people are you see it a lot with people is your left to being self motivated and then accountable here for your own schedule. Which that's great because he has an individual sport. And I've been part of a super team. Team for so long. But I didn't make my own schedule in my own time in my own coaches, I was just this was the coach this was the time these are the partners here in Vegas being a veteran and what you have CPI's allowed me and just what my, my compliments in the passive allowed me is I can get guys. And you know as far with two guys not full of fifty guys. I can get one coach and having a practice for me because I have a facility like the PI to do that. So I wouldn't say, I run my own thing, but I raised my own schedule, and then my coaches more Luke out for me from there. So it's kind of cool. I think it's the way MMA is kind of leading to your kind of doing your own thing. But I always have a team I have bodies and a great community around me, and extreme Qatar and the US CPI. But like it's one of those things in Vegas, here, you have to be self motivated that definitely no one, you know, thing on you and stuff everyday like you're in one place. You know you gotta go make all year round. And. Good for me. I've never had a problem with being self motivated and taking care of myself. I liked being my own person. How did you decide that those particular coaches? And this arrangement was the right one given that there might be other options inside Las Vegas. Oh, it was all trial and error. It was all trial and error like I've been coming back to, I guess, back and forth or eight nine years training here and there, you know, but doing my camps in Vegas did a few camps in Denver. So as all trial and error all I tell people and they moved down. I'm like, hey, you can practice ten times a day in Vegas..

"So then I went to the guide because I still capable in the last fifteen minutes dirty dancing, Ron, and so I watched them, and I was like, wow. I love dancing. I loved. I love big dancing numbers. I just love everything about this. I noticed in detail and babies dress that I'd never seen before watching with new eyes. And I was like I'm gonna keep this going. What else what I would tell feels like getting underneath a warm blanket and us creek. And so I watched the episode Florida Tango from season three. What happens? It's the end of pacey and Jen trying to have a sexual relationship. And it's it's the very beginning of pacey, and Joey like realizing they have a chemistry, and it's it's a Finnish up. So it's on my favorites. And as I was watching. I thought to myself I have checked out Tony Ortega's Scientology reporting website awhile, I need to. Yeah. And it's just like it's just a cloud over Katie Holmes. Like, what is up with this former scientologist, and what is she doing now? And I've got so many questions. I mean, I I would like to know at all, but he tell and I just I'm dying to know who or stylus if he or she was happy with this look or wanted to step his eyes out or her. It's so baffling. I will also say as Upper West side native, this is huge look for west ninth street. Lutely huge. I knew I had I known for other photos of where she lived. But if you watch the video in article you pointed to today, Jamie face having with her, and you can very clearly see the west seventy ninth signed behind heaven just like last the big time for the Upper West Parker. I think that I think she's seventy the west Antarctic and tell okay, that's great. Maybe Upper West side. Perhaps. It's mean that I've said that but in the video my fault. Yeah. It's true. I just I can't believe this. They're going public. I just like what if this was all mistake, these voters in the grace wetsuit or not mistake, this gray sweatsuit is it's you know, a different guy. We'll see we'll monitor the situation or so on top of it and other situation monitoring is the Royal baby situation in England, we are there soon to be a baby Sussex a lot. There's some feeling that perhaps baby. Sussex has arrived has just not been made public yet. Because Harry and Meghan signed an Instagram like, Harry, Meghan and baby in imprint and baby Sussex, which is like convoy before a baby is born. But like, maybe not at this point. Like, it's pretty real. It's it's quite large maternity leave. Yeah. Not gonna babies born we're gonna make. A podcast strategy. And and talk about it. Well, not the second. It's born because we may not know because they announced that they would be kind of taking some lifetime before that they made a public in order. They're not doing the thing that will. And Kate have to do where the baby is announced immediately like the side outside Buckingham Palace. And that we are town crier guy. I think has absolutely no relation to the actual real family. He just does that for kicks. But anyway, and she's not going to do the thing where she stands out in front of the hospital is cracked is my understanding. So we as soon as it's an outs as soon as we have information will will make a podcast plan. And we'll all be here with you gas. We will. Throw that out there a lot pacey worthy. Theses, you got a long way to shoot a little bigger. Yeah, you gotta crying face, good for you. Don't be don't come at Jordan.
