Pta's and students in in both those areas. kelly. Woody gov for your parting shots. So going into the oncology. Royal my biggest thing i always say. Is they symptoms. These side effects that these individuals are patients going through. They are common but they are not normal and they shouldn't have to live with these long term so common but not normal so focused on that and be educated to know the difference between common but not normal right. Aubrey and partying scott. Time for you got. These patients have come that we can address and Things that are going on with them are definitely things that we have. The skill set four and in terms of wounds. My favorite product is a silver silicone wound. Johnson even get over the counter at any major star. I like that i envisioned. I can still go back to the when you bring up wound-care rate so i like that. You're your parting shot so absolutely always my thing is that physical therapy should be part of the cancer care continuum and we should be involved these patients from the time of diagnosis through end of lights. Because we can help Cancer treatment cancer going through cancer is such a dynamic process so things vary as they go along treatment and we can address those things and we can help them to improve the quality of life and too slow decline and just just to do the best they can do as they go throughout. "Gustavo cow. I think your muted phrase just wanted to make sure they're so part of really your last chance for a mic drop moment and you'd want the audience to leave with and let's make it about. Let's make about anything you want. What would you. What would your parting shot. Might drop moment be clarence. You're up first so in inland with already been set tonight is just find your path get involved And that that looks very different so for me that was doing board of directors as a student but recognize that. There's only ten students of director spots and thirty thousand students so there is a wave unit in ball in ways other than national involvement state involvement involvement in your school. Make the profession better. Make us more accessible our patients in some way and s possible in many different aspects. Do not have to be a member of the students. Only board of directors. You don't be a member of your local chapters of board of directors. Just find your pet and get involved. Stick with the dedicate yourself to it and make this profession better than in already love that. That's a great party shopping. When when you were saying six need leadership need people and that's micro within a section but there's a lot of different ways i know we're talking about the student board of directors. Now but yeah. There's a lot of different ways that you can get involved. Kyle parting shot where he got force that you have a voice and i think that That as clearance to say get involved but get involved in and have a voice. I think that that's not only in your profession and in your clinic but definitely in the pta and In your community needs more you have an option to have a voice as you vote in Our nation's elections and you have a voice when you vote in. The students inboard elections this year. But you have a voice when you get involved and you network and you learn more about your profession and learn more about how you can get involved and All things that you're excited about about pt and all the reasons the you went to pt. School go to student. Conclave learn more learn more about those things that excite you learn more about how you can get involved so you can capitalize on that excitement to push us all forward of effort capitalize on this count saying art. Lynn party shot. What do you got for us. I would say. I heard a lot of my classmates and other people when i was getting involved early on was i'm just trying to graduate all involved later. I just wanna graduate school. Oh you're gonna graduate don't have to be top of your class In order to become a physical therapist but get involved early because those connections that you make super early make getting involved as a new grad or later on in your career an easy phone call away even if you only make five connections as a student at five connections that you didn't have before and people that are willing to help you when you are ready to take that step. Yeah that's valid get. It's it's it's it's making an investment in your career get involved early cassava. Close it out force for your parting shot today. Definitely i'm gonna. I'm gonna kinda follow lynn on that One thing i've always told my classmates we we think about what's the one year plan to your plan was beginning to. Pt school three or plant. Getting passing task getting boards exam results that we want But what are we doing right now. As a student the thing about our five fifteen twenty year plan the connections the network as a student. You have that opportunity just like we have clinical rotations. That take two different things so we can see different areas of these conferences. These networking opportunities are way for us to learn about our tried our community and share ideas things that we may have never been exposed to school at conferences. We can have that exposure and see where that can take us. It's going to be. That's going to be some something to pay attention to. Where can take you clarence. A great example of that on a whim. the guy goes from mrs to minneapolis. bold. I've got a parting shot. I don't usually do this. But i will say on november second with tomorrow being november third. Exercise your right to vote please do. I'll never tell you who to vote for. Make saving by exercising. That right i would love to see us. Cracks were cracking records with national student. Conclave involvement. let's break some voting records. Love to see that coming out this week. So clarence kyle salvo. "Right. Thanks to this guy. Ah Three PITCHERS WANNA Lebron. One of Anthony Davis in one area. It's really good to be an icon. Pretty good thing is to see you know just to see people that you know that I do in that kind of stuff all the quality of work that he brings to that environment. I also grew up in sports environment and I know sometimes physical therapists on the outside. Think more grand of that scenario that that situation got her and what it is. It's good to see that the quality is in man smack. It's not always there now. Thank you because like it's really cool to hear from like somebody who mentored you. You look up to so much to get that back as is humbling to say the least but I think from the outside looking in and I I've had some conversation students here at CSM already on the like the perspective of what they think professional sports careers. What it actually is can be very different in that bringing high quality care to professional sports is more challenging. Dan outsiders thinking they think it's as simple as like will you? Just this is what the research says. And you just do it. You don't necessarily appreciate all the other influences that are going into the athletes experience with their pain or with that game that night or their contract situation is a lot more that goes into those layers stuff that just don't see Saddam now and baseball long tradition right right Long tradition that the traditional sports medicine and set up one of the doctors there. When I was bringing these ideas you know I well I before I got there I was like. I'm not ready for this like I'm not. I'm not good enough to be in the major leagues with these guys in pieces. You know professional sports scores already. And when were you there when we was dodgers a coup that? Give me some place yet. So I was with the minor league system. Yeah which is Great. Sure what you're what years so too. Are you an internship with them? Yeah with their AAA team in Las Vegas which got me the regular job with the minor leagues. Oh two or three zero three or four and then came out to the mariners for five foresee upgrade anandas. Couple of those guys. Yeah Hall facing Israel. He had had a couple of heads. So you don't think your ready probably puppy ready. Get there you see that. It's it's to save the people the same stuff. Hud where you just want to be at the front ISSUR boom. It's twenty four seven job. We talked about last time at. There's no all you're constantly evaluating and having meetings and one hundred sixty two games in here. That's a couple of games face falls man even to start a mad. I'm looking forward to y'all star break like he's had fifty five game. Said you know like in Baseball. Relative doesn't seem like a lot. But that's a grueling Caesar. Yeah I ain't going nonstop since whenever since some summer league's going in so the dog days of summer. Rae as they say in baseball days January and February a number one number two seed playing last night most guys would probably just saying. Oh I can't wait till the gangs oversight. John Baby Yeah a school at school. What what what's it? Let's let's paint a picture foreseen right here so pizza pub nine essentially as the happy hour at At CSM most major events. And when you look at this House that make you feel seeing all these students here who were like putting on their own time during school taking their own time out to uh to come to Denver and and try to learn outside the classroom like has that make you guys feel as guys who are in the professional ready. I love it. It's so weird for me to be on this side of things when you know four or five years ago. Being on the other side is a student just like itching to get into the profession and like I just wanted to go go go. I think having done a little bit entry level teaching and helping out in the residency and fellowship. It's inspiring to see that. Every liars seems to want more and more for the profession and again you've seen it for twenty years but it seems like we're trending in the right direction individuals wanting to be involved always wanting to push the limits like you know. Unfortunately the financial aspects of our profession aren't rate as we know but to be able to see people that are willing to take the risk financially to benefit their patients in whatever setting it long-term jump in for a kid. Yeah gotTa feel good to write especially your educators. Well I'm in a position our so I've always thought of myself coalface person this turned that I learned from some of my mentor. Okay with me. You're in the trenches. Oh yes you got it on a word. Your your your elbows deep. That's where that's where we make our money right Aso. You want to be the person I get my job. I WanNa have a good workout. They can do that. So we also need to empower people so in the military words right. Yeah move up the chain of command a little bit to mobilize the masses become a leader. Hopefully try to incentivize. You know or give them some purpose. What what we're all doing and the way I look at it that we were all trying to strengthen society. That's how I look. Well said all like however you do it in whatever manner you and each one of us is our own vigil we need each other or we need our patients that other people on our level you know make those interactions and you hopefully strengthen society strengthen society as good You've done this before last thing with you on each episode real quick for each guest's Marty Schottenheimer this the parting shot raw tape. The world's leading kinesiology tape is bringing you your parting shot more than just a tape company. Tape and how you can apply with your patients at rock tape dot com slash medical as rock tape dot com slash medical. My party shot. Who wants to go first? If you want to go first. I've done this. I party I so really. It's like words wisdom if you were to grab the ear and every student here gaspare the background. What's kind of one sentiment? You definitely by if you're GONNA remember one saying this is the fake. My head still stuck around that strengthen society I like is could shop in each individual's unique only unique skill. Set me every individual. You can whatever man if you can't find somebody else that they can take find there. It is right there are European. You've done this before. Nope that's hard to back up. I could talk to. I said it before I think just like Stang passionate about a profession that you have such an incredible opportunity to touch patients. Lives and touch. Students lives or other professionals lives and help them grow and mature and live a different lifestyle than before they saw you. There's not a lot of professions like did y'all like that makes me give tinguely. I like that gentleman. I appreciate you guys coming out here in the middle of this chaos. People could hear it. It's even more chaotic than it. Sounds right now is I want to do. What's your party in your dot com shot? Read the book right now. Called Grit from Angela. Duckworth a great avenue. But it's definitely great. It's a good read and it goes back to that form the right talents. What you're born with times effort. Equal Skill Skill Times effort equals achievement and like its effort man. Like even. If you're born with I don't care you can you can his effort squared uneducated and. I made a math guy that someone told so. If you can't teach give ship and that's effort so man doubled down on that effort and it will pay off. It'll pay off man appreciate you guys coming out. "My life. There's some of the things that I find as humans or something that I deal with on a constant basis. They really get in the way. And they're just like I said they're small tweaks. Yeah stocks are GONNA come up be cannot stop. The people get upset like I want to control my thinking. Can't control your thinking. It's not love to be able to help people control their thinking but can't when they start to come up when you WANNA. Do you want to examine the evidence? What's your evidence fort with your evidence against it? Would you say to another person? What's the gray though? Survey your land. Yeah I think even just I like that taking the temperature. Just where are you? And what's a reasonable? What's a reasonable change that you think you can enact to changing your example from ten to a seven? That's pretty good. Yeah that's that's good right and if you can keep that up if you can go from seventy five well you know. That's that's another positive change but really it's like you said there's no magic bullet. There's there's no there's no There's a pill that's going to do this for you doing the work now and if you see you only get three right. You're that's the best you're GONNA get. Would you take three over a ton? Yeah I would. Yeah if I'm if I'm anxious about something. Thirty percent of the time. It opposed one hundred percent of the time to defend Golden. I'm I'm I can definitely do that. And also look at the ways. They were treating her like. Are we using half Jews Insurance? Can we say it another way like it'd be nice if I could get through my list? It'd be nice if I check off all the boxes. It'd be nice if I got one hundred on this stuff. I choose to study and that's a good choice and I should reward myself for that good choice because I don't have to study. Yeah mindset change just little words make a big difference. I heard a I saw one online one of the one of the good things I've seen on social media last couple of weeks. It said. Have you seen this. I'm not stuck at home safe at home. Yeah degree one. It's just changing the framework that you look at CNN. Beat it doesn't have to be a big chain. One I would say is just. Make sure you believe that changes that you're making right so if you're a person who tends to be typically hard on yourself typically critical of yourself. Go and be your biggest. Cheerleader is probably too big of a jump. All right so to go from your biggest critics your biggest cheerleader might be too big of a jump but if we can go from your biggest critic too. I don't know Oregon sit somewhere in the middle. That's an appropriate Joe. I do not as hard on yourself or you can look at a situation and go what. I did poorly. This is what I did good against them somewhere in the middle. I guess I'm not the worst person. Positive change positive. Exactly we just want to move in a good direction and resources that you suggest or your websites or different places that you typically send. Anybody is earning were that that you usually do that online or people that you read or follow or anything like that. I mean if you WanNa like deep dive into a of the stuff I mean. There's comes from a school of therapy. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Dole. If you were to just type in like cognitive distortions into Google you'll find a bunch of different things but one of the things that I always recommend a people's right down journal you're always a big thing and even if it's something that you do maybe like three times a week once again better than nothing. Yeah Right Right so journal and always a good thing or digging some time and being mindful right at the end of the end of your day sitting down and saying to myself what did I do well and what can I work. I work that I do bad. What's something that I'd like to see myself do differently tomorrow right and I think that those two but there's a bunch of different things you can do like. There's actually if you were to type in cognitive distortions into Google there's worksheets you can have like one of the worksheets that I've seen like it's kind of cheesy but there's like a picture of a judge and when. I said the examined the evidence like what's your evidence order sponsor evidence against the verdict right cheesy but it works if there's something that the struggle for you to do a good remind. Yeah I mean. I'm sure you had to do this throughout school. And I thought reflection and being kind of journaling was like the biggest pain in my ass. Because it's it's one of one hundred things you have to do. But I've noticed that my kind of reflection is having conversations with people like yourself like my friends my peers people. I really care or I respect their opinion. When they're they're truly listen. I can hear myself speaking a little better about the things I've done. Speaking a little bit less negative about the things that have happened so that kind of reflection is better for me for me. Writing it. Down doesn't work but setting aside some time to be mindful or at least say it out loud definitely makes me walking away from those conversations feeling good. It's your frank I can't tell you how many times in my day people be like. Wow when I say it allowed it kind of sounds ridiculous weird right. Yeah Talk to you about it. Talked to someone you try you like. What do you think about weight? It does sound ridiculous when I heard good points appreciate this. Look I think the tools and just recognizing the different things that we talked about today. That are out there that are affecting us that are affecting our colleagues are affecting our family that are affecting our patients pretty much affecting everybody. I mean right now. We're literally all this together in terms of the world. It's probably the one of the only times in the world that the world kind of is on the same boat is during something like this like a pandemic so I think we're we're all we're all feeling that I mean I think we all have The shared experience of experience. Does you'll barely very lonely right role that shared experience of being alone and being afraid? How can we work with that shared experience so it doesn't over want I mean? I know they use the term socially distant I kind of heat terms. Yeah because I think it should be. We should be physically distant right where we should be socially connected right. I like that into little mindshift changed little word change like that. Richard Stranger little bit screwed away. But we can talk to people like Jamie. I appreciate your time for people who like to hear. Jamie and I talk about different stuff. We actually launched a different podcast. That has nothing to do with physical therapy. But it do with psychology Jamie and I have a show called cinema psych. You can find an itunes on spotify on Google. The whole nine and We take a look at some of your favorite movie characters and you treat them like Kinda like psychological examples. Are you know we treat them? Treat them like psych patients where we look at the different things that they do. You talk about real life examples of why that character. Why the person would do that. And how we can relate that to our own lives so new episodes coming out whenever the hell we get around to it whenever connect whatever whatever life allows it. We've got about five or six up there right now. We've got Darth vader. We've got some Bob. We've got. Who Else Luke skywalker? And we have our exports from fatal attraction of their one of the most out. Yeah so check that out. Love your feedback on that Jamie. Appreciate your time. We'll have you back pretty soon. We'll talk more psychology and how we can just kind of use that branch of science in our own Rehab World both older people that work with. "Would the people who are helping to decide when we should discharge patients award with some level of function so that we can increase the throughput because we had hundreds if not thousands? Intense side of the hostage. So so this is part of our Rosen. And I think today's moving forward. We have to just put that. We don't just were not just involved in Noncommunicable diseases and lifestyle we're involved in the entire continuum of care and health and they did a third one. I would like to think about is if you are not a disaster medicine individual person. You're not interested. Think about how you in your own community can reach out and provide some advice. When I'm thinking about I mean as I sit here in Durham North Carolina. Within about half a mile from here is Long Term Care Facility. You know I haven't done it yet. Shame on me but I should be reaching out to them saying you know. Can I have a little killing? Have a little talk about you. Know maybe maybe I could do or alongside of students who might be interested who I can get on the thruster naked. We can tree an exercise protocol program. Follow up things for persons so that they're not just sitting. You know being worried you know. Increasing their chests rashly. Feeling that they're they're they're actively involved in reducing the threat increasing their own function and improving health the nation. Well down the other thing you mentioned is like you said what am I doing? The same healthy honestly what? I'm doing to stay. Healthy is being involved in sharing my expertise. I wouldn't say a lot of other areas of clinical practice and the Nakajima by not the expert in this particular case after twenty years. I think I have something to offer. And there's a group of US around the world who are doing the same thing I'm doing in the United States in the United Kingdom and Australia and Canada experienced. "That is beyond what's in your head and that that's a great podcast. Something else business wars which is now. It's an interesting podcast about two companies in the same industry whether it's eight Ibm and Microsoft or Hershey's and Mars right and they they talk about the evolution of those businesses Side by side. And how how they you know one one will take over more market share and how? The business responded very interesting. You know to to to learn about these. You know really well known companies that a lot of us have just grown up with whether it's apple IBM or even nets lex versus blockbuster drain these these things that you know. You don't really know the backstory behind and again. I'm always amazed at at these huge companies that are multi billion dollar. A year revenue companies. That back in the day when you know fifteen years twenty years after their they were formed that they are on the door of failure and There is something that needs to be. accounted for at that moment by their CEO or by their board to resurrect the company. Shift that shift focus of the company. It's very interesting to me how these companies have been able to do that. Yeah if you're if you're listening to any of PODCASTS. At Brian just mentioned if you follow got him Gary Vasicek listen the information out there that you would probably get from an NBA. I'm not saying don't get an MBA. But there's so much that you can glean from free resources like podcasts. And all the ones that you just mentioned are fantastic. I hadn't heard of the last one but I'm going to but I mean guy rows exactly taking through the course of a business that you know and you're like well. Yeah they've just always been successful will know at one point you know Airbnb was was was going to be something completely different and then they just made a reaction and you can learn so many lessons from them. Even if they're as you said not in your industry these are these are business. These are people reactions to To issue so Well said third question on three question is who question the Aku. Some in the audience should know more about. Yeah you know. We talked a little bit about social media and and physical therapists and PT. Business On social media. There's a couple of guys that that I've really latched onto Ones on facebook name is Anthony Morio. Yep probably spelled it incorrect incorrectly but anthony started a facebook group. That really helped. I think it's called mostly cash-based. Pt's with the Medicaid Medicare credentialing. It helps people navigate Medicare credentialing and Medicare issue and he's done a very good job with videos and explain the whole pico system. And how you all and they do eight fifty five B Than Ours I. It's really you know I think for someone that even considering venturing off into a Medicare Revenue Stream I. It's definitely you gotTA check it out. 'cause he the way he lays out answers to questions is really straightforward. Yeah and he. He's self admitted someone who was quote not good at a lot of this stuff in terms of like has he does a lot of content creation as well and watching say. I need to be good at this. And the only person that's going to help me he just went and learn stuff. Yeah that's how you have to do it all the time. You know I said to him you know man. I wish she were around ten years ago. 'cause would've saved me a lot of time and that that's really what it is that time figuring out things and what you know. How do you know what don't you know? The other guy is on instagram Jerry. Durham PTA. At Gerry Durham. Pmt Jerry He I believe you own a couple of outpatient orthopedic clinics and he has been shifted sort of business consulting What I like about Jerry is. He didn't he's not about the clinical side. Necessarily not about you know. Do these exercises. And the you know blood flow restriction and all that stuff. He's about the client experience. And what does it mean for a new clients new patient that walks through your door calls? Your Business. What how do you really nail every point about interaction as a as a PT business owner and he will stay that your front desk is arguably the single most important aspect of of your pt? Because if they're not converting on calls and burning on emails whatever your system is you're losing business and he has really nailed a lot of What I feel is is really important about owning a PT clinic. Is that the whole client. Experience Young Jeffrey's Song from Jerry would be nodding along from when you're saying that you're you're you're answering the phone he's like yeah or your craft that email down to the comma. Yeah it matters Zachary it absolutely matters and people you know. Clients prospective clients. They can tell the difference you know. I think he really has helped a lot of a lot of clinics understand that and really sure out a lot of their their front desk process And and help them. You know essentially convert more finance. Yeah well said three questions you off the hot seat three questions brought to you by Arias medical staffing again if you are free to move about the country with that. Pt License. Arias can help you do that. A. U. R. E. US Medical Dot Com and one thing that comes up as well if I have a license but I wanna go different state. How do I do that? They've got people that can help you. Navigate that if you're moving from one state to another short term assignments or taxes or housing. They've got people on board. That can help you do that as well but unit for more than two decades. They'd like to help you check it out right now so check them a you are a US medical dot com that is a you are a US medical dot com lasting with you on the show. Brian is the parting shots. Drop moment like what would you want to be on your your PC tombstone for the professional to remember long after you're gone? What's your parting shot? You know I I started this business because like a lot of therapists out there. You wanted to have a better way to practice your profession to really affect people's lives one on one and you know we we are always looking for. Pt's to work with us whether it's a side hustle or something you know more more steady I if I if I didn't have a good network of people around me. This would never be acceptable. So I'm just really thankful for my wife giving me that that support initially and the people that are working with now not only love working under this model but I am so thankful to them because you know I. It's not a one man show it's a lot of like minded therapists that are enjoying this model And helping it all work. Yeah it's where people people where people business and we solve people's problems with people solutions way to do it absolutely Concierge physical therapist dot com and again on Instagram at concierge physical therapists. "Forward Even on are are just simple communication ways with our list-serve and that sort of thing so we probably are a little more grass roots in terms of like how we involve our members. But that's that's what you do when you're small St Louis and this will help that. Grassroots is now it's a national like it's a national unified thing to rally around and get similar similar with yourself. Yes I think one of the things. Is WE HAVE NEXT COMING TO ARIZONA COMING UP in June? So we're very excited about that. Lead that same sort of hip Nice Valley of going on and and moving that forward into the new year. So we'll rock right into the centennial. Very excited about having next. So the the look the messaging something to rally around a lot of those things are intangible now we have an actual tangible thing being built around a lot of ideas that are coming to fruition where this is not what it looks like right now. This is not this architectural rendering and actually the actual plans. We're building a new headquarters on thirty thirty Potomac Avenue so when you get to the seventh floor of this you still have a riverview. The top is an area for events and board meetings. The ground floor is member facing so any member can use this this building. This is the EPA members investment. We looked at renovating our our existing properties. The three buildings that we own on in Alexandria we had a member group advising us about the investment that we were GonNa make their and the opportunity to relocate. Came up as a part of that investigation. And we're going to end up with double the asset that we had and an half of the dead and just some people would think that we were real estate geniuses but and some people say it's dumb luck to to have have gotten to where we are with this thing but we've already paid off the land we. Without increasing member dues we have very strong financial position thankfully because of the the wisdom of the leadership of the past who invested in those three buildings in the equity that we had so we we started talking to outselling our current properties and then the city of Alexandria chain rezoned it to mixed-use property so the sale value of our existing properties went way up and then once we located where our future property is a small little company called Amazon decided to become our neighbor so Amazon. You say Amazon. That's how you get one of these in twenty four hours or so that we floors here. We'll be rental. So we can generate non dues revenue and the price when Amazon came to town for that rental property just went up crime but none of this will be on our of our members. This is All by the time we open at the first part of twenty twenty one seventy percent of this building will be paid for. Wow so we're thrilled. Maybe we just want to focus on real estate. We're pretty lucky reality. Show these ICS together house flipping also H. E. P. We could do some home. How to fixations at bone here guys? It's much better than insurance. Reimbursement has yeah. Yeah so things come on a lot of new a lot of a lot of different stuff. This is the parting shot. The poorly shot is brought to you by rock. Tape tape is more than just a company. They are a movement company bringing you not only the world's finest kinesiology tape but movement courses to help you get your patients moving stronger longer. Rock pods and rock floss again. Rock tape dot com slash medical. That is rock tape dot com slash medical. So we got a few minutes seconds left and I wanted to brass with something going forward so something. You're looking forward to in terms of exciting in the future. It's going to be different for all of you but something On my show a college your parting shot but you get to give give alas your soapbox moment or your words of wisdom is as these people in our profession. Go Out and learn this weekend and then go out to help people. What would you want these people to To hear from you. But you're motivating words. I'm putting I would say that. This is a great opportunity. Three states coming together. This is a unique situation. I'm hoping that this becomes a future model for. Pta meetings that we join together. This is a great opportunity to learn what's going on in other parts of the country other states we can share information. This is a great opportunity to network and meet New People We tend to be somewhat confined to our geographic area. And hopefully a meeting like this will open. Many doors were stronger together as as a group as opposed to individual components and I'm looking forward to the interactions the great programming and and and really getting to know my neighbors a little bit. Better perfect. Great that would he got your parting shot engagement so when we think of the side for engagement and I think this is like you've said Chris a perfect opportunity to get us all the same page engage together. Perhaps they know this continues. This convince all things happen on the cocktail. Napkin was though John and I came about at a leadership meeting. Apa We're sitting across the table from each other. And and I had the idea you know we should do something together two years ago and sure enough here we are so there's a lot of opportunity we just have to reach out to each other and make it happen. The best conversations do happen. Happy Hour what do you WANNA leave? The the audience was the charge out of this room. And you know talked about a lot of challenges. Her profession is facing and truly. I feel like we need to reframe that. They've got to flip it around because every challenging time some amazing things come from it and so when we're talking about innovation we're talking about how what might physical therapy looked like in these next two hundred years. There's some cool things. People are talking about this conference but I think the ideas haven't even come to us yet and so we focus a lot on. It's it's easy to focus on these challenges and boy. This is just going to ruin the profession. Think we just need a bit more cocktails? You get more cocktail Napkins it. Either I think this is a great opportunity for students. This is a great. You know the future of this profession is resting on your shoulders and we really need the next generation to step up the plates and start address helping us address the issues that we talked about today. Because it's you that we depend on and if we lose you in this profession. We're not going to last very long. We need to work together with the students figure this and no pressure no pressure just to piggyback on that they know we have a lot of individuals of of you know they raise their hands and different levels. So perhaps no introducing yourself to a student's introducing those people that you do not know in extending a hand aren't Sharon throughout our profession and I appreciate that Tricia that we have always risen to the challenge when wartime is where I roots are the polio epidemic. We rose to that public. Challenge societal crises. This opioid epidemic were rising to the challenge changes in healthcare delivery. Our profession meets society where the needs are. And when I look out into this audience you are a PTA everything that you do within your communities and in your practice and in your academic programs on a daily basis represents who we are and what our strengths are to the public. So I couldn't be more enthusiastic. I attribute Abtei to something like Maserati people who left us this incredible vehicle. We can either wrap our hands around the wheel and drive our car. The AP TA is the vehicle that allows you to drive this profession into the future. You can either sit in the passenger seat and let somebody else drive. Sometimes I'm afraid some of our colleagues in the trunk because they don't even know where we're going but Abtei gives you the opportunity to get behind the wheel and drive this profession this vine vehicle that we've been left by those who pave the way before us to continue to drive it into into a wonderful bright future Lonzo. Thank you for your membership. Thank you for being here and being engaged in your profession. The meeting is going to be great. I can't wait to hear the Ted talks today so I'm thrilled to be here. What do you got last thing like your last sentiment that thing you wanna leave the audience with wood? Oh was there any underlying message in your ninety seconds speech at the At The Australian. After you when you thanks mom and dad was there any like Underlying tone or well actually the the under the underlying message that was I think when I was accepting both awards I felt very unworthy. I was like guys everyone can do what I do. Because there's nothing special about what I do other than I just soap problems. That aren't necessarily mind to solve and I think that that's the message we need to keep putting out. Is that the only reason these problems that I sold out being self this because no one views it as their job to sell them. That's the key to innovation. Is when when you find a problem that everyone says not my problem going fucking solve that problem. And you'll be viewed as an innovative and and it's not always even the odd. It's just that no one ever viewed as a problem so it never got sold those are the gaps and so it's really really easy. It's really really simple to be an innovator. You just find one of those problems and you fix it. So that's my potting shed. I guess you literally wrote a book on this of how people mess this process up. Do they aim to they? Aim at the fancy solution. Not The problem. Is that Kinda I read your book? I mean that's one of the things I got. Yeah I mean I think one of the ways to mess it up absolutely is to just think the whole Vance and all your problems and not actually speak to the people that you try to help the other way to mess it up is of course to dream too big to be like. I'm going to paralysis right rather than saying. I'm going to help that person over that because that person has his frog selects playing video games but has his struggles as well and I'm going to get to know him. I'm going to get to know the struggles on. I'm just GonNa fix his struggles because I got to know him and I like him and he's a beautiful person and he deserves to have his struggles picks and also you're in the best position to solve. "Of the extra clinical need-we was talking about wh what people heard over the pub. And if you heard go to Rehab you did if you don't you didn't. The same could be said for physios or for healthcare providers working in a system. If this is what we do. You'RE GONNA continue to do that over and over again. It's it's culture exactly and so I guess way to guy from what we should've tried to do the This research shows that clinically. It's really important to base what happens to be out after surgery on a clinical decision rather than a business incision inside guests. What we hope to see? Is that private health. Insurance will also support systems. Which get people? Haven't it's cheaper for them. It patients that just as this happy with them and its shape for the system and so that's what we sort of really trying to push his pain. With with saying development of some of these programs with it array demagoguery Things different tap patients but still sip in the right direction. And I know you approach this from a purely scientific point of view but did you have a guest. Did you did you. I have a feeling before you started this. If it was going to go one way or the other and if so which way like a thought that patients might get back to sag go back to work quicker but then I'll say new the reality which is it's a big operation. Often people would book they lays before surgery side. That didn't really matter the the ladies you're saying get back to work faster. If they did impatient outpatient I would have thought maybe if there was going to be any difference I would have thought it might would have been for the inpatient physios directly after like a they got back quicken at the very beginning. We actually looked at that as well and there was no different in in return to whip Tom or anything about that. Either I mean gay by my guess was probably that particularly at six months They wouldn't they wouldn't be difference Ryan probably also at ten weeks at the ten week. Ma Maybe it's a two week one like mark but anything else. I didn't ask about or anything else that you wanted to mention on behalf of your team that helps you work on this as well. Now look obviously a big big thanks to the team. As of as we said in the pikers miss stuff be done by often. Had great support from vizier. Ceram replies at different hospital suit and I really stuck to the protocols and that's really important when you're doing trials have squeaky clean and across to make sure everyone's break race different decimates the same way because that's really important and that's really important any gutting four to have something published and publish. "What I loved about. It is the comedy and how she got into comedy and what I love about. It is the growth in women. I also watched Ruth Ginsburg documentary. Henry just walked out. Yeah I watched it on the plane and what I loved about. Both of those is the progress women have made and these key people not that she was a key person but I mean in the show what she made for what she did for women and what Ruth Greensburg has done for women And for minorities parties and discrimination and all sorts of things and I. I'm just that Ruth Ginsburg probably made more of an impression but it starting with Mrs Mazel. I thought at first and then I saw Ruth Ginsburg Berg. Yeah Tory R. G. but yet the the fact that there is a now a female lead character. WHO's actually funny? Which is somewhere that female characters ears are definitely lacking in good to see those things and the notorious our BG that documentary definitely? Watch that because there's some stuff I didn't know about and stuff. That was yeah. It was great great. Last question on three questions is who is someone. The audience should know more about. I'm going to tell you. I think you should know more about Angela Campbell. She became president of the cardiopulmonary section. She has been go-getter behind the scenes forever. But she's a driving force in the cardiopulmonary section. She has ideas all the time about growth and her plans for growing the section and growing people in the section so one of the things visit. She's expanding the Committees to have like twenty people on him to try and include more people and get more involvement and more say where instead of of having one person giving the say wore these up and coming cardiopulmonary. PT's are going to be more involved in the section so Angela Campbell. She's educator at Springfield College. She's also a board certified clinician and she has never ending energy. "Can cause I look at this and from what I hear from you. Frequency intensity and timing are important. And we haven't yet dialed. Those things is in for pitcher current. Look at that look at that. I hope you do because unfortunately when we write for the things that the Lancet to have a particular style but I actually really important that physiotherapists on the ground understand trials and and understand what we're trying to shave with these studies because together we creating really important evidence then send really important informational onto pene seat Shah guidelines. I think you highlight something. Good right there where someone like myself. Who doesn't participate in research If I read this I might have got to the point where you said. Patients came out worse early mobilization was ineffective and I'm going to throw a hand and said well that's not good either. Don't do it or that. The study was wrong right. That's what we always liked to think when the study doesn't match our preconceived bias. What I think is most important? Is that you say that. The intervention is powerful. That should be the thing that we focus on. Now you dial in frequency intensity in time yeah correct and that's what we're doing the final studying series a siphon old way because I really think we gonNa mail at this time. It's different design in fact thinking about this. I'm not sure how the new design on which is an adaptive trial design will be interpreted it. It's GONNA be. We have to educate people about because I have to be very educated. uh-huh on what we've done is we've taken information from this study from both the usual care group and from the early intervention group. And we don't got into this frequency amount timing issue and from that we looked at where the pockets of benefit And and WHO. We seem to be most likely to be able to help with an intervention that is potentially more more protocol than individualized so. That's not to say we're not yours. Still have to have the into the individual approach. But let's say so. Fold these snakes study. We actually have a four different treatment arms that combined different combinations of intensity frequency and amount mount and we are going to run the study over time and as we get the outcomes for those patients at three months then in overtime to the close and it will leave us. We've control I'm or referenced. Sam and the most beneficial intervention. It's a bit uncomplicated. To explain a hype. I've done a reasonable job of saying we start with full. We ended up with two and one of them is going to be the Weena that Hopefully we'll be. Have we come to a protocol that he's going to be suitable for large numbers of patients in lots of different countries. Around around the world so that it can help physio therapists and nurses know what to do. We've paper with acute strike. I could fall the playoffs. It's the semi finals and finals of any sports. It's play offs. There's one winner and the end we will. We will have a champion. You are now on my speed. Dial for for anything stroke related related. I'm coming to you. I oh good. I'd love to talk to you more about. It's my favorite topic. IBM Wake up to thirty years. And I have not ever lasting Hasim. Hasn't for trying to champion change for people with strike. Yeah you can tell just comes across in your voice and like how you break this down again like you know when when when and Pedro reached out and asked me to talk to the people involved in the top five trials over the last five years I was a little bit. I got a little sweaty palms because I am. I going to understand this stuff. And then there's people people like you the researchers behind this this work you're passionate about it and when you're given an opportunity to explain it you guys wind up explaining it really. Well that's good. Would and you know we. You can't do trials Charles People Sport they really are. It's a contact sport. And I. I wouldn't do you study if it wasn't an important question to the people who felt it was important. It's important to the patients and their families but it's also important to therapist purpose and also to the nurses who get involved so it's important to them to know what's going on which is great and then we help work with them and design on the studies and then they give their old really into this trial. I think what what your you're talking to different trials who have been table two and fortunate enough to work with very passionate other physiotherapists from around the world who create a really high quality study. And they do that because they've really Kane and really passionate about the topic and so it very much is a contact team sport and each credit to everyone not just the people that designer while said for the audience wanted to reach out to you. Is there a good email address or social media handle it you you directly to two. Yeah I'm actually on trial. Which makes it pretty easy to find me on twitter? So they're very welcome to reach out to me. We're also have a new trial which it was actually cold of the dose which is determining the optimum intervention the people would strike that studies Najib's dotted and. "They are just really have just sort of waited on disability. Tell them what the time area medical diagnosis here. And there are lots of reasons that happened in the fact is is that therapists need to be able to understand how to identify a primary medical condition and being in your part of that you know disciplinary and then last night we had them webinars in schools on the quality reporting program and understanding those uh-huh metrics that cms is going to be watching. I'm a firm believer that therapists need to understand. What are those quality measures? That make here says they're going to be watching watching to see if providers are using the right recipe it services so to speak in order to achieve a good outcome and then lastly I think last after the minute ago but we have four really cool out there. That therapists can use to show the value of physical therapy on patient Asian population so we have some one pagers. That focused on the research of how can improve outcomes and reduce I falls. We have one Patriot showing the research that to support fat. Physical therapist can help providers reduce their rehospitalization right. We have a one pager. That show how early mobilization and You know making sure that patients are getting the right. Intensity of therapy can help patients. Larger trajectory of health outcomes and then we have a one pager that walks a therapist through the decision making process of when my group therapy be an important to add up and addition to individual Eric. And how to make that decision. Because under the patient's payment moderately Medicare change the definition of group therapy and are allowing therapists. More flexibility to use it. Now what we don't want to see is that providers go in there and just tell the look you're going to do twenty percent growth everyone's On every patient that's not a thoughtful application of clinical modality and so did tool is intended to help therapists manage edge that and be able to termine went into clinically appropriate to do boost therapy. And when is it not and we're not inside I am to use it. How do I structure structuring highway? Four it sounds like you guys put a lot of thought and effort into this and I want applaud you guys for that. Here's what I took away from that. Make sure you're educated because right now as you reiterated that I mentioned at the top of the show. There's a lot of people talking for for good reason about PD PM and PD GM. This is going to possibly Sibley affect their lives and you should know all that you can but make sure the things that you know are the truth. This way the Medicare system and the respective payments and the Post Acute Care World and that keeps chair I mean skilled nursing facility in patient rehab long term care hospitals and how those systems How are our needs to be overhauled? They are not working. There is a lot of The cost of Nis settings is just going up and up coming up in the system cannot carry that burden for much longer so there needed to be a change and that change has been discussed and piloted you did and research for at least five or six years now and Abtei were in on those discussions from the very beginning they have. CMS His ear ear and there were on technical expert panels and there were there gave feedback to cms and worked along the way in the process. DOC that developing these models now they may not be perfect and we may a therapist. We may not have gotten everything that we wanted in creating these remodel.
