Toxic Relationships - burst 02

"But for me, I think a red flag is something that a lot of people ignore and I think it's important as Britney said, I had a very short relationship in between the two bad one and my good one. And I just knew pretty much off the bat. I didn't think it was going to be for me because of all the red flags that I normally choose to ignore and that in the last relationship I chose to ignore because I really, really wanted it to work out. So I had selective seeing selective hearing selective feelings and I tried to suppress the things that weren't going right. Looking back on it, I think that was the biggest mistake I made. "Good morning ladies and gentlemen. He is dealing. I'm sean. this is the drop zone and we don't have a lot of professional gulf to talk about. Pj to or had an off week. The european tour had on week. Even though a pga tour player won the tournament billy horseshoe wins the bmw pga. We got two ryder cup. Teams filled out euros. They they added three wildcard. Picks two captain's picks whatever. You wanna call them. Padraig harrington selected the old guard in addition to shane lower he selected sergio garcia and ian poulter. Justin rose on the outside looking in dylan before we jump into what we're really talking about today. Tell me is padraig right wrong. Middle ground what. What did he do with these picks. First of all sean. I hope you enjoyed your pga tour off week because that was actually the off season. That was the whole deal. that's it. i hope you feel rested up. Yeah as far as as far as padraig harrington there will come a day when this recipe doesn't work where taking some combination of you know. British forty three year olds is no longer optimal strategy. But we're not at that point yet today. Today's not this day so yeah he did the right thing he did the right thing. Justin rose been planned a little bit better. They probably could have you know happily had him on the team You know. I don't know if if burned vs burger could feel tangibly that most of team europe was rooting against him. But you know hopefully not is that true or is that some kind of weird thing because when you follow gulf twitter it sounds like everyone was against burns burger being on the team. Why why why would that be. The guy is clearly good enough to be in the discussion. Does justin rose to be on this team that badly. I think it's because they wanna they just like getting the band back together. They really they really just like that main squad and they want their sort of starting with the team and then hoping that the team fits into this. The point system you know. Yeah but you know what's going to work out. The fact that burns burger will not play the first the first Set of matches guarantee it right now. He will not be out there. He just won't be and that's okay. Like remember their twelve people on these teams and eight of them. Play at any given moment. And there's a lot of jockeying for okay. You need to get ready for the afternoon. Like people forget that. Chris would who automatically qualified for the the hazeltine european ryder cup team. Two thousand sixteen. He played two matches the entire ryder cup. He did not play on friday all. He played saturday morning and he played the sunday singles and the europeans like main horses are really really good and i think this is actually kind of a good thing for them. They don't have to rely on getting all twelve guys out there for two matches before the sunday singles. I've argued this with you..

"Good question. I actually haven't looked at his recent success at torrey. He's a guy always look at major's though especially at of course like this because he will Play for pars. Yeah so yeah. I'm gonna have. I'm going to have to look more at leash man. I haven't gotten into that here of guys yet. But i i imagine he likes justin rose and louis. I think those guys who will end up my car somewhere. Yeah just just just curious because it's one of those things where you just like you look and you say like man. Is this one of those one of those times where you know is they're actually going to be a bomb win here. That's one of the things that we don't see very often either right is just like it tends to be the cream rises to the top here. So we'll see our guys so let's let's move on as we as we talk in here who are dudes. Let's not talk about outright. Plays in the pod with those brennan. Who's going to be in your player pool of call it. The you know the top you can bet top forties now the top forties top thirty top twenty something like that like guys that you feel like are set up fairly well for a solid performance but not necessarily guys that you think are going to go out and win the damn thing. I mentioned justin rose. Excellent forms seems to figure figured out the equipment issues or whatever was going on with him last year plus four hundred top ten plus two hundred top twenty. I think he's in for for another good finish here. Louis i just mentioned i'm done sleeping on louis at majors. He's he's brooks without the superiority complex. He just shows up for events that he cares about any grise way into contention with steady. Play off the tee so he does not have the distance. But louis stays i think is is in for a top. Twenty here is well. I mentioned shane lowry. I need to look at that one a little more like i said i just worry that him. I'll i'll i can go ahead and add him to the bucket. I have a. I have a. I have a top thirty top twenty on him for this way and yeah i mean look three top. Ten finishes in in three of his last four starts including four at the pga championship. And we keep telling me these guys. That are just steady eddie and like i said i read office stats and none of them. Jump off the page but when you compare him to the rest of the field he's better than the majority of the rest of the field in most of the categories that we're talking about that. We liked this week and yeah. He's not fifth in any of those but he might be nineteenth. They might be twenty-second. He might string all of those things together. You've just got a pretty solid frigging player. Top to bottom so yeah. I don't necessarily think he wins. This thing but gimme a top thirty top twenty on him. Yeah i can get behind that. I just worried about the price is the. Are we getting a good price is the only thing. He's he's certainly safe to finish to make the cut and finished top thirty but are we getting a good price on it. I'm i'm not sure. So that's what. I'm gonna have to take a look at other than that..

"Twenty-five but he also has a t to and that t- to just happened to come in this year's version of the farmer so zander's an interesting kind of test here as well a guy who knows the course very very well has struggled here earlier on but his most recent finish here was a t- too so he actually did have success whenever he played this course. Then you have justin thomas who has done if you look at the underlying stats here. While the success has not shown up in the results he's actually got fairly decent advanced but his putter has completely and totally left him and he has just left stroke after stroke after stroke after stroke on the green which we know can absolutely kill you especially at a. Us open colin more cala. Probably the most consistent iron player. There is on tour that again at age twenty four. He's already won a major. He's already won a w as well so if we're talking about a guy that's actually gotten it done. Unlike a guy. Like victor hoffman who. I continue to bet every single week. It seems like that he plays in just doesn't get to the winter circle for you. Great guy for a top ten for top twenty. Bet maybe not your average. Maybe you're not. You're just outright bet. And especially at twenty five to one and then of course. There's always tony fee now. We're talking about not getting to the winter circle for you. Twenty fee now sitting at twenty five to one breath. I wanna go back to you. Because you and i had a quick little back and forth just off off air about justin thomas it's tweeting wanna bet. Mgm there's even longer odds if you search search and other places on justin thomas. The approach numbers are there. The off the tee is not as good as it's been in the past for him but it's not terrible. A lot of the other stuff is really there outside of him. Just being literally in this is not saying this for hyperbole literally one of the worst putters here of the last two months on the pga tour way down like one hundred forty something in as far as putting goes for him. We you and i typically don't measure putting a ton in our handicapping because we know people get hot with the putter any given week and as long as you can run hot you can win a tournament but when you do have to month to month sample size like do jt. I'll admit it gives me a little bit of pause. Yeah that's fair. But this is this the situations i think where i'm just betting the number when when when was the last time we got justin thomas at this price and a major. It's it may never happen again. He finishes good in this one in. Don't you wanna be on it when you can get a price like this. The discrepancy between rahm at his price and thomas week is astounding to me. I don't understand it. So yeah my money will be under shambo. The top i think also about on thomas just because how do you not bet him at this price. The guy so streaky. To he can he can he can find it and we even see like even during the process tournament day today he can have it one day and then not have it the next day make the and then on saturday he shoots a sixty.

"Information and commitment date requirements for all of events on the calendar as you mentioned. Dj takes up a lot of pages in this thing because there are so many pga tour events we breezed past it. But i had the I didn't even realize the field size. It shrunk on the opposite field events. That's a that's a a kudos decision. I think that that's literally recruiting layer. Exactly like look at the bottom of some of those like that's where you really the the eligibility and priority ranking stuff starts to get a really good workout when you start filling up those things so fewer players in that. It's probably good feels death penalty adjacent. They were calling cepeda Pj championship us open winners. Prior to one thousand nine hundred seventy to see if they get cut to get it also thought the the definition of. Hey what's the pga tour event co-sanctioned event what's a collaborative event. Or like there's there's four or five different levels. They're like you've got to like the shootout for instance and how that factors into the career money list and the fedex cup list and all that stuff is on probably honestly too complicated really go through or you know it's not. It's not huge to your viewing experience a lot of the stuff not huge to your viewing experience but you know what else is not huge the dues and fees related to the pga tour players initiation fee. One hundred dollars. We're going to get to the bottom of this which was Ex is giving away sixty million dollars to these players but if you are not eligible for that unless you pay your initiation fee to the tour which is one hundred dollars you gotta have since. Get in the game man. Not only that gonna hit you every year annual dues one hundred dollars and you better not write a bad check you better. Not the this feels a little like the gas tax to be where it's just like. Yeah i mean listen. It's it's wildly like outdated but like you're not fucking raising the fees. You guys try to do this to us all the time. You're not raising the fees on me. I'm a hundred bucks. That's more than enough to pay for all this administrative stuff. I thought i thought A very interesting point. It's a twenty dollars fee every year. But you have to bring your own insurance. Unless you're a member of the pj of america in good standing and then they they provide that for you. But then reading through the pga of america's Like the pga championship stuff. You have to be a member of the pj of america to play in the pga championship. your your boy. Omar's got to be coming out ahead in. That deal is not no wonder. He's playing all these events if he doesn't have to pay his own insurance exactly up to a million dollars in. I minimum like a million dollar liability for any harm that you could cause during tournament. You gotta supply that on mandatory locker room fee. A- fifty dollars which i think is every week based on something i read later in the yes in the book which i thought was good. You know. take care of the people in the locker room working hard for a small price to pay. Major guys are happy to do that. Minimum fifty bucks a week question for you. You think a guy like cooter skips going in the locker room Because it's only guys that locker room that's really interesting. Which isn't phil has given out some enormous cash tips to locker room attendants in the past as i've understood like in the in the four digits you know after a win or things like that. That was the famous story. If i hope i'm not misremembered this but when he finally wanted augusta right and all the yes all the locker room attendance in the main locker room. Where cryan off. Gosh like phil move into. He's moving to the champions locker room. Like that sucks. We're going to see him anymore Before we move on we should mention amador's also have to pay an administration fee of fifty dollars instead of the deuce. They don't have to pay dues but they got to pay fifty bucks when they when they register for an event. Which again i think for an event with what seven eight nine million dollar purse. I think i think that makes sense. I wonder what i truly. Don't think i understand the purpose of that but i i've been kind of racking my brain trying to figure that out i don't it says entrance fee is zero dollars which means it means. At one point. There was a tournament entry fee as well and that for sure eventually came down to zero. So why brought everything under the umbrella. Yeah i think a quick break here to check in with our friends. The draftkings sportsbook. It's not only my favorite sports book. But it's america's top rated sportsbook. It is super easy to navigate. It's very satisfying is. The is the a phrase i would use the interface and just the way the setup screens work and everything they got great instructions for limited limitless ways to get it on all the action and not only that they're currently putting you courtside with a chance to turn one dollar into one hundred dollars in sight credits. All us pick any basketball team. That is still in contention..

"Lose this championship to mazing in a game that's going to take four hours to complete how fast things can move to fourteen and Mark Carnovale as the breeze picks up. And that was the breeze Brooks was hoping for with a tee shot. But now a little bit of work left putter behind the ball ball up to the Cup. And, and so it's a bogus here at fourteen for Brooks. Kepco bogeys at eleven twelve thirteen and fourteen now nine under just a one shot lead to John McGuinness over, Dustin Johnson has in the middle of the fairway here at sixteen one nine two to back hole. Location at back into the breeze. This started right and his fading. These two to catch the corner of the great, I'm sorry. That's long turned it over on that wind and a hole through it. That's going to be very difficult up and down from above the green on the left hand side and everything running away from him including the wind. I started to write it looked like fade swing. That was a pig heart hook and John. That's the last place, he needed, put that golf ball that this, this is a, a whole that just hasn't given up much in terms of birdies today and a four would go a long way, right there and just really got to aggressive. And he's going to have to have a heck of a pitch if he's going to be able to save his par. Let's check the leaderboard presented by titles. The number one ball in golf. The proof is in the numbers this week, once again, it's not even close. With sixty three percent of the field trusting the pro v one or ProVia what x now with more speed more precision and more consistency than ever before. We did not think it would look like this. Brooks kept cut three over today through fourteen nine under for the championship. And the seven shot lead is down to one Dustin Johnson, one of only a few players that could have reeled him in shot three under four so far through his first fifteen holes. He's eight hundred for the championship in just one back, but as Charlie just told you in a tough spot over the green at sixteen. Matt Wallace solo third three under but he is five behind DJ. "Was a year and making to get here and to actually pull this off again, to be the low PJ professional to represent all the twenty thousand God. It's just a thrill. How 'bout met section? Five. You guys making it here. What you can play up here, the Mets X. What's gonna ask what's in the water? But I see you're not drinking water right now. You're week is over. But, but what, what was met section so incredibly strong in terms of the golf that you guys play. We've always protected teaching playing here in that section. Good players are looked at as good good PG professionals. And if we can do our jobs and take care of our membership and played high level and teach and coach and, and sell shirts, and fold shirts properly, we can, you know, we, we can do it. We can do we put a lot of time and effort into our golf games. We want people to know that the section is, is the best playing section the country and that culture is something that's really special because not all the sections value players is much as this met section. Does how could you maybe get that messaging to some other sections and say, hey, it's important for. For your PJ professionals to be able to compete to get out and play golf a little bit more something that that's just not done in every section. Well, the PGA stands for professional golfers association. So if you're a professional golfer, you have to be able to play well and. For me. I just playing such a big part of my life. My family knows it's my first love of never divorced, golf through a divorce once I've got a great wife now which I'm never divorcing, but it's, it's one of those things where golf is so special and you got for me. You have to play well to be able to coach well and do your job. Well, that's just part of the way I feel about it. And I'm there. You gotta get playing good golf and to be here out. This arena is just a second. Tell me about this golf course it looks to me from our vantage point here, looking up eighteen fairway teen green in the distance at it's playing a good bit harder today than it's played any other three rounds. Is that the case? Yeah, the wind today was when it blows in this direction when you have fifteen sixteen seventeen eighteen with this wind makes the golf course we Diculeng hard, the first hole, the front nine is actually pretty good with this win. But you come into the back nine with this win and it just throws you in a loop. You got hit the fairways, if you don't hit the fairways, you're punching out. And if you have to punch out you're trying to get up and down from either one hundred fifty two close to the green. It's just really,.

But he's gonna play at cross a slope that later on down a little unlucky, but tough shot out of the rough for your championship leader cap gun at twelve underplaying the fifth and just off the back. Right of the green bad break. Their Charlie another couple of feet, and that might have been a lot better has really surprised. See that ball hit that hard. You're exactly right. And then good buddies for a long time and Brooks, very well aware of the fact that he's a little bit ahead of Dustin Johnson at major category. Major championship category. "Alongside PGA tour veteran and proud PGA America, member, Charlie rhymer. I'm Brian k trick. We are on the eighteenth hole here and the black course at Bethpage state park Farmingdale, New York KEPCO a winner, the last time we were on Long Island. It was less than a year ago that the US open over at Shinnecock Hills. He didn't have a full year with the Wanamaker trophy either with this tournament moving from August to may and Charlie, it seems like he wants a little more time with that historic trophy. I certainly looks like he he's gonna get it. Seven shot seems like an insurmountable lead. But this is golf Brian, you watch all the way to the. N you just never know what's going to happen yesterday. A couple of times look like Brooks KEPCO was going to stretch that lead to ten eleven shots. He just looked at good. And then all of a sudden, he misses a little short one that number nine a little three-putt bogey ten. Couple of guys closed him might make a run two or three hundred par something like you got to watch it all the way to the end. But if I'm a veteran man believe me, I'm taking Brooks KEPCO, well, every good betting man knows that streaks end eventually and the streaked at by now you've heard no one in PGA tour history. And that includes the major championships has ever lost a seven shot lead in the final round a little bit of clarification for that before you. You've pipe up in the car and say, what about this guy, there's been plenty of guys that have come from farther back than seven shots, but they didn't catch a player that had a seven shot lead on the field. So it's just a little different situation here, and it's never happened. Is it finally the time for the odds to be defied? It seems unlikely with this leader as we take a look at him over on the practice area. Brooks KEPCO just seems impervious. Mark Carnovale has been walking every step of the way with Brooks KEPCO. He was the nineteen Ninety-two Arnold Palmer award winner, PGA tour veteran. I've had the great pleasure and honor of sharing towers. "Brian. That's just in total control. Not only of his golf swing but of his the mental aspect of a game. And he talks about, you know, it doesn't really use a sports psychiatrist. He doesn't do that he does things you know, you kind of goes to his own beat of his own drum, and, and obviously, it's for him. It's the right way to do it. And I would say, I would probably encourage a lot of other players to do with that way. Now and not everybody can do it that way. But it seems to me he tries to make it as simple as possible his golf swing seems simple. He approaches the game in a simple way and tries not to complicate things. And I think that's part of his success. Now, people say, well how come he doesn't win other tournaments? You know, I mean why does need excel like this and other events who knows? I mean, everybody's different. He is motivated by major championships when he talked earlier this week about feeling like he could get into double digits and also saying he felt the it was the easiest yet majors were easier to win. Well happens to be kind of a funny comment. But Jack Nicklaus kind of said the same thing. So I just think he is in a great place, mentally physically. And I, I you know. I just think look, I mean a lot could happen today. We don't know. But, like we said, it's probably highly unlikely, Mark. I love the way you're sort of laying out the fact that Brooks's own man. He doesn't his own way, if you look to his path to the PGA tour and the success that he's having he really sort of took a chance by coming out of Florida state and instead of taking the normal path, which is working your way through the web dot com to the PGA tour along with his good, buddy. Peter, you line said, hey, let's go to Europe and, and he goes to Europe and he works his way through the challenge tour to the European tour, and one of the flagship events over there. And that's how he ultimately earned his way the PGA tour through what they called non member earnings, and it was taken a chance, but it's learning the game when you're playing the world, not understanding, the language different grasses practices Hillary's on his good. The weather is not as good. Surviving that on the other end puts a player to the PGA tour that is extremely confident and extremely comfortable. And, and I think it was a risk doing it that way. But we're seeing that given that shot is really paying off and a big big way. Brooks. Kepco is the immovable object right now major championships, though, are the resistance force, and we'll see which wins out KEPCO has been resisting. Every force he's been his own force. He's out there in the practice area. Getting all warmed up ready to go. Let's check the board. Sponsored.

And while you can see the strength it looks effortless. And that's that's impressive. Yeah. It's definitely got some compression to it. Mark as you're watching him warm up with that driver is he playing basically just one shot or is he trying to play a variety of shots. I know earlier in the week he was talking about a new shot that he's like likes, call fairway. Finder where where he gets on top of, at t's it down, just a little bit more and hit, sort of bleed cut out there. He said a couple of different ones right now. It's his Trinite that control draw. There's a pretty decent breeze from right to left and in here, and the last four or five that as head of basically been about maybe five to ten yard draw earlier, he was hitting that, that high cut. He's working with his coach Claude Harmon Claude. I'm not sure if he's coaching number just toss off pulse. Yeah. Keep doing that. That's great. Just do that job, Mark. Here's a clean one. You need me to get your. Here's a new one. Enough of these in the bag. We might pay for this. Yes, code Brooks. Kepco leads by seven the mood is loose now. How will it be a couple of hours from now? Whether in the middle of this round kept good speed at two fifty eastern time. It's exactly thirty minutes from now, we'll be back with more in a moment from death page black. This PGA championship radio. Has no. It's me the designer jeans and your closet, the back of your closet. What am I doing here? Would you keep caviar in the back of your fridge with the catch up and old milk? Yep. I don't think so. So what happened to us? I mean have you seen my label I used to summer in the Hamptons? And now I'm stuck behind a pair of sweats. Sure, I never really fit you quite right at in one of my pockets is so small, you can't even squeeze your hand into it. "Since the masters, which has tired now with this condensed schedule. Like, you think he's Charlotte would have been perfect while Hollywood have been perfectly lead up to this one right here. Big course real not easy. The score. Always normally stays right around the same out. He don't show up. So now, we're going to go. PGA championship four weeks. US open memorials in between it he gonna play. I it depends on it. Does this week? We're going to learn a lot about tiger was this week. And I say that because somehow like if he's the one driving the PGA tour and the next four times, we the the next three times we see him is only at majors. How do you think the tour gonna feel about that see like you love the schedule? But now the only tournaments he's playing the next four tournaments are not PGA always played condense schedules entire well. Not as entire I came up when he was twenty one he was he he's played connect- schedule for a long time. I'm just saying the PGA tour wants their biggest star at their events. And the biggest star is Tiger Woods, and he ain't play in no PGA tour events. I don't care you. I'm not saying that you care the schedule to or shouldn't care either. Because in the month from the time that he won the master's until we sit here today on may fourteenth. Everyone's been talking about golf because of who tiger who's been talking about the Byron Nelson. No one ever does though bit. What is your connection to this? Byron nelson. That. So who's talking about Zurich, no one? That's a problem. If you're the PGA tour who was talking about the sport every about the masters Tiger Woods, but nobody talking about golf on the PGA tour. But that's all you need is on the sport. I am not if nobody's watching if no one's watching until the PGA championship, which how much of that money is the PGA tour. Get none. How much they give for the masters nine. I see your point. Yeah. I think bigger picture we have to look at buzz around the sport rather than governing on the PGA tour. I could care less buzzes, not paying my rent buzz. Does not pay the Bill his bringing people out of the course, though. And I know that tie Tigers not bring people out to tournaments Mr. Tigers not playing in. What were they doing the last four years Howard? How is the sport even on its feet because he wasn't blame. Saying it's completely different out though. He yet. But when somebody's out and there's no opportunity for them to play. Look, here's the best example think of what happened to that tournament in Tampa when he played and then this year leading up to it people thought he might play again, and the place was you talk about buzz on fire. Yeah. That's what I'm talking about. And then that was that tournament because of the schedule changes that tournament have mega field even without tiger great field for so I'm just saying I I love the way the schedules working out. I'm still I'm not sold on it. Well, I'm not sold on it on the overall scheme of things we're gonna find out next year. Now getting back to this course, and what's going on here. The thing that I'm nervous about now is because everyone is in this different scheduling, and how things are working out. I'm nervous for a bunch of injuries now. Well, yeah, I mean. Will parlay that? Let's take that back to tiger to what I was gonna say about forgotten the scheduling tangent. Yep. We're gonna learn a lot about him this week because he hasn't teed up since the masters were because he played a lot more than you needed to lash trying to get the point to to qualify.
