"p. r e" Discussed on Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day

"It's merriam Webster's word of the day for February 20th. Today's word is prerogative, spelled P R E R, OG, ATI VE, prerogative is a noun. It means right or privilege and especially refers to a special right or privilege that some people have. It was the word used in a sentence from pitchfork by Brad Sanders. The stakes never feel particularly high on darkthrone albums anymore, which usually works in the band's favor. They release a ton of music and almost all of it is at least pretty good. Nocturna culto and fenris have already pushed each other to peaks that few others have scaled, and if they now tend to sound more like a couple of aging pals jamming together, that's their prerogative. In Ancient Rome, voting at legal assemblies was done by group, with the majority in a group determining the vote. The group chosen to vote first on an issue was called the pie rogativa, a word rooted in the Latin, rogare, meaning to ask, or to ask an assembly for a decision. When English adopted the word prerogative from Latin by Anglo French in the 15th century, it took only the idea of the privilege the ancient Roman voting group enjoyed. The English word referred then as it also does now, to an exclusive or special right power or privilege. Often such a prerogative is tied to an office official body or nation. But as Bobby Brown reminded us in his 1988 song, my prerogative, the right to live as you like, can also be referred to as a prerogative. With your word of the day, I'm Peter sokolovsky. "Good immigration system that allows good people to come and go is good for Arizona. And I'm sure that our governor Ed to the best of his ability wants to foster a relationship like that with the federal government with whoever is going to be running this part of the administration for Joe Biden. So that's a very important thing for the people of Arizona taxation of people. What is gonna happen with some of the policies that will directly affect us here in Arizona? The border issue is going to be one of the first ones that affects us directly. When we watch what happens next and the next coming days, the very first things that the president wants to accomplish. We were talking about vaccines earlier today and about the ability for us to do even more vaccinations of its state Fart State State Farm Stadium. If we have access to more vaccines were not running at capacity because of concerns of having enough of the doses of the vaccine. That is no longer on the shoulders of Donald Trump. There is only going to be a very short window where they could put that on the shoulders of the Trump Administration. The American people are going to expect results and where they have the right to expect the results. The vaccine is available. The vaccine has been done, and now let's get it into the bodies of the American people that want it, that's first and foremost and the economic recovery. Small businesses have always been the life blood of Arizona's economy. We've got great major corporations that are here and are coming here. But it's the entrepreneurial spirit of the small business owner that has been the life blood and they have done very well under the Trump administration. They have done very well under this administration of our governor, because it is a business friendly atmosphere. How will the tax increases of abide Administration affect us? How will the environmental policies which I've written a couple of things down here that I'm gonna keep my eye on over the next few years? Gas prices in Arizona right now are averaging just about $22.40. A gallon for regular unleaded gasoline is to 40 a gallon. Interest rates are under 2%. The NASDAQ is at 13 4 23. The S and P is a 38 40 and the Dow was around 31 1 15. It is, you know, with some fluctuation during the day keeping an eye on those things. Where will we be in two years. I believe gas prices are going to dramatically increase, and I think that's going to be one of the things that hits the American people hardest with new policies, the environmental policies that are going to decimate fracking and the fossil fuel industry and this conversion over 12 minute fuels investing in wind and all these other things that sound great. We're no longer going to be energy independent. We will have to import more oil because we're still gonna drive vehicles. And we're gonna watch gas prices go up now. I hope I'm wrong. I really do hope I'm wrong because I don't want to see the average working family or a small business owner that runs trucks on the road is part of the service that they provide the customers. I don't want to see them hammered by higher prices. But when you look at where we are now becoming energy independent, we have driven down the cost of a barrel of oil. We have driven down the cost of refining oil because we are energy. Independent in the U. S. One of the benefits to that to every American has been low fuel prices were right in the middle. Of the winter in the coldest parts of our country. What is gonna happen next winter? What will the cost? We don't think of this in Arizona. But what's the cost of fuel oil going to be? You know what it costs to heat your home. One of the we talk about this in the Northeast. They talk about this all the time. They have programs for people to subsidize heating oil. Because it's so expensive. We've driven the cost of those Those prices down. Because of policies that were in place under the Trump administration. This is no longer about whether you like him or don't like him. This is Maura about the policies and how it how it benefited or how it cost people. So where will we be in two years? Now is the beginning of that administration. As far as I am concerned, the election is behind us. No more challenges. No more looking back, no more, not my president gnome or of any of that. He is the president. His policies are in place along with what we're going to do with Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi. Let's see what they are able to accomplish or not. That's how they should be judged. That's how they're going to be judged on this show. So we're going to talk about and let you hear from if you missed the inaugural speech of Joe Biden some of the key things that he had to say during that speech, we're gonna talk about that coming up in just a couple of moments. You know, Trading wealth has been here in Arizona for a long time. We were just talking about your ability to retire about the economy and what we do going forward. I got to tell you, you need to make it a point with trade and wealth. Covert 19 taught us that no matter how good things are going, there's always something that can get in the way and slow things down. And if you're not prepared to concussed you now at 53 years old, I can't make the same mistakes I was able to make and take the same kind of risks I did at 33 years old. Trade and wealth will customize that. Look at your future. How quickly do you need to retire? What do you need to retire with and how can they help you get there? That's what they're going to do. "This is the fifth largest city in the country. And now the mayor wants you to believe that if you the greedy business owner that you are that if you dare want to keep some more of your own profit is you dig out of this pandemic. That you're going to hurt cops and firefighters. That's what she wants you to believe with the statement. Now that's ridiculous. It's ridiculous that the city would even consider cuts. So fire and police But to make a statement like this, without any pushback from the media is even more laughable. We elect these people. Leadership in the city of Phoenix, and then we don't hold them accountable. If you're not demanding the classrooms be open your the parents that pay the taxes if we allow anybody on the Phoenix City Council To cut the budget of the police department and or the Fire Department. That's on us. If we don't vote them out of office. Not all of us collectively because we're not paying attention. What's happening right under our own noses? We all say first responders, first responders back the blue and I believe we all do. I believe in our hearts. We we respect and honor the men and women who serve our community in this capacity is a firefighter or a cop. Now is the time when the mayor is thrown down the gauntlet if the Republican led legislature Gets a budget to the governor's desk that includes $600,000 in tax cuts, and the governor signs it And then our mayor and City Council begin a plan to cut Staffing or budgets to the police and fire department. And we as the voters in Phoenix allow that to happen. We absolutely do you get the government and the city that we deserve. Absolutely. I make you aware of it, And I say that most of us say we back the blue. Now it's time to stand up and act like it. If they try to cut funding, we'll make sure it's the last thing they do is as a as an elected official in the city. That's the way it should be. That's the way our system works. We go to the meetings. We stomp our feet. We say our piece, but in the end, we rally people to the polls and we get somebody else. We pulled the power to do that, and I just hope we start reacting like it. I hope we start acting like it. In a moment, we're going to talk about being able to get the vaccine. I have some friends that are already signed up this morning. Beginning at nine o'clock, you were able to. So what happens today for people 65 older going to get you caught up on that in just a couple of moments. You know, the good people at trade and wealth have been doing this for a long time. We're just talking about tax cuts were talking about businesses trying to survive. What about retirement? You know, you still want to keep your eye on that prize. The only money you really make is the money that you put away and that you keep And when you want to retire, what do you need to retire? We'll trade and wealth fiduciaries, which means they're bound by law to put your needs first you have that level of protection. They're going to sit down with you and make sure they look out for what you need. We're all different When you're going to retire, what you need to retire. It's all unique and they take the time necessary to make sure they understand exactly what your vision is, and your needs are And then no matter what happens in the economy, you're prepared to navigate those days to get to retirement on time for 80990480990 3300, or trade and wealth dot com. "Is a go this year. They just got approval. The rodeo I know you're excited. How is how they've been impacted by the panda 50% capacity, So they didn't know if they're going to have the rodeo it all but they've you know, you've got to come up with a plan mitigation strategy. You got to present that plan not only to the city, which they had to do, it'll be out again. It's March March 4th through the seventh out at Westworld. One of the coolest venues, one of the coolest rodeos in the country, and they didn't know if there could be able to have it. They came up with a plan. They just stuck to it. They kept going back to the city. They got approval. They have to go to the p R. C A, which is the professional Rodeo Cowboys Association of the W P R A. The women's I think it's that w R A. The Women's Rodeo Association w P. R E And they've got to get it approved through those organizations as well. And there's rodeos that are not happening. And I'm a huge fan of the rodeo. Um, and this is such a cool rodeo. And the fact that they've got to the point where they're at least gonna be at 15% capacity, I think is great news. It's great news for the Valley, and it's great news for them because it's such a cool rodeo. I guess you don't have to worry about social distancing from the animals. No, but you do with the other fans in the stands. That's just like a sporting event. Is there any human to human contact in Rodeo? Yeah, there is there can be. You're supposed to avoid that during a pandemic, but I guess, but it's there playing football. Yeah. No, that's what I'm saying. But like those guys also get tested every day. I'm sure the people in the radio don't get early in the rodeo. Don't get 10 0. Yeah, I don't think they're tested every day. I don't but you know there is there is some contact that happens. You know, you've got guys getting on in the rough stock events and in the bucking chutes and helping him get set, you know, pulling the rope for him or get him in the rig and whatever, but it's I'm just excited that the prodigal soul is going to go on. If you've never been to the rodeo that is one of the coolest in the country, and my buddy Dan is the announcer. He's one of the funniest guys in the business. The bull riding is terrific. The livestock is incredible, and it's just you know, that's back to Scottsdale's Western roots. And you know, Scottsdale didn't used to be. You know, the the old town was not like you. Old town, old town was a cow town. This was there was a rodeo town. You know? And it's pretty in credit. I just think it's great. It's great news. So sorry about my excitement being yours now, whether you wanted to hear about it, not but prodigal soul is back on, and it's gonna be tickets will be available soon. March 4th through the seventh at Westworld can animals get Cove in 19 that I just saw a news story this morning that there is a zoo somewhere where the guerrillas tested positive, wasn't there? Ah, like a bangle tiger in Brooklyn. At the beginning of the world. Remember that what? I'm not going anywhere near them and shoving anything up? A tiger's not so they can have covert. I'm not going like who's the guy who has the unfortunate job of testing the bull correct? Correct. I don't wanna be that guy. I don't want to be that guy either. But you're looking at me almost like it's funny that I'm this excited. Why It's your thing. I get it. It is. I get it. It's everybody's got their thing. Well, it's it's as much for the people involved because they work so hard at this rodeo to make sure it happens every year. It's not an easy task, and this is one of the coolest rodeos in the country. And they have this kind of slammed the brakes on. It was a sad thing for everybody involved and for them to work as hard as they had to. To get approval from the city of Scottsdale and from the P R C. A T even have it. Just shows you how hard everybody works to make sure it happens so Congratulations to all of them, So I'm glad that it's back on we were going to talk about we are going to talk about The fact that Facebook is sanitizing content that they don't agree with their private company. They can do whatever they want that somebody keeps saying You wonder if there's a line somewhere where if you're gonna offer free speech and say there's violates our hate speech, there's a difference between hate speech and speech that you hate There's a difference. And we use. We used to look at the First Amendment and say We don't want to touch that, because as soon as you start limiting something It becomes easier to limit the next time and what is seen is hateful. Today might not be hateful in 25 or 30 years and we've gone down this road of sanitizing everything we despise, and I don't understand it. If nothing else, Those things should remain as a lesson. But if you think about the way things were, if you're old enough, I'm 53. So I remember watching television 40 years ago. I remember what was acceptable, then on television in years past decades ago, all of the joke's on TV were racist. Homophobe IQ sexist. All of that kind of humor was totally acceptable. What you didn't talk about her show was sexuality. You didn't talk about it. You go all the way back to the days of I love Lucy. They slept in twin beds. They don't even married couple Don't even sleep in the same bed on the TV show. And over the years that's changed. Now. Sexist homophobe. Racist jokes are unacceptable and everything they do has a sexual connotation. Everything. I'm not saying one is worse or better, but by taking something from the 19 seventies, whether it's an actor on television show music movies, whatever it is and taking those comments, whether their comments by a person or an actor That is playing a role and then jumping it into the 21st century and holding them accountable for what they said in the seventies doesn't work. And right now we've got that kind of sanitizing of things we disagree with, and I just think it's going to come back to bite us all. Now. Jim Cramer, who is a very well known and CNBC with the economy is talking about the fall out with them getting rid of Donald Trump, because just like a movie. Or like a television network or a radio show ratings and people viewing what matters. Will you take away their hottest ticket? Love him or hate him? And that's what Donald Trump is on Twitter. And there's gonna be fallout. I do believe that Twitter's got.

"We're not gonna be able to really dug worse. So the worst thing that happened yesterday was Joe Biden's speech devices, and we're only gonna get that was not divisive. That's calling out the truth. We have to address the choice of everybody. Get a different truth. Here's interesting. Kelly La Flor was with a bunch of other senators who after the election, she and some of the others broke ranks. With some of the Trump stirs torto the ones that were trying to stop buying from becoming the president. And they said they wouldn't stand in the way of what is when the program right? They weren't trying to stop Biden from becoming president. They were calling out election fraud. So we got to stop reading their eyes from the lying mainstream news media because I was trying to overturn a duly elected president. We were calling out election fraud, which is now never going to be dealt with again. She stopped the Republicans of the protests every Republican after the protest yesterday or two days ago. Backed off and said, You know what? We're over it. We just want to move on because they were afraid. So, you know, just trying to move on it. But it's time for some people who have sense of awesome. It is time that we stopped sort of talking at this and deal with it on. That's the way we hold the people forget about everything quickly here. In this country. We get into one thing of on to the next and so we forget about all of the fraud. There was a lot of father was a lot of inconsistency is a lot of incompetence. And I don't know that that's the case. I think that's you know what some people think. But if you have that attitude, then things won't get fixed. And that is a problem. Fixing this country should be our number one priority. Yeah, I mean, look, I mean, the video has everything has all the look dirty work stirred fertilization, kid moose turds all organic so you could buy Miss Fertilizer. Holy crap at mid coast comments. It says need, and then it's pixel doubt need. Shh! Contact only crap. If it goes that gob. She's really got going. There's piles of them everywhere already made into art. Mary used to do that when we were at home. Can you play the beginning? Can you play alone? I want to hear. All right. E don't really think I spoke to the lead, including some fish and a whole bunch of most hurts. Stop. That's me. I've never heard anybody say turds newscast before like, poop. Well, you know, feces or whatever it is, yes, but moves turds. I think it's he said, because the company's called Turkey works. And where is this again in Maine and made a merry for Mein Little Xerox attach runs pretty works. It's art made from the stuff that moose leave behind. Everyone takes a crap. Everyone goes to the bathroom so everyone could relate to that and every the terms that I used to name these products are everyday terms that You know, people are used to hearing and stuff, so we just kind of You just try toe. Combine the two to come up with something halfway decent. That's funny. You know, For example, the first thing that we make now instead of a cuckoo clock. See, this is a poop o'clock and what we did seize We took them turns and we cram them in between the number this So that's 1 32 33 30. That's just one of many products he offers. No over here. We make fecal people. Depending upon the shape of the middle turds right there we can do with big moves or guts or buts a long ways a short legs because there's no two turns out forever. Like you ever seen a turd to turns the lights. You know, Mary says Having a battle is getting her product. But to do that, it doesn't have to travel far. The turds are all local. We just go out and track the moose. And wherever the move side they're going to take a crap and I I have found that when it moves takes a dump. You walk about 50 yards in any direction and they take another dumb. It's a fairly simple and efficient business model. And when it moves takes a dump the crap out between two and 400 turns every time they take the craft, So it's like I get five bucks a trend for these things, so I get to tell me down. I get excited when I see it turn that's going viral. She doesn't know what the next local stop will be. But she's upping her game. With the new Turkey works Facebook page to peddle her poop Get on there. She already has 19,000 people who like her fan page there, organically ground, surely our work of what Tim Online to hate him. Hey, they do the same thing out in Alaska. I wasn't Alaskan 2000 on a moose hunt and downtown Anchorage and find that stuff everywhere. I'm sure But if somebody making kill 300, Yeah, I mean, you think about even Carter David packages called smart bombs. All right. She's making hanging Christmas ornaments out of them, You know, with a little stick coming out the bottom old fashioned. It's hilarious. Somebody to take that fecal matter and make money off of it straight. You know, that's the American dream and Right on, just so that's the picture frame with most herds all around on the frame, and then in the inside, you put a little picture like a little wallet size of someone and above it. It says, your favorite s head with an arrow pointing at them, and it's surrounded by poop. We should do that, for like an employee of the month kind of thing. Really. Love is like the dish bank about the building for that month gets it. We put it up on the wall. Let's get on the tag. Huh? Ted wins every month texted 10 of the month. Main, most herds. Head.
