C happens 100 Miles on our U U U You deal with a lot of issues, and I feel like I could bring that experience The person Prince William County and B, you know, take over what's already considered a very successful police department down there, so I can't tell you how excited and it's very exciting for me, D C police chief Peter Newsom, granting the first local interview to W. T O P Tonight are Neil Augustine has been covering local news for decades and is followed Lucien's career We talked a little earlier on Skype, his thoughts on Newsome's move down to Virginia. It was very surprising to me. I had no inkling that this was in the works. But the more I think about it, the more sense that it makes Prince William County has been changing very much in the last 10 years or so there's there's been a large influx of minority population. Political spectrum has come from very red to in the last several elections, Democratic leadership and so so a uninterested e police chief moving out to Prince William County is starting to make sense. Prince William County has sort of been doing a remake of itself. If you Will You remember that they had the were working with ice in dealing with immigration issues. But chief Chief knew she was coming from D. C, where it was a safe haven. It was it was very different, very different atmosphere in DC Obviously, you know the area's biggest melting pot. And for for him to go out there. I think that that certainly makes sense for a Prince William County. I haven't had the pleasure of talking with the chief news from about his about his rationale. But, of course, in the last several months, there's been a lot of pressure on police chiefs all over you and including in D. C to make some major changes. And indeed, when you are DC's police chief, there is a lot of national exposure. You are part of the security for the inauguration coming For example, all the big events in D C. And in my mind, it would be tough to leave something as high profile as that. But on the other hand, there are other enjoyable aspect to policing and maybe a Virginia suburb is perfect. Well, I think that you know, we don't really know whether whether Chief Newsome's making this decision on his own volition. Or whether he's been generally asked to give somebody else a chance. I mean, he's always struck me as a straight up guy. Of course, he's been in the department for you know, for dozens of years, he was the head of he was assistant chief and in many different areas, including the professional responsibility. You know where you try to see whether officers are behaving Aziz? They should. And he did that for quite a while. I can imagine that not having to be downtown for for protests every every weekend might be a bit of Ah, relief. But if I know what chief Newsome that's not why he would be doing this final thought Neal about this move. Well, I think that it'll be interesting to see who comes into try to fill Chief Newsome's shoes. I think that the prince William County is going to get someone who's able to hit the ground running these very good communicator. I trust that hey, will make himself a visible in Prince William County, as he has done in DC and will will be responsive to the to the calls of the community.
