"Publishing. That's right P. P. P say that three times quickly podcasting prep points before publishing we all know that preparation is important if you fail to plan you planned to fail. So preparation for podcast is key before you even hit the red record button you WanNa, make sure that you've checked out a few items and we're GonNa talk about some of them today. You don't want anything to impact your audio negatively. So let's start with your microphone. That's right. Is your microphone position correctly, and if you're not using a microphone, perhaps your phone, your smartphone is it positioned? Correctly? And it all depends on the hyper Mike that you're using. Typically you WANNA have it about two to three inches from your mouth and you're talking pass the mic not into the might. You might want to use a pop filter or sock if you have because those peas will be popping. And you WanNa make sure that those peas popping appointed away from your mouth. You know because you can always hear that pup pup pup. This is not a fireworks. This is not a work display. This is an audio recording. So make sure that your microphone positioned correctly about two to three inches away from your mouth and cover it with a pop filter or a stock. Number to check your audio levels if you're using recording software now I'm going to admit I do not use any software to edit my podcast here on Anchor FM however, if you're using recording software like garage band or or Dasan, you WanNa, take a few minutes to check your audio levels. They state that ideally you want it to be between five and seven decibels. or it said at the top green and yellow area avoiding the red zone. When you're silent when you're not talking the audio levels should be completely flat. Again I do not use garage band or audacity not because I don't like it. It's I. Feel as though I want to just go with the flow with my podcast, but if you are using. Ban. Or dousing make sure you check your levels. The third point I wanNA make when it comes to podcasting prep corners before publishing is the location or the place that other Pe- The place from which you are recording. Because you know the location from where you record can make all the difference when it comes to the audio sound. You WanNa. Be In a room that doesn't have a lot of heavy echo or a lot of background noise you want to stay away from these areas close the window close the blinds, US padding or a match or something sof to help dead the sound and eliminate any echoes. Close the curtains, ed pillows around the Mike as well. Most people go right into their closet with the clothes or remember I talked about creating a four where you're under to chairs with a comforter over top you definitely want to make sure that you have as limited amount of noise background noise as possible. You should be in the room without the kids without the pets you know without your spouse, your bay your boo, you want your sound to be good because that is what's going to keep your listeners in gauged. We're GONNA take a quick breast. Breath we're gonNA take a quick break and we'll be right back..

"The names of the most recent businesses to take P. P. P. loans and I would think that anyone who took a pee pee pee alone assumes that eventually that name would be made public that they could justify taking the loan also today apple announcing they are re closing stores of the first major retailer to close down open up and now Rita clothes stores in certain states specifically Florida Arizona and the two Carolinas because of surging coronavirus cases so that cause the market to roll over just a bit so and mildly negative day for Wall Street however for the week the S. and P. did finish positive by just a little bit data to await today at twenty five thousand eight seventy one nasdaq up three at ninety nine forty six the S. and P. down seventeen or about one half of one percent gold was up one and a half percent today ten year bond yield point six nine all right thanks Kelly for fifty three and it's time for our Friday food segment we go to downtown Sacramento for capitol garage they've been around since nineteen ninety two and moved to their current location at fifteenth and L. back in two thousand four Jerry Mitchell is the proprietor of the funky unique and eclectic capitol garage yeah you know we've always said we were California eclectic because we've never I guess we never done one thing like that if they don't ask what your food style you know our food is all over the map and you know we got to be really well known part brunches we started the bottomless about the thing before anyone else is doing it on the weekend and you know now well it's pretty common that most places but we changed over the years where we've gotten really into a lot of vegan and vegetarian food I had shot that began so it's nice because you can come here and you come with the group and you get a wide variety of stuff so you can some begin plans with zero and and you can have the hamburger either so it's it's kind of it's kind of cool that way and of course the restaurant business has been really challenged of late but Jerry remains upbeat the city's been great for the business downtown and a lot of these sidewalk now patio seating which is really helped us to get some of occupancy dot but pretty much caught up on the inside right of course and I know for a lot of the businesses down there I mean there were the peaceful protests and then there were that group that broke off as writers and leaders and stuff did you guys get hit real hard yeah we did you know we I I think we were fortunate that we didn't get damaged as far as they didn't tear up the place but we got looted for two and a half hours she yeah so there was nothing left inside just everything you know we did they broke up the front of the doors so I mean there was some damage of course but not like some of the places I saw that it did what yeah well he how long did it take you to kind of recover from that and get back as you're just gone you just opened up right yeah we were opened up for like a half a week you know we stayed open through the the beginning of that shut down basically but we were just of course just delivery and go yeah mmhm there are just two of us running that for awhile and then as we were allowed to reopen I think it was we we waited a few days after we were given permission but it was that we that we opened up and then that weekend that Sunday night at the bank at the right nothing like that I think in anybody's career here in Sacramento it's a it's a challenging five well if you could give this gotta you gotta work through it.

"Bank tells about the type of client you typically serve and about the type of P. P. P. client you're saying right now they're average loan ask sure so beneficial State Bank we're a community development financial institution that focuses on the under Sir so we've been we've been doing this a long time the PPP program is very different so we've seen over two thousand increase over just the last few weeks for this program so as you mentioned you found it we've approved nine over nine hundred lows today so about one fourth of those are our two women owned businesses or or business or by persons of color about a third of them are two nonprofits and about eighty seven percent of a repair mission aligned and separately these are a very small businesses and and micro businesses so well over two thirds of them are two businesses with less than twenty you noted that the government's guidance on this program has been piecemeal and ambiguous tell us more about that experience well it's it's been very well intentioned to be able to implement these policies in these programs very quickly because of you the urgent and the dire need that's out in our communities but with any massive scale program like this there's challenges so I'm going into the opening day we did not have all the information to be able to actually set up a a loan program that you'd expect very fundamental questions were unanswered such as what should the loan documents look by how does this forgiveness process work so there's a number of factors that you know they had to update us every day and sometimes multiple times a day just to be able to give us a direction of how the program is intended to work and then a wall that's happening we had to build systems to be able to handle this this tidal wave of loan applications that were coming out so you've been working literally around the clock I understand for the last several weeks let's move to other tall about Avadel tours you run that business for nine years you started it tell us about Avadel tours and how it's been impacted by the coronavirus out while we were one of the first companies to see the effects of corona virus being at the intersection of both corporate events travel and food so you know my company is a food tour company and we were doing corporate team building people entertaining clients so when tech companies started having work from home or no longer flying their employees in for you know event in person events we started to see it the FX and our revenue drop to zero and you apply for PPP loan you got the amount that you ask for eighty three thousand dollars what is that money mean for your business I mean it's a lifeline it's it's absolutely you know it it it can be the difference between life or death for a business especially small businesses like ours so it's you know it's two and a half months that allows us the cash flow to be creative and to be able to think about new business models as we continue you know we have already pivoted to virtual culinary experiences offering virtual mixology and chef and ours taking our bartenders in our shops online to be able to offer experiences but in the next phase we are absolutely going to need to to be creative in terms of reinventing our company and continuously finding ways to to stay relevant no you did have to let go of some of your employees earlier with this PPP money are you bringing people back how is this working for you yes absolutely so you know it's it's it's absolutely intended to be able to re hire those employees and we are now that we have just received the funds we are actively trying to bring more people back on to to help our business and hi it's been incredible actually our virtual business is going well and so we we actually actually need those employees to come back in order to be able to serve the clientele that we now have that's great to hear Randall do you expect the money that's been allocated for small businesses to go to the intended recipients in the second round in the second round we we do hope that it does I mean I think there's challenges with the the whole size of the program and the actual amount of reach it has you know in our view there's there's just not enough money to go around right so were were pushing today we expect the bill they had about a thousand applicants were we were able to prove their loans I thought we had over two thousand ink work out so you know we're not done we think that that's representative of what we see with with other banks so the about what we are seeing is that it is going to the small businesses so now for example the the long we have funded so far reflects paychecks for about sixteen thousand employees the work for a small bank that's a big number but it's not big enough right so you know what we are right now is you know it's it's it's basically it looks like you know there's there's not enough live preservers to go around right and so there's been this initial panic did rush for folks to get their applications approved skews me in the first round and we see that continuing the interesting things about this program is that it really has been sort of a race to get your application in before the money runs out how to tell what's that been like for you hello it's it's a it's like sprinting America thought it was absolutely a lot of work especially as a small business with incredibly limited resources I put applications into three different banks and you know was able to to receive it through through one of them and Randall I know you've done as much business in the last few weeks as you did in the previous four years despite the wrinkles in the program the PPP program do you think this is the best way to get money quickly into the hands of those who need it most or would you say there should have been a different way of doing this I think it's it's one very effective way but again it's it's not enough I don't think the the size of the lawn is enough it's enough to help businesses have an option to restart but not necessarily have enough to get them to be able to get back on their feet and stay there what we are saying the amount should be well I think six to twelve times on their their their cable for example right in maybe all that's not forgivable that they they have a chance to pay it back over a ten year period or something but but really that this is a very small window of forgiveness so what we're seeing is that that go back to the life preserver now the is that folks are panicked and they're rushing to get it as we get it to them and then they realize okay may I have eight weeks of able that this will cover I do not feel the higher my employees that they may not be able or willing to come back I might not have my clients come back so if this is all I get how many gonna restart my business and so they're they're holding on for dear life right now and they're they're terrified to jump into the water because they know it might not be enough they may not make it the other side we absolutely need more tools than what we have at our disposal and I was telling you to give the last word to you hear what advice would you have for policy makers who are looking to help nonprofits and small businesses who are struggling to survive cool more resources we are we are entering a new phase and I think that you know unemployment is one way to go but I would have loved to see it this calm before I even had to lay off employees I think that there are there could have been a lot more resources up front but now that we're in the position that we are let's let's try to help small businesses who are the cultural like the cultural blind of cities I mean small businesses not big businesses are the ones you're going to bring the arts the culture back into society so let's let's make sure that they have the resources to be able to still be creative Avadel Unger without the tall tours and Randall leach with beneficial State Bank thank you both so much for joining me all kill they threaten us we should note that KQED is among the local businesses and media organizations that have received a paycheck protection program loan in just a few months the fight against the pandemic has revealed an alarming truth there just aren't enough masks gowns and goggles for the.

P. P. I think they got to go back in and and and do that I mean that was a lot of money but at the same time for the number of small businesses that were affected it's like I we have millions and millions and millions of small businesses around the country and you look at it I mean like law firms were getting the money yeah.
